For @fishsticksloser 's 2.5k dtiys! Congrats! I decided last minute to participate. Figured I could at least write something small, since my drawing brain has too much chaos it wants to work on and my arm is still limited on how much it can do in a day. So! Quick little under 500 word thing. Hopefully its too your liking!

Rain pounded. It hammered against the ground, slammed into windows, cascaded the streets, splashed innocent passerbys, and echoed in the underground station Donnie called home.

His room was warm. His head rested against something soft. It moved with the ebb and flow of something breathing.

Donnie blinked awake and found himself looking at the most beautiful face he’d ever seen.

“Good morning, darling,” a soft voice comes to him. So sweet, so loving, so… perfect. So his.

“Morning,” Donnie rasped, his voice husky from sleep. He stretched his arms out, flexing his fingers with a yawn. He relaxes, melting back into the arms of his lover with a sense of peace.  He nuzzled his nose against their neck. “You make every morning brighter, m’love,” he said, running his knuckles over his lover’s soft cheeks. 

Perfection started to move, trying to get out from under him. He whined, clinging tight to their body. They settled back down. Thin fingers began massaging his temples, easing the tension built up from too long spent thinking, working, building, brainstorming, and overall staying up too long. He let out a content sigh.

“So, I take it I’m stuck here?” His Love teased. He started to chur from the delightful massage.

“Stuck?” Donnie mumbled. “No, no, my dear – you’re exactly where you need to be,” he opened one eye, smirking mischievously, “with the most brilliant, extraordinary turtle in all New York.”

The light of his life hummed. “Yet here I was going to provide a tasty breakfast for my little genius.” Gentle fingers caressed his cheeks. “But it seems I have been reduced to a glorified pillow.”

Donnie widened his eyes in mock offense. He made his face pout, feigning indignation. “‘Glorified pillow?’” He repeated, filling his voice with his usual exaggeration. “The audacity!” He chuckled, his facade breaking near immediately. He just couldn’t be serious with his lover. Not like this!

“You provide so much more than just a comfy pillow,” he admitted, softening with sincerity. “You are my rock, my support, my light in the dark, and my source of endless love and comfort. There is nothing more I could ask of you, my love. And,” he paused for dramatic effect, “while I appreciate your offer to provide for me, all I require right now is your presence. Having you here is enough.” He leaned forward and planted a gentle kiss on his lover’s lips. His heart overflowed with something soft and gushy, yet rooted in strength and love.

His Light tilted their head up and kissed the tip of his snout. “I love you,” their feather-soft voice tells him.

“I love you too, my dear.”

His lover’s hand moves, gentle fingers running under his chin, nails scratching the soft middle between his mandible. He churred, melting into the warm touch, and closed his eyes in happy bliss. Oh, how he loved chin scritches.

“You always know how to make me feel good.”
