Just heard that an old friend - the sort of friend whoā€™s shaped your life, but you only see them every few years, mostly because theyā€™re so busy doing something new and amazing - a friend Iā€™d not recently seen but a deep sort of friend--
--all the info Iā€™ve got just said ā€œshort illnessā€ that apparently was like...a day? Iā€™ve only got some posts and friend info to go on--
--a friend I traveled to China for three weeks with, and nearly lost my boyfriend-at-the-time-who-I-was-also-slowly-breaking-up-with in Beijing at a train station--
--and played so many tabletop games and also card games, and he won most of the time but not always--
--once upon a time one of my high school teachers, but, like, the young and super-chill one who was also our Academic Decathlon coach and taught us history in a way that I still remember and try to replicate to this day, oh god--
--someone who was such a haven for so many of us nerd/queer/outsider kids, always, you could come to his room and just hang out or hide or be safe--
--whoā€™d asked me (& others) to comment on his memoir-in-progress recently (like a year ago, and now I wonder), and I had, but Iā€™d only made it through the first four chapters, and oh god I couldā€™ve done more, he had like twenty chapters that heā€™d sent to us, if Iā€™d - he wanted feedback, I couldā€™ve made it more a priority, I couldā€™ve--
--he was mid-PhD program (returning later in life, after having taught high school and various other jobs for a while), and working on a dissertation about religious and holy spaces and architecture and signs and symbols in Mission-era California, though heā€™d paused to care for family during COVID, and I just want to scream that no one will ever read that scholarship, not ever in its finished form as heā€™dā€™ve wanted--
--we even vaguely thought, a couple weeks ago, in early January - my parents live pretty close, like 20 minutes, from where he lived (fuck, that past tense), and I had the thought - ā€œshould I text B? but, eh, weā€™re here for a super-quick overnight to do some logistics things - family things - with my parents, weā€™re doing a turnaround, weā€™ll be back in the area again sometime soonā€--
--a friend I was once a TA for, a friend who loved cats, a friend who loved tabletop games, a friend whose lecture on the Trojan War I to this day can maybe recreate small bits of in my head--
--oh, no, no, you, not you. You love(d) life and exploration and travel and games and everything so much, life was a game, life was a delight--
--Iā€™m still trying to process this one. I might be for a while. A person without whom I wouldnā€™t be who I am - I mean that. So much. That is a truth.
--I donā€™t know. Maybe I...and some other people...maybe we can try to publish his memoir book? In some form? I think heā€™d like that? He said he hoped to, someday...

The secret Dungeon Meshi sauce that's getting people to eat better is that it's so non-judgmental. Senshi and the rest of the gang never talk about what not to eat besides things that taste bad and literal poison. They don't even talk about "health" that much besides the importance of a balanced diet. It's so much easier to eat well when you think of food simply as something your body needs, and that it's often worth the extra effort to make it taste good, especially when you understand how to connect "things your body needs" with "things that taste good"

not now sweetie, mommy is watching how the massive girlbossification of female characters has led to the belief that weak and vulnerable female characters are badly written characters because apparently every woman needs to be outspoken and witty and snarky and brave in order to be considered ā€œcomplexā€ and have any value in a piece of media!!

proud to say that I have never once in my life figured out the whodunit in any crime story I've read or watched. I just let the facts and clues wash over me, absorbing absolutely none of it. I am the audience they think of when they throw in red herrings, in case you've ever wondered "who would fall for this obvious false lead". it's me. I am the idiot viewer/reader. not once has an obviously framed clue revealed anything to me. my head is completely empty when I consume these stories.

the steven universe hate is insane bc people are (or at least were) more upset that fictional war criminals got fictional hugs than they recognize that it singlehandedly advanced queer rep in children's media by lightyears and then straight up ate heavy retaliation for the nerve.
It does have real flaws that are worth discussing, but it also put their male protagonist in dresses and skirts and played it straight and even empowering, they aired a lesbian wedding on television, it was a genuinely queer, genuinely diverse piece of media through and through. It did a lot of real good for the real world.
But also the fictional characters caused fictional harm to other fictional characters, and didn't get an onscreen firing squad sentence. So, you know, it's basically ontologically evil in real life.

QUICK REMINDER
In the US: threatening government officials is a felony under federal law (the president in particular is protected under 18 U.S.C. Ā§ 871). Even memes.
be careful with your jokes if they spill over to active officials.
