it’s always when I have things to be doing that this happens but it’s like. I don’t know I’ve gone so far into weird love territory and I’ve been here so long that when I go back and really look at canon it’s like it’s new to me. because like do you ever think about how hanzawa masato just sort of DECIDED that tashiro would be the next captain of the ping pong club. like it wasn’t a recommendation or anything that decision was made. and absolutely if tashiro genuinely GENUINELY didn’t want to do it nothing bad would have really happened, someone else could have done it, sure. you know? but at the end of the day tashiro, in the midst of his running away, had that thought, like. not in a thought bubble but in a b Hold on
Tumblr media
in the narration box. like it’s not a fleeting in-the-moment thought like the whole poor shmuck thing. I’m not explaining this well. it’s just you get the impression that tashiro thinks about things a lot and also tangentially kind of thinks about his hanzawa senpai a lot and that realization of burden is so significant to tashiro that he takes on the position of captain
Tumblr media
and he doesn’t look him in the face when he does it, and I love it. I love when things are indirect and subtle and sort of reluctant because it’s human and speaks to sincerity and tashiro’s grounded…ness that he isn’t unflinchingly happy to do it. he still doesn’t really want to do it. but he will. and he’ll do it WELL. because and this so matters hanzawa masato just sort of DECIDED that tashiro would be the next captain of the ping pong club because he knows tashiro and has been watching tashiro as a fun kouhai who he likes a lot and who makes him laugh like literally no one else in the world, and he knows that he would be a good president because he is, amongst other relevant things, a good person. the right kind of good person! he wouldn’t have forced tashiro to do it because frankly he couldn’t REALLY force tashiro to do it, tashiro has a way of getting around things (pudding head….) but he decided tashiro would be captain, because he knows tashiro, and tashiro decided to take that on, because he sees hanzawa. he decided that tashiro would be captain, and tashiro decided to accept that decision because hanzawa decided correctly.
and tashiro cares, and encourages his senpai to rest, and we get the FUCKING.
Tumblr media
that just speaks VOLUMES. hanzawa masato who notoriously stays busy for at least one of two known reasons that sound a little contradictory but aren’t actually is resting right now. hanzawa masato who is so weird and so unknowable to his juniors is wearing a small smile that, unlike so many of his other ones (ominous as they are, usually), shows for only contentment. he’s resting right now. like the tashiro gonzaburou hanzawa masato dynamic IS so weird I’m not delusional for that. but my favorite thing that I think I do a really bad job of showing is that their exchanges go back and forth and are so much fun for the both of them, and it’s exactly like PING PONG. well matched and silly and hanzawa masato knows tashiro gonzaburou and if tashiro gonzaburou doesn’t know hanzawa masato he sure as hell sees him, and wants to know him, just a little at least, and it’s all so much. I’m resting right now. fuck. anyway
#bangs fist on the floor. is on the floor.#hanzawa to tashiro#hanzashiro#and really the fact that tashiro is hiding around the corner to hear the milk tea exchange with miyano. and then brings him some#ASSUMING HE DIDN’T ALREADY KNOW. it’s just like. i wish i was more comfortable writing tashiro he’s so much to me#silly little guy for sure. but intentionally taking on a burden for someone else when it’s explicitly something he doesn’t want to do#(or maybe just something he felt he wasn’t qualified to do. depends. probably both)#and doing well at it. the person hanzawa masato is trusting in the most.#just. someone who doesn’t want to be responsible but will be and someone who old people LOVE and someone who accepts things without judgment#and someone who will hide in a box on the floor to hide from his senpai and just as well walk right up to him and hide his face#and accept the trust masato was putting in him.#like this of all things isn’t really a burden to masato because he’s. he’s RESTING right now. of all the pies he has fingers in#this might actually be his favorite. for a number of reasons that are mostly speculative#but it’s SYMBOLIC of a burden. am i making any sense at all. i might not be#masato is giving this one away because it’s not really a burden to him exactly. but tashiro is taking it because he feels it’s a burden but.#how do i say this. it’s not a burden to masato but it IS a weight on his shoulders whether he realizes it or not#and tashiro takes it from him—not unreluctantly—because he cares. because he wants masato to rest.#i think talking this long is manifesting a tin cap on my head. i should go#dirtbrain digression#tldr it IS weird love. but just not AS weird or the KIND of weird that i’d have it be. haaaah i’m sick

YKZ | Love Languages | VARIOUS
Tumblr media
What are their love languages?
Tumblr media
Characters: Masato Aizawa, Akira Nishikiyama(x2), Reina, Osamu Kashiwagi, Kaoru Sayama, Kazuma Kiryu, Goro Majima, Taiga Saejima, Shun Akiyama | GN! Reader
Rating: GEN (Briefly suggestive in a couple but nothing serious)
A/N: I got requests for Reina, Saejima and Majima and like I said, I really wanted to do this anyway. So, I just made a roster post out of it. Personally, I’m of the belief that most people have multiple love languages. It’s just that they tend to favor one over others. Hence why I categorized things the way I did. Anyway, one of my love languages is including the faves of some of my friends/mutuals in my posts. 🫶🏾 So, enjoy!
Tumblr media
MASATO AIZAWA
Most Likely to Respond Positively to Receiving:  Physical Touch. He’s affectionate with loved ones by nature. It was how he was shown love by the people who raised him and it never left him. There’s honestly too much to appreciate about being close to his partner– holding them, caressing them, that Aizawa simply cannot go without for too long. He craves the warmth of their skin against his own, the texture of it or the fabrics of their clothes, that slight vibration in the throat and chest when they speak, their scent…
Most Likely to Offer: Physical Touch. He’s never been someone that had a way with words. Sure, he can communicate whatever message he needs to get across but he’d much rather show than tell. His partner can feel how much he loves, cares and even respects them through the tenderness of his touch. He’s delicate with them when he’s brash toward everything else in the world. They can know how much he needs them from the linger of his gaze, hugs, caresses and kisses. He can show them how much he desires them from the passion of his kisses and stroke. In truth, he’s not only just affectionate with partners. He shows a friendly affection toward most people he cares about like, friends and family by greeting them with hugs, ruffling their hair when he’s being cheeky, draping an arm around their shoulder as he stands next to them and more. If anyone ever wonders how Aizawa feels about them, they should look no further than how often he invades their personal space or if not that, how gentle he is when he does.
Least Likely to Respond to: Receiving gifts. It’s not even that he wouldn’t appreciate it, he absolutely does. There’s just not much that he ever truly wants and needs outside of necessities. So, there’s not much he would ask for that he feels he couldn’t just get himself. The burden of having little treats for himself is his alone.
Tumblr media
AKIRA NISHIKIYAMA (K)
Most Likely to Respond Positively to Receiving:  Physical Touch. He’s probably the most touch starved he’s ever been in his life around this point. Most days, he walks around with his jaws clenched and shoulders tensed. He’s often repulsed when he’s touched by those he has no favor toward but once he’s under the loving caress of the one he adores, every muscle in his body relaxes from top to bottom. He doesn’t even realize how unbelievably wound up he is until he’s practically deflating in their arms. Initially, he’d find someone like that dangerous and consider letting them go, not wanting this ability to disarm him become a liability.. But once he experiences that, he’d start to crave it before too long.
Mostly Likely to Offer: Quality Time. He doesn’t have a lot of free time, but he will make his loved ones fit into his schedule somehow. It doesn’t really matter how he goes about it either, be it enjoying the comfort of home with them or dragging them along as he handles his… more palatable business. For him, quality time and that physical touch go hand in hand. He can’t spend time with them without feeling them near him and he is hesitant to part with them once it’s over.
Least Likely to Respond to: Words of Affirmation. He’s too distrusting to believe just about anything anyone says to him. He counts on people discounting his ability to read between the lines and underestimate him. He’s lost track of how many times he’s heard one story then witnessed the opposite from the very same pair of lips. It’s why he monitors a person to determine what they mean instead; their tone of voice, their body language, the ability to hold his sharp, piercing gaze. His partner can say whatever they want but he’ll be the one to determine what’s true and what’s not.
Tumblr media
AKIRA NISHIKIYAMA (Y0)
Most Likely to Respond Positively to Receiving:  Words of Affirmation. He may minimize or dismiss what’s being said sometimes but it’s only because he doesn’t always believe that he’s loved, that he’s attractive, that he’s appreciated, that he’s admired. While he may roll his eyes, laugh and push out, “Psh,” outwardly, know that inside, his heart is doing somersaults and blast beats beneath his rib cage. While he emotionally benefits from praise from outsiders, not much hits quite like being praised and uplifted by the person he knows actually loves him and isn’t trying to get anything out of him.
Most Likely to Offer: Quality time. One may think that this would have been gift giving, but at this point, the majority of his gifting is spearheaded by either obligation or intent to display means. There is often little thought behind a bulk of those purchases. In his mind, a gift's worth is based on its monetary value rather than the quality and what it means for the other person. It’s completely vapid, devoid of deliberate consideration. It’s a way for him to win– be it favor, respect, and/or admiration. Looking at gifts that he gives as an indicator of what he feels for someone is a losing battle. What isn’t though, is noting how often he makes time and space for his partner no matter what he’s got going on. He never lets too much time pass between dates. He often invites his partner to tag along as he goes about his day just because things feel so much easier when in their presence. Whether it’s shopping, cruising around town, washing his car or asking them to be his plus one at social events, Nishiki enjoys being able to look to his side and see their smiling faces.
Least Likely to Respond to: Receiving gifts. Unless it’s something that is of sentimental value, he tends to feel a tad awkward when he’s on the receiving end of a gift. If his partner is intending to purchase something for him, they might wanna make sure they’ve got a good eye for his tastes first. He’s very particular about what he likes and he’s pickier than most. He never leaves himself wanting for long. So, even if there’s something out there that he desires, he tends to just get it himself and that often just makes him difficult to shop for.
Tumblr media
REINA
Most Likely to Respond Positively to Receiving: Quality Time. She loves to spend time with those that she loves. She never tires of seeing her loved ones’ faces! When her partner takes the initiative to make time for her, she will take notice. They don’t need to do anything fancy. Sometimes being alone together is more than enough to make her feel cared for. A perfect evening for her could be as simple as looking up in the vanity mirror as she’s painting her nails and seeing her lover in the background occupying themselves with something.
Mostly Likely to Offer: Acts of Service. It could have a lot to do with her upbringing where she was shown love by acts of service from her parents rather than them outwardly vocalizing it. Picking up the errands her partner dislikes, making them soup and fresh tea when they’re not feeling well or even cooking their favorite dishes to cheer them up and celebrate wins despite her not enjoying the act of cooking are but a few examples! Knowing that those things will bring a smile to her partner’s face makes it all worth it in the end.
Least Likely to Respond to: Words of Affirmation. To her, words are insultingly cheap when the person’s actions don’t back it up. She hears all types of flattery day in and day out and she’ll be the first to let someone know that it will get them absolutely nowhere. She might appreciate some kind words here and there but it’s a turn off when someone lays it on kinda thick.
Tumblr media
OSAMU KASHIWAGI
Most Likely to Respond Positively to Receiving:  Acts of Service. ‘I love you’, ‘I care about you’, ‘I worry about you’, ‘I need you’, and ‘I want you’ are phrases that do not often find themselves in his vocabulary. He’s very old fashioned in the way he shows his affection toward someone (when it’s not blatantly written on his face). He appreciates when he hardly has to pick up around the house because his partner wants him to relax.
Mostly Likely to Offer: Acts of Service. He’s not really all that sure of other ways he can show his love than by, well, showing it. He’s a very observant man– probably more observant than most. It’s because of that, that he’s often able to tell whether someone actually means well or if they’re simply going through the motions. He never wants anyone putting themselves out for his sake. If he sees that his partner isn’t doing something for him out of obligation, rather than because they simply want to take it off his hands, he will never hesitate to repay them in kind. He almost automatically takes the responsibility of head of household, and he’ll take it seriously. So often, he could be drowning but his partner wouldn’t hear a word about it because he doesn’t want them to worry. He will ensure they’ve had no less than three meals a day and surprise them with snacks when he thinks they could use a little pick-me-up.
Least Likely to Respond to: Words of Affirmation. There aren’t many ways in this world that make Kashiwagi feel flustered or embarrassed but there are a couple and they fall under the ‘direct proclamations of love’ category. He’s not one to fix his mouth to say the words and if he does feel the need to say something, it’s about as indirect as it could possibly get. He’d very much be a ‘tsuki ga kirei desu ne’ type of man and he prefers his partner understands that. Otherwise, there shall be some awkwardness afoot.
Tumblr media
KAORU SAYAMA
Most Likely to Respond Positively to Receiving:  Acts of Service. So often, she feels she needs to carry the world on her shoulders because she knows that she's all she’s got . She takes care of herself. She has no qualms with doing so. She doesn’t need anyone else to take care of things for her… But, she’d be lying if she said she wouldn’t feel the relief when someone comes in and carries the load themselves without her so much as having to ask. She loves someone that can basically say, ‘While I know that you can do it, I’d like to do it for you.’ with their actions.
Mostly Likely to Offer: Physical Touch. She may have a hard exterior but it’s a layer she sheds very easily when she's beneath the touch of the right person. She can’t be touched by JUST anyone. She’s had coworkers who felt the need to squeeze her shoulders or touch her waist when they pass by and she physically recoils. In fact, she nearly broke someone’s wrist when pinning it behind their back because they were too ‘friendly’ with her. She’s called frigid. Folks assume that if she ever winds up with someone, that person would be marred by her fangs. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. The person she loves has a way of melting down her icy barrier. Even when she’s being smothered, it somehow doesn’t feel like enough. Just… don’t expect her to explain/say any of that.
Least Likely to Respond to: Word of Affirmation. She feels that if someone acts with intent, there’s not really much need for words. Show, don’t tell is practically her motto when it comes to romance. Nothing kills her interest in someone faster than a bunch of empty words and promises.
Tumblr media
KAZUMA KIRYU
Most Likely to Respond Positively to Receiving:  Physical Touch. If he ever sat and thought about it, he’d realize that the majority of the physicality he’s ever experienced in his life has been physical violence. Most people wouldn’t have experienced even a fraction of what he has. It’s sort of sad. He’s not very… in tune with his innermost desires. He’s not very honest about what he wants, whether it’s because he believes that he’s just not deserving of it or just that it’s a little embarrassing to admit, even to himself. That said, deep down? There’s a craving to have a pair of loving hands on him. He aches for that tenderness. So often, he finds that when he’s actually with someone, the time he feels most fulfilled physically is not when they’re touching him with lust but rather when they reach for him in comfort.
Mostly Likely to Offer: Acts of Service. There’s not much in this world that he wouldn’t do for those that he loves. Sure, he often makes questionable choices but his intentions are always in the right place. He would do for his partner before he’d do for himself. He would put himself in difficult, uncomfortable situations if it means he’s able to help his loved one go through their days with ease. He’s not someone who has to be told what needs to be done but if he is told, he doesn’t really need to be told twice before it’s handled.
Least Likely to Respond to: Words of Affirmation. He’s not against hearing his partner out as they affirm him. He’s just not always sure how to respond to it. In instances where he’s rallying the troops, he’s got more than a few powerful speeches in his arsenal but he doesn’t plan them. He gets by by sheer passion while he’s internally waffling. He may spit out a simple, ‘Thank you’ after his partner tells him they love him and accidentally hurt them in the process. Being that vulnerable with a partner is infinitely more difficult than he’s emotionally equipped to handle.
Tumblr media
GORO MAJIMA
Most Likely to Respond Positively to Receiving: Physical Touch. Touch starved doesn’t even begin to explain what he’s got going on. He can probably count on one hand how many people he trusts enough to get close enough to him, let alone touch him. His case is a lot like the previous in that he’s experienced more physical violence than affection. In his case though, he knows what he wants or even, sometimes needs. It's just a matter of who is capable of disarming him well enough to fill that void. When he's got the ‘who’ sorted, he has no shame in asking for what he needs. He may be a little playful in the delivery but it’s not really a joking matter.
Mostly Likely to Offer: Physical Touch. There aren’t many instances where he exhibits his capacity for tenderness but reaching for the cheek of his loved one is one of them. Observing him with others then witnessing him show his ability to be warm, kind and gentle can be a little disorienting for those that believe everything that they see. He has a desire to be the beacon of safety in his partner’s eyes. He’s failed at that before and he shut himself out from opportunities to try again. It takes him reopening himself up, lowering his walls and trusting himself to be capable of not making the same mistakes twice. When the gloves come off, he wants his partner to know there’s no need to fear his touch.
Least Likely to Respond to: Words of Affirmation. Perhaps it’s because he spends so much of his day going around spouting bullshit for the sake of spouting bullshit that lots of things have little to no effect on him. He’s capable of confessing his love and he’s capable of accepting his partner professing their love but his partner would know from the way he treats them, long before the words come out of his mouth. He’d appreciate it if this was mutual.
Tumblr media
TAIGA SAEJIMA
Most Likely to Respond Positively to Receiving: Quality Time. He’s lost a lot of time and so he’s someone that makes sure to treasure every second that he gets whether he’s alone or he’s with the people he cares about. If his partner makes it a priority to share their time with him, no matter how much or how little, it doesn’t go unnoticed and he is sure to appreciate it.
Mostly Likely to Offer: Words of Affirmation. He’s not a man of very many words. He’s someone who tries to speak with intent. He feels one can get more out of listening and observing than speaking a lot of the time. That said, when he does open his mouth, it’s because he’s got something that he feels is worthwhile. He doesn’t like to go through his life regretting that he didn’t say the things he should have said when presented with an opportunity. Again, he’s lost too much time and he’s lost one too many people not to. When he does affirm his partner, he tends to leave an impact.
Least Likely to Respond to: Receiving Gifts. He lost his sense of materialism ages ago. He doesn’t usually care about things. He doesn't want anyone wasting their yen on him, especially when he knows that sometimes, one wrong move and he can lose everything. After having to start from zero more than once, he’s simply relinquished his attachment to material goods. However, he does hold a deep appreciation for things that are homemade especially for him. It’s practically a different story.
Tumblr media
SHUN AKIYAMA
Most Likely to Respond Positively to Receiving: Acts of Service. Not to kick the man for being a lazy bag of bones but, he’s a biiiit of a slouch and often finds that he cannot be bothered to lift much in the way of a finger. When he’s with someone that does all the less than glamorous work for him, he takes notice. He might be a little cheeky when he speaks up to acknowledge it but his appreciation is genuine. He tries to remind himself to repay them in kind.
Mostly Likely to Offer: Giving Gifts. While he’s not always the one to pick the gift personally, the idea to get something for his partner was his own. That’s gotta count for something, right? He doesn’t always trust himself to get something that his partner will like, even when he knows them like the back of his hand. It’s a damn shame too, because getting to see the reaction they give is like a little gift for himself. If he has taken the initiative and picked the gift, he’s almost a little anxious when he’s handing it off. Seeing them react positively to a gift he’s chosen for them does a little something to his mind that he’s not able to explain. It leaves him wondering why he doesn’t trust his judgment more often. When it’s time for another, he’s back to pawning the responsibility back onto Hana as if he’s learned nothing.
Least Likely to Respond to: Quality Time. He understands that a lot of relationships require time to nurture but the truth is, he sort of enjoys his solitude now. He enjoys it to the point of being almost neglectful. He realizes he’s got that selfish streak in him and he won’t resolve it until he’s ready to do so.

TV Guide Dan Vol.50, January 2024 Issue ft. Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger Cast Members Sakai Taisei x Masato Yano Interview (translations below)
Publication: January 26, 2024
"Please introduce the character the other is playing in Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger."
Sakai: Yano-san plays Racules Husty, the big brother of Gira Husty, who I play. At first, we were led to believe that he was a bad guy who hurt his citizens, but unknown to Gira, he was carrying a huge burden on his shoulders, and was deliberately behaving in a way that made him look like that. Gira may have lost his childhood memories, but I think he respected Racules in those days, and even now is of great importance to Gira.
Yano: Gira is the younger brother of Racules, but at the same time, he's a mysterious being. Somehow, he can communicate with the Shugods…For the rest of the story, it felt like he was moving forward with innocence, but gradually, he gained leadership, moved the hearts of those around him, and became the driving force for the previously broken up Royal Sentai to become one. Furthermore, he's also been gaining more and more dignity as the new king, and now he and Racules have resolved their differences and are fighting together.
"Outside of your roles as brothers, what's the relationship between you two like?"
Yano: (with a solemn expression) We normally don't get along very well.
Sakai: (with a straight face) We fight alot.
Sakai & Yano: (laughs).
Yano: No, we're just joking. That's not the case at all.
Sakai: Yano-san takes very good care of me. He cares about me, asking, "Are you eating properly?," and also gives me advice on acting.
Yano: I'm not offering anything major. I just say, "Here's what I'm doing."
Sakai: For example, in running scenes, Yano-san breathes loudly with, "Haa, haa" to make the sound easier to pick up. Since Gira has many running scenes, I try to incorporate this in my own way.
Yano: I believe that each actor has their own way of creating emotion, so I often talk about the technical aspects. For example, it's better not to blink during important scenes, as it could distract the viewers. If there's no dialogue in a scene where you're close to a character's face, I'd suggest that you express your feelings by clenching your teeth or swallowing saliva.
Sakai: He teaches me these things in a way that's easy to understand. Furthermore, Yano-san has so many variations to his performance! He's always been a great help.
"Speaking of, what do you usually call each other?"
Sakai: I call him "Aniki."
Yano:…You've never called me that once though.
Sakai: Ahaha! Just now, I got scared~.
Yano: I immediately started thinking about the best way to respond to your joke.
Sakai: Actually, it's "Yano-san."
Yano: For me, it's "Sakai". Sometimes I call him "Taisei." Like when we go out to eat.
Sakai: It makes me happy to be called Taisei by Yano-san. From now on, I want you to call me Taisei!
Yano: You prefer Taisei?
Sakai: Yeah, but Sakai is fine too. I've been called that since I worked together with Yano-san in the drama "Shinyu wa Akujo."
Yano: Everyone called him Taisei, but I intentionally chose Sakai.
Sakai: Eh? Was it to make me feel special?! I'm so happy~!
Yano: Well…that's right! (laughs). What does Ikeda Masashi call you by?
Sakai: You mean by everyone?
Yano: Why'd you respond like that? (laughs). Sakai is like this, and sometimes I can't get through to him. The other day he asked, "What did you eat for dinner?" and when I answered, about 3 minutes later, he asked me the same question again.
Sakai: I wanted him to respond with, "How many times have you asked that?!" (*he wanted to do a bit with Yano)
Yano: Absolutely not. I could tell by your face. Sakai has a different kind of expression when he's like that.
Sakai: Eh? So you can understand such subtle changes! Yano-san is the mood maker on set. When he's on standby in front of the cameras for a monologue scene, he makes strange faces right up until the actual performance (laughs).
Yano: Hey, hey, that makes it seem like I don't take my job seriously! Well, it is true that I make strange faces (laughs).
"We've heard from your co stars that Yano-kun is lonely, and that he posts the most in the King-Ohger cast's group LINE…"
Yano: It's a misunderstanding. There's a reason for that. It's a common occurrence among actors, but even if you create a group LINE with your co stars, after filming begins or after some time passes, no one says anything. I don't like it, so I post frequently, but no one ever responds…
Sakai: I often have trouble speaking up because I'm too considerate of my seniors.
Yano: Sakai doesn't really say anything. Rather, he doesn't return private LINE messages.
Sakai: That's not true. I reply as soon as I see them!
Yano: You didn't reply the other day.
Sakai: I might've been working.
Yano: Let's just leave it at that (laughs).
"Since you play brothers in this work, we'd like to ask what kind of household chores you'd share if the two of you were to live together."
Sakai: Leave the toilet and bathtub cleaning to me!
Yano: Are you good at it?
Sakai: I'm the type of person who makes things beautiful when my "switch" is turned on. However, folding clothes and vacuuming…I don't feel like doing that.
Yano: Well then, guess I'll do it.
Sakai: Please also take care of the cooking!
Yano: How strange! (laughs). Because, Sakai, you have a rice cooker at your house, and yet you eat precooked rice packs, right?
Sakai: Cooking rice is a pain…
Yano: I really don't understand that feeling.
Sakai: Everything depends on my mood (laughs). If I feel like cooking rice, I'll cook it.
Yano: So, on days when Sakai feels like it and cooks rice for me, I'll have to say "Thank you~!" out of consideration. How annoying~ (laughs).
"(laughs). In the future, if you were to work together again as actors, what kind of production would you like to work on?"
Sakai: I'd like to play a yakuza role.
Yano: I see. Your role would be something like, "Even though his face is cute, his face is calm when he kills," does that sound good?
Sakai: That's good!
Yano: Well then, I'll play the role of the detective who hunts him down. There was a drama like that, right? It was…"Informa," featuring Morita Go-san and Kiritani Kenta-san!
Sakai: Ah!
Yano: Sakai would be in Kiritani-san's position in that drama. Or, I'll be in Kiritani-san's position and Sakai will be in Yokohama Ryusei-san's position.
Sakai: That's really good!
Yano: Personally, I'm looking forward to it. What kind of work will Sakai first appear in after he graduates from King-Ohger? I think it's really important to make that first step. What kind of production do you want to be in?
Sakai: I have almost no experience in acting, so I'd like to play any kind of role.
Yano: Then, if you had to choose between comedy, romance, or serious, which one would you prefer?
Sakai: Are they genres I can do? In that case, I'll do it.
Yano: No, don't just say "I'll do it." I just gave you choices.
Sakai: I see, my bad (laughs). If I had to pick, I'd like to do a serious one. Also, comedy.
Yano: You chose two (laughs). And they're completely opposite genres.
Sakai: I'm greedy (laughs).

Note
i personally think jo wouldve just insisted they left masato there and would try to make the argument that its too late for him and even if he DID save masato i dont think he wouldve been half as supportive of him and his condition as arakawa was. like,, i think the only thing that made him okay with it in the game is the fact that he was able to see that it wasn't treated as a burden to arakawa whereas it definitely wouldve been to jo had he'd been the one raising masato
not sure if ANY of that made sense but gfhdsgfd
NAW I HEAR YOU the most important thing to remember is how differently jo behaves compared to when he was a teenager versus when he reunites with masato
what made jo care so intensely about masato wasn't that he understood he was doing fine after The Incident or that he was in good hands. it was the fact that jo bore first-witness to how much the incident did affect masato- that was when jo really had a change of heart and decided to dedicate everything to making ammends
jo did attempt to 'reason' with ikumi and say that what they did had already been done and there was no point in reversing the situation, so i dont think that alone would have fully stopped ikumi from trying something
moreover i definitely don't think jo would have cared for masato as intensely if he was given the chance to raise him from day one. at the same time, it's really hard for me to imagine how he would've gone about the whole situation if it came to that..

October — A Passionate Cadenza
Tumblr media
It’s October. I’m very excited because a school festival will be held at the academy at the end of the month.
Masato Hijirikawa: What to do, what to do…
Haruka Nanami: ??? Is something wrong?
Masato Hijirikawa: Ah, Tsukimiya-sensei has asked me to decide what our class will be doing for the school festival, but I haven't quite come up with a good idea yet.
Haruka Nanami: I see. How about…
Select the Phrase!
Tumblr media
ライブとか... Something like a show…? (+10 Love, +10 Music)
Masato Hijirikawa: A live show, you say… It’s not a bad idea, but if we do a live show with everyone in our lass, the song selection will be…
Haruka Nanami: Ah… that’s right. And we can't possibly sing with everyone at once either, can we…
Masato Hijirikawa: It's not that it would not be possible, but on top of the fact everyone in class is very picky about their music, our preferences are too varied. Picking a song seems like it would take a very long time.
Tumblr media
お化け屋敷. A haunted house? (+5 Love +0 Music)
Masato Hijirikawa: Well, it certainly is a classic, but preparing it seems very time-consuming.
Masato Hijirikawa: Not to mention that since we're in a performing arts school, I'd prefer to think about something that can be done on stage.
Tumblr media
占いの館. A fortune-telling hall? (+20 Love, +5 Music)
Masato Hijirikawa: Fortune-telling…?
Haruka Nanami: Yes! I might not look it, but I'm good at fortune-telling using Tarot.
Masato Hijirikawa: Uh… huh…
Haruka Nanami: Intuition and inspiration are important for fortune-telling, but I personally think the ability to read the atmosphere, or rather the feelings of the other person, is an important aspect of it as well.
Haruka Nanami: When the other person tells you what they want to know and turns over a card, that's the card you'll be reading.
Haruka Nanami: Each one of the cards have many different meanings, and there is no one way to interpret them.
Haruka Nanami: That’s why you have to listen to your client carefully and pick the answer that suits them best.
Haruka Nanami: People who want their fortune told often have already decided on an answer deep in their hearts, before the reading.
Haruka Nanami: So what I do is try and help bring that answer to the surface.
Haruka Nanami: If I refine this skill and can sense a singer's request as a sound in my heart instead of my head, then surely I'll be able to write good songs…
Haruka Nanami: It may just be a selfish daydream… But either way, I like to tell someone's fortune every once in a while.
Masato Hijirikawa: That's a good attitude to have. Feeling that an idol and a composer should meet halfway is an essential approach. I'll try to follow your example.
Masato Hijirikawa: However… A fortune-telling hall might be difficult to do with our class.
Masato Hijirikawa: It would have been fine if more people had fortune-telling as their hobby, but as it is, you would be carrying too big a burden on your own.
Tumblr media
Haruka Nanami: Then… how about a play?
Masato Hijirikawa: A play…? That sounds interesting.
Masato Hijirikawa: When I was younger, my grandfather often brought me along to the theater to see plays.
Masato Hijirikawa: The 'live' impression differentiates them from movies or drama series.
Haruka Nanami: What kind of performance should we do?
Masato Hijirikawa: Right… An original creation, or maybe a classic…
Haruka Nanami: A classic, you say… If that's what we're going with, then maybe…

Tumblr media
歌舞伎とか. A kabuki performance? (+0 Love +5 Music)
Masato Hijirikawa: It's certainly a traditional performing art, but… It’s not exactly a walk in the park for amateurs.
Haruka Nanami: Ah… T-then… it’s a little cliche, but how about Shakespeare?
Masato Hijirikawa: Now that you mention it… Since he's written many stories everyone is familiar with, it sounds like a good idea.
Tumblr media
竹取物語とか. The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter? (+0 Love +5 Music)
Masato Hijirikawa: That certainly is a classic, but rather… a classic piece of folklore.
Haruka Nanami: T-then, how about Shakespeare? Something like 'Romeo and Juliet' or 'Hamlet'.
Masato Hijirikawa: You're right, it would be good to go with something standard.
Tumblr media
シェイクスピアとか. Shakespeare. (+10 Love, +5 Music)
Haruka Nanami: Or… is that too simple?
Masato Hijirikawa: Not at all, I'm quite fond of Shakespeare as well. Our tastes align…
Masato Hijirikawa: Besides, there isn't much time. There is no need to try and be eccentric, so it’s fine if we keep it standard.
Masato Hijirikawa: So if we’re going through with Shakespeare, 'Romeo and Juliet' is the most familiar among Japanese people, isn't it?
Haruka Nanami: I think so.
Masato Hijirikawa: Then let's propose it to Tsukimiya-sensei.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And so, our class will be performing 'Romeo and Juliet,' but…
It seems like everyone in class will be busy with live performances and such, so it will be difficult for everyone to participate. Or rather, they pretty much just can't.
Which is why we don't have a very big cast to work with.
Still, we somehow managed to reduce the cast and shorten the time through trial and error.
As for the cast… Hijirikawa-sama will act as Romeo-sama.
And the role of Juliet… seems to have fallen to me.
Am I really fit for such a major role? But now that I've already accepted, I'll have to do my absolute best.
Masato Hijirikawa: In the end, it's best for us to play the main roles and leave those with fewer lines for Ittoki, Shinomiya, and Shibuya.
Masato Hijirikawa: As long as the outline stays true to the original, it'll be fine to add some elements of our own.
Haruka Nanami: Then, first of all, we should write the script…
Masato Hijirikawa: Mhm… Although, we aren’t professional writers.
Masato Hijirikawa: Rather than re-writing, we ought to fumble around while acting out the existing script.
Haruka Nanami: …Okay.
Tumblr media
Three days later… We're playing according to the existing script, though it's not going all too well.
But…
Masato Hijirikawa: Haru… In that part just now, could you try coming a little closer?
Haruka Nanami: Ah, o-of course!
Masato Hijirikawa: Your movements are stiff… Try to relax a little more.
Haruka Nanami: U-um… do you have any experience with theater?
Masato Hijirikawa: I wouldn't quite call it experience, but last year, at the school festival of the senior high school I attended, we performed a play with our class just like now.
Masato Hijirikawa: …It was actually a lot of fun.
Hijirikawa-sama smiles cheerfully.
Masato Hijirikawa: When playing a role, I can become the character and live a different life. It truly is a delightful thing to do.
Masato Hijirikawa: Especially since my own life has already been decided by my parents… I think I have told you before, but my grandfather often brought me along to see plays.
Masato Hijirikawa: He's a real theatergoer, so after watching the plays, he would tell me about them. Things like how the acting was, or that the production was worthless.
Masato Hijirikawa: It seems he still visits the theater once a month, even now. But as you would expect, I haven't been invited ever since I entered this school.
Masato Hijirikawa: Since plays are perishable in the same way as food, there's a transient feeling to them, like how even if you watch the same play twice, it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you won't get to see the exact same way again.
Masato Hijirikawa: There's also a sense of unity with the audience. The heat of the audience invigorating the stage as well as the conversation between them and the cast are unique to stage performances.
Masato Hijirikawa: However, if I were to be on stage, I would have to have that same conversation. And since ad-libbing is not my strongest suit, I will have to give it practice.
When Hijirikawa-sama talks about theater, his eyes shine and the tone of his voice gradually becomes more and more impassioned.
Haruka Nanami: You really like theater, huh…?
Masato Hijirikawa: Yeah, perhaps you are right. In the event that I become an idol, acting is something I'd like to challenge myself with as well…
Masato Hijirikawa: Just by acting, an actor can become anything. That is what appeals to me.
Haruka Nanami: Can't you go see any plays with your parents or your little sister?
The moment I ask him, Hijirikawa-sama's expression quickly turns gloomy.
Masato Hijirikawa: It's because my father lives solely for his work. Entertainment is irrelevant to him.
Masato Hijirikawa: My father is the second son, and was apparently not supposed to inherit the conglomerate. My grandfather told me he was rather mischievous when he was younger.
Masato Hijirikawa: However, my uncle—my father's older brother— was so gentle that he was deceived many times, and for a while the management of the business seemed to be keeling over.
Masato Hijirikawa: My father then rebuilt it with his assertive abilities, and raised it up to be the representative conglomerate of Japan. My uncle's days seem to have been pretty lenient.
Masato Hijirikawa: My father is relentless. They say that if there was an employee who slacked off even a little, he'd punish them corporally, kick them off the desk, and when he discovered an error in the management he would rampage all over the place.
Masato Hijirikawa: Apparently since he'd unexpectedly show up at associated companies without prior contact, his employees feared him, and even called him a 'monster incarnate' behind his back.
M-monster incarnate???
Even though Hijirikawa-sama is so earnest and composed… Could a parent and child really differ that much in personality?
Masato Hijirikawa: Consequently, I've heard it strengthened the network between fellow corporations, so when my father showed up at a nearby company, a warning would circulate to all the companies in its vicinity.
A warning…? Like a typhoon…
Masato Hijirikawa: Rather than fear having that kind of power, his existence became like the great king of fear itself. Feared by everyone, he played the autocrat.
Haruka Nanami: The great king of fear… Your father sounds quite awe-inspiring.
Masato Hijirikawa: Mhm, he's a very severe person. To be honest, even I fear him from time to time…
Masato Hijirikawa: In any case, given the fact he single-handedly expanded the conglomerate just like that, there are high expectations of me, too.
Masato Hijirikawa: Due to my uncle's failures, I was raised very strictly so that I wouldn't follow in his footsteps. It was very constrained, so there was no room for me to disobey by any means.
And if it's someone people call a 'monster incarnate' or 'the great king of fear', that makes disobeying all the more difficult.
Still, Hijirikawa-sama went as far as to defy such a scary father just to come here.
Masato Hijirikawa: That’s why it feels like a miracle being here with you right now. …Oops, we've been shooting the breeze. Let's continue our practice.
Haruka Nanami: Right!
Then, since he can’t leave my poor acting uncorrected, Hijirikawa-sama politely teaches me everything little by little.
Suddenly, he leans in closer…
Masato Hijirikawa: At this part, where I take your hand… Are you fine with me pulling you in closer by your waist?
Haruka Nanami: …Eh?
Masato Hijirikawa: In this scene, I whisper my love to you. I think it would work better if your face was closer.

で、でも... B-but… (+10 Love +0 Music)
Haruka Nanami: It’s… a little embarrassing.
Masato Hijirikawa: You think so…? Although, if you blush like you are now, perhaps it can convey the expression of a maiden in love.
Masato Hijirikawa: Then… How is this?
Suddenly, Hijirikawa-sama kneels down in front of me and takes my hand.
He looks up to me with slightly watery eyes.
In just a snap, he got into his role. He must have an amazing ability to focus for him to change his entire demeanor in an instant…
He's really talented, huh…
Masato Hijirikawa: The moment I laid my eyes upon you, my heart throbbed furiously.
Masato Hijirikawa: No matter what may stand in my way, no matter how harsh the future will be from here on out…
I want to take you away with me right now.
Masato Hijirikawa: Even now, the hammering in my chest still echoes, and my hand is wandering in search of you.
Masato Hijirikawa: I am aware that telling you this will only trouble you, but even so…
I feel helpless, wanting you.
Hijirikawa-sama kisses the back of my hand.
Haruka Nanami: A-ah, um, um, ehm, um!!!
Masato Hijirikawa: … Pardon me. Since this is a play, I figured we ought to convey this much…
Ah, it’s the usual Hijirikawa-sama. He’s amazing at switching 'on' and 'off'.
He has amazing talent as a singer, but it feels like he'd be able to break out as an actor as well.
Masato Hijirikawa: If you're that shaken, however…
If you don't get at least a little used to it, our faults might become visible at the actual performance.
Masato Hijirikawa: Shall we continue practicing, my Juliet?
Juliet.' The energy in the voice that called out to me felt like that of Romeo himself.
Haruka Nanami: …We shall, Romeo-sama.
Tumblr media
あ、はい、そうですね. Ah, yeah, you're right. (+0 Love +0 Music)
Masato Hijirikawa: Then, we'll do it like that in this scene.
Haruka Nanami: Okay.
Tumblr media
もっと情熱的かも. Perhaps a little more passionate. (+25 Love +0 Music)
Masato Hijirikawa: Passionate, you say… Then…
As soon as that word leaves his lips, something in his eyes changes. He feels like Romeo-sama himself, causing me to unintentionally startle a little.
Being able to slip into his role in just a moment… Amazing…
Suddenly, Hijirikawa-sama grabs me by my waist and embraces me. After closing the distance between us to the point that it feels like our cheeks are touching, he once again stares straight into my eyes.
Haruka Nanami: Eh… U-um…
With Hijirikawa-sama getting into his role, I've ended up feeling a bit panicky.
Masato Hijirikawa: Even though I can embrace you just by reaching out my hands a little…
Masato Hijirikawa: When telling you about my love, your heart seems more endlessly distant than the sky.
Masato Hijirikawa: But no, I have realized the truth. Your feelings are the same as mine… Despite realizing it, you’ve been pretending you haven’t.
His usual voice is beautiful, but… it sounds even more intense and amorous now. Hearing his voice alone is enough to make my heart pound.
Masato Hijirikawa: If only I could abandon all my ties and take you away tonight… I do not know the amount of times I've wished I was able to do so.
Masato Hijirikawa: Although… Indeed, it is just how cowardly I am.
Masato Hijirikawa: However, right now, for just this moment… Please, I want you to be my goddess only.
Hijirikawa-sama gently kisses my hair.
Haruka Nanami: A-ah… That's… ehm… U-um…
W-what…? The… the next line… What is it again…? E-eh?
Masato Hijirikawa: Why are you so restless? You were the one to suggest I should be more passionate, right?
Haruka Nanami: A-ah, I guess… that's true…. U-um… I'm feeling a bit ruffled…
Masato Hijirikawa: Is that so… We can't afford to forget the script in the actual performance. Let’s stop for now…
Tumblr media
Since then, we've finished writing the script and practiced tons.
Today is the performance.
I'm a little nervous.
Haruka Nanami: Ah! It's this late already? I should go and call Masato-kun.
As I head to the classroom we're using as a waiting room…
I find Hijirikawa-sama deep in conversation with an unknown man with a severe expression.
Hijirikawa-sama's face is stiff… I can feel the tension from here.
Masato Hijirikawa: Father… You've come.
…Hm? Did he say father?
Eh!! That man is the father that people called a 'monster incarnate' and 'the great king of fear!?'
I don't see anyone but a dandy, middle-aged man… He's the person who causes rampages at companies??? Whoa… I never would have guessed…
Masaomi: I've only come to see just how stupid the school you’ve chosen is.
Masato Hijirikawa: Um… Is Mai…
Masaomi: Right. She wanted to come along, but I've decided to leave her home.
Masato Hijirikawa: … I see…
Hijirikawa-sama clenches his fist tightly.
Masaomi: It truly is a rubbish place. … I'm letting you play around just this once. But if you haven't grown after one year…
Masato Hijirikawa: …I know…
Masaomi: You’re the heir to the Hijirikawa family, Masato. That is the one thing I can't have you forget…
He says nothing else before turning his back and leaving.
With a grim expression on his face, Hijirikawa-sama stares down his father's back.
…That’s right…
Hijirikawa-sama is the heir to a big conglomerate. I thought I understood, but…
He always treats me so normally, I tend to forget he's a person of status and I wouldn't be able to talk to him so easily normally.
But the truth is that his existence is very distant from mine.
Even though I've only felt closer to you up until now... You're actually much more distant…
Masato Hijirikawa: Haru…? Why are you standing in a place like this?
Haruka Nanami: Ah, um, it’s…
While I’m spacing out in the hallway, Hijirikawa-sama calls out to me.
Masato Hijirikawa: …Did you perhaps… hear what just…
Haruka Nanami: Ah, I'm… I'm sorry. Um… That person just now, was that your…
Masato Hijirikawa: Father, yes.
Haruka Nanami: He’s quite a dignified man, huh…
Masato Hijirikawa: Well, that's why his employees titled him 'the great king of fear.'
Saying that, he smiles.
I quickly realize he was just pretending to be strong with that joke, so as to not cause me any worries.
Haruka Nanami: You don't have to act tough… Please don't swallow it down on your own. Are you… afraid of your dad?
Masato Hijirikawa: …Saying I'm not would be a lie. That man has a hold over everything in my life.
Masato Hijirikawa: My father always wants it his way, no exceptions. If he says something is white, even black will be white…
Masato Hijirikawa: He’s that kind of person.
Masato Hijirikawa: Until now, I’ve had no choice but to live as he wanted me to. However…
Masato Hijirikawa: Last winter. I noticed he arranged something with the school I was supposed to have a hard time enrolling into, so that only I was able to enroll.
Hijirikawa-sama clenches his back teeth.
Haruka Nanami: That’s… cruel…
Masato Hijirikawa: It shocked me. And shortly after, I happened upon a list with my education plans in my father's study.
Masato Hijirikawa: On it were things like what school I should go to next, what skills I will have acquired at what age, and which positions I can take over at what age.
Masato Hijirikawa: They were filled out in detail. …At that time, I thought to myself…
Masato Hijirikawa: …My life is so shallow it can be expressed on a single sheet of A4 paper…
A single sheet of A4 paper…
Regardless of that person's intentions, to have complete control over someone like that…
If I were in Hijirikawa-sama's position… Even if I try to think about it, it's so disconnected from my reality that I can't imagine it.
Masato Hijirikawa: Realizing this is how shallow my existence is, I was in despair.
His clenched fist is starting to tremble.
Haruka Nanami: Masato-kun…
I tightly grasp Hijirikawa-sama's hand with both of mine.
I can’t do much more, but I want him to cheer up, even if it’s just a little.
Then, Hijirikawa-sama smiles and gazes at me with kind eyes.
Masato Hijirikawa: You really do give me courage, always. Even back then…
Haruka Nanami: Back then…?
Masato Hijirikawa: Nothing… Now isn't the time to tell you yet.
Haruka Nanami: ???
I wonder what it is. It's a little difficult to ask in this kind of atmosphere, though.
Masato Hijirikawa: Don’t worry about it. Right now, I have a dream: to become a professional with you.
Masato Hijirikawa: Someone like that can't have a shallow existence by any means.
Masato Hijirikawa: For the first time since I was born, I'm living as myself. I have you to thank for that.
I'm not sure I understand, but I'm happy if I was of any help.
I, too, have become more confident in myself recently because of Hijirikawa-sama.
Every time he's told me to "have confidence," I start looking up and forward more.
Even I, who was bad at eye contact and would always look downwards up until junior high school…
… have gradually grown more confident since entering this school.
With the support of various people, I'm here right now. I have to do my best.
Haruka Nanami: Ehm… I’ll be doing my best, so…

Masato Hijirikawa: We can't show him something half-baked. Besides, I want my father to understand the beauty of theater…

Haruka Nanami: When he sees you on stage, I'm sure he'll finally understand.
Masato Hijirikawa: …You're right. There's no point if we don't show any results to begin with.

Masato Hijirikawa: Let's.

Masato Hijirikawa: You're right… If I'm shaken up before the performance, it will show in my acting. I must face the play with a clear mind.

Then, it’s time for the long-awaited performance. I feel extremely nervous knowing that Hijirikawa-sama's father will be watching.
Nevertheless, with Hijirikawa-sama's follow-up in the opening stages, everything goes smoothly.
He gradually gets more heated, and his acting becomes increasingly passionate.
Haruka Nanami: O, Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?
Uuuh. My voice is unsteady, but I have to do my best.
Masato Hijirikawa: … It's…
Suddenly the arms that reach out to me are holding me firmly.
Haruka Nanami: Eh…?
His movements… they're different from what we've practiced. Sometimes he'd get very passionate when entering his role during practice too, but…
It must be because it's the actual performance. His spirit feels different…
Masato Hijirikawa: … Because I do not have the courage to throw everything away.
Haruka Nanami: … ?
W-what do I do? Even his lines are different.
Is he… ad-libbing? How should I handle this…?
Masato Hijirikawa: … It is because I am afraid of losing everything that I cannot even take your lips.
A gaze much gentler than usual stares into my eyes.
Haruka Nanami: … ? … ??
Eh… U-um…
Masato Hijirikawa: But the warmth that is you, who is here right now…
Hijirikawa-sama embraces my body so tight, it hurts.
Haruka Nanami: … !!! Eh…?
His face is… close… It's like our lips could touch at any moment.
His expression is heartrending. Is this really… acting…?
Getting into his role this much… I have to embody Juliet as well. But as much as I want to, I can't concentrate.
Masato Hijirikawa: If it makes my heart waver so much… If it brings me this much pain, then…
Masato Hijirikawa: For the sake of love alone, I want to be only your knight tonight…
Haruka Nanami: U-um, ehm…
Masato Hijirikawa: Ah! … Excuse me.
He mutters in a whisper as his expression changes, and the energy of his acting turns back to normal.
Masato Hijirikawa: Juliet… I was born for the sake of meeting and protecting you alone.
The lines return to those from the script again and Hijirikawa-sama finally sets me free.
After that, the play continues like normal, but despite there being no more ad libs…
Hijirikawa-sama begins to act strange again once we get to the scene after eloping, where we give our vows in the church.
Shining Saotome: Do YOU believe in God, as weeell as Shining?
Haruka Nanami: I do.
Shining Saotome: OK OK! Then, I'll allow the kiss in the name of Shining! Let's do the mwah mwah!
Tumblr media
Following the lines of the priest — played by the principal — Hijirikawa-sama pulls me towards himself by my waist.
U-um… his face is… closer than we practiced.
The kiss to seal our vows. Even though we’ll only pretend… I can't stop my heart from beating so fast.
Masato Hijirikawa: Haru…
Did he just whisper my name…?
Haruka Nanami: Eh…?
But right now, I'm Juliet…
Masato Hijirikawa: Even if I give in to this momentary feeling, there won't be any happiness for me… I won't be able to make you happy…
Masato Hijirikawa: Even though reason is sounding the alarm not to do it… Thousands of passionate feelings are flowing over…
Masato Hijirikawa: They're growing so violent, there's no stopping them any longer.
Masato Hijirikawa: In this monochrome life where I'm bound to my family and don't have any freedom, you are all that blooms vividly and mesmerizes me.
Masato Hijirikawa: … Only you are my miracle. The one and only existence.
As he whispers into my ear, all strength leaves my body.
My mind has become numb to the core, and I can’t… think anymore…
Masato Hijirikawa: Haru. I'm certain that my birth has been for the sole sake of protecting you.
His lips come closer…
Shining Saotome: …If you really do it, you will be expelled.
The priest — who is really just the principal — mutters softly.
Haruka Nanami: Ah! Romeo-sama… We shouldn't!!!
I instinctively push Hijirikawa-sama away.
Haruka Nanami: Ah…
Shining Saotome: And so, Romeo and Juliet never crossed the line. And they all lived happily ever afteeer~
The principal forcibly puts an end to the performance and the curtains fall.
It ended up as an unfinished Romeo and Juliet, but the audience's appraisal was good enough as it was.
Though…
Hijirikawa-sama hasn't looked me in the eye even once since the performance ended.
And I, too, ended up avoiding him out of embarrassment…
Without having exchanged a word, the school festival ended.
Tumblr media
Haruka Nanami: Everyone is probably enjoying the after-party by now, huh…
I'm alone on the rooftop, gazing at the stars.
Romeo and Juliet are a son and daughter from opposing families, and in reality, they shouldn't have fallen in love.
But having fallen in love on the day of meeting each other, they eloped in an attempt to oppose those inevitable realities.
And yet, by toying with their destinies, they both die in the end.
It is said that when they met, Romeo was fifteen, and Juliet was thirteen.
And the time between their encounter and their death was only five days…
They should have known they couldn't fall for each other. What was it that made their feelings so strong?
I wonder what I would do if I liked someone I shouldn’t fall in love with…

Haruka Nanami: Masato-kun plays Romeo so well that even I was able to slip into my role…
That must be all there is to it… So I'm sure that starting tomorrow, I'll just be my usual self again.
Everything should be back to normal. It must…
Mini Game
Ringo Tsukimiya: This time, we'll go back to basics and study rhythm again!
Ringo Tsukimiya: But don't be fooled, the difficulty level will be higher than before, so beware~
Ringo Tsukimiya: Since rhythm is so important, please try to keep it in mind at all times.
Ringo Tsukimiya: I'll show you first, and then you'll try to follow my lead.
Ringo Tsukimiya: Well then, let’s do this! Follow my lead~!
Perfect S Rank
Masato Hijirikawa: What should I do with this urge?
Masato Hijirikawa: Even though I know it will never be tolerated, this heart that wishes to hold you in my arms…
Masato Hijirikawa: Please restrain it with your music.
… Hijirikawa-sama?
After finishing the test and turning around, I see him standing in the corner of the classroom.
But while I hesitate between calling out to him or not, he turns away and leaves.
It’s… still too awkward, huh…
I hope we can talk like usual tomorrow, but…

so! a lot of people have already said stuff, but I’ll try my best to articulate a few interesting points I can make. under the cut due to me being wordy.
in sasaki to miyano, when we see that flashback of hanzawa’s family in ch 28, both of his brothers come out as gay and then his mother asks masato, who’s suddenly put on the spot, and says he likes girls. now, some people know they’re gay in middle school. some people. they definitely don’t. and then his mother is like, alright! that’s settled. masato will take care of the kids / family line! and we exit the scene with young masato thinking why was she relieved…?
so there’s clearly something going on here, right. it’s a very lax “coming out” scene, to the point that the acceptance feels very agreeable, but it’s now formed this weird kind of burden on hanzawa? like, his mother was relieved. being gay is not totally fine, it is conditionally fine. so he has to like girls, and date one, and get married, and have kids… eventually. he’s kind of locked himself out of being “different.” at the same time, he’s also witnessed, you know, general real-world homophobia. it seems hard, being out and proud! would be easier to. not do that, wouldn’t it? (let’s ignore how miserable being closeted is!)
this is what makes headcanoning hanzawa as aromantic or some kind of gay and aspec combination really interesting to me. I figure that no matter what this kind of “pressure of conformity” has got to make it really hard for him to really think about that for himself… like he likes talking about love, but he doesn’t like people centering it on him, because he doesn’t want that association. is that because he doesn’t think he’ll ever have that romantic feeling, or because he thinks any kind he has will be “wrong”? who knows, either way it’s fun. I think he’s got to be weird about romance no matter what and I love that for him. hanzawa has dyed hair. he has an absurd amount of piercings. and yet! he looks absurdly normal because he dyed his hair black and only wears his piercings outside of school. still—he has them! when questioned about why he dyed his hair black, hanzawa says something along the lines of liking to pretend he’s a straight-laced student (dvd extra 2). it’s… almost an aggressive kind of push to normalcy, I think. fascinates me.
so. about hirano to kagiura. like people have mentioned, the timeline makes it so that the hanzawa we see here is a little different than what we see in sasaki and miyano. but also… his level of involvement is quite different? like, he barely talks to sasaki, and miyano’s an underclassman he’s fond of. but a lot of sasaki and miyano’s moments tend to be pretty private, and miyano also doesn’t talk about them that much until he starts asking for advice. meanwhile, hirano and hanzawa might not be full-on friends when kagiura shows up, but they were on good enough terms for hirano to ask him for help on how to welcome his new roommate. plus, hanzawa’s the dorm head, so he sees a lot more of hirano and kagiura than other people are seeing. I think he’s worried about them—acting strange, being deviant. is this homophobic… I mean… kind of? but I think it’s motivated by fear and not malice. hanzawa’s conscious of the judgements of the outside world, which is a real and valid thing to worry about. he doesn’t want there to be any crossing of the line, because that has… like, consequences. getting into a gay relationship is a bit more serious, because it’s something that goes against the grain. and as far as propriety goes, even kagiura himself internally thinks about how much he’s allowed to push, so being “careful” is not even a concern that’s exclusive to hanzawa!
i think it comes off as more aggressive in hirano to kagiura simply because hanzawa’s around to see more of the developing romance. he doesn’t really talk to miyano much until miyano’s already pretty much in love with sasaki and aware of it (hanzawa doesn’t even get named until ch 19 of sasaki to miyano). the same cannot be said about hirano to kagiura.
Btw can someone explain Hanzawa to me more? I mean, i do know that he's not exactly homophobic but just worried for his friends bc that's what he said in SasaMiya, but i feel like he's a bit more on the nose in HiraKagi? Like it could just be me but in some scenes it feels like he really doesn't want these two to end up with eachother, even if he supports him and doesnt say it outright. Idk this man confuses me and maybe tumblr understands him better and can tell me in easy terms what's up 🙏🙏🙏

The lads go camping
This is really just me telling my own or other people’s camping stories under the guise of utapri boys. Also can I say, my layout is rlly pretty and aesthetic (I think..) but like my content is just shitposts except when its shipping I suppose
Tumblr media
It’s kinda scary how enthusiastic Otoya is to start the campfire
Ren’s brought his entire gaming set to the campsite
Ranmaru’s already started going into the forest to start a deforestation in that area
“NATSUKI WHY DO YOU HAVE A BLOWTORCH?? ARE YOU GONNA MAKE A GOD DAMN CREME BRÛLÉE?!!”
Syo has slowly lost his mind, trying to save the area from a forest fire
Tokiya is casually setting up the tent he brought for the group and reading the instructions
Cecil is on the other side without any instructions because they were burnt by Natsuki’s blowtorch
This happens while the birds has taken Camus’ hair hostage (again)
Ren is just setting in a gaming chair while playing fortnite
Reiji brought a pack of cards that they never even used
Half of the conversations had within the camping trip are already forgotten
Camus has also brought his king size memory foam bed that is in pristine condition
Ranmaru calls him a pansy
Cecil is going around taking photos
Masato has brought an entire grill and katana just for…safety
Masato reminds Otoya what to bring and gives him a list
One of the things listed is a power bank
Otoya ends up buying a brick from Amazon
This thing can charge his family for the next twenty generations
He did not need to buy this
The forest animals have taken Natsuki in as one of their own
Ren’s tent is just a twelve story apartment
They’ve somehow lost Cecil somewhere
A raccoon ends up stealing Masato’s entire meal plan
They ended up setting security cameras because that would totally work
Spoiler; it did not work
Camus is the one guy who brings a machete to the camp site
It was what Ranmaru had used to deforest the entire area
Camus is also that one guy who brought Krispy Kreme to the site
Ai is another person who ended up buying a brick of a power bank
The difference between him and Otoya though is that Ai actually kinda needs the power bank
Camus is definitely not one of the people who is setting up the tents
He just stands back and watches them
He occasionally comments about how bad Ranmaru is doing while in a hammock eating a donut
Ranmaru flips the hammock
Like Reiji, Tokiya, Ai, Masato’s tent is like pristine and proper
While Syo, Otoya, Natsuki and Cecil’s tent is like barely hanging on, its somehow rusted, none of the poles fit with each other.
Otoya is straight up just sitting there for an hour, trying to light the fire
He is just like pulling up the instructions
He is there with a flint; that fails
He is there with Natsuki’s blow torch; still fails
He is still there with the fire starter; even that fails
Then Ai notes that he is trying to light the wood that was left out in the rain
He eventually gets the fire started with a new bundle of wood
The fire crackles around them, the cold of the night nipping at their hands and feet. All of the idols were crowded around the fire. Some sitting on the logs, some sitting on the floor, a few of them on the hammock and the rest were just standing around. A soft aura blankets all of them. No one spoke except for the wind’s whispers. It was calm. If only they could capture this moment is a picture frame. The peace would be everlasting. Perhaps with time, they'll get a similar experience yet time was what would eventually cause this picture to break. As a special sending off to the night, Otoya brings out his guitar, slowly strumming it to get warmed up.
He starts to hum a simple melody with the other idols gradually joining in, clapping along to the beat. The camp was a mess but it was fun. Almost nothing went to plan but that's what made it exciting. It was fun just hanging out with his friends. It was a good break, something for all of them to escape. Without the paparazzi, without the burdens of being an idol. It was just him, nature, his friends and music.
“You and I will always be back then~”

HEAVENS: Love letters
Soooo this is the last of the love letter, I really must reiterate how thankful I am to the people who responded to my message. Specially thankful for the people who ended up writing for one of the boys, all of the love letter writers are so cool. If you wanted to write your own love letter for your oshi then feel free too!! Utapri Tumblr is kinda dead.... but! I hope you enjoyed the love letters
Please enjoy under cut!!!!!!!!!!!!
EIJI OTORI
From Anon:
Eiji Otori is another member of HEAVENS and he is a down-to-earth type of character. One can say he is a cinnamon roll as he looks out for HEAVENS and his brother, Eiichi. Eiji talks in a formal manner to people outside of HEAVENS and addresses them by their surname like the time he worked with Tokiya for Mighty Aura, or when he was working with Camus and Masato for Feather in Hand. Around HEAVENS, Eiji talks casually, calling them by their first name. He is very mindful of other members of HEAVENS and Eiji keeps an open mind for ways to improve his skills as an idol and to help out his bandmates come to a solution where both sides agree. Eiji speaks very fondly of the people he works with formality and a lot of respect.
What I love about Eiji is his relationship with his brother, Eiichi Otori. The two have a strong bond as Eiichi looked after and took care of Eiji when growing up. The two of them are inseparable and do a lot together while looking after each other. Personally, their sibling bond is what I wish to have with my sibling as well, even though we're complete opposites like day and night! Their interactions are easily seen throughout the anime, you can even see their sibling bond show the most through HEAVENS Radio as Eiichi and Eiji are the co-hosts. If there is anything that I'd like to know more about Eiji, it would be about his hobby, gardening. He has a lot of knowledge on plants and perhaps agriculture. It'd be nice to see HEAVENS talk about their hobbies one day. But all in all, Eiji is a great character that I appreciate with a heart of gold!
From Anon:
Eiji Otori, the 4th member of HEAVENS is one of my two most favorite characters in Utapri. I was originally drawn to his kind and gentle demeanor, that made him such an easily lovable character. He was introduced in the 4th season of the anime in the cross idol unit episodes. The way he treated Tokiya besides knowing he was part of the rival idol group ended up becoming an essential part of Tokiya’s later character growth. Although Eiji is meant to be a foil for Tokiya’s character their personalities are completely polar opposites, their devotion to wanting to be an idol being one of the only similarities besides level headedness. Eiji is his own character, right down the way he speaks to the way he sings. Eiji seems to always carry the group in a loving and family-like way, even going as far as having domestic hobbies like gardening and baking. We always see him and even hear the way he interacts with the other members of HEAVENS on the radio show as if they were an inseparable family. Eiichi, his older brother and the leader of HEAVENS loves him in a way that is so complex but Eiji will always love him back with every fiber of his being to the deepest parts of his soul. There is a deep connection between the brothers that is so beautiful that even poetry couldn’t express, it’s more profound then words can show. It’s a bond they share that only they know, like a secret.
However, even then there is so much more about Eiji that makes him such a wonderful character. When it comes to myself, Eiji hits a bit close to home in a more personal way. Perhaps that is also a factor in why I love him so much. I empathize with him and I can see through his eyes in ways only a younger sibling would know. As a younger sister to a sibling who has always been in the spotlight in some form of way with a big presence, I always lived in her shadow, but I admired her and cared about her above anything else. The way Eiji feels about Eiichi is something that I can personally relate with and understand. Eiichi is an essential part of Eiji’s character and the anime does not lack to show this, nor does it lack to show that Eiji is just as much an essential part of Eiichi’s character. It’s more obvious in the radio show that is hosted by the two brother but it’s not fully ignored either in the anime. I love how Eiji interacts with all of the characters, and seems to find ways to treat everyone with kindness even if they aren’t kind to him in return. He admires those who show a deep love for the things he does, and respects those who are more experienced then he is. He’s always eager to learn
and please. He’s the kind of person you’d always want around and you’d want a hug when things get rough. Eiji is definitely the most pure hearted character of all the Utapri characters. And, I’ll always stand by that through and through.
VAN KIRYUIN
From @whereisvanderwood:
Kiryuin Van. Where to start? He’s cocky. He’s cocky as all hell. There’s something in his air that is poised yet undignified. Childish yet mature. The man is founded on juxtaposition, not dissimilar to a painting of Picasso. His ability to be unique in an industry that begs for individuality, to rise above a tidal wave of competition and stand apart from other fish in the sea, is awe-inspiring. Expectation is dead to him; though the oldest member of Heavens, the weight of bearing the role as ‘most mature’ or the ‘parent’ of the group couldn’t be further from his concern. He is only any dimension of himself he wants to be at any given time. Dumb bitch by morning, bad bitch by night. Much like his bandmates, his confidence and intimidating aura is unwavering. He claims his victory before a race begins, and I couldn’t say if that undying faith in oneself is a skill or a sin. Whatever it is, he owns it. He shamelessly, unapologetically owns who he is and shares it with his fans, friends and enemies.
Also, he’s hot. He’s very appealing to the human eye. His ruggedness reminds me of a warm blanket in winter. His voice, oh his voice. If the world was about to blow up and he just said “No it won’t”, in his own way, I think I’d believe him. Regardless of what he says being juvenile or mature, he’s always authentic. No sugar coats, no little white lies, only genuity. As just said before, he is who he is and wouldn’t change for anyone if it wasn’t in his own best interest. Who couldn’t love a guy like that?
YAMATO HYUGA
From @kusagiiiii:
I'll be honest, I used to forget Yamato exists alot LMAO I fell in love with him when I was looking at a HEAVENS group photo! I think he is a very stronk, very cute and a very soft boy! in some ways haha he's my type
I honestly wish there would be more story on the HEAVENS boys since they all seem like they had a pretty rough past so yee that's basically it~
From Sammy:
Everybody, listen up! It’s Sammy here! Are you ready for some strong appreciation? Let’s shout it out! Yeah!!
Where do I begin when it comes to Yamato? It took me a while to actually like him. At first, I wasn’t a fan of how he was when he first showed up in the anime. I still remember when Yamato was one of the few HEAVENS members people really didn’t like or care much for, next to Eiichi and Nagi.
I used to be one of those people too with Yamato. I found him to be very stubborn, but over time after listening to HEAVENS Radio; The Drama CDs; Watching Maji Love Kingdom, etc… I came to realize there’s so much more to him.
I’ve learned a lot more about him, especially through role-playing as him, and my love for Yamato skyrocketed. Even with all the new content that’s been coming out for HEAVENS lately like Black Garden and Endless Score, my love grows even more every day. Yamato sneaked his way up to being one of my best boys.
Yamato is HEAVENS’ Strongest member. (Seriously, how the heck does this boy train everyday and do so much of it?!) He’s not always aggressive and violent. He’s actually a really thoughtful person who cares about his friends a lot, even being very protective of them. Yamato is the kind of person that’ll immediately stop what he’s doing, and only think about how to help the other person feel better.
A lot of things tend to be overlooked for him cause of how he’s written in the anime, and there’s fans who only pay attention to that. Not even giving the extra content a thought or a single glance.
As Ryuya’s younger brother, Yamato has his own insecurities, especially since he’s always seen as just a shadow. He’s been trapped in darkness where he feels he’s not good enough to be appreciated and loved as his own person. He doesn’t know what to do and which path to take. Yamato only became an idol just to defeat and finally be better than Ryuya at something. I feel that goal is still there, but it’s not a major one like before. Now, Yamato has people like the other members of HEAVENS, the angels, and the other idols. He found his light and happiness.
Overall, Yamato is the kind of person he wants everyone to be proud of. He wants to always share his strongest power and energy, carrying the burden of everybody’s smiles. Wanting to see those around him happy and be the best they can be.
Another part that I really like about Yamato is whenever he gets embarrassed. I can’t help, but find that really cute cause it’s something we don’t see or hear out of him a lot.
There’s also the times he demonstrates how much he loves food. Even though he overeats and knows he can’t help it when he’s hungry, I really liked when Yamato stated that if eating makes you happy, go for it. Just make sure you train afterwards to burn off calories. It helps people feel good about themselves.
Even the times when Yamato struggles with difficult words, specifically English and kanji. It’s embarrassing for him to admit, but he knows he’s not good at that sort of thing. What I really like about this is HEAVENS is always willing to help him, even Tokiya and Cecil. They help keep things simple and easy for Yamato to understand.
There’s a lot you can say I just simply vibe with when it comes to Yamato, and I love him. Hope everyone enjoys this long appreciation of this strong boy, and I hope you all love him too!
SHION AMAKUSA
From Anon:
When I saw Shion for the first time, he caught my attention with his beautiful appearance. His cream-white hair, his periwinkle eyes and his pale skin were a wonderful combination that I just couldn't ignore. Physically, he was exactly the type of character I love… Even his hairstyle is great! And what to say about his pretty face! To me, he looked like an angel.
His style in clothes is something I also like about him. With all this mixed, the only word I can use to describe him is "perfect".
But, of course, there's more than just physical appearance. Shion's way of speaking, as we all know, is quite… Particular. And those beautiful words made me be more interested in this boy, even if they were a bit difficult to understand. This characteristic is something that, in my opinion, makes him special, not only in his group but among all the groups.
That poetic way of speaking is a beautiful combination with his voice. When he speaks I find it so mystical… And when he sings his solo songs I feel relaxed and even a bit emotional. He's not an angel just physically, he also sings like one!
But what made me love him completely was his personality. To be honest, at first I didn't understand why he acted so hostile to Cecil and signed with him, but when it was explained later I could see his point of view and I felt sorry for him, for how he was feeling and the big sacrifice he was making if we take into account his thoughts.
Loyalty is something I value a lot, and Shion has a huge loyalty towards his friends. After that incident, he changes his way of thinking and he starts getting more friendly to the rest, something I find beautiful.
I also find him very cute, an extra point for me to like him. His -sometimes- childish attitude is adorable! And how he acts around his friends… So lovely!
I also feel a bit similar to him in some aspects, such as listening to the same song again and again, liking birds or even usually feeling sleepy, besides other things. These similarities make me feel connected in some way with him.
Shion is a very special character for me, and I can't wait to see more content about him, to know more about this wonderful boy, for example, about his family, where he is from, how he ended up in HEAVENS, how he started to speak the way he does… There are a lot of things we don't know yet and I hope we can get more information about Shion soon!

Chapter 3 - Feelings [STARISH]
Chapter 4 →
Otoya Ittoki
During practice, Otoya would wear his headset and write away. It was normal for the boy to do, being an idol. However, what tipped ST☆RISH was that Otoya was being a bit too quiet.
He wasn't headbanging, doing dance steps or singing his lyrics aloud. He was concentrated on his lyric writing. He was becoming Masato, as Ren said. Masato did not take that as a compliment.
After four continuous days of this strange habit, his bandmates decided to confront him about it.
"Otoya..."
"Oi Otoya!" Tokiya shook him by the shoulders. His headphones fell off and a love song blasted out.
"It's... It's not what you think!" The flustered boy tried to explain. "I was writing lyrics for our new soー"
"Oh? ~" Ren said, snatching the papers Otoya held.
"Ren!"
"Well these are interesting lyrics... They're in the form of a girl who resembles SN-san..." He commented.
"Ren! Give them back!" Otoya cried. "That's private!"
He smirked, holding the papers a little out of Otoya's reach. "I thought you said these were our lyrics?"
"I... I don'tー"
Ren handed him back the drawings of you. "Otoya, it isn't that hard to admit you like her."
Otoya's eyes shined as the revelation came to him.
"I... fell in love with her."
Masato Hijirikawa
He had this feeling. He had a guess about what it was.
He sat in front of his beloved piano and tried to write his piece. He couldn't. Not a single phrase, bar or note.
"Masato?" Tokiya walked into the room. "You haven't finished the piece. The rest of us were worried you might be sick."
"I'm not," He reassured his friend. "At the moment, I don't think I can compose anything."
"Eh?!"
"There's a burden in my chest. It burns and aches whenever I ponder about it. I thought about it for a while..." He said, covering the untouched piano.
"I denied it at first as it seemed too fast. She broke my stoic shell. LN-san... I developed feelings for her."
Natsuki Shinomiya
"This is some improvement Natsuki," Masato said as he held Natsuki's recent results. He had shown it off to everyone in ST☆RISH and Masato was proud of him for making such progress.
"How'd you do it Natsuki? You got higher than me!" Cecil complained. "Tell me the secrets!"
Natsuki beamed with joy. "From YN-senpai's notes! They're so cute... And she's so cute..."
The whole froze. Natsuki just fawned over a girl. Ren however was the only one who was giving Natsuki a prouder look. Tokiya, in that brief moment, took the opportunity to smack Ren by the back of his head.
As everyone tried to process what Natsuki said, Tokiya went ahead and asked, "Natsuki, do you like her?"
"Yeah!"
...
.....
"As in, romantically?"
"Yeah!"
...
....
"What is it? Is it wrong?" He said, confused.
"We... didn't expect you to develop affections for someone so soon..." Masato said earnestly.
It didn't bother him at all.
"So how should I confess?"
Ren Jinguji
He had a weekend all to himself. He announced to his band mates that he intends to not be bothered.
In all honesty, he didn't know where he was going. Before he knew it, he wandered into an antique shop.
He looked around aimlessly, until his eyes fell upon a piece. A glass chess piece. The Queen.
It strangely reminded him of you. Maybe it was your demeanour, as ice cold as a queen. Or maybe it was how you listened to him, as a queen to her subjects.
Or perhaps... it was a prince who had found his queen.
"So that was this feeling all along huh?" He clutched the piece and smiled.
Cecil Aijima
Cecil let out a sigh. Once again you were oblivious to his affections. He did everything he could. He danced with you, helped you in your performance, and dined with you.
Lately you'd been busy with your performance so Cecil couldn't see you often. Even so, it'd be better for him since he had to plan his confession.
He had bought a bunch of shoujo magazines to read articles about what romantic advances girls preferred.
"Aijima... what is this?" Masato picked up one of the issues sticking out from his bag.
"E-Eh! Don't touch that!" Cecil pouted, rudely stealing the magazine back. "I-It's... It's my confession plan!"
"To LN-san?" Masato blatantly said.
"How'd you know Masa?"
Masato showed him the crumpled confession letters he'd written. He must've thrown them away in the practice room...
"Are you really going to confess to her using magazines?"
"Yup!" Cecil confirmed. "And she's going to love it! I know she will!"
Masato didn't want to lecture the boy about the unrealism in those magazines, seeing as how Cecil had such a plan for his crush.
"Well, bye! I need to go see my goddess!"
Syo Kurusu
He was too much of coward to admit he was in love. Everyone in ST☆RISH knew about his crush on you.
He wasn't even sure if you're allowed to have a relationship. Who knows ー you could be virgin for life.
He couldn't keep it to himself. He had to confess. He just had to do it without dying from the shrine guards.
He asked to speak to Haruka.
"Haruka, I'm in love with Miko YN."
"Oh, I know that."
He was dumbfounded.
"Cecil told me."
"How do I confess to her?"
Haruka thought for a bit. "Take her to see flowers. She loves them. And you know what they say about the flower language!"
Syo was filled with glee. "Thank you Haruka! And thank Cecil for me since he told you beforehand!"
Haruka smiled and scrolled through her messages to make sure.
Haruka
Hey, what's your dream confession?
(Y/N)
A confession under the trees! It's old fashioned but you know how much I love historical romances! What about you?
Tokiya Ichinose
He always admired you. He knew that it would be out of character for him to deny his feelings. Since he found out you were studying at Saotome, he felt that you were so close, yet so far.
It's been almost three weeks since you two met. Over those weeks, you'd talk over phone and message about the randomest things. He knew the little things about you, from the characters you had trouble drawing with to the weirdest times you had come with chapter ideas.
His luck at love wasn't always the greatest. Whoever he had dated always fell out of love with him.
He hoped you would at least stay with him. Even if was for a while.
He set his pen down. This was the final draft for his love letter. The ink was dry. There was no changing it.
Tokiya Ichinose loves YN LN.

Hullo hullo.. I hope your having a nice day, I was wondering if you could do some Ranmaru headcanons reassuring his S/O that everything is okay even though she's gone through so much. You don't have to do it it's okay >-< I was having a bit of a rough day today.. Thank you so much in advance!!
Awww, darling. I hope everything is alright! I don’t know how long ago this was sent so I hope you’re doing well. Feel free to message us if you ever need someone to talk to 💙
Ranmaru
Tumblr media
I really can’t imagine Ranmaru being that good at comforting. At least, when it comes to words.
If something’s wrong with his s/o, of course he’d want to help. He has a rough exterior but he’s not a complete asshole. He just... doesn’t really know how to help. His juniors (Ren and Masato) are no help either.
He shows his affection more through his body, so he’d probably give you an (honestly a little brutal) hug while telling you not to worry about everything so much.
Probably saying some really sappy line like “Now that I’m here you don’t have to worry about shit like that.” or something about him pretty much taking you away and protecting you from everything you had gone through in the past, as well as shouldering the burden with you in the future.
Ranmaru himself has been through some really tough times with his fathers debt and his bands disbanding and he thinks you’re really strong for having gone through all that you have. And look at you! You’re still fighting, aren’t you? You’ve survived all of it. He’s really proud that you did because it gave him the chance to meet you.
If anything that had bothered you in the past ever came back to haunt you, you can bet he’d go fight them off. Even if it’s nightmares, he’ll be there to chas them away 💕💕
I hope this didn’t disappoint and as always have a lovely day!

My Little Partner
Warnings : Child Neglect
Otoya blinked again and again. His eyes roamed back from top to bottom and repeat it again to break his dumbfounded state and register the sentences to his mind. His right hand fumbled with the scroll on the mouse, up and down, up and down. As his eyes read it again, his mind had underlined several words. Age regrsssion, child, stress. His eyes stranded after reading for the fifth time to the figure beside him. His roommate was sitting in the corner on his bed. His body was curled with his knees raised and arms thrown on them. His face was also hiding behind his folded arms and for the first time after living with Tokiya, he saw how small he was.
At age 12, Tokiya knew something was wrong with his mind. Everytime he reached a certain stress level, he started to feel like throwing a tantrum and crying it all out loud. He wanted his burden, his responsibility off his shoulders for once and just showered with praise and soft things, like the blue flannel blanket his late grandfather gave him when he was 8. It has a blue bird embroidery with his name on one of its corner.
Tokiya was reluctant when his grandfather gave something as childish as a blanket to him, he felt he aged enough not to be pampered anymore, not that his parents care for him much, but his grandfather has stretched out the soft material with his equally soft smile. Tokiya took it into his hand, muttered a 'thank you', his first real gratitude, to his grandfather who patted his head. After said event, Tokiya slowly opened himself to his grandfather, never to his busy parents, and his grandfather in return gave the warmth he unconsciously has been longing all along. His grandfather breathe his final breathe when Tokiya was 10 years old, holding his prunny hands and feeling for the lost thudding of his artery in his wrist. He cried hard for the first time in his whole life. Then, there was nobody else to hold him when he was sad, nobody to teach him how to make a whistle from leaf, nobody to sneak in some snacks before sleep, nobody to read him story when he felt like he can't sleep, and most importantly, he felt alone.
A year after, Tokiya searched frantically after accidentally talking with a lisp to one of his home caretaker. He entered everything he felt, from wanting to get mad at everything to being pampered into google's search bar. His answer came in less than 5 minutes. Tokiya felt his shoulder slumped in distress. He is a Little.
-chapter break-
Age regression is when somebody reverts to a child-like state of mind, often as a coping mechanism for things like PTSD, depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. Basically age regressors are more at-peace and worry-free whilst in 'little space' (a term for when one is in said mindset). These people simply need breaks from the stress of being old and often have a childish personality even outside of regression.
Otoya had sighed as he remembered about yesterday's accident.
-chapter break-
"To~ki~ya~"
Otoya was running through the halls of bedrooms into his and Tokiya's shared room. The red head felt great today! He got a full score on one of his test, scored several goals at soccer, and finally bought the legendary bread in the canteen. The last thing be needed today is to tell everything to someone and that someone happened to reside in his bedroom.
He had been told repeatedly by his blue haired roommate to at least knock if he wanted to enter a room, even if it it was his own bedroom because he shared it. But Tokiya's advice just flew  away in his happy state. Otoya turned the knob and opened the door happily.
"Tokiyaaaa~ today I-"
Otoya immediately heard a loud gasp from inside. His eyes opened to see what was wrong and it just stared at Tokiya.
On his tidy neat bed sat Tokiya in a hoodie Otoya had bought for his birthday but apparently two sizes to big, a blue blanket, and tw-three bird dolls. The person in the middle of everything, he deemed as the owner, was ashen and pale with rosy cheeks. Tokiya's deep blue orbs were staring at him but Otoya saw something else in there. Like the pupil was a bit clouded and each eyes are larger than its normal size.
"I--uh--I will come back later!!!"
Otoya ran out of his room, never forgot to close it again, and just wander around aimlessly and trying to will his mind to snap back. What had he seen?
"Yo, Tokki!"
His head immediately snapped up to meet his friend. Ren Jinguuji was stood in front of him smiling, but different from the smile he thrown to his fans, with his orange hair in a ponytail. Masato, his roommate, childhood friend, and potential lover had told him to put it up rather than letting it free. To look tidier at least, Masato had said. Ren had argued that his lovely ladies prefer to see his hair free of tie yet he always tie it whenever they are in dorms.
"What's wrong, Tokki? Are you okay? Come to think of it, where is Icchi? Have you seen him?"
At the mention of his name, Otoya immediately answered as fluent as possible.
"Oh oh I'm fine!! Just thinking about today's dinner~ W-why are you searching for Tokiya?"
Ren's brow raised in confusion and Otoya had to gulp a lump in his throat. Who would he kidding? There is just no way Ren would buy a lame excuse as that. When Ren sighed, he wondered if his acting had taken up into a new level or it was just Ren trying to be nice.
"I heard he has a hard time recently so I was about to see how he was doing"
"Oh, I see! No wonder Tokiya is sleeping early~"
Otoya would praise his mouth for thinking of such a wonderful excuse. But still that didn't cover or gave him a hint on what he saw in his bedroom.
"Oh? That is a surprise~ Why don't we prank him with another marker again? I am running of blackmail phot-"
"Ah! I forgot to buy tonight's ingredient! How about Ren accompany me?"
Ren's brow creased deeper.
But Otoya didn't cower down and used his puppy face, something he knew no one had ever able to say no to.
"O...kay..."
"Great!"
Then Otoya practically drag the taller boy down to the minimarket while messaging Tokiya when would it be alright to come back to his room.
-chapter break-
At 8 p.m Tokiya had replied his message. I'm sorry and I'm fine. But when the clock hit 9 o'clock that was when Otoya finally strolled back to his room from Syo's and Natsuki's bedroom.
The hallway was quiet at night, devoid from any voice except for some cicadas and frogs singing with the moon shining upon them. Just like a spotlight specially made for them. Also the sound of his sandal hitting the wooden floor beneath him was his only companion. As he gotten neared his door, Otoya noticed that there was no light coming from inside. He frowned. Tokiya always slept at least at 10 o'clock or sometimes after midnight and wake up before him. Was he really that tired as Ren had said or probably because Otoya saw the inside of Pandora box?
The red haired man shook his head and opened the door slowly. As he had predicted before, the light was out. His roommate's body was lying on his bed but there was no soft snore or sign of him sleeping.
Otoya took several feet to his partner's bed.
"Toki-"
"Otoya"
Otoya's breathing hitch
"I will explain tomorrow. Please"
His heart cracked when he heard Tokiya's pleading tone. He remembered Tokiya's exasperated noise often, his laugh several times, his awed voice everytime Nanami finished a song, and Tokiya's soft snore when he was deep asleep. But never did he heard something akind to this.
With heavy heart, Otoya turned on his heel and readied himself to bed. He prepared for a night with no sleeping. But today's event proved him wrong as he was taken into a blissful sleep in less than an hour, leaving his partner awake on the bed opposite his.
In the morning, Otoya had prepared for the awkwardness to settle in. Otoya was awoke naturally, not because of Tokiya mother-hen mode for once, and seen his partner's bed empty. Otoya readied himself and went to the hallway where his missing partner was with Masato, Syo, and Camus. As soon as their eyes met, the bluenette stopped and strode to Otoya. His head bowed down, then as they passed, Otoya felt a paper was given.
"Finish your breakfast first" Tokiya muttered beside him
Then as soon as they met, Tokiya was gone.
"What happen just now?"
Syo asked making Otoya startled. The paper given was quickly shove into his pocket.
"A-ahhh, Tokiya said that he wanna practice something again. I-I'm hungry~ Masaaa where is the food??"
Masato huffed and handed him his share of sanma. The other might realize something was going on, but never did they speak about it ever again.
Then here they were, in their shared room. Otoya looking over his friend who was still curled against the wall on his bed.
'Age regression' Otoya thought 'Tokiya was stressed enough'
Otoya slowly walked into where his partner was and climbed the short bed. Tokiya's figure flinched as soon as the bed cover pulled against Otoya's weight. Otoya placed his hand on top of Tokiya's left arm.
"Toki...."
Tokiya's gripped on his own arm tightened
"Toki...I don't mind, you know?"
Tokiya looked up from his hiding place. Otoya heart broken in pieces when he saw red puffy eyes and tear marks in his cheeks. And....yeah. Otoya didn't mistaken the size of Tokiya's widening pupil. If Tokiya ever smile it would be very pretty, not that usual Tokiya's smile not pretty or anything. But Otoya could picture Tokiya in a child-mindset smiling up at him.
"Can I be your caretaker?"
Otoya blinked. Tokiya too blinked. Was that his voice just now?
"U-um.. I mean... it is stated that a Little has to have someone to take care of them when they are in their child mindset. So, I'm thinking if you need one I can help"
He scratch the side of his temple, one of his nervous quirk. Not that the others realized about his habit.
"Y-you want to? Am I not weird?"
"No! Not at all! Everyone has their own coping mechanism and if Tokiya's is being a little than it is fine"
Tokiya blinked unsure at him
"I mean it, ya know? If you think that I am not competent enough, should I call Ms. Yukine from Sunshine Orphanage to tell you my babysitting record?"
Now he was snickering. Tokiya sure did know that Otoya was raised in Sunshine orphanage by Ms. Yukine after his parents got into an accident on a young age. Tokiya also had listened to Otoya's rambling about Chii-chan and Juno-kun adventure time, Shunichi's bug collection, Totoko's singing and dancing talent, and other kids he had growned up with. There was no doubt that Otoya was experienced enough with kids.
"Tokiya?"
Otoya called when the bluenette in front of him didn't do anything.
"Okay"
"Okay?"
"Be my caretaker.....please"
Otoya smiles his thousand dollar watt and glomped his usually cold friend and partner. Tokiya gave a stifled yelp and followed Otoya's giggled.
"Thank you, Otoya" Tokiya said from Otoya's chest.
"You are welcome, Tokiya~"
-chapter break-
The day after their battle with QUARTET NIGHT, STARISH was given a week off. They were physically and mentally exhausted after preparing for their concert. Now that everything settled, each of them sighed heavily full of relieve. They didn't bother to eat dinner or anything, it was 9 p.m, and strode to their room with a simple 'night' to each other they met.
Ren raised his brow when he saw a red head figure playing with his cellphone in their living room.
"Otoyan? You are not sleeping?"
The red head snapped their head to Ren and waved his hand.
"I will be in 10 minutes~ Just need to boil some milk for a goodnight sleep"
Ren chuckled at the A class student's antic and childish personality
"Right then. I will be going first, ciao"
Then Ren left him, not knowing the existence of a baby bottle in Otoya's hand.
Otoya slipped back into his room with a warm bottle of milk in his hand. After entering his room, his hand locked their room in habit.
"Tokiyaaa, I'm here"
Otoya giggled when he saw a blanket covered lump shaking from laughing. The blanket was soft blue color, the one Little Tokiya had described as his back snuggled against the smaller one's chest. Although the clothe wasn't big enough now, Tokiya still tried to cover his body with it which made him just adorable.
Right now, Little Tokiya was covering his body with it, but his legs were jutting out. Otoya walked to where they were and tickled Tokiya's feet. The reaction was a high pitch laugh and the boy's body curled inward to protect his ticklish part.
"Ahahahahaha, 'toyaaaa, sto-ahahahaha, nyohohaha pl-please ahahahaha"
After 30 seconds, Otoya stopped his ministration and uncovered Little Tokiya. His face was glistening with sweat and rosy cheeks.
"Come on, Toki~ It's time for your warm milk and bed time story"
"It's night already?"
"Yup! And it's time to sleep~"
The man scrambled to sit near the headrest but leaving enough space for his caregiver sitting behind him, a position Tokiya loved so much. When Otoya discovered it, he almost hug Tokiya from behind even when he was Big. Sometimes he wanted Tokiya to sit on his lap.
The excited 5 year old, Tokiya also told him it was the time he realized his parents didn't dote him like a normal parent should and time when he acted like Hayato, patted Otoya's space, telling him to hurry up.
Otoya clambered to his place and boxed Tokiya's body with his legs and arms. Tokiya placed his head on the juncture of Otoya's right shoulder and neck while Otoya himself located his head on Tokiya's left, easily placing little smooches there.
His hand took the bottle he had put on Tokiya's bedside table and gave it to the five year old. Tokiya happily drinked his warm milk while Otoya busy hugging his cute partner.
After finishing his nightly beverage, Tokiya placed his bottle back, Otoya figures that Tokiya was a very polite child from the start, and slumped back against Otoya, head nuzzling against Otoya's neck.
"Still hungry, Toki?"
His Toki shook his head
"Oookay~ Have any story you would like to hear?"
"Ummm....astronomy?"
Another fact was Tokiya very very extremely fond with anything about astronomy and myths. Otoya felt challenged each time.
"Hum... ah! I know! Have you heard the gossip about the moon and the sun?"
"No"
"Righty, you see Toki, the sun and the moon were once best friend. The sun is attracted at moon because it has such a unique shape while the moon is attracted to sun's shine and brightness. But then-"
Otoya continued his story for around 5 minutes before he heard a soft snore against his neck. He stopped his story and pecked Tokiya's head. He carefully repositioned their body so they could snuggle comfortably. When he was finally positioned lying on his side with his front against Tokiya's backside, he tightened his arms on Tokiya's waist to bring them closer. Tokiya unconsciously leaned back to Otoya's warmer body.
Smiling again, Otoya spoke softly
"Goodnight, baby"

okay I NEED to write a post that’s not just me taking the piss out of my mind palace and I need to write it like RIGHT NOW because I WANT to admit that there are things I’ve said that I think could be better or more accurate. there ARE bits and pieces I’ve neglected . and there are things that I haven’t articulated yet that I want other people to KNOW ABOUT!!!!
like with things other than himself masato’s poker face kind of sucks. with his older brother he’s way more open about how he feels, but he’s still not saying some critical SOMETHING. masato and tashiro, sometimes, occasionally, (frequently) just talk very easily. their dynamic is like astonishingly….. nuanced? like some days it’s taaaaashiiiiiiiiroooooo-kuuuuunnn and other days it’s
Tumblr media
and some days, in my mind, masato is sitting very quiet and still watching tashiro do nothing in particular, and he’s torn between wanting to run away and stay right where he is until he stops breathing, or at least until his heart stops beating so damn hard.
and I definitely haven’t highlighted enough how legitimately functional and . well. “normal” . masato is externally despite his nights being plagued by dreams. or how so much of his angst is because, despite everything, he’s still just as young at heart as his friends are. in the space of his family, he’s still just a kid. he’s not unflappable he gets flustered and caught off guard he’s silly and expressive but he’s hard as hell to read sometimes. he lurks around corners. he’ll oscillate wildly between reflective and flippant. he’s PETTY.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
he’s someone younger brother, and he’d rather be at his death bed than admit whatever fundamental something it is that he’s avoiding so hard.
like it’s. meaningful, that’s something I haven’t really gotten to. it’s meaningful that masato is always a few steps away from death, or half a dozen steps past it. he can even wear a detectives hat—it might be the only way he would ever, EVER open up. like. I’m going to loosely quote sunnnfish’s textbook but You can do things to a dead body that you can’t do to a living one.
but I also think that if I went back and altered the. dirtbrain hanzashiro canon, I guess. I’d make it easier to remember that masato isn’t 100% steeped in miseries. because I definitely think that I make it sound like that. like I should say that I don’t revel in his misery. not because it’s true necessarily but because I put so much of myself in front of and also into him that it reflects badly on me if I don’t. but anyway he still has his fun his distractions work it’s just that he’s plagued by dreams. the river is the metaphor for his burdens. that’s the bottom line. so it’s not that he’s being plagued by feeling nervous AND the river. they’re the same. the river is a prominent image in his mind, as it is in mine, but when he thinks of it he’s not thinking of it as the physical manifestation of his burdens, he’s not tying them to the river. they’re distinct in his mind, because he refuses self reflection.
also I’d play into the crime scene thing more. I like masato I want him to have fun and I think he deserves to wear a detective’s hat and dance around dgs holmes style. even if he does still have that massive puncture wound in his chest. even if he is still bleeding all over. like masato’s a weirdo but he’s not in isolation, is what I mean. not practically. he isolates HIMSELF but that’s because he’s ashamed of his vulnerability, not because of any external rejection. he has fun, still, but when he grows quiet, when his eyes open, when his expression is, ironically, even harder than usual to read, he’s being burdened by himself. but otherwise it is out of sight out of mind and hanzawa masato does so enjoy being silly and weird.
the thing, though, is that tashiro, from his outside perspective, DOES think of the river as it’s own entity. how could he not. he hasn’t been filled in yet on the things masato’s been putting up with in that freaky head of his, so he thinks of a river washing hanzawa senpai up like any regular corpse and it’s.. scary! if he could, masato would dance around his own corpse, investigating the lividity and wound in his chest with detached enough vigor, but tashiro isn’t like that. tashiro CAN’T be like that. tashiro had been surrounded by red lighting, flickering, buzzing, and saw the body in the water, and decided that he was here to do something, and he went and pulled him out and bandaged him up. which is a scene I’ve been struggling to write. and obviously “decided” is a bit misleading, because there was nothing else to do. like what sort of demon would tashiro have to be to see someone floating down a river in a scary environment like this and just LEAVE them there?
it’s like as far as chronology goes tashiro’s interactions with the river are complicated. because in MY chronology like as in the order they were written by me. in my capacity as writer. tashiro’s in reality first, only seeing trace unrealisms following masato around (the lanterns in the hallway, the blue hour, etc.) but in THEIR chronology. tashiro, who’s unacquainted with dreams mostly, suddenly is viscerally aware that he’s in one, and there’s a river in it. and while I haven’t gotten to saying so explicitly yet, like with a lot of things, the closest tashiro gets to being in the river is a dangled foot over the side of the pavement, skimming it. not taking a proper step into that world, but getting a feel for it. and then he takes hold of masato’s wrist, then hand, and pulls him out of the murk. bandages him up. mapping intimacy, hands brushing against masato’s ribcage.
and it’s obvious for me to say, I live in my brain and all of these details click together in ways that are mostly going unnoticed, this is before any realizations are fulfilled on tashiro’s part. he’s doing this because he found hanzawa senpai basically Dead in a river and he could help. he’s doing this because he’s himself. he’s doing this because he has no idea why else he would be here.
it’s just like. dirtbrain’s hanzawa to tashiro is a struggle between my capacity as a writer and my understanding that I could tell the story I want to tell so much better in a visual medium that I don’t have access to. so basically while I work out my own shortcomings everyone join hands with me so we can send harusono sensei psychic pleas for news on hanzawa to tashiro. or at least the over 10000 words on hanzawa masato. etc.

Anon asked: Starish reacting to their senpai in QN trying to steal their s/o, and how far they'd go to keep s/o from being taken.
(I'm going to say that obviously the only yandere in this senario will be the STARISH boy of choosing. Though I'm also fine with doing senarios that invole multiple Yanderes. Just ask or say that in your request~.)
Otoya Ittoki:
Otoya always disliked the friendly comments his Senpai would always give to his one and only. So he quickly picked up the first flirtatious ones. It was surprising since you would think someone as innocent as Otoya wouldn't really know or understand those things right away, but I guess you learn those things to protect the one you love.
As soon as Otoya noticed it though he quickly did everything he could to make sure you'd never see his senpai again. When he would have to do idol work with him, you would be locked up in the nearest storage closet out of sight.
If he was afraid of his senpai personally reaching out to you then he wouldn't be afraid to lock you in a room somewhere far away with no technology at all. Somewhere where only he knows, out of world sight forever.
Natsuki Shinomiya:
It's a bit more harder for his senpai to make a move without doing some research first, yet it happened eventually. Naturally Natsuki found out with how close he is to you. It greatly displeased him to find out what his senpai was doing towards you. Though he didn't really see it as a threat until you started answering back.
He felt heartbroken at the sight of it. He always imaged that you were the most loyal person on the earth, but he instantly noticed those little gestures and signs you made back to his senpai. How could you do this to him? He thought your relationship was perfect.
So, by natural loving instinct he made sure his senpai could never win over your heart again. He would unplug his power cord at night, put heaters around him secretly doing shows and viewings. Just ruin him. Eventually it got so bad that his senpai didn't have the time nor energy to try to win your heart, though at least Natsuki will always be there! And have your heart!
Masato Hijirikawa:
By knowing how his groupmate Ren is, then it was pretty obvious for him to instantly notice the first sign. Masato wasted no time in making sure you never see his senpai again. Quickly he made a room just for you!
With plenty of locks and bolts on the door that only he can open. In a secluded place where no one will dare to look. It's perfect too since it will also take you away from that horrible flirtatious ginger!
A place where only he will see you and all your beauty, this was the perfect time to do it!
Tokiya Ichinose:
It didn't take long for him to notice his senpai's behavior towards you. It frustrated him quite a bit as well. Especially since it was so hard to trick you into believe he was such a horrible person! Of course through digging and lies Tokiya was able to do it, but... it was such a long ride.
The first lies he told made you suspicious. You couldn't see his goofy senpai in a horrible light at all. Yet Tokiya persevered and kept at it. He did not give up until you realized how awful his senpai was.
Honestly by the time you were convinced you did all you could to stay out of his senpai's way and eyes. Though all of those lies became a burden as well since you believed them to be true, and you didn't want to ruin his senpai's career by such things. So the only person you could find comfort in was Tokiya.
As he was the only other person that knew these truths.
Syo Kurusu:
It took a bit for Syo to notice, but once he did. Oh boy, did his senpai not hear the end of it. Syo wouldn't shut up about it. He would so obvious shield you away from his senpai and forcibly pull you away from him.
If he didn't think that was enough for it to stop then he would put you in a room for days on end until you remembered who you truly loved with all your heart. The only person who could protect you from the dangerous people out there. Him. Not his senpai.
Oh, he would mess around with his senpai too. Slowly finding out how to erase his memory and such. Don't worry though, he's doing this to protect you!
Ren Jinguji:
Of course being the flirt he is he can notice the first hint of flirting in a blink of an eye. Oh, and how much he hated it. The only person that could ever flirt with you was him. Not his senpai, not anyone else at all.
So? What did he do? Of course he made it obvious that you were his. Stating in every show and live performance he did that you were his. Openly flirting with you in public turned into long makeout session infront of his work buddies.
The relationship definitely got more heated, and you ravished in it. He would always whisper in your ear how much he loved you and how no other man could make you feel this way besides him.
Quickly there was no need for him to do anything drastic to his senpai, as he secured his place in your heart, and lost his senpai's interest.
Cecil Aijima:
Again, he notices right away when someone is trying to get a little to close to his princess. Did his senpai really ever thought there was a chance between the two of you? Of course not! He's a fool for trying to win your heart.
So, what does Cecil do? Of course he does everything in his power to make sure that frozen knight goes back to his home country, and stay there forever. How does he do this though? Possibly by creating a slight war between the two countries.
Except, one will definitely not be able to recover from it. Oh, and where are you through out all of this? By your prince's side of course! Most likely locked up in a cage or something of the sort.

“You’re drifting.”
“Drifting?”
“What are you afraid of?”
“..Myself.”
“Hm.. Can’t relate.”
Gloved fingers intertwine loosely in a motion of comfort and the original palette jostles faintly. Corbenik’s at least earned a laugh from his host, as soft and melancholic as it is. The whole idea of compassion is still a weird sensation for him, but hours and hours of self-reflection told him that he had been compassionate since the very beginning. No AI would have sacrificed themselves two-fold like he did just from purpose alone. Still, laughter is infectious, and the Rebirth finds a faint smile crawling along his lips briefly ( ovan should laugh more.. it’s easiest to tell how he feels when he laughs, but at least he smiles ).
Cyan hues peer down, tracing at the contours of cross-hatched fingers with his gaze. The twin gunners are both occupying the floor of Corbenik’s study, a loose circle of tomes decorating their fields of vision. Despite the swapped palettes, the both of them match the overall color theme the epitaph was loosely going for, even though they’re just sitting on their knees with their hands together.
In other words, it was picture-perfect blackmail.
Even then, Corbenik was the only person who could see what was going on inside Indou Masato’s head at any given moment. He tended not to more often than not, but such a rare closeness would be nowhere occurring without that caveat of being someone’s epitaph. Snow white locks shifted some as he shook his head gently, breaking himself of a fruitless train of thought.
“Good, you’re still in there,” Corbenik hums softly.
He finds a wry smile on his host’s lips. He doesn’t want to be, but he’s refraining from saying it aloud. Ovan doesn’t even have to speak if he doesn’t want to--Corbenik could easily have a perfectly fluent, one-sided conversation with his thoughts alone. However.. that wasn’t as beneficial as the association of one’s lips parting to voice the very same words. They both knew that.
The both of them also knew that he’d awoken from another nightmare--a messy one, it seemed, rather than just a recollection of the past coming to haunt him. Ryou must have been sleeping at his apartment again ( he’d ask why they hadn’t just moved into the terror’s spacious apartment together, and it seemed more or less a family political matter more than anything. it was safer to have two havens than one in the event something broke down. corbenik chanced to call it a fear of commitment once or twice ), or else Ovan wouldn’t be here at near three in the morning in real world time, looking horrendously tired and restless all at once. That was when Corbenik decided to take the discussion to the floor while Masato tried to collect his thoughts, reaching for his epitaph’s hands.
It was almost amusing how often people forgot Ovan was really just a human with emotions, too, craving comfort in moments of weakness. Ryou must have been incredibly tender when he was there. Good for him.
But, he’s not here right now, or Corbenik wouldn’t be the one comforting the blunet in front of him.
“What was it this time? You’re still breathing shallow,” he asks softly, making little sense of the split-second flashes of imagery he can probe as Ovan remains silent to find a decent synopsis he can remember. His captured digits tighten faintly as he tiredly mutters what he remembers.
“..A very dark part of me stepped into memories and tore them apart, brutally.. It swallowed the me that was present in those places..and took out that self-loathing on the people that mattered in them,” Ovan explained, “..it was so brutally detailed down to the very discolorations of gaping wounds. I didn’t think it was possible to cling to details like that.”
“You’ve always been one to nitpick the details, Masato.”
“..I suppose..”
“Was it AIDA?” It wouldn’t have been the first time he had coaxed him from an AIDA-induced nightmare.
“..I would usually assume so, but.. why would I feel the need to kill the same people I want to protect? ..it doesn’t trigger like that, ever. ..rarely is it the aftermath, but still.” He hangs his head, bright blue locks falling forward in what could only be described as self-directed shame. No, it’s not AIDA--this is different, and that’s why he’s so strung up about it. Masato couldn’t reason himself back to sleep. He’s been stumped.
Corbenik purses his lips some in thought. He’s taken to reading up on dream interpretation often, both for Ovan’s sake and his own. Feeling the burden of his partner’s guilt and shame ( which was getting better, he had to comment to himself ) weighed in on what it be might representative of. “Maybe it’s a reflection of you.”
Ovan’s silent at the suggestion, slate hues also trained on their hands, unmoving. The trace of AIDA had a vicegrip on his need to never lose sight of the people he loves the most, but it was no longer the true reflection of himself after the Rebirth, and the ensuing purification of <Tri-Edge>. Even so, Corbenik was one of those reflections--or else they wouldn’t have been paired in the first place--so the only other logical description was that it was a dark reflection of Masato himself.
“..all of your negativity manifesting itself to wreak havoc on everything once precious to you. If you weren’t you, I would venture to say you’re stressed out, but..”
“The fact it was so unsolicited makes me think that it’s trauma-induced,” Ovan believes, but he’s vexed by it. His brain was doing a good job of working against him and funneling these emotions into a knife to stab into himself. It was one of the things that perplexed Corbenik as an AI. The human body suppresses these things for the sake of homeostasis, but loses itself when those same suppressions are left alone for too long. Yet.. how was the conscious supposed to know that? Only the subconscious could rear that ugly head--yet, without the rationality of the conscious, dream manifestations run awry to the point that it’s too damaging to sit through.
What a mess--a fascinating mess.
With Masato’s track record, Corbenik didn’t expect any less from that prolonged, compounded grief, rage, sorrow, and shame. So many shades of the same feeling ( pain ), it made sense it would combust in fond memories. It was Corbenik’s turn to give a lopsided smile.
“You’re so hellbent on erasing yourself, but you push it away so much that it comes back twice as hard, no?”
To this, he spies the other’s chest expanding as he holds his breath. Back to the guilt, the shame, the knife created solely to make him bleed. He felt like he deserved it--that edge of selfishness bit hard at him, but it was also part of the reason why Masato fought back so often, too. He wasn’t about to throw away everything he’d built from then on after getting a second chance. Ovan’s sheer will was what drew Corbenik in all those years ago.
He had never stopped fighting, and when he did, he had hit the ground running again.
How admirable, came a gentle thought as grey-tipped gloves untangled themselves from umber, soon burying themselves in much longer, brighter locks. Corbenik shifted as slate blue watched with careful detail, and soon, he was sitting with his legs crossed, pulling the other obliging gunner to rest his head in his lap. It wasn’t often the epitaph was affectionate, but there were few that he paid no mind to when it came to being gentle. Besides, it was all too easy to give what his host wanted, which was both a place to rest, and the sensation of fingers tousling his hair.
“..I’m not sure of what I want for myself, so I resort to destroying anything I can within me in that moment of conflict, huh,” Ovan mutters tiredly from the epitaph’s lap, his cheek pressed against his thigh. Corbenik continues to play with his hair, and it causes Ovan’s eyes to flutter despite his stoic expression.
“That’s one way to look at it,” the rebirth offers, “Whatever explanation feels right to you is more than likely the answer.”
His answer satisfied the other’s doubts for now as the tired gunner closes his eyes once more. “..I don’t know how to dispel one or the other,” he mutters, to which Corbenik tilts his head, demonic hues softening. Always searching for an answer--that was so like him.
“You’ll come to discover it in time, Masato,” he assures him quietly, “Now rest.. you won’t have to carry the remainder alone. I’ll be with you.” He feels the body against him relax some, much to his relief. He didn’t think sleeping with an M2D on was the most comfortable thing in the world, but, it wasn’t like Masato could feel it on most of the time anyway. Still, there was the assurance of not being alone. Humans were strange like that, Corbenik frowned some, realizing his own attachments were driven by what he had picked up from humans as well. The need to be near another.. it was unnerving that only some could operate ( or fool themselves into believing that could operate ) on their own. Masato must have been one of the ones that couldn’t, but had to. ..It was a wonder he kept going, the stubborn man. Still.. that was part of the reason why he was magnetized in the first place. The least Corbenik could do is provide him the companionship he needed while he tried to figure out himself. Time was on their side, after all.
“..Sleep well.”

Sup, I've been silently lurking and liking stuff on your blog for atleast 1 year now (I can't exactly remember when, I just know that it's probably a year now if not then almost a year) and I love your art so much. Your MineDai art is lovey and funny (and what introduced me to you), but seriously... you creating MasaDai art is the wish I didn't think would happen and thank god it did. I see it as a crack ship and almost no one ships it from what I've seen before, so to have someone do some art is great and it's from you so it's more lovely. The moment I saw Masato's emo looking punk ass and know that he is around the same age as Daigo, then dressing up in a more formal way in his later years... I knew this can be a ship, a funny one even (and even funnier with Ichi and others). Thank you for this blessing.
Anyways, I love your art and it always makes me laugh or atleast smile. Ngl, it also did motivate me to keep improving and practicing to draw better 💙. And maybe create some fanart as well when I'm finish being shy 😅 lol
(Ps. I noticed something and I find it funny how people tend to (mostly) ship Daigo to characters that are canonically dead or never to be seen again after their appearance in one canon game XD. Like bro's romantic life is a mess, they be leaving or dropping like flies. Okay that's it, bye bye. Have a good or atleast a decent night/day. 🤗)
hi howdy lurker, thanks for stickin round so long ! :^)
ALWAYS happy to hear people likin my stuff and how it can make their day better whether it's makin em laugh or it's just something they can look at and go 'oh sweet', it's my main drivin force for drawin so much so i'm glad to hear it every so often ^^
SAME ON MASATO/DAIGO THO i remember playing Y7 and my immediate reaction to masato was just that he was like daigo if rgg leaned more into him being goth and it KO'd me. i just needed them to be A Thing immediately- AND THE FACT HE DOES BRUSH UP AND 'BECOME DOMESTICATED' IS SOOOOO (masumi saying that they should think similar to each other since they're about the same age is, while very VERY small, does feed my delusions more too so that's always fun). i can't even blame people for not expanding on their potential more though: masato already is a controversial character to talk about, so trying to discuss him for too long kinda gets awkward. i'll be the freak soldier willing to bear that burden of loving him tho 🫡
i could talk hours and write essays about masadai so i'll spare you the rest of the ramble: it makes me so happy to hear people pick up drawing more after following me 😭❤ art's so fun and it's always great seeing what other people can make and do, and it's such a personal experience so whenever i get to be a part of that somewhat it makes me overjoyed :') i'd love to see what you make if you ever want to share it with us anon 🤭 but no pressure, i get being shy about wanting to share things you draw, so even if you never post anything just know i'm still supportin you and what you do and i hope you're havin fun !

When you first came to Japan, you viewed it as a second chance, an opportunity to change yourself. You were determined to overcome your social anxiety disorder, but when school started, your resolve shattered. On the first day at school, you spent more than half the day in the bathroom, trying to keep yourself together. The other kids tried to talk to you, interested in your life back in America, but despite yourself, you could only apologize and run away.
After a while, people stopped trying to talk to you and the year passed in complete solitude. You didn’t know what to do anymore. You had tried so hard, but your body always betrayed you. When confronted with another human being, your brain perceives them as a threat to your life. Without questioning it, your body believes these signals and activates fight-or-flight mode.
Every night before bed, you’d vow to try harder, to do better, but the next day would arrive and nothing changed.
The bell rung, making you jump from your thoughts. Your classmates chatted happily as they gathered their things and left the room. You were on cleaning duty today, so you stayed behind, waiting until everyone had left before getting started.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
You glanced at the front of the room where two of your classmates stood. Ai Masato was blocking the door, giving a stern look to Akemi Asakawa who was attempting to leave.
“I’m going to be late!” Akemi whined, jutting out her bottom lip.
Ai didn’t budge, folding her arms over her chest. “I’m sure the kendo team will understand. You’re on cleaning duty with Y/N-san.”
“I’m not worried about them!” The blonde waved her cell phone. “My boyfriend is taking me out on a date this afternoon.”
“He can wait, too!” Ai scowled, pushing up her glasses.
Akemi wanted to argue but decided that doing so with a member of the student council wouldn’t end well for her. “Fi~ne,” She placed her bag on the desk, motioning for you to follow. “Let’s go,”
With nervous steps, you followed the girl to the supply closet to gather the things you would need. Ai was gone when you both returned to the room. You set the broom and dustpan against the wall before starting to move the desks to the back of the room. You had just picked up the third one when Akemi called out to you, startling you – you nearly dropped the desk but tightened your grip just in time.
“Hey, Y/N? Are you dating anyone?”
The question shocked you and your heart picked up speed. Why was she asking you such a thing? You tried to keep your mind on the task at hand as you quickly shook your head no.
She frowned. “Well, dating someone is really special! When you miss dates, it puts a strain on the relationship, you know?”
You stayed silent, setting another desk against the back wall.
She didn’t like your silence and moved to stand in front of you, clapping her hands together. “I just can’t miss this date. You can handle this alone, right? I promise to pay you back later!”
You swallowed hard, feeling ice creeping through your veins. Your heart felt like it was going to burst out of your chest. She was far too close to you and it was getting hard to breathe. You closed your eyes and nodded your head frantically, wishing everything would just stop.
“Thank you so much!”
You heard rustling, the door sliding open and then closed, and then silence. Your knees buckled under you and you fell back onto the linoleum floor. It took a while for your body to stop shaking enough to continue cleaning. ‘It’ll be really late by the time I get home…’ you thought with a frown, picking up the dustpan. Still, you were thankful for the solitude and silence.
An hour slowly ticked by and you were still cleaning. ‘I just have to put the desks back and I’m done,’ your stomach growled in protest. You picked up a desk to move it when the door slammed open with force, a loud voice echoing in the room.
“Damn it, what’s taking you so long?!”
You squeaked in surprise, nearly jumping out of your skin. The desk slipped from your hands, landing hard on your foot before falling over and taking your body with it. The pain and noise echoed throughout your body. Still rattled from earlier, you began to shake violently.
“Shit, are you okay?” Maya Yokoo, a third-year student, rushed over to you, kneeling down next to your form. “Are you hurt?”
Her voice was loud in your ear and you flinched. You felt so overwhelmed and scared. Tears pricked your eyes, sliding down your flushed cheeks. Your ankle was throbbing in time with your heart.
Maya started to panic. “Ah, please don’t cry! It’s alright!”
“I’m s-so-rry,” you cried out. You’d give anything to just disappear.
“Sorry for what? You didn’t do anything wrong!” Her eyes scanned your trembling form down to your ankle, which was bright red and beginning to swell. With a nod, she leaned forward and slipped her arms under your back and knees. She picked you up like you were a feather.
You instinctively froze in shock, clinging to her kendo uniform. You had never been in this situation before with someone carrying you. Your heart skipped a beat at the warmth radiating from her body. She brought you to the nurse’s office, setting you gently on the bed and quickly explaining to the nurse what had happened. The nurse nodded in understanding, giving you a reassuring smile before examining your ankle.
She hummed. “It doesn’t appear to be broken, but you should go to the hospital to be sure. I’ll call your older brother for you.” She patted your shoulder with a smile before walking away. You had been in her office plenty of times with your panic attacks, so she understood your issues and always did her best to assist you.
You stared down at your hands, seeing Maya standing beside the bed from the corner of your eye. You wanted to look at her, to thank her, to apologize, but your voice wouldn’t work and you couldn’t bring yourself to meet her piercing gaze.
She brought a chair over and sat down, brow furrowed. “Why were you cleaning alone? Where’s Akemi?”
Your hands clenched. Should you be honest and tell her that Akemi left? If you did that, the blonde might hate you, and you didn’t want that. You closed your eyes tightly, focusing on your words. “She wasn’t, um… she wasn’t feeling… well. I t-told her to… to go home.”
Maya narrowed her eyes, not believing your story at all. She considered demanding the truth from you, but she didn’t want to upset you again – you had only just stopped shaking.
The door swung open and your brother rushed inside, breathing heavy from his run. “Y/N! Are you okay?” You nodded, feeling guilt settle in your stomach; you felt like such a burden. “Come on, let’s get you to the hospital. Can you walk?”
“Um…” you scooted to the side of the bed, putting all of your weight on your uninjured ankle. Slowly, you transferred some weight to the other one. It was pretty sore, but you could walk slowly. You breathed a sigh of relief before turning toward Maya and bowing, hoping she understood your meaning, ‘Thank you.’
☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚: *⋆.*:・゚ .: ⋆*・゚: . ☁
The bell for lunch rang and you stretched your legs under the desk before standing up, manga in one hand and your lunch money in the other. Your brother worked too much to have the time to make you a lunch box and your cooking skills were deplorable.
‘Akemi wasn’t in class today… I hope I didn’t get her into trouble…’ you sighed, trying not to think about the events of the day before as you bought a bread roll and headed outside. There was a large, old tree on the side of the school where you spent all of your free time. The tree felt special to you because it always seemed to calm you down.
You sat on the grass and started to peel the sticker off of the bread roll.
“There you are!”
You jumped, dropping the roll on the grass. Maya was approaching fast, Akemi caught under her arm. You scooted back until you were flat against the trunk of the tree. ‘S-She looks so angry…’
Maya came to a stop in front of you. “Y/N, Akemi has something to say to you, don’t you?” She squeezed her arm, making the younger girl whine.
“But they said -” She stopped when Maya’s eyes narrowed and Akemi frowned, turning toward you and bowing. “I’m very sorry for ditching you yesterday!”
You quickly nodded, staring at the ground.
“Can I go now?” Akemi pouted, turning to the older girl.
Maya rolled her eyes, watching as the blonde walked away, eyes glued to her cell phone. She then turned to you, watching you curiously. She couldn’t understand why you refused to look at her or why you always acted so nervous. She had asked Akemi about you, but she only said that you were always alone.
“Sorry about her,” she apologized, sitting on the grass across from you. “How’s your ankle?”
“I-It’s okay…” you mumbled, absentmindedly picking at the blades of grass.
“That’s good! I was worried about you,”
Your eyes widened in surprise. ‘She was… worried about me?’ You could feel your cheeks growing warm at the thought.
She noticed this and smiled, feeling her heart skip a beat. ‘Y/N is so cute,’ she thought. “Hey, why don’t you come to our practice this afternoon?”
‘Practice?’ you were confused for a moment, tilting your head. ‘Oh, right, she’s on the kendo team, but… why would she invite me?’ you lowered your head, strands of hair falling in your face. How could you say no after she’s been so nice to you? On the other hand, just the thought of going made your anxiety raise several levels.
Maya frowned, reaching forward to brush your hair away from your eyes. Your head whipped up in surprise, eyes locking with her own. Her cheeks flushed at how beautiful they were. ‘No, Y/N isn’t cute, they are gorgeous. I want to help them open up!’ “Please!” she reached for your hand, pausing for a brief second before resting it on top of your own.
Your heart was pounding in your ears, face as red as a cherry. You were scared, but a part of you didn’t want to let go of her. ‘I… I want to change!’, tears sprung to your eyes, splashing onto the back of her hand as they fell down your face.
Maya bit her lip. ‘Shit, I made them cry again…’ “Look, you don’t have to if you -”
“I…” you interrupted her, turning your hand over and grasping hers tightly. “I want to go!”
Her lips pulled up into a smile, free hand brushing your tears from your cheek. “I’ll come to get you after class.”
The bell rang to signal the end of the lunch period.
Maya stood up, pulling you with her. “No more tears, okay?”
You nodded, rubbing at your eyes. For the first time in years, you smiled a bright, genuine smile. You didn’t know if things would actually change for you this time, but you felt more hopeful than you ever had.
