This is such a gorgeous on for Parvati and Lavender. Tee's way of writing is flows so effortlessly here, telling us a story about friends who have gone through some terrible things and find their way back to each other again. It's realistic, angsty, and curious. Also, there's a tea shop!

Day 2- A Comfort Fic

I Await a Protector by megyal (Drarry, M, 5.7k)

A snarky Patronus and its even more snarky master insist on disturbing Harry's peace of mind.

I love this one so much, and it's been a long-time fav. I love the way Patronuses are used in this fic since it really makes the pull between Harry and Draco super solid. The way this story was written really cool...almost like taking pieces of a puzzle and putting everything together. If you love snarky Draco and Harry jumping into his usual Gryffindor mode to save the day, check this one out.!

Day 9- A Rare Pair Fic under 2k

Perceptual Prompts is back for the summer, with the challenge running from August 1 - 31, 2023 this year (a little over 1 week from now!). As a refresher, this challenge is themed around perception and the 5 senses (ie. touch, sight, sound, smell, and taste) and encourages creators to use various prompts to make fic, art and more. A few updates have been made to the Guidelines and FAQ pages, so please take a look for 2023 general challenge info, as well as details for the timeline, creating/submitting works, and more. Some minor changes for this year are as follows:

I watched Assad's Hotel Portofino and East is East supercuts last night I can confirm Assad is ALWAYS putting his hand on people's neck/cheek during scenes.

He does it with romantic relationships (Louis on IWTV, Gianlucca on HP), platonic relationships (that blonde friend on HP, I think his name was Billy? though he was a bit gay imo), familial relationships (Abdul's brother Sajed? Sajid? on EIE, idk sites were giving me different spelling sorry), however the hell you classify those Armandiel and Lesmand clips too, he does it there as well.

And, btw, my good man knows how to build chemistry with EVERYONE! Actually, scratch that, I believe that shit just happens spontaneously really. Like the facial expressions, little touches etc, it's easy to ship him with whoever... He has a way of naturally making the scenes even deeper than they're supposed to be. Point of the post is that this guy will be ABSOLUTELY INSUFFERABLE on future seasons if they give him just the smallest amount of freedom to play lol, I'll expect every scene to have a ???? what the fuck is going on here ???? vibe and to multiship Armand like crazy. I am brand new to HP m/m fic this past year.

At the beginning of January 2024, I was reading a Snamione longfic and outlining my own Hermione-centric time travel series. (You can find the setup fic to that here.) But when I decided to write background Drarry in that series, I figured I had better do some Research to make sure I did them justice. I asked a few friends for recs, and 25 million words later...

At least half of that is Drarry. I fell in love with them, with the push-pull of their rivalry and the soft slow healing that comes after it. I started with the 8th year <10k tag, but it was the Mirror of Ecidyrue series that really rearranged my brain.

I started getting active in a rare pair/multiship server I'd joined for fic recs, the Magical Menagerie, and slowly my new Drarry friends started to tempt me towards Tomarrymort too. (Follow the link to join us there! It's a wonderful, chill place to talk all things HP with very lovely people. I'll write a 500 word drabble for our 500th member!)

I read my first Tomarrymort fics in March: Devil's Snare and Game On, Your Move. (I'd asked to have fun, not get destroyed.) But what really sent me gleefully diving down the rabbit hole was the Drarry fic Harry Potter and the Welcome to the World of Grey. (I hear this is not an uncommon gateway drug!) I kept feeling like, "I want this but with kissing." After that I found equals in life (partners in death), which sealed the deal.

I read as many time travel do-overs as I could find or stomach, always my favorite trope in any fandom. In the back of my brain, I started poking at variations on my own idea for one.

It was reading Hauntingly this summer that compelled me to actually start writing. I pounded out a draft of When the Weight is Gone in a fever of restless grief. I needed to sit with my Harry's loss. And then I needed to fix it.

Thousands of you have come along with me on that journey. In Do It Over, I celebrate and synthesize all my favorite do over tropes, while hopefully doing my own new thing, too.

The time travel setup conveniently allows me to jump in anywhere I want to go. When Do It Over and The Stubborn Hunger wrap, I have plans for a 2nd year AU featuring Diary!Tom, a graveyard AU, a DH war bride AU, and more.

I've also participated in fandom events: the Broken Tomarrymort Telephone game and two holiday gift exchanges, which let me experiment with Harrymort crack and a rare pair ship. I've even played around with drabbles, a longer drabble, and a poem.

This year, I've written nearly 87k words, most of them Harrymort. As of posting, I was one hit shy of 49k for the year. It blows me away that my personal processing and self-indulgent playtime has resonated with so many people. I can't wait to see what we get up to in 2025!

The Discreet Gentleman's Connection by pluto (gayrights420) [Drarry, E, 80.4k] 🌼🔥 I had the absolute pleasure of beta-ing for this fic, so when I say it is amazing, it truly is just that. Fast burn on the smut via Floo sex, slow burn on the in-person falling in love. Satisfying in all the best possible ways.

2. A fic that made me laugh

AITA for being "obsessed" with my childhood nemesis? by @rainstormradish [Drarry, M, 4.3k] 🌼📲 Draco on a reddit forum is hilarious just on its own, but the banter and formatting really bring this fic to life. Amazingly creative, had me in stitches!

3. A comfort fic

The Eighth Tale by @letteredlettered [Drarry, E, 12.0k] 💔⏳ An oldie but a goodie. I constantly find myself coming back to this fic and having my mind blown every single time. Time travel timey-wimey angst.

Sea of White by @dividawrites [Harrymort, E, 8.6k] 🔥🤍 Deliciously hot, creepy, and strangely sweet. Love their dynamic here, the unrestrained lust. Harrymort "die" and lose their memories, so, of course, then they bang.

8. A fic that made me cry

Far Apart, Far Away by @unmistakablyoatmeal [Hinny, minor Drarry, T, 1.6k] 💔💍 Infidelity angst has never been this good. I love the layers of emotion in this fic. Quick punchy sections that really pulled me in.

Pleasant Hope by @ac1d6urn, @sinick [Snarry, E, 41.6k] 💔⛪️ Pastor Severus!! The angst, pining, and self-discovery in this fic is superb! I love the interwoven magic and detailed world-building of this little town.

11. A pre-canon fic

Careless by @tax-onomic [Luther, E, 1.5k] 🔥🪞 Lucius/Arthur my beloved rare pair!! I am captain of the Luther ship, and Tax's fic hits all the right spots. The pining, the sniping, the prickly personalities with emotional vulnerability underneath! And all in the middle of a hot smut scene. Perfect.

Scottish by thepadfoots [Chedric, G, 749] 💔🌟 Lovely Cho character study focused around her Asian identity and the boy she loved.

13. A fic rated G

Lion-Hearted Girl by MinnieQuill (odainath) [Minmione, G, 4.5k] 💔🦁 I know the large age gap might scare some, but their relationship feels very organic in this fic. The setting is grim, but there is always hope in the darkness!

You're So Vane by @patriceavril [Romelina, T, 6.8k] 🌼💄Romilda is so delightfully characterized, I was smiling through the entire fic. Angelina is the perfect foil (and love interest) to Romilda's attentions.

Snakeskin by @cntrl15 [Bellastoria, E, 3.7k] 🔥👠 Talk about a rare pair! Astoria/Bellatrix only has 2 tagged fics on AO3: this fic and the drabble I wrote based on it. But read this fic, and you'll see why I felt the need to write more in this universe.

but somebody's gotta do it by nocturn [Pangulus, T, 920] 😄🧟‍♂️ This fic will make you say WTF but also huh, okay that totally works. The concept is WILD but Lyra executes it wonderfully. Pansy drags Regulus out of the inferni lake and they flirt a little while he gets de-corpsified lol.

In his embrace by @loneamaryllis [fem!Snarrymort, fem!Snarry, E, 48k] ⚡️👀 Dark and dirty but so so good. A Voldemort Wins AU where fem!Harry is taken as prisoner. Snape's mindset as he tries to save her (and is forced to rape her) is so twisted and mesmerizing. Mind the tags!

20. A thought-provoking fic

Icarus by @thistlecatfics [Millvansy, M, 20.0k] 💔🍾 War trauma, addiction, codependency! This fic is messy with emotions but has a strong, beating heart underneath. I am in love with Parvati as she deals with Pansy's addiction and Millicent's denial — three beautiful, imperfect girls.

21. A holiday fic

A Time, Dark and Divine by @moonflower-rose [Dronarry, E, 17.0k] 🔥⛱ HOLY FREAKING FUCK!! The sexual tension in this fic is off the freaking charts. Drarry seducing Ron while on vacation in Portugal. Sign me the fuck up!

How many wips do you have currently?

At least 20, between works begun and posted on AO3 and works with their own file/outline. There's also the doc of "idea nuggets" that is 11 pages long.

Which one are you finding the hardest to finish?

There are two. The first is "The Perils of Innocence", my giant HP story. It's a problem because I lost a lot of genuine motivation when I dropped the series after the trash fire of the sixth book (spite can be powerful, but it only gets you so far). That was the point where I dropped the idea of making it a four-part series covering all seven years and decided I'd wrap up the story in first year. And then JKR started showing what a shit person she is, and that's ground what motivation I did have into specks. I do intend to finish it, but it's been VERY slow going, especially when newer and shinier fandoms took over. The second is "Skydancer", the sequel to my first Voltron longfic "Scattered". Part of the problem with it was me realizing I was repeating the same basic plot I had for "The Quintissential Bond" (another stalled WIP) and taking a lot of time to make sure that they were different enough that someone reading both would enjoy them. But the main sticking point here is that when I wrote most of "Scattered" and planned for "Skydancer", I was still lightly multishipping a few ships and sprinkling them into what was a gen story. Then I became a devoted Sheith shipper. So now, it's hard to go back into that universe, where I created a past with Shiro's family fostering Keith to explain their closeness in S1-2, and try to write them being very close and protective of each other without tripping over the line into the romance I see in them.

What does it usually look like when inspiration strikes for you?

A phrase that is either a title or a suggestion for a scene. A what-if that diverges from canon. Something I see in another fic that doesn't get explored and I want to explore it. A meet-cute I witness in real life. A discussion with other fans. It can be anything. And I concentrate on it, mentally outlining or adding detail until I'm where I can jot down notes. The best ones are the ones that have my guts twisting and quivering with excitement as I think and write.

Do you curate playlists for each fic or is your process different?

Music isn't really part of my process at all. I can write in silence, ask Pandora to play one of my stations, or whatever. Do you go balls to the wall and write as you go or are you more organized?

I am haphazardly organized. When I have the ideas developed, I outline and sometimes have scenes summarized as paragraphs, ready to be extended into the final product. But I can also find rabbits to chase down holes and write in spurts of inspiration, suddenly finding a chapter or story where I hadn't planned on one.

Day 27: A Muggle AU Fic

The customer standing in front of him is quite possibly the most beautiful man Remus has ever seen. Like, he looks like a model or something. He has long, black hair, flattened by water, and just the slightest amount of scruff on his face, and… And a baby strapped to his chest. Okay.

This fic is cute AF! 😍 Doing a reread of this again made me squee about how Remus is such a precious cinnamon roll who needs more hugs, Harry is adorable, and Sirius' flirting is hilarious. So much flangst, this is a bookshop fic, and 1000% a pick-me-up if you need something to brighten your day. A+++ aka go read this ASAP!

Day 28: An Under-Rated Fic

Chimera by Literallyliterary (Flintbell, E, 11.5k)

Years after Hogwarts, years after the war, Katie Bell finds herself traded from the Harpies to the Tornados and into the hands of team captain Marcus Flint. It’s a lot easier to ignore a childhood crush when you have to take orders from him, right? …Right??

I always love a good Quidditch fic, and this one seriously delivers, especially with all the UST built up from Hogwarts days. The way Marcus and Katie push each other's buttons but are clearly attracted to each other is amazing, and there are just so many Feelings waiting to spill out, especially after they get physical. It's spicy, it's got that fiery Gryffindor-Slytherin relationship dynamic we all love, the mutual pining is for real, and the competitive streak is so alive. For the game, for a chance, and yeah, this was what really solidified my love for this rare pair when I first discovered them. Def give this a shot if you'd like to dip into new ships!

Day 29: A Post-Canon Fic

Winter, 1999. Harry thought going to New York would help him get his head on straight, but all he has to show for it are sore feet and a fridge full of takeaway containers. And now he’s homesick on top of everything else. It doesn’t help that his mysterious neighbour in 2C keeps cooking dishes that remind Harry of home and all the people he lost or left behind.

I adore fics that include anything senses or food related. And gosh, this one with the angst and food as a love language is gorgeous. The small details really makes this a story I can visually see. Also, Draco cooks! 'Nuff said. And the way Harry and Draco gradually fall in love is so heartwarming. It's on their own terms, in a different country. Love, love, love. Definitely a must-read for a sleepy or rainy day.

Day 31: A Fav Amongst Favs

Drowned Boy by bmouse (Marcus/Percy/Oliver, M, 4k)

Oliver wants to drown himself. Percy wants to study, but he's willing to be distracted. Marcus probably wants trouble, but it's hard to tell.

Sooo, PoA is my 2nd fav HP book, and any references to that Quidditch game where Oliver tries drowning himself in the shower or missing moments right after are gold. Marcus and Oliver banter at each other as usual, but then Percy gets tangled in their chaos, and it kind of escalates. They're all boys with hormones, and yeah. 😜 This fic is so well written where you can see the attraction between each of them, and the dynamics work. *chef's kiss* (And since I genuinely like to delve into character studies for Marcus, Percy and Oliver, this was the fic convinced me that they're an awesome triad. Hell yeah.)
