In the USA, this product is sold only for use in ferrets for treatment of Adrenal disease. It is used off-label in birds and illegal in chickens, ducks and other poultry since the FDA considers them "food animals"

The implant comes pre-loaded in an insertion device and administered while the bird is sedated or under anesthesia. The duration of effectiveness ranges from 4 to 6 months depending on the size of the implant (4.7 mg or 9.4 mg) and the particular bird."

(Yes it is illegal to use this implant in a food animal. If it's a pet chicken a lot of vets will prescribe it to your bird anyway. This is because you don't want to use hormones with potentially food producing animals despite the implant stopping egg laying.)

My leghorns have used these for years and it definitely lengthened their lifespan. Unfortunately they can stop functioning with chronic use but it can still save your birds life or lengthen their lifespan for a few years.

Kimhan Theerapanyakul, barely fifteen years old, sneaks a bottle of Tankhun’s pills that night. Tankhun doesn’t ask for them back, if he has any idea where they went; they’re replaced by the end of the day, and the theft goes unmentioned. So does Kim, when his scent mellows and fades over the coming weeks, until it’s barely there at all. He has seen what it means to be an alpha in this family, and he doesn’t want it.

I have seen multiple people get distraught about the potential stress their hen might endure if they get the Suprelorin Implant for their hen which prevents egg laying and recently The Unusual Pet Vets on Facebook posted about an ISA brown who underwent the procedure so I wanted to share it to help ease anyone's anxieties. If a hen is well handled they shouldn't have to be put under for this as local anesthetic should work just fine and shouldn't put the bird under any unnecessary risk.

This post should also be a good reference for how your vet should treat your bird, with consideration and respect.

As you can see Maple here was not very stressed during the implant insertion and went right back to eating treats after her treatment. If you have a beloved hen who has reproductive problems and you have access to this treatment do not hesitate if you are worried about the risks of the procedure as it is not very stressful to the bird. It can help hen's lives who are having reproductive troubles improve sometimes within just a few days.

So it’s not the same thing at all but I am also currently dealing with a ridiculous medicine-and-bureaucracy problem and I have no idea what I’m gonna do about it, so I feel your pain.

I got laid off in May and I just started a new job, but the benefits haven’t kicked in yet and won’t for a few weeks. I’m not clear on the exact date because I technically didn’t work full-time hours for the first two weeks during training and the offer letter has kind of vague wording about that. Meanwhile, my prescription for birth control needs to be renewed and I can’t go to my doctor because I’m currently on Medicaid, the awful government insurance that covers nothing, and fsr my doctor’s office doesn’t take it even though just last year their website specifically said they DO and I picked them out specifically because it said that (my bf has had Medicaid for years and I wanted us to have the option to go to the same place, that’s why I know this even though I had better insurance at the time). But I couldn’t find that page and I messaged her office to confirm and they basically admitted it had been a lie.

Anyway I really really like my new doctor and I don’t want to make my appt anywhere else. I spent so long picking out a doctor last year and it was the first time I was actually able to do that myself instead of one being assigned to me in one way or another.

But I only have enough pills for the next three weeks and I just KNOW even if I do get onto the new insurance before I run out, there’s no way it will be processed in time for me to actually make an appt and then pick up the prescription. (I can’t even BOOK the appt without proof of insurance.)

(I think I recently heard something or other about a new OTC birth control pill, and I haven’t looked into it yet but I’m not sure if it’s even available yet or sold near me if so. But even if it is, idk how to tell if it’s similar enough to mine that I can just switch over to it for a month with no problems. I would just ASK MY DOCTOR, but this is America and I can’t even do THAT without the right insurance.)

In THEORY I could go a month without and just be super careful, but I have no idea if that’s safe or what effects it could have or if I’d need to time it a certain way when I started up again.

but if you're wondering it's perfectly fine to start and stop the birth control pill whenever you like. you just won't be protected from pregnancy until you take it for 7 consecutive days again

if you start it right at the beginning of your cycle it's 5 days but any other time it's 7 so really it doesn't matter just start it whenever and give it a week

(if you just happen to randomly miss a day then you should equally be careful for the next 2-3 days just like in general. psa for anyone who didn't know)

Oooooo! I'm very curious about characters like Mapleshade in this au. Since it was mention having kits with other clans is fine, but not romance, would she need to hide anything? She could claim she didn't know what Appledusk did, or denounce him

Maybe do something dramatic to prove her loyalty? I feel like a lot of things could change in this au, since the leader would have no kits. Maybe Appledusk takes her role instead? From what I gathered in the book, he's more of a coward and manipulative, not afraid to throw others under the bus or hide behind them to get away with things. If he claims Maple loved him, when the topic of kits came up, but she rejects, maybe it sets off a chain of events when his other mate overhears?

I do love the idea of Appledusk turning out to be more of the villain… However, it’s not as simple as just shuffling roles around here

I don’t think that Mapleshade, who was utterly convinced that Appledusk loved her and wanted to be with her, would lie about who sired her litter if she was directly asked; I think she’d keep her mouth shut until someone asked, point-blank, if they were also of RiverClan blood. In addition, at the time that Mapleshade’s kits were born, tensions with RiverClan were high; choosing to unveil the fact that her kits were half-Clan at a time in which the two Clans were seconds away from declaring full-blown war specifically because of Birchface’s death, ThunderClan’s deputy, at the hands of the litter’s father would be a huge mistake.

In a game of love and politics, politics usually proves heavier, as it affects more people — or, in this case, cats.

But rest assured, no matter what, even if Mapleshade stays the unfortunate villain in this story, the actions of those around her will not be blindly rewarded.

can i ask why did u guys break up?

we're technically "on a break" while he figures shit out bc his parents kicked him out of their house. This all happened the day after me and him went to a concert together like 2 weeks ago and a couple days after he Said he wanted to go on a break while he figured his life or bc he can't mentally handle everything. He just moved into his own apartment like a week ago and he's starting to talk to his parents again.

Back from the vet and she is very angry with me. Sometimes people worry that their hen will need to be put under to be implanted but that isnt the case, its administered via basically a big needle under the skin. Typically my vet has Greenie be a drop off appointment since she has higher priority cases during the day so im not even with her when she gets her implant as she only needs someone to hold her for about a minute and the vet to give her the implant then she is done.
