here's something stupid: the catcatfish
Tumblr media Tumblr media
some quick facts:
they're nocturnal and tend to roam around while awake.
they have keen senses of smell and hearing, but terrible eyesight. despite this, they also have a tapetum lucidum, making their pupils "glow" in the dark.
their fur is short, dense, and oily to waterproof them.
they prefer a diet of mostly meat and are attracted to strong-smelling food like fish, cheese, and anything fermented.
the elongated dewclaw on each front paw is sharp, flexible, and nonretractable. it injects a venom that causes respiratory failure and cardiac arrest in prey and, in extreme doses, humans. veterenarians typically remove the dewclaw venom glands during the neuter/spay procedure.
they grow to an average of 1m and 23kg (3ft and 50lb) but can reach up to double that length and triple the weight!

Meet Dogxim, the world’s first known dog-fox hybrid
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this cutie had been hit by a car, and the Brazilian veterinary clinic that nursed her back to health noticed that not only did she look unusual, she didn't behave like a dog
researchers checking her genetics discovered she's both dog and Pampas Fox!

Whatcha think of the possibility of some seekers having more than one wings? Like kinda sub species almost to the normal seekers?
Personally, absolutely love it.
It could be something like what TFP did with a smaller set over the main wings. Or, a physiological difference found within an isolated sect of Seekers or even something like a multi-environmental approach (one set to fly and one set to navigate underwater). But I also really like the concept where two species produce a viable hybrid, so something between a Camien Seeker and a winged alien neighbor would have interesting results.

Pointing this painting out to a friend and she was like "what would their kid look like?" I had to draw it. Love how the colors came out on this character ❤ Of course Fitz is gonna have a field day talking to this creature! What do you call a mermaid + centaur? A Hippocampitaur? (Mix of hippocamp (horse + fish) and taur????) Thank you @centaurself for pointing out this is already a mythical creature called a icthyocentaur ✨ Lemme know if there are any other mythical creatures you want to see Fitzwilliam interact with!

i wanna be a machine but i also want to be organic
i wish i was some weird techno organic hybrid
give me metal bones but let me regenerate
let me become stronger without needing to replace my parts
let my brain be connected to more storage while keeping my memories and brain stuff
let me perspire and breathe to lower my internal temperature and run at peak efficiency
allow me to replace my parts for different niches like eyes into the infrared spectrum
let me choose between getting energy from food or electricity

Hi!! I was thinking, what's your opinion about inktolings? Like I'm 99% sure they'll never be properly canon (due to various reasons including biology), but I wondered if you had any specific thoughts or headcanons about them. I'd love to know :')
in general, personally not a fan of the concept of hybrids in the splatoon world. if it were possible for stable hybrids to happen in a society comprised of so many species that have been intermingling for generations, i dont think we'd see the level of speciation that we do. it makes for messy worldbuilding.
inklings and octolings have had peaceful relations with each other for millennia and with how similar they look, i have zero doubt that some have tried for kids. but biologically speaking squids and octopuses as distant as cats and dogs (maybe even more distant than that, at least cats and dogs share a taxonomic order, squids and octopuses only share a class). the only way id imagine an inktoling to exist would be nothing short of a miracle, and would be sterile, likely with some kind of health issues. the sapient herrings in splatoon can produce hundreds of children and this likely applies at least to other species of fish too. for couples of different species who want children, i think there would be no shortage of children to adopt.

FOURTEENTH FUNGUARY SILLY based on bleeding tooth fungus!!!
this is Soni (pronounced SAW-nee) (any pronouns, he/him preferred)! He was a regular northern highland slugcat until he was modified by Drowned Out Cry to be a slimecat "hybrid."
Something about slimecats and their hybrids is that they can only properly hybridize (form "true hybrids") with similar species such as rot or dark lichen.
Meanwhile, Soni is a "false hybrid;" since his original species isn't fully compatible with slimecat stuff, he has distinct slimecat patches instead of being an even mix. Since slimecats technically never stop growing, a false hybrid's patches won't either; eventually, Soni will be 100% slimecat (but still 100% Soni).
Sometimes it can be difficult to identify whether a slimecat hybrid is a true or false one. A simple method is to see if their slimepups are also hybrids; if so, it's a true hybrid. If the pups are just regular slimepups, then their parent is a false hybrid.
True slimecat hybrids can occur naturally or be made artificially (natural ones usually happen from pups living around and absorbing stuff like rot). False hybrids are always artificially made.

prev anon, also are there any bug mules? like anything that is a hybrid of 2 different species, like mules are half horse half donkey?
as previously stated here, many invertebrates are often mechanically incompatible with other species because of their genitalia, such that no fertilization occurs even if individuals of different species attempt to mate. even if fertilization does occur, the different sets of genes may mean the embryo might not survive, or the offspring might fail to reach adulthood.
however, hybridization definitely does occur, both in nature and in captivity. one of the most famous and prolific captive hybrids is the common Madagascan hissing cockroach. at some point when hobbyists or scientists got a hold of hissers for lab breeding, they probably unintentionally crossed the species Gromphadorhina portentosa and G. oblongonota. the offspring were fertile and could interbreed with other hissers, and so spread all over the hobby while being sold as unadmixed species. among cockroach hobbyists, the rule is to assume all “G. portentosa” are hybrids unless there’s documentation that they’re isolated, single-species lines. it seems like most hissing cockroaches can hybridize though, even between genera, so I typically just refer to the admixed hisser stock as “mutts” since they might have multiple species as their ancestors.
hybrids have also occurred in other cockroach genera like Blaberus, as well as tarantulas. like the roaches, some Tliltocatl and Brachypelma tarantula hybrids are sold as unadmixed species, which might threaten the original species’ existence in captivity if they keep getting unknowingly bred to hybrids.

-NEW CHALLENGER ENTERS THE SCENE-
This lovely fellow is another one of Evelyn's creations :) and the most recent too! He is deemed as the "golden child" of her catalogue of children. He follows her every command (he's not the brightest bulb in the shed) and sees her as his mother (she hates that nickname)

HELICORAPTOR – fan JW hybrid for old @mariolanzas video
Tehnically, this is are big saw-jaw budgies who love talk with eathother. And, of couse, mimic human speech and hinting in megapolises :)
Tumblr media
Imagine in the night you taking good nap on five floor... then you suddenly awake, look around and see in window a group of big winged raptors looking directly at you. In next moment one of them shakes his head violently, his puple goes wide and it slowly say joyfully "GLASSK TOUCH PURPLE SHROCK" before happy destroing you whith his meaty-bony circle saw and mammal-poisoned sharp claws
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also why Mario take away parrot DNA from this sweety, it the most fun and important part of them (becouse parrots not only are talkactive sillies, but also have moveable upper jaw, and that really upgrades helicoprion tooth saw - and without budgies whole feature impossible)
Tumblr media
just why

How would a human’s body change after giving birth to a cybertronian hybrid? Some humans develop motion sickness after having a human baby, would a human get a higher heat tolerance after carrying a rodimus baby?
It varies from each mother, but each one definitely has these commonalities: small zones of metal platelets inside the uterus, an increased sensitivity towards Cybertronian presence, the ability to produce traces of Energon in breastmilk, and the necessity of greater amounts of essential metals and minerals.
The zones act as anchors for the newspark to latch and develop. The "tendrils" that connect the sparklet to the chamber are the sources where materials are funneled -the carrier's own frame and surrounding transfluid. It breaks it down to the basic building blocks for the sparklet's coding to initiate the construction process.
Unlike metal implants, these platelets are formed from living metal, so they don't trigger an inflammatory response or rejection. This is due to the living metal's ability to bridge to its "host" at its most basic components and essentially become an extension of the body rather than registered as a foreign substance. It meshed well with humans' own adaptability and extreme tolerances.
With the incorporation of living metal in their bodies, human carriers have a greater "sense" of nearby Cybertronians as well as a greater sensitivity of their moods via EM fields interacting with them.
The mechanism for how a human carrier is able to feed their own newspark is unknown. So far, there's a hypothesis that there's nanite cultures reinforcing their bodies and rewriting some aspects at a genetic level. It's supported by anecdotal accounts of human carriers recounting events of faster healing durations or receiving far less damage than anticipated as well as the documentation of their dietary needs and range during and after carriage. Many human carriers after birth still had issues with metals and minerals deficiencies, such as anemia, aching joints, muscle loss, and negative skin and hair changes. Ratchet (crossed with Autobot-aligned human medical personnel) noted it was corrected with far higher-than-recommended dosages (for the average human's) and higher caloric intake with no signs of toxicity or impacted health.
Some claim heightened senses, particularly sight, hearing, and smell. Other common complaints are hot flashes or higher base temperature, an urge to eat non-edible items, like metal coins and clay, heartburn, higher drug tolerance, skin and hair care changes, changing breast size, increased foot size, and restlessness. Surprisingly, many agree that sex, particularly penetrative, is better:
"Look, I thought the g-spot was a myth. Even (redacted) fancy sensors couldn't find mine, but after (redacted) popped out, it reset me. I'm a firm believer in it now. And all this weirdness is a perfect trade-off." - Audio recording from Ratchet, Autobot Chief Medical Officer of the Ark.
