How Regular Kitchen Exhaust Hood Maintenance Minimizes Fire Hazards
Maintaining a safe commercial kitchen requires diligent attention to its ventilation systems, particularly the kitchen exhaust hood. Consistent kitchen exhaust hood maintenance is essential for reducing fire risks and ensuring a safe cooking environment. By keeping the exhaust system clean, you can effectively prevent grease buildup, a common cause of kitchen fires. Let’s explore how regular maintenance helps minimize these risks and keeps your kitchen secure.
The Importance of Kitchen Exhaust Hood Maintenance for Fire Safety
The kitchen exhaust hood is designed to extract smoke, steam, and grease-laden air from the kitchen, helping maintain good air quality. However, if it isn’t cleaned regularly, grease can build up in the hood and ductwork, becoming a significant fire hazard. Without proper kitchen exhaust hood maintenance, this buildup can ignite due to high heat or sparks, leading to dangerous fires. Regular cleaning ensures that grease doesn’t accumulate, keeping your kitchen safer and compliant with safety codes.
Benefits of Regular Kitchen Exhaust Hood Maintenance
Beyond reducing fire risks, maintaining your kitchen exhaust hood offers several other benefits that enhance both safety and efficiency:
Reduces Grease Accumulation: Consistent maintenance removes grease deposits from the hood, ducts, and filters, lowering the potential for grease fires.
Improves Ventilation: A well-maintained exhaust hood system ensures better airflow, effectively removing smoke and heat. This creates a safer, more comfortable environment for kitchen staff.
Extends Equipment Lifespan: Routine kitchen exhaust hood maintenance keeps critical components like the fan and motor in good working order, prolonging the system’s life and reducing repair costs.
Ensures Compliance with Safety Standards: Many local fire and building codes require regular exhaust hood maintenance. Staying on top of maintenance helps your kitchen pass inspections and avoid penalties.
Signs That Your Exhaust Hood Needs Maintenance
Knowing when it’s time for kitchen exhaust hood maintenance helps prevent small issues from becoming major problems. Look out for these common indicators that maintenance is overdue:
Visible Grease Drips: Grease dripping from the edges of the hood is a clear sign that it’s time for a deep clean.
Reduced Airflow: If the exhaust system no longer effectively clears smoke, it could mean that grease buildup is blocking the ducts and restricting airflow.
Lingering Odors: Persistent smells in the kitchen may indicate that the exhaust system is not properly removing fumes, signaling that a more thorough cleaning is needed.
How to Maintain Your Kitchen Exhaust Hood
Proper kitchen exhaust hood maintenance involves regular cleaning combined with professional inspections. Here’s how to keep your system in optimal shape:
1. Clean Filters Frequently
Remove and wash the filters every few weeks to prevent grease buildup. Using warm, soapy water helps keep airflow strong and ensures the system functions efficiently.
2. Schedule Professional Cleanings
Hiring professionals for deep cleanings every three to six months is essential to ensure that ducts and hidden areas are free of grease. This is particularly important for high-volume kitchens where grease can accumulate rapidly.
Prioritize Regular Maintenance for a Safer Kitchen
Regular kitchen exhaust hood maintenance is key to reducing fire hazards and maintaining a safe commercial kitchen. By keeping your exhaust system clean, you prevent grease buildup, improve air quality, and extend the lifespan of your equipment. Making maintenance a priority protects your kitchen and offers peace of mind for you, your staff, and your customers.

The Impact of Regular Maintenance Schedules on Extending Exhaust Hood System Lifespan
Keeping a kitchen ventilation system in top condition requires consistent kitchen exhaust hood maintenance. Adhering to a proper maintenance schedule not only improves efficiency but also significantly extends the lifespan of the system. In this article, we’ll explain how following a regular maintenance routine can lead to a longer-lasting exhaust hood system, preventing costly repairs and maintaining safety.
The Role of Maintenance in Extending Exhaust Hood Lifespan
Your kitchen exhaust hood plays a crucial role in removing grease, smoke, and fumes from the kitchen. Over time, grease and debris accumulate in the hood, filters, and ductwork, reducing airflow and efficiency. Without regular kitchen exhaust hood maintenance, this buildup can lead to system damage, breakdowns, or even fire hazards.
Scheduling routine cleanings and inspections ensures that all components—filters, fans, and ducts—function properly, reducing strain on the system and helping to extend its overall lifespan.
Key Benefits of a Regular Maintenance Schedule
Following a consistent kitchen exhaust hood maintenance schedule offers several benefits:
Increased Efficiency: Regular cleaning prevents grease and debris from blocking airflow, allowing the system to work more efficiently and reduce energy consumption.
Cost Savings: Routine inspections catch minor issues early, helping to avoid expensive repairs or full replacements.
Fire Hazard Prevention: Regular maintenance reduces grease buildup, minimizing the risk of kitchen fires, especially in commercial kitchens.
Extended Equipment Lifespan: By keeping key components clean and functional, you can significantly increase the longevity of the exhaust hood system.
Components That Require Regular Maintenance
Key components in the kitchen exhaust system require frequent attention to ensure they stay in good working condition:
Filters: These trap grease and particles, becoming clogged over time. Regular cleaning or replacement is essential to maintain proper airflow.
Fans: The exhaust fan circulates air and removes contaminants. Regular cleaning of the fan and motor helps avoid blockages and mechanical wear.
Ductwork: Grease buildup in the ducts can restrict airflow and increase fire risk. Cleaning the ductwork regularly helps prevent these issues.
Establishing an Effective Maintenance Schedule
The frequency of kitchen exhaust hood maintenance depends on kitchen usage. Busy commercial kitchens should have inspections and cleanings every three to six months. Smaller kitchens or residential setups may only need maintenance annually. A consistent schedule reduces wear and tear on the system and ensures smooth operation over time.
Conclusion
Regular kitchen exhaust hood maintenance is vital for extending the life of your ventilation system. Following a proper maintenance schedule improves efficiency, reduces repair costs, and ensures the system operates safely and effectively. By committing to regular maintenance, you can enjoy a longer-lasting exhaust hood system that runs smoothly for years to come.

Hot Ghouls in Your Area
Chapter 1
“A cult?” Jason blew out a bubble and enjoyed the disgusted face that Bruce made.
“Yes.” His voice was tight. Jason could tell that he wanted to turn back to the Batcomputer. “They’re operating in Park Row-”
“Crime Alley.”
Batman sighed and accepted the correction. “I would like to propose a joint operation.” He sounded so tired and not very optimistic.
Jason eyed up his on-again-off-again Father figure and popped his gum, thinking it over. Bruce clearly expected him to say no, fuck off, and take the information himself.
He could. There was nothing wrong with that.
“Sure, old man.” He clapped Bruce on the shoulder and finished screwing together the tool he’d brought in for maintenance. He’d had to fabricate a new part and the Red Hood didn’t exactly have the equipment for that in his two room apartment. “Thursday night alright?”
“They’ve a planned meeting on Wednesday, actually,” Bruce said, frowning slightly at him but looking soft around the eyes with confused hope. “Would that be possible? They seem to gather mid-week.”
Jason let out a sigh. “I can make it work. Ta, old man.” He made sure to toss off an especially insouciant salute as he sauntered away. Sure, he was willing to put a little effort into maintaining their relationship, but he couldn’t be too compliant. If you gave Bruce an hour of your time, he wrote you down on the schedule for an hour every day until one of you fuckin’ died in a warehouse explosion. Something like that.
He wasn’t that trusting, though. Jason took the information that Bruce emailed him and did his own legwork. He wasn’t stubborn enough to bother redoing digital work that Bruce had done or gotten from Babs. That would be a waste of his time, and he valued his time. But he scoped out the cult’s meeting place.
Of all the undignified things, it was a rented room in the community center. Jason found himself sheepishly breaking into the office to check on the reservation and poking around the room itself.
There was nothing special about it. It was a shitty room with shitty paneled walls and cheap, well-trodden grey carpet. It boasted a few too many tables, arranged in a U shape, and a whiteboard pushed up against the wall that hadn’t been cleaned off well enough to erase what he was pretty sure was a reference to their lord and savior, destroyed of worlds.
So. That was a point for Bruce’s cult thing.
He hadn’t really doubted it, if he was honest, given that this had originated in a tip from Zatanna. She had told him as a courtesy that some creep had moved their base of recruiting and operations into Gotham.
Apparently, recruitment was going pretty well. The room could seat like, twenty? Jason counted chairs and left.
He came back on Wednesday at 8pm with the Batman and an attempt at a good attitude. He probably wasn’t going to need any of the weapons on his person. They were going to check in so that this guy knew they had an eye on him and that he would be suspect number one if there was any hint of people or cats being sacrificed.
Bruce fucked off to peer in the windows, like the giant caped creep he was. Jason took the front door, nodded congenially at the old man in the office, and knocked at the room the cultists had reserved.
He could hear Bruce internally curse through the comm. It was silent, of course, but the quality of the silence changed. “Knock knock,” he called, since a literal knock hadn’t done it. He opened the door without waiting. “Just checking in, heard you’re new to town and that you tried to feed Zatanna’s shitty little cousin to the god of Death?”
The room stared at him. A whiteboard marker squeaked to a stop. He idly followed the sound to the board. A …. Huh. that looked like some kind of mystical bullshit.
“You’ve been touched by death,” said the fraud himself, a man in his fifties with a wildly pretentious robe that was wrinkled from the paper bag he’d clearly used to carry it in. He outstretched the hand that didn’t have a blue whiteboard marker in it. “You would be a perfect sacrifice to our Lord.”
“So will it be,” said about half the people there, at the same time a young woman said, “No shit?” in an impressed tone.
Jason rolled his eyes through the helmet, unintimidated by the room of weirdos standing up. The kind of people who gathered at a community center on a Wednesday night were not going to summon the God of Death. Light glinted off the window where Batman was clearly weighing the possibility of breaking glass and swinging in. Jason silently waved him off with a headshake. They weren’t to the point of property damage yet. He took a couple of steps into the room with deliberate swagger. “What a lucky guess,” he drawled. “The Red Hood has had brushes with death? No one but a legitimate prophet could possibly make such a statement.”
“I’m not a prophet,” said the man, and turned back to his white board. “I’m a devote.” He rubbed out a line with the meat of his hand and then hurriedly wrote in ‘The Red Hood’ in a tilted cursive. “The sacrifice!” he shouted, throwing his arms wide and accidentally making a big blue line through his evil little sigil or whatever it was. The elderly lady to Jason’s right opened up her bag, thrust her hand in, and came up with a fistful of -
“Salt?” Jason asked, confused and unimpressed as the silly twit threw her handful of salt at him. “Thanks, I’m better seasoned now,” he snarked. He pulled out a gun easily. “Alright, let’s get serious. I-”
The whiteboard was glowing. The blue letters were glowing green.
“What the fuck?” Jason said. The windows exploded with broken glass as Batman decided now was the time to make his entrance. He barely got to see it before something hooked unpleasantly on his body and soul and twisted it sideways.
The world was green now. Holy shit. Jason spun a circle on uneven ground and gaped. “...Egg on my face,” he said. “I’ve been sacrificed. Consider me embarrassed.” A quick check showed that his comm was useless. It was giving off a steady little eeee of static that kinda sounded like screams. Whimsical. Jason turned it off.
He wasn’t panicking yet. The void wasn’t that freaky. It was weird, sure, but there weren’t any demons or enemies. He flicked the safety off his favorite gun just in case and frowned into the darkness.
It was like he was standing under a spotlight with no light source. There was ambient lighting in all directions, but the world faded into darkness only a few dozen feet away. He took some experimental steps to determine that, yeah, the field of visibility traveled with him.
Well. Time to get moving. Jason walked. There was nothing for the first - hour, he was gonna call it an hour. He got antsy and started jogging. The green stretched on, placid and infinite in a way that was really starting to piss him off. “Hey!” Jason barked into the void. “Anyone there?”
There was an answering electronic whirr. He stopped in his tracks. Jason looked in every direction, including up, and only saw the fucking thing when it was basically on top of him.
The vehicle was probably most equivalent to a spaceship, he decided, as what was probably a 3-man craft at most parked. The top clicked. It opened from the top and someone bounded out. “Hey!” came an annoyed male voice. “What’s the deal, bud?” The stranger landed in front of Jason with crossed arms and a pissy expression. His white hair floated above his head as if he was the little fucking mermaid in the ocean.
Jason scowled, the back of his mind cataloging the other guy’s outfit as pristine and undamaged and his musculature as athletic. “What’s it to you?” he asked, defensive. He didn’t know if it was safe to give information to this guy. “I might be a little lost,” Jason conceded.
“A little lost,” the guy repeated, and then- okay, he flew in a weird little flippy circle, scowling all the while as Jason gaped. “A little lost.” He scoffed. Then he let out a sigh that made his whole body look smaller. He uncrossed his arms and ran a hand through his hair. “This is a weird question,” he said, making it sound more defensive than apologetic. “Did you uh.” He scowled, like the words were distasteful. “Look,” he tried again. “Are you delulu, or did you get caught up as the sacrificial bride? I told Frank to knock that shit off.”
Sacrificial bride. Jason felt his brain go offline for a moment. Say what now.
“Helloooo,” the… was this rando a god of death? He was impatient. He flew way up into Jason’s personal space and snapped his fingers. “Someone just smashed metal trash bins together at my grave to get my attention, basically. No, it’s more like one of those spam pop ups that says there’s hot girls in your area?” He made a gesture at Jason. “Only it’s loud. It’s ringing in my ears, and I had to come track you down. Do you think this is funny?”
“...Sacrificial bride?” Jason finally managed to croak out.
Weirdly, this made the other guy relax immediately. “Just found out, huh,” he said, sounding much more sympathetic. “Yeah, okay, we need to sort out a spiritual divorce immediately. And then you can go home and there will be no more hot girls in my area and I can get back to my ess- my work.”
Jason took a few moments of grief and confusion to accept his apparent status. “We’re married?” he said weakly.
The white haired man looked a little sheepish. “Marriage is probably not quite accurate,” he said, and Jason felt a little bit of relief before the guy continued, “It’s more like you’re my concubine?” He sounded mortified by this. “I didn’t want this!”
“No, no,” Jason said, meaning both that he believed it and that he needed this conversation to change directions immediately. “I- who are you?” He gestured at his– what the fuck was the other side of a concubine relationship? King was the associated word that came up, but that…
“I’m nobody, really,” said the white haired man weakly. “But I may technically be King of ghosts or whatever. The Infinite Realms.” He scratched at his face. “So… yeah.”
They stood in utterly mortified silence for a long moment before he seemed to remember something. “You can call me Danny,” he offered.
“...Call me Jason,” he said.
“Thanks, Jason,” Danny said genially. “So, uh, this is a mess, right?” He started floating away backwards. “I’m going to hunt down my mentor and advisor and get some uh- advice, I guess. Do you wanna come with? Or should I come back and check in once I’ve heard from him?”
Jason weighed up his situation, the conventional wisdom about getting in vehicles with strange men, and wondered how useless his gun was going to be in this situation. Danny had never reacted to it being pointed at him, so his guess was ‘utterly unhelpful’. He put it away. “I’d like a ride, thanks,” he said dryly.
They made some stilted conversation on the ride. Danny was clearly trying to hold back and give him no identifying information. That was fascinating, because it implied that there was something Jason could do from the human world to track Danny down. It was also reassuring because there was no reason to withhold information if he’d planned to keep Jason prisoner, so, ya know, that was a good sign.
Anyway, Jason got a lot of information from Danny.
Danny was a terrible liar and he misspoke like, all the time. Jason was pretty sure he was in the ghost equivalent of school, like college or something. He talked like someone in Jason’s age group would, so he’d probably died very recently. Maybe he had been a college student when he’d died and he just hadn’t given up on that degree yet, honestly. Jason managed to drag the conversation around to education. He got nowhere with asking about literature but he hit the jackpot with science. Danny was still babbling about a telescope when he landed the …ship outside of a wonky clocktower.
Jason took off his safety belt and froze in his tracks when Danny absently stopped him with a cool hand. Jason looked down at that hand.
“You had better stay here,” Danny said. He shook his head slightly. “Clocky doesn’t like everyone.”
He melted into the chair as if he had never wanted to get up. “Alright,” Jason said.
Danny was out of the spaceship by the time that Jason realized something was very wrong with that interaction.
He hadn’t decided to sit down. He hadn’t wanted to sit back down. Did- did he actually think it was reasonable to stay behind, or would he have argued and gone in normally?
‘...I think Danny did something.’ Suspicion swirled in his gut. Jason tried to take the safety belt off and stand up. He couldn’t. It was like his muscles wouldn’t respond to it.
Well, that was pretty fuckin’ evil. His pulse picked up in his throat. It… It was some kind of compulsion? He had to do what Danny told him to do? That was really fucked up. He was starting to feel really unsafe now. He wished he’d hung back with Bruce. He wanted someone to bring him home. And weirdly, he felt betrayed. He hardly trusted Danny, didn’t know the fucker well enough to, but he hadn’t gotten that impression off the guy–
‘It wasn’t him,’ Jason realized. ‘It was the binding ritual. Danny said it wasn’t like a marriage, it’s not equal. That’s why I did what Danny wanted me to do.’
Well. Well then. If Danny didn’t know that Jason had to follow his orders, Jason was most fucking certainly not going to spell it out for him. It was a grim calculation to make, but it seemed the safest. As it was, Danny seemed to want to get rid of him as fast as possible.
So that was it. He’d play along and get Danny to spit him back out into Gotham, a young hot divorcé free on the streets.

🦇Tips for Dressing Goth on Low-Spoons Days🦇
Note: I am low-support needs disabled, and what works for me might not work for you. I am not a doctor and cannot offer medical advice!
Black hair, baby. I dye my roots with $1.25 men's beard dye from the 'tree now, so that's pretty cost-effective, and you don't have to do anything for your hair to look 'goth'. I wouldn't recommend a mohawk because for it to look maximum cool, you have to style it, and that can take a while. My haircut now is shaved on the sides with short bangs and it looks goth even if I don't style it. It requires minimum maintenance, too.
Pre-layered accessories. Many necklaces- especially ones marketed for 80s costumes- are pre-layered and you only have to work with one clasp. Maximum style for minimum effort. You can find layered necklaces on Amazon, at Halloween stores, and I've even seen them in the costume section of thrift stores. There are also bangle stacks that function the same way.
Strega Fashion and Lagenlook- this might work for wheelchair users, depending on how long your flowy elements are. Lots of tunics and skirts and sweaters and fancy hooded tops, etc. Think of a dark, witchy vibe. Very comfortable and can be easy to style with clothes-you-find-at-Wal-Mart, and relatively cheap.
Nails. I LOVE having long dark red nails for maximum 'spoiled vampire prince' vibes, but sometimes having acrylics or press-ons can be too expensive, impractical, or maybe too femme for you. Whatever the case, I have more recommendations than your standard black nail polish- there's silver nail polish that makes your nails look mirror-like, red nail polish of all shades, purples, etc. For a more masculine, deathrock look you could experiment with dark, zombie-esque greens, or even neon shades to stand out against your darker clothing. Painting my nails can be hard for me due to my coordination issues, so I keep Q-tips nearby and soak them in acetone to clean up the edges.
Eyeliner- they sell jumbo eyeliner sticks and you can basically roll that about your eyes, smudge with your finger, and call it done in about one minute. I have yet to find a sharpener to go with mine, which is unfortunate, but these would seemingly be the way to go when you don't have the spoons to pull out the white base and all that.
Shave your eyebrows. Not necessarily for everybody, but it gives a more alien or 'more human than human' vibe to your look without makeup and makes me look infinitely more goth even in jeans and a t-shirt. YMMV.
Piercings, if you want them, can get them, won't affect your job, etc.- these always look pretty alternative especially when combined with each other. These combined with the black hair will do the job for you, in my opinion. I currently only have my ears double pierced but plan on getting my septum done soon.

Made myself some references for how I wanna draw these guys! [Please reblog, don't repost!]
Some design notes I gave myself:
Blues is more visibly robotic, with visible seams and joints. His armor is not removable, it's just his actual body. Roll's dress has a lil hood she can put up. Rock and Roll were built from the same base design, so they have identical body types. Quint's armor can be removed, but it's coded into him not to, so it's pretty hard for him to switch out. Blues' color scheme is somewhat grayer than the others, while Quint's leans on the paler side.
AHA YOU FOOL YOU FELL FOR MY TRAP. BEHOLD MY OC!!!! (co-owned with my good pal Axolotl Parade#8795!!)
Their name is Landscaper and they were the result of Axo and I joking about giving Roll a rivalry just as intense as Bass and Rock's. Landscaper was made by Dr Light to assist Roll as her duties grew, specifically to handle everything to do with the property's outdoors. They take care of the lawn, curate the flower and plant displays, keep a small colony of bees, and handle any outdoor activities. Unfortunately, Landscaper and Roll have developed a bitter rivalry over who's better at cleaning and maintenance. The two are constantly heckling each other and attempting to one-up one another. The only thing scarier than how intense they get about their competitions is if they team up against a third party.
Landscaper is also pretty good friends with Vesper Woman! They trade tips and visit each others' bees. Being a couple of the younger Robot Masters in their respective families, they gravitated towards one another. Gutsman will also sometimes help them whenever terraforming or new constructs are needed. He'll usually put them on his shoulder so they can direct him (and they like to be tall.) They have a much milder rivalry with Woodman, who keeps trying to convince them to let the lawn grow wilder for the good of the ecosystem, and sometimes stands in front of their lawnmower in protest.
and for sticking around through all that, here's a little height chart for funsies!
#actually I might mess with Quint's fit a bit more I'm still not sure if I'm sold on it#VERY happy with how Blues turned out tho#Megaman#Protoman#Rock Light#Roll Light#Roll megaman#Blues Light#Quint Megaman#Robot Master OC#knowing myself it's only a matter of time before I amass many more OCs rip#for now tho just Landscaper. They're such a little weirdo I love them

Twilight- Youngest Shadow: Chapter Three, Crash It
(Alice X Reader X Jasper)
[two] [three] [four]
Today was the day of my 6th Volleyball game out of 14. It’s a Home game.
Every single game has been attended by Jacob, Quil and Embry. Sometimes Sam and Billy. Bella made it to about two. Clearly needing to do her own thing I understood. If I didn’t understand a sport I wouldn’t want to go either.
She makes me sit with her at lunch still, I got kind of close with Angela. She’s cool. She also comes to games but that’s to take pictures, helping with the yearbook committee.
Bella and I walk out of the house together. I see my bike is gone and remembered I had to give it to Jacob for maintenance. Since he offered I was getting it done for free.
It’s also raining so I’m kind of glad I don’t have to choice to ride it. Sometimes the rain drops hurt like a bitch. I lift my hood up, walking behind Bella as we go down the steps. “Great.” She mutters under her breath.
Charlie pulls in with her truck. “Dad I can drive us to school myself.” As we get closer to the bottomed step she slips and falls on her ass. Tripping due to not watching where I was going I go forward.
“You okay, Bells? [Name]?” Charlie climbs out of the truck, helping Bella up and then the both help me. I ripped a new pair of jeans, hissing in pain from my hands I wipe it on my sweater that’s not so new. Luckily I didn’t bleed at all. “Ice doesn’t help the uncoordinated.” Bella frowns at her own joke.
“Clearly.” I groan.
“That’s why I got you new tires.” Charlie points to the red truck. “The other ones were nearly bald.”
“You got me new tires. No one’s ever don’t that before.” Both Charlie and I look at her confused. “I mean… nothing.”
He glances at me, not getting it but he heads to his cruiser.
“I won’t make it to dinner or the game. I’m heading down to Mason County. A security guard at the Grisham Mill got killed by some kind of animal.” He explains to us.
“An animal?” Bella asks, confused.
“You’re not in Phoenix anymore, honey. They’ve been hunting it for a week with no luck. Thought I’d lend a hand.” He puts it simply. “Be careful.” We say in unison.
“Always am.”
“And thank you for the tires.”
I’d thought by now they wouldn’t be so awkward with each other but I am very wrong. The tension is so thick it couldn’t even be cut with a knife.
Change of pov
Rain was still hitting hard. Eric and Bella walk together into Biology. She brushes off her coat as he talks. “And yeah, prom committee is a chick thing, but I gotta cover it for the paper anyway and they need a guy to help choose the music. So I need your playlist.” Eric explains but before the girl can respond Mike comes up behind her. “Come on, Arizone. Give it up for the rain.” He shakes his wet baseball cap onto Bella’s head.
“Terrific.” She walks away, ignoring them to get to her seat.
She freezes once she notices Edward. She straightens her posture, striding to the shared table confidently. Dropping her books in front of him, ready to address him but instead he looks up at her and speaks.
“Hello.”
She stops, automatically stunned. “I didn’t have a chance to introduce myself last week. My name is Edward Cullen.”
She’s too shocked to respond, she wasn’t expecting him to talk to her. “You’re Bella.” He stares, not questioning.
“I’m… yes.” She finally sits, feeling stupid.
He abruptly moves to the edge of his seat away from her. She’s baffled to say the least, smelling her hair as if she stinks.
“Onion root tip cells! That’s what’s on your slides. Separate and label them into the phases of mitosis. The first partners to get it right win the golden onion!” Mr. Molina holds up a gold spray painted onion but disappointed by the little to no reaction.
“Come on people, tick tock.”
Everyone gets to work. Edward pushes the microscope towards Bella, still keeping a distance.
“Ladies first.” She grabs it defensively and snaps the first slide in, adjusting the lens. “You’ve been gone.”
“Out of town. Personal reasons.” He was curt like her, short with his answers.
“Prophase.” She says, going to remove the slide. “May I look?” She slides the scope to him, he looks into it. “Prophase.”
“Like I said.”
He writes it down on the work sheet. He takes a deep breath, turning to her. “Enjoying the rain?”
“Seriously? You’re asking me about the weather?” She seems offended. “It appears.”
“No, unlike my sister I don’t like the cold, or the wet. Or the grey. Or the parkas. Or the turtlenecks.”
There was a small smile that played on his lips.
He actually seemed interested in what she had to say. He studies her like her sister did to him days ago. But she can’t tell if he despises her or not. “What?”
He shakes his head and turns to the microscope, switching out the slides. She continues to stare at him, appreciating his evident beauty. His cheekbones to his lips.
“Anaphase.” She snaps out of her daze to go back to giving a dry look.
“May I?” She mocks him for before, looking into the lens.
“Anaphase.”
“Like I said.”
They change the slide.
“If you hate the cold and rain, why move to the wettest place in the continental U.S.?” He quizzes her.
“It’s complicated.” Simple answer, but he’s intrigued so he pushes.
“I think I can keep up.” She looks at him quickly then looking away back at the scope. He seems to be paying attention very intently.
“My mother remarried.” Another simple response.
“Very complex. So you don’t like him.” A statement, he doesn’t question himself.
“Phil is fine. Young for her but nice enough.” She tells. “Interphase.”
At the end of school she’s still holding the golden onion. She bumps into Edward on accident. “Why didn’t you stay with your mom and step dad? Or your sister?” He waits patiently for her to say something, studying her like before.
“Alright, Phil’s a minor league baseball player, so he travels a lot. My mother stayed home with me and [Name] but it made her unhappy. And my sister has always been a daddy’s girl. So I decided to spend time with my father too.” She explains everything. “But now you’re unhappy.” He states himself again.
“No I… I just.” She turns away, embarrassed.
Back to You
At the end of the day I stood beside Angela and Jessica. Since our game was today I don’t see a point in going all the way home just to come back to the school.
I watch my sister head for her truck, shivering. Once she got there she looked back, making little eye contact with me and then staring at the Cullens. More specifically, Edward? I think that’s his name if I’m remembering correctly.
Their eyes met then there was a loud screech only getting louder by the second. A van skids out of control, heading right for my older sister.
I felt frozen for a second, running over there immediately. The van comes to a complete stop after spinning out. Like something forcefully stopped it. I didn’t see anything as it had happened so fast. The van had only hit the back of the truck, leaving a dent that was definitely noticeable to the eye.
After milliseconds everyone went berserk, roaring into screams of trying to get help, calling 911.
Mike and Eric yell if she’s okay, I watched Edward who was once at his Volvo now leaving the scene. Wanting to ask him what happened I shake my head, pushing the two boys out of my way. “Bells, Bella?!” I cried out, falling down to her level, feeling the pain in my knees from earlier but ignoring it. I took her into my arms as she was obviously in shock.
I ended up driving her and the boy who crashed into her, Tyler a ride to the hospital.
I told him to shut up on our way there. Even sitting in the room as they got checked up on I sat there glaring at him.
Minutes later, Charlie rushes in. “Bells, are you alright?“
“I’m fine dad, calm down.” She assures gun but it’s not enough. “I’m so sorry Bella. I tried to stop.” Tyler apologizes.
“It’s okay Tyler.” Bella tells him and I scoff. “It sure as hell is not okay.” Charlie says, I nod agreeing. “Dad it’s not his fault.”
“We nearly lost you.”
“But you didn’t.” She says, I pull her into a hug since Dad is glaring at Tyler like I once was. “You can kiss your license goodbye.” He sternly tells the boy and I watch his body falter.
I notice Dr. Cullen approach us and if I didn’t know anything I would’ve thought he was a movie star. I didn’t pay Trenton to what they were talking about. I focused on his face, observing him as he talked. Just like I did with his foster kids. Then I heard Tyler apologizing once again, since I was closest I closed the curtain getting a fist bump from my dad.
“It would’ve been a lot worse if Edward hadn’t knocked me out of the way.” Bella says ignoring dad and I’s antics.
“Edward? Your boy?” Charlie asks only to not get a response.
Dr. Cullen adverts his eyes, I watch Bella press. I’m guessing she knew something that was making him uncomfortable. “It was amazing he got to me so fast. He was nowhere near me.”
The blonde man smiles.
“As long as you’re safe.”
We leave the treatment area. “I just have to sign some paperwork. You better call your mom.” He points to Bella.
“You told her?! She’s probably freaking out!” He just shrugs and walks off.
She pulls her phone out and I laugh, earning an eye roll. Then we both look down the hall, hearing an argument. “Stay here.” She orders as if I was so much younger than her. She gets a little closer to whatever was happening.
Not meaning to but the curiosity getting the best of me I do the same thing.
“This isn’t about you. It’s about all of us.” It was Rosalie. I raise an eyebrow but Dr. Cullen definitely saw Bella, taking Rosalie inside his office.
I sit for a moment, but I see Bella talking to Edward so I just walk the other way, pulling out my phone as I felt it vibrating.
It’s Jacob calling, shit.
I answered it quickly. I forgot all about my Volleyball game that’s in… 35 minutes.
“Hello?” I spoke to,
“Hey, where are you? Are you okay? I heard something about an accident with you and Bella?” He freaks out, i why shush him trying to calm him down.
“Hey, everything is fine. No damage was done. Bella was apart if it but no scratches, just a bump on the head. I’m sorry I should’ve called.” I told him, hugging my self with my open arm.
“Oh, I’m glad you’re both okay, I’m glad shes okay.” He sighs like he had just been holding in a long breath.
“Yeah, yeah. Everything is good. I’m just going to keep watch on Bella for a little. Could you let my coach know what happened. I’m sure she knows but y’know?”
“Totally understand, I will let her know. Call me later tonight?” He sounded hopeful and I smile to myself.
“Of course, I’ll call around 9.” I say
“Can’t wait…”
“Knock it off.”
I was going to ask what he meant by that but I hear the other guys in the background and I laugh.
I hung up, not seeing Bella come up to me, she grabbed my shoulder causing me to jump and almost drop my phone.
“Who was that?”
“Jacob. He asked if we were okay since he went to my game as usual. Seeing I wasn’t there freaked him out.” I take a deep breath through my nose.
“I completely forgot about that. We can still make it.” She says in a hurried tone but I shake my head.
“Coach wouldn’t let me play anyway. There’s no point.” I laugh, putting a hand on her arm.
“I’m sorry.” She frowns.
“No need, you should call mom though.”
She whines to herself, pulling her phone out again.
Charlie walks out and we go outside. I drove the truck home.
Later that night I call Jacob like I told him I would. He tells me about the game since they stayed due to Quil wanting to.
“It would’ve been a better game with you for sure.” He says and I could hear the smile.
“I know, I’m just so amazing.” I brag, playing with my tongue piercing as I hear his laugh.
“Maybe I shouldn’t have boasted your ego.”
“What ego?” I jokingly say.
I look over to my clock, seeing the time and it was already 11:30.
I was surprised Charlie hadn’t come and told me to go to bed.
“Ah, we should go to bed.” I start to say, I heard a small thump from Bella’s room upstairs and I stood up carefully strutting towards the door.
“[Name]?” Jacob calls, I snap out of whatever trance I was in. Not hearing anything else from Bella’s room so I go back to my bed.
“Sorry I got distracted. Goodnight, Jake.” My voice was a little raspy from being tired.
“Goodnight.” He ends up hanging up the phone and I lay back in my bed.
Thinking about everything that happened today.

I have never had a post-coital headache, but I saw the ask and it made me think...
Orgasming using a vibe hurts my clitoris. It doesn't even touch my clit because it uses airwaves or something to vibrate the air around the clit, not sure. And I don't enjoy vibrators that touch the clit because it just doesn't feel like anything pleasurable? I can't explain it but it doesn't feel good or bad just kinda numbs me.
I'll be getting bottom surgery to nullify my crotch someday, so I guess it doesn't matter much, since I can limp along till then. I'll be tucking the clitoris and the nerve bundle under some skin and tissue and hopefully the padding will help offset the pain (and I could finally use those cute giant wand vibrators with the big buzzy ball), but I'm just asking in case you have ever heard of this and are willing to respond on your blog.
For the record, I don't enjoy using my hands on my clit, doesn't feel good and dysphoric and bothers my asexuality (I don't like touching genitals at all and the wetness feels icky). I grew up using the pressure and squeeze method. Basically ball up a blanket, press it to my pubis, and then do a very prolonged, overpowered kegel and there you go (kinda tiring tho). I didn't even know I had a clit growing up, always assumed it was the urethra because it hurt to touch (turns out it's supposed to be wet, thanks homeschooling for the lack of sex ed).
So I use the vibrator but I hate the vibrator. The moments before the orgasm is just so painful. And I have to immediately turn it off because the continued vibration causes even more pain and makes my muscles clench up in response which makes it very difficult to pull the toy away from my body. When using it with my partner I have to "tap out" and she'll pull it away for me.
I low-key believe the multiple orgasms for clit+pussy based anatomy is a myth because how could it possibly feel good to touch there once the orgasm has happened? Sometimes I can't close my legs completely for minutes. That shit is so sensitive and like swollen? Throbbing? Why?!?
I theoretically like orgasms. I like the quiet feeling after them. But getting there sucks, masturbating is unpleasant (apparently normal people enjoy the whole process, I'm just there for the afterglow), esp when it's a maintenance orgasm and I'm not horny or physically aroused (sometimes I just think that I need to orgasm without really wanting to if that makes sense, weird ace shit).
This ask is longer than I hoped it would be, but there's lots of important context and I honestly don't know why my body is like this, Google is useless (esp nowadays).
Okay there’s a ton to touch on here, but first: vibes are not one size fits all. Everyone’s body’s are different and motors come in different powers and pulses. The “cute” massage wand types are actually some of my least favorite because they just go cataclysmic in power which is way too much for 90% of clits. They just have good marketing.
If possible, you can look for a gentler vibe. Jimmy Jane Form 2 has a pulse setting that’s reallyyyyy light, and puts vibrations on either side of the clit instead of directly on it. But there’s a lot of shapes and sizes that could be gentler than what you’re using now.
If you’re unsure check out a store and try the vibe on the tip of your nose. This is pretty close to how sensitive your clit is and can give you a frame of reference for how much power you actually want. Generally lower rumbles are more expensive but also more pleasant so that’s a cost/benefit you can run.
The other aspect of this is that clitoral tissue is actually massive. There’s a lot of stuff going on under the hood, so to speak.
Clitoral nerves get everywhere! That’s the whole thing with G-spots- you’re still hypothetically applying pressure to nerve endings associated with the clit. I’ve heard anecdotally that they can end up in the anus too but I couldn’t find a source to verify that.
The takeaway from how sprawling all those nerves are is that there’s probably places you might like sensation better that directly on the clit. Most clit havers in my experience found that pretty overwhelming, myself included.
If your main business with your junk has been businesslike and unpleasant to touch it makes sense not messing with it much. If your partner is a person you trust to explore with you can just have them feel around and caress and see if other areas feel stimulating without being as overwhelming.
As for getting so throbby and uncomfortable afterward, and multiple orgasms: In my experience and anecdotally this depends how you get there. When you come fast and hard your body reacts differently than when you edge into an orgasm. You can try changing up your routine to see if this makes a difference for you.
Some people can never do multiple orgasms, it’s rare for me but does happen on occasion, so it’s worth noting that smut has a lot to answer for in terms of how normal they make that. If you can’t get off more than once it is what it is. It’s not a myth but it’s not everyone’s reality.
I hope this was helpful, good luck and as you say, eventually after surgery this will get easier for you!

she’s a good girl.
MINORS DNI 18+ ᶻ 𝗓 𐰁 .ᐟ WARNINGS: daddy kink use of the word “dad” | no foreplay | sexual content | fem reader.
“Can you pass me that ratchet, sweets?” KEVIN LEVIN asks, pointing vaguely in the direction of his tool box which is haphazardly disarrayed in a mess on the floor. You set your drink down—the one he bought you as penance so you’d stay out of his way while he worked—and creep over, carefully toeing over his propped up legs. If he pulled out from under the car now he’d see up your skirt.
“Sure thing, Dad.” you respond without thinking anything of it, bending over to reach into the toolkit. A loud bang makes you jump out of your skin, a full body prickle travels up your spine as he loudly curses. He kicks out, his foot connecting with the box to send it sliding, careening the garage door with a clatter. You watch it with wide, curious eyes. Before you get a chance to chase it, Kevin rolls out from under the car with a scowl on his severe expression and clutching his hand.
“What’d you just—“ he begins in an angry seethe, pained from whatever accident was inflicted on his greased hand. However, that glare in his face melts, taken aback by the view as you sheepishly stand over him like a deer-in-headlights. A light pink dusts the crest of his cheeks as he closes his mouth promptly, swallowing hard at the sight of your backside on display for him. Suddenly, he doesn’t care so much about the throb in his hand, and he certainly forgets your odd nickname, the outline of your cunt in your little panties at the forefront of his mind.
Another thing this car is good for—besides constantly breaking down without his gentle and loving maintenance—is how a pretty body looks on the hood. It takes no time at all before he’s thrown you on it, cooping you up there like a pin-up girl while he hastily unbuckles his pants. The mere sound of it dampens you, and you watch with bated breath and eager interest.
“You ready for me, baby? Didn’t wash my hands.” He glances at you, manhandling you into a closer position while the head of his cock nudges at the wet fabric over your pussy.
“Mm-hm, Dad, I am.” you reply without hesitation, clinging onto his arm as he keeps you up on the hood, your legs folded up on either side of you.
In the middle of those filthy fingers deftly pulling your panties to the side, his gaze meets yours deliberately with a couple spacey blinks. He shrugs it off. “You call me the weirdest shit.” Yanking the elastic aside, he strokes at your folds with his tip, and you whimper at the glimpse of pleasure. Getting fucked on his car is usually pretty rough, but nothing compared to this. Nothing compared to how he pins you down and fucks your brains out, big hands shoved under your backside to bring you into his harsh pace. All the while he’s breathlessly coaxing you in your ear, “What’d you call me again? Say that shit again… Wanna hear it… Gets you so fucking wet, you’re a fuckin’ freak, you know that?”

miss you when i see the sun (CWFKB #3)
Fill for "Sticky Kiss" for @codywanfirstkissbingo! Tatooine Husbands
The vaporater groans through another automated maintenance cycle, a flash of lights along the side flickering orange and then, regrettably, red. Cody twists the wrench round in his palm, the crack in the wooden handle cutting into his skin before he adjusts it, and crouches back down on his haunches. Sweat prickles along the nape of his neck, soaking into the hood he’s drawn up over his head as the suns crept higher in the sky, and there’s a scratch in his throat that’s been demanding to be addressed for nearly as long. He swallows, a click echoing in the confines of his thoughts like a blaster hitting empty, fired again and again and again, and—
Vaporater. The vaporater is broken. He is fixing it. Obi-Wan is in town and will be back soon.
Cody isn’t at war, not anymore.
He tugs the panel open once more, revealing a heavy network of gears, some slowly rotating in place but the majority are still, shuddering in their casing. A thin stream of smoke pools forth from one of the lower sections, the scent thick despite appearances and Cody coughs, smacking his hand against the control panel to turn the vaporater off. On the back of his tongue, the scent lingers, purely mechanical in nature, and it is that thought that bothers Cody more than having to be out here, a speck in a desert that still remembers it used to be an ocean and has been cultivating a resentment for an eternity. It had been a lifetime since Cody had first gone into combat, but he remembers the way a droid twitched when it fell, a splutter of sparks like a final gasp falling from the hole Cody had just shot into it. It smelt the same.
Cody shoves the wrench against the sticking gear, rising up onto his knees to press his body weight against the thin lever, already a little broken, a little make-do and he should be more careful with it but his thoughts tangle up in the heavy footsteps of an enemy that’s been decommissioned for decades, and he pushes. The gear gives way, the crack in the handle widens, and Cody hits the control switch once more. The lights flicker orange then green.
“Cody!”
Cody turns, a twinge of pain in his back, an answering echo in his knee, and shades his eyes. Obi-Wan raises his hand in greeting, lopsided due to the heavy pack balanced on his hip. He’s thrown his cloak back and his hair catches the sunlight, turning the silver brushed through his temples a deep golden hue. His grin is wide, unrestrained and beautiful, Cody’s heart stuttering to an abrupt halt and restarting when Obi-Wan reaches him, leaning down to wrap his free arm around Cody’s shoulders in a tight embrace. His skin is flushed and his breath is strained but he hums as Cody reaches up to squeeze Obi-Wan’s hand with his own.
“Did you fix it?” Obi-Wan shifts his pack with a grunt, tipping his head to one side — closer to Cody, some strands of his hair falling free to brush against Cody’s forehead and he’s surrounded, comforted right down to his bones, worn thin as they are.
Cody nods, flicking the panel closed and dropping the wrench back into the toolbox. The crack in the handle gleams bright in the sunlight, a dark line bitten into his palm and he curls his hand into a fist. “I think so. Temporarily at least.”
“Thank you.” Obi-Wan stands uneasily, bracing himself against Cody’s shoulder as he halts part of the way. His lip curls, his eyes wide and focused on nothing except the pain lancing up and down his spine. The moment passes, it always does, and Obi-Wan relaxes into his stance. There’s a ghost of his saber at his hip and his hand lingers before he adjusts the pack once more. “Shall we go inside? I have something for you.”
“You didn’t need to,” Cody says reflexively, every reaction braided into his genes rewired to the life he has found himself in, the space he had carved out a section of his skull and defected from his purpose to find. There’s something warm in his chest despite his denial, a ember he has carried and nursed ever since he’d turned on his heel in the sterile stretch of a command deck and bumped into the man who would be his General, his Jedi, his Obi-Wan.
He’d never said anything, but, as Obi-Wan holds his hand out for Cody to take, perfectly in step with each other, even now, both older than they had ever thought possible, he doesn’t think he needs to. Obi-Wan knows, they both know. All that remains is the first step.
“I wanted to,” Obi-Wan says. His hand lingers in Cody’s, the pads of his fingers rough and the calluses across the stretch of his palm catching on the topography of Cody’s skin, and he pulls away as they step across the threshold into their home.
Cody sighs, peeling the sodden fabric from his head and scrubbing a hand over his head to try and knock some of the sand free as he lingers in the entryway. The hut is cool, dappled in shadow as Obi-Wan draws the slats back on the small window overlooking the huddled kitchen and shoulders his pack onto the table. The wood groans beneath the weight and Cody moves over, snapping the fastenings open.
“There.” Obi-Wan points to the package resting on top of everything else. It’s small and lovingly wrapped in a cloth patterned with geometric lines crossing over each other. “I hope it isn’t squashed, I tried so hard to make sure it was safe.”
Cody nods, his mouth dry, his mind empty except for a distant ringing as he picks up the package. There’s a heft to it despite the small size and his fingers slip as he begins to pick at the knot, drawing the fabric free. Beyond him, Obi-Wan begins to unpack the bag, the gentle rustling of packages filling the quiet sanctuary of their home. The fabric falls free and Cody blinks up at Obi-Wan.
“Fruit?”
Obi-Wan nods, rocking back onto his heels, his hands clasped in front of him. His thumb worries over the knuckle of his opposite hand and he chews on the inside of his cheek before he answers. “Do you like it?”
Cody blinks past a haze of tears — he’s a soldier, he’s cut a chip out of his brain without anything in his chest except rage, and he’s mourned more losses than he could remember even with enhancements, but a fruit from Kamino in the middle of a desert is enough to break him completely — and nods, lowering his head. He raises the fruit to his mouth and bites down. Juice floods his mouth, escaping down his cheeks and onto the fabric and he chases after it, tasting a home he never thought he would know again.
Sniffing, he glances up at Obi-Wan, carefully turned away at the sink, busying himself with the already clean dishware. “Thank you.” He chews, swallows, and presses his thumb to the edge of the bitten section, watching the flesh dimple beneath his touch, a rush of dark liquid flooding his nails. “Have you ever had this before?”
“I haven’t.” Obi-Wan places the cup he had been holding back onto the counter.
“Come here. Try some.”
“Cody—”
“Please.” Cody holds out his hands, the fruit cupped between his palms and it is the same shade of blue as Obi-Wan’s eyes, just as beautiful as he was the first day Cody met him. Obi-Wan chews his way around a chuckle and walks over. He cups his hands beneath Cody’s and raises the fruit to his mouth, taking a small bite. It sounds wet and Obi-Wan raises his head, his mouth stained dark, and Cody leans forward to kiss him. Obi-Wan sighs, tipping his head to deepen the kiss, and it’s sticky with juice, tasting sweet and Cody should have done this so much sooner.

Aligning Ventilation Needs and Compliance for Kitchen Exhaust Hood Installation
Achieving a successful kitchen exhaust hood installation in a commercial kitchen requires more than just choosing the right equipment. It involves balancing ventilation needs with compliance standards. Properly installed exhaust hoods improve air quality and ensure safety, but aligning your system with local codes is essential to avoid potential issues. Here’s how to plan your installation to meet both ventilation requirements and regulatory compliance.
The Importance of Balancing Ventilation and Compliance
A well-planned kitchen exhaust hood installation helps maintain a safe kitchen environment by removing smoke, grease, and heat. Adhering to local building codes ensures that your system operates legally and efficiently. Aligning these aspects protects your staff, reduces fire risks, and helps your kitchen pass necessary inspections.
Key Considerations for Ventilation and Compliance
To ensure that your exhaust hood installation meets both ventilation needs and regulatory standards, consider these factors:
CFM Ratings and Hood Size: Proper airflow is crucial for effective ventilation. Determining the required cubic feet per minute (CFM) based on your cooking equipment and kitchen size ensures that your exhaust hood system can efficiently remove heat, smoke, and odors. High-heat appliances like fryers and grills need a higher CFM rating for optimal performance.
Placement and Clearance: Local regulations often dictate minimum clearance distances between the exhaust hood and walls or ceilings. Proper placement allows the hood to capture fumes effectively while adhering to safety codes. Positioning the kitchen exhaust hood directly above the cooking area is ideal for optimal capture of smoke and grease.
Ductwork Design and Fire Resistance: The design of your ductwork is essential for safely directing fumes out of the kitchen. Using fire-resistant materials and minimizing bends in the ducts helps maintain good airflow. A well-designed duct system is a key part of a compliant kitchen exhaust hood installation.
Makeup Air Systems: As the exhaust hood removes air from the kitchen, it’s important to replace that air to maintain balance. Makeup air systems help maintain safe pressure levels, preventing backdrafts and ensuring overall ventilation efficiency.
Steps to Balance Ventilation and Compliance
Follow these steps to ensure that your kitchen exhaust hood installation meets both ventilation requirements and compliance standards:
1. Consult Local Building Codes
Understanding local regulations is the first step toward a compliant exhaust hood installation. This ensures that your system meets clearance requirements, CFM ratings, and fire safety standards, providing a solid foundation for your project.
2. Work with a Certified Installer
Hiring a certified professional simplifies the installation process and ensures that every aspect of the kitchen exhaust hood meets code requirements. Professionals can determine the right hood size, CFM, and duct design, making your system both effective and compliant.
3. Schedule a Pre-Installation Inspection
Consider a pre-installation inspection to verify that the planned setup meets local codes. This helps identify any necessary adjustments before the final exhaust hood installation, saving time and preventing costly rework.
Benefits of a Well-Balanced Kitchen Exhaust Hood Installation
When your kitchen exhaust hood installation is properly aligned with ventilation needs and compliance standards, you achieve improved air quality, energy efficiency, and safety. A well-installed system minimizes fire risks, lowers energy costs, and ensures that your kitchen complies with all necessary regulations, creating a more comfortable environment for staff and guests.
Balancing Safety and Efficiency
Balancing ventilation needs with regulatory compliance is crucial for a successful kitchen exhaust hood installation. By considering factors like CFM ratings, proper placement, and ductwork design, you can create a safe and efficient kitchen. Working with professionals and understanding local codes ensures that your installation meets all standards, offering peace of mind and long-term performance for your commercial kitchen.

Elain sprayed 70% ethanol into her biosafety hood and wiped it clean from right to left. No one had used it since she did earlier this morning, but you could never clean too much in a cell culture room. The air flow had been on for over five minutes, progressively filtering the air inside the hood so that she could start working without risking contaminating her cultures.
A water bath set to 37°C warmed her solutions while she began filling the hood with material. Pipettes, tips and petri dishes all got sprayed with ethanol before finding their place on the metal. Elain hummed to herself as she worked, she’d done this a hundred times and barely needed to think.
Clean to the right, dirty to the left. It was the policy in her university’s lab. Technically, everyone cleaned the hood before and after using it, but in the interest of sanity (nothing made Elain more crazy than someone’s sloppy work resulting in contamination in her experiments) they all placed their clean material to the right, and anything that was used and to be discarded moved to the left.
Human cells were kept at 37°C in the incubator to her right. The HeLa cell line came from a woman named Henrietta Lacks, someone Elain made sure her interns remembered as she never got the credit she deserved. After being diagnosed with cancer in the 1950s, the immortal cells from Henrietta’s tumor were taken and kept by researchers, without her knowledge or consent of course.
It had been legal at the time, but Elain—and every biologist she knew—still thought it was awful. Yet, they had been used over and over in medical research, and after so many years Elain had no better model for her experiments than this immortal cell line.
They required a bit of maintenance, but after a year of working with them Elain could practically do that in her sleep. She ran through the motions of a passage in no time and placed her new petri dishes on her shelf in the incubator.
Everything that was single use and had touched cells under the hood got discarded in the autoclave bag, and Elain quickly finished cleaning up after herself. Out of the room and with her gloves off, she finally got the chance to check the time on her phone.
It was still the middle of the afternoon, but there was only so much work she could do in the lab. This had been the last task Elain could think of before she was forced to get back to the small office she shared with a couple of other students to sit in front of her laptop. Now, she had no other choice but to work on analyzing her data.
The office was exceedingly gray apart from a few pictures she and the other girls had stuck on the wall in front of their desks. It was no surprise they would rather sit anywhere else on campus, and usually Elain did too, but this time she couldn’t afford a distraction.
It took all of her focus and three youtube videos for her to give up on statistics and bury her face in her hands. Why in the world had she avoided statistics after the second year of her undergrad? She remembered next to nothing about basic statistics, and what she could recall wasn’t even relevant to what she had to do for her current dataset. She was going to have to teach herself how to do this, and it was going to be painful.
Elain could always, of course, ask her supervisor. She just didn’t want to deal with the embarrassment of announcing she wasn’t capable of doing her own statistics because she’d been too lazy to take an advanced class during her undergrad.
The two girls she shared the office with would be no help, one was in the last year of her PhD and always hiding in the library to finish writing her thesis while the other was in her third year and always running around the lab to run as many experiments as she could. Neither had time to help her, or even liked statistics to begin with. No one became a biologist to analyze data, it was all about the lab work.
It was only then that it struck her. Some insane people did become biologists for the data, and she knew of exactly one in this department. While everyone else spent the majority of their time in the lab and made plans to hang out while they were there, Lucien Vanserra was somewhat excluded as he analyzed metaproteomics data.
He wasn’t the friendliest man Elain had ever met, he had his own office and was always hiding in there, but he’d been kind the few times they had interacted. He was the only person who might have the time and skill to help her.
Closing her laptop, Elain pushed her chair back and made her way down the corridor to find him. Lucien’s office was a mirror of hers a few doors down. The only reason he didn’t have to share it was that no one else became a biologist to spend the five years of their PhD running numbers.
“Hi,” she popped her head in after knocking. “Do you have a minute?”
“Sure,” Lucien pushed his chair back slightly to angle himself towards her and hid the tabs he was working on.
Somehow, Elain was too stuck remembering how handsome he was to get inside and speak. His office was just as gray and sad as hers, but his red hair was so pretty it filled the room with color. Russet eyes remained trained on her, just a shade lighter than his brown, flawless skin. His cheekbones were defined without making his face angular, though his jawline was something straight out of a magazine.
Elain was staring at his full, perfect lips when he awkwardly cleared his throat and she remembered what she was here for.
“Right,” she stepped in to let the door fall shut and helped herself to one of the free chairs to sit beside him. “I’m just starting to analyze some of my data, and I was hoping you could give me a hand with statistics, if you have the time.”
“Well, I don’t know how much data you have but I can probably help.” Lucien moved his keyboard to the side and pushed his monitor back slightly to make space for her laptop.
“Thank you so much. I guess it’s not much compared to what you’re used to,” Elain typed in her password and let him look at her excel file. “But I’ve never had to do this before, so I’m lost.”
He hummed to acknowledge he heard her, but his eyes were already scanning the numbers, figuring out how she built her table and how many variables she had before he looked at her again. “What am I looking at exactly?”
“That’s the data from my immunofluorescence,” Elain let him scroll through the rest of the table. “Basically, I did different treatments on my cells, then I fixed them on a slide and added a primary antibody to detect the protein I’m interested in. My secondary antibody is fluorescent, it detects the primary, so the intensity of the fluorescence detected by the microscope correlates to the concentration of my target protein.”
“Alright, so that’s your intensity,” he used the mousepad to point to some numbers. “And that’s your treatments? And you’ve already built some graphs?” He switched between the pages to look at them.
“Yeah, I know which treatment increases the protein concentration the most,” Elain had made the graphs pretty, adjusting the colors so that they’d fit the theme of the poster she was meant to present at a conference in just a few weeks. “But I don’t know if any of it is significant.”
“Right. So you need me to tell you which tests to run?”
Lucien looked at her like it was obvious—which it probably was to him. Her cheeks flushed, though she at least knew the answer to that after her reading and the videos she’d watched.
“No, I read up on that, tried to revive some memories from second year biostatistics. What I’m struggling with is R.” Just speaking the name of the program was enough to make her cringe. R was the most widely used program for statistics, and yet she had no idea how to do anything with it.
It was all it took for Lucien to pinpoint her problem. “You can’t code.”
“I can’t code.” Elain confirmed. “I’d really appreciate it if you could show me just for one dataset, and then I’ll use that as a template for the rest by myself.”
“It shouldn’t be too long, we could do it now,” Lucien agreed, emailing himself her file so that he could open it on his own computer. “You’ve used R before, right?”
“I used SPSS,” Elain made a face that told Lucien everything else he needed to know.
A class on R was enough to know how to run basic tests, it introduced just enough coding for it to make sense, but SPSS didn’t make you code for anything. If that was all she had ever used, she wouldn’t even know how to import her data into R.
“Alright, it might take longer than I thought,” Lucien said. “Maybe we can take some time tomorrow? I have a meeting in the morning and I need to finish a quick presentation for it. I could help you after lunch, if that works for you.”
“Yes, of course, whatever’s best for you.” Elain promptly nodded and reached for her laptop to get out of his hair. “Thank you so much Lucien.”
“Happy to help.”
.
Lucien took the next afternoon to help her, and the next, and the next. By Thursday, Elain’s brain had melted into a pile of goo and she was sure Lucien had to be sick of her. On top of everything he had shown her, she had spent her mornings trying to understand the next steps by herself only to find herself inevitably stuck.
“Fuck this,” Elain swore, dropping her head to her desk. She let out a loud groan to calm down, then straightened her back, took a deep breath and went back to staring at her screen. She deflated like a balloon on her exhale, the jumble of lines of codes making no more sense to her than it had in the past hour.
A knock came on her door, and Elain prayed it was someone coming to crash in her office to procrastinate so she could use it as an excuse to stop working. Lucien opened the door instead, an easy smile on his face.
“Hey, do you need me today?”
“Yes please,” Elain didn’t hesitate to say. He walked right in and stole a chair to sit beside her. “You’re an angel.”
“It’s no big deal,” Lucien ducked his head, a couple of strands of hair falling in his face. The rest was held back by a claw clip, and Elain thought of how unfair it was that every style suited him so well when she typically hated men with hair this long. “It’s this one, isn’t it?” Lucien pointed to one of the lines he had added to her code yesterday.
“Yes,” Elain sighed and tore her eyes away from him to focus. “I’ve been losing my mind for an hour, I think.”
“When we’re done you need to go get fresh air or do something fun, no one learning how to do this can do it all at once,” Lucien reached for the laptop, and Elain pushed it toward him.
“Well lucky for me there’s a party downstairs tonight with some dangerously cheap tequila.”
On campus parties organized by the science departments were very… unique. The space they had for it was large, but there were never enough students to fill it, which always made things awkward. Pair that with a student’s spotify staying open on a laptop for anyone to add songs to as the main source of music and it wasn’t hard to imagine how much anyone would cringe on a night like this.
Luckily, undergrads were just there to fill the space and grad students stuck together to drink and forget their work without having to go through the effort of dragging themselves to a bar or club. Elain had been roped in at the start of her first year, and she rarely missed those occasions anymore.
“Ah, sounds fun.” Lucien’s voice came out flat, his lie obvious.
“Are you coming?” Elain tried anyway. She’d been wrong in thinking he wasn’t friendly before she asked him for help, Lucien was lovely and easy to be around, and she was sure the only reason he was always working by himself was that no one else ever remembered to invite him.
“I don’t think so.”
“Why not?” Elain pressed, pushing her laptop back so he couldn’t use it as a crutch? “You should,”
Lucien sighed and looked at her. “There’s always a weird theme, I’m not dressed for it.” The sanitized excuse would have worked on anyone else, but she wasn’t ready to give up.
“Neither am I, for now.” Elain was in a plain pastel pink t-shirt and light blue jeans. Nothing about it screamed themed party, but she’d make it work. “I brought accessories, and you don’t need to fit the theme to come.”
Surely he knew that last part. Except… maybe he didn’t, and Elain gasped before she spoke again. “Lucien. Have you never been to any of these?”
“Guess not,”
“You’re in your third year!” She exclaimed. “How is that even possible?”
A shrug, then a helpless look towards Elain’s laptop as if the lines of code on the screen could save him. “I’m not that close with everyone else in the labs.”
“Well, neither was I until my first campus party.” Elain reasoned, toning her excitement down to plead with him. “Please come, I’ll be there, and it’ll be fun.”
Lucien, like the responsible man he was, pulled her work back within comfortable reach so they could get to the end of it. “We can finish this, and then I’ll think about it.”
“How much thinking will you need?”
“You’re not going to focus until I say yes, are you?” Lucien gave her a look, his head tilted as he read the expressions on her face. Elain kept her mouth shut and bit back a smile, her eyes full of hope. “Fine,” he caved too easily. “What’s the theme this time?”
“Tropical. I have hair pins with seashells on them and I bought this coconut shaped cup,” Elain opened one of her drawers. “Lucky for you, it came with a matching pineapple.”
“Of course it did.”
.
A very unproductive work session later, Lucien had fully given in for the party and Elain was rummaging through her things to accessorize them both. In an effort to get in the mood, Lucien was already sipping water from his pineapple and he’d stuck one of the seashell bobby pins in his hair.
“We can do better than that,” Elain’s curls had been pulled back slightly, uncovering her face, and it was now time for her to focus on Lucien’s hair. “Can I braid your hair?”
“Does it look like I know how to say no to you?” He lifted his pineapple and earned a grin.
“I’ll be quick.” Elain promised as she took the claw clip out of his hair.
Long strands of red hair cascaded down his back. What she guessed was usually straight, maybe slightly wavy, was now stuck in the shape it’d be held in all day. She brushed it gently, but it was barely tangled. Whatever products he used on his hair, they were perfect for him.
“Tell me if I pull too hard,” Elain parted a few strands near his temple and made quick work of braiding toward the back of his head.
Lucien didn’t say a word as she worked, closing his eyes and letting her use hair ties and pins until she was satisfied. Her fingers were used to the motions, she had grown up with two sisters and while they weren’t close anymore, there was a time when the three of them would spend the entire afternoon braiding each other’s hair in complicated updos.
“There,” Elain tucked the last strand away with her last seashell pin. “No more excuses, you fit the theme now.”
“Thank you,” Lucien opened his phone’s camera to check her work, and he could find no flaw in it.
He would have never done something like this himself—the style was more feminine than what he was used to—but it looked beautiful.
“Where are the girls from your office?”
“They’re not coming,” Elain applied a quick layer of pink lip gloss. “Emily is too busy finishing her thesis, and Mara is always with her boyfriend when she’s not in the lab.”
“Do you have one?” Lucien asked, making her frown.
“One what?”
“Boyfriend—or girlfriend, I guess,” he got up from his chair and busied himself with twirling the straw of his pineapple cup.
The coconut looked ridiculous in Elain’s hands, it was too big for her to comfortably hold in one hand, and the pineapple was a little bigger. Somehow, Lucien’s hands still dwarfed it.
“No,” Elain looked away from his hands and shrugged. “What about you?” She added innocently, as if she wasn’t burning to know if he had a girlfriend. It also wouldn’t shock her if Lucien was far too handsome and smart to be straight.
“No girlfriend,” he provided simply before he switched the subject. “Where’s everyone else?”
“They went out to get food. You’d know if you ever checked the group,” Elain waved the messenger chat in front of him. “You’ve been in it for ages, you know?”
“I might have muted that,” Lucien looked almost apologetic. Truth was he didn’t feel included whenever they invited everyone for plans and the more he waited to show up, the less welcome he felt.
“Fair enough, it gets annoying.” She moved on to grab her office keys, slipped her phone in her back pocket and grabbed her coconut. “Ready? There should be enough people now that it won’t be awkward,”
“Isn’t awkward the point of this whole thing?”
“Just be patient, it’ll be great when the alcohol kicks in.” Elain seemed to be buzzing now, the excitement of the party starting to show.
“This is going to be a disaster,” Lucien stepped out of the office first.
Elain only grinned. “Exactly.”

Canon Event Maintenance: A Gwenpool in BTSV fic
Gwen Stacy stared at the small group they had managed to amass. Compared to the hundreds of Spider-People Miguel had on his side, they weren't much, but they had potential.
"Okay, first thing we need is resources and allies." She announced, "We don't want to bring in anyone who doesn't know about the multiverse, or get them involved if you don't think they should, but if there's anyone you know who might lend us a hand, please get us in contact with them."
There was silence as all the Spiders thought this over. Because of course none of them had a solid support network. They were Spiders. Maybe Miguel was right about all that canon event stuff, even if the murder was unjustified.
It was Peter B who raised his hand, looking incredibly reluctant.
"I think I know a gal." He admitted, face twisted into a grimace, "And she would be really eager to join in on this."
"...Okay, so why's your face doing that thing?" Pavitr asked.
"Yeah! What's the catch, buster?" Spider-Ham cocked his head.
"There's nothing wrong with her! She's a wonderful kid. Just... well, you'll understand when you meet her."
In dimension 616-B, the Spider-Band stood at the top of a skyscraper, looking at the cars milling down below. Not a single building was close enough to parkour jump from, so how this mystery person was supposed to get there... Peni didn't know.
And another thing. Peter was being very evasive about the details. They didn't even know her name! But he promised that she was trustworthy, and the entire band had to take him at his word.
"Where even is she, mate?" Hobie asked, looking around impatiently, "We're nearing the agreed time, and there's no sign of her."
"Give it a sec." Peter shook his head, rocking Mayday a little in her sleep. Then, he took a slow, deliberate step to the right, just as a white hole ripped into the air above him and a figure dropped down. She was a white girl, wearing a pink civilian hoodie with a baseball hat under the hood. Her eyes were obscured by purple sunglasses that didn't seem to match her style, and had one hand shoved into the pocket of her shorts. The other one was lazily holding a unsheathed katana, with a pink handle.
Before anyone could comment, she was already talking, "Hey, Peter, what's the sitch that got you to finally call me up for a teamup? I---" She froze, finally noticing the other extradimensional spider-people all standing there. Peni had the dreadful realization that Peter had not told her anything about the spider-verse when calling her.
And then an excited grin stretched over her face.
"Oh. My. Marvel. Gods." She pulled off the sunglasses to reveal blue eyes, throwing them to the side, where they got swallowed up by another white rip in reality as if it was a normal occurrence, "This is a Spider-Verse event."
What? How'd she known that? Everyone exchanged discomfited glances, except Peter, who nodded gratefully, "Oh, good, so you're already filled in and everything. I was hoping you would be."
"Uh? Duh." The strange girl rolled her eyes, hopping excitedly in place, "Wow. Wow. I'm important enough to be in a Spider-Verse event. Except... damn, this is just a fic, so does it really count?"
Pavitr was making chopping motions, trying to get them to quit the meeting. Peni had similar doubts. Who was this girl? And how much could she really help?
"I'm getting ahead of myself!" She laughed, "Let's start from the beginning. One last time." Another giggle as she took a quick step back and... vanished? For barely a millisecond, and it was only SP//DR's keen sight which told her that, because then she was back, dressed in a pink and white battle-grade leotard, with leather pouches and guns strapped all over her. There was a mask, but it was clutched in her hand, allowing them to see shoulder-length blond hair tipped with pink that, combined with her skin tone and blue eyes and overall color pallette made her look a lot like... Gwen.
Everyone's eyes drifted to the woman in question, and Peni knew they were all thinking the same thing. Peter's contact took a sweeping bow, "Hello, then! My name's Gwen Poole! I can manipulate reality as well as the Scarlet Witch can!"
Huh. Well, okay then.
----
Author's Notes:
Might do a part two if you guys enjoy. Seen a lot of people thinking about a Gwenpool in the Spider-Verse movies cameo, but not enough fics to solve that problem. By which I mean any. I haven't seen any fics. Pls tag me if theres a tumblr fic like this. Characterization is a little off bc Gwen P. is too excited to think straight. Her media awareness and the mechanics of it will be built up further, but lets just say she knows she's in a fic, but not in which fandom its for, so reacting to it like a comic teamup.
Also. Those were indeed Kate's sunglasses she was wearing.

So, about curly hair care…
So @evilpenguinrika and I were talking briefly about this and I realize that so many of us curlies are in the trenches when it comes to hair care, mostly due to popularized misinformation.
I spent the majority of my life not going natural because I was overwhelmed with the thought of managing my hair myself. If I knew years ago what I know now, it would have changed my life. 🥲 But, since it’s never too late to see the light, I wanna share things I’ve learned from actual curl professionals (NOT Hairfluencers/Youtubers) about simplified healthy curly hair maintenance!
Basically, you only need three things for a bomb style with your curls:
shampoo and conditioner at least every 7 days
a good water-based gel or holding mousse applied to detangled wet hair to set your curls
hooded dryer or hand blow dryer with diffuser attached to dry your hair after setting it
And dassit.
How do you shampoo curly hair?
You get your hair sopping wet in the shower, like, make sure you spend a few minutes just letting the water run over and through your hair. Then, you take the shampoo and work it in by smoothing it through your hair from root to tip. You know those commercials where they have a woman piling all her hair up on top of her head and rubbing? Yeah, us curlies shouldn’t be doing that. It makes the detangling step even worse! 😵💫
How do you detangle?
After adding conditioner to completely saturated hair, take a detangling brush and work your way from root to tip. Then you rinse. This is called “active conditioning” because you’re working the conditioner in instead of just slapping it on your hair to sit. Any shed strands will be collected in the brush to prevent drain clogs, and your curls will be defined without any “fairy knots” (single strand knots).
How do I keep my curls moisturized?
Making sure you wash it regularly; don’t go longer than a week without a shampoo. Moisture is water. If your hair is dry, just hop in the shower and cleanse it, then restyle. Also, it’s best not to towel-dry your hair; more water in your strands before you set your look is key to a lasting style!
How do I style curly hair?
However you want to! But if you’re looking for a basic “wash & go”, all you need is a mousse or water-based hair gel to put in your wet hair after the shower to define your curls and give them hold until you wash again. If you don’t want your hair to be frizzy, sit under a dryer after application until fully dry.
Please note that any other products (oils, creams, leave-in conditioner/treatments) aren’t needed, and may even be working directly against your hair goals.
Working… against? My hair goals?
Yeah. 🥲 I’d say the vast majority of specialty products hawked to those with curly/kinky hair are not needed. For example, if you want luscious, defined clumps of curls, you won’t get that with leave in conditioners or butters or creams. Raw oils actually just coat your hair strand, which makes it shiny but also makes it waterproof and negatively affects scalp conditions. You have to clarify all of that out of your hair regularly in order to get moisture into your strands, so it’s better to just leave them on the shelves.
Hair care should be simple, and it is! Most people just need a consistent wash cycle with quality hair products in order to see drastic results they thought they would only get after numerous expensive hair treatments.
What are some quality hair products?
Basically look for stuff that doesn’t have butters & oils in the first five ingredients. Having SOME formulated into hair products is good, but not to the point where it’s the main draw of the product. It’s not the oils and butters that will help your curls, it’s the cleansing and hydration from water that does! Quality products may have a higher price tag, but you don’t need to use a whole lot per wash so a little goes a long way! I wash my hair every 3-5 days and the bottles of shampoo/conditioner I bought a year and a half ago are still going strong. ☺️
Also keep in mind that technique is key; if you don’t give yourself time to acquire the skill of managing curly hair to be its best, you could have the best products in the world and still be in shambles. This is where curl specialists come in, who offer workshops and consultations to teach you how to manage your hair at home so you end up saving a ton of time and money without all the guesswork.
So, who are these curl specialists?
I gotchu! All of the ones listed below are Black, but the core of curly hair care is not race-specific. As long as you’re not a non-Black tryna get locs or box braids, everything is cross-cultural! Some have online communities you can join for personalized help and instruction, but all have a wealth of information for free to get you started on your healthy curly hair journey.
Please note: These are licensed professionals that went to school to learn things about hair care the general public wouldn’t have access to otherwise. All they want is to bring clarity and simplicity to curly hair care!

Here are some tips to help you clean your kitchen chimney effectively
Cleaning your kitchen chimney is an essential yet often overlooked task that can greatly impact the air quality and functionality of your kitchen. Here are some comprehensive tips to guide you through the process:
Prepare Your Workspace: Before you begin, ensure you have ample space around the chimney for maneuvering and cleaning. Lay down old newspapers or a drop cloth to catch any drips or spills.
Turn Off Power and Disconnect: Safety first! Before you start cleaning, switch off the power to your chimney from the main circuit breaker. If your chimney is connected to an electrical outlet, unplug it. This precaution prevents any accidental start-ups during the cleaning process.
Remove Filters and Panels: Most kitchen chimneys have removable filters and panels that need regular cleaning. Carefully remove these components according to the manufacturer's instructions. These filters are typically located underneath the hood and may require unlocking or sliding out.
Soak Filters in Degreaser: Grease buildup is a common issue in kitchen chimneys. To effectively remove grease, soak the filters in a mixture of hot water and a degreaser solution. This helps to loosen stubborn grime, making it easier to clean later. Allow the filters to soak for at least 15-20 minutes.
Scrub Filters and Panels: After soaking, use a soft-bristled brush or sponge to scrub the filters and panels thoroughly. Pay close attention to areas with heavy grease buildup. For stubborn stains, you may need to apply additional degreaser and scrub more vigorously. Rinse the filters and panels with clean water to remove any residue.
Clean Interior Surfaces: The interior surfaces of your chimney also require attention. Use a damp cloth or sponge soaked in a mild degreaser solution to wipe down the interior walls, fan blades, and any other accessible surfaces. Be gentle to avoid damaging delicate components.
Check and Clean Fan Blades: The fan blades play a crucial role in extracting smoke and odors from your kitchen. Inspect the blades for any signs of grease or debris buildup. If necessary, use a soft brush or cloth to gently clean the blades. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or excessive force, as this could damage the fan.
Inspect Exhaust Duct: The exhaust duct is responsible for venting air outside your home. Over time, it can become clogged with grease and debris, restricting airflow. Inspect the exhaust duct for any blockages or buildup. If you notice any obstructions, use a vacuum cleaner or a long brush to remove them.
Clean Exterior Surfaces: Don't forget to clean the exterior surfaces of your chimney hood. Use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe away any grease or dirt. For stainless steel hoods, you can use a specialized stainless steel cleaner to restore shine and remove fingerprints.
Reassemble and Test: Once everything is clean and dry, reassemble the filters, panels, and any other removed components. Double-check that everything is securely in place. Restore power to your chimney and test it to ensure it's functioning properly.
Establish a Regular Maintenance Routine: To keep your kitchen chimney in top condition, establish a regular cleaning schedule. Aim to clean the filters and interior surfaces every 1-3 months, depending on usage. Regular maintenance will help prevent excessive grease buildup and maintain optimal airflow.
By following these comprehensive tips, you can effectively clean your kitchen chimney, ensuring it operates efficiently and maintains a healthy cooking environment for years to come
