A procession of confessions.

#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#lan xichen#jin guangyao#lan wangji#When Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao flew into the scene I honestly had to hit pause and catch my breath.#I did not expect them to waltz in and start flirting with each other.#With this comic I have officially drawn all sides of 3zun doing something homoromantic with each other. Nice!#Lan flirting is offering to organize events. “Please...let me open up my planner...do you want to create a shared google calendar with me?”#“Oh...we will have to spend so many nights at a desk working out logistics. Do you want to see how good I can balance these accounts?”#Lan events probably have the best 'stayed within budget' reputation of all the clans.#What I mean to say is...Where are the Lan Wedding planner AUs? Actually scrap that: ALL the sects as rival wedding planners.#The Jins would do high end clients with huge budgets. Lans do traditional style weddings. Yunmeng Jiang promises fun and colour.#Sit with my vision for a moment. I'm going to move on to another topic but don't *not* marinate on that idea.#Pour one out for Lan Wangji. For having to sit through all this flirting and confessing while he ruins his own chances.#He will have to wait many years before living out his romantic fantasies. Until then...he must wait in the wings for his cue.

okay but from a criminological standpoint, creating and enforcing laws involving the metaverse would be so interesting. they wanted to charge akira with a laundry list of crimes, albeit likely just for intimidation within the interrogation room, but on a real note- where is there a law being broken? there’s no jurisdiction with a palace, and even if there were, you cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that any crimes were committed within that palace unless you witnessed it for yourself or somehow found evidence. and even then, does it count as a broken law if it doesn’t cause any harm to the owner of the palace? it’s not like every time you break an item inside a palace, the owner feels pain. i could see arguments about how changing somebody’s heart is a violation of their free will but like, good luck arguing that to a judge, seriously. honestly if akechi didn’t kill akira i would’ve loved to see how that argument would go down in a court of law. Your honor my client is sorry for going into this guys mind but he didn’t do anythinf I promiseeee. I pinky swear. can he go back to school now
#also if just Being inside a palace is a violation of a law then i’d be throwing shit to akechi and the cops too#your honor yes my client was inside the metaverse but… what were YOU doing there…?#if they WERE to create laws i have many ideas about how it would work#maybe i’ll make a separate post#heehoo ANYWAY#veestxt#persona 5#persona 5 royal#akira kurusu#ren amamiya#p5r#vees persona meta

I love giving advice, apparently, so if you are a newly pierced person or are planning on being pierced, here are some of the things I found helpful, as somebody who isn't a professional piercer but has had six plus piercings on my face and body, and multiple ear piercings (which I don't count, since I DIY'd them):
Normal bath towels are your enemy, proceed with caution after bathing. NEVER wipe moisture away from a fresh piercing, always pat it dry
You will hit a new piercing and it will hurt. This is inevitable, just know that you likely haven't destroyed it. Feel free to cry, though, it hurts like hell.
If your piercer gives you instructions, heed them. If you're on restrictions, please take it as seriously as possible
When you're going in for a piercing, please eat or drink something - at least what constitutes as a snack for your body. It really helps
If you're getting an oral piercing, make sure you size down after the healing period - I hadn't sized down for my last oral piercing when I first had the chance, and it was... so annoying to have too-large of jewelry
Not all jewelry is made equally. Do your research on materials, threading, and sizing. I've found that titanium jewelry is really nice for me, and I like it, but that isn't the only option. Make sure you think about your body and its needs and preferences
Close your eyes while being pierced (I found this really helps me)
Don't over-clean a new piercing, twice per day is usually a good place to start
The completed healing period is a very average suggestion - you may heal slower or faster. Try to adhere to that suggestion, though, especially if you do not feel you're healed enough
Personally, I have found that I am completely healed when my piercing feels like just another part of my body, even when it is touched. When my piercings start to feel as though they are foreign when they never do before, I know I likely need to clean them
While I have DIY'd piercings, I personally do not recommend it, especially if you are either not using sterilized equipment, or are piercing a very dangerous place (like the tongue). If you are absolutely positive about committing to the DIY mindset, please try to do due diligence in research at least
Tip your piercer. Body mods are a luxury service, and it takes years to even become a piercer, much less to be proficient at it. Tip your piercer, ESPECIALLY if their prices feel too good to be true - they likely are. Unless you are directed otherwise by your piercer, just assume that you will be tipping them for their services and budget accordingly
Make sure you understand how your piercer wants you to take care of your piercing, and ask questions. There is no question too "dumb"
If you are getting a body part pierced you are insecure about, realize your piercer has most likely seen HUNDREDS of different body parts of various sizes, shapes, and oddities. Your body is not uniquely bad, nor would a good piercer make you feel unwelcome or uncomfortable with your body. If they do, however, DO NOT go through with the piercing. You should feel safe being pierced by somebody, and, indeed, that is the bare minimum.
If you use saline wash to clean piercings, you can DIY it. You will go through NeilMed like no other, and with it being $5USD a bottle, that price can rack up quickly. Make sure you use distilled water and non-iodized salt, though
If your piercing is infected, please don't be too ashamed to seek help. It's in your best interest to make sure you don't get ill or your site gets nasty ("nasty" as in painful)
These are just some of the things I've learned being a pierced person! My piercings are something I absolutely needed, and I do not for a minute regret having them. I want that same happiness to befall you, and that happens when you are able to understand a bit more what goes into piercings. You are, essentially, getting a new body part installed by a pro, and so I don't want you to not be ready for that.
Again, I am not a professional piercer, but am rather a body piercing enthusiast with many different types of piercings. I don't have every piercing, though, so please look at this critically for the piercing(s) that you want or have. At least, treat this like a soft suggestion or ways to help you brainstorm what you will find helpful.
More tips are obviously welcomed, especially if you yourself have more insight or expertise. Good luck to every pierced person or future pierced person reading this💛
#body modification#body mods#piercings#body piercing#long post#honestly i love having a professional relationship with my piercer and i feel so happy to be pierced by her#i think the client and piercer relationship is a very important aspect of getting a piercing#and i don't think people talk about that part much. you should feel SAFE being around your piercer#they are literally creating a new hole in your body with a needle. that is a very vulnerable position to be in#but i'm honestly shocked at how cheap my piercer is...#...so my last piercing was only $50USD and that included the (nice) jewelry. i feel that in that cast tipping 60% was worth it...#...i know that can rack up the cost of the piercing but especially if you LIKE your piercer (like i do) - try being as generous as possible#i personally LOVE tipping my piercer and it's the best way i can show her that i LOVE her work even when i tell her#love having a personal blog that i can be autistic about piercings!!!!! I LOVE THIS ANCIENT TRADITIONNNN#one of my profs let us write about anything as long as it was an essay and i went Insane writing about historical piercing practices#LOVE ALL TYPES OF PIERCINGS especially ones that are used to 'scare' outsiders <3#when i was a kid they used to tell us about the Mystical African Tribes that STRETCHED THEIR LIPS (scary!!!!)...#...if it isn't obvious i hate that the lip plate especially practiced by the Mursi and many others have been used for frankly rascist ideas#i brought up the lip thing because i learned a lot about iirc the Mursi practice of lip plating and it's given me more appreciation for it!!#it's ENDLESSLY fascinating and i wish i hadn't been shown the negative bias against them first

Today, our firm hosted a CLE about mental health and substance abuse in the legal profession. It was a well-done presentation, trying to fit the breadth of a decades-long systemic issue into a neat PowerPoint while keeping it at only one hour long (not .1 more or .1 less).
It feels like a pointless uphill battle. You're asked to make 2100 billed hours per year (or more). As a junior associate you need to achieve perfection - but you don't even know where the standard is, not yet, you're too new and you're trying your best. You're asked to attend non-billable CLEs and networking events and participate in bar associations and look ahead to business development and go out with your colleagues and socialize with clients in non-billable events and. and. and. You know who at the firm is an alcoholic - maybe you are too. You laugh at jokes about online gambling - you know the partner who gambled away his last paycheck, and he's laughing. You know who's filing for their third divorce. Who's about to lose the kids. Who missed their son's state-level championship game because they had a call with a prospective client (he won't forget, he'll never forget).
But they ask you to take care of your mental health (but you're chastised if you don't respond to the 1am email from the partner within 10 minutes). But they ask you to take care of your physical health (but there's a beer fridge in the break room). But they ask you to practice well-being (but they expect you on-call 24/7). But they tell you to get enough sleep (but the junior associate got less than an hour because of the partner's poor planning). But you need to look out for signs of mental health concerns in your peers (but you're also thinking about dying).
I could write a novel on this. Many attorneys have written similar ramblings, articles, studies, surveys, so I don't really need to. It's a problem. But there's been no real attempts at change. Sure, yes, there's awareness. But billable demands keep rising. So do standards in not just federal court, but state court. But you're at a firm that pays so well you'll endure whatever demands they put on you because that's just too damn good to lose. But you feel like shit every day. But- hey, well, the partner has been doing this for 45 years now. Why can't you?
#not sure where I was going with this#I have too many thoughts on the issues with the legal profession#and how I'm both suffering from them and feeding them#real lawblr#why yes I'm at a litigation boutique why do you ask#took a break from writing a proposed stipulation to rant at the endless void of tumblr#thanks for all the boops today tumblawyers#actual rant of the day beyond this overall gripe with the profession#is being told both 'know the facts inside and out' but also 'you can't bill the client for so much time'#like idk I'm sorry that putting literally ten thousand pages of documents into a neatly-done five-page chronology took me a week#if you want perfection it demands the time#maybe it's beccause I'm not as smart or as sharp as the other fucking attorneys here who knows#but I'm not making the mistake I made last month again#write off my fucking time if you have to#you want perfection? it. takes. time. and I fucking gave that to you.

in 2024 I wanna stop hearing about betterhelp
#elise's posts#SO many youtubers etc I like are promoting this shit#fyi for those who don't know it's a REALLY unethical business trying to take advantage of the mentally ill#and before you say 'but how else am I meant to find a therapist that does online sessions'#post-pandemic most therapists offer this#and if you want the whole 'I can text my therapist for therapy anytime 24/7' thing...#sorry I know it might sound useful but it's SUPER bad for both your own mental health and your therapist's#sorry but therapists are not meant to be there for you 24/7#that's not their job and it's really unhelpful for YOU to become dependant on a 24/7 therapist#betterhelp do not vet their therapists thoroughly#and some people say they have been evangelised to on betterhelp by preachers who ask the algorithm to assign them queer and atheist clients#many reputable therapists state that it's a terrible business model promoting unhealthy practices to patients#it claims to be the cheapest option but it's more expensive than the most expensive therapist I've ever had (I'm in the UK)#and significantly more expensive than the cheapest who was still good and probably more qualified than some people on betterhelp#you pay extra for the middleman#(being allocated a therapist you didn't choose and vet yourself isn't great anyway imo surely you want agency in this huge decision?)#and I'm sorry but pride counselling is a branch of the same company#please just look for therapists that specialise in your needs through a regulatory model and get in touch with them directly#not all of them have waitlists and tbh if every therapist on betterhelp is available whenever what does that say about them

thinking about it sex work isnt inherently less safe than doing any other 1:1 meeting work (a thing youd do a lot in home care as a nurse for example), it's the structures and stigma that make it less so
#i havent done sw ive only done healthcare#i would actually like to do sw#the societal and structural issues around it which are not the fault of swers is whats keeping me from trying it#that and i am in fact not a very hard worker and i have a very niche look/vibe#like theres a market but i fear it might be saturated compared to how many ppl are into it and how many restrictions i have#idk#anyway what i mean by structures is like the way you need to self establish your safety network vs if you go to a client in eg healthcare u#workplace likely knows where you are. also the stigma and hate against swers vs stigma against many other professions#(anyway ymmv im just musing around my own area)#im afraid of being doxxed by you know whats and its already almost happened and theres info connected to my name id rather not be there#so thats sorta my Main Fear like i would wanna keep anonymity if i were to do it and thats hard and im quite recognisable on even like#live video if you really really wanna cause me trouble w like future employers or sth in other fields#ANYWAY#treewhispers

still thinking about grief and recovery and support on this show because oh boy did the shows airing this weekend put me in my dead parent feelings i said before i was concerned about how porjai is dealing with her own grief, and this episode we saw her easily talking about rung, and even casually yelling to rung that she misses her! maybe this is me projecting, because i can't do that, but this seems like a pretty healthy place to be, especially contrasted with mhok's relative silence, and i'm glad!
and mhok's silence doesn't come from anger or resentment (which are valid ofc, but i did wonder if imprisonment gave him time to work through this to some degree) but out of protectiveness. i fucking loved this, because it felt so realistic and lived-in. i lost a parent to intimate partner violence, and i NEVER open up about it; people sure have Opinions, and it makes me insane
but day finding out about rung offscreen wasn't on my bingo card, tbh. because we've been with mhok through everything he's found out about day
it doesn't bother me, exactly, but it feels slightly unbalanced, and i suppose what i'm thinking is: knowing what happened to someone doesn't actually tell you how they feel about it, or how it affects them, or how you can support them
mhok found out from that lady sharing personal medical info she had no business sharing about day losing his eyesight in the accident, but he put in the work to understand what it actually meant for day. and in most cases, we've seen day telling mhok about what troubles him in his own words (his crush on auggy, why he was avoiding his friends, etc)
bereavement is probably statistically more common, so i suppose it may not need to be spelled out for an audience? but i am wary, because there have been so many shows where characters are visibly — to me! — struggling with grief and everything else matryoshka-ed in it, but audience reaction simply doesn't factor this in
i'm also thinking about how often mhok tells day a story about himself with the intent of making him smile ("i bought two bracelets just because i had money to spend" "i found this rooftop when i needed to sober up" "my sister called this false rice". i'm certain there are more!). because this is what a caretaker does, or because this is what mhok does, or both?
because this always made me wonder what it would take for mhok to talk about something that wouldn't make day smile, or because he wanted to share. in the former case, it'd have to be something pretty bad!
of course, talking isn't the only way to recovery or intimacy. and mhok going from "i'm breaking up with my devoted gf because i don't want to drag her down with me" to "i'm going to ask you to be my bf" is pretty significant!
but as they navigate the journey from being caretaker and client to being boyfies, the balance has to shift around a bit to them supporting each other, consciously choosing to be there for each other
in this episode what we got was: you only want money to buy that car. and i'm not even mad about this, because this kind of comment is very in line with day's character. but wow. day, i know you're feeling big feelings, but throwing one of the few things you know about mhok's life in his face is. not it!
#last twilight the series#i know this is a “trustworthy” director. and i will happily eat my words! but#it's always bothered me when couples fall into this pattern of ONE person doing the bulk of the supporting and caring and accommodating#and i am HOPING WISHING PRAYING this show doesn't do the same you know?#also like the imbalance makes sense if they're only caretaker and client of course! i'm just SO curious how this will be addressed#thinking a lot lately about characters society puts into a certain box because social status or because they're Manly or Tough or some shit#and there isn't a space for them to be soft and goofy and playful and tender. and people assume they don't need to be cared for#ten from cooking crush and babe from pit babe and top from only friends. for example.#and “there's zero tenderness in you” mhok#and i desperately want to see these characters get to be more than they're “allowed” to be#patriarchy is a curse#oh also i suspect mhok's “healing journey” will come to a head once he buys the car or whatever ends up happening there#ALSO GOD how many people would move the fuck out of that house afterward IF THEY HAVE THE MONEY TO DO SO#and maybe it doesn't feel like this for mhok and porjai but living in the same place afterward can be intensely suffocating#but they can't just move and start over like moneyed individuals might be able to!#recovery and healing simply looks different for the rich#anyway next ep will probably foreground mhok caring for day. and there are not many eps left!! i am wary but still fairly optimistic

Rise in parents engaging in sex-selection during IVF has the fertility biz booming
By Cassy Fiano-Chesser | May 14, 2024
The fertility industry has opened new doors for countless would-be parents across the globe, and it’s not just doors allowing them to have children. Thanks to in-vitro fertilization (IVF), people can create their children and then have them tested to ensure they meet all the right specifications. While this brave new world sounds like something out of a science fiction novel, it’s all too real – and using IVF to select the kind of child you want is becoming more and more common.
In 2021, socialite and reality television alum Paris Hilton announced her plans to use IVF to create her family, and choosing the sex of her babies was one of the reasons. “Well, we have been doing the IVF. So I can pick twins if I like. Kim [Kardashian] is actually the one who told me about that, I didn’t even know anything about it. And I’m happy she told me that advice, and introduced me to her doctor, so yeah. We have them all ready to go,” she said, continuing, “I think it’s just something most women should do, just to have. And then you can pick if you want boys or girls — just because I really want to have twins that are a boy and a girl. The only way to 100% get that is by making it happen that way.”
Hilton is hardly alone. The number of people foregoing sex in favor of IVF in order to have children is growing — as is sex selection. Though, according to the Daily Mail, sex selection is illegal in most of the globe, it isn’t in the United States, and it’s become trendy.
“The market is the size of the human race,” Jeffrey Steinberg, founder of the Fertility Institutes in Los Angeles, said in an interview with Slate. He claimed 85% of his clients are drawn in by the idea of choosing their baby’s sex.
Sex selection has long been practiced, albeit not using IVF; instead, parents sometimes found out the sex of their baby during an ultrasound, and if it was the “wrong” sex, they sought an abortion. Though this has typically been a way to bolster a cultural preference for boys, Slate pointed out that in the United States, it’s become the opposite: the market is skewed toward girls.
Sharon Moayeri, the founder of OC Fertility in Newport Beach, California, does not market the ability to choose the baby’s sex as aggressively as Steinberg does, and therefore, said only around 15% of her clients arrive without fertility issues. Another doctor at the medical center at the University of California San Francisco told Slate that “single mothers by choice, same-sex couples, and families with a history of autism” were typically more likely to request girls. A study also found that white parents having their first child chose female embryos 70% of the time.
"When I think about having a child that’s a boy, it’s almost a repulsion, like, Oh my God, no,” one woman said.
Another argued, “Boy children tend to be less caring towards their parents. It doesn’t really matter if it’s socialized or biological. It’s probably socialized, but I can’t change all of society.”
And because laws in other countries ban sex selection, thousands of people fly to the United States each year just to take advantage of this country’s lax fertility regulations. And it means big business for the fertility industry.
“It’s a moneymaking industry,” Laura Kerwin, a Harvard-trained psychologist, told Slate. “People need to realize that [clinics] have a fiduciary duty to their shareholders to make money. They’re trying to sell you on an option.”
There is little to no oversight within the fertility industry, meaning there is little to no information on what the current state of the industry is. “We do not even know how many frozen embryos we have in this country,” Margaret Marsh, a professor at Rutgers University, told the Atlantic, explaining that the last count — 400,000 — was 20 years ago. “[Today] we have no idea.”
The Atlantic also noted that 75% of fertility clinics advertise sex-selection as an offered service, allowing people to undergo IVF simply because they want to choose if they have a boy or a girl. Steinberg told the Atlantic this “service” makes the fertility industry approximately $90 million each year.
Steinberg also scoffed at the notion of increased regulations, saying it is “putting the handcuffs on scientists.” Then, using pro-abortion terminology, he added, “If there’s anything society should have learned, it’s ‘Keep their hands off of people’s reproductive choices’.”
IVF, though often described as a way to help heartbroken infertile couples to create families, has created a monster in which children are no longer treated as human beings, but as products to be designed, engineered, and then sold to the highest bidder upon demand. And as these embryonic children are products, they can be screened, destroyed, traded, and even turned into jewelry.
Any attempts to cut back on this commodification is swiftly attacked as cruelty towards the infertile — but what about the children being created? What will it take for the line to be drawn and a stop be placed on this reproductive free-for-all?
I checked on that statement about embryos turned into jewelry and found articles mostly dating back to 2018. But it did happen.
https://www.genethique.org/jewellery-made-from-supernumerary-embryos-obtained-after-ivf/?lang=en
"When I think about having a child that’s a boy, it’s almost a repulsion, like, Oh my God, no,” one woman said. While I get that I'm still creeped out about this being a big international business.
#Anti surrogacy#Anti using IVF for sex selection#Babies are not commodities#Anti custom made babies#Interesting how many articles about Paris Hiltons surrogacy focused on her earlier abuse not about her desire to control what she had#sex selection is illegal in most of the globe but not USA#Fertility Institutes in Los Angeles#OC Fertility in Newport Beach#Do they families choosing girls really want daughters who will became their own person who the sex more likely to be a helper?#American families may be more likely to choose female embryos but the international clients are choosing male embryos#Making money off sex selection#We do not even know how many frozen embryos we have in the USA#At last count there were 400k frozen embryos and that count was taken 20 years ago#75% of fertility clinics advertise sex-selection#Live Action is a conservative site but it gives the statistics

I've been getting lost in my own head so much lately
#been thinking a lot about endings#how sudden they are. how rarely you get a warning for them#a client tells me about the last trip they took with their wife before she passed. the ending isn't the point. just a byproduct of time.#but I lose focus on what they're saying. I fixate on the idea of the Last thing. they didn't know it would be the last trip. it just was.#would they have done anything differently had they known? undoubtedly. but it's too late for that now.#another client tells me her nephew died. he was younger than me. his baby will be born this autumn. a relationship ended before it began.#he was so excited to read to her. but he's gone and nothing can change that.#so many things can happen in an instant. you experience endings every day whether you realize it or not.#not every ending is a death tho.#relationships splinter and fracture until eventually they're over. everything has an expiration date.#how do you even begin to cope with it all#I know it's poison to begin a relationship of any sort with the mindset that your time together is limited#but it is.#idk. I'm just really really tired. none of this grief truly belongs to me. but I feel it nonetheless.

I will not be that asshole when I obtain my therapy license. By that I mean not being condescending toward clients and assuming they don't know shit about their physical and mental health. I don't understand how mental health care providers (and medical, let's be real) get so far up their own ass that they forget the crucial bits about their job: LISTENING AND EMPATHY. Even if you know or feel on a gut level that your patient be blowing smoke up your ass, you need to do right by them the best you can. Humans got issues. Even the "good" and "best" ones. You should know that when you sign up with a career that involves interacting with every facet of humanity you can think of. It's some deep dark ice cream with sprinkles and a cherry on top. Sprinkle and cherry people/experiences are rare. Most people are the base. Just the ice cream, and there's nothing wrong with that, but the flavor can get old real fast, and you gotta accept that if you're gonna be a doc or mental health provider. Appreciate the the components, appreciate the damn people who seek YOU for help.
#I get it. Compassion fatigue is huge and the pandemic made it worse. Hell#I get it monthly#I guess this is my law of equivalent exchange for yeeting my uterus and no longer having a period. I don't menstruate I just lose my empathy#for a few days then go back to normal haha bad joke but wtf ever#but it's no excuse to be an asshole just because you can wave a degree over someone's head#if it wasn't obvious doctors and many therapists give me the ick like no tomorrow cause of personal experience#and having to work alongside many of them#and being mad at the fuckitry they pull on my clients#and I'm currently mad af right now at how im being treated at an appointment today#they changed their tune when i brought up I'm a QMHA#it shouldn't take someone going YO I AM IN AN ADJACENT CAREER TO YOU AND BTW I WORKED WITH YOUR EMPLOYER BEFORE#to get people to just be fucking nice to others#i know i vent a lot regarding mental health but i am passionate cause ive been fucked over one too many times#and if i can be that one person that makes this shit easier for people imma do it

#currently working on a project that is making me want to pull my hair out#the client wants all of these plugins so I’m having to figure out how those function *while also* trying to design#meaning my brain is being pulled in too many different directions#and then other clients are sending emails that say ‘urgent’ in all caps#which is doing fucking wonders for my anxiety#so I have to stop the learning process to deal with a fucking emergency#it’s just… fuck. it’s making me wanna crawl into bed and mute out the world

the tattoo artist said my collarbones are "incredible" and "aesthetic", thanks, i am dying for these.
#ed tw#one of our clients came in for the first time in a year and she went like ''i haven't seen you in a year and you've gotten so thin!''#like some random person remembered how i looked a year ago?#it's like that weird ed limbo#i want to be told i look good because that's what i am striving for#but mostly people tell me i look sick. and that is ALSO true of course#but i've always been concerningly thin for my height because of marfans - never in my life i have been ''average healthy weight''#it was just acceptable ''model'' type levels so no one gave a shit about my health#and now you do when i actually don't want you to?#i personally think i look good. and if that's killing me? well. like i wasn't dying before? at least my coffin wouldn't be hard to carry#if that's concerning to you too - i am eating. i am not planning to lose more and mantain just this#my GW was ridiculously low because i am number-obsessed#like many ana people#but i personally finally decided that perhaps it was TOO ridiculous#and since i like how i look now - i just have to keep this weight
