So people liked this Inuyasha post about PDA in Japan, as well as this post about (90s) Japanese culture in anime. Now, there are certain things anime/manga seem to overlook for artistic reasons, and a lot of cultural things that get taken for granted by the Japanese audience and subsequently never get explained. Although I’d like to think that everything would be covered by wikipedia and online forums, I figured there are always references that can be addressed, especially for new fans who didn’t grow up in the 90s.

But let us remember this old disclaimer: I was born at the tail end of the Japanese bubble economy, when video calls on our flip phones were ultramodern but laggy, and few believed the entire JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series would get an anime. Things have changed, yo.

i cant be fucked to go find the actual post but u guys know the "if miss piggy was on drag race she would absolutely bring up the fracking" post, and then the comment that's like of course she would her boytoy is an environmentalist

ok first of all that comment always throws me because i think the reason the image works so well is cause it's something you know she'd do of her own accord. like i don't think ms piggy has ever in her life done something bc she was taking someone else's opinion into consideration

but anyway. my point is it made me realize that part of the reason i liked and agreed with the og post so much is cause ive always just assumed that like. ok so ms piggy has the whole vintage early hollywood diva thing going on right, like her whole deal is she's an aging diva who was huge in the 1940s and now its the 1960s and her lustre has faded but the magic's still there. and this comes across extremely strongly in the way she acts

well because of that, i think i've always subconsciously assumed it was an implicit part of her backstory that she participated in the walkout during the hollywood red scare in 1947. of course she would bring up the fracking, she was an early face of american communism. she was huffing and throwing her shawl over her shoulder at the huac interrogation

We have 20 pages as a preview, out of a total of 80 that correspond to the doujinshi (my impression is that they are the first 20).

I've been waiting so long for this, since I saw this illustration by Hirano a few years ago

But it's so sad what they've let us see of this AU! The only thing that gives me comfort is that in the first page (with which they open the preview thread), it seems that they’re back to their normal and friendly dynamic and Kagi is determined not to let that blonde beauty escape again (and apparently Hirano is wearing his earrings again).

Truly there are panels that I find so distressing that I can't stop thinking that sensei likes to make them (and us) suffer, especially our dear Kagi.

It's saddening that they turn their backs to each other in this scene... The distance feels so paintful.

Or when Hirano looks into the distance as Kagi runs towards his success, away from him….

So I decided that rather than drowning in sorrow, I'd better point out how gorgeous they look!

Being a basketball player suits Kagi so well!

I love that he wears his hair back (as Hirano liked in extra from the movie)

Even when he's completely drunk he looks gorgeous!

He doesn't lose his precious boy aura!
