On Gothic
a cute helpful guide on the gothic subculture that no one asked for <3
goth music springing from the late 1970s after the post punk movement was a subculture heavily inspired by the themes found in victorian gothic literature
gothic literature:
frankenstein - mary shelley
dracula - bram stoker
jekyll and hyde - robert stevenson
wuthering heights - emily bronte
rebecca - daphne du maurier
edgar allen poe <3
Tumblr media
some keywords that come from gothic literature that can help you spot a goth song:
'dark' 'death' 'black' 'cold' 'heaven' 'hell' 'witches 'bats' 'night' 'roses' 'blood' 'church' 'forest' 'jesus' 'grey' 'horror' 'shadow' 'sacrifice' 'tears' 'ghost' 'spells' 'cry' 'love' 'haunted' 'funeral' 'cathedral'
Some other themes in a song that can help you to decide if it goth or not can be:
heavy bass
synth sounds (the song sounds like it was recorded in an empty church)
mysterious and whimsical vocals
deep vocals
lack of a (electric) guitar
The 1980's and 90's were the peak for the gothic subculture, especially in camden market, london, england
Tumblr media

The 69 Eyes
Tumblr media
Please let me know which ones i've missed because these are just ones that I have taken from my own playlist!
The music is the number one most important part of goth subculture and you don't have to dress goth to be goth... but it sure is fun to do so! Goth fashion holds its roots in thrifting, upcycling and sustainable fashion (buying 'goth' clothes from shein, dollskill and killstar is a big no no).
Anyone can style their gothic outfits however they like but here are some examples of different styles:
Trad(itional) Goth:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Romantic Goth:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Victorian Goth:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The styles can get very similar so let me know if i’ve mixed any up!
I’ve reached the limit on the number of pictures i can add so here are some more examples of goth styles:
Corporate goth
Gothabilly
Mall Goth
Cyber Goth
J-Goth
Baby Bat
Mopey Goth
Vampire Goth
Steam punk
To end the post i'm circling back to gothic literature by listing some films too (which are often based on the books)
Everyone's beloved: Bela Lugosi in the first adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula in 1931
Tumblr media
The Crow 1994 which comes with a song from The Cure
Tumblr media
Interview with the Vampire 1994
Tumblr media
The Rocky Horror Picture Show 1975
Tumblr media
Edward Scissor Hands 1990
Tumblr media
The Addams family 1991 (if he's not like gomez then i don't want him)
Tumblr media
The Craft 1996
Tumblr media
That's all I have for now and if you made it this far thank you so much for reading and have a nice day <3
current goth song on repeat:

Eldritch Beings Ahoy! Also Mabel could take my teeth and I'd still protect her.
Reality was a strange and resilient thing. It could take a beating and still come back from the brink swinging. No place was this so true as Gravity Falls. The quaint little town had been the epicenter of a tear in reality and, only a year later, it had stitched itself back together with nary an eyebat or madness bubble out of place. Even the people had pushed through the weirdness and emerged unscathed.
“Never-mind all that...”
But nature abhors a vacuum and when you tear open a hole in the multiverse, someone's bound to notice.
I tortured a man in this one!

thanks to everyone who has sent me asks and such saying i understand how to draw for being nice and stuff. i'm going to ramble about some influence/process stuff below if you want to read abt it
this might read as some kind of artistic statement or defense or something but i like to talk about this kind of thing just in case anybody can ever get anything meaningful out of my own thoughts and practices. i got to where i am after a lot of careful consideration and spending time thinking about what i like in other people's art, just like anybody else that makes art to any serious degree.
my "style" is very much a deliberate series of decisions that i have honed into being very fast for my own pleasure and enjoyment because i am very inspired by people like king terry/garo magazine/the heta-uma style, keiichi arawi, inio asano, hiroyuki imaishi, toru nakayama, phil elverum (as a cartoonist), gary panter (who was a friend of matt groening and wrote an essay about selling out that is worth reading and did a lot of stuff with RAW magazine which is one of my favorite things to think about), DIY/skatewear brand t shirt cartoons, early MSPA hussie stuff, etc. a lot of my favorite artists walk a line between constant high effort and low time investment art; often contrasting elaborately planned perspective grids or high resolution rendering with simple cartooning. asano and arawi i think are very clear and famous examples of artists that use 3d rendering and photography for backgrounds while drawing very deliberate and expressive characters on top of them. toru nakayama is really inspiring to me because he, like toriyama, has a very deep understanding of form AND cartooning and has a way of making extremely densely crafted cartoons which feel visceral and almost like plastic toys you can pick up and play with on the page. also just one of my favorite colorists. and i think hussie and arawi and imaishi are all fantastic character designers with very strong understandings of designing art styles that convey information very quickly and deliberately; i think bryan lee omalley and jamie hewlett were also big early influences on me for the same thing- they all have art styles with very clear line/negative space proportions, strong shape language, etc, and for a long time in my life i have sought to grasp a similar understanding of these things. and then i think phil elverum's fancy people adventures cartoons and just like skate brands and "shitty" DIY drawings and stuff (the album art for nana grizol's love it love it is like burned into my brain forever; seeing basquiat paintings and poems in a museum when i was 15 made me feel whatever and crazy and etc) are just something that serve as a constant reminder to me that some of the most effective art is art that is simply fun to look at, especially when it comes to making comic and cartoon art. simplicity and joie de vivre are very important to me as artistic concepts.
and i mean, i do fuck with crazy painter dudes and shit too; i was huge into goya when i was 14 and had a print of the witches sabbath taped to my wall until i was like 22, i fw waterhouse & bruegel the elder insanely. i am like a sponge for most kinds of art and i do a lot of art research all the time. most of my first book was heavily influenced by compositional techniques from pre-raphaelite painters and the iconography of egyptian & greek wall art and especially especially extremely crowded gothic art and the concept of horror vacui.
but anyway, im not really insecure about my art, i know how much effort and time and practice and research i've put in, i definitely know my strengths regarding cartooning and stuff, and i'm even more aware of where my work needs "improvement" in order to be "commercially viable." i've been in multiple positions in the past several years of taking art seriously where other people have been dismissive of my art and i've seen other people fail to capture the energy & simplicity that i am able to get in my own art, etc.
for people interested in my Process and the things that i work on to draw the way that i do, the way i have gotten whatever skills i have has been mostly through drawing the same things over and over and over (toenail, cavity, pimple, gunk, making different expressions and doing different poses); i draw in pen MOST of the time, and i have for a very long time, and i make few edits, and i focus on keeping energy and confidence in my lines; i do perspective studies, i've spent a lot of time doing gesture drawings and environmental studies inside and outside. i draw a lot of movie frames and do color studies of youtube videos and stuff like that. i remember reading some kind of criticism of post-KAWS/street art infiltration of commercial art that artists now are most rewarded for drawing literally the same thing over and over and over like their hands are printers and that the main thing artists are then allowed to do within that context is express themselves through minor variations within that key theme; i don't think im THAT rote but it has definitely informed my perpsective on what i do and what i am interested in doing. on some level i have designed my art to be easily reproducible by myself because i want to make comics and sometimes even to animate my characters and that requires me to be able to draw a lot of drawings relatively quickly. this is another reason why character designers and video game key artists are such massive influences on me, takehito harada and akiman and toshiyuki kusakihara being some huge ones i've spent a lot of time doing studies of i didn't mention previously.
and because the main way i make money at this point in my life is through screen printing & reproducing my drawings as items for sale, i spend a lot of time making my art Distinct, Eye Catching, and Iconic, to the degree of instant recognizability even on a t shirt or a sticker from far away, and i try to make my drawings strictly legible and generally focus on communicating ideas and emotions through big thematic and emotional gestures and strong colors that can be easily separated. this is one of the main reasons i havent developed as strong of a rendering/coloring habit; that kind of stuff is difficult to color separate for the purpose of solo DIY screen printing. but i've spent a pretty decent amount of time doing that stuff, and i spend time studying forms regardless, with the lines that i do use. a lot of my sketchbooks are me drawing literally the same thing over and over slightly differently until i have something that i feel is a strong enough cartoon to make into a shirt or patch or sticker design that satisfies a litany of criteria i have for what i consider strong cartooning.
anyway that was a very rambling post but i hope at least people get something out of it even if its just slight entertainment from me blowing hot air out of my mouth for 20 minutes.

Any recommendations for someone who wants to get into goth music (and likes heavier metal and rock)?
You could start off with gothic rock. It was my intro to the scene and, in my experience of playing goth music to non goths, it's the most accessible.
A few of my favorites are The Sisters of Mercy (+ First and Last and Always and Vision Thing), Fields of The Nephilim (after their disbandment their frontman formed a gothic metal band called The Nefilim), Rosetta Stone, Pretentious Moi?, Behind The Scenes (at least their first album), Temple of Angels, Solemn Novena. But if you want more of the most notable bands there's also The Cure (this & the all time classic Disintegration r my favs of theirs), Killing Joke, The Damned, Bauhaus (who are a bit less accessible than the rest).
If you want to go more obscure, I have a whole playlist that's primarily lesser known bands, nothing but goth rock (with the last song, Ladykiller, being gothic metal so just ignore that one lol - although, while gothic metal isn't considered part of the scene due to being an offshoot of doom metal, I and a lot of other goths I know still listen to it, so if you haven't delved into that but want to go on a sidequest after this I have a list for it too.)
Some other bands (darkwave, ethereal wave, post punk, etc): Corpus Delicti (loud guitars), London After Midnight, Rope Sect, Die Laughing, Inkubus Sukkubus, Cocteau Twins, The Eden House, Wisborg, Horror Vacui, The Merry Thoughts, Nosferatu, Autumn, Lycia, The Mission, Pink Turns Blue. Some bands that have stronger metal elements or are metal with heavy goth rock elements: Cemetery Echo, Tiamat (only some albums), Theatre of Tragedy's Aegis, Lepra (last one's one of my fav recent discoveries, black metal with deathrocky vocals).
By no means comprehensive but hopefully something here works as a gateway for you!

Ok, I have a theory for the magnus protocol.
So while it seems pretty clear by now that, yes, the entities from tma are also the same ones in tmagp, I DO NOT BELIEVE FOR ONE SECOND JONNY AND ALEX ARE GONNA KEEP IT AT THAT! Let me explain:
All the major entities are back, which seems pretty clear from cases like TMAGP 3 (the corruption), TMAGP 5 (clearly the eye) and TMAGP 15 (the hunt). There are some cases though that I don't think really fit any of the entities we already know. So I believe there are going to be new entities, but rather than being big, lovecraftian, universal fears like the entities, they're going to be more like phobias, in that some people have them and other people just don't. I mean just look at needles. They have this whole insecurity about actually being scary and act like they are only just getting used to being a fear entity. So that would be trypanophobia aka fear of needles. Then there's the snakes in the walls ep, which some people are saying is the corruption, but I think it would be more interesting if it was its own thing, so there we have ophidiophobiaor fear of snakes. I can't really immediately think of any other examples, except maybe that ep 8 running on empty might make a case for horror vacui aka keno-phobia or fear of empty spaces and emptiness. So yeah, that's my theory.
I do have one last thing to back this up, although I might be reading too much into this. If you go the official soundtrack for the magnus protocol by Sam Jones, there's a track there I'm pretty certain has played in all of the aforementioned cases. It's title? PHOBIAS S1

Here're the next characters I drew on the list. I'm happy how these turned out! And I got to redesign Mormor and Titania. A bit about them:
Day 5: Rev. The sidekick. This little red fox is Hilda's companion. He's her common sense, her guide. He never stops her but tries his best to advise her to not do The Stupid Thing™ and he's there to give her the "I told you so" look. He's a little helping guide in her journey to retrieve the relics and is there for her emotional support. They've known each other ever since Rev was but a little pup. Although doesn't stop Hilda from learning the consequences of her actions, he deeply cares for her and doesn't like seeing her being hurt. He's smart, careful, and likes living a peaceful and quiet life in the forest.
Day 6: Mormor. The guide. She is the matriarch of Hilda's clan. She's one of the oldest huldras in the story and she's Hilda's grandmother. She's very wise but also very tough. Often scolding Hilda for going to the human town. Fed up with Hilda's careless outings, she's set on teaching her granddaughter some responsibility by sending her on what she thinks is a wild-goose-chase: to retrieve some long lost and powerful artifacts, giving her only an ancient and damaged book as a clue. When Hilda shows up with the first artifact, she's shocked and, though doesn't show it as much, very proud. Mormor also misses her youngest daughter, Hilda's mother, greatly. When Hilda was young, she often reminisced about her to her grandchild.
Day 7: Faeye. The bad influence. The princess of the fae folk is a spoiled brat who doesn't care about the consequences of her actions. In the story, she's an obstacle to Hilda's character growth. In the beginning, she's the one who started suggesting Hilda to go to the human city with her, messing with the humans and getting themselves into trouble. Selfish, narcissistic and a prankster, she manipulates and toys with the lives of those around her to her whims. The only person she seems to somewhat care about is her bodyguard Rhiannon, but even so she likes to pull some mischief on her from time to time.
Day 8: Queen Titania. Here we go with the ruler of faeries! She's the mother of Faeye and she's married to the king Oberon. Her appearance is always changing, like the seasons. On her body you can find a sort of "horror vacui" of plants, flowers, minerals, animals, insects and even elements. She governs over the whole fae realm and she resides at the core of the Earth. However one should always be careful around her since she's as chaotic and unpredictable as the weather. She can be very kind or very cruel, or at least humans would perceive her actions as such but the fae's definition of what's "good" or "bad" are very different from that of a human's perspective. Mortality is a joke for her and she finds funny how it works. Powerful and towering even over the tallest of trees, she possess the control over all of nature.

uncle brought over my stack of art school era (2013~) artwork plates thats been gathering dust in my old dorm and i kinda wanna share a few. bear with me almost all of these are abstract shit bc you know...fine arts academia. idk
one of the first plates and single-handedly is to blame for my disdain of drawing straight lines: color mixing chart we have to mix poster color paint for each square and i was poor so i only had the primaries
Tumblr media
i had a pretty high grade here iirc but anyway this is so fucking pointless what the fuck am i gonna do with this and now i just hate rulers and ruling pens
---
color theory/scheme plate and im here to announce that yes, turning brain off and adding as much detail as possible has been a decade old technique apparently
Tumblr media
principles of design plate?
Tumblr media
ngl i still like this one bc look at it
Tumblr media
the concept of horror vacui has stayed in my brain and tbf my prof liked it bc it looks like i put effort. i did, technically, but like how i draw now, its just therapeutic to not think and just move hands instead
----
printmaking plates! lino-cut prints, to be exact. many stabbings happened in the making of these. i think the way i do inktobers have been mostly derived from these. and lino-cuts print is something ive been wanting to pursue but its such an expensive and space consuming medium and that makes me sad. anyway,
prompt here is reframing fairy tales into Philippine culture/setting. so hansel and gretel in a sari-sari store
Tumblr media
i used OCs for the characters here, and the owner of the' taller boy 'hansel' hasn't been my friend for years now but damnit i still love this concept and she's not ruining this for me
prompt for this one is 'morning'. so here's me in my depression college dorm, booting up for the day. rip to my childhood Buttercup doll, i don't know where you are now
Tumblr media
----
last im willing to show is this pest-eaten watercolor landscape painting of UP Lagoon.
Tumblr media
look, we had to go out into a mosquito-infested area at 3pm (the start of our watercolor techniques class) and paint this before 5:30 (end of class) but in practice its less than an hour time bc the sun was setting and we can't see shit anymore let alone what color that one flower is.
turned out p good still i think

Writing Share Tag!
Thank you @drchenquill for this tag.
I’ll share a bit from my current WIP: Horror Vacui.
Enjoy!
————
“No need, Mr. Eyre,” she said. I would have protested had it been anyone else. However, I found myself quite content to relax and fold my hands in my lap obediently. I wondered what I had done to merit her attention. Perhaps I had frightened students or offended the Assembly in some way. I found myself beginning to panic. Gray stopped immediately in front of a pair of two solid oak doors.
“Mr. Eyre,” she said, and her eyes bore into mine.
Did she have any other expression? I wondered to myself
“I understand that the past few years, and few months in particular, have not been easy on you,” she said, her tone and gaze slightly softened. I had been expecting a lecture, or some sort of reprimand, but this caught me off guard.
“I want you to understand that had I any warning, this issue would have been addressed sooner. However,” she said, removing her glasses and wiping them with her loose sleeve, “considering the circumstances, I thought it best to bring you up to date on....certain matters as soon as possible.” She returned her spectacles to their rightful place, atop her nose. “Please take as much time as you need, and come see me immediately when you leave this room. Do you understand?” She asked expectantly. And there it was.
This was about her.
They had finally found her, and it was my fault.
My fault that she was gone, my fault that she had left.
“Mr.Eyre,” Gray snapped, and I then realized everything had faded out of focus momentarily. “Are you listening?” she asked.
“Yes,” I said, I think. I couldn't be sure. I couldn't hear anything above the sound of my blood pounding in my ears. This was my fault, and she wanted me to know it.
“Then go in,” she said gently, nodding to the overbearing doors ahead of me, “When you're ready.” With that, she turned once more, heading towards the interior rooms down the hall. I looked up at the only thing separating me from Zyra, now. This was it. I knew this would happen. I knew she hadn't found anything. I knew it had taken her too long.
“And Dorian,” Gray called back, her voice resonating against the metallic walls. Startled, I turned to look at her. “Take all the time you need,” she said, smiling softly before continuing down the walkway.
It's just a door, I told myself. I reached for the handle and made my way inside.

Tales From Qyleoth by Marvin Yaxam
Tumblr media
Pretty appealing package here, risograph cardstock cover over newsprint interior. It feels very grubby, there’s a low-key fantasy feel that feels accurate to a certain early seventies moment when Led Zeppelin smoked weed and wrote songs about The Hobbit. In 2024, what Yaxam is doing comes off like an underground comics Fraggle Rock, or Brian Blomerth doing Elfquest. No weird sexism, just weird little guys whose landscape is abundant with garbage, having their little interpersonal dramas. Lots of horror vacui textured grot for you you exhaust your eyes over. This is a collection of three shorter comics all brought together. I feel like this is what a lot of people want to find when they go to a small press show or shop that specializes in self-published comics, a new version of something they’ve been interested in historically.

XDINARY HEROES AS AESTHETICS.
Tumblr media
🌐 seya : before we dive into an amazing world of web-aesthetics, there are few things that i’d like to point out. first of all, i chose aesthetic for each member based solely on my associations with their vibe. meaning: i associate the vibe of aesthetic with them, rather than the history behind it. secondly, some of the information was gathered from such sites as:
https://cari.institute/aesthetics.
https://www.are.na.
https://eyeondesign.aiga.org.
now that we got that out of the way — enjoy!
𝐠𝐨𝐨 𝐠𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐥 : 𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐑 𝐊𝐈𝐓𝐒𝐂𝐇
Tumblr media
“baby boomer & silent generation revival of various 1940s-1950s cultural iconography, design, and kitsch associated with diner, drive-in's and malt shop culture. jukeboxes, poodle skirts, 1950s advertising kitsch, neon, chromed-out automobiles, metallic paneling, 'american graffiti'-style fonts.” — ©️ cari institute.
diner kitsch – aesthetic familiar to everyone, yet not that many people know it’s actual name (or that it is, in fact, an aesthetic!). checkered floors and walls, milkshakes, burgers, neon signs and, of course, waitresses on roller skates — these things define diner kitsch. originating from 1950s, when diners were seen as a place, where you could enjoy a hearty comfort food and have a good time with your family or friends it was finally revived in our years through media that depicts mainly high schoolers or travelers of any sorts, going out for a dinner.
🌐 seya : i chose diner kitsch for gunil because he is literally the embodiment of a nerdy boy who would definetely hang out with his group of friends in a place like that. doing homework, reading comics, getting cookies on the house because of how often they visit a diner… 🥤🍔 yum!
𝐤𝐢𝐦 𝐣𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐮 : 𝐍𝐄𝐎𝐍 𝐍𝐎𝐈𝐑
Tumblr media
“the term neon-noir is a film genre, but it can also represent an aesthetic. this aesthetic includes a brooding, mysterious, cyberpunk, and dangerous atmosphere. the neon-noir aesthetic can be related somewhat to the sibling-genre neo-noir (without the “n”), including avant-garde fashion, femme fatale style, dark clothing, technology, and neon lights.” — ©️ wendy zhou (from her blog wendyzhou.se)
neon-noir (also known as future-, cyber-, tech-noir) was born in the film industry around 1980s, when sci-fi was blooming yet again. not so popular in web, it is still quite known in gamer community, thanks to such games like “cyberpunk 2077”, “anno mutationem”, “blade runner” etc. this aesthetic is mixing old-school noir with futuristic elements, giving it a whole new look. neon signs, robots, androids, futuristic technology are going hand in hand with good old detective genre, accented shadows, rain and fog.
🌐 seya : i find this aesthetic to be the most suiting to jungsu. i can imagine him in this type of setting so well and i’d actually like to read or even write something, where he is portrayed as a detective in a mysterious and futuristic setting!
𝐤𝐰𝐚𝐤 𝐣𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐨𝐤 : 𝐂𝐈𝐃𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐅𝐈𝐗
Tumblr media
“rule-bending, medium-blending "instagram grunge". full of horror vacui, chrome type, oddball textures and self-referentialism.” — ©️ cari institute.
originated in the 1990s and revived in 2010s, acidgrafix (also known as: acid graphics and acid design) aesthetic is mainly seen nowadays on the covers of music albums. bright colors (usually red, orange and neon green, neon yellow, neon purple), wireframes, distorted images, liquid metal forms – all of these are key elements of acidgrafix. the term acid, as you might’ve already guessed, came from the acid house and rave culture. it first appeared on flyers, used to promote and to invite people to raves. smiley faces (of course, resembling nothing else but the actual drug), op-art-esque patterns, sci-fi futurism – all of these were such an eye candy for party-goers, that soon enough this style overtook the music industry. after being long forgotten in the 00s, acidgrafix finally found it’s new home in instagram, where musicians would design their insta-stories and albums with all of the key details of this aesthetic.
🌐 seya : aaand this is the part that i was worried about the most. this aesthetic took it’s origins not from the best culture, but i still find it’s style being quite suiting for gaon. it’s bright, innovative and bold – just like he is!
𝐨𝐡 𝐬𝐞𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐦𝐢𝐧 : 𝐓𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐏𝐔𝐍𝐊
Tumblr media
"the millennial and gen-z iteration of edgy grunge aesthetics, associated closely with "pop punk" and the store hot topic." — ©️ cari institute.
*puts a cd in the drive, "girlfriend" by avril lavigne starts playing* now that we're in the mood, let us find out what the hell is a teen punk. the dirty, the angry, the free and THE wild – this aesthetic conveys the whole essence of the rebellious period that every teenager eventually goes through. you can usually see this movement being expressed through clothes, style, make up and, most importantly, music, rather then the way you could draw something or edit a photo. mainly seem in early 00s, teen punk found it's new home in hearts of people through nostalgia that overtook us all as soon as pandemic started. this aesthetic combines different colors like foggy green and blue, obviously black, red and pink (yes, the tricolor of emo aesthetic is very important here). essential details of teen punk are denim jackets, torn jeans, big ass t-shirts with logos of musical groups, fishnets and those humongous military boots that everyone used to wear. the pioneers of this movement are mainly musical artists, like the infamous avril lavigne, all-time favorites my chemical romance, green day, paramore etc.
🌐 seya : now i need you to look me dead in the eyes and say that THIS isn't his aesthetic. bro literally dresses as if hot topic was more grunge and still managed to survive.
𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐲𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐣𝐮𝐧 : 𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐓𝐈 𝐏𝐎𝐏
Tumblr media
"first wave of corporate appropriation of graffiti culture. typically includes urban streetscapes & iconography contemporary to the time period (eg. trash cans, brick walls, chain link fencing, street lamps, sidewalks, industrial elements, general 'urban decay'). it's also associated with that eras' portrayal of street, hip hop, & punk culture." — ©️ cari institute.
disclaimer: this part is mostly retelling of an article from this site: https://www.grafftergallery.com/2023/08/graffiti-pop-art-vivid-intersection-of.html | i really don't think that i would be able to express myself better than they already did, so let me give the credit to the rightful authors!
this aesthetic is a firm proof of the dynamic between street culture and the world of art that was born in early 80s and was especially popular till the 00s. bright colors, bold splashes of different patterns, provocative slogans, popular singers, models, tv personalities – it screams fight for the freedom of self expression. this movement is first and foremost was heavily affected by socio-political issues, causing street artists to voice their concerns through art. graffiti itself is a rebellious act (you're literally damaging private property) and when you mix this with media icons and pop culture that was thriving, you're guaranteed to have all the attention that you need.
🌐 seya : i feel like this aesthetic really suits jun han because in my eyes he is one of the most brave idols in terms of expressing himself through his style and art.
𝐥𝐞𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐨𝐧 : 𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐑𝐎 𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐌

"let's take a look at what is included in such aesthetics as retro-surrealism (also known as airbrush surrealism and included in the subgenres of retro-futurism), shall we?"
retro is an imitation or conscious derivative of a lifestyle, trend, or art form from history, included in music, fashion, or looks. the retro art movement always invariably revives and in one way or another refers to everything that happened in the past. surrealism is an art direction that always strives to revolutionize human experience. it balances a rational vision of life with one that asserts the power of the unconscious and dreams. combining these two trends of media art, we get abstract paintings made in the style of sci-fi comics from the 70s-90s. very often they feature elements such as musical instruments, outer space and electronic objects such as telephones, radios, televisions, etc. usually such paintings are airbrushed, which gives them a slightly hazy, matte effect, typical for surrealism (promotes immersion into the unconscious me thinks!).
🌐 seya : i love, love, LOVE this one so much, i just had to give it to my favorite boy jooyeon! i feel like this one suits jooyeon just because he looks like that one dude obsessed with weird ass comic books, always going around with his old mp3 player and vibing to daft punk bangers. sorry not sorry, no one is getting this image out of my head.
