BLANKET UPDATE: SHE’S DONE 🥹🥳✨
I’m so happy with how this turned out however my poor hands may never recover from what I’ve put them through.
This took 17 (!!!) skeins of yarn and was entirely too expensive but it is almost 100% cotton so it feels lovely.
It took me roughly 50 hours over the span of a month to make this but I did finish HOEAB and 91% of HOSAB on audiobook in that time so big ups to multitasking lol
This is an excellent project for a confident beginner and it’s a free pattern. If you’re interested, it’s called the hygge burst blanket by Nautikrall Crochet and there are extremely detailed, wonderful YouTube tutorials to accompany the written instructions!!

I made a lot of amigurumi during 2020-2022 it left me with lots of partly used skeins of yarn in random colours. So one of my yarn projects for 2023 is a scrapbuster project. I plan on making a Hygge Burst blanket to use up the awkward scraps I have with bits too small for normal projects.
This is a tiny bit out of my comfort zone as I prefer to buy and use yarn for specific patterns. Or plan out the exact colours and amounts I need so I don't end up with too much extra or short of yarn. A project that is all about just putting things together is a bit intimidating so make a pleasing end project without knowing what it will look like.
I am also making my first magic yarn balls to use up the tiny scraps that can't be used. Eventually they will be used for a project where I hold two strands together one a plain white or black with the multicoloured one.

Winter Wellness: Nourishing Your Body and Mind in the Cold Season
As winter blankets the world in a serene layer of snow, it brings with it a unique set of challenges for both our bodies and minds. The colder temperatures and shorter days can often leave us feeling lethargic and less motivated to prioritize our well-being. However, with a mindful approach and a few intentional practices, you can not only weather the winter months but thrive during them. In this guide, we'll explore self-care ideas for winter, the comforting glow of winter candles, and the magic of essential oils to uplift your spirits in the cold season.
Tumblr media
 1. Embracing Winter Self-Care
Winter self-care goes beyond cozy blankets and hot cocoa; it involves a holistic approach to nourishing your body and mind. Start by incorporating warming foods into your diet, such as hearty soups, stews, and herbal teas. These not only provide comfort but also help keep your body warm and your immune system robust.
As the cold air can lead to dry skin, make sure to adjust your skincare routine accordingly. Hydrate your skin with rich, moisturizing creams and lotions, and don't forget the often-neglected areas like your hands and lips. Consider indulging in a weekly at-home spa night with a hydrating face mask and a warm bath infused with soothing essential oils.
 2. Winter Candles: Illuminating Coziness
The flickering flame of a winter candle has a magical way of transforming your living space into a sanctuary of warmth and comfort. Opt for candles with fragrances that evoke the essence of winter, such as cedarwood, cinnamon, and vanilla. These scents not only create a cozy atmosphere but can also have a positive impact on your mood.
Place candles strategically around your home, especially in areas where you spend the most time, like the living room or bedroom. The soft glow of candlelight can have a calming effect, making your space feel inviting and serene. Whether you're reading a book, enjoying a cup of tea, or simply unwinding after a long day, the ambient light of winter candles adds a touch of hygge to your surroundings.
 3. Essential Oils for Cold-Weather Comfort
Harness the power of nature's aromas to uplift your spirits during the cold season. Essential Oils Can Cure Your Common Cold, Essential oils are a versatile and natural way to enhance your well-being. Citrus oils like orange and bergamot can add a burst of energy and freshness, counteracting the winter blues. Alternatively, the warm and grounding scents of lavender and chamomile can help you relax and unwind, promoting a restful night's sleep.
For a cozy and comforting atmosphere, consider creating your own winter blend using essential oils. Combine cedarwood, cinnamon, and a hint of clove for a scent reminiscent of a winter cabin retreat. Use a diffuser to spread these soothing aromas throughout your home, turning it into a haven of tranquility.
 4. Hydration for Health
In winter, it's easy to forget the importance of staying hydrated. The cold weather can be deceiving, leading us to believe that our bodies need less water. However, indoor heating systems and chilly winds can contribute to dehydration. Ensure you're drinking an adequate amount of water throughout the day, and consider incorporating warm beverages like herbal teas and broths.
Hydration not only supports overall health but also benefits your skin, combating the dryness that often accompanies winter. Keep a reusable water bottle with you, and infuse it with slices of citrus fruits for a refreshing and vitamin-packed drink.
 5. Winter Outdoor Activities
While the temptation to hibernate indoors is strong during winter, getting outside and embracing the season can do wonders for your well-being. Bundle up in warm layers and take a brisk walk in a nearby park or nature reserve. The crisp air and winter scenery provide a refreshing change of pace and an opportunity to connect with the beauty of the season.
Engaging in winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, or ice skating adds an element of fun and physical activity to your routine. These activities not only keep you active but also help combat the winter blues by promoting the release of endorphins.
 6. Connecting with Loved Ones
Winter is a season of togetherness, and there's no better time to strengthen your connections with loved ones. Host a cozy winter gathering with friends or family, complete with warm drinks, comfort food, and the glow of winter candles. Share stories, play board games, or simply enjoy each other's company in the comfort of your inviting, candlelit space.
If distance separates you from loved ones, embrace technology to stay connected. Schedule virtual gatherings, whether it's a video call to share a cup of tea or an online game night. Maintaining social connections is essential for mental well-being, especially during the isolating winter months.
 7. Reflecting and Setting Intentions
Winter is a natural time for reflection and introspection. Take advantage of the longer nights to turn inward and assess your goals, values, and priorities. Set intentions for the coming months, focusing on activities and habits that bring you joy and fulfillment.
Consider starting a winter journal to document your thoughts, feelings, and aspirations. Write down moments of gratitude, reflections on the past year, and goals for the future. This practice not only provides a sense of clarity but also serves as a therapeutic outlet for expressing your emotions.
In conclusion, winter wellness is about more than just surviving the cold; it's an opportunity to thrive and embrace the unique beauty of the season. By prioritizing self-care, incorporating the comforting glow of winter candles, and harnessing the power of essential oils, you can nourish your body and mind during the colder months. Embrace the magic of winter, and let it be a season of rejuvenation, connection, and self-discovery.

bill coming to tigers house right before a storm hits and they end up making it fun, finding movies to watch and drinking tea/coffee. maybe they’d have soft sex as the rain patted outside...
ohhhhh but WHAT IF THIS HAPPENED ON THEIR VACATION THOUGH NANI? Because look, first of all, I fucking love thunderstorms so much. I go out and stand in them every single time. And second of all, those incredible, booming, tropical thunderstorms? sign me the fuck up.
***
It had been a struggle to get you to come inside. When the group saw the ominous clouds rolling in, dark and threatening as the palm trees started to bend violently in the wind, they had packed up their things from the beach and headed inside to regroup at the hotel bar.
You stayed on the beach, feet planted in the sand, tilting your head up as the wind started to whip around you. Bill was already well ahead of you, helping one of the other girls carry her beach chair back.
It wasn’t long after that the rain started to fall in sheets, cracking thunder and lightning breaking the sky. You marvelled at it, letting it soak you, as you watched the waves crash onto the shore with more force. It was empty all around you, people having taken shelter away from it all while you stood smack in the middle of it.
“Alright kid, that’s enough,” Bill’s voice broke your meditative state, and you turned to see him approaching you. His hair clung to his forehead in thick curls, his white shirt already soaked and sticking to him. You smiled, holding out your hand.
“It’s beautiful,” you said, and a bright bolt of lightning drew your attention back to the sky.
“It is,” he agreed, grabbing tight hold of your hand, “But it’s not safe. Come on, we’ll go watch it from my room before we meet everyone for dinner.”
You let him loop his arm around your shoulder, reluctantly walking you back to the hotel. Once in his room he shed his wet shirt and shorts, throwing a towel at you and beckoning you to do the same. He eyed the bed in the room, scratching at his chin thoughtfully as you dried off.
“Can I have one of your shirts?” you asked, wrapping the towel around yourself.
“You won’t need one,” he said, smiling at you as he opened the patio door. You looked at him curiously as he started to shift the furniture in the room, dragging the bed beside the open door.
“Is this some weird Swedish ritual thing? Was the furniture not giving you Hygge feelings?” you asked.
“First of all,” He kneeled on the bed to fluff the pillows, “Hygge is Danish, and fuck Denmark.”
“Second of all,” he continued, that lopsided grin on his face, “Come here.”
He beckoned you over with two fingers and you followed as a loud crack of thunder split the sky. Stopping in front of him, he gazed down at you and brought a hand to the front of your towel. He looked at you, waiting for you to nod, before gently undoing it and letting it fall to the floor.
Climbing onto the bed, he laid on his back and reached for you, putting you on his chest. He wrapped the blanket around you, resting his hands on your back and holding you close.
“Cold?” he asked, and you burrowed more onto him.
“Definitely not,” you smiled.
The lightning periodically illuminated the room in bursts of energy, the thunder following in loud cracks as the rain pelted the balcony. But after awhile Bill’s gentle strokes to your back, usually enough to lull you to sleep, were having the opposite effect with the storm surging outside. And as you started to squirm on him, started to place gentle kisses on his chest, he grabbed a firm hold of your ass and rolled your hips down onto his. You groaned lifting up and kissing him deeply.
“We’re supposed to meet everyone in 15 minutes for dinner,” he mumbled against your lips, making no effort to stop your hips from grinding against his. You grabbed his wrists, pinning them by his head, and he groaned as you rubbed against him particularly forcefully.
“I’ll bet,” you said mischievously, “That I can make you come in 10.”
He looked at you, his brow quirking in challenge. Before you could protest he shot forward, wrapping his arms around you and flipping you over so you were pinned beneath him.
“I’ll bet I can make you come in 7.”

Nordic Scandinavian Interior Design
Tumblr media
Minimalism may be trendy, but there is one iteration of clean design that will never go out of style — Nordic Scandinavian interior design. It’s no small feat to be able to exercise restraint in your décor choices, while still managing to make a space feel cozy. The style is so popular because it speaks to both our tidy tendencies and our desire to live in inviting and comfortable settings. Want to get the look that Nordic countries are so well-known for? Take note of these beautiful layered spaces.
What Is Scandinavian Design?
Scandinavian interior design is a minimalistic style using a blend of textures and soft hues to make sleek, modern décor feel warm and inviting. It emphasizes clean lines, utility, and simple furnishings that are functional, beautiful, and cozy.
Play With Natural Light
Scandinavian interior design is known for its minimalist color palettes, cozy accents, and striking modern furniture. Nordic decor often play with natural light which is a hot commodity in Nordic countries.
Add Contrast
High contrasts are the hallmark of Scandinavian interior design. In this all-white dining room, stark black sculptural furniture helps create a dramatic, impactful statement. Modern furniture also contrasts with the ornate architectural details that are common in historic buildings in northern Europe.
Choose Mod Furniture
Even in newly built contemporary spaces, mod furniture is key. Tulip tables and swan chairs are warmed up by blonde-wood accents and rich cognac leather tones. Sculptural branches also help make the space feel more organic.
Choose Muted Colors
In this New York City apartment, interior designer Tali Roth embraced her own version of Scandinavian style. A George Nelson-esque Flos table lamp stands atop a mirrored cube. The colors are muted tones of taupe, ivory, and sage. Black-and-white photography, olive branches, and a small brass bowl all serve as minimalist decorative accents.
Incorporate Colorful Art in Multiples
Colorful art is seldom found in Scandinavian interiors, but when it is, it’s often in graphic multiples, like in this series of botanical prints. In the dining room, furniture is often kept simple: midcentury chairs and a floating storage buffet. Candles are the hallmark of hygge style and often come in simple brass candleholders.
Think Cozy
Speaking of hygge, the Danes try to incorporate this philosophy in all aspects of their décor: Make it as cozy and comfortable as possible. In this small space, the unmade bed is pushed up against the window and takes up the whole space. Curtains separate the sleeping space, further adding to the coziness.
Mix Textures
Nordic style living room features simple, clean-lined furniture and muted gray tones, which could easily feel cold and uninviting. But with striking photography and a cozy mix of textures, like the sheepskin throw and kilim rug, it feels welcoming.
Corner Your Fireplace
Scandinavian homes are known to have fireplaces in the corner of a room — not centered on a wall. Thus, seating arrangements are often designed accordingly. Smaller accent chairs float closer to the fireplace while sofas generally anchor the middle of the room, leaving walking space behind it.
Use Warm Wood
Warm wood tones and sepia hues are popular in Scandinavian interior design because they make a room feel sunny and bright without using overwhelming bright colors.
Off-whites, sepias, and wood tones work well together and create a welcoming, muted space.
Layer Bedding
Swedes and Danes are skilled at layering bedding in the most welcoming way. This often includes a blend of linen sheets, wool blankets, and a small collection of accent pillows, often in muted tone-on-tone hues. Iconic lighting is also common in Scandinavian bedrooms, often using the ceiling fixture and bedside lamp to make a modern statement.
Add Small Bursts of Color
When color is used in Scandinavian interiors, it’s often in small bursts or bright hues — almost in a gallery style. For instance, in this light-and-bright living room, a neutral base is brought to life with rugs and throws in blue and purple hues, while the various artwork provides a sharp burst of color.
Mix Décor Styles
Though they veer more on the modern side, Scandinavian interiors often feature a mix of periods and styles to make a space feel layered and cozy. In this muted dining room, oil paintings in ornate gilded frames hang above a collection of apothecary jars. Above the stark black dining table hangs an oversized industrial pendant.

Album Of The Week: ‘Ballads’ By John Coltrane Quartet
Stand out song: ‘Say It (Over and Over Again)
This is not the first time that ‘Ballads’ has featured as the album of the week and nor will it be the last. This offering from the John Coltrane Quartet may not be the most famous of Coltrane’s work or regarded as his defining album but I think that it is. Through this record, Coltrane shows the other side to his music. He is often remembered for the artist who provided ‘Blue Train’ and ‘Love Supreme’ however, even on those aforementioned records, there are glimpses of a different side of Coltrane, a gentler side. That is what builds up ‘Ballads’. The entire album is one that from the moment the needle hits the record, feels like a warm embrace and yet one that is often tinged with melancholy and the odd sense of heartbreak. It is, more tonally than technically, Coltrane’s most complex work and one of its greatest powers is where Coltrane the other members of the quarter (including the always wonderful McCoy Tyner) show their restraint. There are moments where you can feel that given the space to, they could suddenly burst into their full speed, firing on all cylinders however, they don’t need to here. The power rises from knowing where to place a certain note to play on a certain feeling. None of Coltrane’s records are sporadic and chaotic, they may perhaps seem like it at first but there is instinct and thought behind them all, so I won’t draw an analogy that likens Coltrane’s other records to a scatter gun. Instead, if I’m sticking with the weapons analogy thinking I will borrow a quote from a certain Mr Kenobi and say that ‘Ballads’ is ‘an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.’ The thing is though, that doesn’t quite sit right at all because ‘Ballads’ is far from being a weapon but it still makes quite the impact.
If you asked me what my top five favourite albums were I would perhaps struggle for a moment. However, if you let me go through my record collection and put on the front runners, the moment I heard the record begin to play I would know that it was one of the albums that I could not live without. ‘Ballads’ is one such album. It came into my life in Copenhagen and with the dreams of hygge that were also born there, it has refused to leave my side ever since and I am oh so thankful for that. Everytime I put my ‘Ballads’ record on, I feel calm. Truly and completely calm. It is an album that I have noted before, that I have played over and over again to feel that sense of calm or at least I did quite a few years ago. Now, whilst it still is a sort of comfort blanket it has evolved to take on a different feeling. It is almost as if it has retired, it no longer needs to work to earn its place in my favourite albums list, it is there and firmly too so everytime I listen to it now it is a relaxing experience. ‘Ballads’ is one of those albums that when I listen to it, I melt into it, forgetting the world around me. For instance, for a brief moment then, it actually could have been several hours there is no way to know, I forgot that I was writing and I just listened to Coltrane’s music and that, that wasn’t too bad at all.
‘Ballads’ is one of those albums that I would refer to as my daydream albums. An album that I often have played in my head to accompany my seemingly endless daydreams. The daydreams that accompany ‘Ballads’ are often very quiet, gentle and are bathed in the ever alluring hygge lighting that I insist is present the moment the sun sets. My favourite song from the record is ‘I Wish I Knew’. It isn’t the stand out song for today’s piece as I thought I would go for something different, hence ‘Say It (Over and Over Again) making an appearance up top however, really it is always and will always be ‘I Wish I Knew’. This is, more than any of the other songs on this record, my song and the one that plays in my head to an endless degree. What it is about this particular song that has captivated me so much, I couldn’t exactly say. I think, when I first heard it, its title struck me and that feeling has never really left. It is a track made for those truly quiet and reflective moments. A song to breathe in and to let it fill your very body and soul. It is a song for the wee small hours and although I may never get there in actuality, I do sometimes envision that as I look out of my window, wherever that has been over the years and I let this song envelop the world around me. The thing is, despite the title of ‘I Wish I Knew’, I think that the thing that I like about it the most is that there isn’t an answer. It is a song that really, is built for a journey and one that doesn’t meet a definite end. It is a wish afterall and one that keeps going on and on. As ‘Ballads’ will, now and forever.

The concept of hygge has long been a part of Danish culture. It burst into the zeitgeist across the Atlantic about a year ago, and non-Danes have been trying to pronounce it correctly ever since (it’s hue-guh, for the record). It’s one of those words that can’t be directly translated to other languages, partially because it’s more of a feeling than a thing. Perhaps the closest we can get is cozy, though that doesn’t quite describe the entire Danish philosophy. Hygge is the term used to acknowledge a feeling or moment as charming or special. Depending on who we are and what we find most comforting, hygge can occur alone or in groups; at home, or on the town; and can be as simple as a cup of tea and a good book. Basically, hygge is a way to lean into shorter, colder days by enjoying being indoors. If you’re wrapped up in a blanket with a cup of tea and some candles burning, whatever you’re reading may be considered a hygge book.
This guide is here to help you find books about hygge. While the whole idea of hygge is that there’s no right or wrong way to do it, these hygge books can provide visual and written inspiration for you to embrace your inner Dane.

What is cottagecore? The brand new trend sweeping social media this summer
Forget Hygge and Lagom, cottagecore is the new trend bouncing around social media this summer. So we’ve rounded up a few cottagecore ideas to help you get the look in your own home.
Related: From green paint to velvet sofas – the top 10 home interior trends taking over Instagram
Before you sigh ‘not another word’, this new aesthetic could be the antidote we all need after the last six months. The new lifestyle trend emerged during lockdown as many of us rediscovered the comforts of home and embraced nature, whether that was gardening or baking bread.
Many Brits have become so taken with the idea of a country lifestyle, that Rightmove has seen a surge in the  number of home hunters looking to relocate to villages.
What is cottagecore?
Simply put, cottagecore it is a trend that embraces simplicity and is about enjoying the comfort of being at home. This translates into a home aesthetic that has a cosy country feel.
It is all about being in tune with nature, and romanticising an agrarian lifestyle. Type ‘cottagecore’ into Instagram and you’ll be met with over 500,000 posts of luscious gardens, cosy living rooms and a few floaty dresses.
‘The newly emerged cottagecore trend is a modern spin on the classic rustic countryside style,’ explains Sinead Trainor, Kitchen Category Manager at LochAnna Kitchens. ‘The trend pulls on classic and traditional influences, which is why we anticipate that the trend will be around for a while.’
If you are tempted by this new aesthetic trend,  here are a few cottagcore ideas to help you get the look in your home.
Cottagecore ideas
1. Stick to neutral and muted colours
‘Simple elements such as neutral colours, muted tones and robust carpentry are sure-fire ways to bring the cottagecore look into our home,’ says Sinead.
You can introduce a few pops of colour such as in this bedroom with a dusky pink blanket, and hints of navy blue. However, keep the shades subtle to create a peaceful country feel.
2. Opt for wood finishes
This trend is all about getting embracing nature, making wooden furniture and home accessories a must. Think wooden stools, benches and surfaces.
If you don’t want to shell out money on new wooden fixtures why not embrace the full cottagecore experience and  make something yourself. You don’t need to be a master carpenter. Why not try your hand at making a window seat or a coat rack, all you need is a few wooden pallets.
3. Create a reading corner
A reading nook is a must for this aesthetic. Opt for a comfy armchair in a space flooded with natural light. Stick to neutral shades such as beige and peaceful greens that will echo the outside space.
4. Embrace the cluttered look
This is not a trend for minimalists. However, the clutter must be carefully curated.
Artfully pile up a stack of dog-eared books on the living room shelves. Or display crockery and cooking supplies on open shelves in the kitchen. But remember, your space should feel cosy, not messy.
5. Add colour to your garden
According to this trend, the only part of your home that should be bursting with colour is the garden. Create a modern cottage garden effect with Roses, Poppies, Foxglove, Cornflower and Helenium.

Will you be trying out this new trend?

Hygge: The act of relaxing with loved ones and good friends, usually while enjoying food and drink; the word is associated with coziness
On a typical wintry day in Seoul, the weather was freezing cold and it was difficult for people to stay outside, even though layers of clothing were being worn. Thankfully, Jihyo was able to stay at home with her friend, Naeun. The friends lounged in Jihyo's living room, wrapped up in their blankets, drinking wine and munching on snacks like sweet potato chips, ddeokbokki, and kimbap.
It had been awhile since the two have physically seen one another, and every time they spent time together, catching up and bonding was always enjoyable for them. Bursts of laughter and loud chatting were filling the room, the girls were all smiles and talking about the topic consisting of celebrity crushes.
"Yah, Tom Hardy is such a hunk! Every time I mention him to someone, I feel they judge me or think I have a chance with him. The man is taken.. It would be a dream come true if I could end up with someone like him!" The elder of the duo gushed over her ideal type, having a shiny sparkle in her eyes and being immersed into her commentary. "He's so manly, strong and seems mysterious too. I wish, I could figure out more about him. He is very intriguing!" Realizing she didn't know her friend's celebrity crush, she switched the attention to her friend and questioned, "Omo, do you have a celebrity crush?"

Tap into ‘Hygge’ and Combat the Winter Blues - a concept from Denmark, the world’s happiest nation
It is ‘Blue Monday’ on 16th January. The third Monday in January is said to be the most depressing day in the year – The weather is terrible, Christmas and new year’s festivities are long gone, people are back into the daily grind, get-to-gethers with friends and family have become infrequent, most people are out of pocket following the holiday season, new year’s resolutions may not be going according to plan….
At Virtus Medica, we feel this does not have to be the case. All one has to do is look to the Danish for inspiration. Tap into what they call ‘Hygge’. Hygge, pronounced as ‘Hoo-gah’, has no direct translation in English – It is a feeling of warmth, a burst of fresh energy, a lifestyle of simple pleasures… As one person puts it - the word is a feeling, it was never meant to be described. The Danish, ranked as one of the happiest nations in the world, (even though it is not a tropical paradise!) have clearly got something right – Could it be Hygge?
I sit here, with my laptop, wrapped warm in a blanket, with a mug of hot tea and warm fluffy socks – Could this be Hygge? I think so. Hygge is all around. You just have to tap into the feeling – Enjoying a home cooked meal and a glass of red with close friends or family; Wrapping warm, sipping hot chocolate and watching a good movie; Enjoying a pain au chocolat with a smooth, intense coffee for breakfast whilst reading the paper, Curling up in bed and reading a good book, Sitting with a furry friend, Taking a stroll on a clear winter’s day and feeling the fresh cold air on your face, Running out in your underwear, dipping yourself into the snow and coming back to the warmth; relaxing in the hot tub after a work out... – It is all HYGGE.
To combat the blues, create a ‘Hygge’ environment in your home this winter – Keep some warm throws in your living room and lay out a furry rug. Light some candles, burn some scented oil and listen to your favourite tunes or simply use an Amora Scent Hub to create a delightful ambience. The Amora scent hub uses an advanced technology to create a multisensory experience using light, scent and sound to stimulate both the mind and the senses creating a lovely ambience. It also acts as an air purifier and a humidifier (handy when the radiators have been switched on all day!). The Amora scent hub is on special offer on www.healthcare-wellbeing.co.uk
To wind up, remember be mindful and take pleasure in the simple things. The fantastic thing is you do not have to be a millionaire to tap into this energy!
