The Funny bone🦴 Hot Dog🔥 Connection

remember that "funny bone was a fire dog before he became undead" theory i mentioned in the Funny bone headcanons post? this is that theory. click read more if you feel like reading my intense brainrot

ok, if you clicked read more, you understand what you're getting into, so strap in folks this is gonna be a long one.

first and foremost, their physical similarities, aka, what spawned this in the first place.

put the two side by side and you can probably already see what i'm talking about.

first one i'm going to talk about is head shape, especially the shape of the face

as i've outlined in the above image, both funny bone and hot dog have similarly pronounced brow lines, and both have a pug-like smushed in snout style, as well as very similarly proportioned eyes compared to the rest of the face. they even have similar arrangements of teeth, the only difference is funny bone having an extra two on the bottom jaw.

next up, the legs/torso.

as i have once again circled, the way their legs are shaped/situated are eerily similar. same paw shape, same number of toes, same claw style, same overall leg shape, the only reason hot dog looks any different is only one of the two has any meat on their bones, pun definitely intended. another of many similarities that cannot be ignored.

i used a different hot dog image for this one since the poses are more similar, to more easily outline their once again almost identical body shapes. of course funny bone being a skeleton does effect things a bit, but it's still clear that their bodies are extremely similar.

now onto the things that could poke holes in this theory, and my answers to them.

first up, funny bone's horns.

while yes, funny bone has rather large horns, and hot dog does not, hot dog is explicitly stated to be a fire dog pup in his biography, and many more times referred to as a puppy. since, at least to my knowledge, hot dog is the only fire dog we see, who's to say two of those spikes on his head don't grow into horns on older individuals?

there's even a set of spikes on his head in almost the same spot as funny bone's horns, even more evidence to my theory.

another major point, their tails.

funny bone's is a fair bit longer, and has a rather large crystal at the tip, while hot dog's is very much not.

as we can see, hot dog's tail is short and fluffy, a bit like a tail one would find on a young husky or pomeranian. who's to say under that fluff, there isn't a little crystal similar to that on funny bone's? and like that of a husky, the tail would likely grow longer and fluffier later in life, accommodating a larger crystal.

next up, psychological similarities. yes i am going this deep. it is 1:44 AM as of typing this and i have 0 remorse.

while Funny bone gets very little in the way of characterization, we can draw quite a bit from what little there is.

first up, they both have a explicitly mentioned tendency to bury things.

"Hot Dog was brought back to Eon's Citadel where he became a Skylander - and then he proceeded to bury Eon's staff."

"and true to his nature, he likes to bury things, especially imps."

" Funny Bone was in the middle of burying his neighbors’ birthday cake on a breezeless day when the invaders arrived."

the three above quotes come from official statements in Skylanders Universe: The Complete Collection and Skylanders Universe: Book of Elements - Fire and Water

their in-game lines also show several parallels.

in conclusion, funny bone and hot dog share enough parallels, both in biology and behavior, that i have come to believe that before Funny bone became undead, he was a fire dog like hot dog, probably either adult or late adolescent at the time of death.

either that or i am reading way too far into this, which is also a distinct possibility, though in my personal opinion, there are far too many similarities for this to be mere coincidence, especially considering funny bone debuted in Trap team, which was released two years after hot dog's first debut in skylanders giants. ample time to plan these sorts of details into funny bone's design and mannerisms.

the more I think about Skylanders, the more I realize how much they changed Eruptor. originally he was characterized as having a short temper and being very hot-headed. but around the time of Giants I think there was a switch to make him more of a goofy character (Imaginators, the spin-off series Academy, etc.), and it kind of makes me wish we got to see more of a moody character in the series.

it also makes me think about how many other characters were tweaked over the course of the games

Hirogaru Sky! Precure Fancure

Precure of snow Cure Icy! His motif is ice and water and his design is based off of swans!

Cure Icy's civilian (first) name is "Kaito" and his last name is unknown (for now). Kaito is a resident of Skyland who is one of the few students in his school who were accepted in the exchange student program to go on earth for scientific research. During his time on earth Kaito is constantly transforms from a beautiful swan to a human using a pendant he made himself that is fueled with Sky Jewels. (Kaito uses the energy from the pendant because when he uses his own energy to do it, it leaves him very tired), though this malfunctions at times and the pendant transforms him into a small, clumsy, baby swan instead. Kaito enjoys biology, environmental science and mechanics. Although he is somewhat naïve and hot headed he has an appreciation for the arts and mechanics and always tries to help his friends, so he appreciates every second spent on earth. He is currently living with a girl he met on earth who thinks he's a lost duck.

Etymology- Kai(海) meaning sea or ocean, To(斗) meaning soar or fly

"So, where's spyro and the others?" Food fight asked. "they are on guard duty. they said that chop chop was spotted nearby mate." Snap shot answered. meanwhile, above in the skies, Sonic boom soars around."Oh, where are those children!?" she asked herself. she then sees a tree house lit up below her and flies down and sees them eating pizza.she was about to walk in when she heard food fight's voice. without a second thought, she broke in and gained looks she did. everyone stopped talking and looked at her startled. "What are you doing?" Tessa asked, confused."The minis ran off and didn't tell me." Sonic boom explains. Spry sheepishly chuckles, sinking into the chair. Sonic boom lands her eyes on him. "Anyways...what's the deal with the two werewolves?"That's food fight and snap shot. " Tessa says. "Oh...that's interesting....food fight is that moss or fur?" "spyro, are you sure you have chop chop's scent? we been out here for hours now." cynder asked. her voice tinged with boredom. "Have a talk and hope he changes his mind." spyro responds. gill grunt looks at trigger happy and shakes his head and cynder's nostrils flare as she sighs deeply. "Yeah, spyro. some people are not talkers, and you can't talk them out of doing what they are going to do. chop chop is not someone who really thinks about others. he's a fighter, not a lover." Pop Fizz - Pop Fizz is an alchemist and while Seiko technically isn't one, she might as well be. Their concoctions can often times be ridiculous, giving people strange powers or having interesting effects on their body, most notably drinking their main concoction allows both of them to turn into powerful monsters with insane strength and capabilities.

Lizard - Both in their natural state are timid scientists who create strange concoctions; with the intention of helping people around them. In one way or another, both are impaired (Seiko was born with an illness that required her to take regular doses of medicine to stay alive and prevented her from eating food with high sugar levels, and Connors is an amputee who lost his arm while working as a combat medic) and both work as important scientists for a well-known, well-established organization (Future Foundation for Seiko and either S.H.I.E.L.D or Oscorp for Connors depending on the iteration) Due to the power of their unique medicine, both of them can turn into powerful, destructive monsters that can tear apart anything in their path.

Takemi - Takemi in ScruffyTurtles Adult Confidant AU, AKA Doc, shares the same backstory as her main-game counterpart, which is similar to Seiko's. Both were born with a weak physical complexion that required them to receive constant medical care as a child, and as a result became prodigy’s in medicinal practices (Seiko became the Ultimate Pharmacist and Takemi became a well-respected junior Doctor by the time she was in college). Both of them also had a close relationship with someone who seemed to look after them, only for their relationship to become strained as a result of that persons actions in manipulating them (Seiko was Ruruka Ando's best friend, but was constantly used by her and constantly gaslit and guilt-tripped into doing what she wanted, and Takemi was a student of Hinaharu Sakimaru, who acting like a motherly figure to her while secretly dragging her into her organ trafficking schemes). After reaching their breaking point, both unlocked their unique powers through external means and fought against that person (Seiko became a monster with her medicine and tried to hunt Ruruka in the Final Killing Game, and Takemi awakened to her Persona, Metradora, after confronting Hinahara’s Shadow.)

Moira - Both characters are scientists who dabble in what many can consider to be inhumane and illegal experiments, and typically use human test-subjects for said practices (Seiko creates strange medicines with weird effects, like increasing someone's strength to it's max or making people hot and horny, and in Danganronpa 3, she usually gives these concoctions to Teruteru to use in his cooking, which leads Class 77 to unknowingly and unwillingly become her Guinea Pigs; and Moira frequently uses animals and humans for her bio-engineering experiments with varying results, including Gabriel Reyes, who due to her experiments would eventually become Reaper) Due to some unfortunate events, they were kicked out of their residence of work (Seiko is expelled from Hope's Peak and Moira was blacklisted by Overwatch) but eventually went on to join an equally powerful organization who put their skills to good use; albeit on different sides (Seiko joins the heroic Future Foundation and becomes the Head of Branch 4, while Moira joins the villainous Talon and becomes their lead scientist)

Coyle - Both are scientists who experiment with medicine and/or tech designed to make them stronger, typically by using the people around them as test subjects against their will and knowledge (As mentioned, Seiko used other students at Hope's Peak, specifically Class 77, as a means of testing her medicine, and Dr Coyle observed and collected data from the other ARMS fighters) and in the end, both ended up subjecting themselves to their own experiments in order to achieve their own ends and assure their survival (Seiko took her own Doping Corn Soup to become a monster during the Final Killing Game, and Coyle allowed Hedlok, a menacing masked robot that attaches itself to other fighters, to take over her own body for a boost of power and strength). Both also had a very tight relationship at one point with another character in their series, but had a falling out down the line and became worst enemies as a result (Ruruka Ando and Max Brass respectively).

honestly, i have no idea what this was supposed to be in response to, but it was buried in my drafts & im gonna bring it back because i feel like it should see the light of day for a moment + i wanna add onto it.

to be honest, i think this speel only scratches the surface of my fascination with the arkeyans. i don’t think i can quite put it into words but i’m gonna try.

i think it comes down to how much about them we see, but how little about them they actually know.

this was supposed to be short but it actually isn’t (surprise) so the ramble is below the cut.

i’m tired so i’m going on what’s off the top of my head, but we see certain things that imply things about their culture, but we still don’t know anything about their culture.

the weapon master calls the quicksilver vault a trial of sorts in spyro’s adventure, i think. there was a room heavily implied to be a bakery in giants. they had a whole graveyard in swap force, complete with at least one “guardian” watching over it (which notably is not a robot, nor even resembles any other arkeyan being seen or mentioned, but is a monkey of all things).

why would they need trials to prove honor/worthiness for obtaining the quicksilver? why’d they have a bakery? why would they need a graveyard, of all things, and also a guardian to watch over it?

were they once human/mortal, then turned into robots at one point, or were they always robots who were more human at heart than full robot? wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened in skylanders. (and honestly, the whole Robo-Kaos transformation could be used to swing either way)

but that might explain the simple “why,” but not the deeper “why?” or the infinitely more interesting: “what else?”

were trials and tests regular in their society, or just for protection, or just for testing arkeyan warriors? were they only a race of war machines, or were there civilians? innocents who fell to whatever sealed their race’s fate?

if they had a bakery, what else did they have? did they have their own unique cuisine? was their bakery any good? aside from food, what other “little things” did they have that were a big part of their society? were there artists? craftsmen? musicians? did they play games, sports? and what happened to all of that when whatever happened to them happened? do the remnants still stand? have we seen it and we’ll never know, save for the few location names we’ve gotten, or are they tucked away in the corners of the world we’ve never seen?

and the graveyard. the fucking graveyard. sure, maybe the level was just made as en excuse to bring the Arkeyans back as enemies for a hot minute since it’s never directly called an arkeyan graveyard, but the idea of a graveyard for robots is just so intriguing, again, given how little we know of arkeyan culture. if a robot was broken beyond fixing, couldn’t they just shove it off somewhere? throw it in a vault like where krypt king came from? why did they need a place to bury their “dead?” and since they did, did they have anything special for those with higher honor, or were they all “returned” to the dirt the same? did burials mean anything, and did the “lives” of their fellow machines mean anything special? were the graveyards and graves respected, or just a dumping ground? were the graves theirs at all, or were they put there by someone else?

(other edit: there’s a superchargers track that is basically rampant ruins but it’s called the “temple of arkus” and i’m gonna let you predict my train of thought before i spend another 15 minutes talking about a possible belief system that we’ll never know about. because then i’ll go on a tangent about how we know nothing about higher beings or religions or beliefs in skylands like at all. and that’s for another rainy day.)

and the goddamn monkey. the graveyard guardian. again, was this arkeyan, or from someone else? they “stomp robots rising from the grave,” but that still doesn’t answer anything. if we knew more, it would, but we still don’t know if the graves were intentional or incidental; if the arkeyans were buried with intent, or they ended up there when the race went kaput. if it was theirs, that brings in so many more questions. did they have a certain belief regarding the dead? or spirits or guardians? the monkey not looking arkeyan at all could be interesting from either take, honestly.

(hindsight edit: thinking about it again, the monkey statue kinda reminds me of the statues you had to put back together at the vault of the ancients, but i haven’t played it in a long time so i’m probably wrong but whatever, but that monkey being from the watch wraiths could also be an interesting swing: were they allies or enemies, if it is?)

point is, the arkeyans had so much hinted, but hardly anything told, and every little thing we got didn’t give us answers, but more questions as to who they actually were. i just think their whole lore was so cool, and i’m kinda disappointed they just dropped them entirely after swap force, but i honestly don’t trust the writing of the later games to do them total justice like giants did.

Ok I had some thoughts for both Kaiju No.8 Skylanders and Gamera crossover so I'll split them up in two.

For Gamera:

Ok in both the Heisei Gamera series and The Rebirth series it turns out that kaiju were actually genetic experiments made by an ancient advanced human civilization, and I think it'd be cool if we brought some ideas from them. For example during the ancient civilization there were two types of kaiju there servant class which were humanoid in appearance strong(not to an insane degree) and had human level intelligence and the war class titans which are massive animalistic and have insane powers. So the idea is that some of the numbered kaiju used to be Servant class that now try to recreate their masters works for their own ends but that all gets upended when Gamera shows up, causing the remaining numbered kaiju to figure out what to do about him.

Gamera also has a rather popular following in Japan after there's footage of the giant turtle fighting off a Honju and its Yoju while the Defense Force was busy with another Honju and Yoju. There are even plushes of Gamera being sold out at vendors and Gamera themed dishes.

For Skylanders Giants:

There have been debates from both civilians and even government higher ups about if the Defense Force could defeat the Skylanders and for the most part its been thought of as even, until Tree Rex offhandly mentions he's been fighting for so long he forgot how long its been and that he lost count after three centuries. Then the Kaiju No.8 world goes crazy after this information.

There are fan clubs in the rookie squad on who the best Giant and they have surprising members, for example Aoi actually likes Hothead mainly due to the fact the fire giant always intends to finish the fight, Hairuchi likes Swarm, Kikoru likes Tree Rex etc.

There's actually a chance that other numbered Kaiju could end up as Skylanders/Portal masters if they're pushed to a point and summon an evil Skylander such as Gold Queen or the Chompie Wizard.

Soshiro has a crush on Ninjini and it started when she managed to match him in bladed combat, and has secretly bought some merch of the Ninja genie. Mina found out and she had to excuse herself before bursting a gut.

I have read the manga so I'm going to dodge some major ass spoilers for any anime only readers.

For Gamera, it's definitely some of the old Kaiju in the past but their numbers got dwindled over the years by the Defense Force. They didn't leave quietly as these ones caused quite the devastation before being slain. It's one reason why Toto is being monitored by the DF.

They don't want a repeat of another great disaster like in the past. Luckily Toto's behavior suggests he knows better to cause problems for humans and seems quite friendly with children. There's speculation that he might've been taught this.

Now for Skylanders,

All of them are practically ancient. Hell, Hot Head is said to be 199,999 and 3/4ths years old but has the energy of 150,000 year old. Ninjinni also has been confirmed the oldest amongst the group. The amount of stories they have could fill an empty library.

I won't be surprised if there's fan clubs in the Defense Force. The moment the Skylanders officially begin working with the DF practically has every fan boy/girl cheering. Expect plenty of antics.

There is one future Numbered Kaiju that definitely could become a Skylander. Portal Masters outside of Skylands are an incredible rarity. This is mainly due to portal magic being very rare even moreso in near magicless realms. Kafka having that potential is one in 5 billion.

Hoshina is definitely the type to love someone who can kick his ass. Ninjinni easily matched him move for move and Kafka felt like he was a watching a dance of blades than fighting. Mina would absolutely bully Hoshina about his newfound crush but wish him luck in the dating department.

Not everyone can say they fell in love with a elven genie warrior.

Skylanders Review: Slam Bam

Oh, a Skylander I actually have good things to say about! Slam Bam is our second Water type Skylander, but in this case he's one that represents the Ice portion of the element.

[Image: Slam Bam is a muscular, humanoid yeti with icy blue skin and white fur. He has a wavy short beard and medium length hair on the top of his head. Slam Bam's face is a bit compressed, with large yellow eyes and a larger mouth full of sharp teeth. It's ears and nose are oddly small, however. Its digits are tipped with dark blue claws, and fur covers his legs from the waist down to the ankles. His most noteworthy feature are his four arms, all four of his wrists being covered in hair.]

Slam Bam tackles a specific species of monster, Yetis, and decides to give them two sets of arms to help him stand out. From his lore we know he spent most of his time isolated on a small patch of ice before Kaos destroyed it, leaving Slam Bam stranded on an iceberg before washing up on Eon's turf.

The reference book goes a little deeper into his bio, stating that his isolation was on purpose and that Kaos blew up his glacier to find out what the secret ingredient to Slam Bam's snow cones was. He also dislikes hot, spicy foods and is a frosty guy who takes time to warm up to others.

Slam Bam's alternates include this "Legendary" figure, with golden armor (and golden claws on his feet for some reason?) and a darker blue color to his whole body. In fact, he looks a little like Beast from the X-Men.

For his racecar design, he wears spiked armor like his legendary form but its made of ice - he also wears skiing goggles now.

Finally, we have a Surfer counterpart that's only available in a spin-off app game that gave several Skylanders gimmicky alternate skins. Here he's a Summer Yeti, with raw pink skin and pale blonde fur. He wears beach shorts, and has a lei slung over his body. He's now a surfer, his surfboard having the symbol for his element carved into it.

Motto: "Armed and Dangerous!" Pretty sure Doc Ock already used this. Classic pun though. 2/5

4/5, a cool yeti guy. I have one of his figures and to express his ice powers his figurine was made with semi-translucent blue plastic which looks cool.
