Hello, how are you? I don't know if you've answered this or not (sorry if you have). Can I ask, why you love Hunterx Hunter (what made this series special to you)? Is it love at first read/watch for you? Do you also Yu Yu Hakusho at least half as much as your love for HxH? Who is the better antagonists & protagonists to you, from HxH or YYH?

This is a lot of questions to tackle, so I'll answer some in-depth and quickly touch on others.

It's hard for me to summarize why I love HxH so much, there are a lot of factors! I could go on about it at length easily, but I'll do my best to go over it briefly for this post. I actually didn't fall for it right away--I started it rather lightly and with the expectation that it probably wouldn't fit my tastes, as I'm picky and usually not big on shounen series (with a few exceptions). It wasn't really until late in Chimera Ant Arc that it went from a series I was enjoying but not totally sold on, to a series I love. By the time I finished the 2011 anime, I had cried over it several times and was fully sold. I only became more obsessed from there.

I think the two biggest factors of what make me adore HxH so much boil down to:

How much I love Gon and Killua and their relationship

How brilliant a storyteller Togashi is and how beautifully he writes characters and really just about everything, and how imbued with emotion and insight and philosophy the series is as a result

Both of these aspects are deeply important to me. It defied my expectations of it constantly, and as I've continued to revisit and analyze the series I've only found more and more to love and appreciate about HxH! It really feels like a series that's like a soulmate to me, as silly as that might sound--it just connects for me on so many different levels, and, even after almost 8 years now, I'm still constantly sustained by and enthralled by it.

I do definitely enjoy Yu Yu Hakusho too, although not to the same degree as HxH. You can actually read some of my impressions I wrote up a few years ago (when I first finished it) in this document if you'd like. It's a very charming series with great characters, and I had a wonderful time with it, but because it tends to play the shounen tropes more straight than HxH (HxH subverts and plays with them much more), I found it didn't fit my personal tastes quite as well. I still found a lot to appreciate about it, and it was fascinating watching Togashi's growth as a storyteller and seeing more of his tendencies and interests coming out in the series. I also do think (and this is backed up by things Togashi has said) that the Jump editors had quite a bit more sway over Togashi's decisions with YYH, and that affected his ability to tell the story how he wanted to fully--which lead to him seeking more creative freedom with HxH, and HxH becoming how it is.

Unsurprisingly with my deep and abiding love of HxH, I do connect with the HxH cast more, but I also found the YYH cast memorable, fun, and well-designed! My favorites in YYH are Kurama and, funny enough, Koto. But I like a lot of the characters, they're a good cast. I remember being very touched by the end of the Dark Tournament arc, beautiful stuff.

It's hard for me to envision my favs from both series meeting without putting a lot of thought into it, honestly, hmmm! It's a fun question, but I'm not sure I have a good answer for you right now, sorry!

Killua

A Ravenclaw who is slowly integrating with Gon's Gryffindor traits :P

Killua is logical and always tries to follow reason in dangerous situations... to the point that it goes in his way. Thanks to Gon he is able to slowly outgrow these tendencies.

Alluka and Nanika

Both Hufflepuffs! The sisters are 100% motivated by their desire to love and to be loved. They are also literal blackships refused and weaponized by their family... so they need a welcoming place like Hufflepuff.

Palm

A tie between Slytherin (what she wants she fights for without hesitation) and Gryffindor (Palm is a boss and can face Meruem with determination and not a hinch of fear). Yeah, I would say she is Gryffindor.

Meruem

His family wants him to be a Slytherin and nurtures his ambition to rule the world, but in the end the chess nerd inside of him wins. So, Ravenclaw... he is fascinated by mind games and Komugi's sharpness as a Gungi player is what wins him over. This double-down as a Ravenclaw that suddenly realizes a Hufflepuff can be smarter than him at something.

Kurapika

He is so much a Ravenclaw who tries so much to be a Slytherin... the end result will probably be a Gryffindor other than a tormented soul.

Chuuya

Hardcore Gryffindor even when he reeeeeallly should put his pride and strong feelings aside and use his head.

Dazai

100% Slytherin :P this is why he and Chuuya can't stand each other LOL

Hufflepuff masking herself as a Ravenclaw or a Slytherin... she acts ruthless and cold, but is too much people driven to hide herself completely :''') And like in Alluka and Nanika's case, she is also a black ship society refuses and who is taken in by a place that accepts misfits.

I really love how Meruem pointed out that humans select leaders based on blood relations and connections instead of leadership qualities though its ironic because he was born king of the chimera ants luckily he proved to be a smart and capable leader.Now if only he could beat Komugi at that board game.

Exactly I thought that was a little hypocritical on his part but he believed since the beginning that he was an amazing being who deserved to rule so I don’t think he saw it the same

I think he believed he just happened to be born the king but he has the power and the intellect that makes him deserving of the crown but he still wasn’t smart enough to beat Komugi lol
