Chapter Three: The Autumn Festival
Y/N had been working at The Big Guy for a couple of weeks, swamped with handling the clientele. In the mornings, you’d open up and be inundated with phone calls and appointments. Doris made sure you ate—she’d sit on you to make sure and nearly made that threat a reality once—and traded gossip with you. You actually looked forward to her visits; she was the calm that anchored your life. She was practical, hilarious, and willing to call you out when you put yourself down. She was great for your self-confidence.
Despite her warning the first time she brought you lasagna for lunch, Beau did not come to talk to you about the files. If anything, he seemed busy every time you saw him—he’d be on the cellphone, interviewing victims or witnesses, or doing a ton of paperwork. You felt your heart clench, confused.
You weren’t ready for a relationship, you’d told yourself a dozen times. Then you’d remember the way it felt when Beau held you and allowed you to cry into his chest and your heart ached. Men were definitely confusing, you decided.
One morning, as you arrived early to open the office, Doris caught you with a large poster in hand. “Mind if I post this on your door, sweetie?”
“What is it?” you asked, intrigued.
Doris showed you. It was a lovely orange-brown color with bright yellow words announcing Big Sky’s Autumn Festival. There was a list of events that would happen—a dance, potluck style buffet, a pumpkin carving contest, Big Sky’s largest pumpkin competition, and an apple bobbing contest. You boggled, amazed. Billings never had anything like that.
“Oh this is charming!” You gave Doris a smile. “Yeah, go ahead and put it on the door. I don’t have a problem with it.”
“Excellent! Got any tape, hon? I forgot to grab some.”
You nodded, and snatch the Scotch tape dispenser. Just as you turned back to hand it to Doris, you spot Beau stalking out of the sheriff department, a stormy look on his face. He slammed his truck door and took out of the parking lot with a squeal of wheels.
“What the… is everything all right, Doris?” you asked, handing her the tape dispenser.
She pursed her lips. “What I’m about to tell you, you are sworn to secrecy. Do I make myself clear?”
Your brows lift in surprise. “Of course.” You wondered what it could be that Doris was about to tell you that would require such a promise. Not that you’d go around gossiping.
“It’s Carla. She’s not letting Beau have Emily for Thanksgiving.” Doris’s expression spoke volumes as to her opinion on the matter.
“Oh.” You weren’t sure how to take that. “Is… is there a reason? I mean, don’t they all live here in Big Sky?”
“Yes,” Doris said with a frown. “But Carla wants to take Emily out of state to see family in Texas. Beau can’t take the time off to do it.”
“Oh…” Your heart sank, aching for Beau. “That has to be hard for him.”
“It is. It is.” Doris sighed, finished putting the poster on the door. “Doesn’t help he’s still half-in-love with Carla.”
Your heart clenched. “What?”
Doris must’ve heard something in your tone and gave you an apologetic look. “I know I said he looked smitten with you, hon, but—”
“No, it’s fine,” you said with a wave of your hand, lying through your teeth. In a way, yes, Doris’s comment had bolstered your hopes of maybe something happening, though you weren’t sure you could handle a relationship right now. The thought of competing against an ex-wife and a teenager wasn’t exactly on your Bingo card.
“Uh huh.” You swear, Doris had a built-in lie detector. “Look… it’s complicated. Just like it is for you.”
You swallowed hard, a lump in your throat. “It is…”
“You’ll get there, hon,” Doris said kindly. “I did.”
You blink in surprise. “You found love after Stan died?”
“Oh, wait until I tell you about Adam!” Doris laughed, low and full of affection. “But not right now. Beau’s comin’ back and lord, he looks set to burn.” She sighed and shook her head. “Will you come to the festival?”
You glanced at the poster. Normally you hated gatherings, but you knew it was because of Mark. Mark made everything impossible—if not for bruises, it was his attitude. You were free now, and no more black eyes. “I’ll be there,” you decided bravely.
“Excellent! We’ll see you Saturday!”
Doris left, heading out to the parking lot to meet Beau. His expression was still stormy. You watched him interact with Doris for a few moments, his eyes dark, his expression guarded. You felt your heart ache for him, wondered if it was a fight with Carla.
As though he sensed your gaze on him, Beau looked up. Even shaded, even dark with anger, the green of his eyes were undeniable. For a long moment, the two of you held each other’s eyes. Then, he nodded to you, and turned his attention back to Doris.
Heart pounding, you went back to work, answering the first call of the day.
“Well, it just ain’t fair, Carla—” Beau fumed as his ex-wife once again cut him off. He heard her, then snapped, “You can’t have her for both holidays, dammit! No I won’t watch my blasted language! She’s my daughter too!”
Doris watched him through the window of his office door, and more often than not, heard everything he was yelling into the phone. She shook her head sadly, waited for him to finish.
“I’m her father, Carla! I’d like to actually see her before the damned new year and have a goddamned—no, I won’t watch my tone or my language!” Beau pulled his phone from his ear and scowled when he realized Carla had hung up on him. It took everything he had not to fling the phone across the room.
He raked his fingers through his hair, resisting the urge to yank at his hair or punch the wall. It wasn’t that he was prone to violence; just that Carla had him thoroughly upset and he honestly didn’t know what to do. Technically, yes, Emily was old enough to make the decision to not see him for the holidays, but he didn’t think his daughter would actually avoid him.
God, he missed his daughter. She’d been so busy with school, with her extracurricular activities, with her boyfriend, and even working part-time over at Cassie’s private detective agency. He kept thinking that maybe she was avoiding him because of the kidnapping, that seeing him brought back the trauma, but Emily kept insisting it wasn’t that.
He just… missed her.
And Carla.
He missed his family. He missed what he had. He had something so beautiful and then he lost it because of a goddamned bullet. Beau clutched at his cellphone hard, his head bent, as he struggled with the intense emotions swirling inside him.
He heard the polite knock on his door and looked up to see Doris entering. He let out a sigh and stood up straight, tucking his cellphone into his pocket.
“Carla’s not cooperating, is she?” Doris asked, straight to the point.
“She says it’s Emily,” Beau muttered.
Doris narrowed her eyes at Beau. “Why don’t you believe her?”
“Because I—” Beau bit off the rest of his comment.
“Because you can’t let her go,” Doris concluded and shook her head.
Beau turned away, clenching his jaw. He honestly hated how observant Doris could be at times, and this was one of them. She just saw through the bullshit and called him out, even when he threatened to fire her over it.
“Beau… don’t make me say it again,” Doris scolded fondly.
His shoulders tensed.
She rolled her eyes and proceeded to say it again. “Carla’s moved on. She’d remarried once, widowed, and last I heard, she and her new boyfriend are doing pretty damned well.”
“I know that!” he snapped, turning to face Doris.
“Well, then, act like it!” Doris retorted, not at all afraid of his anger, the threat of losing her job, none of it. “How long you gonna hold onto this dead marriage? Before or after it chokes you?”
“I—” Beau let out a heavy sigh and slapped his hand on the desk.
Doris regarded him with something akin to pity. She used to have a ton of compassion for him, then as time went by, she realized that he was clinging to something that festered like an infected wound. He couldn’t let Carla go, because he still loved her. But clearly, Carla moved on, finding love not once, but twice, since the end of their marriage.
One sided love wasn’t love, but obsession. Doris was going to keep smacking that into Beau until he finally learned that lesson.
“Is Emily leaving town this weekend?”
“What?” Beau looked up, confused by the odd question. “No. She’ll be here.”
“Invite her to the Autumn Festival then,” Doris said. “Spend the weekend with her. Have fun.”
Beau blinked at Doris, as he realized she was right. The festival would be a nice event to spend with Emily.
Doris rolled her eyes. “I swear, Beau, you’re thickheaded at times.” She shook her head. “Call Carla back, apologize for yelling at her, and extend the invitation to Emily. Have fun with your daughter this weekend.”
Beau scowled at Doris, grabbed his cellphone, muttering profanities under his breath.
Doris smirked and left his office.
It was festival day. The weather was brisk with just enough sunlight to keep the temperature on the warm side. You picked a simple light sweater, jeans, and comfortable low boots, your hairstyle simple to keep the wind from throwing your hair in your face, and your makeup basic. You looked, in your mind and opinion, cute.
Arriving at the festival, you found that the downtown of Big Sky had been taken over by all sorts of harvest and autumn theme decorations. As though Halloween and Thanksgiving wasn’t enough, they simply had to insist on additional festivities. You found you didn’t mind, because it was charming and fun, a way to cling to the warm weather before Montana winter kicked in.
You parked at the local public parking and opted to walk the way to downtown. There were crowds of families of all colors, shapes and sizes. One family in particular had you aching, because they were juggling a number of small children and a baby in a stroller. The dream you wished you could have.
Determined not to let Mark and your past bring you down today, you shoved that thought into the back of your mind. Today was a day of fun. You’re gonna have fun, dang it.
“Y/N!”
You looked back and saw Doris heading up to you. She was wearing a cheerful orange sweater that didn’t quite hurt your eyes, with pumpkin-topped hair pins in her bun. You couldn’t help it, her appearance made you smile.
“Hi Doris!”
“I’m so glad you could make it,” Doris said, grabbing a hold of your elbow. “I have so many people to introduce you to! You’ll love them! Maybe make a friend or two!”
“But—”
“Nonsense. Come on.”
You surrendered to the force of nature that was Doris and resigned yourself to being shown off to a number of people in Big Sky. You ended up introducing yourself multiple families, multiple groups of women, and quite a few of the men. Most were friendly, with a couple of seemingly off-putting personalities.
By the end, you felt smiled out and ready to isolate yourself for a bit. Maybe grab a snack or try the apple cider you kept seeing folks with. Doris seemed to sense you needed to recharge and dragged you to the food vendors.
“I expect to see you by the dance floor later, hon,” she said with a smile, waving you off.
You could only stare after her. Definitely a formidable woman. You shook your head with a small smile, and decided to indulge in some apple cider.
“Hey, Y/N.”
You nearly spill your drink as you jerked around and saw Beau with a young woman with dark brown hair and dark eyes. Instantly, you knew she had to be Beau’s daughter, because there was something about the shape of her mouth and eyebrows that made you think of him.
“Hey!” You smile; the smile came so easily.
“Hey. Y/N, this is Emily, my daughter.” Beau gestured to you. Emily stepped forward, offering her hand. You took it easily as he continued the introduction. “Em, this is Y/N. She works for Arthur at The Big Guy.”
“Oh yeah! Arthur’s such a hoot,” Emily said. Her grip was firm. It instantly reminded you of how Beau shook your hand.
“You’ve met him?” you ask, genuinely interested.
Emily nodded brightly. “Oh yeah! I was visiting my dad at the department and Arthur came in ‘cause one of his clients needed a little more help than he initially thought. Before you know it, I’m hearing all sorts of language from dad’s office.”
You laugh, glancing at Beau to confirm. He had this pained look on his face that had you biting back another laugh.
“Not the best introduction,” Beau said simply.
“I learned a lot of new words,” Emily said with a cheery grin.
Beau groaned, covering his face with his hand for a moment. You gave in and laughed some more.
“He’s definitely a colorful character,” you said in agreement. “I never had a boss like him before.”
“I’ll bet!” Emily beamed. “I’m sure you learned a few new words you could teach me.”
“Em!”
You grinned, amused at Beau’s outrage. “Fortunately for your father, no, I didn’t. I’ve been covering the office while Arthur’s been out of state dealing with some family problems.”
“Oh. Darn.”
“Em!”
You bit back a laugh. You liked Emily. “You’re planning to go to college, Emily?”
“I am! I’ve been looking at University of Texas,” she announced. Beau glanced at her in surprise. Clearly that was news to him too.
“Then trust me,” you confided with a playful grin meant for Beau, “you’ll learn a whole lot when you get there.”
“You are not helping,” Beau accused.
“I’m supposed to corrupt young people,” you said with a smile.
Beau threw you an exasperated look that had you laughing. Emily even joined in the laugh, her dark eyes sparkling.
“In all seriousness,” you said with a smile. “What do you plan on studying at U of T?”
“I’ve been interesting in doing videos and recording, so maybe media,” Emily said.
Beau glanced at her. “I thought you gave that up after last year?” he asked. There was something in his tone that pricked your interest. You wondered if it was related to the kidnapping that involved Emily and the serial killer.
“Well… I decided that I wasn’t going to let Buck destroy my joy,” Emily said, her response measured.
“That’s very brave of you, Emily,” you said gently, entirely understanding where the young woman was coming from. You found yourself thinking about the joy Mark had taken from you, and what you had just said to Emily. Maybe it was time to recapture some of the joy he denied you.
Emily straightened under your praise. Evidently it meant a great deal to her that you were impressed. You wondered what Beau told her about you.
“I’m going to get some churros, okay, dad?” Emily asked, before adding to you, “It’s really nice to meet you, Y/N! I’ll see you around.”
You waved ‘bye’ to Emily, and she left you and Beau alone.
“She’s a lovely girl, Beau,” you murmured, glancing up at him. “She’s got your spirit.”
“You never met her mom,” Beau said, wry and amused.
You chuckle. “Is she here? I’d love to meet her.”
“God, Y/N, are you trying to give me a heart attack?”
“Oh, Beau, it can’t possibly be that bad,” you chide gently.
He sighed, rubbed his face. “I’m sorry. It’s been a bad few days.”
“I’m sorry,” you said softly. You truly were. Beau seemed like a sweet man who had a bad hand a few times in his life.
“No, it…” He shook his head. “It’s not your problem, Y/N.”
You stiffen, offended. “I thought we were at least friends, Beau.”
“What?”
“Or… oh.” You took a step back. “It really was just… words. Nevermind.”
It stung. You did care about Beau. You thought he actually cared about you. Your mind flashed back to the hug, the way he comforted you. Maybe you read too much in that moment. God. You felt stupid. The emotions were swirling in turmoil inside you.
Damn Doris for getting your hopes up.
“No, Y/N, that’s not it,” Beau said, stepping forward and gently grabbing your arm. “Hey…” He gently gripped your shoulders, meeting your gaze. “This ain’t easy for me,” he went on, his voice low and soft.
“What isn’t?” you asked, your voice equally low.
“I…” He released her shoulders. His jaw clenched as he struggled with his emotional upheaval. “We are friends,” he said at last, his voice tight.
“Then why does it sound like it kills you to just say that?” you asked, searching his face. “Friendship shouldn’t be hard, Beau.”
“You ain’t being fair,” he said.
“I’m not being fair?” you echoed in disbelief. “You said you cared and then you turned around and acted like I don’t!”
“What? No, that’s not—”
“I need some air,” you said, cutting him off. The miscommunication between the two of you was distressing you to proportions you weren’t able to handle in that moment. When you saw Beau take a step toward you, you held up a hand. “Don’t! I just… I need a moment, Beau. Please.”
You saw his jaw clench and he swallowed hard, as though holding back a response. Then he held his hands up and stepped back. You let out a relieved breath and walked away, your thoughts all tumult. Relationships, god, they were so difficult. She could barely handle a friendship, what made her think she could handle anything more? And Beau—
“Hey Y/N,” Emily greeted, holding a churro in her hand. She paused, then studied your face. “Oh. Dad got stupid, huh?”
You blink, blink again. “H-how…?”
Emily smiled ruefully. “Dad’s in the habit of doing stupid shit.”
“I should scold you for language, but I did say I’d corrupt you,” you joked. Such a bad joke, but Emily grinned.
“But yeah…” Emily sighed. “Dad’s… done stupid stuff. He does foot in mouth all the time. He should, like, get an award or something.”
You smile, bemused. “Any tips on how to get him to remove that foot out of his mouth?”
“You mean, besides, like, yelling at him like my mom does?”
“Yes.” You pause, rub the back of your neck. “I don’t think that works though. Um, no offense, but I’ve seen the look on your father’s face after he’s argued with your mom.”
“Don’t worry, I’ve seen it too,” she said with a roll of her eyes. “My parents are rather infamous for it.” She huffed the breath of an exasperated teenager. “Dad’s just more stubborn than mom.”
“Got any tips?” The words came out before you could stop yourself. “Shit. Oh god, Emily, I—”
Emily was laughing. “I’ve heard worse. Don’t worry.”
“No, it’s not that.” You met Emily’s dark eyes and decided to treat her like an adult. “I shouldn’t be putting you in the middle of any disagreement I’m having with your father.”
“That’s okay. I like you, Y/N. Dad does too. I could tell.”
Your brows felt as though they were going to fly off your forehead. Emily saw and laughed. She shook her head and looped her arm around yours.
“Come on,” Emily said, walking with you through the festival vendors. “Look. Dad’s… stubborn. Mom described it as rock headed and mule stubborn. I always thought that was funny. I kinda get it from him too. Also why we butt heads a lot.”
Bemused, you listened to her as she rambled on.
“Ever since my parents split… dad kinda dug his heels in and wouldn’t move. Drove me crazy. I watched mom date, get a boyfriend, got married. I mean, okay, he also died—” Emily’s voice shook, then she cleared her throat. “But… mom moved on. I know she loves dad. She always will. I’ve seen them together, and I see that they still love each other. It’s just… dad’s still being an idiot.”
You let out a surprised laugh. “Do your parents know you’re this perceptive?”
“No.” Emily laughed, her hair brushing her shoulders as she shook her head. “I don’t think so. I think they look at me and think I’m still 10.”
“God, I remember that feeling.”
Emily grinned. “But you’re not wrong. Mom… she seems to think if she yells at dad enough, he’ll stop being stupid. It doesn’t work.”
You slant a look at her. She was definitely a mature young woman. You suspected Emily did a lot of growing after her kidnapping… or maybe even during her parents’ divorce. “So what would?”
“Turn it on him. Don’t yell, get him to think. Not like how Doris does it,” she added with a laugh. “She gets away with it because dad doesn’t want to lose the lasagna.”
You laugh. “It really is good lasagna. I can see why he’s terrified of losing it.”
“Well, it’s not just that. Dad’s an awful cook. That lasagna is his one homemade meal.”
“Oh my god. Are you serious?”
“Yes.” Emily grinned, and you saw the difference. You hadn’t met Carla, but suspect that was what you saw in the young woman.
“You’re very wise, Emily,” you said at last, as the two of you ended up at the music stage. The band was beginning to tune their instruments, check the settings of the speakers and microphone. There were ropes to divide a section for sitting and listening or for those who wanted to dance.
“Thanks, but I know I’m not,” Emily said with a half-smile. “I got a lot to learn.”
“That’s wisdom you know,” you said kindly. “Knowing we need to learn. That we don’t know everything. It takes a lot of strength to say that openly.”
Emily slanted a look at you, then asked quietly, “Doesn’t that mean you’re also brave?”
You paused, and glanced at Emily. “Because I asked for help?”
“Even if you didn’t mean to at first, yeah,” Emily said earnestly.
“Thank you, Emily,” you said, having a better understanding of how to approach Beau. Not to mention, a growing friendship with this incredible young woman. “Remind me to trade phone numbers with you before you leave. If you ever need someone to talk to.”
Emily brightened. “I’d like that!” The band began a lively tune and she glanced over at them. “Um, you okay if I go watch?”
“Absolutely.”
You smile as Emily went running to join a group of equally same aged young women. Probably schoolmates or friends. You stood there for a long moment, a warm feeling in your heart. You liked this young woman. She was intelligent, kind, with a bit of sass. Even if things between you and Beau soured, you hoped to remain friends with her.
A familiar presence brushed your senses, and you knew Beau had caught up with you. You took a deep breath to steady yourself, and glanced at him. “Hey…”
“Hey darlin’,” he said, his voice quiet. “Listen… I’m sorry.”
“No,” you murmured, turning to look at him. “I am. I was forcing something when you weren’t ready. I’d probably have better luck pushing a mountain.” You smile gently at him. “I mean, you are kind of similar to one.”
He chuckled low in his throat. “Smartass.”
You grinned, then sobered. “I hope you can tell me what’s going on someday. You’ve been so kind to me, and I care about you.”
Beau met and held your gaze, and something flickered in his green eyes. Something that sparked a kindle of hope in your heart. “Thanks, darlin’,” he said softly, brushing back a loose strand of your hair.
The music changed and he glanced up. He shifted his gaze to you and held out a hand. “May I have this dance?”
Your smile bloomed and took his hand. For the remainder of that night, you and Beau danced. He taught you a particular Texas dance that had you laughing and falling out of step more often than not. He spun you around in a lively waltz. When the evening closed with the last song, he held you close, his hands at your waist.
When the festival lights began to dim, vendors closing up and cleaning out their merchandise, you knew it was time. Beau looked at you for the longest time, something soft and sweet in those brilliant green eyes. He touched your cheek, a whisper of a caress, and murmured his good night.
Heart pounding, you found yourself whispering the good night back and parted ways.

I usually try not to bring up politics but this is important. The last time Trump was in office, I was still in New York and struggling through an abusive relationship. I was dealing with illness and trying to see how I could leave and that’s when my formerly childfree ex suddenly started musing about how maybe we could try for a baby. I was scared out of my mind that suddenly his go-to to keep me from leaving was to bring a child into the equation. He was a foot taller than me and unstable and if I didn’t get out, there were a lot of things that could have happened.
Luckily I was able to get away from him and the people who helped him. I was able to go back home and file for a divorce. Some people can’t do that though and now Trump has won the presidency again while women in Texas and other Southern states are literally dying from sepsis and from lack of reproductive care and people are considering suicide because of the threat to their rights.
I’ve never been more scared as an American.

Also huge shout to snap for helping edit this, and being my beta
🌪️🌪️🌪️
It was a sunny day in San Diego, Callie Owens was working her shift at the hard deck, not what you would think an engineering major and metrology major would be doing with her life, but that's what happens when you have a shitty ex-husband he was some big CEO in Dallas for an oil company. Callie had been expected to be the ideal housewife, hosting dinners, and playing the perfect wife. Rodeo was off—limits because he deemed it too dangerous. But after a major fight, during which something was hurled at her, she filed for divorce, packed up what little she owned, driving to her brother's house in Virginia where he was stationed at the time. She was determined to start anew, far from Dallas
🌪️🌪️🌪️
Her phone buzzed on the counter, where music was softly playing through its speaker. The screen displayed a cherished childhood of her, Jake, and Tyler, taken when they were 4 and 2 In the picture, they were riding one of the horses at their family ranch. The picture also hung up in the hallway of the family house, back in Texas, she could hear her phone ringing, but didn’t pay it any mind
“Callie you going to get that?” Amelia asked from where she was doing her homework at the bar “Yeah.” She said sighing, she walked and picked it up, seeing her older brother's face it was him after a ride in high school, he had just won and had the biggest smile on his face “Hey Ty.” She said, answering
“How is my favorite sibling?” He asked her, his voice was upbeat, it made her smile hearing him so happy
“Oh don’t let Jake hear you say that.” She laughed, Tyler laughed on the other end of the line “I have a job offer.” He said, smiling on the other end of the line
“Ty, I have a job already.” She said as she wiped down the counters
“A bartender is not a fitting use for that mind of yours sis.” He said, he was right and she knew it bartending wasn’t a good use of her smart brain, the job hardly seemed fitting for her
“I’m perfectly fine living in here.” She replied, part of her deep down though knew her brother was right “That's not what Jake says.” Tyler sighed
“Tyler I don’t need a rescue, I’m happy.” It was another lie from her
“How long has it been since you have been on a horse, put on a hat, put on those boots?” He questioned her
“I— I don’t know?” She questioned herself
“How long has it been?” He questioned her, he knew she needed a push this was that push
“What the job?” She questioned not wanting to think about the boots collecting dust in the closet of her room at Jake’s
“I need another meteorological engineer.” Tyler said, sounding hopeful his lil sister would join him ”hopefully before the season starts.” She understood her brother's need for her degrees. “Let me think about it please.” She said “Think about it, talk to Jake about, hell talk to Mom and dad.” Tyler said “Yeah.” She said before hanging up and setting her phone down,
Soon pilots started flowing into the bar. Penny took Amila home, she watched as her second family walked in, but her brother's words were nagging ‘How long had it been, it had to have been since after she started dating Mr. CEO’ “You look deep in thought.” Bradley said coming over and getting beers for him and Jake “Tyler called.”She shrugged her shoulders
“Tyler? What’d he want?” Bradley questioned her, she just nodded her head “Bradley the hell you do my sweet Callie?” Jake asked walking up to the bar
“Tyler called her.” He commented, “Oh yeah, what did he want?” Jake leaned against the bar tilting his head, he knew Tyle would never call her during work “Offered me a job, wants another member on his crew.” She mumbled, opening two bottles for Jake and Bradley
Jake hummed and nodded, he and Tyler both knew how much she needed a change “Take it, sis, what could go wrong?” “A lot of things.” Callie rolled her eyes
🌪️🌪️🌪️
The crew was eating dinner at Cathy’s and Tyler had to bring up, bring his sister onto the team for storm season but he had to talk it over with the crew “I’m thinking we bring on another engineer/meteorologist.” Tyler said during dinner “Is my engineering degree not good enough?” Scott asked, laughing “No it is, I just think an extra set of hands would be good.” Tyler said smiling “and ya know, it’s T’s lil sister.” Boone drawled with a nonchalant look and slung an arm over the back of his chair
“Whoa— back up Tyler has a sister?” Kate slammed her sweet tea down with a bewildered look. Boone just nodded with a smug look
“And a twin, wait til you meet him, Jake’s like a— ” Boone yipped and Tyler cut him off with a swat and a annoyed look
“But he gives only child.” Javi said, looking puzzled. “I’m the oldest of the three— five minutes older than Jake. Those five minutes of peace felt like a lifetime” Tyler laughed, letting out a sigh
“How would you know?” Lily asked,
“My parents say it,” Tyler replied, shaking his head and laughing
“Okay back to the sister.” Javi said getting back on track “She needs something to do other than being 26 and working at a bar in San Diego.” Tyler shrugged his shoulders
“Hasn’t she been moving around with Jake?” Dexter asked him
“Yeah, she’s lived in more states than me,” Tyler replied with a laugh
“What the hell does Jake do?” Kate inquired
“Navy fighter pilot,” Tyler said smiling proudly
“Do all Owens have their head in the clouds?” Scott teased,
“Technically mine and Callie’s last names are Seresin, but when we started doing rodeo we changed it to Owens, our mother’s maiden name. It's easier to say.” Tyler explained, “Yeah the only way you knew they were siblings was on paper.” Boone said shrugging “Unless you looked at Tyler and Jake.”
“You are a sibling to man.” Tyler said smiling at his best friend “Both me and Javy lived at your house growing up.” Boone laughed, shaking his head “I think it would be great.” Dani smiled, “I mean we’ve only heard stories about her.” Lily said
“She hasn’t gotten back to me. I might have pushed her too hard.” Tyler mumbled, clearly feeling guilty for bringing up a painful topic with his sister
“Ty, what the hell did you say?” Boone asked his tone sharp, knowing Callie’s story well
“Just asked her how long,” Tyler whispered
“Not cool man, you know that dick took away her sparkle,” Boone said giving Tyler a firm nudge. The crew looked on taken aback
“I agree with Dani— it’s a great idea.” Kate declared nodding in approval
🌪️🌪️🌪️
Callie was still thinking about what Tyler said when she got home from work “How long has it been?” She mumbled to herself, looking in her reflection in the mirror, she didn’t recognize the girl staring back at her, she no longer saw who she was before in the mirror anymore, her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the front door opening
“You want to tell me what all he said?” Jake questioned her, she nodded but didn't make eye contact with her older brother “You know what he said.” she mumbled if the house wasn’t so quiet, he probably wouldn’t have heard her “He wants you to use that brain for something other than bartending?” Jake questioned, Tyler messaged him earlier about this “He asked me how long it’s been— since I wore my boots or put on my hat, Jakey. I don’t even know.” Her voice broke as tears began to fall. She struggled to remember when she was just Callie Seresin, Jake walked over to her and wrapped her in a comforting embrace
“Kid.” Jake said pressing gentle kiss to her forehead. Despite being two years older, the nickname came naturally for him. Their parents were wonderful— don’t get that wrong— but they run a demanding livestock business OwenSeresin Company
“Look at me.” He said softly, as she met his gaze he continued “I think you should consider it— the city isn’t doing you any favors Cal.” He paused “I know Tyler won’t let anything happen to you.”

a/n: AHHH NEW SERIES W EDDIE <33! i'm so excited for this!! also my deepest apologies in advance bc i am so mean to eddie in this LMFAOO hope u guys enjoy <333
“COUNTRY STAR Y/N L/N HAS FILED FOR DIVORCE FROM HER HUSBAND, EDDIE DIAZ AFTER FIVE YEARS OF MARRIAGE.”
the voice of a news reporter flooded through the tv as photos of the former couple were placed on the screen.
“L/N on instagram asked her fans on instagram to be mindful, and that both parties are fragile, and to respect their privacy.”the reporter went on, before a photo flashed of the h/c girl, “L/N is currently gearing up for her fifth album release; SUBJECT TO CHANGE this september.”
the video came to a stop, and she saw her best friend standing in front of her, with a horrified look on his face, “you and eddie are getting a divorce?” her heart hurt. this wasn’t how she wanted him to find out.
“it was bound to happen buck.”y/n’s voice was strained due to all of the crying she had done for the past two months, with a heavy feeling in her chest, “you and i both saw this coming.”
“i didn’t.” evan buckley’s voice dropped, and y/n slipped the shades to the top of her head, revealing her bloodshot eyes, “never once did i see this coming.”
“this wasn’t how we wanted you to find out.”her voice cracked, playing with the strings of her hoodie, “eddie said he was going to call you about it.” buck’s eyes watched as the girl avoided his eyes, refusing to make contact with them, knowing if she did she would probably burst into tears.
“why did you file for divorce?”
(TWO MONTHS BEFORE.)
STARING OUT THE BIG OPEN WINDOWS OF THEIR PENTHOUSE,
y/n could see the sun rising as she finished making breakfast for her and her stepson, making sure to leave some for her husband in case he came home in time.
eddie diaz and y/n l/n had first met when she was 21, and he was 23, one kick-starting on their music career, while one had just become a single parent to a son from a former marriage. somehow, they still made it work. getting married at 23 and 25,  going from texas, to los angeles, becoming a mother figure to his son chris, and making sure she could still go on tour.
they thought they had it all figured out, with everything working and a fixed schedule.
until they didn't.
so here she sat, waiting for her husband to come home while her stepson got ready for school, knowing she’d have to force a smile, make everything seem like it was okay, and be able to play the part of the perfect wife, perfect wife. it wasn’t until she smelt smoke that y/n realized the toast was burnt to absolute crisp, and was ruined, meaning she’d have to make more.
“shit.”she muttered, rushing to make more, as she saw chris come down the hallway, and she forced a smile, brushing her h/c hair out of her face, making sure to tie it back.
“did you burn the toast again?”chris asked with a smile, and y/n forced a laugh, nodding before she brought over a plate with pancakes and eggs on them. “unfortunately, i did. i’m making more right now.”
a knock on the front door came, before it opened, revealing carla, and she had a wide smile spread across her face as she came in, and y/n waved as the toast popped up, less burnt than before. quickly placing it on a plate, and putting it on the table, making it so chris would be able to get to school on time.
“you go get ready for the day, i’ll make sure chris eats.”carla told the 28 year old, giving her a soft smile, and y/n nodded, before rushing off towards her room, and grabbing the clothing she needed for that day.
walking into the bathroom after she had changed, her eyes glanced down, seeing a wedding band that wasn’t hers sitting on the counter.
it was her husband’s.
she felt anger run through her, with a million thoughts racing through her mind. why would he take it off? or why did he leave it at home? did he forget it? did he take it off intentionally before he left for work?
why did he take it off?
“bye n/n!’chris yelled, breaking the girl out of her thoughts, and she gripped the counter, trying to keep her anger under check. “have a good day at school chris!”she yelled back, and the front door slammed, as she took a deep breath in.
it was a few moments before she walked back out towards the kitchen, noticing everything was put away, except for the burnt toast. opening up her refrigerator, y/n grabbed the butter out, and brought it over towards the kitchen table, before spreading the butter against the toast, and taking a bite out of it.
her eyes scanned back over the mountains as the clock struck 7:30 am, realizing her husband was over three hours late coming home, and had missed seeing his son in the morning for the second time that week.
it killed her. it absolutely killed her that he wasn’t coming home, and she was the one who was carrying all of that weight on her shoulders, trying to keep this marriage going when it was all one sided. she felt like a glass plate, and was breaking into a million pieces.
hearing boots come towards her, her head snapped towards it, seeing her husband eddie diaz walking towards her, before placing a kiss on the top of her head, with no words spoken between the two.  the tension in the air made her uncomfortable. it was so thick that you could almost cut it through it with a knife.
it was a while before any words were spoken between the two, and when they were, they were laced with anger and confusion.
“you left your ring at home.”y/n spoke up, taking another bite of the burnt toast, afraid to see the look her husband was giving her, “and you were late coming home again.”
“i forgot it when i left.”eddie admitted, glancing over at his wife for a moment, before looking back at his plate of food, “and i was finishing up something with buck.”
wrong. he wasn’t with buck, because buck had texted y/n back at five, saying he hadn’t seen eddie since he left his shift at 4am.
“what? you don’t believe me?”eddie questioned, as y/n got up to throw the toast away, keeping silent for a moment, debating on how to handle the situation, before she shook her head no.
“i don’t believe you.”y/n admitted, placing the plate in the sink, avoiding eye contact with him, and she could feel the anger radiating off of him, “because buck texted me at five that he hadn’t seen you since you left your shift at four.”
she saw eddie freeze, knowing he had gotten caught into a lie, and y/n had seen right through it. he wouldn’t be able to hide whatever he was away for.
“okay fine, i wasn’t with buck.”eddie admitted, causing y/n to lean up against the kitchen counter, facing her husband to read his body language.
“so, where were you?”
“i don’t understand why you need to know.”eddie shrugged, getting defensive, causing y/n to read all the red flag, “it doesn’t matter to you at all.”
“it does matter to me eddie.”y/n spoke softly, fearing of an argument breaking out, but it was enviable with the two. “i want to make sure you’re not sitting in the goddamn morgue.”
“well guess what, i’m not.”eddie spewed, catching y/n off guard, “i’m standing right in front of you, trying to eat breakfast while you’re bothering me.”
“because i want for you to realize that i’m worried about you.”she told him, and she could tell he was dismissive, “i wait up for you every night, only for you to not come home until chris is about to leave for school.”
“and i never asked you to do that.”he stabbed his eggs with his fork, and y/n tensed up, “that’s your own doing for staying up and waiting.” y/n gave him a look as she took his words like gut punches, making her absolutely sick, “maybe you should just stop staying up and waiting.”
“maybe you should come home on time.”y/n shot back, folding her arms as she watched him closely, “to the family you have. to your son.”
“i do!”eddie defended, and y/n shook her head, “no you don’t! for the past four months you’ve been late coming home after every single shift eddie!”
“you’re forgetting your ring, you’re not coming home on time and you’re distant.”y/n pointed out as eddie brushed past her to put his plate in the sink, and walked towards their shared bathroom, slipping his wedding band on, “there! are you happy now?”
“no i’m not!”y/n exclaimed as eddie started to change, and she followed him, “we’ve been in and out of therapy for the past three years and absolutely nothing has changed eddie. i’m so tired of it.”
“i mentally cannot handle another year of us being just fine.”y/n whispered, causing eddie to snap his head towards her, with a shocked look spread across his face, “what are you trying to say?”
“i want a divorce.”y/n spoke aloud, making all of her feelings real, and she saw eddie’s face fall.
“you want a divorce? all because i’m taking extra shifts to try and provide for our family? to pay for the mortgage for the house you insisted we had to have.”he shot back, and y/n felt her anger bubble over, causing her to snap, “you don’t even pay for the house! i do! it’s under my name and everything! not yours!”
“i’m the one who pays for the cleaners, the groceries, the electric!”she yelled, as the two stood in their bedroom, one that hadn’t felt like theirs in months. “i feel like i’m the only one who’s doing all the work all the time because you’re never home!”
“you loved me way more at 23 than you do now eddie, and that's a fact.”she told him as she brushed past him to pack a bag, “i cannot keep doing this anymore.”
“you’re just like your parents. giving up way too easy on our marriage.” eddie swore, and y/n felt something snap inside of her. “first off, don’t you dare talk about my parents! secondly, i have tried for months to get through to you.”
“you’re the one who never came to nashville when i called you begging to hop on that flight, one i paid for by the way!”y/n exclaimed, zipping up the bag she had packed, “i knew you had the week off and didn’t have chris at all and you still refused to come.”
“i’m done trying eddie.”she finished, before storming past him and walking towards the front door of their penthouse.
“so you’re done?”he questioned as she grabbed her car keys, and opened up the front door, staring right back at him with tears in her e/c eyes.
“this is when it’s over for me.”

These sketches are an absolute mess but I want to talk about AiE!Sam so I'm afraid you aren't getting anything better right now :)
Tumblr media
Now if you remember anything about the previous sketches I've done for a much more snakey Sam then you might be slightly confused but don't worry. That Sam is still intact. In fact much more intact then this one!
This is just the Sam that the character of Sam, warden of Pandora's vault was based on. But for the purposes of least confusion we will refer to the real Sam as Sam and the character as Awesam from now on.
Warning for mentions of murder and very vague descriptions of the state Sam's body was in when it was found.
Sam Isenberg was one of the early developers on Adventures in Esempi before his mysterious murder in early 2011 The killer is completely unknown as of now. But Sam's body was found in his apartment. Rather disfigured as well. But despite the torn up state of the apartment and victim, no traces of evidence for police to follow were left. Sam's life before his tragic end was quite full though. And he was a well accomplished person. Beloved by many despite how XD, his ex-wife and fellow developer on Adventures in Esempi describes him as quote "One of the biggest snakes I've ever met. He was the kind of guy who works with you for years and then turns without any notice or reason." This may have been referring to the fact that shortly before Sam's death he was filing for divorce and attempting to get full custody of his and XD's two children, a case left unresolved after the fact.-A telling of his life was supposed to be written out and published by Sam's son Dream. But Dream also went missing only 2 months after the announcement and the book never came out. XD still seeming to hold animosity for his ex-husband and never picking up the project despite being asked to by the public and allegedly his teenage daughter. But we do have some things about Sam's early life and feel it's important to share what we know. Sam was born in 1972 to two loving parents and lived most of his early childhood in Texas before moving to Florida when he was 14. This is where he would meet XD and live the rest of his life.-From our information he was a kid that got sick pretty often -a trait that passed onto his son-resulting in him tending to wear a face mask for much of his childhood and through his teenage years, though his immune system would improve in his 20s The first murder/missing case that would happen around Sam would happen in 1988 when he was 16, being a very close friend who formed a friendship trio with him and XD. The next missing cases that would pop up around him would be in his college years, a classmate and professor respectively His life would not all be dreary though! In 1994 Sam would announce his engagement with XD and they would get married the following year. And the following year after that, 1996 their first child would be born, Dream. From what we know the time of Dream's childhood and early teen years seems to have been a happy time for the family. Untill their second child, Drista was born in 2010 and well we've mostly covered Sam's short life after that.
And there's my man! He's actually so chill compared to Awesam. Too bad he's dead.
I do love how I am creating ships that absolutely no one will understand. Because I mean really.. Sam/XD is not something even I predicted.
I do love them though, just a guy/an extremely unhinged guy is a very fun dynamic
Plus I just love how much of an unreliable narrator XD is about the situation
Also I like their kids a lot.
I should really talk properly about ai!AiE!Sam/awesam though at some point. Because he's an absolute mess! There's just a plot point he features heavily in that idk if I want to spoil.
But I guess I've already spoiled a lot of stuff by even just talking about real!AiE!Sam soooooo oops
Anyway thas about it :)

honestly season seven just made me feel so bad for shannon diaz. even in death, that woman cannot escape from the boxes that she’s been forced into. obviously i can’t really blame Christopher. he was seven when his mother died. That’s going to have some not so good effects on a kid’s well being. add that to the fact that christopher has had a long history of being left behind, it’s no wonder that he ends up trying to be the one who does the leaving for once this season. he’s a traumatized thirteen year old kid. of course he’s not exactly capable of seeing his mom for who she was. he barely got the chance to know her before she was gone. never mind the fact that she died in a tragic vehicle accident and was forced to leave his life forever because of that. all that he cares about is that he loved her and she’s left him.
to eddie, shannon was the great love of his life. she is the standard that he holds all other romantic relationships to. never mind the fact that they weren’t together for most of their marriage. never mind the fact that shannon clearly stated that she didn’t want to be with him by stating her intentions to file for divorce. that doesn’t matter. because shannon’s own personhood doesn’t matter after she’s gone. shannon diaz is the love of eddie’s life, but she never intended for him to be hers.
to the diaz parents, shannon was a she devil. she up and left christopher behind and left eddie. she drove eddie to move out of El Paso with chris. never mind the fact that she didn’t know they were leaving texas when they did. even when she came back, it wasn’t enough. because she died shortly after, and she left again (this time not of her own volition). even now, six years after her death, they cannot let her rest in peace. she is blamed for the kim situation despite the fact that she’d never met her and has literally been in her grave and buried for six full years by this point. to helena and ramon diaz, she will always be the cause of all of the chaos in christopher’s life. she will always be to blame for everything.
god how tragic for that woman. she even stated before her death that she wanted to take the time to figure out who she was as a person. as just shannon, not Shannon Diaz, Eddie’s Wife and Christopher’s Mother. she never got the chance to figure out who she was. and even in death, the few decisions that she got the chance to make about who she was and what she wanted have been ignored to keep her locked up in exactly the same way that drove her to flee texas in the first place. six years after she was dead and buried, she’s still stuck playing those same roles: as Shannon the Missing Mother, Shannon the Soulmate, and Shannon the She Demon.

Law & Love Chapter 20
Tumblr media
A/N: Well, guys.....looks like this is the end. NOT!! HAHA I know last time I said there was only one more chapter to this but my muse woke up and after talking over some ideas with my beta @kazsrm67, there are about 3-5 more chapters of this now.
THEN:
Beau gently lays it out for her. How Emily was invited back up to Montana to help with Sunny Day Excursions, how he wants to be honest and truthful with her.
"I've come to realize that I'm not happy here anymore, Car. I miss the mountains and the fresh air."
"You're going back for her, aren't you?" Carla says, sitting back in her chair, crossing her arms and glaring at him.
NOW:
"It's not like that," Beau objects as he stares at the woman in front of him. "I told you, Em got that letter and it just made me realize, I miss it up there."
"Beau, babe," Carla stands up and walks around the desk. "Can I be honest with you?"
"Of course."
"I've been selfish-" she begins. "-and weak."
Beau watches his ex-wife in perplexity. ‘What is she talking about?’ he thinks and opens his mouth to voice the words, but Carla holds up her hand, silencing him.
“Listen Beau, when I asked you to come back home-” she sighs before continuing. "-I wasn’t completely honest. After Avery’s death, I was afraid to be alone. I haven’t been alone since….well, ever. We got together in our freshman year of college, married a year after graduation; had Em and then after our divorce I met Avery and in a whirlwind got remarried. And then I found myself being a widow with an ex. So I took the coward’s way out. I asked you to try again.
“I knew you had moved on. I met Y/N, remember. Hell, yall were living together for fuck’s sake! I saw that and it reminded me of us when we first got together."
Beau sits there unmoving, flabbergasted over Carla's admission. He keeps his eyes on her as she begins pacing back and forth, between his spot and her desk.
"I realized that I was about to come back to Texas, alone, as a widow and I was scared. I haven't been a single woman since before college and I was terrified of what that meant."
Beau's heart breaks at her confession. It's true though. From the moment they met in the financial aid line their freshman year of college, he and Carla had been inseparable,  spending every free minute with one another. It was love at first sight for both of them and even back then he thought he'd spend the rest of his life with her.
They'd graduated college and had both entered the workforce with promising careers before taking that next big step of getting married. The first few years were bliss and they felt indestructible.  Even with the unexpected arrival of Emily, they were invincible but by the time Em turned 5, that armor had been chipped and by their daughter's tenth birthday, their relationship was nothing but a shell.
And then Beau received the final blow when he was served with divorce papers; Carla had filed for divorce, claiming irreconcilable differences. The difference was she had become captivated by a friend of a friend of an acquaintance,  Avery McCallister. And less than a year after the divorce papers were signed, Carla was no longer an Arlen.
"So," he finally spoke. "Once again, you duped me? You pretended to still feel something for me to make me do your bidding. Did you ever love me, Carla?"
Standing up, Beau towers over the brunette,  his chest heaving. "I'm just a pawn in your game of life huh? Well, guess what. I'm done. It's over. We're over. Emily and I are headed to Helena soon, and after her stint as camp staff is finished she can come back to you, if she wants. But I will not be returning. This is goodbye, Carla."
With that he turns and walks toward the door. As his hand wears around the knob, Carla defends herself.
"I do love you Beauford! You were my one true love for almost my whole twenties. But I let outside factors cloud my judgment. I am truly sorry, honey. I moved on but I guess I didn't expect you to. I'm sorry. "
"I'm sorry too," Beau replies before turning around and looking at his ex-wife. "I'm sorry for not being enough. I'm sorry that I let you down. But I will not apologize for continuing my life. And if she'll have me back, I plan to continue living my life in Montana with Y/N."
He gives a small smile toward Carla and turns the knob and walks out of her office, passing by the receptionist desk and to the elevator.
On the way to the bottom floor, Beau closes his eyes and pinches his nose. 'God, please don't have let me have fucked it up with Y/N. I'll beg if she wants!' he thinks to himself.
Tumblr media
Beau: Hey Y/N. It's Beau. Looks like I'm going to be coming back to Helena. Could we meet up and talk about some things?
Beau wasn't expecting his phone to ring so when it did, he almost dropped the device in the floor.
"Y/N?"
"It's me," she answers and her voice washes over him like a warm breeze. God, how he missed her!
"How you been, sweetheart?"
Beau closes his eyes and just basks in the cadence of her voice until she says something that causes him to pause. His eyes shoot open. What did she mean by that?!
"Wait, what do you mean taking me back?! Don't you still live there? Please don't tell me you've moved back East," he begs.
She laughs and it brings a smile to his lips and he breathes easier. She explains that she still lives in Helena but isn't there and once again, Beau holds his breath. Had she already met someone and is off visiting her new man? Oh god, please don't let that be it!
"Ohhh," Beau breathes out before asking "where are you?"
As soon as her answer hits his ears, he smiles. She is so close. But why is she in Texas? What brought her to the Lonestar State?

How long will my divorce take in Texas | Law Office of Chris Schmiedeke, PC
The length of time it takes to finalize a divorce in Texas can vary based on several factors, including the complexity of the case, the level of cooperation between the parties involved, and the court's schedule. In general, the process can take anywhere from a few months to over a year.

It's obvious that RFK Jr. picked his running mate, Nicole Shanahan, because he needed somebody who was filthy rich to fund his campaign. Shanahan is the ex-wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin who probably has enough money to buy one of the smaller Hawaiian Islands.
Why Shanahan doesn't mind being an ATM for the worm-brained RFK Jr. is that she shares his idiotic conspiracy theory which falsely links autism to vaccines.
It’s easy to see why the controversial heir to the most prestigious liberal name-brand in American politics chose Shanahan, a relative unknown, to be his nominee for vice president. As an ambitious and athletic millennial who surfs and grows her own food with her boyfriend, a cryptocurrency software developer she met at Burning Man, the 38-year-old attorney brings a woman’s presence, and youthful energy, to a race dominated by octogenarian men, not to mention the 70-year-old Kennedy. And as the former wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin, the seventh richest man in the world, Shanahan brings another factor crucial to the campaign: unfathomably deep pockets. Her backing enables Kennedy to skirt questions about why the notoriously anti-immigration GOP megadonor Timothy Mellon is financing the super PAC supporting Kennedy’s campaign, American Values. Mellon has poured millions into Trump’s Make America Great Again Inc., while donating $53 million in stock to the state of Texas to build the former president’s border wall.
As an aside, shouldn't the RFK Jr.-curious be concerned about the loot he's getting from MAGA megadonor Timothy Mellon? 🤔
Back to Shanahan...
So how did Shanahan end up on a “spoiler” ticket praised by right-wing ideologues like Alex Jones, Steve Bannon, Michael Flynn and Roger Stone, the notorious GOP mischief-maker who called an alliance between Kennedy and Trump his “dream ticket”?
The turning point in her life came in 2020, she says in an Instagram video, when (daughter) Echo was diagnosed with autism. The Daily Beast claims that Shanahan “chafed at Brin’s left-brain thinking” about the best practices for raising a child on the spectrum, and the Google co-founder filed divorce papers shortly thereafter, citing “irreconcilable differences.” She initially contested their prenuptial agreement and sought $1 billion of Brin’s fortune but eventually settled out of court.
"Left-brain thinking" is often a euphemism for being logical and analytical. In other words: rational. Rationality is not a strong point for conspiracy freaks.
But while she claims that world-class experts keep her apprised of cutting-edge autism research, her ideas about her daughter’s condition seem stuck in the 1990s; during that era, actress Jenny McCarthy was hailed as an autism expert, and Andrew Wakefield triggered a global panic about vaccines with the publication of a paper in The Lancet linking autism to vaccines. That paper was later retracted after multiple investigations found it based on fraudulent data and riddled with conflicts of interest.
So Nicole Shanahan is fixated on a debunked and retracted article from three decades ago.
For somebody who is allegedly concerned about her autistic daughter, why is she the running mate for a candidate who calls people with autism "zombies"?
And you wouldn’t know it from listening to Kennedy, who routinely caricatures people on the spectrum as “vaccine-injured” zombies. “They get the shot ... and three months later, their brain is gone,” Kennedy told an audience in 2015. Insisting that previous generations of autistic people simply never existed—when in truth, they were often hidden away in institutions because of a thoroughly discredited theory that autism is caused by bad parenting—the candidate told radio and TV host Michael Smerconish last year: “I have never in my life seen a man my age with full-blown autism, not once. Where are these men? One out of every 22 men who are walking around the mall with helmets on, who are non-toilet-trained, nonverbal, stimming, toe-walking, hand-flapping. I’ve never seen it.”
RFK Jr. is intent on being the 2024 version of Ralph Nader. In 2020 Nader, as the Green Party candidate for president, hoodwinked enough gullible progressives into voting for him so that he helped George W. Bush take Florida – the deciding state in the 2000 election. Bush then gifted the US with two recessions (including the Great one), two wars (one totally unnecessary and one which could have been avoided if he had paid more attention to terrorism), two rightwing appointees to the Supreme Court (one bad, one horrendous), and two rounds of tax breaks for the filthy rich.
One way to undermine RFK J.'s support among some people on the left is to strongly debunk his autism vaccine conspiracy theory.
Annenberg Public Policy Center (APPC) at the University of Pennsylvania published a new survey showing that 12% of Americans feel that a link between the MMR vaccine is either definitely true or probably true.
False Belief in MMR Vaccine-Autism Link Endures as Measles Threat Persists
While anti-vaxxers tend to be Trumpsters, there's a sizeable number of misinformed people on the left who share this view regarding MMR. So debunking the MMR-autism bullshit should be a routine part of your anti-Trump activism.

The length of time it takes to finalize a divorce in Texas can vary based on several factors, including the complexity of the case, the level of cooperation between the parties involved, and the court's schedule. In general, the process can take anywhere from a few months to over a year.

Life has been kind of crazy in the worst possible way this month.
It feels like so much more than 3 weeks since the day I filed for divorce on July 1, which was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.
I meant every word of my vows on that Thursday afternoon in September 2010 when my marriage began. I thought we were going to be each other's person for the rest of our lives, not for that to slip through my fingers because I was careless with his heart, and I can't put into words how deeply I regret it.
I never expected his embrace to hurt the way it does now, and the worst part of it is that he's the only one here to hug. He was the biggest source of my comfort for so many years, and even if he was here to hold me right now, it wouldn't be the same. What we had is completely gone.
It still kill me that I don't remember the last time we had sex, the last time we shared the bed we slept in together every night, and I woke up to him like I did so many times over the years.
He told me that we could have sex again on a friends with benefits basis, but I don't want to. It would destroy me.
Anyway, the power has been back on for a full week now after 8 days without in the godawful Texas summer heat, with only a few brief interruptions, mostly tonight when we had a thunderstorm.
We've spent the last week and a half, starting before the power even came back on, getting quotes from contractors for repairs for the extensive damages. The hurricane damages to the house I live in are in the tens of thousands of dollars.
(The house was downgraded from what was my home before my marriage ended because it feels like I'm surrounded by the devastating loss and ghosts of him and the love and life we shared for so long. It's agonizing just being here a lot of the time.)
We're not sure what the homeowners' insurance is going to cover for the repairs, which is terrifying, and we need to figure out how to work with FEMA if the insurance isn't helpful.
I'm also worried the HOA we're in will start giving us problems if we can't get the repairs done very quickly.
This month has been such shit in so many ways.
I desperately need my weekly counseling sessions, and my counselor cancelled this week. I've had only one of my weekly appointments this month due to cancellations and the hurricane, which is taking its toll on me.
In more positive and hopeful news, I had an appointment last Thursday with my job counselor at the state run employment program I was accepted into.
They'll pay fully for my schooling, textbooks, and supplies to get a degree or certificate from a local community college and offer job placement services after graduation.
I need a job I can do remotely, and I originally intended to pursue a year long certificate program in medical billing and coding. However, all of the local programs required on campus courses and capstones, which I cannot do.
I looked into every single fully online degree or certificate program that the local community colleges offered that aren't any longer than two years (my ex-husband agreed to let me stay here rent free for a few years while I get myself sorted) and settled on an Associate degree program in mobile/web application development.
I applied for the program today.
I wanted something with a decent level of job security, and I don't think phones are going anywhere. There's the possibility of freelance work on the side as well.
Considering and pursuing a career in technology is nothing new to me.
I went to a public university for an information technology program for 2 years after I graduated from high school, followed by a technical school for computer network operations for a year.
I never ended up working in the industry because it was saturated at my time of graduation, and they wanted me to have experience for an entry level position, which I found endlessly ironic.
I was told more than once by potential employers that I should have done an internship before I graduated to gain experience, which would have been fantastic to know while I was still in school and not with the days ticking down until I had to start repaying my student loans.
I desperately hope that I can transfer some of the roughly 20 year old credits over from the university I went to to cover the general education portion of the degree and maybe trim off a semester. (While technology absolutely has changed since the 2000s, some things haven't changed, like an introductory English or history course.)
