The day turned into night. The cold might have pierced your skin once, but it did nothing to you now. You stayed huddled underneath a tree, arms around your knees and you wept for hours. You only moved when you started hearing soft footsteps coming from the distance. A part of you considered letting the predator just take you. Why should you fight them? It wasn’t as if you had a home anymore. The warm memories of your parents turned as icy and hard as the snow underneath you. You questioned their love for you over and over underneath the still moon. If they’d loved you, they never would’ve sold you off. If they’d loved you, they’d sacrifice themselves rather than you. But, whatever stalked you eventually disappeared and left you in the lonely woods.
You crossed through dense bushes before the smell of cooking meat caught your attention. The savory scent made your stomach growl, and you moved towards it. In between the shrubbery, you saw flickers of light and the crackling of a fire. Every sense suddenly amplified. You heard soft, cheerful humming. You smelled the saucy rabbit stew in a large pot above a smoking fire; wisps of human sweat and blood mingled with the fragrance and you drooled. Hunger brought you to the edge of the clearing, where you saw a horse and cart tethered to a tree. Propped up in the back was an immensely large man. The jacket and vest he wore strained against his belly, and you hardly saw a neck. You recognized the man immediately. The Duke, as people called him, was a regular visitor of the village.
“Ah, Master YN,” the man beamed happily when he saw you. He kept his fire close to him, sprinkling herbs into the pot. You wondered briefly how he’d grab it. “What brings you out here ton-Oh my,” his smile faltered when he saw your half-torn, blood-stained clothes and hands, “My dear boy, what happened to you?”
“A few things,” you replied, eyeing the steaming pot. You licked your lips seeing the brown gravy hanging off the wood spoon above it.
“Must have been quite heavy things,” he said. “I have a coat you may wear. It’ll keep you warm in this biting cold.”
“No, thank you, sir. I don’t feel very cold.”
When you stepped into the light, The Duke gasped softly. He glanced at the rest of you, then said, “It appears Master Felix succeeded in his endeavor after all. Have they already let you loose upon the Huntsman?”
“Huntsman? No. I left.”
“What for?”
“My family.”
“The same family who sold you to me?” He sounded confused by this.
“Yes.”
He saw your crestfallen face, and said, “Well, if you will not have my coat, then take some of my wine. It is a fine vintage from House Dimitrescu. You might enjoy it much more than this stew.”
He pulled out a decorative bottle from the holder hanging from the door. Grabbing a wine glass, he poured and handed it to you. You gulped when the sweet scent of blood hit your nose. Timidly, you moved closer. The fire bathed you in warmth as you took up the glass. The mixture of scents in the air made you nearly dizzy. You took a sniff of the glass, grabbing hints of bold grapes and virgin blood-
Virgin blood?
“What is this?”
“Your new family’s speciality,” he answered. “Sanguis Virginis. Maiden’s Blood. It’s very…full-bodied.”
You did not want to think about the meaning. Instead, you took one sip and let out a soft groan. It tasted better than any stew or cooked rabbit. You gulped down the rest of the drink, feeling life slipping back into you.
“Have a seat, young master,” The Duke insisted, “Warm yourself with wine and fire.” When you sat on a stool near him, he said, “So, what possessed you to leave your new family and seek out the old?”
You contemplated this for a moment, then said, “I wanted to go home. I woke up in this unfamiliar place alone and only thought of going back to my family.. I’d hoped they’d want me back. I thought maybe they did not know what would happen to me. I…I know it sounds ridiculous now.”
“There is nothing wrong with having hope,” he assured you, stirring the stew before leaning to taste some. Nodding, he grabbed a bowl from nearby and began ladeling the stew, “If it eases you, they did not know exactly what might happen to you. I will admit I do withhold some facts when making these kinds of deals. I simply told them you’d be put to good use in Castle Dimitrescu, and they put the pieces together themselves.”
“They still traded me,” you grumbled before taking another drink of wine.
“Out of necessity,” he said, scooping up stew and hungrily eating it. “Your father told me your mother was incredibly ill with consumption. He claimed she was on death’s door.”
“She was. She appears fine now.”
“With the right amount of treatment and medication, it seems so,” he confirmed. “Aside from illness, starvation and poverty in general can make the strongest man desperate.”
“Are you telling me this was okay because they were desperate?”
“Not at all. I find the act despicable, but that is the only explanation I can give you,” he said.
“You don’t find it despicable enough to not broker the deals though,” you remarked.
“I am a businessman first and foremost, Master YN,” he said. He ate more stew, gravy dripping down his chin before he mopped it up with a handkerchief. “Master Felix came to me with a deal: if I supply him with villagers, he’d pay me handsomely for them. I did not inquire about his intentions, since I have a similar deal with his mother, but it became clear when the first experiment failed.”
“What happened?”
“The subject turned into a hideous, ferocious beast,” he said, “And terrorized the village. The Huntsman managed to overpower the creature and kill it, but had no idea where it’d come from. I knew.” He washed down the stew with a beer bottle. He belched through his napkin, then continued, “I did not advertise the deal due to the morbid nature, but it soon caught on in the nearby village and beyond. I simply made the deal happen. I am only a middle man.”
“A middle man that sold people to monsters.”
“It’s not one of the nicest parts of business, but it was nothing personal, I assure you.” He then said, “It may sound insensitive, Master YN, but you should be grateful you came out like this and not like the monsters or corpses that preceded you. I am no expert in scientific experiments by any means, though I will say you seem to have been a clear success.”
“How grateful I am,” you rolled your eyes. You finished off your second glass, and went for a third. “I’m a monster now.”
“We are all monsters, just different breeds. Some might say your parents are monsters for giving up their only child to save themselves,” he said. “A few dare to say Mother Miranda is a monster herself, even when she protects these lands.”
“She doesn’t do that well of a job if we’re all starving and living in shacks.”
He ate another spoonful of stew, then said, “But she keeps the monsters at bay. They obey her every word and whim, and fear her above all others. Well, perhaps aside from Master Chan, but that is the power of an alpha lycan, I suppose.”
“Master Chan?”
“Master Chan Heisenberg,” he answered. “The eldest son of Karl Heiseberg, followed by his brothers Changbin and Jisung, called ‘Han’.” He paused over his bowl, “Did you not know?”
“I know there are other lords, but I didn’t bother with them.”
“Hmpf, you should bother with them now before they bother you,” he warned. He hesitated, “The Heisenberg pack lives in an abandoned factory on the outskirts of the land. Heisenberg created them from three boys he’d found in the village. Your new mother believes he stole her idea, but I think the man simply felt lonely working in his factory. The boys help him, from what I understand, yet there are whispers Master Chan has been doing some solo projects.”
“Any warnings I should heed?”
“Approach with caution,” he said. “The Heisenbergs do not have the restraint and refinement of House Dimitrescu.” He chewed a hearty piece of rabbit, washed it down with beer, “Then, deep in the valley lives the doll maker, Donna Beneviento with her son, Master Jeongin. The pair keep to themselves in the dank, old estate by the waterfall, but those who go there have never come back.”
“Jeongin?”
“Rumor was he was the son of the family’s gardener. He’d been very ill several years ago, and Lady Beneviento took pity on him. The treatment…well, let us say it left the boy speechless.” He gulped the rest of his beer, “In the reservoir up north is Salvatore Moreau, a being of twisted flesh and his son, Seungmin, who is his pride and joy. The beauty and the beast rule over those dangerous waters.” He then said, “I am sure you will meet the others in time. Mother Miranda will hear of Master Felix’s experiment soon enough and will likely want to see the result for herself.”
Meeting the real Mother Miranda struck a fear in you that the wine couldn’t drown out. The ruler of the land, she’d been around for as long as you could remember. A goddess of black magic, she’d given the people health, prosperity and safety. You often questioned exactly what your people paid in return for these benefits, but your questions were met with scoldings. Seeing yourself and the tales of this new “family”, you’d gotten your answer. You finished off the bottle of wine when The Duke asked you another question.
“What shall you do now?”
You paused, thinking it over as you ran your thumb over the intricate floral metal on the bottle. “I don’t know,” you answered honestly. “I don’t wish to go back to the castle, but I cannot go home either.”
“You can drift as the Huntsman does,” he suggested. He then looked up into the trees, “Or perhaps your companions might have some ideas.”
“Companions?”
You glanced up to see dozens of glowing eyes looking down from the dark trees above. Suddenly, you became aware of the shifting in the branches. Their appearance didn’t surprise you. Perhaps in the back of your mind you knew they’d followed you to the clearing. Them and whatever creatures you assumed lurked in the darkness. Standing from your seat, you examined the bats more closely. Full bodies covered in fur, they were a bit larger than the bats you turned into during flight. Those were the size of mice, whereas these were average size.
“They have been listening for quite some time,” The Duke said. “It appears they are waiting for you.”
Their eyes followed only you. A ripple of unrest went through them, and you felt it in your chest. “Yes,” you said softly, looking at one particular bat nearest you, “Yes, it feels that way.”
“If I were you, I would visit my creator,” he said, finishing off his stew and getting seconds. “Master Felix is a man of science. He may be able to explain things to you, if you accept your newfound state.”
“I don’t want to see that bastard,” you grunted, and your distaste showed in the bats above. Walking closer, you sensed a connection growing between yourself and these animals. Both creatures of the night, hungry for blood and the dark places of the world, you sensed yourself merging with them in your heart. “He made me this way. Even if my family sold me, he turned me into this monster.”
“That word once again,” he scoffed. “‘Monster’ is such a broad term.”
“It is the only one that explains what I am,” you said, reaching up to the bat, who did not flinch when you touched its head.
“You will not know what you truly are until you speak with the one who made you.”
It squeaked a few more times, and you knew it used its echolocation to find you.
“I’m right here,” you said gently once underneath it. “Don’t worry, little friend. I’m here.”
It flew towards you, and when you held out your arm it clung itself to your chest as a baby would a mother. You stroked its head while you walked, finding a sense of purpose with your new friend.
“Clearly, a close connection with nightly creatures is one of them,” Duke continued. “That owl has been staring too.”
You turned to a separate tree where a brown and white barn owl sat watching, as Duke said. “It may be that Master Felix required a person who blends in with darkness and can speak to other nocturnal beasts. The best place to start is at the castle.”
“Don't want to lose your contract with them, eh?” you asked, noting his insistence you return to the castle.
“That and that her newest son's prolonged absence may inspire Lady Dimitrescu to send her minions into the village. They may not be lycans, but they are just as deadly.”
“Minions?”
“The Moroacia and Samca, the failed experiments of Master Felix or his mother's victims. They are bloodthirsty, mindless creatures that will invade in droves, killing anyone within reach.” He shuddered, “Terrifying things. I suggest to save the innocent souls down below, you return to your new home.”
“It isn’t my home.”
“I’m afraid it is,” he said. “Where else will you go?”
You looked down at the bat in his arms. It likely lives in a cave with its colony. A cave could be a good form of shelter, and with the bats overhead, you wouldn’t be alone. The group then shuddered and shook as if sensing your need for flight. It took one to fly off before the rest of them began following them.
“Wherever they’re going,” you said, nodding up to the bats. “Thank you for the wine, Duke, but I think I should get going. The night is still young, and I have to get moving.”
“I pray you find shelter tonight,” he replied with a nod, eating more stew. “I’d caution against the beasts of the night, but I imagine it is you the beasts should fear.”
You weren’t so sure about that. Even when you fought off that lycan, which still surprised you, you didn’t know the extent of your abilities. You almost did not want to know. The more you knew, the more beastly you felt. Walking from the clearing, you held onto the bat against your chest. You stared up between the trees, seeing the rest of the colony not too far ahead. You couldn’t properly follow them from the ground, so you released your walking companion and bent your knees. In a spring upwards, you twirled into a flight form. You soared over the canopy of trees, the nighttime breeze blowing through as you flew. You stayed behind the group as they led you back to a familiar place.
Castle Dimitrescu.
Apprehensive, you slowed down as you saw the tall turrets and towers. Duke’s advice came back to you. Going back will give you answers, but going back also cemented the truth: you’d become something far worse than any human alive. You still went towards the castle, your friends making a turn and aiming at the lower areas. Through a tight hole in one wall, you escaped the freezing cold for the dark, damp heat underneath. Even in complete darkness, you saw everything. The unlit torches, the empty barrels, the cell doors and the torture devices around the dark dungeon came to you crystal clear.
The flock finally stopped in the middle of the labyrinth, starting to hang upside down from the stone ceiling. Yes, being underneath a place of blood and death did not sound ideal, but where else could you go? Finding an abandoned cell with a wooden bench, you discovered a strange kind of peace amongst the bats. They did not show scorn or distaste for you. They wouldn’t trade you for food. In fact, you’d never felt more at peace with any living being. Laying on the long bench, exhaustion finally came over you. As the comforting presence lulled you to sleep, you wondered if your parents regretted their decision and perhaps want you back.
No, they wouldn’t.
****
Hunger. Unimaginable hunger. It hollowed out your stomach and left your throat dry. The only thing keeping you shuffling through was the smell. Blood. Sickly sweet and fresh came in a gust of wind through the castle dungeons. Days had passed since you tasted the blood in Duke’s wine, and your hunger had returned in full force. It became your every waking thought as you stumbled through the catacombs. The scent grew thicker the closer it came, almost enough that inhaling it brought it to your tongue.
“Hun…Hungry…” the word escaped your lips in a hoarse voice.
You came upon the body in one of the northern parts of the dungeon. Several bodies hung from the ceiling, their limbs slashed to drain the blood from them into large vats. You’d managed to feed off the leftovers the Lady and her sons discarded. Yet, they didn’t yield much blood so the rats became a second option. After drinking the blood of the dead and animals, fresh vats seemed like an oasis. Seeing the dark red liquid sitting alone in a large bucket, you could not resist. You cupped your hands in the thick substance, and took greedy gulps. A low groan escaped you after that first drink, the warmth breaking through the cold stiffness in your body, and you drank more of it. You should feel disgusted, but your hunger won out.
“I knew you were down here.”
You smelled him before you even looked up. You didn’t know which one, but the faint scent of pomegranates came from somewhere nearby. His voice bounced off the walls, and you whipped around. Hyunjin appeared out of his blowfly colony, walking over to you with a smug grin.
“I told Mother I heard something scurrying around the dungeons,” he said. “It’s you that’s been feeding off our scraps.” He looked up into the rafters to see your colony, “And you’re the reason the bats are still around.” He looked over your disheveled appearance. Your matted hair, blood stained wearing ragged clothing, you were not a pretty sight. In wanting to escape the truth, you only brought it to life more. “You poor thing,” he frowned, cautiously approaching you, “You went home, didn’t you?”
His voice was a tender caress this time, meant to soothe instead of seduce. You couldn’t answer. His footsteps came closer, and you flinched when you felt a hand touch your shoulder.
“We tried to warn you,” he said, “But I suppose it was best you saw it for yourself. You must be in so much pain.”
He lifted your face to meet his, and you saw the beauty before you. Unlike when you first arrived, he showed no eagerness to hurt you.
“I don’t remember anything about my life before Mother,” he told you, “But I sometimes imagine I ended up here the same way as you. I’m sorry your family did this to you.” He wiped your face with an embroidered handkerchief, “You’re better off with us than with them. Mother would make sure you were well fed and cared for. Even if she’s upset with Felix for creating you, you are one of us now and that makes her your mother too.”
“She’s not my mother,” you said through gritted teeth.
“She is now,” he said, wiping blood from your mouth and cheeks. “What mother would sacrifice her child to save herself? A real mother would have given up her life rather than let her child suffer. Mother isn’t like that. She’d kill anyone who tried to harm you.” He then said, “Felix, Minho and I would not let anything happen to you either. You’re our brother now, and we stick together.”
“You are not my family,” you said through a hoarse throat. “They are my family,” you nodded to the bats above.
“Can they feed you properly? Give you a warm bath and fresh blood to drink? This place, as lovely as it is for storage, is not fit for a son of Lady Dimitrescu.”
“I’m not her son.”
“Come with me,” he said, standing and offering his hand. “Please? At least to let Mother and Felix know you are alright. They have been sick with worry over you. They think The Huntsman got you. Can you at least do that?” He batted his lashes and pouted his full lips. “There’s more food in it for you, if you do. Then you can come back down here and be with your ‘family’ if you want to.”
You considered the pros and cons of returning to the surface. Yet, staring into Hyunjin’s eyes, you didn’t see any deceit. He gently caressed your cheek as he examined your face. You looked over his full pouty lips, still stained by his blood consumption. The mole just underneath his eye made him seem more human somehow. You touched his cheek to feel his warmth on your cold fingers. His skin, supple and smooth, remained unblemished by time or age.
“Is my beauty enough to entice you?” he smirked, watching you examine him.
You didn’t answer. Your thumb went down his cheek to his bottom lip, grazing just underneath it on his chin. Hyunjin leaned closer to you, and you smelled the blood on his breath.
“Going upstairs offers much, much more than what this dungeon can,” he said, voice low between you. “I promise my bed is warmer and softer.”
“The Duke said your mother would kill the villagers if I didn’t come back,” you told him. “Is that true?”
“Partly,” he replied, tucking hair behind your ear. “My brothers and I managed to convince her otherwise, but her restraint only lasts so long. Those villagers…they might rather burn you than embrace you, yet that doesn’t justify such a grizzly end. Come upstairs with me,” he gently nuzzled your nose, “And let her see that there’s no need for rash actions.”
Even if they’d rather kill you than accept you, thinking about your neighbors and friends suffering such cruel fates was enough. “Alright, I’ll go.”
“Good,” he said, letting your thumb slide between his lips for a brief moment. He gave it a soft suckle before letting go. “A nice castle and servants aren’t the only benefits to being in our family, I promise you.”
You followed Hyunjin through the dungeons, the both of you taking your separate forms to fly through the castle. While he moved into millions of tiny pieces, yours took up a bit more space. Your body still shivered remembering Hyunjin’s soft lips around your thumb. He was by far the most beautiful being you’d ever seen, perhaps more so than his brothers. The trickle of his pomegranate essence made you hungry for something aside from blood. The sort of hunger you felt when you kissed Elijah behind his family’s barn or when Stephan stole a kiss outside the church. You never went the entire way those times, but you still remember the tightness forming in your stomach and how your body yearned for their touch.
There might be one benefit to being a monster.
He led you through the opulent, elegant halls of the castle into a lounge area in front of a fireplace. In the room, you saw Felix reading against his mother’s side on a couch, while Minho sat nearby idly playing a harp. The three of them turned as Hyunjin and you came back into the room. Felix stood up before his mother did, putting the book down and coming over to you.
“YN, where have you been?” he asked, scanning over your face. “I’ve been looking for you for days. Where did you go? What happened to you?” You snarled when he tried touching you. He didn’t appear very surprised, stepping a foot away. “Where have you been?”
“He’s been in the dungeons,” Hyunjin said. “I told you something was down there.”
“It’s you that’s been taking the leftovers?” Felix asked you, but you did not answer.
“But, sweet boy,” Lady Dimitrescu stood up from her seat, “You could’ve had your fill here. I wouldn’t have denied you fresh prey,” she came over to you in long strides. Unlike Felix, she did not cower away when you snapped your teeth at her. “Here,” she poured wine from a decorative bottle into a spare wine glass. You recognized it as the same bottle The Duke offered. “Drink this. You must be starving after feeding off scraps.”
You tentatively sipped from the glass, then downed the drink in several gulps. You licked up what spilled from the sides of your mouth, then started licking the inside of the glass. You never tasted anything so delicious before. It reminded you of those hollow days back home when food was so scarce. Nothing ever made your belly feel full. When your father managed to find food in the woods, you remembered devouring it as if it might be your last meal.
“Proper table manners seem to go out the window when you’re starving,” Minho commented, plucking at one of the strings.
“Do not be so harsh so soon, Minho,” Lady Dimitrescu said to him. “Your new brother has been through a serious change. It must’ve been difficult managing it alone,” she bent down to you, cupping your cheek. She felt warm, and smelled of roses. “I will admit I am intrigued. Felix’s experiments normally turn into lycans or die in the first few minutes, but you held out. The fact you can remember your previous life is also remarkable.”
You wished you’d woken without memory. Then it wouldn’t hurt so much.
“But then again, memory can be a burden,” she said, sensing your sadness. “Here,” she brought you over to the sofa where she poured you more wine. “Drink your fill. Rats and corpses aren’t fit for any son of mine.”
You drank your second glass as quickly, not bothered by the sick feeling growing from drinking so fast. About to wipe your mouth with your sleeve, Lady Dimitrescu offered you her handkerchief instead. You cleaned your face with it, smelling more roses as you wiped off the excess. She appeared nothing like what you’d been told your whole life. The other villagers spoke of her ruthlessness; that anyone who made the trek up her castle never returned. You’d learned that was true, yet it did not scare you. She did not look at you with malice in her eyes, but instead tenderness. She repeatedly filled your cup when it emptied. She cleaned your mouth and the dirt from your face. It did not seem to bother her as you thought it might.
“Alright, you’ve seen I’m safe,” you said, finally full, “May I go back now?”
“You wish to go back to that damp place?” she asked in surprise. “It’s filthy down there, and those bats-”
“-Are my family,” you told her. “They don’t cast out their own kind. They don’t point guns at them and tell them to leave. They saw me as I was and didn’t call me a monster or a beast.” Anger elevated your voice, pain coming up through your throat like bile.
“Well, they’re bats, so I imagine they can’t talk to begin with,” said Minho, only to be smacked lightly by Felix.
“I know how childish it sounds,” you snapped at him, “But I’d rather be in the dark with them than in the light with people who’ve used me.” You glared at Felix, “I remember everything you did to me. I remember you cutting me open like a dead fish and sticking that thing inside me. I can still feel it wriggling,” you closed your eyes to the sickening feeling in your stomach. “You’re the reason I don’t have a family anymore,” you said.
“No, your family is the reason you don’t have a family. I simply took advantage of their situation,” he said simply.
“Felix…”
“If what the Duke says is correct,” he said, ignoring his mother, “It hardly took any convincing at all. All he said was there’d be money and food in it for them, and they jumped at the chance. What kind of parents do that to their child? Surely, this is a question you’ve asked yourself multiple times since then, no?”
You didn’t know how to answer. He seized a chance at your hesitancy, “You may continue thinking you are some sort of ferocious monster, but you cannot deny it. I’ve made you far better and greater than any being outside these walls. You’re fast. You’re strong. You’re deadly. Those pathetic weaklings in the villages will be terrified when they see you coming. The lycans themselves will run in terror at the sight of you,” he stepped closer. “I have given you a gift, YN. Do not waste it wallowing in self-pity in our dungeons with the bats and rats and corpses.”
“I do not want to scare anyone,” you said. “I did not ask for your ‘gift’. It’s made me a monster.”
“You’re only a monster if you continue to act like one,” he replied sharply. “Please, YN,” he came over to where you sat, sincerity in his eyes, “Do not go. Not yet. We need you and you need us. Mother,” he glanced at the Lady, “Tell him. Tell him he doesn’t have to go anywhere. He’s safer here than anywhere else. You will be the mother he could only dream of.”
Lady Alcina did not answer at first. She examined her eldest son quickly, seeing the desperation he masked so well. Stroking your hair, she looked down at you.
“You went to the village,” she said when she saw your sad eyes.
“I did.”
“And?”
The stinging sensation in your nose returned. You tried sniffling and wriggling it out, but it brought with it more tears. You’d spent weeks in the dungeons reliving the moment over and over again. Your father had pointed his gun at you. He actually threatened to shoot you. You saw their cold faces once more, swimming to the forefront of your mind to haunt you. To them, you’d become a deranged animal that needed to be put down rather than embraced. Seeing your dirty hands and clothes, you might actually be that animal. You smoothed back hair from your face as you fought off tears. You wanted to go home, but where was home now?
“Oh, sweet boy,” she cooed. She then lifted you from the sofa like a mother would with a baby, cuddling you to her chest and stroking your hair. “It is for the best in the end,” she said, holding you close. “Those village fools fear what they do not understand. They allow their ignorance to cloud their judgment. They would never have accepted you, but that won’t happen here.”
“You’re our brother now,” Hyunjin said, sitting on the arm rest. “We won’t let anything happen to you.”
“I certainly won’t,” said Felix. “I went through too much trouble creating you. I won’t let you be destroyed so easily.”
“It’s my job to protect the members of this family,” Minho told you, “And that includes you.”
“You don’t need your bat friends when you have us,” Hyunjin came closer to meet your eyes. “We will take care of you. I’ll take care of you.”
You looked into his eyes once more, and fresh tears came.
“I think a nice bath and a good long sleep is in order, hm?” Lady Alcina asked you, and you didn't refuse.
She brought you further into the castle with Hyunjin behind her. In a room of marble stone, the Lady gently removed the rags you wore while Hyunjin prepared the bath. You did not see the point in shyness, so you let her peel the sticky, smelly layers piece by piece. Neither of them spoke as she lowered you into the warm tub. Lady Alcina did not leave your side the entire time, taking it upon herself to bathe you. It’d been too long since you felt such gentleness.
“If you still wish to go back down there when you wake,” she said, carrying you into a bedroom after washing and drying you, “You can go.”
“Really?”
“If it makes you more comfortable here, then I will not protest. Unlike that simpering wench of a mother, I wish for you to be happy.”
She laid you down on a soft bed like a newborn, pushing hair from your face and caressing your cheek. The exhaustion finally started coming over you in the comfort of this new bed. It certainly beats the old cot back at home and your dungeon bench. Your eyes started falling shut as you savored her fingers gently scratching behind your ear and scalp. It had been something your old mother might have done once, but not anymore.
Alcina Dimitrescu didn’t care about your pointed ears or claws.
****
“Magnificent…Absolutely magnificent. You say he tore the beast apart?”
“Yes,” Hyunjin answered in a whisper. “He lifted him in the air while still in his bat swarm form, and tore his head off. It was incredible. I’ve never heard of anyone defeating a lycan before; it usually takes several gunshots for them to go down. Even Heisenberg’s boys have trouble with the particularly feral ones from time to time. We certainly can’t do what he did.”
Felix told him to follow you, but he would have done it on his own anyways. He didn’t want to lose another brother. He’d flown some distance behind you to avoid detection, then tailed you into the village. He’d sensed the lycan just as easily as you, ready to fight it off, before he saw you take it on by yourself. Hyunjin couldn’t believe his eyes. Lycans, he knew, were nearly indestructible, yet you tore them apart with little effort. Whatever Felix injected into you made you stronger than anyone else. Maybe even stronger than those Heisenbergs.
“What else did you notice?”
“Well, his parents are cruel, that’s for sure. You should’ve seen it, Felix,” Hyunjin frowned. “He begged them to let him come home, and they turned him away. I heard the whole thing. He would’ve stayed there longer if the villagers hadn’t come back from church.” He pushed hair from your face, his fingers feather-light on your skin. “How could a parent do that to their child? It’s always astounded me. These people sacrifice their children to keep on living. That mother should’ve let her sickness consume her rather than give up her son to an unimaginable fate.”
“Yes, yes, yes, that’s all very sad,” Felix said dismissively, “What else did you notice about him?”
That you’re a tortured soul who seeks a proper home and family. Hyunjin examined your face. He took in the shape of your eyes and nose; the curve of your lips and your soft cheeks. It was a face only Gods could create. He could spend forever painting you and find each picture more beautiful than the last. He’d been shocked when he found you in the dungeon, dirty and living off scraps. You should be sitting in the conservatory amongst the blooming flowers, or in the music room playing the piano with your lovely fingers.
“Hyunjin!”
“He’s not that much different from us,” he finally answered, wishing Felix would leave the Frankenstein act for another time. “He picked up on Chan and Changbin before I did.”
“Chan and Changbin were there?”
“Yes, and Jisung too,” he said. He hadn’t told you about the three wolves that had stalked you in the forest. He’d spotted them whilst trying to catch sight of you again from above. “I believe they caught him by chance and didn’t know what or who he was.”
“Wonderful,” Felix scoffed. “Now those damned mongrels know about him. They’ve likely already gone to their scoundrel father and told him. Mother Miranda will know sooner than I would’ve liked.” He took a deep breath. “I have to tell Mother. She’s already upset with me for doing the experiments without Miranda’s permission. Hearing about this will make things worse.”
“She has every right to be angry at you.” Minho appeared in the doorway, stern and stoic as always. He walked into the bedroom, hands behind his back, and stood beside Felix. “She thinks you’re trying to replace Jimin-”
“-That isn’t what I’m doing-”
“-I know it isn’t, but she doesn’t,” he cut him off. “Felix, you need to go and explain yourself. If Mother Miranda confronts her about it, she'll need to know what to say. If we're lucky, Miranda will see this as an effort against the Huntsman-”
“-It is an effort against the Huntsman-” Felix argued hotly.
“-And not punish all of us for your reckless actions.”
“You do recall assisting me, right?” Felix said, fully turning to him. “You held him down; you injected him. You’re equally guilty.”
“That was because I believed in your vision, and I still do,” he said. “The Huntsman is a greater threat to our family than Mother Miranda realizes, and I’d do anything I could to stop them. But, we cannot kill them if we’re all dead.”
“Miranda wouldn’t kill us or Mother,” Felix argued. “We’ll get a slap on the wrist and be warned to never do it again.”
“Felix, what you’ve done is far more serious and you know that. You stole Cadou parasites from Moreau, who was given those by Miranda herself,” he said. “When she learns you’ve been basically stealing her property, she might not be so lenient. I told you the consequences of these experiments when you started them, and you ignored me every single time. This one is the last one,” he nodded to your sleeping form. “If he dies, that’s the end of it. No more mad-science experiments, got it?”
Hyunjin watched Felix stare at him defiantly. “No.”
“What do you mean ‘No’?”
“No. I will not stop trying until the Huntsman is dead.”
“There are other ways.”
“Name them.”
“Oh, I don’t know. Perhaps if all of us put our pride aside, we can work with the other lords to destroy him. The other houses cannot handle them on their own, but if we do it together-”
“-I can’t believe you’re suggesting that,” Felix huffed. “Us working with those weaklings. It’s prosperous.”
“They are far from weak, and you know that. Tsk all you want, Felix, you know it’s true. You’ve seen what those Heisenbergs can do in and out of their wolf forms. Lord help that Huntsman if they end up near the reservoir when Seungmin is around, and have you forgotten what Jeongin can do with flowers and dolls? If we combine all those skills, we have a fighting chance. Hyunjin,” he turned to him, “Back me up on this. We cannot keep having let down after let down; failure after failure like this.”
Hyunjin did not know how to answer. He thought about his mother’s teary eyes when she stared at Jimin’s crystalized corpse in the music room. She wept for weeks. She still does though she hides it from them. Hyunjin hated thinking Felix tried replacing Jimin so soon after his death. Jimin was their brother, their blood. When he explained his intentions, Hyunjin stood behind him out of hope. Staring down at you, he wondered if you really could kill the Huntsman. He thought about you ending the same way as Jimin, and it made him sad. However, the alternative is to work with the other families. Hyunjin did not care for any of them either way, but his family did so he joined them in their distaste. Yet, he could not deny their strengths.
“It’d be great if we could have both,” he said.
“Yes, but sometimes we cannot have both,” Felix said.
“Maybe this time we can? YN might not be able to do it alone. He’d need help, and if we all join forces-”
“-I said ‘no’!” Felix said through gritted teeth with a foot stomp. “I don’t want anything to do with those damned dogs!”
He turned into his swarm and blew through the doors. Neither Minho or Hyunjin brought up the reason Felix may dislike the idea of an alliance.
Chan Heisenberg.
****
A/N: So, has YN found a new home or will he drift off again? Sorry this update took so long. Just been having trouble finding inspiration lately. Hope this makes up for that <3

"Cure of Infection: A BTS x SKZ Crossover Zombie Apocalypse Story: Part One
=
The scenario: Post apocalyptic AU. Zombie Apocalyse AU.
So this IS a BTS fic technically but in reality it's somewhat of a BTS x SKZ cross over and there will be other idols mixed in as well because I think it makes it special and also I got creative liberty and I'm letting my mind run wild. And it's poly b/c it's the end of the world, dammit and there's enough shit going on. I say if you find love, hold on to that shit.
The setting: The world has gone to absolute shit. A virus wiped out a good portion of the population and the entire planet plummeted into chaos leaving the inhabitants struggling to survive.
=
Two pairs of feet scuffled across the street.
The dirt and crime of a time not too long ago still stains the world like a fading bruise.
It wasn't that long ago at all and yet at times it felt like ages ago.
"N-Noona… I- I don't think I can keep going."
The voice is breathless and the woman can tell it's because it's struggling to breath.
"Yes, you can, Lixie. I got you. Come on." she said, tightening her hold on him, basically supporting him at this point. "We gotta get back home. Binnie is waiting on us with promises of cuddles. And Minho is probably making supper. I'll bet it's delicious."
He forced a laugh, the deep rumbling sound, almost broken and she could tell that tears were building up.
"Noona, I've been bitten. I- I - I can't go back." he said.
"Felix." she said. "You are going back with me. No matter what. I promised you. You and me forever. You're gonna be fine. We just need to get home and I'll clean the bite and it'll be ok."
"But Noona… it's too far." he said, emotions finally getting the best of him.
"No." she stated firmly, stopping to completely pull him onto her back. "It's alright. I'll look after you. I always do."
She could Felix crying into her neck as she navigated the streets.
Ever watchful and on the lookout for Creepers.
That's what they called them.
Creepers.
It made it a little easier to do what you needed to do.
It hurt at times because eventually you ran into someone who you used to know… and they were just gone.
A shadow of who they used to be.
She moved along for the longest time, just surging forward.
She had to get Felix back.
A groan from over her shoulder made her freeze in her tracks.
Felix's normal groan was tinged with something and when she looked, his usually beautiful dark eyes had gone cloudy.
"Shit." she cursed and she hurried him off to the side behind a dumpster. "Hold on, Lixie. Hold on."
He was turning.
She thought they had more time.
She knew it would be close but she honestly thought she could get him back but as soon as she ripped his shirt open, she discovered why.
It wasn't just one bite but two.
More bites, more virus, faster acceleration, less time.
She leaned forward to press a kiss to his forehead, grasping his freckled cheeks for a moment.
"It's ok, Lixie. Noona will fix it. I'm sorry, baby. I'm so sorry. It's gonna hurt but try not to scream if you can." she said, hands shaking as fear overtook her.
She couldn't lose Felix.
Not Felix.
She'd already lost so many people.
She couldn't lose him.
Not her Lixie.
She pulled the bicycle pump that she had rigged from her bag and attached it to the worse bite.
"I'm sorry, baby." she whispered before she started pumping.
He went to scream and she had to stop and slam her hand over his mouth.
"You gotta be quiet, Felix." she said, tears actually rolling down her face at this point.
She was scared.
"Hey, do you need help?"
She jumped at the sound of the deep voice peering around the corner at her.
Instantly on guard.
There were still people left but a good portion of them were absolutely vicious.
Not all of them … but she'd met a good deal who weren't so kind.
She didn't have time for this and instantly drew her weapon.
She couldn't deal with this!
If she didn't hurry up she was going to lose Felix!
The stranger put his hands up, "Hey, hey. Listen, I'm not a threat. I saw you limping in here with him. He looks like he's bitten. And I hate to say it but I mean…"
He trailed off and she thrust the sword at him.
"Shut up." she snapped. "I know what I'm doing. I can fix it if I can get back to it. I just have to get it before he- Felix? Lixie?!"
Felix's head had tilted back and his mouth fell open.
She gasped in horror and shook him.
"No, Lixie. Please, baby!" she said, reattaching the contraption and pumping furiously.
The newcomer watched in amazement as she pulled the thick black sludge from the bite mark until it began to turn back to the normal color of his blood.
She wiped it off on her shirt before repeating the same on the other wound.
Felix thrashed around as she did because the process was extremely painful.
"I know, Lixie. I'm sorry, baby. I have too. It's ok. Noona will fix it. Noona will fix it. Noona's got you." she said, full panic setting into her tone.
The man sat down beside her and actually flinched back at the aggressive look she gave him.
He put his hands up, "Hey, I swear I'm not gonna do anything. What do you need? I'll help. I-I had no idea this was even possible. I- what can I do?"
She never slowed in her process of drawing out the thick black goo from Felix's bite.
"Just- just keep watch. And hold this against the other one. I'm scared he'll bleed to death before I can treat him." she said sniffling. "Please… and thank you."
He nodded, grabbing the cloth sticking out from her back pocket and pressing it again Felix's torso, making him groan again.
"Put your hand over his mouth." she whispered, "If he keeps screaming, he's going to draw them and then we're all fucked."
"I'm Taehyung by the way." the stranger said doing as she asked and keeping a look out. "Do you have anywhere to go? How far are you staying from here?"
She hesitated in answering as she finished the pumping of the other bite and pressed a cloth into it.
"We… do. But it's too far right now. I need to treat him right now… and not on the side of the street. He'll be ok for now. I've pulled the cells out but that means he's lost a lot of blood and I need to get some medicine in him and a transfusion or… he.." she said, her voice thick with emotion.
"Noona…" Felix said weakly, eyes opening again to reveal those deep dark orbs she loved so much.
"I'm here, Lixie. I'm here." she said holding his face and pressing another kiss to his forehead.
Taehyung stared at them for a moment longer, "Come with me then. My base isn't too far. And I'll help you carry him."
She was hesitant and he sighed.
"I know you don't trust me. No one trusts anyone anymore but you just said that you need to treat him and by the looks of you, you're about to fall over any moment now. You can't carry him anymore either." he said. "Just accept the help."
She stared at Felix for a moment later, searching his eyes for an answer.
"Let's go with him, Noona. So we can go home. I want to make it home." Felix said.
She nodded before turning to look at Taehyung.
She searched his wide dark eyes, looking for a sign of deception but she saw nothing but kindness and worry in that moment.
"Ok, thank you." she said.
Taehyung nodded, helping her get Felix to his feet and slung over their shoulders.
"We can't go back in the main street." he said and he could already see her beginning to panic. "He's bleeding too much and there's too much risk of being seen. But I do know a short cut. I know this is pointless but you're gonna have to trust me."
She nodded, "Let's just get him somewhere safe. I have a short window for treatment before it - let's just go." Taehyung nodded.
He didn't have a clue how she planned to do treatment.
He knew all too well what happened when people got bitten.
It didn't go away.
It just got worse.
But then again, he had never seen anyone pull the cells of the virus out before.
He didn't even realize that was possible and judging by the look of the young man… it had almost killed him in and of itself.
Taehyung hurried them along through a small building into a dark alleyway.
"It's just a little further and we'll reach the gate." he whispered. "You'll be safe."
She nodded but a low, distorted groan sounded behind them.
A creeper was close, most likely following the scent of Felix's blood.
"Get him to safety." she snapped at Taehyung, pulling her backpack off and flinging it towards him. "There are three syringes of medicine in there. Give them to him thirty minutes apart. He'll need a blood transfusion after that. There are clean supplies in a box at the bottom."
"I can't just-" he said.
"Just tell them I'm coming and let me in when I get there. I'll find it. That way right?" she said, drawing the sword.
"But… what if you get bitten?" he asked fearfully.
Felix's eyes flickered, "Noona, no! Don't leave me!"
"Go with Taehyung, Lixie. I'll find you. I always do." she said before she charged away from them and around the corner.
Taehyung was frozen for a second and only brought from his thoughts when Felix sniffled in his arms.
"Come on." he said. "It's ok, man. I got you. She'll be back."
Taehyung pulled Felix along until they reached the gate.
"Taehyung-ah, who is that?" Namjoon's voice sounded through the system at the gate. "He looks like he's been bitten, Taehyung. You know we-"
"Just let us in and I'll explain, hyung." Taehyung said, glancing behind him, hoping and praying that the woman would appear any second.
The gate opened and Taehyung pulled Felix through.

Hellllo, loves! Ok, so I know this is angsty as hell but I just really wanted to do something like this. I like angst. I like supernatural and horror and honestly the zombie thing gets me. So I hope you like the crossover and are excited for the future of this story! If you do, please let me know because while it's not necessary it does really help me to know what is liked and it does give me motivation to keep going.
Thank you so much!

There once was a baker’s daughter, a spoiled girl, who lived in a sleepy village at the foot of a mountain. The baker’s daughter was spoiled because her mother died giving birth to her, so her father sought to keep her happy and fed with all the delicacies he could bake. The baker’s daughter grew up and her body matched the happy life she led. She was plump and happy, and in love with the shepard’s son, Jisung.
Often, they could be found together, eating sweets, on the top of a hill, Jisung’s sheep bleating softly as the sun set. They’d whisper their hopes and dreams to each other. That is where our story begins, with you as the baker’s daughter who was about to give her heart to the shepard’s son.
“I’d like to see what’s over the horizon,” Jisung sighed, hand holding his face up.
Your eyes wandered to his chubby cheeks. You wished you could pinch them. “I’d like to get married.”
You gasped as the words left your mouth, and you knew you had been caught. But Jisung was completely oblivious to your feelings.
Jisung sharply dug a finger into your side. “Maybe if you stopped eating so many of your father's pastries, you'd be married by now.”
Your eyebrows furrowed at the sudden attack. Shame washed through your body, and your throat tightened with emotion. “Thank you for your insight, Jisung. I think I'll be going now.”
“Wait, Dumplin!” Jisung began to protest as you walked away but you couldn't stop.
The tears started to fall and you needed to get out of here. Your feet carried you out of your village and up through an old goat path. The walking turned to running. Soon, your breath was ragged and tearing through your throat. You fought between sobs to gasp in some air. When you finally collapsed, you realized you had fled to the caves behind your village, in the mountains.
You sniffled, looking around at your bearings. In your need to get away from Jisung and his cruel words, you had fled deep into the mountain. You weren’t sure you had ever explored this deep into the caves, even as a child.
“Stupid Jisung,” You hiccuped. “I'll become the baker and you'll see.”
Your tears were hot and still streaming down your face and neck. You attempted to wipe it up by dabbing at your cheeks with the sleeve of your dress. Your eyes were still blurry with tears when you saw the first flash of brilliant light.
You gasped when you caught the second one. Suddenly, there were crystals throughout the cave you were sitting in, glowing with their individual colors. You clapped in delight, your heartache temporarily forgotten.
Will you stop crying now?
You looked around wildly, but you couldn't see who was speaking to you amidst the glowing of the cave. You had heard of the myth of a dragon living under the mountain, but no one in a few generations had ever seen this dragon.
“I…” Your throat tightened up again. How could Jisung say those words to you? He was your supposed best friend. “I'm fine.”
You heard a resounding crack and then a soft tinkle. You saw a crystal lying on the ground in front of you.
For you. To keep the tears away
“I…” You wiped your tears away from your cheeks, still sniffling. This odd moment of kindness healed your heart a little. “Thank you,” you whispered.
You picked up the crystal, and it shone, glowing softly. It rippled through lovely colors of blues, purples, and pinks. “I will treasure it.”
As I will treasure this moment together
You let Jisung apologize profusely when you go back to the village, but your mind wasn't on your babbling best friend. You kept replaying the smooth-as-molasses voice in your head. What exactly had gone on in the caves?
As your days carried on, your father complained when you kneaded the bread too much. You started over two more times until he dismissed you from his kitchen. You couldn't focus enough even on the temptation of mixing the frosting in order to taste the test, of course. That's when you knew you had to go back to the cave.
With your hair braided neatly, and pulled under a kerchief, you made your way back to the cave in the mountains. You kept one hand trailing along the caves wall until your eyes adjusted and another in the pocket of your apron, where you had stashed a rolling pin. You couldn't come completely unarmed. You weren't that enamored with the voice…
“Hello?” You called out cautiously.
Your eyes had adjusted, so you took your hand off the wall and clutched the crystal you had been given. It still blinked and shone but at shorter instances with longer wait time in your room. But it seemed, as you put one foot in front of the other, the crystal shone brighter and for longer.
“I don't wish to intrude!” You called out again, head swinging back and forth, in search of the kind soul who gave you the crystal. “I just wish to see who gave me this.”
Your crystal began to shimmer, casting waves of light against the cave walls.
You'll scream
You pressed your lips together and swallowed. “I won't.”
Was it a monster who had given you a moment of gentle kindness? If so, was it truly a monster then?
Don't say I didn't warn you
Your hands flew upwards to cover your mouth as a beautiful rainbow pearl scaled dragon stepped into the cavern.
Its lovely pale blue eyes blinked at you as it lowered its head to view you.
There, now you can brag to your friend about having seen the dragon
With a saucy whip of its tail that sang over your head, it turned around to leave.
“Wait, please!”
You called out, hand wrapping around its tail in an attempt to stop it. You cried out when a tail spine sliced open your palm.
The dragon trumpeted in distress. One moment, its entire body filled your peripherals, and then, with a bright, blinding light, there was a handsome man with sharp light blue eyes and shockingly white hair in front of you.
“Humans are so thoughtless,” the man scoffed.
His quick thinking had him ripping a strip of the silken robe he had on. He grabbed your injured hand and wrapped it around your hand. He finished the makeshift bandage with an impromptu knot, making you wince with the tightness of it.
“I didn't mean to impose on you,” You said in a dejected voice.
What kind of impression could you have made on this dragon shifter? You bawled like a baby in your first encounter and then acted like some stone-brained imbecile the next. Jisung was wrong. It wasn't the pastries that made it so you weren't married; it was just the fact that you were you.
Tears fell unbiddingly onto your injured hand. The dragon-shifter’s eyes widened in surprise and immediately his voice turned sweet and soft.
“Nonono, sweetheart, don't cry.” The man cupped your cheeks, and his thumbs banished your tears. “I'm happy you came, truly. I would be fortunate to have a gem as bright as you in my collection.”
You smiled, your face heating up at the compliment. The shifter mirrored your smile, his eyes almost disappearing with joy. “That's much better. Your smile only brightens up your face.”
“What's your name?” You inquired simply.
“Hyunjin. But to you, please call me handsome.”
You giggled nervously. “I would call you beautiful. In either form.”
Hyunjin's eyes flitted flirtatiously from the ground to your face. “Do you really think so?”
“You're more breathtaking than one hundred crystals,” You said in awe.
Hyunjin giggled merrily to himself. The cave lit up with his glee, causing you to clap your hands.
And that's how your budding romance began with the crystal dragon.
Your father wasn't too keen on Hyunjin. The village had been terrified the dragon was here to steal a bride. Until you met him at the field and brought him to the bakery to taste some strudels, hot out of the oven. Your father quizzed him with questions of honor, loyalty and priorities in life.
Hyunjin answered as any dragon would. His loyalty was to his treasure trove. His priority was to always add to it. And his honor was his treasure; if he swore on it, you knew it to be true.
The only thing that truly melted your father's heart was seeing the dragon dote on his only daughter. Hyunjin spoiled you with gifts from his trove. Soon you acquired square cut emerald earrings, a fiery opal necklace, the size of a goose egg. He could tell that Hyunjin simply wanted to make you happy, and that's when he finally gave his blessing.
Hyunjin spent so much time in your village, visiting you, that when your father finally allowed Hyunjin to officially court you, Hyunjin allowed you further into his cave--into his treasure trove. He watched you with curious eyes as you took in the grand crystal gate that he kept his treasures behind.
“You live here?” You asked, tipping your head back to take in the wall and door that towered over you.
“It’ll be your home too,” Hyunjin offered tentatively.
You pressed your lips together, your emotions getting the better of you. “Hyunjin…”
Hyunjin’s haughty expression melted into a soft one. He tentatively reached out, and when your hand met his, he giggled. His fingers curled into yours, and although the gesture was adorable, you felt electricity shoot through your body.
“I want you to be mine,” Hyunjin whispered.
You swallowed hard, your throat getting tight. “Why?”
Hyunjin’s eyes became fiery, and you took a step back. “I know how you view yourself; how the villagers speak of you. They are fools. Your soft curves are what make you beautiful. They don’t understand how it is to live with sharp edges. You’re a gift, in my eyes.”
Your body heats up at Hyunjin’s words. You feel tears again threatening to escape, but you don’t want to upset Hyunjin, so you dash them away and smile happily at the dragon. “I want to be yours with every bone in my body, Hyunjin.”
Hyunjin smiled, and your heart skipped a beat. He pulled a key from under his robe, strung across a chain and around his neck. He pulled it off and offered it to you. “This is your key now.”
“Oh…I’m not sure…” You fumbled over what to say. Having a key to Hyunjin’s treasure trove seemed… forward considering…
Hyunjin grabbed your wrist and poured the chain into your palm, closing your fingers over the key. “Please. It will give me peace of mind that you can come here whenever you want.” Hyunjin’s eyes grew sharp at the reminder of the first time you had come across him. “It’ll stop me from going to the village and snatching you back to my cave.”
Your mind raced with the image of Hyunjin in his beautiful dragon form, his talons carefully wrapped around your middle, soaring above the village, kidnapping you from the world you grew up in. You shook your head to come back to reality. “Thank you.”
Something flipped between you and the crystal dragon after Hyunjin gave you the key to his treasure trove. The first hint of it came when Hyunjin had come to visit you while you were working in your father’s bakery. Your father hadn't been feeling good that day, so you had banished him to his favorite chair by the fire and then went to the bakery yourself to make some bread.
By the time Hyunjin had found you, you were in a loose dress, apron and hands covered in flour. Your hair had long given up to the heat of the kitchen and you had sweated enough to perspire through your entire dress.
When you spotted Hyunjin, his jaw was on the floor. You patted your hair with your flour-covered hands. “I probably look a mess, I’m sorry.”
Hyunjin launched himself over the table you had been preparing the bread on and swept you up in his arms. Your body was pressed against his and you felt your face heat up. “Hyunjin?!” You squeaked.
“You look delectable,” Hyunjin said lowly.
Hyunjin caught his tongue between his teeth, and you moaned, eyes zoning into his pretty pink lips. He smoothed his hand over your hair so that he could lean in to speak into your ear. “I can see your nipples through your dress, sweetheart.”
“Oh sourdough,” You cursed.
Hyunjin attempted to hold in his laughter but it came out like a snicker. “Let me give you more reason to sweat?”
You pulled back, bewildered, to look into Hyunjin’s eyes. “But Hyunjin! We aren’t--”
“Dragons mate for life. We don’t do that before being with each other carnally.”
You swallowed as Hyunjin traced the shell of your ear with his tongue. “In the kitchen? What about the bread?”
Hyunjin licked his lips. “I’ve got you sweetheart, don’t worry.”
Hyunjin put you up on the table, in order to push your legs apart and kiss up your thighs. You gasped and moaned as he nipped and sucked and licked along the flesh. He squeezed and griped your thick thighs, moaning himself. “You’re so soft.”
“Isn’t it…”
Whatever self-depreciating comment was about to come out of your mouth was gone because Hyunjin chose that moment to softly kiss your labia. His lips touching the sensitive flesh there made you shiver.
“I’m going to eat you up, sweetheart,” he groaned before plunging his tongue into your pussy.
Your hands dove into his hair, yanking on it harshly. You whined his name, bucking your hips into his thrusting tongue. The messy noises that were coming from between your legs brought even more heat to your neck and chest, embarrassed and turned on at the same time.
“Feeeeels soooo goooood,” you groaned. You tossed your head back in pleasure of the moment, being loved and desired.
Hyunjin began to make noises, as if he was eating the most delicious chocolate cake. “Hyunjin, you can’t sound like--oh god, what are you doing now?”
The dragon had started to slowly suck on your clit, light eyes directly on you. He sucked and sucked until you came for him, breathy moans for his name only. When he came up for air, his face was smeared with your wetness.
“That was only the beginning,” Hyunjin promised, a smile on his face that made your heart skip a beat.
“I think you’re going to get me in a lot of trouble, sir,” you whispered.
“Need to mark you,” Hyunjin breathed out. He stood up and wriggled his hips between your legs. He pushed two fingers into your gushing hole and ate your cries as he stretched you. He curled his fingers inside of you just as his teeth settled on the nape of your neck, biting down on the skin there.
Next he pulled his pants down past his ass, and wrapped his hand around his curved, long cock. “I need to fill you up,” Hyunjin growled.
Your hole was aching, and something inside of you knew that Hyunjin would complete you. “Make me yours, Hyunjin.”
You brought the head of his cock to brush against your entrance. Hyunjin simply rolled his hips and then he was filling you out more than his two fingers had been able to. Your gasps and groans intermingled with the crackling of the fire from your wood stove. In no time at all, Hyunjin had the neck of your dress pulled down so that he could suck on your nipples. He played the tip of his tongue against your stiff peaks, unsatisfied until he was sucking and fucking you.
“Oh god, you’re sucking me in,” Hyunjin gasped. “I don’t know… I’ve got to spill inside of you, sweetheart. Take my love.”
Within moments, the two of you were tipping over the edge. Your cries, deep and high, folded into each other. You felt teeth on your nipple but it just mixed in with the climax you were coming down from. Hyunjin kissed up your chest, along your neck, and then captured your lips. “You were amazing,” He said breathlessly.
“Hyunjin?” You gasped as he continued to stir inside of you.
“Yeah?” The dragon grinned, running a hand through his messy hair from where you had tugged it.
“I think I love you,” You laughed.
Hyunjin’s eyes grew wide, and then his face split with a happy smile, his eyes getting lost in his happiness. “I love you more, sweetheart.”
Your marriage wasn’t far after that. Hyunjin had to have you in every way. He could barely stand letting you sleep in your father’s house any longer. He was sure someone else was going to steal you away, always ready to glare a warning at Jisung.
Although your marriage was a joyous occasion, you still shed tears for the life you let go. You let go of your dreams of being with Jisung. You cried for leaving your first half of your life behind living with your father as a happy child. You cried for the most important moment of your life happening without your mother. You cried for your old sad self who didn’t believe in her own beauty.
Hyunjin didn’t let any of those tears hit the ground, however. His fingers brushed them away and then he played with the first crystal he had gifted you with that hung around your neck still. “I don’t want to see you cry ever again. I’ll do everything in my power to always make you happy. You’re the greatest gem I have in my treasure trove, after all.”
You giggled at Hyunjin being overly corny. You smushed some frosting onto his gorgeous face, the cake your father made for your wedding; the most delicious thing you had ever had the pleasure of eating. “And you’re better than any sweet pastry I’ve ever made.”
Hyunjin glowed brighter than any of his crystals at the compliment. And you promised yourself that you could only hope to make him this happy every day of your lives.

Babies? | Stray Kids Extra Member AU
Request: "If you don’t mind, I want some crack. Nicholas asking OT8 for a baby 😭"
WARNINGS: I don't know. This was a field day ;-; Chewy is Nicholas' cat
Nicholas Ross Master List | ?Reaction style?
Scenario
Nicholas was scrolling through TikTok and found a video of a baby. Her chubby cheeks and big brown eyes shined in the camera. He cooed as he listened to her giggles. Could you imagine a baby running around?
Holy shit, this is what baby fever is like.
Nicholas quickly hopped off the counter, almost taking a salt shaker down, and ran out of the kitchen. Sitting in the living room was the member he was looking for.
"I want a baby."/"Give me a baby."
BANG CHAN "I want a baby."
Chan froze. A baby? Why are we thinking about babies? He has enough kids to look after and those kids can't have kids. Not yet, anyway. Nicholas of all of them? He's not mentally prepared for that.
He shook his head as he went back to his journal. "We have Jeongin and Felix."
LEE MINHO "I want a baby."
"Don't you have Chewy?" The response was immediate, and Minho hadn't looked away from the TV. He heard Nicholas huff and paused his show.
"Why would you want a kid? You are a kid," Minho groaned, rolling his eyes as Nicholas flopped next to him. The younger boy shrugged, shoving his phone into Minho's face.
"Okay, that baby is cute, but still no."
SEO CHANGBIN "I want a baby"
He choked on his water. One of his members. A child, a toddler, a baby! One of them just asked for a baby.
"You're a baby!" Changbin yelled, chucking the now-closed water bottle at Nicholas. The bottle made a loud thud as it hit the wall, completely off track from Nicholas. He continued, "Babies shouldn't be having babies!"
"But they're cute," Nicholas whined, trying to show Changbin the video. Emphasis on trying. Changbin shoved the phone away and onto the floor.
"No!"
HWANG HYUNJIN "Give me a baby"
Hyunjin continued his art piece. He was painting an eye hidden in a sunset. Nicholas huffed. It was like he didn't hear him.
"How?"
So he did hear him. Hyunjin was just ignoring him. Rude. Nicholas walked behind him to watch him paint. "I don't know. You'll find a way."
"You're the one who wants a baby. You find a way," Hyunjin argued, shrugging his shoulders as he looked back at Nicholas.
"That is a very difficult task," Nicholas huffed, and Hyungjin hummed before continuing his painting, silently dismissing Nick.
HAN JISUNG "I want a baby"
Jisung hummed in thought as he paused his show. After a moment, he patted the spot next to him, and Nicholas sat down. The two stared at each other before Jisung smiled at him. "I want one, too. Where do we find one?"
This isn't how Nicholas imagined this conversation going. "What?"
"Where do we find one?" Jisung repeated. Felix happened to be walking into the living room, and Jisung called out, "Felix, help!"
LEE FELIX (Read Jisung's part)
"What's wrong?" Felix asked, pausing in the middle of the living room.
"We want a baby," Nicholas answered. Felix tilted his head in thought before sitting next to Nicholas.
"We can adopt one," Felix grinned. This is definitely not how Nicholas imagined this conversation going.
"Are you sure?" He whispered, peeking over the couch in the hallway. Any of the members could hear them scheming for a child.
"You're the one who wants one. Are you sure?" Felix asked. The two stared at each other before Nicholas got up.
Running out of the hallway, Nicholas shouted, "I'm too young for children!"
KIM SEUNGMIN "Give me a baby"
Seungmin lay on the couch, looking at something on his phone. He sighed. Every day was something new. Yesterday, Jisung convinced Nicholas to buy two plushies half the size of their fridge.
Today, Nicholas wants a child.
"No," Seungmin mumbled, and Nicholas whined. Seungmin ignored him and continued scrolling. Feeling eyes on him, Seungmin peeked around his phone and looked directly at a pouting Nicholas.
"Even if I wanted to, that's physically impossible," He groaned, looking back at his phone. He heard Nicholas huff before the older boy sat on the floor next to him.
"You're right," Nicholas sighed.
YANG JEONGIN "Give me a baby"
Jeongin's head snapped toward Nicholas, and the taller boy flinched. Jeongin blinked once, then twice. "What?"
"Give me a baby."
"How am I supposed to give you one?!" Jeongin screeched, leaning on his knees. Nicholas shrugged as he sat next to him.
"Figure it out."
"I'm too young to have a baby," Jeongin huffed, and Nicholas nodded in agreement.
"Me too," He sighed.
"Then why ask for one?!"
"I wanted to know how you'd react," Nicholas shrugged before leaving for the kitchen.

Road to Relationship Background/Profiles
Masterlist for Road to Relationship Main Masterlist
Hello, all!
Just a reminder that this series is a semi-social media au, meaning it will use some social media emblems but it will not be the main medium. It will be mostly fake texts and a written story format with additional social media elements.
If you understand that, I will show how the profiles look for the most part!
A/N: The other members and profiles will not be uploaded until they have a bigger role in the story. In addition to this, others' information will be updated as the story continues on. This is essentially a School!SKZ AU, but their passions and relationships with each other remain.
[Y/N] -> Childhood best friend of Minho. Good friends with Chan, Felix, and Seungmin. Has been in one situationship, but otherwise no other relationships. Begins to crush on her classmate, Jeon Jungkook, which leads to her begging for Minho to be her wingman.
Lee Minho -> Childhood best friend of [Y/N]. Dance major. Best friends with Jisung, Hyunjin, and Felix. Never supported her situationship, but was there for her regardless. Stays the sarcastic, teasing best friend while being a caretaker to her but starts to become more possessive as she looks at other guys.
Bang Chan -> Big brother figure and good friends with [Y/N]. Once used to like her with unreciprocated feelings, but worked better as friends. Have been close since. Basically her therapist friend.
Seo Changbin -> TBA
Hwang Hyungjin -> TBA
Han Jisung -> Same friend group as Chan and Changbin due to mutual musical interests. Best friends with Minho. His own therapist friend.
Lee Felix -> TBA
Kim Seungmin -> Close friends with [Y/N], Chan, and Felix. Has been showing more interest lately... (More info TBA)
Yang Jeongin -> Younger brother figure to [Y/N], though he does often try to get her attention.
Jeon Jungkook -> Best friends with Taehyung. Classmate and eventual friend of [Y/N] who ends up taking the same lower division general education classes as her.
Kim Taehyung -> Best friends with Jungkook.
Happy reading and I hope you enjoy 🫶 ~Rumia~

The Kissing Bet ~ Hyunjin
Pairing: (Stray Kids) Hwang Hyunjin x reader
Genre: Suggestive, fluff
Word Count: 1.3K
Summary: You bet Hyunjin that he can’t go twelve hours without kissing you. As such, the next twelve hours are full of teasing, trying to get him to lose.
Despite having dated you for two years already, Hyunjin never really migrated out of that “honeymoon phase” of your relationship. He always needed to be near you in some way, whether it be holding your small hand in his, or enveloping you in his warm embrace. However, the most apparent addiction he had was kissing.
You could recall his shyness at the beginning of the relationship, how he was so reluctant to kiss you. As time passed, and your hearts grew closer, Hyunjin slowly came out of his shell, in a way, being less hesitant to press his lips against yours. And you loved it--how could you not? His soft, plump lips against yours, ever so gentle, were like heaven, warming your heart, filling it with love and endearment.
Even now, when his kisses were frequent, you weren’t complaining. “Frequent” was actually an understatement--it was as though he had an addiction to kissing you. Even with no motivation behind it, he’d kiss you. It was as though he needed to have his lips against yours.
Which was exactly what brought you to this predicament. It was 10:00 AM on a Saturday morning, and Hyunjin was granted a day off. You had just sat down after grabbing a glass of water from the kitchen, and he kissed you. It didn’t last very long: only a few seconds, and you could feel how his mouth was curled into a grin against yours. With a giggle, you said, “You can’t stop; can you?”
Perplexed, your boyfriend replied with a puzzled expression on his flawless features. “Stop what?”
“Kissing me. It’s as though you have an addiction.”
“I do not!” Hyunjin replied indignantly and dramatically. “What’s wrong with me wanting to kiss my girlfriend?
“Nothing,” you assured him. “I love it. I just find it really funny. It’s like you couldn’t go twelve hours without kissing me.”
“Wanna bet?”
“Yeah,” you replied confidently. “I bet you can’t go until 10:00 tonight without kissing me.”
“Oh, yeah? Deal,” he said without an ounce of doubt in his voice. “What happens if I win -- oops, sorry, I mean, when I win.”
You sat and pondered for a moment. See, you hadn’t actually thought this would go as far as it had. Even still, you were curious to see how this would play out. As your thoughts came together, you smirked. “If you win,” you said quietly in his ear, “then you can have me in any way you want me.”
Your breath against his ear, as well as the words that came out of your mouth, sent shivers down Hyunjin’s spine. You could see how much it affected him. He swallowed thickly before saying, “And if you win?”
You shrugged nonchalantly, as if what you were about to say was no big deal to either of you. “No sex for a week.” Your voice was plain and simplistic.
Hyunjin’s jaw dropped a bit, as he sat with his mouth agape, staring at you. He was not going to lose this bet. “Fine,” he replied. “Twelve hours. Easy.” Even still, when he looked into your eyes, he saw determination and confidence, staring back at him. He could tell right then that you would not make this easy on him.
A few hours later, you were finishing up a report you’d needed to finish for work. Hyunjin was on the couch in the family room, watching “Stranger Things” and eating ramen. It was going to be a perfect time to tease him.
You put on one of Hyunjin’s baggy hoodies, knowing how much he loved it when you wore his clothes. You walked out to him, joining him on the couch. “Hi,” you mumbled, nuzzling his shoulder. In an instant, his arm went around you, pulling you closer to him.
Your innocence didn’t last long, however. Immediately, you moved your leg over his so you were straddling his lap. His eyes were searching yours, trying to read your expression and somehow figure out what you were trying to do. Cute, you thought. You ducked your head down to pepper kisses against his sharp jawline, which you knew left him weak. You trailed your mouth down the smooth skin of his neck, briefly inhaling his comforting scent. “I wanna cuddle,” you said in a cute voice.
Hyunjin’s hands went under his hoodie, holding your bare waist. His jaw clenched, and you saw in his body language how much he wanted to kiss you right then and there. He then slid his hands down and gently caressed your thighs. “ You can’t do that,” he told you. “You can’t just come in here, wearing nothing but underwear and my hoodie, start kissing my neck, and then tell me you just want to cuddle.”
“Says who? Those weren’t in the rules we established,” You replied, feigning innocence.
Hyunjin pouted, before he lifted you off of him. You guys cuddled for the next few hours, and you teased him a bit, leaving marks on his neck or placing your hand on his thigh.
Following this, before dinnertime (leftover takeout,) you announced that you were about to shower. Mischievously, you asked him if he wished to join you. He coughed, and you knew images popped into his head of you guys in the shower two nights prior.
After a few more painful hours, you were down to the final few minutes of the bet. You had to admit that you wanted to kiss him badly. After a day of teasing him, you had gotten fairly riled up, yourself.
Oh, how much you wanted to be straddling his lap, his familiar, comforting lips being not-so-gentle against yours as he grasped your hips, fire igniting between you two, and his mouth opening, leading the kiss expertly…
“Just kiss me already.” Your words were more of a plead and not so much a challenge. As much as you tried to hide the desperate whine in your voice, it was still there. Maybe you couldn’t go twelve hours without kissing him, either.
Hyunjin shut his eyes, and you knew this was difficult for him to resist, too. “No,” he sighed, fighting to hold himself back. “I’m not losing. Plus, I want my reward.”
You had completely forgotten about his reward, but thinking about it wasn’t helping your state. It was obvious how badly you both had wanted each other all day, and the thought of you guys finally having each other...you grew even warmer in your hoodie as your cheeks flushed. It didn’t go unnoticed by Hyunjin.
“What about the punishment if you lose?” you asked, acknowledging how he’d never mentioned that part of the argument.
His next words surprised you. “Oh, babygirl, you would have never lasted a week.” The sentence was followed with a sly giggle, and you pouted.
“I could, too! It’s you who wouldn’t be able to last a week.”
“Stop. We’re not seeing how long we could go without sex.”
You crawled over to him and sat on his lap, your faces just inches from each other. “Just do it,” you begged, kissing his forehead and then his cheek. “Please. I need you. This challenge was excruciating.” Of course, you could have closed the distance, but that would be unfair to him.
“And you said that I couldn’t last twelve hours. You’ve been teasing me all day, too.”
Just then the timer rang on your phone, notifying you that the challenge was over. Hyunjin had won. Your eyes locked with his, and you saw, even in the dim lighting, how his pupils were blown wide in his eyes, overcome with desire. Without another moment to spare, he kissed you roughly. He pulled you infinitely closer to him, his mouth passionate, hot, and needy against yours. You let out a small gasp against his mouth.
“I won,” he whispered into your ear, breaking away from your lips for a few seconds. “What’s my reward?”
As a response, you kissed him again hungrily, both of you already knowing the answer.

The Heir and the Library of Secrets (SKZ Royal AU) (Part 9)
~Megan~
Masterlist
Y/N hardly lived, having to work and care for her two brothers. The heir lived in constant fear that he would be killed before becoming king. But secrets are told, old and new faces find their way close, and the lives they had known start unraveling.
Felix/Changbin x Reader
Word count: 1k
Part 1
Hyunjin and Jisung came rushing back into the room a few minutes after Minho left. The taller one sat next to Felix on a side chair, and Jisung sat on Felix’s bed carefully, trying hard not to hurt the heir.
“So, you're really okay?” Jisung checked, biting his lip and puffing out his cheeks.
Hyunjin slapped his squirrel of a brother on the arm and rolled his eyes. “He's alive but in pain! That's what Minho-hyung said.”
“Funny…” Felix started, trailing off.
Hyunjin turned his full attention to his half-brother. “What is it?”
“You guys are acting so nice…”
“Why wouldn't we?” Jisung asked, laughing like it was the most obvious thing. “You almost died, like, five times in the past month!”
Felix only closed his eyes. That's why I can't trust anyone, he thought. Not even you.
Jisung seemed to understand his fear. “I guess that would make us suspects.”
“We would never try to hurt you, though!” Hyunjin objected, though he sounded more confused than anything. “But, I guess we understand that… sometimes we think we can't trust anyone.”
Felix opened his eyes. “Tch. What do you know?”
“We were raised as frauds, remember?” Jisung reminded him. “Our mother wasn't a royal at all, and we knew it. So we had to pretend to be real, and had to protect our mother. And then she died.”
Felix widened his eyes. “Ah, you're right…” he admitted quietly. “I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking.”
Hyunjin poked Felix’s cheek softly. “It's alright, bro. Besides, you're hurting right now, so we should be making you happy.”
Silence fell over them, as if from out of nowhere. Then, just as randomly, the heir recalled his mother, sick in bed. “Is my mum alright?”
His words froze the room. Nothing moved for a moment, until Jisung stood abruptly, casting a sad look to Hyunjin, and left the room, running a hand through his hair. Hyunjin stared wide-eyed at the door, and then slowly turned back to Felix. He stood with his hands pulled up to his stomach, playing with his fingers. His eyes were gleaming with a sadness Felix didn’t recognise.
“She's… dead.”
Felix’s jaw dropped. In just a few days, his mum died. Wasn't she projected to die in a few months? What went wrong? He clenched the blanket on him tightly, feeling like he was going to vomit. Something wasn’t right.
“She was poisoned, right?”
“What?”
“My mother was poisoned! Was she not?”
“Well-” Hyunjin began, but Felix cut him off.
“Did you do it?”
Hyunjin shook his head frantically. “Of course not!”
Felix tried to shout in frustration, because his instincts—over the course of hardly a month—had become so untrusting, but his chest started to heave with scratchy, burning coughs. He lurched forward in pain, and felt the wound in his stomach sting.
His half-brother’s eyes went wide and he leapt out of his seat in a hurry. “Felix, you're coughing blood, dang it! I'll be right back—don't move!”
I can't move anyway, idiot, the heir thought.
His throat stung. He felt like throwing up. He wanted everything to stop, and even though the coughing halted, his mouth continued to drip blood while his body shook with shivers and echoed in pain.
“Your Highness!”
Felix couldn't really see through the tears in his eyes and he was distracted by the blood in front of him, but he had heard the door open and close. The newcomer’s voice rang out welcomingly, with a familiar tone he could never forget.
The person placed a hand on Felix’s forehead. “You're burning up.”
“Chan?” he whispered.
His servant nodded and pressed a cup to his lips, letting him drink slowly. The warm, sweet liquid poured down his throat, and he made sure to drink it all. It soothed his cough, so he could finally relax back in his bed, but he cringed at the metallic taste of blood.
Chan took a wet rag from out of nowhere and gently scrubbed Felix’s face. “I’m sorry about your mother…”
Felix cringed. “Did you know? That it was poison?”
“Of course I did.”
“You didn’t try to help?”
“Of course I did.”
The heir wanted to say something again, but a slight burn in his throat reminded him it would be best to stop.
“She must’ve had a death wish,” Chan muttered.
“She’s not,”--Felix paused to swallow--“stupid.”
“Seemed like she thought she would be able to survive without help.” He dipped the rag in water again.
Felix bit his lip. “You… couldn’t have helped? Secretly?”
“It will not do to dwell on the unchangeable,” Chan said sadly. “For now, let’s focus on you.”
Felix cast a quizzical glance at him, then adjusted his position slightly.
“You have to get better, and you can’t die yet. You must become king!”
The heir flinched. King. The word felt guilty. It felt scary. It felt dangerous.
“If you don’t become king, the council will take the throne, Felix,” Chan pleaded. He gently patted the royal’s face with the rag a few times before setting it down. “You know they won’t let your brothers step in. Only you can.”
Chan held Felix’s gaze for a moment until Felix turned away anxiously. The servant turned and sighed, putting a hand on the door handle. His voice became quiet. “Just… keep your brothers close. They’ll keep you safe and help you recover. Do that…” he trailed off in the middle of his sentence, wary, “and you’ll be able to stay in town for your training.”
Felix widened his eyes and snapped his head back to look at him. “That’s still happening?”
Chan nodded as if it was obvious. “I promise I’ll do anything to carry out your mother’s wish.”
For the first time since Felix had become a target, he smiled. Then, the servant left, leaving an air of hope in the room.
Even through the pain, Felix found that he was feeling better already.
Chan closed the door behind him and nodded to the other Princes, who had patiently waited outside the room. Jisung nodded back at him with a relieved smile as he hurried inside the room again. Hyunjin walked toward the door, and Chan began to walk away until the half-Prince gently pulled him into a hug, earning a surprised gasp from him. Chan, as a servant, had never really been shown true physical affection by anyone outside his small family. He felt his heart warm happily.
“Thank you, Chan,” he said in a whisper, “thanks for taking care of our brother.”
Chan patted his back awkwardly. “It’s only my duty-”
Hyunjin quickly held him at arm’s length, staring at him with a smile. “The way you treat us all is more than your duty. You aren’t supposed to be more than a ‘beck-and-call’ servant, and you aren’t even meant to acknowledge us as princes. But you do.”
Chan’s lips lifted in a smile. As he opened his mouth to thank him, Hyunjin spoke. “You’re like a brother to us, not just a friend.”
Family had always been Chan’s soft spot. Thinking about these Princes, he had at first considered them inhuman and incomparable to himself -- but now he could only think of them as very human, misunderstood boys that had barely gotten normal lives. Now, putting them under this new light -- brothers -- brought tears to his eyes. Quietly, Chan nodded his head in embarrassment, trying his best to keep tears from falling.
Hyunjin only embraced him again.

A group of boys had gone out earlier to wander around New York for a bit, expecting Xiang to come with them. When they’d texted her that morning, she hadn’t responded and none of the boys who stayed back at the hotel saw her either. Her day-long disappearance is the root of the boys’ teasing.
She shoves Felix's head to the side before sitting next to Jisung, "Sorry that I'm tired and my body hates me. Gotta take a day every once in a while."
"Your body hates you?" Jeongin repeats.
"I am, in fact, a woman," Xiang says. "Wink wink, nudge nudge."
"Oh my god, is it contagious? Get away from me!" Jisung says in an exaggeratedly high-pitched voice and scooting backward on the bed.
Seungmin laughs as he sits down on Xiang's other side, dodging her legs as she lunges at Jisung.
Xiang wrestles Jisung down onto the bed before shoving a pillow in his face, "I will destroy your bloodline!"
Jisung laughs into the pillow and blindly pushes Xiang away. She sits back down and looks around for the pizzas Seungmin had texted her that he and the other younger members had ordered. She stands a little too quickly and her vision goes blurry, head spinning. She grabs onto Seungmin's shoulder and blinks a few times.
"You okay?" Seungmin asks, putting an arm behind her back in case she falls.
She shakes her head to clear it, "Whoo, yeah. Head rush."
"Is that more of 'my body hates me' or...?"
"Guess I haven't drunk enough water recently."
"I'll get you a cup."
Seungmin sets his plate down and goes to fill a cup with water. Xiang walks over to where the three pizza boxes are laid out on the desk. She takes two slices then sits back down beside Jisung and pulls her legs up to sit cross legged.
"What have you been doing all day besides wallowing in your own misery?" Hyunjin asks.
"Don't sass me about how hard periods hit sometimes, you privileged male," Xiang says. She thanks Seungmin as he hands her a cup of water.
"Does the likelihood of you attacking people physically and verbally go up when it's that time of the month?" Jisung asks.
He flinches away with a laugh as Xiang hits him hard in the arm.
"You're going to roast me for a bodily function I have no control of when you got too hype yesterday and face planted in the middle of 'YAYAYA'? Nice try."
"That's- How is that relevant?" Jisung tries to reason as the other boys fall into laughter.
Jisung glares at Xiang and she glares right back, pointedly taking a bite of pizza in his face.
"At least I'm not still going through puberty," Jisung says, turning his attention to Jeongin, "We all pretended not to notice how badly Jeongin's voice cracked during "Astronaut" but it was totally noticeable! There are probably already remixes of it up on YouTube."
“You said no one even noticed!" Jeongin says, looking accusingly at Hyunjin.
Hyunjin flounders for a response then points a finger at Felix accusingly, "Felix, like, constantly and unnecessarily flashes his abs!"
"Hey, the fans are into it!"
"Okay, mAn WhOrE."
"OI!"
Jeongin quickly gets out from in between Hyunjin and Felix as the latter starts to try and strangle Hyunjin. Xiang moves her plate out of the way and lets Jeongin sit in front of her, all of them laughing as the two roughhouse on the adjacent bed. Eventually, Hyunjin and Felix call a truce and go back to sitting on the bed. The six of them eat and talk about what they're excited about during the tour. Soon, Xiang notices she's finished her pizza and doesn't care that much, too busy talking and laughing with the boys.
Xiang yawns and checks the time.
"Well, I'm tired," she announces.
"Why, because your body hates you?" Jisung teases.
"I hope you're aware that Chan will let me into his and your room and leave so he has plausible deniability for when I brutally murder you."
"Yeesh, touchy."
Xiang smacks the back of his head as she goes to throw her plate and cup away.
She starts for the door, "See you losers in the morning."
"I'll come with you; I'm tired, too," Hyunjin speaks up.
Xiang waits for him to throw his plate away and join her. They exchange a few goodnights with the other boys before leaving for their rooms. They start down the hall.
"Are you doing okay?" Hyunjin asks out of the blue.
"Uh... yeah?" Xiang answers slowly.
"You just seem tired a lot lately," he says, "And.. I don't know, lackluster?"
Xiang stops at her room and Hyunjin stops with her. As she swipes her room key along the handle and pushes it open, she sends Hyunjin a playful grin.
"Don't worry, my second favorite Hwang, I'll be sure to bring it in Atlanta and outshine all of you. Don't even worry about it."
Hyunjin forces a smile and a laugh, "Yeah, sure."
"'Night, Hyunjin."
"'Night..."
Xiang shuts her hotel room door behind her and Hyunjin stays there for a minute. At first, Hyunjin had no clue why Yeji asked him to keep an eye on Xiang. She didn't seem to be acting out of the ordinary. But he started thinking about what he'd gotten used to her doing. She eats less than him and the others and he'd figured it was just because she's smaller but he's not sure if she's eating too little or he just overestimates how much she needs to eat. When he thinks back, Xiang used to always watch the makeup artists work on her in the mirror. He's noticed she rarely looks in the mirror at all anymore and when she does, it's only to fix her hair or makeup, like she doesn't want to look at herself.
Maybe he's reading too much into it. Maybe he just doesn't understand how girls work. Whatever it may be, he's worried about her but doesn't know how to go about it. So he just releases a breath and goes to his own room.
