I hate how the fandom uses the epilogues and homestuck2 to harass others about headcanons but then conveniently start bringing up the dubious canonicity when they don't like the post canon material

You don't get to bring up post canon as the word of law for the parts you like then turn around and look away when you don't like it you either shut up and let others do whatever they want or you go away to your little post canon corner where you eat up everything they give you

The loudest parts of the new fandom follow behind a cluster of extremely loud, high-profile fandom bigwigs. All of whom are narcissistic enough to go digging for a post like this and assume it's about them specifically.

If you say one part is canon, it's all canon. If you say one part is not canon, then none of it is canon. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Confession:

Nothing against Boris or James or Astaroth or any other non planned LI fans, but it is annoying how the fandom can't just let an author just tell the story they want to tell with the LIs they conceptualized. We have normalized to go into an author's socials and harrass them until they cave and make the random side character ( most likely an antagonist and never a woman) a LI. And when the story gets bloated or the LIs don't get equal screentime, or the new li's route is not the fanfic people imagined it would be, then we start complaining about how an author shouldn't have caved to the pressure of annoying people bothering them everyday with messages to make their fave a LI.

I am not saying that that authors shouldn't listen to their audience, a story being well received is important for the app, and there is actual valid criticism and feedback that can be made towards every single book and author in RC. But not every white man side character needs to be made a li just because someone can't find other things to like in a book, not every story is going to cater to your specific preferences and it's fine to not read things that don't interest you.

kinda sad how davekat was like. it truly was a big deal at the time when it was confirmed by hussie. some of yall who came into homestuck after it was already over dont understand how great it felt actually to finally have a relatively healthy and affectionate m/m relationship shown in HS when all the others were typically dysfunctional, abusive, or one-sided. it was exciting!!! we were all jst kinda happy for dave and karkat yknow. even if it resulted in some pointless "which quadrant are they in?" discourse and some shipping wars but thats just par for the course in hs fandom

and then the epilogues and homestuck 2 dropped and like. ooooohhhhh my godddddd. its completely swamped in stupid melodrama and for some reason they completely ruined jades character for the sake of davekat angst and they ignored daves development in the comic for half-baked sexuality crisis plotline andlike. it feels like everyone turned on davekat and now its cringe or smth and its like. Wow . we had like . three years to feel good abt this and now its gone forever. Awesome

that john gender discourse ask make me remember when a friend wanted me to draw a trans guy john drawing for them because it was a headcanon and i got death threats for it because “june is canonically a trans woman”, mind you i knew nothing about homestuck at the time so i was confused and looked up to see if it was true before i could tell the requester about why they made me date a canon trans girl as a trans guy and it wasn’t true at all, the internet just told me from the research that i did was that june was a popular headcanon, so i feel the need to say to the people who think june is canon just because it’s popular is that popular headcanon in a fandom doesn’t = canon or means that it is canon

Seems like those people didn't even try to give a source that June Egbert was supposedly going to be canon because of a Toblerone wish SIX years ago and James Roach claiming it was planned all along in an AMA Dec 2023 (despite that other Toblerone wishes were granted that were near the same year that June wish was first requested). As well as the fact because it will happen in Beyond Canon, which is part of DUBIOUS CANON, it's not really like official canon canon like the base webcomic. Not only that, Andrew Hussie, who was the lead director of the HS2/Beyond Canon project, left the team and it was revealed the sequel was a money laundering scheme. Hussie was in debt to Viz Media so he hired freelance writers and artists and lied to them that they were making something new. People can also say because he's not running the sequel anymore, it can't really be considered as canon or official, even if it was passed down from him to someone else. The man should have stayed with what he started and see it through to the very end. People cling onto this thinking it is canon, when it isn't, even with the tease of a silhouette. It ain't official or real unless it's fully shown in the medium that it claims it will happen. Even then, because of the questionable history and background from Hussie himself and the placement of June's arrival, it's both kind of shitty to make it happen on something that was ran by a shitty person and are only doing it recently for the sake of pandering. It's not like a genuine love to have a trans representation or surprise that the transition was planned all along.

I understand people hating Malbonte because of all he did (like killing your favorite characters and starting a war) But expecting someone who was chased by old men who were trying to study him as if he was some kind of lab rat, who got to witness his parents immortality being stripped away and be separated from them, who had his angel and demon side be separated and even though Shepha saw the good in him, he still imprisoned his angel side, who had his demon side be tortured for hundreds and hundreds of years from the time he was still a toddler to when he was a full grown adult and the only thing that was keeping him alive in that dungeon was his thirst for revenge.

And y'all expect that person to just go to ✨️therapy✨️ and forgive and forget all the shit he went through? That's ridiculous. It's like expecting an oppressed group to forgive and forget all the sh*t their oppressors put them through and be the bigger person for the sake of peace…. oh wait that has already happened. But that's a topic for another day in a different group.

Wait a letter??

It is absolutely UNHINGED.

It's this video from about 0:51-1:10:

He's answering fan mail, and he reads the letter aloud like this: "Which songs from the album... (unnaturally long pause)... are you gonna open your upcoming tour with? From Jett."

You can presume the reason for the pause was that he was making up a different question than what was written because, following this, he does two things: 1. He gets visibly passive aggressive in facial expression and in action, as he immediately plunges the letter into the paper shredder. This behavior would make absolutely no sense if it was an innocent question about which songs he was going to open his tour with. Last but not least, the real kicker, which is 2. He responds to the fan letter with a complete non-sequitur: "Thought about it!"

Now we're left wondering what the letter really said. There is no way to know, but one thing we do know is that the lettering is in a gradient blue and green...

...and we know that it was sent by a fan. Wouldn't it be reasonable to conclude that this fan was a larrie and that the question in the letter was Larry-related? We know larries use blue and green intentionally in the fandom. A non-larrie simply would not do this. Example (not that anyone should need one):

(And I don't know if Harry was truly reacting to that sign or not, but that's obviously not the point I'm trying to make, so ignore that).

I'll just leave you with this comment I found under the fan-mail video (nobody can prove what they're saying is true or know for absolutely sure what that letter said except for Harry, but it's worth reading in case anyone wants to try to dig further into this):

Make of all this what you will. I just genuinely find this to be one of the best proofs we have; though we have a lot of them. I never see anyone talk about this, and I think it should be mentioned more often!
