Thinking about Wade's life and his mental health issues a lot, and I just thought about this. Not only being abused, but his entire brain being made out of cancer, and the fact that oxygen was physically taken from his brain over the course of 2+ days multiple times?

We see him coloring a lot and claim multiple times that he doesn't/ can't read (this is probably a bit, I guarantee he can read), but it had me thinking what if some days were more childish then others as part of his coping mechanisms?

At first, Logans was really confused about why Althea puts up with it until he realizes that it's extremely good for him to just... be taken care of? Praised and given affection for the bare minimum? He thinks it's weird. This wasn't the same man he was fighting with yesterday.

Coming into the living room, he sees Wade sprawled out with crayons and markers all around him with multiple pictures already coloured, his notebook having pages ripped out of it as he kicks his feet and hums.

On the tv, there are cartoons playing. Once in a while, he'll look up at the tv and then go back to coloring. "What are you doing??"

"Hi wolvie. 'm colouring."

"He's behaving, so don't ruin it." Al says. There's pictures by her, and she is holding a box of cereal.

"O..kay??" Sitting down, he's almost too curious to just walk away, picking up puppins so she doesn't ruin his drawings, petting her confusedly.

Sometimes, Al will hold out some cereal in her hand. "Wade." And he will see him shimmy over and take the cereal. "Thank you."

"You're welcome, baby."

As hes scooting back to his color spot he stops and watches the tv for a bit longer then usual.

"...What.. the fuck." Logan says to her and she gives him a brow raise. "What?"

"What is he doing?"

"He's coloring. And I thought I was the blind one."

"No no I mean.. those aren't murder plans. That's puppins."

"Yes? And?"

"And.. what did you do to him?"

"Treated him like a human being. Give it a try once inawhile." She says, and he comes back with more pictures, climbing in between them with no regard for space as he leans into her.

"Oh thank you. What is it?"

"It's you."

"Oh? How sweet. Do I look good?"

"Mhm!"

"Im glad. How about you show our friend here your amazing pictures. And he better be nice!"

So wade turns and now is leaning on logan as he points to a different picture. One of Logan with Puppins on a leash with a sun in the corner and crappy grass, a hearts all over the place.

At first he wants to tell him to get off of him, but seeing the pictures and how excited his eyes were to show him, it hits him and he understands.

".. uhm.. thank you?" But he puts it back in his hand. "Oh- you want me to keep it?"

Wade nods and starts cleaning up his crayons.

Logan turns to whisper to Al "How long does this go on?"

"About 2 hours or so."

"Why?"

"God only knows, but it helps with his nightmares."

"Colouring helps with his nightmares??"

"Its more then that. Hey sweetheart? Why don't you bring your ponys out."

"Theyre horses."

"Oh im sorry, my mistake. I think logan here wants to play horses."

Logan gives her a look like excuse me? When did I sign up for that? "No.. uhm.. I think im good."

Wade gets this look of sad innocence but goes to get them anyway, beginning to play by himself, brushing them and making them talk to each other quietly. As if he speaks any louder, he would get hit.

Logan groans and is like "Gimme a fucking horse.."

From then on, Logan is quick to understand what's happening and is much nicer to him, starts giving him snacks, buying him actual coloring books, and has pinned his drawings to the fridge each time he's gifted one. His horses name is Buttercup, by the way.

well you guys really called my bluff on this one, haha. I have a lot to say on the topic so this will probably turn into a long post but the answer really depends on this: what interests you about astro boy, pluto, and the franchise/tezuka's body of work as a whole? what do you want out of this experience?

if you're just looking for places to read/watch these things and that's it, I'll put some links here at the top so you don't have to dig through this whole mess.

so you're interested in astro boy but aren't sure where to start: my opinion as someone whose point of view you respect for some reason

it didn't occur to me until recently that for a lot of people who follow me, your cultural touchstone for the concept of astro boy is most likely to be the 2009 american movie. I didn't watch that as a kid, I was 14 when it came out and fully into my "anime is superior to western animation" phase, but I've watched it now and well.... if you like it that's great! I did not. I'm not going to dwell on that, but I think it's worth noting that whatever your opinion on it as a movie is I don't really think it's a good representation of astro boy and its themes. moving on.

the manga

if you want the pure, unfiltered astro boy experience, this is as close as you're gonna get. it's gonna be a little haphazard though because the dark horse publication, which is probably the only way you're gonna find to read it in english, does not order the stories chronologically. I don't think that really matters because there's not a lot of continuity so as long as you understand the basic premise you can read in whatever order you want, and this puts a lot of really good stories first anyway so it's nice too. personally as far as all versions of astro boy proper go, the manga is my favorite. it's not always an easy read, for reasons I'll get into in a moment, and it's not always good either. some stories are phenomenal, some are just plain silly, and some are downright terrible. but given how long it ran for and how consistently and without breaks tezuka worked on not just it but all his other manga too I think that's too be expected. but even the bad ones I think are worth a look! this is the history of manga as a medium right here! and I love the manga, it's fun, funny, wonderfully drawn, compelling, shockingly dark at times, and just a fascinating read for those with an interest in classic comics.

all that said, I think it would be irresponsible of me to recommend it without also including a big fat disclaimer, which dark horse was kind enough to put at the front of the book.

if you have an interest or familiarity with classic/vintage manga, anime, comics, and cartoons, you probably saw this coming, but some of this shit gets REAL racist, most often in terms of how people are drawn. some of tezuka's biggest inspirations were the rubberhose american cartoons of the 20s and 30s, and all that implies. for whatever the opinion of a white american is worth, based on his writing I really do believe he had good intentions- he consistently speaks out against racism and bigotry in general, in astro boy especially. you can tell he was very passionate about it. but I'm not gonna defend the guy either, you can't be drawing people like that, even if it was the 40s-80s. a lot of the experience of getting into tezuka is reading a story where the moral is "racism is evil! end discrimination!" accompanied by straight up racial caricatures in the art. it's baffling and infuriating. if I could I would travel back in time and hire the man a sensitivity reader, but I can't, and he's been dead for 35 years so we'll never know what he would've done about it today. all we can do is take it as an opportunity to learn and do better. but, if all that puts you off getting into the manga or the series at large, I don't blame you!

with that out of the way, the size of the manga might intimidate you. there's a lot of it. lucky for you you don't have to read all of it if you don't want to! I've read the entire thing because I'm a completionist at heart, but I've had several friends come to me for a smaller and more manageable reading list, which is as follows:

(stars for my personal favorites, grimaces for "I did enjoy this one and I think it's worth reading but I don't feel good about recommending it". I also think "the artificial sun" and "atlas" are important reads if you're interested in the history of the franchise because they get referenced a lot, but they are VERY racist and I don't think theyre good enough overall to make them worth putting on the list despite that.)

the 2003 anime

I am not quite done watching this one but I'm pretty close so I feel confident in saying: on the whole, it's great! it looks absolutely fantastic for a tv anime from that era, the character and world design is top-notch, and overall it does a really good job adapting the best and most important parts of the manga into a continuous story, although it softens the blow of the darker moments quite a bit (which might be a good thing for you, depending on your tastes). it's pretty beloved by western fans, and for good reason.

I do have my issues with it, for one this might not be a popular opinion but I think they majorly screwed up on adapting the "greatest robot on earth" arc (my favorite arc btw, yes I might be salty), for another they really sand the edges off of uran's character compared to the manga and make her a lot more meek and girly. but that's just my opinion and if this show is the only one you've watched you wouldnt know that anyway. so don't let that deter you if you're interested, you'll be missing out on a pretty fantastic kids show.

so, if you're looking to really dive chest-first into astro boy as a franchise and understand all there is to know: maybe don't start with this one. it changes a lot from the source material and kind of does its own thing. but if you're just looking for a good story thats fun to watch and total eye candy, go nuts!

pluto

pluto by naoki urasawa is an adaptation/reimagining of astro boy's most famous and beloved arc, "the greatest robot on earth". it's also what got me into the franchise and one of my favorite manga ever! pluto reinvents the story as a detective thriller set in the aftermath of what is effectively, and obviously, the iraq war. it's brutal and harrowing, and beautiful and cathartic and hopeful. to me it is the gold standard for "dark and gritty reboot of a children's story" because urasawa adores tezuka and respects the original version, which was always a dark tragedy anyway, just presented differently. you might have seen pluto got an anime adaptation last year as well. I've watched it, it's pretty good! it doesn't change all that much (I don't like the few things they DID change but whatever) but I just think urasawa's artwork, paneling, and pacing are completely unmatched so I'd recommend the manga first. I'm not gonna be that asshole who insists you gotta read the manga over the anime though, if anime is easier for you you're better off having experienced pluto that way than not at all.

(if you ARE interested in both astro boy and pluto and are considering which to get into first, it's important to know that reading the arc pluto is based on will spoil a loooooot of things about the story. so weigh the pros and cons of that before making a decision!)

so, that's basically what I have to say. I haven't watched the 60s or 80s anime adaptations so I can't give insight on those, and I'm by no means an expert on any of this. I only started reading the original manga like three months ago and before that my memories of the other stuff was pretty faded, before I revisited it. if you're interested though I hope this helps, and I hope you enjoy yourself if you decide to take the leap! it's kind of a rabbit hole. I did not know what I was getting into when I decided to reread pluto, but I'm sure glad I did.

-Transfem Lesbian Pomni (Is On The Spectrum)

-Pomni has a cat tail (This is to give other hcs context)

-Pomni loves hearing Ragatha play the cello

-Ragatha will always ask if it's okay if she can touch Pomni or not, but if they're in immediate danger there's no time to ask (she will ask if Pomni's okay and apologize AFTER the danger has passed)

-Pomni learned how to sew just to help out Ragatha (She's not great at it, but it's better than nothing)

-They both learned each other's favorite smells and they've asked for candles of that scent just to sit in their rooms and take it in

-Pomni's not the BIGGEST fan of her body but Ragatha makes sure she feels valid (if you misgender her, you die. There's no getting pass it)

-Ragatha hides her love of horses because she's embarrassed by it, but Pomni actually really like animals

-Pomni makes various animal noises when expressing emotions, mainly cat or even dog like noises- and Ragatha's memorized all of them

-Blanket cuddles ALL THE TIME- even if Pomni's okay with touch. Ragatha being one giant comforter for Pomni always makes her SO HAPPY

-Pomni has bells on her tail, which although was Caine's idea, it DID make it easier for Ragatha to know if Pomni's sneaking away for a late-night snack or not

-Pomni has a BIG love for dresses. Ragatha once made a dress for Pomni, who wears it every time they go on a date

-Jax was the first to find out about them dating by barging into their room while they were making out. Caine was the last to find out, but still thinks they're "gal pals"

-Whenever Ragatha's having a bad day, Pomni just likes to talk. Since she's not always up for physical comfort, she knows her voice soothes Ragatha

-Pomni swears a lot whilst Ragatha hardly does so

-Ragatha makes Pomni flustered CONSTANTLY, and she never even means to

-Pomni's stamina is nonexistent while Ragatha can run for hours without realizing it

-Ragatha can pick up Pomni like she's nothing

-Pomni is awful at coming up with cute nicknames for Ragatha, but Ragatha has a bunch. Her favorite one is 'sweetheart' for Pomni

-If the jester's feeling very protective, she'll bite Ragatha to show bite marks, showing that no one touches Ragatha but her (And the doll's beyond embarrassed about it)

-Pomni's flirting sucks, but Ragatha's reaction is THE most 30s thing you could imagine. Hands on sides of face, shaking her head a little, "Oh Pomni, QUIT IT! You're gonna make me blush!", blushing hard, giggling along the way

-If Pomni gets flustered enough, she gets a nosebleed like a cartoon character! Her blood is black in color

-Ragatha lets Pomni help in the kitchen by grabbing ingredients for her. That's about it

-Ragatha was shocked hearing Pomni talk in Spanish and Russian for the first times (AN: YES, I still think Pomni's Russian and Hispanic)

-When they kiss, it's VERY obvious. Ragatha wears red lipstick, and it gets all over Pomni's face, making her all red and flustered, but she loves it every time it happens

-No one has told Pomni her eyes turn into hearts when she's infatuated yet. Not even Jax (Mainly cause Ragatha won't ALLOW him to do so)

-Pomni thinks Ragatha looks hot holding knives.... Ragatha's a little bit of a klutz with knives in reality

-Unlike Ragatha, Pomni actually likes bugs. She usually handles centipedes if any are around

-Ragatha has a big sweet tooth which is why she bakes. Although it has lead to Ragatha accidentally getting high because Zooble made pot brownies... Multiple times

-Pomni is easy to anger whilst Ragatha has a long fuse, but can be easily bothered

-If Pomni gets too stressed out, her teeth get shark like. She can crush a damn BONE with them, and Ragatha helps out with those said bones (don't ask where she gets them from)

-Pomni likes playing horror games whilst Ragatha likes calmer games

-Ragatha loves FNaF and will ramble about it to Pomni

-Pomni likes to draw! Ragatha loves ALL the drawings she does

-They watch Disney movies in bed together :D

-Most of their dates get ruined because of Jax or Caine (Sometimes Bubble)

-Ragatha gets oddly competitive in multiplayer games, thus why they don't play many multiplayer games together

-Slow dancing is Ragatha's favorite romantic thing to do with Pomni

-They usually kiss when both are laying down because the height difference hurts Ragathas back hurt when they kiss whilst standing

-Pomni HATES being wet with her clothes on. Pomni has to be carried by the scruff of her outfit like a cat because she just COMPLETELY shuts down due to overstimulation of the wet clothes against her skin

-Ragatha hates her hands, but Pomni finds them interesting, and she likes to watch Ragatha use her hands for various things JUST to see how they work

-Caine almost gave them a child by overhearing something they said wrong, but thankfully the two were quick enough to stop him

hello im going to talk about my non fankid oc's because i feel like i talk too much about my children (sorry) and too little about my other characters and i know probably no one cares but fuck you/lh im going to force you to care/j

Tools the Chinchilla (she/they) is the oldest character in the group! (Ironically age wise they're the youngest, being 14). They're an anti hero, of sorts?? But I think a better way to describe her is just a silly chinchilla doing her own thing, not caring about anyone else. They really just care about what they have going on and are going to do whatever they need to get things done. She does not care about relationships at all, and only tries to get closer to someone if it benefits her. They're a investigator/scientist, mostly studying about chaos, so you can guess how that leads her to follow the main cast around, trying to act all friendly to get info out of them (but everyone knows she doesn't actually like them because she's really bad at acting). She also has a very big ego, and constantly compares herself to characters like Tails of Eggman, pushing them both down although she's not really an inventor, unless she needs something specific.

Prince the Peacock (he/him) is my boy!!! I love his concept. He has hypnotic powers thanks to his feathers, and he also cares a lot about his looks. He's very sophisticated, but also very high energy and friendly (he can be a little too much, in fact). He's also a bit naive, but that's mostly because he usually sees the best in people, and believes anyone can be good if he's just nice enough. He sees himself and Tools as best friends, even though she can't stand him, he just thinks they're shy. He's a little bit too scared of everything, but after being saved by the Resistance during the war he feels like he needs to do his part, so he's actually quite brave and very usually pushes himself out of his comfort zone.

Ferocity the Spider (she/her) seems to be somewhat of a fan favorite, and I think that might be thanks to her goth lolita fashion and the fact that she's a spider, definitely not something seen in the Sonic franchise. She's a full on villain, and is que agressive. She has all of the abilities spiders commonly have, but I can't get more specific than that. I'm way too scared of spiders and could only use drawings as reference for her design, so I didn't actually take the time to decide what kind of spider she is bskdbskfnskx She has every move calculated, and takes everything into account, she's very careful and methodic, but, like I said, when she needs to, she can get very agressive and scary. She's also very closed off and untrustful, so while she does have someone she works with (more on that later), she usually prefers to do things herself, just to make sure.

Joy the Horse (she/her) is a total sweetie. She's very shy and quiet, but has the biggest heart ever. She's a baker!!! And has her own bakery:) she sometimes brings some of her baked goods to Restoration HQ because some of her friends are there. She's softspoken and kind, but don't look down on her! She can kick you over the next city if she needs to>:) usually in defense, not in offense. She doesn't fight often, but if her or someone she cares about is involved she goes all out trying to help. Also Joy is the only one Tools tries to be friends with, but that's because they want free food. Joy knows this, and yet she still pretends she doesn't see when the chinchilla sneaks a cookie into their pocket.

Torch the Angler Fish (they/them) is Ferocity's right hand!!! Mostly just the dumb henchman in cartoons. They're way too energetic and impulsive, which is why Ferocity usually has to hold them down. They normally do the dirty work; if they need to fight, Torch will do it while Ferocity watches from the shadows and only interferes if needed. Torch, of course, has a little light that can lure people closer to them, and they often hide in the shadows, to then attack by surprise. They enjoy scaring people, they're a bit of an asshole lol. I said Ferocity is agressive, and yet, Torch is the most agressive of the two, which makes them a bit more scary.

Index the Secretary Bird (she/her) is a cute girly who works for the Restoration as, you guessed it, a secretary. I imagine she was friends with Jewel, and when she saw how much work the beetle had, she decided to step in and help. She's also very methodic, and strict. She actually was a librarian before she joined the Restoration, so you can be sure she has outstanding organization skills. She's a bit unexpressive, and distant, but definitely not mean, and if you manage to get close to her you'll have a friend who will give you the best advice and will listen to you with all of her attention!! She also has some knowledge in first aids, so when needed she also helps in that area.

And yeah that's that the fankids get too much attention so these guys also needed a post dedicated to talking about them tehee

the general consensus I remember from all my time in the fandom is that Raven is 16 in the toon, I know that tinder profile that was posted on CN's instagram a year or so ago says she's 18 but I think that was more just because you have to be 18 to use tinder than official confirmation but 🤷‍♀️. I do think she was intended to be under 18 in the CN cartoon.

I hate so much that Raven having sex with Beast Boy while he's transformed into a horse became a meme. Like why is that one of the biggest things about Raven in just the general public consciousness. And yeah, I think it's slightly misogynistic how much of the perception of toon Raven is tied to her dating Gar, especially considering they never even dated in the original toon. She can't be her own character, she has to be tied with a man. And like I said in my last post, almost everyone sexualizes toon Raven in a way that's really ooc. She's not a mean goth gf!!

NTT Raven is so beautiful. George Perez and Eduardo Barretto were both incredible artists, and Perez especially had a talent for drawing characters with unique styles and facial features. I hate that Raven went from a mature woman with an original look to just ambiguously alt with both no real ties to any of the subcultures they're trying to appeal to and no meaningful reason for why she looks the way she does. I really hope that someone at DC sees sense and starts drawing her looking more like her original design.

Crossover Fangans are quite frequent as of now ( such as Cartoons In Danganronpa, totally not promoting one of my current favourite on going Fangans (; ) but nah on a serious note, just really curious to the upbringing of 69 and how the whole thought process with it's conception went yknow?

Ah yes, my origin story (or well the fic’s at least lol)

I did mention this in another post, but one day while I was scrolling through danganronpa fics (terrible decision, I know) I stumbled across a fic called DR9: Despair’s Counterattack (by PurpleDrank). Now, just by looking at the absurd but hilarious cast list, I was infatuated with the idea of placing random characters into a killing game. I knew of fangans that existed such as SDRA2, but I hadn’t really been exposed to the idea of crossover killing games until that fic.

I don’t think anyone knows this, but since I was young, I was obsessed with crossovers. And I mean obsessed. Not like those 2 TV shows having a crossover special kind of interest, no, like slapping characters from separate medias I enjoyed and just thinking about them doing stuff together. From the most trauma-torn grunge middle-aged man to a cartoon horse to a random anime girl just hanging out because… why not? It’s free, and no one can stop you.

And believe it or not, that hasn’t changed.

For fun, I was just like, “lol, what if I wrote down my own cast of characters that might be funny to see interact because it’s not like anyone’s gonna read it anyway.” Once I assembled the cast, it spiralled from there. Oh, who would be the protagonist? How would these characters look in my current artstyle? What would the first floor of the school look like? At that point I decided to abandon my current fixation on a set of old OCs and focus on creating this fic. Unlike DR9, I wanted to actually draw the images myself, seeing as how photo editing could only go so far with the intro cards and not for more dynamic CGs (still respect the use of it though cuz it does make things more visually engaging imo).

I remember trying to figure out how to produce my own murder cases. I was very interested to try and use ideas related to the characters involved in the case, which is why for the first case, the BDA image is a reference to a gag from spongebob, and the method of murder is directly tied to the murderer’s iconic ability in his game. I also remember drawing small diagrams and jotting down the truth bullets that could expand the case such as accounts in a notebook I had. This process has actually been used a bit for DR96 too — just using different mediums to help plan can really refresh your mind if you’re having trouble figuring things out.

I didn’t think the fic would get as popular as it did. Back then, I’m certain crossover fangans were not a huge thing, and definitely not as saturated as they are now. It was fun having a small following, but as things grew, it definitely was exhilarating as it was intimidating. But I don’t regret going through with it at all, as I’ve seen first hand how it’s inspired many, allowed people to connect and form friendships and even open people up to other medias.

So all in all, I’m just a big crossover fan and danganronpa is a strangely good medium for it, and makes for a pretty gruesome one at that lol

An analysis on "Anime Rock, Paper, Scissors".

"Debating the ethical and morals of an AI Tool with an E-Rate Artist."

Okay, so, like, first of all: I love this video. I've been watching and rewatching it all day. I love it that much.

It captures everything about anime I fell in love with. The over-the-top dialogue, the dramatization over something so mundane as, the the trappings of dark fantasy. It taps into a very specific core of nostalgia for me.

BUT!

Yeah, I love this video to hell and back. But, well, there's no real getting around the messy fact that AI was used in the process-hell, you can even see it in the video thumbnail. Even if this is a few steps above most AI art, AI art will always have a certain 'look' to it that makes it stand out.

So, full disclaimer: I'm not an animator. And I feel I have no real horse in this race, even as an artist. Hell, I wouldn't even really call myself an artist. Sure, I can say I have roughly 13 years of experience drawing, but I don't think my art is really on a level that makes it very appealing and I honestly feel as though I've reached a peak. Like I've reached the apex of my potential and, well, it's not much.

So excuse me for putting my foot in my mouth about a topic I don't really have much to contribute to.

So, Corridor Digital's animated short is 1/2 rotoscoping and 1/2 AI art generation. The AI was trained to emulator a dark fantasy anime style by feeding it screenshots of Vampire Hunter D. The process for how its done can be seen here.

I'm kind of on two minds on this. For the most part, I don't think AI is gonna replace actual artists. Cause there's just a lot of stuff an actual artist can do an AI can't do. And while the entire process isn't shown, a lot of editing and manipulating had to be done in order to get the AI where they wanted it. A lot of choreography and filming technique was needed. How effects work, writing-art is more than just scribbling on paper and an AI might be able to mimic art, but it can't 'draw'.

Hell, the video still has a lot of jank going on after what was most likely months of work. Like I said, AI art just has a very specific look to it.

But let's get to the nitty gritty: feeding the Vampire Hunter D art into the ai to replicate the style.

On the one hand, this is kind of what I think of when I think of AI being a tool to be used rather than an outright replacement of animators. And I think this is a good showcase of how amazing the technology can be. It looks amazing despite the hiccups.

And artists try to replicate art styles all the time. Hell, some people market themselves on their ability to replicate a certain show's look. I've seen people try to sell Hades style commissions, there's an artist who redraws screenshots of various anime as if they're an early cartoon network show, and don't get me started on Pokemon, Dragon Ball, and Sonic - the big three of style emulation.

BUT!!!

And yes, it's a big 'but'; that's not really what's happening.

I'm not smart enough to put what it does in my own words, but I'll do my best anyway: it's more-or-less a glorified trace job, with (ideally) hundreds of different pieces to work off of to generate a completely new image. Usually without the agreed upon consent of the artists.

I hate to throw around accusations like this, especially when I lazily and hungrily eat up this content like potato chips, but it really is art theft on a grand scale.

I still admire the technical skill that went into this. Even if 'anyone' can do it, there's still a lot of work that went into making this and getting something that's workable. But I don't blame people for calling Corridor Digital out on this when it's so damn blatant.

Now, I won't stop watching the video - like I said, I'm not someone with a real foot in this race, now do I wanna start some kind of revolution against or anything. It's just something to think about after seeing some backlash.

Now, the movie's out on YouTube. In fact, there are 3 different videos of this movie, dubbed.

And the movie came out roughly 23 years ago. This is NOT yanking it out of starving artists like many are claiming it is. It's practically collecting dust.

However, it's still blatantly robbing other artists who worked on this movie of their credit. But, again, they're using the ai to mimic a certain style and using their photos as a template to follow. But it's still using someone else's work as a reference. Speaking of, it's not like what I uploaded was a legit upload of the film - it's a pirated, uploaded without the rights holder's consent.

So...?

I don't know, I guess I can just kind of see both sides of the argument. I'm not here to tell you that the video is bad or that AI art is inherently bad or that AI generators need to be destroyed. And I'm not telling you that the video is completely and totally free of any shady practices. Personally, this all just feels morally gray to me and Corridor should've hired some concept artist to feed into the AI.

Just wanted to throw my thoughts out there.

A Fucking Gun

It's a fucking gun. The cost depends on the gun control laws in your country. It costs about £3 in most countries but it's like. A nickel in the US.

What does it do?

You can shoot people with it. When you buy the gun it comes with a set amount of bullets that you can use to shoot another blog. If you shoot a blog while the user isn't online, then your murder attempt fails and the blog has a bullet wound in it until the user goes onto their dash and treats it using a Tumblr Official Surgical Crab provided in emergencies like this.

However, if the user is online, then they will hear a loud bang and be shown a 3D-rendered cutscene which I will detail later. Their dash is covered in blood and will eventually fade to black. The blog is deactivated, and through that blog the user will only be able to browse Tumblr Purgatory, which is just normal Tumblr but only containing posts from deactivated accounts.

The other party involved is the victim's two or three best Mutuals who, along with the murderer will also see

The Cutscene

Everybody is portrayed by a random gender-nonspecific body with no visible skin, with their PFP floating in place of their head. It's rendered like an SFM animation

A dark alleyway sparely illuminated by yellow light streaming from second-floor windows, presumably the back of some public establishment. It's dusk, and the rain is heavy.

[Only The Murderer Sees This Part]

A silhouette falls over the entrance. The camera zooms towards it. The Murderer. View changes to over-the-shoulder as The Murderer walks calmly and confidently towards The Victim.

[The Murderer and The Victim See This Part]

Camera moves to in front of The Victim performing some random action. (Winding a cartoon alarm clock, studying a cool rock, pondering the orb, releasing a small frog from their person, etc.) The Murderer walks up to about two paces behind The Victim, and pulls out their Fucking Gun, which has an incredibly detailed and hyper-realistic model compared to the rest of the scene. That Click Noise Guns Make When You Draw Them is heard and The Murderer says a single line in a random TTS voice in a random language (There are subtitles in both that language and the viewer's language. They're something along the lines of 'Nothin' personnel, kid' or 'If only it didn't have to end this way' or 'check out this cool gun I have'). Gunshot, and The Victim is shot straight through the heart. They collapse on the floor.

[This Part is Seen By Everyone]

The camera cuts to a door at the back of the alleyway opening and The Mutuals run in. General expressions of exclamation and they run to The Victim's dying body. Dramatic last words are given by The Victim and they die. Despair from one of The Mutuals. A different member of The Mutuals looks up and points. Camera zooms in on the darkened figure of The Murderer, as they silently slip out of the alleyway. This is also the only indication given to The Mutuals as to who The Murderer was.

There would be less common variations on this, such as variants where The Victim only has 1 mutual, or no mutuals, the Vengeance Cutscene in which a user who was a Mutual in a previous Cutscene murders the original Murderer, and the Betrayal Cutscene where a person who would qualify as a Mutual is The Murderer.

Whichever Cutscene happens, The Mutuals then have to participate in an asynchronous co-operative puzzle game in which they learn the ropes of necromancy in order to bring The Victim back from the dead. Upon completion of the game, The Victim's blog returns to normal. Mostly. Depending on how well The Mutuals do in the game, The Victim may Come Back Wrong™, which involves applying random filters to their PFP, changing random characters in their URL and potentially turning their Checkmarks into horses. These changes would slowly wear off, The Victim's blog returning to normal after 48 hours online.

There would also be several other endings, including Eeby Deeby, which occurs if all of The Mutuals block The Victim during the course of the game. In this case, The Victim is sent to Eeby Deeby and deactivated for good. Sans Undertale appears if all of The Mutuals but one are shot during the game and Vriska Serket will appear if one of The Mutuals murders at least one other Mutual and seven others.

Alejandro has started a habit between he and Rudolpho: everytime they drive by/pass a stray cat they figure out what kind of name the cat seems like it would have. They'll explain why they think a name fits or one suggests something and the other either offers a counter-name or goes 'yeah that seems right.'

Soap tries to join in on the cat naming, but he always takes too long trying to come up with something. Alejandro thinks this is funny. Soap's never named a cat.

Price likes half-n-half lemonade ice tea. Ghost thinks it's an abomination.

Alejandro likes gryos and always goes crazy when they pass a place that makes them. If there's time to kill the others oblige and pull over, if not they sigh and make note of the location.

Gaz is wary of pigeons. Soap likes to throw fries to them from wherever they're eating, prompting Gaz to smack his arm lightly. Price agrees that they're getting too friendly.

Ghost likes learning about local legends from Alejandro and Rudy. They'll share especially when it's dark out or halfway through a long drive, with mouths full of food and interrupting each other to add their own little anecdotes/experiences. Alejandro is big on interrupting stories and finishing them.

Ghost in turn tells them about Spring-Heeled Jack, the Black Shuck, and other English myths. everybody listens with rapture- even Price finds it interesting. Ghost even gives dates and detailed incidents of sightings/witness accounts. Where does he learn these? No one knows. Soap thinks Ghost was just born with the knowledge.

Gaz loves Arab food, especially sweets. Farah introduced Price and him more recently to knafeh. During time off he'll find local Arab-run shops or restaurants for treats you won't find in a western store.

Ghost and Price exchange jokes, the same kind Soap found insufferable during his time being hunted by Graves. Despite them always drawing groans during downtime, they have an arsenal of silly, sometimes fucked up jokes. They help during times of stress.

Soap teaches Alejandro and Rudy Scottish slang and they forget it immediately. They bond over football and even play impromptu games when there's a moment to breathe. Soap is fearsome on the field, but Rudy's close behind.

Price is also interested in these games, but he'll yell from the sidelines and hype both sides up. No one knows who's side he's on, but he's definitely the coach.

Soap has a soft spot for the cartoons he'd watch as a kid. Being grown now and a soldier in the military, he doesn't have time to watch much of anything, but he recalls them fondly. Ghost pokes fun at this for being childish, but both he and Soap know warm memories are worth holding near.

Gaz doesn't like horses. He says they're always up to something.

DON'T startle Price or Ghost. There's fight or flight- they both fight. The second you pop out of trash bin or from behind a door, you're getting a solid set of knuckles to your face. The second they realize it's you they're apologetic, but of course, you know not to Fucking Do That.

When they were kids, Rudy's grandmother had a parrot that had a perch near the kitchen and otherwise free roam of the house. Alejandro taught her how to swear. Rudy's grandma found out and called them over, but Alejandro felt bad enough to blurt out that he had done it before she could even say anything.

Gaz likes the movie theater and always feels rotten smuggling candy in, but he's not paying the outrageous prices for stale M&Ms. Soap feels fine about it.

Price doesn't like McDonald's but he'll steal your fries. You won't even notice him doing it; he's that good.

@yelkniz - good point - anatomical breakdown time it is! I've done an analysis of all three generations and the most common problems based on my equine art-related nerdiness and the accurate anatomical drawings. It may be useful for spotting AI-generated anatomy drawings, or just inaccurate equine anatomy. Buckle up, and beware! There will be some real bones and anatomical models below.

First one:

The most characteristic part of all three drawings is that they're neither muscle schemes (écorché), nor skeletons. They are a weird mix of both, that may happen if the scheme shows deep musculature, or is a some sort of crossection, but this is not the case here.

The second thing that comes into play here is that the algorithm can't tell the tendons and other connective tissue from bone, because it's usually marked in white on muscle schemes. This is especially evident on lower legs, because they're like fingers - they practically don't have muscles, only tendons and connective tissue. The AI algorithm interprets as a uniform slab of bone, with occasional ridges. That's why it makes up bone divisions on lower legs. If you look at the pasterns on the above graphics, they are uniform, and directly above them there's a clear joint. It's neither a skeleton, nor écorché. In a similar manner, the connective tissue on the head may be interpretetd as bone peeking out from in-between muscles. In reality it practically doesn't happen.

The bony areas are usually connected by a layer of connective tissue bc they are often points to which the muscles are attached. You can feel the bone under the skin, but very rarely it's a raw bone sticking out of there with no interfacing tissue.

What's more? entirely circular muscles. Be careful about places in which there is a lot of different bones, they may get simplified - here the most blatant example is the neck.

there's just one long bone in there??? Almost all mammals, including horses and humans, have precisely 7 cervical vertebrae. In horses they create a neat S-like shape and viewed from the side look somewhat like a bike chain, with each vertebrae having links on both ends. If someone's trying to show you what looks like closely packed vertebrae, or a SINGULAR BONE in the neck area, something's definitely not right. There's also a neat example of how AI has melded the first thoracic vertebrae with the scapula, creating this weird, fin-like piece of bone.

Also, note the love for the cartoon bone shape, with rounded ends, even where it doesn't make much sense.

Next!

Look, I love drafts. I really do. But this is much, much too thick to be even the heaviest of drafts. Also the original generation was cropped, so forgive me the lack of the snout.

The scapula is better here, the reverse paddle shape is mostly right, but it's not 100% correct either.

The skull is an absolute mess, though. There are no visible molars, which are a signature trait of equine skulls and give them the characteristic and beloved sardonic parody of a smile. It does look like the jawbone was based not on an actual bone, but on cheek muscle, the other elements of jawline also look like muscle interpreted as bone.

Leg bones! Again the same issue - joint shape and placement guessed based on écorché scheme. Here instead of solid bone from fetlock to coronet we've got scribbly weirdness - a lot of different, pebble-like bones, where there should be virtually none. Also, don't get me wrong - there are preserved equine skeletons with hoof horn still attached, but the bones don't fill the entire silhouette of lower legs. The coronet is not a bone. Far from it, actually, if you strip the leg out of skin, connective tissue and hoof horn, the bones don't fill in the outline. Similarly how if You lose a nail, your finger isn't exactly the same shape and loses a lot of volume.

What else? Note the tibia in the right back leg ending in the middle of the leg, somehow. The ribcage also runs all the way to the back legs, and in horses there's a significant space between the end of the ribcage and the pelvis, otherwise they'd bang their knees on their ribs while running.

The AI strives to make the equine model look like a horse, so it will always have ears and it'll fit in what it perceives to be an equine outline, whether it makes sense or not. And in this case, it also got a weird bony brush of a tail. The upper pelvis also has a fan-like shape, which it doesn't have in reality.

Alright, the last one. it has a combination of the traits discussed before, just a different style - the way too many vertebreae in the neck, the muscular outline combined with bones sticking out everywhere, the made-up bones in the legs filling the outline suspiciously well are also a tell-tale sign it's AI.

The rule of thumb is that horses have really thin leg bones.

they run on toothpicks. If you see thick lower leg bones, question it.

what takes the cake here is the skull, which is easy to spot because skulls are the most evocative parts of any skeleton.

In the accurate skull, the upper molars stick outwards further than the lower ones - and they are not covered by the upper curve of the jawbone. The cheek part of the jawbone is also concave, to be filled in by the massive cheek muscle horses use to chew tough cellulose fibers. Here it again appears to be modeled after the appearance of the default horse picture - muscle and skin included. There's no defined cheek bone (angular bone under the eye) either.

Another problem is the nose opening - it should be bigger, and be placed higher. here the placement seems to be a stand-in for horse's nostrils. If You squint hard enough, you can see a mouth line in how the jaw bone is built.

What there should be instead, is the pincers-like structure of incisors and the gap in which the bit usually goes. You know, the part that's visible when a horse yawns.

equine eye socket is not uniformly round either if it's visible at an angle. The brow part and the back part of it sticks out a little more than the rest. If You've seen deer and cattle skulls, You know they're built similarly, because otherwise they wouldn't be able to look forward at all. The same thing happens with pelvis - the generator tries to interpolate the shape from the different angles and fails to do so. You can easily notice it completely omits the hook bone of the pelvis (the wing-like part that's jutting outwards in the front, completely invisible from the side), and while there is a round opening in the middle, there is no symmetry of the hip structures (pin bone etc) on the far side of it. And don't get me wrong. Pelvis is an extremely difficult structure! That's why you use 3D models and photos from various angles, because it's VERY EASY to get it wrong!

To wrap things up, making up things may work if you're just doing a simplified picture and you care about the effect more than about the accuracy. And while it may pay off in the regular art (I know I stylise and simplify skeletons for artistic effect),

Anatomy drawing is simply not the kind of drawing in which it is permissible.

It's THE specific kind of a drawing that's used for reference and education, which should be as accurate as possible and that's why one shouldn't use algorthytms that make the details up. It's like a technical drawing - you just can't make things up in it because it'll stop making sense, it's not the same as the artistic license. This kind of AI-generated drawings imitate the style, and to a degree the content of the actual anatomical drawings, but they are not the actual things and even if they can be printed as posters for 'aestetics' people learn what they see, and what they see here is as accurate as a haloween decoration, except haloween decorations don't try to imitate an actual anatomical help.

I have unwittingly witnessed a new level of the absurd. Behold, the AI-generated equine anatomy models.

Ah yes, my favourite parts of the equine body. Paster and... *looks at the smudged writing on hand* boob. At least this one looks purely decorative and the being actually looks like a horse. But don't worry, it gets worse.

If we completely ignore the hipopotamus musculature of this one, there's still a lot of things that don't make sense in this one, like a tail that ends in a series of bone spikes and a complete lack of molars. You could make a cool pokemon on the basis of this, but it's not even in the realm of being an actual anatomy help.

I'm firmly convinced this is not a horse, this is something that really, really wants you to think it is a horse. The more you look, the more things look... wrong. The more details turn out to be shifted, bones crammed in to fill in the familiar form, its shape merely implied so that the human mind fills the gap. Of course the text seems like gibberish, because its anatomy is incomprehensible. it's either a parasite or a monster and in each case, it's an eldtrich body horror. I'm kind of angry at how well this joke writes itself.
