Hello good day, If it isn't a bother may I ask when are you planning on updating the monkey D. Wyvern story? I have been reading it since the beginning and am a huge fan of your story especially your art too. If it ain't too much pressure, I hope you update soon 😊

Hey there! First off, I think you have the wrong person. While I do have One Piece stories, this doesn't sound like one of mine. Sorry!

Second, some gentle advice: many creators find comments about their work telling them why you enjoyed it far more encouraging than asking for updates. Requests for updates can cause immense pressure for something that was shared for free. I personally have been turned off from updating (even abandoning stories) because I got far more requests for updates and new stuff without actual appreciation for what I had already shared. What may seem like a harmless request for a little update for you, may be the 20th non-stop request that breaks a creator.

Simply telling a creator that you love their work (or even better, what specifically you enjoyed!), that you had fun revisiting their work, etc, may be far more encouraging and motivating for most creators than requests for updates!

The thing about synapsid jaw evolution is that we have a pretty good idea of how the bones transformed, but when it comes to life appearance and functioning of all these forms we can only guess - I`ve read a lot and still haven`t found a more or less definitive answer of what the ears of e.g. a gorgonopsid should really look like.

Jaw articulation is hard to see in screenshots, but the hips are a problem indeed. Maybe they`re not even synapsids but some sort of mammal-imitating reptiles, kinda like how some mesozoic crocs were trying to get into mammal niches?

As for Tobi I fail to see why it is less wyvern-like than Magnamalo. Sure it has that snake-like head, but the fart tiger seems far more aberrant to me.

As for pangolin scales and mammalian feathers, the scales look rigid enough even without beta-keratin. And a hypothetical pango-feather most likely wouldnt have the complex structure of a real one - merely a superficially feather-like form, no separate barbs or anything, just good enough for gliding. Though this is all unnecessary if we assume the dino-hipped beasts aren`t real synapsids like a said above...

Finally, I was thinking that maybe pronated hands are important and they indicate common ancestry among most flying/bird/brute wyverns. Maybe they all descend from a single unusual group of maniraptorans that radiated really hard into increasingly aberrant forms after the K-Pg? They`d be burrowers like you suggested, evolving the powerful pronating hands without flight feathers as well as much more flexible bodies and tails than other dinosaurs. Even wyvern pseudofingers could originally appear to help with digging.

Speaking of pseudofingers, what if they and the neighboring fingers eventually had the biochemical pathways for their development so entangled that a simple mutation could replace one with the other? That would explain some wyverns having extra fingers. Or maybe some pseudofingers just became indistinguishable from the real ones, possibly by co-opting some of the genes involved in their formation.

But this is all just idle speculation of course, I`m not trying to prove you wrong or anything.

(I’m actually going to post this one if you don’t mind because there’s some particularly interesting bits to talk about)

Fair enough, soft tissues do have a hard time showing up so yeah maybe the ears were different.

The Crocodylomorphs you might be thinking of are notosuchians. They were notorious for many of their convergently mammal-like features, and one of my UHC friends, Dr. Masiaka (mentioned in the UHC Kushala vid) actually thinks this is where fanged wyverns lie.

As for Tobi, I tend to ignore it not just because of its aberrant nature and you are right in your assertion that it’s just as wyvern-like as magnamalo. I suppose it’s just that I have a hard time fitting it into any particular group on my flying wyvern tree. I guess it could go near the base with the common ancestor of flying wyverns, but even though it lives similarly to my purposed FW ancestor it also looks nothing like it. Maybe future games will give us a new monster that can bridge the gap and make me restructure my tree. I know Somnacanth, and more recently Giasmagorm has done that for my piscine and elder tree, which will come out soon.

I think it’s worth mentioning that the whole beta keratin problem specifically refers to bishanten (and maybe garangolm) and not any other monster.

I’ve been pretty vocal about my displeasure of bishanten as a monster hunter design due to its deranged combination of monkey and bird features. I could make a way better tengu monster than monhun B team.

Pronated hand ancestry theory actually seems pretty interesting.

And the idea of the biochemical pathways for fingers and false-fingers is an interesting one. While I doubt that the pathways for fingers and certain wrist bones would become entangled, pathways for phenotypic expression is also something that I don’t know a whole lot about, so my statement could be wrong. It definitely gave me something to think about for a bit.

Aarnz Hound

[Hackmaster 5e is actually Hackmaster 2e, as part of the joke of the original Hackmaster was that it was the 4th edition of a long running and beloved RPG, a parallel universe version of D&D. Unlike the original Hackmaster, Hackmaster 5e is mostly an attempt to be a serious RPG; it’s less a parody of D&D than an attempt to make a better D&D, like so many fantasy heartbreaker RPGs. As such, the first Hacklopedia is mostly clones of traditional D&D monsters combined with the author’s personal preferences (true intelligent dragons are rare and don’t show up until Volume 2, and bestial drakes, wyverns and lindwurms fill in the space here).

That said, there are a few original monsters in Volume 1, as well as interesting takes on original Hackmaster monsters. Like the aarnz hound here. The original didn’t stand out to me, mostly because of the art; it didn’t have any of the supposed simian characteristics. This art, on the other hand, convincingly looks like a dog/monkey hybrid. The mechanics are still nothing special, but I added signature abilities based on the flavor text (and Hackmaster 2e has a lot more flavor text; most monsters are two-page spreads)]

Aarnz Hound CR 4 NE Magical Beast This man-sized creature combines features of wolves and monkeys, with a simian face, fierce teeth and nimble paws. Its eyes have a glint of savage desperation, and spittle oozes from its mouth.

Aarnz hounds are hybrids of canine and simian aspect. Woe betides the explorer who mistakes them for mere animals, as they are the creations of the cult of Angazhan the Ravenous King. This grants them a dim intelligence and a feral evil, and they are much more likely to attack humanoids above other prey if given the chance. An aarnz hound patrol will stalk prey for days at a time, waiting for them to be worn down by other monsters or terrain hazards before closing in for the kill.

An aarnz hound is shockingly fast, able to move through the trees as fast as a man can walk over open ground. They prefer to pounce from above, with multiple members of the patrol attacking the same target and felling it before moving onto their next victim. The exception is if a creature tries to flee—the motion of fleeing prey and the scent of fear attracts the attention of the cruel beasts, and causes aarnz hounds to peel away from the main group in pursuit.

Although they were originally artificial creatures, aarnz hounds breed true and are found in the wild. Aarnz hounds live in packs of mixed sex, with a dominant male who controls access to breeding rights. Fights for position are common in the pack, but rarely fatal. Aarnz hounds are territorial, ranging out from a centralized nest, which is often constructed above ground in the branches of a large tree. Patrols on the hunt, however, may range far from this territory in pursuit if their blood is up. Even wild aarnz hounds cooperate with charau-ka and other servitors of Angazhan, although they have been known to rise up and devour a master who shows weakness.

Can you talk a bit about your miraculous au? I love the one shot so much and would sell my soul for more info!! I feel very sorry for Virgil and wonder what he’s going to do next?

I can definitely talk about my aus. The question is will I shut up about them before I reveal the whole plot. ;D

So in my miraculous au, which curious people can find [here], it centers around Dante Ekans and Virgil Storm and their complicated history. Through a series of accidents and really good timing, Dante discovered a bag of magic jewelry and accidentally becomes the new guardian of the miraculous, which are being tracked down by a specialized military force under the control of a high ranking executive who sees them as a way to conquer the world.

Dante is 100% ready to undermine the rules of society and so he messes around with each of the miraculous becoming friends with the kwamis until he meets Trixx and is like “oh yeah, shit, this is mine.” and then he starts testing the waters to see what he can get away with while being the Faux Fox: robbing banks that fund the special localize military forces, creating illusions to terrorize any forces in public areas, stopping petty crime that the soldiers refuse to. Government propaganda label his hero persona as a menace to society, but for growing pockets of people, he becomes a symbol of their hope.

Virgil is in love with Dante 120%. He actively ignores this fact most of the time. Dante also loves him back, but he’s convinced he missed his shot two years ago after he destroyed their friendship.

Logan runs a blog dedicated to free speech and uncensored reporting, which Dante discovered because the more he uses the Fox miraculous the more sensitive he gets to when people are deceiving others. He picks Logan to wear the Dragon Miraculous about five minutes after Virgil refuses to help him and then casually just...doesn’t take it back. Logan loves listening to Longg talk because they can have actually intellectually stimulating conversations.

Patton is perpetually filled with anger at the world, which is why Dante starts to notice him: he puts on a show of being a happy, pappy patton, underneath it he’s planning murder 9 times out 10. When the military starts sending soldiers to watch over the school (because they estimated that Faux Fox and Wyvern were high schoolers), Dante transforms into the fox and gifts Patton the Peacock Miraculous to turn everyone’s fears into undefeatable monsters that drive out the soldiers. He can also low level influence emotions the more he wears the broach. Patton and Duusu watch sad movies just to cry together, okay.

Roman only gets the bee miraculous because Dante was moving the locations of where he was hiding the miraculous and there was a fire that forced him to stash the jewelry and run to go save people, but unfortunately the bee dropped from the hiding spot and Roman noticed. Roman’s power actually turns out to be “Hivemind” which is once he activates it he has ten seconds to touch as many people as he can and all those people fall under his control, until he loses his miraculous or loses concentration. He challenges the Fox to a duel of who can be the better hero-- which gets interrupted by the military and they both have to scatter. 

It takes Dante all one day to figure out who has the bee comb, but when he goes to take it from Roman he overhears Pollen and Roman talking and....well... Dante doesn’t think that Roman made too bad of a hero. 

He regrets it the next week when Remus finds out that Roman has magic jewelry and demands a chance to take it for a spin. He has the ability called “Cling” which is something that actually bees have where he naturally builds up a negative charge which he can use to make things cling to him or make them cling to something or someone he touches. He and Pollen are cool, but Remus realizes after that first time that he’s not really...a good fit with the bee miraculous. Doesn’t stop him from being jealous of Roman, or from pestering his brother to let him borrow it to go jump off some buildings.

The first time Virgil puts on the butterfly brooch is a month later when the military decides the best course of action is to set a trap for the active miraculous users that involved real people and real guns. Without any other options the fox, the dragon, the peacock and the bee (Roman) jump in the protect and defend, without much of a decent plan. and Virgil realizes that if he doesn’t do something Dante will die. Lucky for him there happens to be another equally motivated person watching the chaos and just wishing to have the power to save his brother.

So Remus becomes Virgil’s first akuma, gifting him the abilities of minor creation in order to help the heroes escape. And then Dante has the nerve to laugh and say “Finally! I knew you would put it on some day!”

Cue immense rage from Virgil, that leads him to telling Remus that he can keep these powers if he just gets that necklace off the Fox. And Remus who has been wanting powers since forever, is like “neat!”

Virgil and Nooroo get along swimmingly just as long as Virgil doesn’t talk about why he’s so adamant about getting the Fox miraculous off of Dante or what he’ll do if he does, and Nooroo doesn’t ask questions about it. 

((That’s like the first “arc”. The second arc then starts covering how Dante found the miraculous, and what happened to the previous users. Specifically, Thomas Sanders the Ladybug miraculous wielder and the guardian. Lets just say that Joan shows up back from a trip across the world and finds out that Thomas supposedly gave a bunch of kids miraculous and they aren’t exactly happy  about it. New Battle for the Miraculous, anyone?))

(((I have some more things like Monkey miraculous wielder Talyn showing up and Dante and Virgil finally talking face to face about what happened two years ago that broke up their relationship. Roman, Logan, and Patton all end up in a relationship where they are keeping their miraculous a secret from each other and Remus’s lack of a miraculous becomes really important. Also... Did you know the ladybug miraculous...can be used for bad?? )))

So yeah!! I told you its hard to get me to shut up about my aus. I did some resigns for the boys that I’ll be dropping some time in the future hopefully��[here]! Additionally, you’ll probably notice I hedged around the time limit of the miraculous purely because I haven’t decided if I like those rules. I might go more towards the more in sync you are with the miraculous the more time and power you have to do things, so people like Joan and Talyn can use their powers mulitple times without a recharge, where as Dante can go one big illusion, or several small ones before he needs a recharge.
