One day I’ll go through med school and then I’ll go through residency and then I’ll go through a fellowship and then I’ll be the most crybaby neurosurgeon you could think of. Bursting into tears if I so much as graze ur hypothalamus with my forceps
#Yesterday I shadowed a neurologist for the first time and basically we got done seeing a patient who’s also a heart surgeon#And I turned to the doctor and was like Ok what do we do#The thing is this patient has dementia and we don’t really have a cure for that yet so the study he’s enrolling in is largely observational#Still I expected her to follow up on him in much more frequent increments#Instead this woman goes “we’ll see him in 6-9 months but… not even sure if he’ll be here by then sooo”#Basically implying he might be dead in a year#AND I WAS LIKE. Blown away by how blase she was#And ever since then a fiendish sort of melancholy followed me everywhere I went .#Bc I haven’t stopped thinking about the heart surgeon#I don’t get how she can stop thinking about him#I don’t understand people who can stop thinking about something like that#I know neurologists like her have seen patients come and go many a time but I was disturbed#So I made a pact w myself never to lose my humanity. Half of why I’m so into medicine is bc of its humane aspects#And in 10 years I’ll look back at this and hopefully still be just as annoyingly sensitive as I am today#I think I’m just overall disillusioned w how little humanity some people seem to have but that doesn’t mean I have to be that way too#p

Back on my meds, making a damn decent paycheck despite how many days I had to take off this month, my mom’s feeling better now that she’s home and we’ve figured everything out, our neighbor’s gonna build us a wheelchair ramp for cheap, and my dad miiiiiiiiight be buying a new car as we speak 🤞 (my mom just can’t get into the truck anymore, and she hasn’t wanted to drive her two seater for a while now, so we’re trading it for something practical). Things are finally going fairly well, all things considered ❤️
#she speaks#after the absolute hell we’ve been in all October I think we deserve a fucking break#hopefully this post doesn’t jinx the car lol#we’re keeping the truck obv cuz like we got livestock#but the lil beamer has got to go unfortunately#sad it’s a fun lil car#but it hasn’t been getting the love it deserves and it’s time for something more suited to our needs as a family#kinda exciting really I hope we get it#we all fucking hate spending money so both my parents have been waffling on it for a couple of days#but like I told them mama you got a doctor’s appointment next week for your g tube#and then a hospital follow up with our pcp the week after that#and you’re gonna have to see a gi and a nutritionist pretty regularly#and there’s gonna be more surgeon follow ups I’m sure#and eventually we’re gonna need to take you to outpatient pt cuz we can’t have a home health pt forever#cuz insurance only pays for it for like six weeks#so either we’re gonna have to rent a car every time you go to the doctor#or we gotta buy one#and like this isnt going away you’ll have to go to the doctor often#cuz you’re missing like half of your small intestine#so getting a rental all the time is gonna suck#it would be better to have a car you can get in and out of easily just on hand#not to mention eventually you’re gonna wanna get out of this house just for the hell of it#and it’s not like we can wake up one morning and decide hey let’s go on a day trip#and then waste two hours driving back and forth from the nearest enterprise#which is on an extremely busy two lane highway and is FUCKING terrifying to get to lmfao#so with any luck my dad will keep that in mind and not back out at the dealership lol

#we’re being haunted - if you couldn’t tell#there are actually really nice and heartfelt notes in the cards#i designed the fronts afterwards and just went nuts#but i think they’ll be entertained#awkwardly my manager’s is not as goofy#so hopefully she doesn’t feel left out!#i’m getting them donuts tomorrow as well - which’ll be nice#that IS if the donut place is open#we shall see!!

#I’m so going to regret it in the morning#we’re moving my grandma#hopefully I’ll be fully awake by the time the hard part starts#for me anyway#I’m in charge of taking her for a walk about while they move her main set up#since she’s got to be in her wheelchair anyways she might as well see a bit more of the building she’s been living in#hopefully on the assisted living side she’ll see more people even if she still generally refuses to leave her room#for long er than a short walk#and doesn’t want to meet or get to know anyone there#I’m quite confident I know more people than her#i should sleep#I’m definitely being a dimbass by delaying it further

kinda crazy the progress ive made in my life. i see it as astronomical. been thinking about how every friend i’ve ever had has felt differently about my progress, probably that i was moving too slow, and they progressed much more and much faster than i, and decided to leave me in the dirt about it
anyway here’s my cat
#thinking about a couple high school friends that i kept thru college as well#one i tried to get in touch again in the past year but they told me they don’t want to be my friend again and didn’t say why#the other i recently texted over the summer nd i was excited to be in touch with again and said hey i wanna see u when u come to town again#she agreed but i guess it wasn’t sincere bc i heard from my literal last standing friend that she was here over christmas for quite a bit#she never got in touch#sometimes i think that last standing friend doesn’t really want to be around be either but just feels obligated to#where i live now which is where i grew up has nothing left for me#i think plans of moving by fall 2026 are real and i won’t really feel like i’m leaving much behind anymore#i have plans to make career gains until then so hopefully finding a new job in a new place isn’t a bad experience#bf and i are thinking the pacific northwest :) there’s a school out there he would like to go to as well#thank u for reading. i’ve been dwelling the past few days
