I love reading about u talk about acotar, really intrigues me enough to consider reading the books, I'm also very interested in any and all fandom gossip, so please please please tell me what is the current situation? What is elaingate in reference to? 👀👀👀

WELL FIRSTABLE if you read the books, stop after the first one 😂 and THANK YOU FOR ASKING I will relay the tale of some of the most low-stakes fandom drama to ever exist that I accidentally started WHOOPSIE

On July 24, 2024, the blog for Elain Archeron Week posted the rules for the event. There were 4 rules, one of which was that they wouldn't allow ships with "known abusers" and listed Tamlin and Beron as examples (I assume you know who Tamlin is lmao, Beron is a kind of generic Mean Dad character). ACOTAR fandom is known for being puritanical and religiously devoted to canon, but this is a new development. Event week mods have ignored/not reblogged content they don't like that was submitted for their week, but this is the first one I've seen that outright BANNED anything.

There was already a little kickback that mostly has to do with the two competing ships for Elain, elriel and elucien. They both think the other is the DEVIL even though both ships are equally boring. Apparently, the Elain Week is run by elriels, and eluciens were already huffy about the wording of an ask wondering if elucien would be allowed in the event. This part of the story is boring and doesn't have anything to do with me, the star of the show, so I will move on.

Anyway! A few fandom friends sent me links and screenshots of all of this because it's objectively funny. I made a post talking about how funny it was, which brought attention to it on this side of the fandom. My mutuals (the most hilarious people on the planet) asked what was going on, and immediately joined in on the fun. Memes were created at an astronomical rate. Art, fic, and poems for every possible ship of those three characters were made. Amazingly enough, Tamlin/Beron has had a huge surge of content, as the two men named and specifically banned from the week. I started tagging the posts #elaingate, and apparently it caught on enough that the tag now has over 100 posts in it.

To clarify!! The issue has never been about the ships themselves. There are VERY few Tamlin/Elain shippers on tumblr, which I know because I have run multiple demographic surveys and crunched the numbers. And absolutely NOBODY was making Beron/Elain. You have to understand how bland this fandom is. They consider one of the most degenerate, disgusting ships to be the main male character and....his wife's sister. And it certainly isn't isolated to elain/elriel stans, they were just the unlucky bastards to finally verbalize these insidious issues with fandom, especially ACOTAR fandom. Mostly just that the fandom is EXTREMELY conservative, and also that people that like the Popular Thing always have to make themselves out to be the ultimate victims. It's also in poor taste for running an event week. Yes, event weeks are run by fans in their free time, but the idea is to inspire EVERYBODY to create for the thing that you're a fan of. If you're so precious that simple seeing a ship you don't like sends you to the fainting couch, an event week is probably not the thing for you.

I wrote a whole essay on modern ACOTAR fandom here then deleted it bc YOU DID NOT ASK. But anyway THAT IS ELAINGATE we are all being very silly.

neteyam is the ultimate aesthetic, educated and sophisticated king for liking tumblr by himself ✊🏻 (no shade to lolo though). like ‘reya, he also has a clean, aesthetically-pleasing layout, but it’s more masculine.

username: just sounds cool, y’know? he also works his ass off and is “burnt out” after all (perfection and golden-childism ain’t easy), and eclipse is just a time of day neteyam really enjoys where he gets to relax and spend time for himself. 

neteyam doesn’t complain much in real life, or let out a lot of his feelings. tumblr is like his peaceful, personal, private corner where he can speak his mind, which he really appreciates. 

i can see him reblogging and following fashion accounts that he likes, as well as occasionally posting a little ramble. ‘teyam’s page is scattered with some little thoughts and feelings here and there between reblogs of cool streetwear clothing and artistic photos/photography (for human neteyam).

Lewis had some things to finish with Merc and Yn had work to do, so they agreed on flying together, which he knew meant also packing together since Yn would get easily distracted and forget to do so.

“It’s no biggie, I have mine at home, I just wanted to get this one braid sorted because it’s too loose,” Lewis tries.

“Nah, but I always have my curls and braids stuff there, Lew…Last week I even rebraided these two pieces and…—oh–”

“What?”

“I left the lil hair bag at Mick’s house.”

“What do you mean you left it there? Like, you accidentally forgot there?”

Yn bites her lips, “I’m there most of the time, so I just left it there, you know?”

Lewis watches attentively as his sister walks back to the closet staring at her clothes as if they were going to pack on their own.

“Did you pack your satin pillowcase?”

“Yeah, Mick is taking it, I have some at his apartment. I’m putting the ones that are here through the wash,” she explains simply, starting to fold a coat.

“You have one at his place?”

“Yeah, he bought some when we started dating, it’s easier when we don’t have to keep moving those everyday things, you know?”

The oldest Hamilton was at a loss for words for a few seconds. It was so obvious, yet his sister seemed unaware. In her defense, however, the couple were now over a year into their relationship, and to deal with the distance they had to make do with each small gap of time together, it seemed to be more work for Mick and Yn to keep packing an overnight bag or something of the sorts whenever they wanted to be together. It was just easier to have their things shared between houses.

“So you’ve kind of moved in together?” he wants to be less direct with his questions, but this is all Lewis can muster, and it makes Yn stop in her tracks, brows drawing together in confusion.

“No?”

Lewis chuckles, it’s not a funny situation per se, he’s more nervous with his own realization that his sister is old enough not only to date, but now she’s old enough to share an apartment with a guy, which means soon enough she’ll probably get married, and have kids, and…his baby sister!

Can you talk more about your house Dayne headcanons? Especially if it's anything about Allyria or Ashara.

hiii sure, though some of them i've already written about here.

okay... let's see. i like to think ashara was younger than elia by more than a few years, the younger of elia's ladies and the only one who could entertain her and make her laugh when elia was in the worse of her pains (some kind of chronic illness?). very lively and carefree, the complete opposite of arthur who was too intense and serious for normal people. i am 100% behind tumblr user mylestoyne's version of arthur and i would not change a thing. i'm obsessed (if you search my arthur tag i'm sure i've reblogged some posts about it). i see her as deeply empathetic and sensitive.

i like the contrast of arthur being too enmeshed in the targ conspiracies while ashara is living the highborn single lady life in the capital, too worried about elia's moods than about aerys or the other lords. though while she was afraid of (and for) arthur, i think she was fascinated by him and could not make herself turn away. let me explain, being the sword of the morning is the top of the top, instant celebrity status, mythic hero sense of destiny. and i think having your brother become and embody this type of role is A Lot. esp bc arthur must have been facing the horrors of whether he was Worthy of wielding dawn and because i don't think he ever let himself be human, not before gaining down and not ever after. growing up with legends of swords of the morning fucks you up, it's like aegon the conqueror suddenly appearing to the targs. like. it's the SWORD that funded your HOUSE, the magic FALLING STAR embodied in the brother ashara always thought was more than human (or less?!?!?!?!). and while she chafed against arthur's bonds, i don't think it

in any case, i think ashara was a very social person, feeding from her connections and when she was sent (in disgrace?) back to starfall after getting pregnant, cut off from her friends and court, to the castle where only her little sister resided was very hard. now her baby is dead, her /brother/ is dead, lord dayne is still in the war, elia dead.... well. i could see her not having anything else to cling to.

i headcanon allyria was either the daughter of a second marriage or a very accidental baby because of the difference in ages between her and her siblings. i like to think her mother was an allyrion of godsgrace that felt very homesick and named her daughter in reference to her former house. of course she was the baby and of course she was spoiled esp because her older siblings were not in starfall at all (edric's dad serving the martells in sunspear, and arthur & ashara in the capital). she's the one who knows the castle best of all because she's never left it, a point of pride and of resentment. and speaking of resentment, while she was happy to see ashara come back to have her baby in dorne, she 100% hated her after she threw herself from the palestone sword tower partly bc as a child she didn't understand why ashara would leave her.

allyria never got on with her oldest brother that well, a massive age difference and the disparity in grief (he remembered ashara and arthur and loved them while allyria never really knew them) didn't help to make them closer, not even when they were the only ones inhabiting starfall after the rebellion. i headcanon allyria as somewhat an odd child to the adults around her, by all technicalities an only child, priding herself in her independence but yearning for company. lord dayne seeing this and not wanting her to grow alone he brings gerold from high hermitage (gerold's mother was a dayne from starfall) and they form a friendship. very pure and very healthy except when gerold needs to gain his spurs and thinks of himself as the man of the castle bc lord dayne as his knight master is too sick to perform the usual lordly tasks like ridding the lands from outlaws or performing justice. this i think contributes to his sense of importance and wanting the sword etc (he leaves starfall bc he starts hating lord dayne's weakness and allyria's passivity in this issue, he also needs to make a name for himself away from this).

allyria loves babies and when ned is born it's like the sun is, too. ned can't leave her and ned will love her for who she is and will not be as bigheaded as gerold. ned adores her in return. in my other post i explained my reasoning behind her betrothal to beric dondarrion, adding to this lord dayne and beric's dad might have been war buddies during the greyjoy rebellion and seen in him and his son people he could trust his sister and heir in case of his death. i don't think allyria seriously loved beric, i don't even think they met more than once or twice, but i do think she was deeply affected by the news of his "death" more for ned than for her being unwed now. she's become too used to be alone.

i know house jordayne is named for robert jordan the fantasy author but i like to think it's a stark-karstark situation with the daynes.

house dayne of high hermitage was created after davos dayne married nymeria of ny sar as a favor to him and his siblings.

dyanna dayne was also myriah martell's youngest lady and she and maekar fell in love. there was not meant to be another targ-dornish marriage due to the tensions but neither daeron nor myriah could separate them.

i like "fallen and reborn" for their house words bc it's the name of one of the first official visual art i saw of them back in the day. it also goes nicely with the mythical origin of their house.

Azriel was sitting at Rhys and Feyre’s dining room table, feeling particularly suspicious as to why he had been invited over for dinner. It wasn’t that he never had dinner with them. It’s that usually, it wasn’t just him.

“How’s work, Az?” Feyre asked, spearing the asparagus on her plate.

He took a sip of his wine. “It’s good. I’ve finally filled the last tech position that’s been open so I have a full team now. She’s fitting in well and is super quick in picking up new information.”

“Does she have prior experience?”

“Not really. She’s a recent graduate and was looking for entry-level in the industry. To be honest, most places would’ve passed on her for the lack of experience, but I thought she could be molded into what we need while growing her skillset.”

Rhys smirked. “You put in the work and you get a long-term employee.”

He tipped his glass towards his brother. “Exactly.”

Feyre pushed her chair back. “Let me grab dessert,” she announced, noticing both men were finished with their main courses. She returned a few minutes later holding three plates with small, pastry-like cups filled with cream and covered in blueberries.

“What is it?” he asked.

“Lemon and blueberry verbena tarts,” she said like he had any idea what the fuck that meant.

Az eyed the dessert, taking a bite and letting the tartness from the lemon slide across his tongue before settling with the blueberry’s sweetness. His brows raised in surprise. It was good. Like really good. He glanced at the female sitting across from him. “Did you make this, Fey?”

She laughed, head tipping back. “Oh heavens no. My sister made it. Elain. You remember Elain, right?”

He shot her a puzzled look at the turn of questions. “Yeah, vaguely.” Lie.

hello, my sweet sweet tumblr friends. i have a new book out one month from saturday. here we are together, the book and i:

this one was fun. i wrote it with my sister! when we were young, we were cutthroat competitive. she (older) would forbid me from reading the books on her shelves, and i (gremlin) would booby-trap her room, so you decide which of us committed the greater sin. now we have a blast.

our names are pronounced REE-uh-nock and SHEE-fra, and our book was pitched as THE PARENT TRAP meets THE VANISHING HALF. it releases August 15th, 2023. logline is "Two half-Chinese half-siblings collide for the first time at a summer art camp, not knowing they're related—and begin to understand who they are as artists, as brother and sister, and as Asian-Americans."

it's a book about summer camp hijinks, about passing, about what we long for and where we belong. it also says "Robinson & Robinson" on the spine, which makes us sound like an accidental injury law firm. sweet.

of all the books with my name on it, this one is probably the "book club"-iest. if you like coming-of-age novels or stories about the AAPI diaspora, you might like this one :)

Hi! No hate at all. I get where you’re coming from. I think when people are interacting with my blog, they just want to be respectful, and not overstep any boundaries. They’re curious. Especially as someone with a small, but still quite big blog with a decent follower base.

I don’t think people have ill intentions, however I could be wrong. People are curious when it comes to borderline ID and intellectual disabilities. It’s something they don’t hear about everyday, it’s something that IS talked about like it’s a slur. People are afraid of it and that’s why I talk about it so much.

I know people don’t see me as a equal, and I’m learning to accept that to an extent. Sometimes, I get upset about it and sometimes I learn to accept it because there is nothing I can do and I honestly don’t want to waste my already very limited energy.

For me, I try and see the best in people. That includes online, so when people are asking me if they have permission, my first thought Is that they’re just making sure. However, I do understand where you’re coming from.

People are overly careful when it comes to interacting with me. They see me as fragile almost, like someone they have to care for or make sure they’re not offending like I might break. It’s like in real life, people will often talk to my sister or mother first before talking to me because they assume I can’t talk for myself, or think I’m not able too.

This is tumblr, I try not to be to offended by things on here because it’s such a SMALL thing in my life. I do this because I enjoy it, I enjoy educating and telling people about my story.

I get what you mean, and I think a lot of times, this might be the case. However, sometimes it’s not. We can’t be for certain because I don’t know the person. I’ll probably never know the person. I can’t know what someone’s true intentions are, and I’m ok with that.

Putting this under a read more because it got long af.

God i think part of the reason why im so obsessed with him is the duality of his character and artistic expression. He used to describe himself as conflicted a lot, especially in his earlier interviews and that pretty much hits the nail in the head i think. I love both his music and filthy frank a lot but I wouldn't be so fascinated with the person behind either of these things if they weren't made by the same guy. I just think he is a fascinating character.

What got me into him? I'm honestly pretty late to the party, i stumbled upon slow dancing in the dark on some random playlist at some point mid 2023. Slow dancing in the dark got famous for a reason: its so fucking good, i was playing it on a loop for weeks. Later i stumbled upon pretty boy, once again by pure chance. I was playing it on loop for a looong time as well. I hadn't even noticed that both of these songs were by the same artist at the time.

Fast forward a few months later, someone i follow here on tumblr dot com rebloged a post that expressed ops utter bafflement that filthy frank had turned his career around so dramatically and that he was a "sadboy musician now". The term slursona was thrown around. The ballads 1 album cover was included in the post and i recognised it imediatelly but i also recognised the name filthy frank.

You see, back in the day my older sister was a huge fan. She was really into this era of youtube bless her heart but ff was one of her faves. She had showed me human ramen AND hair cake back then but i was pretty young and I didn't really speak english well enough to fully understand what was going on. Nonetheless, i was morbidly fascinated but i never got into ff myself. Still i knew who he was.

Finding out that i was listening to his music a DECADE later from a random tumblr post gave me the whiplash of my fucking life. I genuinely got so scared i went and removed sditd from my character playlists and spotify liked songs lol. I let that revelation shimmer within me for a few months until one day i finally decided that i should do some research on the matter. I think i watched the slow dancing in the dark mv first and it completely blew me away. Then i watched the weeaboos video and it made me cry from laughter.

Somehow i ended up listening to his entire discography and watching Every Single filthy frank video ever made. At some point i discovered the notorious filthy frank exposes himself video and that once again blew my mind. I realised that he was the one who accidentally started the harlem shake trend back in 2013. Blew my mind. I listened to pink season ans i realised that the help song ive been seeing around since forever was a pink guy song. Blew my mind. I went home for the holidays and i talked to my other sister about my newfound obsession. Turns out she knew him from glimpses of us. Blew her mind too. Talked to my brother, he knew him from glimpses of us as well. We were all screaming about it for a few days.

This whole phase of mine started at some point in March and its only been getting worse. I don't know how we got here but im not complaining.

If i had to choose a favourite song.... sanctuary is my most listened to song of the year so far, so i probably have to go with that but also sditd, you suck Charlie, like you do, pretty boy, yukon, Mr Hollywood, no fun, demons, see you in 40, nightrider, modus (just to name a few)..... they all hold a very special place in my heart... I just love pretty much most of his songs a whole lot.

As for favourite quote im afraid I don't have a super serious answer to this question fjdksdks. "I just wanna make people sad and horny" is a strong one but also "sorry for being An Fag" and "fucking everyone smokes weed in central park...." fascinate me to no end.

Oh god… okay, there’s quite a few things that make me click off a fanfiction immediately. Big blocks of text are a no-no for my terrible eyesight. Improper grammar, and incorrect spellings consistently - no one’s gonna judge if you accidentally miss out a mistake, but if you don’t even try..

And also, a personal thing, if I don’t like their writing style. It doesn’t mean it’s a bad story - in fact I’m sure that for some people they are the best things ever, but some people just immediately give me the writing ick and I physically can’t read the rest of the story just because of the way it’s written.

What non-Fire Emblem games do you play? oh man. childhood favorites that stick with me are Pokemon, Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy. I've dipped into Tales of, though the only one I've completed is Vesperia (beloved game). Octopath Traveler 1 and 2 are both amazing. Splatoon is my favorite shooter. I've gotten lost in Pillars of Eternity for hundreds of hours. I think my fav Elder Scrolls game has become Oblivion for some reason. Sometimes I dive into sim games like Planet Zoo or Two Point Hospital for a bit. I like video games!!

Favorite Pokemon type & Pokemon: hard to pick a type, but some of my favs are Ampharos, Ivysaur, and Furret!

How did you get into Fire Emblem? downloaded the Awakening demo and played it like 10 times in a row. decided that buying myself the game was going to be my first "treat yourself" purchase when i moved out for college

Favorite Fire Emblem class: hmm...archers and mages, maybe. it's always satisfying when the chip damage is enough to save a front liner from retaliation, and even more satisfying when a crit or adept procs and the ranged unit is like "nah dw i got this"

How did you find TOA? Lucius was over at my house and pitched it to me one night while we were reminiscing about FERP on tumblr. pulled up the rank chart on my computer to explain it to me and everything lmao

Who was your first TOA muse? If you don’t have them anymore, could you see yourself picking them up again? Python was my first! He's definitely the one I'm most confident in, and I see him as kind of my "bedrock muse" for now.

Have you had any other TOA muses? I had Reyson for a short-ish time!

Do you think you have a type of character you gravitate towards? I think I'm still feeling out the difference between "types of characters i gravitate toward liking" and "types of characters I gravitate toward writing". I do think I feel most comfortable writing supporting characters with enough backstory for me to tease out and build up from there!

What do you believe you enjoy writing the most? I love character connection. Whether it's spoken aloud or not, I like little moments where I can have my muse compare a character to someone else they know, or see each other in a different way. I also love when characters have conflicting views and motivations and have to deal with that in one way or another!

Favorite TOA-related memory: KKE Team Guard coming together for that crazy rapid-fire chat that Ree sprung on us for the finale is definitely a strong one! It was so fun seeing different characters shine throughout the conversations, and on my own end I loved having an opportunity to let Python lose his cool for once >:3

Got any delusions that didn’t see the light of day in TOA that you’d like to share? I've only got fleeting thoughts that I would have to let simmer longer, especially when I would have to let someone go to fill the slot (I have accepted that 2 is my personal limit). 31. Pick one OC of yours and explain what their tumblr blog would be like (what they reblog, layout, anything really)

I'll be honest I'm not really sure what era bishop lives in and I want to keep it kind of ambiguous but if she had access so social media she would be a bit of a tumblrina. there's already a demographic like her on tumblr of women in their 30s and 40s who write really long winded academic posts and links to interesting articles theyve read (not a dig! theyre vital to the ecosystem!). bishop would write her posts as if theyre going in a peer reviewed journal. pretty dry and with a lot of citations. all with the default blog layout and icon LMFAO

Words I’ve had to seriously struggle to define when explaining to my sister-in-law and/or mother (a list in progress):

POG. - She was aware what “Play Of Game” meant but didn’t understand usage outside of sports.

Blorbo - After much stuttering we came to the conclusion that it’s “a character you really like.”

FML - After explaining what it literally means, I then had to quickly explain that it’s just a way to say “ugh, this sucks”.

Uncle Rick - This was actually done by my little brother who became incensed when he learned my mother didn’t know Rick Riordan was nicknamed that.

Isekai - I accidentally used this term while explaining the story I beta for and then had to Google it so I didn’t explain it wrong.

Rip - obviously she knew what “R. I. P.” means but i had to specify the nuance of just saying the word “rip”.

E - in reference to when people just type the letter “E” in people’s comments in streams. Specifically back when I watched Technoblade and Ranboo streams. I gave up explaining this one.

AO3 - the website. I just had to explain the whole concept of the website. It took like ten minutes.

RSlash or R/ - the YouTuber, and by extension, saying the thread out loud. This one was amusing because my dad was confused too and he spends hours on Reddit.

Beta reading - when I needed to explain why I couldn’t help with the dishes I was in the middle of something. After explaining, she was surprisingly lenient.

Oof - I struggled explaining this one a lot.

IRL - I really didn’t expect this to be a problem. It somehow took longer than you’d expect.

TL;DR - once again, really didn’t expect this to be a problem. Didn’t take that long to explain tho.

Anon - specifically in reference to asking questions on Tumblr. Had to explain it is not the same as QAnon.

Tags - I was talking about fics on AO3. This was what led to me explaining AO3.

Ratio - I’m still not sure she gets it but she doesn’t use Twitter or Insta much anyways.

Stan/Stanning - I’m also not sure she gets it but she claimed to and I don’t use it enough for this to be a problem.

Vibe - how do you describe the concept of vibe? Cause idk and my sister-in-law still doesn’t either. We’re both just winging it.
