I really like the idea of the house of refuge showing up again because a mission just went THAT BAD
Cassandra: Oh, come on, Ezekiel, the mission couldn't have gone that badly!
Ezekiel: The house of refuge showed up.
Cassandra: Jesus christ, what did you DO
Just, a librarian running through the woods after the worst mission to date, only to run into the house of refuge just sitting there like 'damn, there's no fucking WAY things have gotten so bad that THE HOUSE OF REFUGE SHOWED UP FOR ME. FUCKK'

“NINE UNEMPLOYED GIVEN ACQUITTAL,” Montreal Gazette. January 6, 1933. Page 4. ---- Vitre Street Refuge Men Charged With Having Disturbed the Peace ---- SYMPATHIZERS ATTEND --- Evidence Shows Trouble Arose Over Desire to Have Relief Card Restored to Alleged Communist ---- Acquittal was given nine unemployed workers all inmates of the Vitre street day refuge by Recorder Aime Leblanc in the Recorder's Court yesterday on charges of having disturbed the peace. Their arrest followed in the wake of a rowdy meeting on December 2 last between a delegation of the unemployed workers receiving relief and G. B. Clarke, manager of the Protestant Relief Committee's offices on St. George street, over cancellation by the relief bureau of the relief card of an alleged Communist.
Evidence before the court showed that one John McMartin, branded by the police as a "Communist," had had his relief card cancelled by officials of the Protestant Relief Committee on December 1 last on the grounds that he was disseminating subversive propaganda amongst inmates of the Vitre street refuge. McMartin complained at the St. George street offices of the committee, and was told to see Mr. Clarke on the morrow during business hours.
The next day, McMartin, accompanied by a group of the unemployed receiving relief, turned up and asked to see Mr. Clarke. They affirmed that they comprised a "delegation," and wanted to protest against cancellation of McMartin's relief card. Their request was refused because they had not appeared during the specified business hours of the office, but the men became so persistent that Mr. Clarke was obliged to see them. He told them that their complaints would be Investigated, but they demanded the immediate renewal of McMartin's relief card. Surging into the office, the crowd of men is alleged to have become menacing, and the police were called.
Arrested on charges of "disturbing the peace by shouting outside of No. 1027 St. George street,” nine of the men faced the Recorder yesterday in chambers. Outside in the lobby was gathered a crowd of "sympathizers" estimated at some 60 in number.
DISTURBING OF PEACE. Following deposition of evidence, J. H. Blumenstein, attorney for the nine accused, asked that the charges against all men be dismissed. Complaints against them charged that they had disturbed the peace "outside" of the St, George street offices, he noted, but there was no disturbance there. What had happened - and it represented but the submission by the nine men of definite-demands to Mr. Clarke - had gone on inside of the offices.
"If a delegation waits on somebody and lays down certain demands, is that to be interpreted by the law as willful disturbance of the public peace?" Mr. Blumenstein asked.
Recorder Leblanc, in his judgment, acquitted all nine men.

Some of you may know that one of my focus areas of Civil War research is the military service of former reformatory inmates. I was recently amazed to stumble across this image of the officers and NCOs of Co. I, 38th New York Infantry. The drummer boy is Lewis Simons, a young German Jewish immigrant who spent time incarcerated at the NY House of Refuge for vagrancy prior to the war. Simons was just 14-15 when he enlisted in 1861. He ended his service in 1865 as a corporal in the 34th New Jersey. More info about Simons' life and service can be found at the Shapell Roster of Jewish Service in the American Civil War.

In a vibrant celebration embracing Filipino customs, The Manila Hotel kicked off the holiday season with its enchanting Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 9. This house is crazy and I want it so bad! It comes with Manatees! The 1960 house in Crystal River, Florida has a spring that goes thru the property that's a Manatee rescue and refuge protected by the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife. It's currently being operated as a bed & breakfast, but it doesn't have to be. 5bds, 5ba, and all the cool furnishings stay! $3.3M - it's pricey, but Manatees! Look at them all, right in the yard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bear in mind that all this great stuff conveys and look at the painted floor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Check it out, a blue fireplace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The kitchen's cute and it's quite large.
Tumblr media
This is a main floor bedroom and look at the manatee mural. They even have manatee bedding.
Tumblr media
There's seaweed painted on this bathroom wall. The murals are professionally done.
Tumblr media
The rest of the bedrooms and baths are on the 2nd floor.
Tumblr media
The upstairs bedrooms are just as cool. This is so pretty and it has bedding to match.
Tumblr media
The en-suite.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The owners really went all out with the decor.
Tumblr media
Small pirate bedroom is adorable for a child.
Tumblr media
This is another residence on the property and could be a guest house or caretaker's house.
Tumblr media
It's currently used as storage.
Tumblr media
Has a nice bath- love the shell sink.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And, there they are, the manatees swimming by in the heated spring- the water temp stays around 72 degrees year-round.
Tumblr media
Even the chimney on the fireplace has a mural and there's a roof top deck on the house.
Tumblr media
Seating around a fire pit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I thought that this was an outdoor fireplace, but I don't think it is.
Tumblr media
All of these boats convey so guests can take them out on the river.
Tumblr media
The property is .45 acre.
Tumblr media
I would say that there are so many homes around that they're probably private residences, rather than bed & breakfasts.

Egg Rock Light, Frenchman Bay, Winter Harbor, Maine. Until the lighthouse was built in 1875, Egg Rock was known for its massive amount of sea bird nests. Today ownership belongs to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and is managed as part of the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge. If you're boating about the Bar Harbor area, be sure to be on the look out for the numerous harbor seals and black guillemots that are usually loitering around the lighthouse today.

[Sometimes, through weariness or discouragement, no new thing arises. Sometimes, through pressure and anxiety, many old things overwhelm. Learn to wait... ...for the stirring or for the subsiding. Learn to wait, for the turmoil to be still, for the stillness to speak. Let memory recall times of taking refuge, times of setting forth anew. Bring to mind times of comfort or times of purpose. You have passed this way before. You have left markers along the way. Look for them. Go back to where you were. Begin again.]

Note
your eleventh fleet concepts are just *chef's kiss* as brilliant as they can be
Tumblr media
Thank you, littlekhada! Your art is also beautiful!
I will continue to develop the “Eleventh Fleet”. My drawings haven’t received such a response for a long time - it’s very motivating. Also noticed that your really liked Thrawn's design during his exile in Peridea. Well… I have an "attempt" to make concept art of a landscape of a distant planet. I wanted to make the Purgills' final refuge more… dead? ashen? atmospheric? Yes, that's probably exactly it.

"Ouverture du refuge catholique," La Presse. May 31, 1933. Page 3.
