Scraping your pen, you flick inky lines with your freshly uncapped pen over thin paper. His snout isn’t quite right, veering off to the side, as though a bludger had knocked the side of his face. The flick of your wrist smudges wet, smudged ink across the expanse of the paper. There it went. All your hard work in a manner of seconds.

“Darn!” you curse mildly, as temperate as you were, rushing to fix it with the skills of a muggle. It’s your deepest wish to fix it with your natural muggle skills, rather than one as a witch, knowing how Charlie loved your normal depictions. 

But… This publication would never work like the ink that smeared your pale paper. You almost had his expression right, the wonder between his jovial eyes, his wild fiery hair flapping over his sparking eyes atop of his broom. His shaggy hair bore that quality you just-- loved.

“Look it that,” his voice has this natural, awe inspiring chime, as if you’re the center of his large world. “You made a submission, eh?”

“It doesn’t look right, does it?” you say, puffing air, retaining your soft sighs. No matter how you drew his likeness, it didn’t seem right. Maybe, you thought, you brought yourself up to an impossible task. 

“Hmm,” Charlie kneels in front of you, flipping your knuckle away from the portrait. He whirls through the air with a pose of tough, masculine enterprise, seeking out the snitch, whose shape transfigured into a small baby dragon. “Is that a--” 

“A dragon of some sort,” you reach for a book, shuffling the pages. The wind has thrown them over, flicking pages from where you were.  “A… what is that?”

“Welsh Green,” he answers, albeit a little tentatively. “Daring. But they won’t publish this, you know.” 

“I know. I start to think my work won’t ever be published. But...” you struggle with the moment, overwhelming when he sat before you. His calm eyes wear a rush of wildness, a duality between the man the public saw and the boy you knew him to be. His elbows rest over his knees, voice softening when he again speaks. “I like it. You know that? It’s daring.” 

You’re nodding, smoothing the page out with your finger. Charlie was being nice. He was always nice. You knew the piece was not publishable, not when you knew what everyone expected of Charlie. But… that was okay because in your mind, this was the Charlie that everyone should be seeing. Free.

Not what everyone said he was... Between paper and pen, you could imagine what his life would be like chasing a snitch every day. He could most certainly do it: be rich and famous. Men and women would flock in the darkness, past tents of pulsing song and congested crowds, all to see him. The Charlie you knew was sure of himself and what he wanted, damn the crowds, damn anyone that told him otherwise.

“Think I could have that?” 

“This?” you gesture, gazing over the portrait. It’s as close to complete as it would get. You roll your lip into your mouth, then nod, curt and to the point. “Sure I-- I guess it’s done.” 

He’s smiling again. That makes it worth it. It’s hard for you to focus on more than the ripping of the page, giving it to him, and standing up after gathering your things. You smooth out your skirt, clutching your books on beautiful creatures close to your breast. “I’ll see you later,” Charlie waves, starting his trot down toward Hagrid’s hut. With that, you go to the common room. 

“--what is with everyone today?” 

It was the fifth time that day someone had given you a whistle, caught your eyes or gazed at you in disgust or wonder-- and it was barely time for breakfast! You absentmindedly fixed the maroon and golden tie down your chest, tugged your skirt down, wondering if that damn skirt was showing more than it was meant to. Maybe your lipstick was half way up your face. 

“Is my lipstick off?” you ask Amilia again. “They’re looking at me like I was caught in the shack!”

“No,” she laughs, strawberry blonde hair bobbing down the changing stairs. “But really, (Y/N). The way you sneak away with Charlie, can you blame them?” 

“We do not sneak around,” you twist your wrist, smacking Amilia. You surface at the bottom. Your heels click as you make your way into Hogwarts’s Great Hall, glancing toward your table. Prying eyes come from every direction. Admiring, or hating, it makes no difference. 

“I’d say otherwise,” Amilia says in this cheery, obnoxiously sing-song tone. “What were you doing out there?” 

“Drawing, Amilia, drawing. I most certainly wasn’t-- wasn’t doing that. In eyeshot of Hagrid’s tent? And you know us! We aren’t. Most certainly not.” You’re a simple artist of beautiful dragons, far and wide, ambitious… but ordinary. Charlie could have any number of girls up and down and of the tables. With that in mind you conceal your gaze, level your chin, and take a seat across from her. Charlie hasn’t shown up yet, which is odd, because he usually sits beside you even if he doesn’t specifically talk to you.  

Out of the corner of your eye, you catch a girl’s hard stare. It’s short, at first, but with every bite of her food, she leers disdainfully at you. At last you lift your face, turning toward her. “Do you have an issue?” you ask, wishing you hadn’t. 

She garbles around the spoon in her mouth, all chopped up when she swallows. “You ruin ‘im on purpose?”

“Ruin him?” you repeat, glancing to Amilia, who holds a newspaper between her fingers. “What’s the loon talking about?”

“It looks like,” She presents you with the page. “Charlie.” 

If your plate had food, you would have flipped it in the shock of the moment. Thankful as you were, it didn’t. Because you nearly fell out of the long bench, fingers clasped to the pages, and all hunger eviscerated. That was your photo-- your awful, ugly prototype headlining the page. 

Charlie Weasley-- Abandons Quidditch to Run Away, Chasing Dragons. 

Your stomach lurches, heels clicking, quickly you rush out of there-- knowing the amount of pressure that is about to come down upon your head. Because not only had you ruined the photo, but you had ruined his career. Amilia’s voice, calling you back, is but a distant memory. Suddenly it occurs just why they were looking at you-- because it’s your fault. 

“I didn’t do it because of you,” he says, and you turn, facing him. He stands there with his hands shoved deep into his pockets, considering you. He wasn’t in the Great Hall just a bit to go, but then again, he could survive without breakfast if he really wanted to. “I know that’s what you’re thinking. ‘I ruined Charlie’s chances.’” 

He knows you. Maybe, at times, more than you knew yourself. 

“You could have been a great Quidditch champion. Lived the big life with all the lights, and the money, and the women. You know what kind of women these guys meet? You could be happy, but really really happy and what about your family? You could--” 

“Mum wouldn’t want me to be miserable, y’hear?” He slips his hands out of his pockets, sets them on your shoulders. “What kinda happiness you think being a ‘star’ would be? No woman would really be there, not like I want.” 

“Like you want?” 

His hands slip, off your shoulder, gentle as they caress down your arm. There, at your wrist, they settle, shaking. Has he noticed he’s shaking? “Think you would want to illustrate dragons down there?”

“With you?” you say, because you can’t help it, not really. “Charlie you… you know I’m no good at art. Look at the picture you took.” 

You glance off one way, then another, small groups of students giggle as they walk past. Surely a professor would be out soon, too, ushering all the students where they meant to go. “Sure you are-- I…” his lips press together, and he waits, as if he wants you to just give in. But at the end of the day, you know Charlie. It would be your choice to give up what you wanted to do, chase dragons like a fool, like everyone called him. “I’d like it if you came. I’d needa make a book, you know. People don’t like book without pictures.” 

There’s no place. No time. No promise there but the promise in his words. Your fingers wedge in between the webbing of his calloused fingers, and you have a distinct feeling that they would only get tougher as he aged.

“That’d be nice, Charlie.”

Hello lovies ! It’s that time of the year again and we thought about putting some holiday prompts together and host a CHRISTMAS WRITING CHALLENGE !!!

It’s very simple: everyone can join. You don’t have to be a reputed writer to do it, this is for fun.

Anything goes (Fluff, Angst, Smut…) It has to be new content written by you. Let’s make it 200-2000 words, not too short or too long. Send us an ask with the prompt number and the character and we put you on the list. Please put warnings for content such as NSFW, excessive violence, or other triggering materials.

You can choose any character from Vikings ( cast included ).

Others TV shows and movies that could be included: The Last kingdom, marvel & dc universe , Star Wars, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Punisher, Teen Wolf, The Flash, The Originals, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Stranger Things (DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT WRITING SMUT FOR KIDS AND TEENAGERS).

Something unique about you: i have no idea tbh 🤔 (this is something other people notice about you, so i should ask my friends 😜) um i like rewatching my fav movies & tv shows, i can re-watch them 10 times & wouldn't get tired or bored. I also enjoy silly cartoons a lot (oggy & cockroaches , space goofs, the smurfs, spongebob....) i watch them everyday (no shame). this counts as unique?
