When ch 1044 and 1045 were released and all the chaos was unleashed, I remember having a very obvious question

"How come the power of human human no mi: model Nika is connected to rubber?"

How is a gomu gomu fruit's awakening the power to turn imagination into reality?

I mean... This awakening grants the user freedom, not just of spirit but freedom of how to use power too. Luffy's ability to manipulate reality while in gear 5 seems to show that.

So??? Why rubber? Why does the fruit give the user a rubber-like body? What does that have to do with anything?

I was totally not re reading Skypiea when I noticed this.

Of course it's white they're in a cloud sky instead of a water ocean, but it's the fact that they use "pure white". White would've been enough to get the point across, right?

Guess where else have we seen that exact expression!? Oda's drafts of Gear 5!!

And the chapter after that? Guess what?!

We learn island clouds in Skypiea bounce just like rubber.

There's no need for Oda to make them bounce, but they do! Exactly like when Luffy turns the environment around him to rubber due to the awakening.

Let's not forget that Skypiea is where we first hear about the "Sun God" and we see Luffy's sirouette resembling the "Sun God Nika" transformation.

So would it be insane to think whatever Luffy has going on during his gear 5 is clouds?!! More specifically island clouds just like the ones found in sky islands.

Think about it.

Rubber was unknown to the people in Skypiea, and sea clouds/island clouds don't survive in the blue sea under natural conditions. Most likely 99% of the blue sea population has no idea what an island cloud is or what their properties are.

For all intents and purposes rubber was the best description blue sea people could give to the power of the fruit. If the fruit hasn't awaken in 800 years, it means no one has seen that transformation (which clearly is not just a “rubber fruit” awakening) EVER?! since the end of the void history gap. You would have no way of knowing. You would just think it’s rubber.

Now what does clouds have to do with the Sun God?

Well other than "they're in the sky" I'm not sure 😂 but someone that dreams a lot is said "to have their head in the clouds". The same way imagination and thoughts in manga are depicted with a floating cloud above the character's head.

It seems to be a perfect physical and symbolic representation of dreams! That's the theme of skypiea and the true pinnacle of piracy - dreams and freedom. It’s what the whole story is about!

Possible Devil Fruit Ideas

I currently have a list of possible Devil Fruit ideas for Cass from my fic An Oracle's Odyssey. Not all of them are completely fleshed out yet and are still subject to tweaking and me figuring out the details, I'd just like to know your opinions on them. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. (If you see an N/A, it just means I haven't figured that part out yet)

Fruit 1

Kibo Kibo no Mi (Scale Scale Fruit)

Type: Paramecia

Abilities: Grants the user the ability to increase or decrease the scale of something exponentially. This can be physical (size, amount/# of things, ect) or metaphorical (force, strength, speed, ect). Only works on the user and objects, not other people

Awakening: N/A

Pros

Would allow Cass to increase the their physical stats for as long as they have the energy to hold their fruit powers

Giant Cass

Pocket sized Cass

Enables Cass’s hoarding tendencies

Cass can be that one meme where one person pulls out an absurd amount of weapons

I can give Cass a giant war hammer and a giant battle ax which I would have to forgo with any other fruit because they’re too big to carry around

Oto Oto no Mi (Sound Sound Fruit)

Type: Logia

Abilities: The ability to become, generate and manipulate sound waves. Grants user control over all sound they create

Awakening: Grants user control over all sound waves

Pros

Ties thematically with Cass’s connection to sound

Ties back to Apollo/the sun god because sound and music (this does include Nika as well bc drums)

Allows Cass to become intangible

Sonic screeches

Sonic vibrations could be used to replicate Whitebeard’s fruit

Very difficult to block sound based attacks (probably the most outright deadly if used properly)

Could use sound waves to break things apart on a molecular level

Abilities: Grants the user the ability to turn into the goddess Artemis and tap into her abilities and domains

Mood goddess first mate and sun god captain

Ties into nature and the Voice of All Things

Artemis is the twin of Apollo, the greek sun god

Type: Mythical Zoan

Abilities: Grants the user the ability to turn into the goddess Hecate and tap into her abilities and domains

Magic/Witchcraft: The ability to practice Greek witchcraft (spells, potions, herbs, runes)

The Night: Nightvision, possible minor control over darkness

Ghosts/Necromancy: Abilities to see and talk to the spirits of the dead

Crossroads: N/A

Pros

One of the most thematically tied to Cass (Greek Mythology, crossroads and decisions, death)

Hecate is also tied to the moon even if she isn't the mood goddess like Artemis

One of Hecate’s symbols is the torch, tying into their connection with Ace

Strong ties to the underworld and death, with Hecate being one of the few deities who can easily travel between realms

Was a titan who helped the gods when over throwing the titans (relevant but the reason is a spoiler)

Called the three headed goddess represent the maiden, the mother and the crone but also the past, present and future

Shika Shika no Mi Model Qilin (Deer Deer Fruit Model Qilin)

Abilities: Grants the user the ability to turn into a Qilin and use it’s abilities

Half Form: The horns & scales of a Qilin, also hovees & horse like legs and tail

Full Form: Fully transforms into a Qilin (“a deer's body, ox's tail, most frequently cloven hooves, a dragon's head, and scales, sometimes with flames emanating from the body.” description from worldhistory.org)

Awakening: N/A

Pros

Ties most closely into Cass’s Oracle shtick as Qilin’s are associated with prophecy, insight and wisdom like Oracles

I actually have ideas regarding the transformations that would take place

A Qilin’s birth is tied to the birth or death of a sage (Cass dying and being reborn)

Qilins are also known to transport souls

The most distinct transformation of all the Zoan ideas and also the most fun

The chimera esque appearance of a Qilin (important and thematically tied but the reason is a spoiler)

Luffy is based on Sun Wukong who also hails from Chinese mythology like the Qilins

As of right now, any of these fruits are possibilities. Cass never getting a Devil Fruit is also an option. I’d love to hear your opinions. Some other miscellaneous notes, I’m a bit on the fence on the idea of Cass being a Zoan. They’re already an Oracle which is a mythological classification on its own. That’s not to say they can’t be both but it’s something I think about. Also, awakenings. If I were to give them a Devil Fruit, I’d want to have them awaken it before the story finishes so I’d love to hear any ideas you have for it

(since this devil fruit is actually a zoan, i'll see if i can make another post of it talking about the properties of Nika. I classified it as a Paramecia because the df enciclopedia actually puts it as a Paramecia.)

ah well see my current idea is to take a lot of artistic liberty and boil the King in Yellow down to the idea of "play-based truth-altering madness." And then make that concept a devil fruit powerset (currently my ideas are Story Awareness & Social Mask Tampering). and then call that devil fruit the Geki Geki no Mi / Stage Stage Fruit. and then have the Stage Stage fruit actually be a reclassification of the Human-Human Fruit Model: King in Yellow, a la the whole Nika situation. I dont dislike any parts of this individually but I just cant seem to get my ideas to feel properly gelled to meeee...they instead feel slippery and amorphous and irregular somehow....i am working on it....

In this theory, I'll focus on Chopper, the possible Forest God and how he will reach his Dream.

Chopper is a half-reindeer, half-human hybrid. When somebody asked Oda about Chopper's Devil Fruit, he avoided the question and ran away. Is Oda hiding something with Chopper's Devil Fruit Luffy's fruit was renamed, was Chopper's fruit renamed too?

interestingly, Chopper resembles the Forest God Cernunnos, a human Forest God often associated with nature, fertility, and the wilderness. He is depicted with antlers and is considered a deity of the forest and its creatures. Hito Hito No mi, model: Forest God?

The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Forest God would still make Chopper a human but it would explain: - Why Chopper has big antlers - Why the Devil Fruit looks like a Mushroom (Forest) - Why Chopper can talk to other animals - Why Chopper wants to heal species

Chopper's home was also destroyed by Blackbeard. A popular theory says that Blackbeard was looking for Chopper's devil fruit, the Forest God?

The God of Forest may be Chopper, a reindeer with a strong horn that can break even a big tree. Chopper could be a pun on "Tree Chopper".

The Forest God Cernunnos is called the Lord of Wild Things. - Cernunnos is the guardian of nature and animals. - Chopper is a healer and protector of his friends.

Chopper's monster point could be inspired from the Wendigo. The Wendigo is a malevolent spirit or creature associated with winter, famine, and cannibalism.

2. Chopper's Dream To understand why Chopper is the Forest God, we have to understand why Chopper ate the Devil Fruit. - Zoan Fruits have a will of their own. - Chopper's Dream is to become the best doctor. Did the Forest God fruit choose to be eaten by Chopper?

Chopper wants to make himself the miracle cure and become the Doctor who can cure everything! Like the Lord of Wild Things and Forest God, Chopper wants to be the guardian of nature and this may explain why the Devil Fruit was eaten by him.

Chopper's bounty being so low could therefore be due to 2 possible reasons: 1. Gorosei think that Chopper is a normal reindeer and haven't realized he was the Forest God yet 2. Gorosei want to hide the fact that Chopper is the Forest God, like they hid Nika

I really hate the hito hito no mi model: Nika reveal. And I am still not over it so I’m putting the words down on paper to get them out of my head.

But I was really bothered by the loss of the gum gum fruit. Why did his type of fruit have to change? Luffy is a paramecia! He’s always been a paramecia and now suddenly he’s a zoan? But that doesn’t make sense because he doesn’t transform! And I saw people try to explain it or justify it with “well, his gears are his transformations,” but… no they aren’t. Zoans morph they can become something different. Luffy has to pump his arteries to get his blood pressure up for gear two and gears 3 and four involve him blowing air into his body to inflate them. That’s not a zoan transformation! And it was bothering me so much because how could Luffy be a zoan type if he didn’t transform. AGH!!!!

… and then I remembered that Oda answered this question in an SBS forever ago. When he revealed that if a person eats a human human fruit, they wouldn’t transform, but they’d still lose their ability to swim.

GODDAMNIT THE ANSWER WAS RIGHT THERE THE ENTIRE TIME ANS IT PISSES ME OFF THAT THERE IS A LONG ESTABLISHED ANSWER FOR THIS BECAUSE IT MAKES IT LESS OF A RETCON AND MORE LIKE A NATURAL PROGRESSION OF THE STORY, AND GODDAMN YOU, ODA FOR BEING SMARTER THAN ME I DONT LIKE IT!

Ok so hear me out, what if devil fruits effect the user's behavior?

I know it's already a discussion but let me explain my reasoning.

Devil fruits give people diffrent abilities, so what they're doing is probably altering people's dna so they actually are able to do a specific thing without gaining the ability by getting to know how that works.

Second, when the fruit is consumed, the user even if unaware if what the fruit does, unconsciously use it. So, there is a subconscious understanding of what the fruit is.

Now let's talk about Nika's friut. It's Hito Hito no mi model Nika, Nika is called a "sun god" but the name of the fruit is still humna human friut.

So, it kinda implies that there might've been once a person called Nika, that however they gained that ppwer, they gained that power. The dna of nika has been taken from him, it's been put in a friut that if the user consume it, will guve the user the same ability that Nika once had.

But it's his dna.

It probably brings some generational memories.

And I'm not saying that it just alters them. But maybe it's there like an intrusive thought, like something you've got to do, a little voice in your head.

I mean, the subconscious knowledge of how to use the fruit is already there. And all and all, none of these people gained these power themselves at least in this life.

They don't know what the friut wants.

They don't know what the original user wanted.

And that's all I'm saying. Power, if not gained, and just obtained in a snap, means the user doesn't know the way that power is given tp them. They don't know the power. Mera mera np mi users don't know about the nature of fire, they just use it. And much like strings are naturally akin to puppeteering, the things that the power desires might get the best if them.

So in One Piece there are the Mystical Zoan type Devil Fruits that allow people to transform into mythical creatures and beings, taking their aspects.

There are human type Mystical Zoan fruits  allowing people to take on the aspects of humanoid gods, like the Daibutsu and the Nika fruits.

One of Portgas D Ace’s signature attacks was called St. Elmo’s Fire. This indirectly implies that there is Catholicism in the One Piece world, and by extension Cristianity.

So all I’m saying is, its not completely out of the question that the Hito Hito no Mi: Model Jesus is a posibility.

After reading the latest One Piece chapter, I had a thought that I don't think I've seen anyone else talk about.

When we first meet Chopper, he's introduced as a reindeer who ate the Hito-Hito no Mi, so he's basically a reindeer who can turn into a human. And no one thought much of it because it was the first time we were introduced to Zoan type fruits. "Look, Devil Fruits powers also include the ability to transform into animals and take on their characteristics and abilities."

And Chopper was basically just the opposite of Dalton in that story. Instead of a man who can transform into an animal, we have an animal who transformed into a man. Just another example of how weird and wacky Devil Fruit powers could be .

And even though we saw plenty of Zoan type fruits afterwards, they were all individualized under the different models. But humans were one species, right?

As a side note, I vaguely remember an SBS where Oda was asked what would happen if a human ate the Hito-Hito no Mi. It was not long after Chopper joined the crew, I believe. Oda's answer was characteristically ridiculous and casual. Something along the lines of "Eh~ I guess some sort of enlightened human~?"

But then Sengoku was introduced as having Hito-Hito no Mi Model: Buddha. So the Hito-Hito no Mi does have models? But Buddha? Maybe it only applies to mythical type zoans? It was the first time we learned of mythical zoans too, since Marco was introduced in that same arc.

Onimaru/Gyukimaru, the fox in Wano who supposedly ate the Hito-Hito no Mi Model: Onyudo, which Wikipedia says is some sort of monk yokai. It's also a Mythical Zoan.

And now with the most recent of the Model: Nika, I can't help but think...it seems that Hito-Hito no Mi only comes in Mythical Zoan models. So...does that mean Chopper has yet to awaken the true potential of his fruit as well?

Okay, this chapter is so big I'm going to try and structure it a little differently, discuss things in parts �� 😭

1. Chapter Events

Chapter title: Warrior of Liberation

So the chapter starts with Luffy saying: What's happening...? How can I still stand? I just lost... but I feel like I'm having a blast.

And music/drums (Doom Dut Da Da) playing all around him - And we've got Zunesha saying Luffy Is Joy Boy!!

(this panel is amazing by the way, wow!!)

And we cut to the Five Elders discussing Luffy and his devil fruit, the "Gomu Gomu No Mi", as we know it-

No matter the era, the world government has always failed to acquire the gomu gomu no mi, even after 800 years of trying.

The fruit Luffy has carries the name of a "God"... After all the gomu gomu no mi is actually a mythical zoan type - human human model Nika

It is allegedly the most ridiculous power in the world.

We cut briefly to Hiyori and Orochi talking, or more like Orochi begging Hiyori to spare his life-

and Kanjuro comes (on his last breath, as the dying flame) and ends up killing Orochi. I have to be honest with you guys here, I wasn't focused too much on this part because LUFFY NIKA JOY BOY LUFFY NIKA JOY BOY LUFFY NIKA JOY BOY

AND THEN WE GOT LUFFY JUMPING TO GEAR FIFTH, ALSO HIS AWAKENING!!

WE GOT LUFFY LITERALLY SWINGING KAIDO AROUND

We also see Luffy literally pick up the ground, and bounce back Kaido's attack - this could be his awakening!! Playing around with all the space around him!!

IT LOOKS SO GOOD!! AND HE'S JUST HAVING THE TIME OF HIS LIFE HE'S LAUGHING AND HAVING A BLAST I LOVE HIM

And again, Kaido apologizing for CP0 (code of honour? I need his backstory!!)

He just looks great, it was an amazing chapter and i literally can't believe we actually got this confirmed. I've seen before (and even years before) that some people thought luffy's devil fruit might have actually been Nika and I need to find that theorist again because????

Okay well this is going to be long because I have three more points to talk a bit more about, I'll put a divider so it doesn't get too much-

2. Why did the Elders wait until now?

I've seen a lot of people comment on the fact that it doesn't make sense that the elders knew that the fruit they were looking for this entire time was called the gomu gomu no mi, and that they didn't go and catch Luffy immediately, or alert the people at marineford or whatever whatever well first of all - the actual devil fruit, nika, hadn't been used in 800 years - the only ones who knew about the fruit were the elders and they didn't know about Luffy!!

As (@/Huureviews) on twitter pointed out, after the conclusion of Marine Ford the elders said:

There was no way for them to know about Luffy's DF because they've never seen him use it, or even seen him at all, the only ones who see him use it are always surprised by his DF - and he always says "I'm a rubber-man", if you don't know about the rubber properties gained after eating the Nika fruit, you won't connect the dots and the only ones who could where the elders (who didn't know)

(+) which is why even more people are now seemingly convinced Shanks meeting up with them was about the fruit

3. Zoan fruits have free will

A very small point - In the chapter the elders say that all Zoan type devil fruits have a "will of their own" and that's why the Nika fruit always seems to evade them - could this explain how Luffy got a hold of it?

We know that Shanks had the DF, but he was also VERY upset when Luffy ate the fruit, and it doesn't make sense that it was that easy for Luffy to eat the DF (that he could just open the box, wouldn't Shanks have locked it up, or kept it away better?) SO what it, Sun God Nika, the devil fruit, in it's own free will wanted Luffy to have his powers? Too many questions, so little answers.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST

4. The true abilites of Model Nika

NO, the human human fruit - model Nika isn't the strongest power in the world, or the most powerful as some people suggest - it's the most ridiculous. Another word for it would be comical, that's Luffy's fruit. The user's body gains the properties of rubber, and in combat they are only limited by their imagination - to clear things up, this DOES NOT mean that Luffy's powers came solely from the fruit - it came from his own imagination, will and creativity.

Anyone with this fruit might have stretched a little, thrown some punches and called it a day but Luffy's imagination and his desire to grow stronger and stronger made him train even more, which made him unlock all of these different possibilities. His DF is strong, but Luffy controls it (not vice versa).

And that concludes my rant for the day!! What did you guys think? Some people think Shanks might have gone to the village wanting Ace to eat the fruit, knowing that Roger's son was somewhere there - what do you guys think`?

I feel like at the begining of ch 1044, Momonoske is confused by what Zunesha has said by hearing the heartbeat of joy boy. Luffy did not become joy boy literally, as he still remembers everything that had happened prior to gear 5 (awakening) activating. I think what Zunesha is meaning is that joy boy and Luffy through the power of the human human no mi [model: nika] gain some sort of drum heart beat, which Zunesha remembers hearing 800 years ago.

What about Black Beard and his ability to steal devil fruits. It's been awhile but thats what he did right? And did he want luffys df? Either way how dangerous is it going to be? Do you think that's in the works that he manages to steal it or something?

I think Blackbeard does want Luffy's Devil Fruit! This is just a theory at the moment, but if you'll recall, he attacked Drum Island way back in the Alabasta arc. Unless he was gunning for Wapol's DF (lol) he was most likely looking for Chopper's hito hito no mi under the mistaken impression that it was the Nika model or another mythical zoan model and not the normal human fruit.

That being said, I can't imagine him succeeding in stealing it from Luffy. Between Big Mom's implied cannibalization of Mother Carmel and Blackbeard's suspicious need to cloak Whitebeard's body before emerging with the gura gura no mi's power, the story's kind of suggesting to me that someone needs to eat part of the dead user within a certain timeframe–I believe Blackbeard cloaking Whitebeard's body was so nobody can learn how it's done and imitate him. This would also explains how Shiryu got Absalom's fruit. If this theory holds, Luffy would have to die and then be immediately eaten in some way by Blackbeard. I just don't think Luffy's going to die in that permanent of a way. It'll definitely be close though. Given one of yami yami no mi's powers is canceling the powers of other devil fruits, I'm super hyped about how their one-on-one fight's going to play out.
