If there's anyone looking for the perfect cult setting, this 1880 Manor is it. 11bds, 5.5ba, $7.5M. Yes, it's pricey, but it's a total of 85 acres spanning 2 states.  The Main House is on the Sheffield, MA side of the property, (70+ acres), it has 11 buildings - an Auditorium, Group Meeting Areas, Offices, Fitness Center, Cottage, Dining Hall w/Commercial Kitchen, and over 56 Guest Rooms. The Salisbury, CT side is 11+ acres.

Very sadly the breyers were gone by the time I got to the estate sale. 😢 I was looking forward to them.

I did get these 2 books though. But overall this sale was a bust. Despite the house being dirty with most things coated in dust, they were still charging Greenwich CT prices since it was in Greenwhich. I don't think I would have gotten the breyers for under $100 anyway.

But I do feel like I know I bit more about Breyers and how to price them now, so I'll be on the lookout. There are a few on highbid.com that might be flippable.

I love your insights and agree that Jensen’s deal with Amazon seems to fit more like a actor’s holding deal. If I understand how those work, it’s where the studio pays the actor a salary for a year to hold them to try and find a role for him/her in a tv show or movie. Is that correct?

You’ve said Amazon doesn’t pay actors very well, so what is your guess to Jensen’s salary that Amazon is paying him? (Is that how he was able to afford a $10million mansion in Connecticut?)

Do those work like typical salaries (weekly/monthly) or because it was also tied to his production company, was that annual salary paid to him in an upfront sum with hopes the ackles would use the money to develop a project?

given the strike, the ackles cannot develop anything, do they have to refund any money back to amazon?

Thank you and yes, in typical holding deals the actor will receive a salary for at least one year while the studio finds a suitable project for them. Similarly, Jensen would get paid X amount of dollars for the term no matter what. He would get a check every month that comes out of the millions in his deal, this will go to pay for overhead of running Chaos Machine, including employee salaries., office space, etc. So any advanced money the Ackles received is their's to keep even if there are no project(s) for Amazon's original programming.

With that said, I highly doubt that the CMP received the typical starter $10 million for production overheads as the deal was to hire Jensen for his acting (and his fandom). Jensen may have received $1 million in retainer fee instead.

As for the Ackles' ~ investment in Connecticut, he's going to sell that house in a year or two to an Irrevocable Life Insurance Trust, then use the “sale” and the equity in the CT house to buy another house, just like he did with the Colorado house that was brought when he sold the Austin lake house (at half the market value) to the same trust. For example, if the Ackles put down at least 20% for the lake house, when the property’s value goes up by 20% (and it will), the Ackles have now made a 100% ROI and that’s before considering rents and tax write offs. Then when the houses like the lake house is sold for real in 10, 15, or 20 years, it will be sold at it's actual market price. It's a classic use of these types of trusts to make money by reaping the actual profit from the real sale and on top of the previous profit when the house was first sold into the trust. 

Jensen can easily never work again in his life just by living off his net worth, which I’ve speculated to be 20-25 million dollars and if he invest conservatively his net worth will double in ten years. While he's ~investing in real estates, I suspect his main source of passive income comes from investing in target-date funds, they’re a mix of stocks, bonds, and alternative assets and probably in a collection of mutual funds. If Jensen keeps to the common rule of withdrawal limit of 4%, he’ll have at least $1 million fuck-you money every year, more than enough to cover property tax and he and his family will be comfortably wealthy for the rest of their lives without working. But men need to work, hence why he pitched to WB the ideal of continuing SPN after Jared leaves.

A team at the University of Chicago created Nightshade, a tool that lets artists fight AI image bots by adding undetectable pixels into an image that can alter how a machine-learning model produces content and what that finished product looks like.

Nightshade is intended to protect artists work and has been tested on both Stable Diffusion and an in-house AI built by the researchers.

IBM's NorthPole chip runs AI-based image recognition 22 times faster than current chips - Tech Xplore; Bob Yirka

NorthPole combines the processing module and the data it uses in a two-dimensional array of memory blocks and interconnected CPUs, and is reportedly inspired by the human brain.

NorthPole can currently only run specialized AI processes and not training processes or large language models, but the researchers plan to test connecting multiple chips together to overcome this limitation.

Reddit met with generative AI companies to negotiate a deal for being paid for its data, and may block crawlers if no deal is made soon.

Note: Google searches for info on Reddit often seem more effective than searching Reddit itself.  If they are unable to make a deal, and Reddit follows through, it will be a legitimate loss for discoverability but also an incredibly interesting experiment to see what Reddit is like without Google.

Bandcamp’s Entire Union Bargaining Team Was Laid Off - 404 Media; Emanuel Maiberg

Bandcamp’s new owner (Songtradr) offered jobs to just half of existing employees, with cuts disproportionately hitting union leaders. Every member of the union’s eight-person bargaining team was laid off, and 40 of the union's 67 members lost their jobs.

Songtradr spokesperson Lindsay Nahmiache claimed that the firm didn’t have access to union membership information.

Mozilla gave the current state of digital privacy a 75.6/100, with 100 being the creepiest.

Every car Mozilla tested failed to meet their privacy and security standards.

Another castle house. I can't believe there are so many. The Castle of Joy was built in 2004 in Murphy, NC. 3bds, 4ba, and has a pending sale. Listed for $975k (Zestimate: $916,700). I didn't recognize the house, but I recognized the land- I posted it before. I think that the sale fell thru.

Not very castle-like. No grand entrance and a living room/kitchen combo.

Kitchen's not too bad, but it's a little dated. There's the primary bedroom visible right off the kitchen, and stairs to the lower level.

The primary has a faux finish on the walls, with doors to the porch.

The en-suite is a standard 3 pc.

This bedroom also has faux finished walls and a small en-suite, plus doors to the porch.

There's a hot tub under the open "turret" roof.

They have a pool room.

At the end of this hallway there's a bathroom.

And, then there's a fun bunk style bedroom for kids.

There are 2 table-for-two cubbies that kind of look like they were closets, previously.

And, there's another pool room off to the left. I really think that was a bedroom w/a sitting room.

And, a storage room w/an extra fireplace.

An outdoor foyer gate opens to the garden.

They have a party barn. It can be rented out as a wedding venue.

I'm guessin' this is where the couple and the officiante stand.

Heart-shaped pond.

There's a guest parking area.

Wow, do those chairs come w/the house or are they rentals?

The venue space is apart from the home.
