3-7 for the art asks please 😁
Hey there, thank you so much for dropping by! I hope you have a beautiful day today! 🫶🏻😚
Is 3-7 seven mean 3 and 7 or 3 to 7? 😱 I'm going with the latter, just to be safe.
3. What ideas come from when you were little
Fhuh not exactly ideas, but there has been a lot of mention on Misha's part before -and absolutely rightly so- that my stuff looks remisiscent of the style older fantasy books used for illustrations. So in the sense of style i think a lot has roots in there, because fantasy was what i read the most. Also looked at pictures in a lot of tabletop rpg rulebooks because i loved the creatures. I drew a lot of creatures when i was little.. so yeah i don't think many ideas are coming from back than but the the things i loved definitely shine through in a way.
4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw
Water. Specifically high waves. I know i just included them in a "how i do stuff" post but i still have not fully figured out a way to execute how i want them to look. But i'll keep you posted when it finally happens. Also hands. I don't do weird or fun stuff with them (yet) but i love drawing them. But they are hard. Also hair. It's tedious at best but i love it so much. I should do it more. Oh yeah and ivy. I mean the plant. I love it but man.. my love for details makes me to do individual leaves. Every. Single. Time. Uhhh.
5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself
95 : 5 ratio sounds about right. Currently i share almost everything i do because it's either a small offerings, tiny token or something sleep token related but i have a thing or two that i've yet to share which are unrelated to ST. They'll come sooner or later.
6. Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (i.e. this horse wasn't supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it)
There has to be a lot of things probably but that's the magic of the subconscious. You are not conscious about it. (And i'm not sure the question is phrased in the best manner because i think getting inspired by something is vastly different from having stylistic influences.)
So stylistically -besides the aformentioned old school fantasy style- to be honest, i'm not entirely sure. Probably the last thing i've seen in any given time somehow get's reflected, even if not always overtly.
As for inspiration, i usually find much more inspiration behind ideas and concepts rather than other art currently. Or small details that spark an idea which will spiral into some other idea, etc.
7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate
Basically everything. I love art in all it's forms. There is really no medium i can't appreaciate in some ways.
But as for a specific medium i'll never touch is charcoal. I love it. Probably one of the best looking things come from it. I just.. i can't do it. Nope. Never. Also collages. I never really had the eye for it. But. I love them. I even have one on my wall back at home. But i can't do them justice.

Y'know I know ask games are for people to, y'know, send in asks. But I don't see people often just. Fill it all out themselves. Fuck it I'll help out the shy people.
SO ASK GAME BELOW 'READMORE' LET'S GO
1. Art programs you have but don't use: MS Paint, Blender, I used to have WAY more like this one painting [like actual paint] program.
2. Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even): Left is easiest, Right is in the middle, and forward is the hardest of those three for me.
3. What ideas come from when you were little: I was fascinated by G/T from like. 3 years old. I blame Super Mario Land 2 LMAO
4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw: Handheld, perspective, monsters/creatures, and massive scale
5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself: Uhhh probably about 50/50? A lot of things I draw are spoilers, shitposts, and other study art I don't bother sharing.
6. Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (i.e. this horse wasn't supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it): Not that I can think of? My art doesn't get analyzed super often. I think people think I study anime more than I do.
7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate: Charcoal, watercolors, sculpture, oil pastels, acrylic, copic markers
8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in: Originally I was going to make an AMV with my two characters, Nonny and Felicia, to the song 'shut up and dance with me'. These two aren't active OCs anymore, and the project was WAY too ambitious for my skill level 9 years ago lmao.
9. What are your file name conventions: 1: Name of song I listened to on loop while drawing. 2: An inside joke. 3: Literal rep of what's on the canvas like 'Hema doodles Aug 2023'.
10. Favorite piece of clothing to draw: Body suits, capes, scarves
11. Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what: TONS. My fave lyrical music, videogame soundtracks, sometimes just ambiance if I'm overwhelmed. Usually tho it's the same song on loop till I get the inspired piece out of my system.
12. Easiest part of body to draw: Eyes!
13. A creator who you admire but whose work isn't your thing: A lot of NSFW artists who I won't list here LMAO. I don't go to that school, but their art skills are top-notch.
14. Any favorite motifs: Mirrors, doppelgangers, leaving 1 eye absent for emotional effect, feathers/wings, falling, sinking into water, eyes, dark palettes with bright accents/light sources, glowing eyes, flowing hair, size difference/scale, fucked up version of self vs real version
15. *Where* do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth): Starbucks, home, parks if I'm feelin spicy, anywhere I take my tablet for the day.
16. Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing: A lot of my niche/kink stuff tends to get pretty dredge-y for me. I may be good at it, but it's not where my passion lies. That's in animation, fantasy, dramatic stuff, storytelling, etc.
17. Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what: Water or Snapple for the drink, milk if it's bedtime so I can settle down, and then usually the snacks are just whatever my lunch is for the day since we don't have a table.
18. An estimate of how much art supplies you've broken: Not many! Less than $100 I'd say. I'm very careful with my supplies, and I don't believe I've ever broken a tablet. The worst I've done was I busted 1 or 2 cheap tablet pens with stupidity.
19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.): Definitely nature. Tree trunks and swirls therein, flowers, grass.
20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy: Humans! Not that it's an 'everyone' thing, I just run in some furry circles where human artists are a rarity. Eyes, too. Some people find expressions rly hard.
21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways: Uhhh man damn, I don't follow a lot of art styles that aren't something I took inspo from? But I guess Wolf Walkers is my biggest one.
22. What physical exercises do you do before drawing, if any: Sooometimes I stretch, but I don't do it nearly often enough.
23. Do you use different layer modes: Yep! My most common ones are Multiply, Glow Dodge, Add, Add Glow, Overlay, Pin Light, and Color.
24. Do your references include stock images: Absolutely! Reference is important.
25. Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by: Not much! Most of my inspirations are pretty clear-cut and strong. Avatar, SU, Disney, Dreamworks, FMA, some Warner Brothers' movies, etc.
26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended: God, so, the G/T gif of mine that makes the rounds a lot? The one where VT finds someone small and it's their POV and he helps them and puts them in his shirt pocket??? Most people were completely normal about that post. But then there's one chuckle-head who was calling it pocket-vore, and I wanted to scream. I even chastised them like 'hey uh, no. That's not what this is.' and they argued back with 'well it's up to the eye of the beholder more than your opinion.' and I was like 'UH NO. I MADE THIS. MY OPINION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR WEIRD ONE???' I've also RAAARELY had people call my characters underaged when they're all well over 21, so those are always gross/wild LMAO.
27. Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with: Sometimes! I usually do an anatomy study, brush stroke warm-ups, or just doodle something personal first.
28. Any art events you have participated in the past (like zines): I think Multi Animator Projects [MAPS] would count here! I was part of Starclan's Chosen, Change Your Mind [Brambleclaw], Levitating, Family of Me [fallenleaves], Goosebumps Warriors MAP, Pay No Mind MEP, LA Devotee [never finished], White Rabbit, and Fear Garden! Among others :>
29. Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically: Not much! Pretty much everything I love inspires me artistically. I guess some anime styles?
30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated: Pretty much any of my animations. But I only feel that way cuz they take THE MOST dedication and work time. Also kiiiinda my writing? But a lot of people have trouble getting people to respond to literature, so.

I was thinking about the "horse vs unicorn fantasy" explanation when explain conventional romantic fantasies vs dark/gothic romantic fantasies. Kinda going like: one is something you can realistically want and even achieve and the other being something completely unattainable although sometimes nice to think about.
And I think I can find a way to these different fantasies by connecting it to nonromantic situations?
Situation: Dealing with anger/being wronged
At some point in your life you are probably going to want to hurt someone. It can be an intrusive flash of anger or it'll be a dark what if your mind muses on. But chances are, you are going to feel that want and impulse to strike someone and may even take a moment to really envision something. This is a unicorn fantasy persay. It's not attainable, you would not do this. You would not condone this if you or someone else did this. But it's really really cathartic in the moment.
You are not a bad or weird or violent person for this fantasy. You are not actually committing violence and thought crimes arent real. In fact, not all that deep down you know acting on that fantasy would put you in the wrong and also make everything worse. So you will then switch over to your horse fantasy of either chewing someone out or any other number of better conflict resolution skills. or cutting that person out entirely. Maybe the truly fantastical part is watching the other person get what they deserve from a distance.
And you know what? You and I both know the horse fantasy is a lot more attainable and even more satisfying than the violent fantasy anyways. That violent fantasy was only had just to process and get that anger out before being able to take a breath and focus on the more practical fantasy you can work towards.

Cecilia here, Happy St. Patrick's Day! I had a good one, got to do the Stations of the Cross, had an easy day at work and had a lovely fish dinner (wasn't sure what my church's stance was on fasting today so better safe than sorry.) Also just finished my 20th day toward my 33 days to Consecration to Mary, and tomorrow going to a 40 days for life rally to pray for a closing of a local abortion clinic. Otherwise have a random question. I love fantasy stuff, like dragons, fairies, the whole shebang. Are there any problems as a Catholic with liking fantasy stuff, or even thinking it could perhaps be real? I mean, unicorns are in the Bible and so are dragons. Like, not worship obviously, but like think they could perhaps exist. God Bless!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!! ☘️
It sounds like you had an amazing day! You inspire me to keep strong. I had an easy day at work too. My mom brought home shakes, apple pies, and cupcakes! Even though our diocese gave us permission to eat meat today we both felt funny about it so no meat for us either. I read The Confession of Saint Patrick out loud to my mom after turning on the decorative lights, followed by watching Father Stu!
I have absolutely loved fantasy things ever since I was a young child, especially dragons. I was obsessed with dragons for a long, long time..when I was younger. The oldest tales of cultures used to be passed down generation to generation in word, and it is not surprising to find that they used imagery to try and grasp the form of fear of the unknown. Dragons, in fact, used to be drawn on the edge of world maps of old, because not a lot was known like we have now. Dragons are a common story found across all continents around the world, some see them as monsters and demons, others as ancestors with much wisdom made up of different animals, even made up gods. Satan takes on the form of a dragon, waiting to devour the child of the woman in the Bible. Since Satan was once the most powerful, intelligent angel, it would be easy for him to perhaps transform into such an image. We already know too well who the serpent was. Yes unicorns are mentioned as well!
It’s important to realize the difference between reality vs fiction as a Catholic. There is nothing wrong with admiring fictional creatures that artists and authors give us, but it becomes a problem if we worship them or think that specific fictional creation by some author itself is real, for example, Spyro, and tell others the lie that Spyro is a real animal. There are ways it can lead to sin, so make sure to ask your confessor next time you go so you can be informed better than I can explain. I think it’s important to also note that the veil we can’t see behind is real and there are real classified animals created by God that are very much dragon-like that you can actually learn about and see in real life. (I don’t know my horses as well as lizards so you must forgive me.) For example here are just a few… There are over 41 species of Draco alone.
Draco taeniopterus (Thai flying dragon)
We also have this guy….they have been known to attack, kill, and eat humans! Yikes!
Varanus komodoensis (Komodo dragon)!!
There are at least six or more species of Pogona (bearded dragon)…
Phycodurus eques (leafy sea dragon)
Tribolonotus gracilis (Red-eyed Crocodile Skink)
Dracaena guianensis (Northern Caiman Lizard)
Ouroborus cataphractus (Armadillo Girdled Lizard)
Hydrosaurus pustulatus (Phillipine Sailfin Lizard)
Alligator sinensis (Chinese alligator)

Lisa Frank/spray painted van side/Hasbro tie-in franchise unicorns should have horse tails
medieval/serious business heavy themes (not necessarily grimdark) fantasy/worldbuilding-heavy setting unicorns should have lionlike tails, if a bit more extreme
Extremely Wordlbuilding Heavy Settings (my beloved) should feature a variety of unicorn tails, and a detailed explanation of differences between the species (i'm thinking rabbit vs hare analogy)
personally also a big fan of the Afghan Greyhound Mullet Tail
Let’s settle the score once and for all.
It had to be said of course that unicorns (i.e. the Indian rhinoceros) were originally described as having the tail of a boar, but that detail was quickly forgotten.

3-9 for the artist asks
A thousand years later but here we are at last X'D sorry for the wait!
3. What ideas come from when you were little?
Well, my OCs Nicolae and Veris have been around since I was 13, although they've changed a LOT since their initial creation. Aside from that, my love if "isekei" fantasy definitely stems from childhood: Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, Out of the Box (yes it counts!) and Coraline when I was in high school. I think Harry Potter counts as well. There's probably more I read/watched, but these are the ones that jump out at me. I LOVE this type of fantasy, that something greater exists alongside us and we just need to find it and a lot of my more whimsical work takes inspiration from that.
4. Fave character/subject that's a bitch to draw.
All of my live-action loves - so like the X-men movies and my dear Elvis Presley, although I'm getting the hang of him in my style. I've all but lost my eye for realism, sadly. one of these days I wanna reteach myself if I can. Is it my fault that monsters and magical girls are more fun to draw??
5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself
These days I typically post all my finished stuff online somewhere. I suppose if I were to draw something super spoilery for one of my stories, I'd keep it to myself. Usually it's just the brainstorming stages, whether for designs or like animatic thumbnails that I don't share. Nobody wants to see that X'D too messy.
6. Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (i.e. this horse wasn't supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it)
Ohhhh....I know I've come across this in my work before but honestly, it's usually all for writing. The amount of 50s-60s science fiction that's influenced my storytelling is ridiculous and I did not notice until recently because I don't usually write scifi XD
7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate.
Oil paint. Too messy, too expensive (too toxic imo) but my GOSH is it beautiful. I WISH I had the skills to master it, despite what I just said. Alex Ross, Basil Gogos...if only.
8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in?
Uhhhhh....well I had this one little comic going back in 2020 that was Nightmare Before Christmas But With Cryptoria Webb that I never finished. I'd like to go back to it someday - it was silly and fun and was supposed to involve Tori challenging Jack for the Crown...but comics are time consuming AF and I still haven't finished my Shinigami Sanji story (which is something I'd really like to do, someday.)
9. What are your file name conventions?
Oh, nothing fancy. Just something simple that'll job my memory so whenever I do digital art (which is rarely,) I'll remember what I'm working on XD

Kelpie Design Sheet 2
Another detailed break down of the mythical beast, The Kelpie. Mostly this is about exploring key equine elements and combining them with predatory animals like sharks, fish, and crocodiles. Anatomy is also very important in order to make this creature look natural… even if it is an evil entity.
Will hopefully have a design nailed down soon.

“Fantasy Names” for Non-English Languages; One Language Per Continent?
@corrupted---minds submitted:
In my story there are different continents inspired by sections of our world; fantasy Europe, fantasy East Asia, fantasy Middle East, ect. And each continent, for convenience, speaks one language. Cantonese is fantasy East Asias language, for example.
Now on to naming conventions. While in fantasy Europe people have average european names, about 30% have fantasy names like Illumina or Crystal or Raten Firewalker. I want to try to keep the same naming ratio for the other continents, but I’m not sure if it would be offensive for me, as a white woman, to cut apart a language to make a cool sounding name for my characters that are POC.
If you have any insight, suggestions, or just flat out think it’s a bad idea, please let me know. I dont want to unintentionally offend anyone.
On the Issue of Worldbuilding
The salient point is to avoid using languages from real life outright. Already, I sense that your language and coding categories are too broad. It’s never a good idea to reduce such large regions containing so many ethnicities to a single language group/ setting. Think more granular and use single ethnicities instead. Rina has already written on naming conlangs, including pertinent resource links, that I think would be very helpful information for you. Please read her comments here.
Furthermore, as a reader, I think it is more realistic and dynamic when the characters have names that mean something in their own languages. Most people already have such names IRL. I think in many Western cultures, some are simply too removed from the original root languages to know the word origins of their names. My pen-name here on WWC happens to mean “Jasmine” both in Sanskrit and Japanese, but Marika is a lot more culturally relevant than “Jasmine” as it expresses my bicultural identity much more effectively. Thus, I am curious as to why you wish to stick to this arbitrary 30% rule. Not only does it strike me as rather boring, but it also generates a lot of dissonance for me as a reader in conventional fantasy when a person “randomly” has a conventional fantasy name with no context given.
If people are given atypical naming schemes, I’d much rather there be a sensible reason for this choice. It both provides context and lays the groundwork for world-building information that the reader can draw on unconsciously at a later time. For example, as I continue my role as this blog’s Tamora Pierce evangelist, the author has two such examples of atypical naming in her universes. In the Tortall series, the Shang warriors are given titles that reflect their prowess, with more legendary animals indicating higher levels of mastery. Thus, the reader automatically knows that Liam Ironarm, the Dragon, and Kylaia al Jmaa, the Unicorn, supersede Ida Bell, the Wildcat, and Hakuin Seastone, the Horse, in terms of skill. In the Emelan Universe, dedicates of the Living Earth religion choose names associated with plants, animals and natural phenomena ( e.g. Rosethorn, Frostpine, Moonstream) and lack last names. Academic mages, on the other hand, have last names that demonstrate what kind of magic they are proficient in (Goldeye, Ladyhammer, Glassfire), allowing us to immediately discern who is a dedicate in the Living Earth faith, who is an academic mage, and who is neither (whether they be from a different background or are still in training).
Lastly, as a caution, we would like to warn many of our readers that words commonly associated with imagery used in Norse mythology are now often dog-whistles or outright references to white supremacy groups/ movements (Thanks Neo-Nazis!). Thus, particularly for white/ Western-coded characters, please check any name meanings against the following databases created by Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League (viewable here and here).
- Marika.
On Colonial Implications
I would like to emphasize how flattening it is to summarize any large region down to a single language: British Columbia and some of Washington State have 7 mutually unintelligible language families within a few hundred square miles. That’s an incredibly saturated amount of linguistic diversity in a very, very small region. And it’s not the only linguistic hotspot in the world.
Europeans often have an artificial sense of how many languages are natural in a region, because Europe is one of the least linguistically diverse regions in the world at about nine language families, with 94% belonging to a single language family. Meanwhile, China alone has at least nine families, and India has at least six. In North America, you have dozens if not hundreds of language families across the continent.
Note that these are language families, not languages. Each language family can have anywhere from 2 to 50+ languages within it. The aforementioned language family with 94% of Europe is Indo-European, which covers everything from French (the Romance branch) to Punjabi (the Indo-Iranian branch) to Russian (the Balto-Slavic branch).
Convenience should not come at the expense of linguistic diversity. Language destruction is one of the targets of colonialism, and doing such a flattening would leave an extremely sour taste in my mouth at the implied history of this world. Many, many Indigenous languages are extinct because colonial languages were forced upon the populations of the Americas (English, Spanish, Portugese, French), and this isn’t counting non-European colonialism.
Widespread single languages across huge landmasses often come with an extremely bloody history (unless it was purposely crafted for ease of communication among groups, such as Plains Sign Language), and for your marginalized readers it will be unignorable. You don’t have to create a continent’s worth of languages, but you do have to acknowledge the diversity is there.
As Marika said, focus on individual ethnicities instead of such broad land masses. Doing your current track would pull anyone with even an ounce of linguistics education, or anyone who has had their access to language suffer because of colonialism, right out of the story.
~ Mod Lesya
I agree with Mod Lesya, especially when it comes to their point of language destruction being one of the targets of colonialism. East Asia already has a history of this, with languages being banned and punishments for speaking them, and even now in mainland China Mandarin is being pushed as the only dialect to speak vs. Cantonese, Hokkien, Sichuanese, etc. A suggestion I have is to perhaps have one common language for diplomacy/trade purposes that is used alongside other languages and dialects in certain regions.

A whole lot of the fanfic authors writing 40/10 pairings (...which are really rare; what fandom are you looking at? Most fanfic bottoms out at age 12-13 - the age when a lot of people start actually being interested in sex.) are not fantasizing about being the 40 year old.
They're fantasizing about being a young, clueless, preteen - something they used to be - and someone older and experienced falling in love with them, finding them fascinating and desirable, and dedicating their life to companionship and protection of the young person as they grow into adulthood.
They may also be fantasizing about the other side of that relationship: Finding someone who needs protection and guidance and providing them with support and joy before they've had to endure the weird awkwardness of teen dating and bad sex.
It's like the "magical healing cock" fantasy - gee, I wonder why so many marginalized and oppressed people, especially in categories subject to a lot of sexual discrimination and assault, like fantasies about sex that cures trauma and makes everyone happy.)
(Insert disclaimer about horse fantasies vs unicorn fantasies. This is in the "fun to think about" category, not the "what people actually look for in a partner" category. Fantasy relationships don't come with real-life psychological trauma and legal repercussions.)
Are some people who write or read "this plot would be a very disturbing crime in real life" actually disturbed? Yes.
But you can't tell who they are based on their taste in fiction.
A lot of very disturbed, fucked-in-the-head people also like daily showers. Does this show an unhealthy obsession with purity and cleanliness, a denial of the reality that humans sweat?
No. You cannot identify pathologies by any one trait, no matter how "obvious" it looks from the outside.
So earnest. So well-meaning. So dumb.
No, no that is not concerning. People ship things because they like how some fictional characters interact or something. Or they're working through something. Or maybe they're trolling you. Or maybe they watch some El Chavo del Ocho-ass series with crazy casting.
Regardless, what people like in fiction is not a reliable predictor of whether they're ~dangerous~ or what morals they hold outside of fiction.
Thinking fiction can be used this way, however, is a massive red flag for indoctrination by conservative religious bullshit.
If you hold this dangerously stupid view, what other ones might be lurking?
You will get no sympathy on my blog for "wah, wah, romaaaanticize" discourse.
Not only is fiction fiction, but many depictions romanticize vs. not only due to 1. your readerly preconceptions or 2. the author's hamfisted skill that turned out a piece that wasn't as nuanced as they'd hoped.
And for the record, "stuff that would get you into jail irl" is anything gay in a lot of jurisdictions and nothing at all where I live... well... barring bomb threats or something.

answering art questions for my beloved @belzebub430
1. Art programs you have but don't use
procreate T-T i don’t draw often enough anymore to keep my ipad reliably charged, and it takes so long to charge up when i DO want to draw, it’s a whole thing. also gimp because it looks like the version of photoshop i’m used to except everything is two inches to the left and i don’t have the patience to learn it properly
2. Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even)
you expect me to think about what direction my blorbo is facing? you expect me to think and not just vibe with what looks good at the moment?
3. What ideas come from when you were little
my comic/novel princess huntress and by extension my d&d homebrew world! always loved princesses, always loved fantasies, was a tiny lesbian who thought the beast was way cooler than the prince and belle was dumb for de-beasting him
4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw
plants and buildings :(
5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself
if it’s drawn, i usually post it somewhere; if it’s a collage, i usually keep it to myself. probably 5% of my collages are shared in the group chat or in person
6. Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (i.e. this horse wasn't supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it)
i was a tim burton child and a my chemical romance teen so now i lovingly craft deep, dark undereye bags and shadows on to 90% of the people i draw regardless of how much sleep they get
7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate
oil painting!!! i dabble in acrylics and watercolors, but i LOVE the texture and color blending abilities of oil, and it’s so so so so so so gorgeous and if it wasn’t so expensive i would dabble in it too. also clay. also stained glass. also prop foam. i did set design in high school and got to make an entire brick building facade for the glass menagerie out of foam and heat tools it was SO FUN
8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in
markers :/ like they’re great and i still use them but they’re just for fun now, not something i really invest practice in
9. What are your file name conventions
usually [character name/s] [situation/theme depicted] .png
10. Favorite piece of clothing to draw
veils, jewelry, plate armor
11. Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what
whatever playlist relates to what i’m drawing
12. Easiest part of body to draw
hands cause they can be a little funky or a little simplistic and it still looks fine cause hands are just Like That
13. A creator who you admire but whose work isn't your thing
every glassblower ever
14. Any favorite motifs
heresy and sacrilege >:3c
15. *Where* do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth)
my bedroom mostly, i do love drawing outside but i usually get too distracted by the world
16. Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing
inking... i’m not BAD at it but it can smell my fear
17. Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what
never eat (food on paper!!! bad!!! no!!!), sometimes fix a cup of coffee or tea, set it aside to cool, and then forget about it forever
18. An estimate of how much art supplies you've broken
Y’ALL ARE BREAKING YOUR SUPPLIES??????
19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)
plants, kitchenware
20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy
noses and hands uwu
21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways
hyper-realistic painting!! oil, acrylic, digital, it’s all fucking gorgeous and jaw-dropping
22. What physical exercises do you do before drawing, if any
none. don’t be like me
23. Do you use different layer modes
if i color it yes, if i’m just sketching i usually only change the opacity
24. Do your references include stock images
how do you use references WITHOUT stock images
25. Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by
no clue
26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended
little mini comic of the joker and harley quinn from like 2016 that everyone on tumblr thought was the lead singer of a boy band
27. Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with
i start with rough sketches and get more detailed as i go, but i usually just work on one piece at a time, no separate warm-ups or anything

In ur pirate AU, would you say its similar to the Last Legacy universe? Does it gravitate more to the fantasy side (think Owl House) or more of the realism side (think Naruto), im sure its a mix but what do you think it leans to most? What kinds of fantasy things we think about (unicorns, dragons, ogres, fae, witches.. Etc, that whole shabang) exist or not,
or is it 2 or more dimensions mashed together (ex: star vs forces evil ending, gravity falls)
Take ur time answering this, im just eager to figure out how the magic works, small clues or hints would be very nice if u can lol
Thancc, Xoxo
I would say it's similar to the Pirates of the Caribbean, but just a little more magic. so it leans into realism the most.
I typed a lot because... well it's a lot to go over 😂
basically I'm going to go over magic in humans and fantasy aspects.
1. I'm gonna start with magic and humans bc that's the easiest thing.
People all have magic that runs in them. It manifests as luck, gut feelings, prophetic dreams, deja vu, and other unexplainable things.
This is also why people give off vibes. their vibes are simply the type of magic they have (which doesn't always define who they are as a person). types of magic don't fit in a box, it's a big spectrum among the five elements.
it's less than common for a person to be able to control their magic. those people are referred to as witches (not just females. anyone able to control their magic. it's a broad gender-neutral term)
witches normally aren't able to produce icicles out of thin air or produce large flames, but they can channel their magical energy and intent to create sparks or make things cold. maybe even create flashy sparkles that don't do anything.
some are able to have healing abilities, but that's quite a rare thing (not impossible though 😉)
for most part, witches have to channel their magic through other things with intention for the best results. usually they channel and store it in items, turning them into magic items. or they channel it into a drinks or herbs for consumption later. (so yes, healing potions, stamina potions, strength potions, ect.)
typically, a magical item is something that can be worn. like a necklace, bracelet, pin, brooch, ect. these items have to be recharged every now and then, but the time between recharges varies based on the power of the witch.
this is why you’ll notice some of the most powerful witches wearing a shit ton of jewelry.
they also channel through tarot cards, crystal balls, pendulums, and other divination. It's common to see a witch design and create their own tarot deck or oracle cards because a witch must have a strong connection to their tools in order for them to work effectively.
not that that's a requirement for witches, finding a pre-made deck and forming a strong bond with it is also very common.
enchanting things and channeling is tiring though and takes a mental and semi-physical toll on the witch. which is why self care is very important and celebrated as a witch.
witches are forbidden in any part of the world owned by Britain or Spain. and a little of France. basically, if the place is taken over by colonizers, witches try to steer clear or hide all evidence of magic in those areas.
because of this widespread hate, it's very common for pirates to have a witch (or two). some of the best pirates either have a witch in a high standing, or are a witch themself.
witches are highly respected by most pirates because of their ability to provide protection against supernatural forces that may have otherwise doomed the ship.
When a pirate encounters a witch, it's common for them to offer hospitality and a safe resting place in return for putting a protection charm on a ship or even joining the crew. so it's no surprise that almost every witch also associates with pirates.
2. now for the other fantasy aspects
I think a variety of fantasy creatures exist in Crepuscolo, but in places that no one has ever visited or in plain sight. this means everyone thinks they aren't real, except for people who find them and keep the secret.
we already know about dragons and the way they operate in this world. I think there would probably be other fantasy creatures that do the same thing, mainly unicorns (disguising themselves as horses).
other fantasy aspects include the existence of fairies, moss goblins, and other intelligent humanoid creatures.
the common thing between all of these creatures is that they've all been around much longer than people, and therefore have a stronger connection to their ancient magics.
there are also stories passed around of how they came to be as they are.
Fairies were blessed with flight by Air,
Moss Goblins were blessed with intunment with Earth,
Phoenix were blessed with rebirth by Fire,
and Mermaids were blessed with voices by Water.
(all of these have their own stories that I'll share when I draw concepts of each species)
What about that fifth element? Spirit blessed the heroes of the world, not just one species.╰(*´︶`*)╯
basically, yes many fantasy creatures exist (usually in an unpredictable way, you'll soon find out), most just avoid most humans. So humans think they are just legends.
I can't think of anything else, but if I do I'll add it on or you can ask!
#this took quite a bit of thought but I really wanted to get it finished up today#so I hope this was good!#fictif nicky#fictif two against the world#fictif nicky valentino#fictif tatw#nicky valentino crepuscolo#eggy answers

someone: *mansplains recessive genes to you when you literally JUST said "fantasy rules, that's all folks"*
me: *facepalm & heavy sigh*
sometimes eye colors are just fun and fantasy is fantasy; i love analysis as much as the next nerd but come on people.
anyway ilysm dragons i hope you're having a good day 💛
idk if i’d say mansplain cause i don’t like to assume gender or intent - i typically assume positive intentions or try to unless i’m really given a reason otherwise - but i do think it’s a really interesting example of the differences i find like, visual vs textual media
in visual media, fantasy is way easier, because you can let the visuals indicate so much more. characters are in a forest and it looks like a north american forest, or a jungle? your brain immediately starts filling in the few blanks it has to. but in a book, words might mean completely different things, and you have to indicate what that means also through words that don’t disrupt your story’s tangible in universe / suspension of disbelief.
for example, in my original world that i’m crafting, unicorns are war horses (and also have a different name) but i still have to make it plain they’re unicorns through my written description. i can’t rely on short hand the way visual media can.
and yeah like, for fantasy, for example, the seasons may not make sense, but we’re still working on the assumption that a world on whatever tf the planet’s axis is on would look like ours, or even be bound to the same sort of physics as ours, and those things just... aren’t a guarantee. truly fantasy’s biggest strength & weakness

Star Vs the Forces of Evil Reviews: The Blood Moon Ball (1-15)
Welcome back.. though to most of you probably just joining me, welcome. I’ve been on a sorta hiatus from revewiing due to a combination of procrastination, depression, and being really busy. But I finally decided it was time to put boots to the ground and get back to doing what I love: Going on way too long about children’s television. As such, with She Ra taking a bow a few weeks back and nailing it I got to thinking about another show that just so happened to end the year before: Star Vs the Forces of Evil. Part of it was very simple: She ra ended on a trriumphant note, making a well set up romance that had been it’s backbone canon, having a wonderful final battle, tons of payoff and a throughly happy ending that satisfied all involved and got tons of well earned coverage for having a deep, meaningful relationship between two lesbians finally coming together being the thing that saves the universe. It was freaking great. Meanwhile a year prior Star Vs, after having been treated like toilet dinner by disney for no good reason by having it’s final season shoved out over a few sundays after a yearlong hiatus.. ended not with a bang, but with a wah wah trumpet. The series ending was unsatisfying, left more questions than answers, had the title character loose all likeablity and was in general miserable. I hadn’t been this pissed off at a finale since How I Met Your Mother and hadn’t seen a romance botched this badly in animation since “Merry Christmas Mordecai”. It was BADDDDD. However it did make me want to go back to the series; To revisit the good, the bad and the just plain weird to remember what made me love the series, what made me want to throw my tv into a river before reminding myself “No dude, shit’s expensive. “, and what COULD have been, what SHOULD have been and what WASN’T. So i’ll be reviewing assorted episodes.. and the best place to start for me was with the introduction of one of the series best characters, as well as at the same time the start of a ship that was a good idea at first but would slowly take the series down with it as it started to fall apart. This is Blood Moon Ball. There will be blood, and a dead horse, after the cut.
Before we get into the episode, one of the series most notable and honestly a damn good one, for those 2 of you not familiar with the series a quick refresher: Star VS is the story of Star Butterfly, a rebelious 14 year old princess from the Kingdom of Mewni. Mewni is your standard medievil fantasy kingdom.. but you know with wifi because they have magic compacts that work as phones and large sale acess to the multiverse. Their also ruled over by a long sucession of queens with great and terrible magic power, which is channeld through an increidbly powerful wand that’s passed down from generation to generation. On her 14th birthday Star gets her turn with the wand.. and not long after sets everything on fire. Not wanting the kingdom to get blown up while Star figures out thing, her parents send her to Earth, and after bribing the school principal into enroling her, that’s not a joke on my part but an actual joke from the pilot, Star soon becomes an exchange student, boarding with the Diazes and soon becoming best friends with their teenage son Marco, a saftey obessed, shy talented martial artist. The two are frequently forced to beat up the hordes of Ludo, a spoiled monster king who wants the wand for himself. Things would get way darker... like in literally two seconds as the revelation star’s people stole mewni from the monsters and Star’s hatred being revealed to be partly racisim instead of standard hero and villian stuff. But that’s for future reviews. Today we have demons, internet commentors and ship tease to get to. So with the basic premise set up let’s finally get on with it. We open on the arrival of my boy and yours, hopefully, Tom Lucitor. Tom is the prince of the underworld, basically exactly what it sounds like: fire, brimstone, demons spooky scary skeltons sending shivers up your spine. He’s also Star’s ex boyfriend. How they broke up is.. never really explained. While more details about their relationship, includign the fact Tom bought Star her iconic Devil Horn headband on their frist date, were revealed in the tie-in spellbook, and reveals that star’s arson that got her sent to mewni happened right after her and tom broke up, but never explains WHY. My guess is since the series clearly frames the breakup as Tom’s fault in this episode and on his anger, they probably didn’t want a scene of him screaming his head off at star, either to keep him sympathetic or , more likely, because a scene of a teenage girl watching her boyfriend having a rage fueld breakdown that leads to htem breaking up would be MASSIVELY uncomfortable to watch and unlike some uncomfortable to watch scenes, wouldn’t tell us anything we didn’t know already. So unlike some later things they never pulled the trigger on this one at least makes sense. Anywho, Tom arrives, parking in the handicap spot (a nice little gag as Star’s crush at the time Oskar points it out, while the dead skeletal horse pulling tom’s carriage turns around to look at him), and all the girls stop and stare.. including Janna, who would probably regret this moment once she realize tom was a bad boy because he’s socially awkard and has anger issues. Basically he’s Kylo Ren but his redemption dosen’t come straight out of JJ Abrhams ass. Tom arrives at Star’s classroom, removes his shade and damn if he dosen’t have game.. but naturally showing up unnannaounced to her school (Not that TOm probably gets what school is as Mewni dosen’t have those, but still), basically assuming she’ll go out with him, after they had a messy breakup it dosen’t go well and we get a great cut of Star shoving tom back into his carriage.. we also get the best joke of the episode. Star: So take your invitation and your fire and your dead horse and go. Dead Horse: wait.. i’m dead? Sad but hilarious. Anyways it’s quickly conved to viewers like us that Tom has anger problems, but he insists to star he’s doing better: he has an anger managment counsler he takes with him places, Brian, voiced by the wonderful and weirdly in Disney’s pocket these days Stephen Root, and a bunny he pets. Before star can pet said bunny Marco , KARATE CHOPS TOM’S HAND OFF.. I just.. until this review I hadn’t sat back to consider just how freakishly strong that boy is , that he can just accidently chop off a hand. I mean tom may have weak joints or something but even after taking far worse blows later on his hands just.. don’t come off. Tom flies itnto a rage and it becomes clear that yeah, whatever happened, it was tom’s fault, and given the kind of rage she flies into, you can see why i’d assume the writers really didn’t want the audience to see him at his worst. I certainly don’t. Star both worried and clearly having seen this sort of thing go bad before urges Marco to run but tom quickly recovers, both reuniting with his hand and having calmed down, and he and Marco are formally introduced, with star explaning the invite. We also get a great line with marco encouraging her “Star never go with a preadator to a second location”. This show was damn good at getting shit past the radar and i’m here for it. Anyways, Star isn’t quite sold despite tom clearly TRYING to get better, and Tom , in a really nice move, gives her a bell and tiny hammer to summon his carriage with if she decides to go but leaves it up to her, not pressuring her or anything. For how selfish tom is initially.. this is a spark that shows h’es not a TERRIBLE person, just one who has some growing up to do. Marco however is not convinced and wants to go with, with Star teling him no because A) he wasn’t invited and it’d be rude to ask and B), she appricates the concerns but she can handle this, and implicily, despite her reckless nature knows this is a risk but knows if the night turns she can handle Tom, and that maybe he’s changed. Marco insists Tom can’t change.. which I find hilarious given his massive character arc to the point I had as eires ofessays planned, and one don about his growth before deciding to change formats to doing each ep of his journey instead every so often, to the point where two years on in the series timeline.. we’ve gone from Marco thinking Tom is a predator to...
youtube
But star decides to go and .. it’s clear from the subtext that while part of it is clear concern for star, Marco’s line about “it being fun here all the time” may mean that while he DOES have the best intentions.. part of him is jealousssssss. More on that in a bit. For now we go to the underworld with the second best gag of the episode as Tom is toning down the spookiness to please star, and one of the guys in the picture at the top insults him... and when tom asks which one he says me. We sadly don’t get an answer but it’s small gags like this that made me want to do this episode by episode. Star arrives.. and things quickly go south. Tom tries giving her a corsage that’s a live spider and she rejects it. This admitely looks bad on both as Tom , living in you know, a hell dimenson probably sees it as a sweet gesture, and Star is refusing it.. but star does so POLITELY, and for understandable reasons, and Tom is still clearly pissed about it. Not long after, they line up for what’s essentially a prom photo.. and to get Carried by a bucket of unicorn blood, another nice little gag. Star refuses since well her best friend is a unicorn, one of them anyway, or at least it’s head.. and yes one of the species in this series multiverse is a bunch of headless unicorns. IT’s wonderful. And star also notices tom needs his anger managment bunny and is clearly pissed about it when, having dated her for several months, clearly should’ve KNOWN this might bother her. That’s really tom’s problem here: He wants everything his way on his terms and only compromises if he thinks it’ll get star to do things with him. He’s made the PRETENSE of changing.. but he really dosen’t WANT to yet. He just wants her back and wants to change just enough to get her back so he can stop trying again. He also may , due to the underworld being diffrent and a place where being covered in a bucket of blood is a time honored tradition instead of the thing that turns a young mutant into a mass murderer, and yes I think a carrie x-men crossover would be the shit. He probably dosen’t GET that star wouldn’t like a spider corasge or bathing in her best friends blood.. but the problem isn’t that. that’s culture shock, that can be bridged with some talk.. the problem is tom dosen’t want to talk, he just wants her to do what he wants and things to be all cool and to get his way. Being a prince with two loving parents, we’ll meet them soon enough just not this episode, and tons of servants, I get the impressionf rom this and other episodes tom simply isn’t USED to not getting what he wants. He’s not USED to being told “No”, and thus has no way to deal with it healthily and isntead lashes out like an angry toddler. It dosen’t make his actions RIGHT but it does make them more understandable and makes it so Tom’s later growth FEELS natural depsite some of his sketchier actions beforehand.
Back at Marco’s house, Marco is depressed eating nachos in a sumbrero.. which if I had corn chips, cheese and a sombrero would probably be my daily life right about now. It’s then we get a WEIRD dropped bit, as Marco hears a weird piratey voice telling him the blood moon is the moon for lovers and stuff. This is IMPLIED to be his monster arm, from an earlier episode.. but it’s.. never explained. Whatever it was going to be was dropped. Which would be fine if the blood moon itself and the end of this episode didn’t get a full explination in season 4 with the writers clearly going back to it to resolve the dangling thread.. but still not explaning the spooky voice. I mean what was it? Marco’s pirate ancestor? the sea captain from the simpsons? the monster arm? terry that bastard? Burt Macklin FBI? Old Man Withers the guy who runs the amusment park? Dirk Dastardely? A sentient payphone? The alps? Tell us damn you! Okay that tangent aside Marco decides to party crash at the advice of the ominous voice.. seriously is it Flintheart Glomgold? Nevermind. Back at the ball star is bonding with a small skeletal fish int he magma punch whent his random asshole comes up and whines for a good minute,if hilariously so, about the ball being changed.
He’s feels, looks and acts like the combination of those morons who were mad adora wasn’t “as hot” in the she ra reboot and was aged down to a teenager and the threw it on the ground guy. After that interlude, tom shoos away a guy asking star to dance and the guy makes vauge comments about tom wanting his and star’s souls to be link while making kissy nosies. Before Tom can explain what he means by that, or at least lie about what he means by that, the blood moon is about the drop, the lights turn red and tom walks off because he wants the music to be perfect. And then Marco arrives in his really damn cool calevara outfit. Which fair play, I can see why, besides ship reasons, it gets a lot of art: it looks really damn neat. Speaking of shipping.. it’s time. Star, not realizing it’s marco, dances with him.. quite romantically in fact. It’s here that the show conciously starts Shipping star and marco together. Starco is born, and the scnee is really good: romantic, well animated, jsut great all around. While the ship would .. end up done rather poorly and lead to some really terrible stuff at the time.. it wasn’t abd and already shipping them I loved this and even now, even knowing what woudl come later... it’s not a bad sequence. The only bad thing is what would come later, but I can’t fault the writers of THIS EP for what they would do in a LATER ONE. That’s just not fair. The ship wasn’t bad to start and the later arc springing from it in season 2 would be good.. it just quickly went in bad directions as the series went on , then disappeared, then how it finallyc ame about was just awful. But as much as I want to.. I can’t blame the sequence on this. It didn’t create rabid shippers or poor writing, it was just good and deserves to be praised as such. Naturally tom takes this about as well as me when I found out HBO max wouldn’t be on roku at launch and prepares to murder Marco.. and promptly gets frozen by star who decides to wisely get out of there. It’s a ncie moment.. and reminder that Star is crazy powerful, as is the wand itself, because as we’ll see later, tom is no slouch himself in the power department, but even if her attack was from behind, she still stopped him in one move. So Star takes marco home and dresses him down for sneaking in, understandbly so: while it was an iffy situation, Star knew who she was dealing with and as shown at the end, was strong enough that tom was no threat to her, and given what we learn later, Tom’s parents would likely never let her come to real harm. For all her reckless decision making, Star thought this one out and Marco shoudl’ve repsectied that and didn’t for his own reasons. To his credit though he apologizes, Star admits to liking the dance, then the two speak in unison a few times, and we wont’ get followup on that till the last season! Roll credits. I don’t have the credits for this episode so enjoy this instead:
youtube
Final Thoughts: Blood Moon Ball is a spectacular ep. A good plot, a great introduction for tom, and great animation and humor really make the episode pop and it’s nice to get our first look at the underworld and tom himself. Tom would be back, and i’ll be back to tom eventually, but on it’s own the episode is really good and it’s standout sequence still holds up even as starco ended up in the sewer quality wise. All in all a great ep and a great starting point if you haven’t watched the show yet. Coming Soon: A return to Star in the near future probably since Tom is great and his second ep deserves love too, as do several other star eps, as well as a look at the saluna episodes of the loud house because i’m in a gay mood for obvious reasons, and a loud house mood for less obvious reasons. Until then, feel free to hit me up with asks with suggestions or commisosns for future reviews, and until next time, later days.

When it comes to content, I leave overrated stuff alone, and yearn to increase underrated stuff, even content that may be overrated in many areas, but underrated in others. I also encourage differing opinions of such content; people can like a certain content that others hate, and vice versa; I have no problem with that; just as long as no one harasses, bullies, trolls, denigrates, or threatens others who do not think the same way they do.
I also encourage alternative sites for content, as well as many more websites solely for entertainment purposes.
For everyone else in Tumblr, as well as many others in other websites, be creative, bring up new ideas and opinions, teach people something interesting, make what you like, encourage other people to do the same, and be cordial and respectful to one another. I wish you the best of luck.
