Hi, I haven't drawn anything in a while.

Um.

I got possessed by an idea, so here, fake splash screen/cover for a hypothetical "Bass & Piano" game.

I visualize it as kind of a co-op thing where Piano can solve puzzles and work on machines/open doors while Bass does more of the combat-heavy stuff (also if he needs fixing she's there to help him with upgrades).

What's the plot? Who can guess but I have the feeling Wily fucked something up again and they're going to fix it (or kick his ass).

It makes me really sad when I hear people say they could never learn something. It might take longer than most people but I do genuinely think anyone could learn anything.

#i understand that sometimes the juice is not worth the squeeze #you could learn to do ballet and maybe you would never be a master at it and maybe you would hate it but you could #you could decide to get good at math or learn to play piano or how to ride a bike or draw or sing or a new language #you could get really entrenched in an era of history or some form of biology or chemistry #you could! you have an infinite capacity to grow!!#it feels like giving up on yourself and that's sad.

new piano cover, this time of School Forest from PSMD, and featuring new art that i drew for the occasion (this took like a whole dang week)!! the early game dungeon themes are absolutely amazing, and this one is no exception. it has such a playful and nostalgic vibe that i really like!

i started learning this by ear around the start of the year, but only recently did i record myself playing it with no (major) mistakes! i'm pretty proud of the result.

also, covers from now on are recorded on my home piano, so if you noticed a difference in piano quality from the partner's theme cover, it's not your imagination. and yes that is my clock ticking at the start and end…consider it a part of the performance lol

#‘print out blank sheets’ our printer is evil #’use musescore or whatever’ ok but i already know how to use drawing apps and i don’t feel like learning how to use a new thing #i’m bad and slow at this anyway so like. only one poison at a time #plus then i can easily rearrange sections or remove them without actually deleting them just by playing with layers #’look for a pre-existing arrangement online’ well you see they don’t make those for people with no friends and who suck at piano #if i want something that’s two-hands friendly (and two clumsy hands at that) i gotta do it myself #peach rambles #i can read music but i’m very rusty when it comes to a lot of the notations or how to actually write it

[TUVOKTOBER: Day 9] Ballet with the Captain.

#Tuvok #bea art tag #tuvoktober #Janeway would love doing a ballet recital if there was significant lore in the holonovel about the stakes and so forth #Tuvok does not want to do a ballet recital. He does not see how this is enjoyable.#Janeway canonically took dance lessons as a kid and Tuvok just seems like he would have too.#They were both forced to take piano (or its equivalent) and dance - and they both hated it at the time #But Tuvok stuck with lute & Janeway quit both to go on to other hobbies (she had/has a lot)#<- gets bored a bit easily and likes the excitement of a new challenge #Janeway...ok. I think she would make her romantic interest in this holonovel be:#A brilliant but sort of dismissive reporter who's an amazing writer but gets stuck doing pieces he has no passion for. And she draws his ey #bc she's so good at dancing and they have flirty banter where she shows him how dancing isn't boring or dumb and you KNOW she's putting in #scene where she like makes him dance in the rain or something. And he's graying despite only being a few years older.#The holonovel ends with him appreciating dance and writing an amazing article about the performance which she reads after #some sort of misunderstanding only to realize gasp! He really DID love her! So- wouldn't it be cool if dragon tamers kept their nails long, in a claw-like shape, to be closer to their dragon pokèmon while they train? See it as the tamers trying to establish a connection through similarities with a feature usually common in dragons (and obtainable by humans).

And following that- pianists usually need to keep their nails short to have a better range of movement on the keys right? Since nails easily bump or get caught into them especially when you're playing more complex pieces.

What I'm getting at-.. what if Hassel used to have long, claw-like nails but cut them short the moment he decided to leave the tamer life to pursue his musician dream? Not only to play at the best of his abilities but to also symbolically cut off his old life/family ties to make room for who he truly wanted to become.

And listen- I also just love the image of DragonTamer!Hassel laying his hand atop the piano keys in a moment of reflection, his eyes darting between one and the other.

He is weighting his possibilities and what there is to lose and to gain if he was to run away or stay.

But then one of his clawed fingers presses down a tiny bit too hard and a note escapes the piano, clearing his mind from any doubt.

The Dragon Tamer cannot stay. The claws have to go.

#currently having one of those shits you have to get naked for #curled over the toilet and yelling as quietly as possible #hopefully whatever this is is out of my system before i have to go to lessons tomorrow #would hate to have to call off #i've been pretty consistent about my practice and would like to actually get good at it #also excited to go out for a latte tomorrow and put the lavender flowers i just bought in it. they smell super pungent so should be good #would also like to write or draw sometime soon #have mostly just been playing videogames with my SO when they're home and various homemaking stuff or piano practice when they're not #we desperately need to move out of here which means i need a job which aaaaaaa #i have desperately fucking needed this break after how that place was treating me #hoping to get a work from home job again to make moving easier #also would like to not burn through my entire savings but ey whaddaya gonna do sometimes ya know?#between med bills student loans keeping gas in my car groceries car insurance and whatever the fuck else life throws my way #my decently sized savings will likely dwindle fast #my partner is currently covering my car insurance but like. i pay significantly more than that amount for our shared groceries #maybe double or triple the monthly cost of my car insurance #and they have like 0 bills except the amount taken out paycheckly to have health insurance #hate ever even suggesting to take up more of the load tho #just awkward to talk about #in any event #here's to hoping for a decent wfh job. it's much easier to take care of the home and myself with wfh.

*crumbles into dust after finishing this* Thank you for reading! This The Hobbit webcomic adaptation thing takes a lot of effort to put together and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate every comment. I also really appreciate the people who’ve spread the word of this comic to their friends! <3

And finally, we’re at the Song of the Lonely Mountain! Within Tolkien’s canon, The Hobbit is an in-universe book that was “written” by Bilbo Baggins, who occasionally lies/embellishes/exaggerates things. The tonal differences between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings are explained by Bilbo and Frodo/Sam being different kinds of storytellers, with different relationships to “the truth.” This idea is the core of how I’m adapting the novel! Bilbo is an unreliable narrator who is literally ‘drawing’ from his own limited experiences; the different art styles reflect the different perspectives of other characters. The “dwarf art style” in this chapter is inspired by stonework/metalwork in general— but especially by a mix of art deco, Celtic art, and European folk art.

The central tension of the comic is between Bilbo and Thorin, who each have wildly different ideas about what kind of story they’re in. Thorin is in a grand fantasy epic, while Bilbo is in a lighthearted children’s book adventure. The tragedy is, obviously, that only one side of the story ever gets to be fully told.

On a sillier note, a few years ago I had my first gay crush on a lesbian who sang while playing the piano. This chapter is dedicated to the piano lesbian. I hope they’re doing well, wherever they are. XD

I think I might need a bit of a break but I’m hoping for the next chapter, titled “Dawn,” to arrive on January 13th. And your comments/support really do help motivate me to get more done! ^_^
