A lazy summer day by a stream~

I finally put my illustration degree into good use and made a proper traditional illustration (although still fanart 😅). Sometimes I really wanted to just "undo" some strokes or move some things around haha but man was this relaxing and satisfying to work on, also I am just so proud of the outcome. I haven't done a proper traditional illustration on this scale since my thesis so it's been a few years.

I took these photos with a phone outside to try and really capture the colors and details.

👔 — Tommy shows up at the firehouse in a suit. Buck has feelings about it.

"You got a thing for all men in suits, or am I special?"

Tommy's words end on a hiss as Evan's thumb scrapes over a silk-cotton covered nipple, as the heel of Evan's other hand presses down on the fly of his slacks. He's all for clothed sex but he does need to be at least somewhat presentable for court. Evan seems to be aware of this, foregoing marking up his neck like Tommy knows he wants to in favor of tugging an earlobe between his teeth.

And Tommy is a mere mortal man.

He yanks Evan's hips forward, encouraging him to grind down on Tommy's—you guessed it—suit-clad thigh, causing Evan to gasp and a whine to crawl its way out of his throat.

"Just you," he pants into Tommy's neck, lips dragging wetly against his heated skin, hips rocking against him.

Evan is hard, and that denotes the most pressing problem here. Because Evan 'firehose' Buckley stands at risk of bringing an all too obvious stain to the front of his work trousers, and as arousing as the thought of that is—and they should really have a converstaion about clothing kinks so Evan is aware of Tommy's uniform kink—if they don't cut things short soon Tommy is going to be sporting a wet patch on his leg, and he didn't bring a spare pair of pants. Although he'll think ahead next time.

It should be noted that it takes a herculean effort to force Evan's hips back away from him. Not because Evan resists—much; it was a discovery early on in their physical relationship how much Evan likes to be manhandled, and that he has some sub tendencies—but because if Tommy didn't have a court date to meet there's nothing short of an emergency that could stop him from giving Evan what he wants right now, right here in the file room. Which seems to be getting off simply by grinding down on Tommy's thigh.

Tommy anticipates the displeased sound from Evan, but not quite the desperation in it, as Tommy eases him back enough to dislodge his hand from Tommy's crotch. "Poor timing, baby."

A pout on a grown man juxtapose with an obscene bulge in his trousers and a healthy arousal-fuelled flush high on his cheeks perhaps shouldn't be adorable, but it is.

Tommy takes Evan's hands in his and slowly pulls him closer.

Yknow, I feel like Dick not fighting back against the mistreatment of him during the Spyral arc (perpetrated by the batfamily) isn't super surprising from a trauma lens, at least not to me.

I've seen people tend to argue that Dick should've and would've fought back, and I'm definitely not arguing otherwise- but why DIDN'T he fight back??

Personally, to me, his behavior strikes me as fawning. He's not arguing against the shitty things the batfamily does to him or say about him, if anything he's agreeing with them. I could probably really look back over how he acts in B&R: Eternal, but from what I remember, he feels very people pleasing.

And imo this isn't super surprising? Especially if what happened in Nightwing #30 is still fresh in his mind, not to mention Spyral breaking him down and the others lashing out at him, physically and verbally. These things are very traumatizing, and would've changed him most likely. His trauma response being to fawn here makes sense; he Needs the others to work with him, and fighting them on something they won't budge on will only get him hurt. Not only that, but physical punishment seems to be a very real consequence at this time, and Dick is likely in survival mode.

If fawning means he can get his job done and not be physically punished, then it makes the most sense for him to go that route, as sad as it is. His trauma response moving from fight(?) to fawn would be a really interesting thing to explore. After all, Dick said things wouldn't be the same, but we don't know WHAT would change, or if it would even be for the better (since people seem to interpret that to mean 'I'm leaving after this' or similar, which is fair tbh but that statement can mean a multitude of things).

Overall, regardless of how in character it is, I think Dick turning to fawning makes sense in this situation. Being beaten by your father and then repeatedly physically and verbally assaulted by the rest of your family is deeply traumatizing, not to mention everything that is Spyral. If Dick can minimize the damage to himself as much as possible and finish the mission, then it makes sense for him to fawn.
