ok, people who've read erha, help me out here: are there any moments in volume 6 and 7 in particular that you'd warn someone for?

My 13 year old sister is reading the series – which. she probably shouldn't. But I'm not her mom and I remember what it was like being 13 so I'm not snitching to our actual mom either – but we did have a talk about the content that would be too much for her to handle and she said that she knows it's an 18+ book and there's rape in it, but that all happens in the first 2 or 3 volumes so she skipped those.

(the way she consumes media is very spoiler-forward. She'll often know most of a story's plot via summaries or internet posts before actually starting it, so she gets the gist of what happened in earlier volumes without having to read them)

Now, she'll be getting volume 6 and 7 as gifts this christmas, and she told me she actually hasn't seen many spoilers for that part of the story yet. So I just want to know if she's correct in her assumtpion that those two won't contain any noncon. I haven't read erha, I'm only familiar with it through fandom osmosis, so I wanted to ask someone who did. I trust her to stop if she needs to, but it'd be useful to give her a heads up for what to look out for and where because she is still a kid.

Ok so… That lake thing was wild. Or so i thought, before Chu Wanning TURNED INTO A FUCKING KID. Like what the hell? He is either adorable or absurdly scary, no in between. I'm loving this so far.

I looked at that illustration in the book when I first got it  and I was more than confused because I couldn’t tell who was who. And for a moment I legit was like Is Chu Wanning a child? But then I was like NAAAAH CAN’T BE. Welp. Here we are :)))))) 

1. TL;DR: Chu Wanning is a horny lonely loser (affectionate)

Chu Wanning and his dreams. I have a hunch it's somehow a glimpse into their previous life. No idea how it would occur but that scene seems like something that might have happened?

It seems rather interesting to me that THIS would be Chu Wanning's fantasy. I couldn’t help but wonder if it isn’t because that’s the only way he would allow himself the pleasure. Because ultimately he doesn’t get to have a choice in that scenario. It takes away the guilt of lusting over his disciple. So maybe that’s where it came from. And, moreover, this is Mo Ran who wants CWN. Wants him so badly he can’t contain himself. I just found it really interesting that of all scenarios, CWN dreams of that one. I don’t know why I kept thinking about it but here we are ig lol

Also, Mo Ran destroyed his golden core in his past life? Did I miss that in vol 1? Because ohh :c. Or it wasn't Mo Ran???  

2. TL;DR: I’m gonna get hurt so so so bad

Mo Ran smiled. “Yep. Cause I’m closest with you, and I know you’d never lie to me.” Shi Mei was still hesitant. “That’s true, but…”

Welp. Based on community’s reactions that’s gonna hurt like motherfucker. I fucking know that line is there for a reason. I fucking know it. The reason is to break my heart. And isn’t it like a second time Shi Mei says something about not lying to Mo Ran? I WONDER WHY. (i might have remembered it wrong tbh but this part is there and is tormenting me)

3. TL;DR: Mo Ran’s emotional intelligence is at most equal to emotional intelligence of a lettuce (one that’s been sitting in the back of your fridge for weeks because you forgot about it); Also, Shi Mei is sweet and kind and i don’t believe any of you anymore. He can’t hurt a soul. 

Mo Ran is very adamant on hating Chu Wanning. He wants to hate him. He needs to hate him. As if he was scared of the feelings that might be left if he does not hate him. That part is specifically in relation to his conversation with Shi Mei and how uncomfortable he’s gotten when Shi Mei started going on and on about how Chu Wanning isn’t really all that bad. 

And then that part with the umbrella happened and I really wish it was from Mo Ran’s perspective, because for the love of god I have no idea what his intentions are. It seemed like a really bad and failed flirting attempt. Like me when I asked this guy that was in a band in school to tune my guitar but it was in fact in tune and it was just embarrassing tbh But it could be just him trying to be nice for whatever reason  and CWN overreacting because he is strong and independent and he doesn't need (no man) anyone. 

I’m really puzzled at Mo Ran tho. And, like, that’s not a bad thing. There is this part of him that hates Chu Wanning with every fiber in his body. But he also admires him deeply as a teacher and maaaybe tiny bit as a person. There is both disdain and interest. Hatred and kindness. His whole (other) life it seems like he had this image of Chu Wanning that was coldblooded and ruthless. And i feel like it’s shattering now that he starts to notice how it wasn’t really the case. But still it’s hard for him to put those two pieces together so he really tries to choose one. It’s really telling when he can’t answer Shi Mei’s question ab if he dislikes Shizun.

ALSO SHI MEI IS SO SWEET AND KIND I DONT BELIEVE ANY OF YOU. HE CANT BE EVIL. He can't be evil... He can't...

4. I’m just wondering why the thing that happened at the lake (i don’t remember how it’s spelled so it’s going to be THE LAKE) was so different to how it went the first time MR was there. Basically the one major change he’s purposefully made was that he stole money from Rong Jiu and didn’t fall for his trap. Could it be somehow connected? Because otherwise the events should be the same unless something was changed. And the only thing i can think of right now that he influenced in major way, is that whole deal with Rong Jiu. The ghost marriage "arc" ended more or less the same, didn't it? I might be mixing shit up but oh well.

Also, I saw a post the other day in which op was talking how Mo Ran’s love for Chu Wanning was clear to them from the very beginning. Op said they don’t understand how others might not get it and since i’m the one that wasn’t that keen on the idea at first, i decided to elaborate a bit on points i made after first 20 chapters or so, this time trying not to be as much of a clown (hopefully).

Well, I’ve seen the title of the book and I know they're gonna end up together one way or another. But its complicated and messy and I would even go as far as to say that’s the point? And, ironically it's also in the title. A dog and a cat. At first glance they are so different it seems almost impossible for them to get along. At first glance Chu Wanning and Mo Ran felt too different to be able to get along as well. There was too much resentment and too much things left unsaid (and unnoticed). After reading only first 20 chapters i was told that 1. Chu Wanning is ruthless and cruel 2. Mo Ran hates him. 3. Mo Ran is horny for him. Only with time as I was reading further, it turned out that they both care for each other in ways they themselves have a hard time explaining. 

I also don’t think sexual attraction equals everlasting love. And like, the fact that Mo Ran doesn’t get hard at the sight of Shi Mei isn’t telling me anything about his feelings. Does he really love him too much to have a single impure thought about him? Or does he not realize he doesn’t like him that way? Does he love him platonically? I don’t know. I’m for sure lacking context in this situation. That’s the point. I want to read it with my mouth open agape as I get to know those characters more and as slowly my first impression changes. Right now, based on what i’ve been presented by the book I adore Mo Ran’s puppy love for Shi Mei. But as i’m on chapter 50, I see it as just that, a puppy love.  

I don’t want to argue who to ship, because that’s not the point im trying to make xD I just think my hesitation to picture CWN and MR together after first 20 chapters was not that weird. I know it will happen and i’m curious to see how long it will take those idiots to realize their feelings for eachother and express them. I know they are meant to be. But they themselves don’t know that yet. And it feels like they try their best to ruin every chance they get lol I’m also curious where those feelings come from. Why Mo Ran became so obsessed with CWN.

There is foreshadowing, there are those little and not so little things scattered across that slowly become more meaningful the more context you add on top of them. But those alone, in my opinion aren’t enough to be convinced with utmost certainty from page one that the main characters are in fact in love. It’s more complicated than that and that’s why I enjoy it a lot and i enjoy when the books makes me believe one thing to then make me realize it wasn't ever that simple. Am I making sense? Idk it's 1AM i want to go to sleep njkinrjgkn

hi! I'm doing great, thank you for asking! I haven't thought of a top 7 before so that's interesting to think about. hm...I guess it would probably be:

1. Haikyū!! (it's so simple but it's so good. I heard Furudate created it to get people into volleyball and I'm confident in saying that he succeeded. there's just something so refreshing about it, but underneath everything, it still manages to communicate a thoughtful message that where you are today is not where you'll be tomorrow, and that the journey brought on by your passion—while it may not get your end—still has meaning in its pursuit.)

2. The Husky and His White Cat Shizun by Meatbun doesn't Eat Meat (xianxia danmei. my god, I went into this novel thinking it was another low-hanging fruit enemies to lovers type bait where the ML is basically abusive and the MC is a weak backboned twink, but no. no the story had me screaming, sobbing, and begging the author to stop because it hurt too much. I was in tears and I was laughing and I was in love and I was praying for them to be happy so, so bad. it's actually insane. NOTHING will beat how Meatbun managed to make me reconcile Chu Wanning's cold exterior with his soft heart, and Mo Ran's past life with his current one. I was actually baffled by how many fucking revelations, foreshadowing, and plot twists (that made sense and didn't come out of left field entirely) this book managed to have. Meatbun expertly weaved humor, tragedy, horror, mystery and romance all into one misleadingly-packaged book and I feel delightfully bamboozled.)

3. Turning by 쿠유 (Korean historical bl novel. Still reading this one, but the deep unspoken trust the MC and ML have for each other is really awe-inspiring, and they're also very competent at what they do. The relationships with their subordinates and allies are also really heartwarming. The plot is sufficiently interesting as well, and not just something cobbled together to make the characters kiss lol—not that that's bad intrinsically, but it can get old after a while.)

4. Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rock Riordan (everyone knows this one. I love it because I grew up reading it, and then reading it to my sister out loud with the voices and everything. I love an MC that just consistently doesn't know what he's doing and yet sees things through to the end, and whose motto is just "fuck it, fuck this, and fuck you". and again Percy and Annabeth have that "bantering duo who trust and balance each other out and are also very, very good at what they do" type relationship that I'm such a sucker for.)

5. Bleach by Tite Kubo (one of the Big 3 manga serialized back then. I'm down bad for the art, he's one of my favourite mangaka in terms of art style, and also it's nostalgic. I grew up watching ichigo fight through impossible odds with just his "fuck you don't touch my people" mentality. are you starting to see a pattern with me and protective, headstrong MCs? the cast of side characters are all pretty memorable, despite its growing size down the line and again, i love their designs. I know people gripe a lot about the plot and continuity errors, but I enjoyed it regardless—except for the accursed ending and Epilogue Dad Haircut..)

6. Montmorency by Eleanor Updale (victorian crime fiction novel. I was sent this as compensation in, like, 5th grade when the Scholastic Fair delivered the wrong order to me. I didn't expect to like it but it was surprisingly a good standalone read. i used to reread it loads but it's been about a decade now so some details are blurry, but i am very fond of it still.)

7. A Quiet Place (horror movie, though for me it's less horror and more of a family-centric movie. I'm awful with horror, I'm such a wuss, but this movie was so good with its character dynamics and the ending was so fitting that I couldn't help but rewatch it and have it engrained in my head. I haven't watch the other movies in this series and tbh I fully believe the first movie is sufficient on its own, not to say the other suck, I just have no urge to watch them. this movie was such a palate cleanser for me in cinema.)

Hey haven't posted about the rats in a while.

I'm dealing with Autumn loosing a lot of weight for visually no reason.

She was my biggest and now she's the smallest. I can probably count her ribs.

I finally decided to move her away from the others yesterday. Just to make sure she gets enough food (the others tend to steal it from her hands...)

But other than that, the other 2 are in great shape and don't fight a lot right now.

Actually if we're being 100% canon accurate then Hank would probably never approve of SU or letting Bobby watch it. He isn't as strict about gender roles as Cotton, but so far I haven't seen him approve of any of the times Bobby's been GNC. Also he was more disgusted with Bill putting on a dress than him drinking pasta sauce straight from the jar

Random Crossover Thoughts

There are ideas I play with and ideas I write. The following is an example of an idea I play with:

Jason Todd, Luo Binghe, and Mo Ran/Taxian Jun and how they would interact. Because they all have similarities... until they don't. (I am not into... I believe the term is batscest. And BIngmei would be creeped out by Taxian. Bingge would take notes). But I think it would be neat to watch Jason's reaction at the moment where he realizes their... different perspectives, and different types of revenges on their mentors.

And then I had to wonder at how he would feel about their interactions with his own mentor/father figure after that. 'Cause if I had a mentor/father figure, I would be distinctly uncomfortable leaving any of these guys alone with him. But how uncomfortable? Which would I be like, I wish they wouldn't, versus which I would immediately drop everything to intercede, if I were in Jason's boots.

I think it breaks down like this:

1.) Luo Binghe from SVSSS, also known as Bingmei. Most comfortable. Basically no threat of harming Bats or anyone really without good reason or purely because they have been a shitty mentor (at times). Would understand the perspective of loving someone with whom you have a complex relationship with underlying tones of guilt, betrayal, and pride. (Familial versus Romantic, but the base is there). Could actually be a sweet scene with either character, until the reveal. Might even be funny in how uncomfortable he would make Bats.

2.) Taxian Jun/Mo Ran would be unsettling, but not like an emergency, get to them immediately. I get the vibe he's a little like the Joker at times, but as long as he's got a reason to keep someone alive he will. I think if he and Jason were working together for whatever reason, he'd leave Bats alone except for being verbally abusive. I get the sense in terms of other abuses, Chu Wanning is the one most in danger at any given time. Same goes for other timeline versions of this character.

3.) Luo Binghe from PIDW also known as Bingge. Instantly get to them as fast as possible. Should probably not be left unsupervised with anyone, but especially not Bats. Bingge should never be left alone with someone who resembles a mentor/father figure, let alone one who has occasionally been shitty. Best case scenario he does the blood thing and bides his time to take revenge. Worst case he doesn't wait, and assumes he can talk his way out of consequences.

It remains an idea I will not write though, as I can think of no plot that could create a solid storyline. That, and I do not have a fully solid understanding of Jason Todd's voice/character that I feel comfortable writing him. But it remains a fun thought exercise to get me through my commute.

On the plus side I’m hoping that when her hormones balance out and stay that way, we can make some progress in our training. She had a season within the first couple of months of her being home and man oh man, that was a struggle for us all. Really backtracked on ignoring other dogs.

It’s also gonna be nice not having to worry about people asking if we’re breeding her. It makes me nervous having an intact dog that people are interested in. We’ve already had people ask if we will breed her, to let them know if she has pups because they’re interested, enquiring about breeding her to their own boy.

Like NOOOO thank you. Unless y’all wanna pay for all her health testing and pay for me to put her through some classes which lead to trials/competitions, and pay for those too? Oh and also pay for your male to do all the same in hopes that they both succeed and pass everything and are compatible? Like sure go ahead my guys. It’s your money not mine. All for a single pup you can keep? Bargain on my end.
