Caught Staring
feat - Osferth, Finan, Uhtred, Sihtric
In which Uhtred and his pretty boys are caught staring at the woman their heart desires
a/n: my first post finally!!! I decided to start small in order to get the feel of writing for these characters! likes and reblogs are appreciated!!
“I can feel you staring at me…”
You watch the timid monk stiffen and look away from your peripheral. You often noticed Osferth’s eyes were drawn towards you when in the same room. You didn’t mind, of course; it was quite cute, so you never felt the need to call him out on it, but the poor boy looked as if he was about to explode if you didn’t speak up soon.
“Ah…apologies… I don’t mean to stare." His eyes involuntarily straying back towards you for a moment before he forced his gaze to the wooden floorboards beneath his feet.
“Have I got something on my face?” You tear your gaze from the arrow you had been crafting, now trailing over the anxious-looking monk. “Or perhaps my hair is askew?” A smile curls its way onto your lips as you watch Osferth shake his head at your teasing, his eyes flickering up to your face before dropping back down as if he couldn’t decide if he wanted to meet your gaze.
"N…n-no, my lady, you-“
"I’m teasing you, Osferth,” you cut him off, not wanting him to embarrass himself further, his own lips curling into a smile as his eyes finally decided that he did want to meet your gaze.
“Oh…” His voice is barely above a whisper. “Right…”
The two of you fall into a comfortable silence as your attention is drawn back to what you were doing before.
and again, Osferth is staring.
He watches as your hands craft arrow after arrow as if it were nothing more than muscle memory.
From the corner of your eye, you notice Osferth fidgeting again, unsure if he should leave or try to start another conversation with you.
“Come, sit,” you break the silence, making the decision for him as you offer him the seat across from you. “I’ll show you how to make an arrow.”
“I can feel you staring at me.”
Your voice cuts through the loud ale house, but Finan seemed to hear you just fine from where he was standing, slumped against the wall next to where you sat.
“What? Now I’m not allowed to look at ya?" He scoffs, bringing the mug to his lips.
“First ya take my seat, and now ya won’t even let me look at ya?" He jests, shaking his head as he wipes his mouth with the back of his hand.
Your eyes roll at his words, unable to hide the smile Finan seemed to always bring to your lips.
“I’m going to get us some more ale,” you state with a laugh, plucking the mug from his hands as you stand up and make your way to the barmaid behind the counter.
Of course, once you left, Finan reclaimed his stolen seat. You opened your mouth to protest, but before you’re able to get a word out, he’s pulling you into his lap, the ale in the mugs sloshing around, coating your hands in the sticky liquid.
“Finan!” you scold. “I’m covered in ale now, you bastard!”
He shushes you as he takes one of the filled mugs from your hands. “I’ll help you clean it off later; just sit still and let me enjoy a nice cup of ale with a pretty girl on my lap.”
“I can feel you staring at me,”
A grin stretches it’s way onto Uhtred’s face as he tore another piece of chicken from the bone, his eyes flickering down to the meat as he slips it into his mouth before his gaze moves back to yours.
“Am I not allowed to look at my woman anymore?” He said in his usual smug tone that only added to his charm.
“There’s a difference between looking and staring,” you say with false annoyance lacing between your words.
This, of course, only makes him more smug, causing laughter to bubble up past his lips as he continues to enjoy his meal.
“I can’t help that you look so beautiful tonight." Uhtred shrugs, looking back down at his plate as he finishes his food.
“I look the same as I always do,” you argue, standing up to put away the plates.
As you walk by, Uhtred catches your waist with his hand. He leans back in his chair, his thumb gently moving back and forth, tracing the skin beneath your clothes.
“That doesn’t make you any less beautiful to me." His voice was softer than before; the smugness was gone as he gazed up at you.
“Sit, I would like to enjoy this moment with you a little longer." He releases your waist at the request, and you obliged, of course. Who are you to deny Lord Uhtred such a simple request? A request that ended up leading you right into his bed.
“I can feel you staring at me.”
You pull your hands from the cold water of the river, giving Sihtric your full attention. It was hard to believe he was the warrior that people said he was because every time you got a look at him, he looked more like a puppy than a man to you, much like he did now, staring at you with wide eyes, shifting in the place he stood as he worked up the courage to speak more than his usual two words to you.
“I wasn’t staring." His voice was light, almost light enough to be carried away in the wind, but you heard him. You always did.
“No?” you hummed, turning your attention back to the wet dress in your hand. “Just happened to be strolling by the river, looking in my direction then?”
There was a pause; for a moment, the only sound you heard was the sound of the river as you used it to wash your clothes.
“You shouldn’t be out here alone." Sihtric spoke up, changing the subject. It seemed he’d rather focus on you in this moment.
“I’m not alone,” you replied, squeezing the water from the dress you were cleaning. “You’re here.” You look back at him from over your shoulder, smiling at the sight of him moving his gaze down to his feet.
“Will you come and make yourself useful, or are you just going to stand there and stare at me?” Your invitation seems to break the barrier between you two, the leaves crunching beneath his feet getting louder as he gets closer.
“I was not staring,” he mumbles, taking one of the dirty pieces of clothing from her basket and dipping it into the river.

+ · 。~ favorite physical touch
pairing.uhtred, finan, sihtric, osferth & sigtrygger x female reader |genre. fluff, reactions? Idk what to call this | warnings. Touching and some kissing | wc. 692 |
synopsis. some sexy tlk men’s favorite physical touch with there girl
request. no
note. I got this cute idea when I was watching kitchen nightmares, weird right? i really want to write more for other characters, just need some suggestions 👩🏻💻 this is kinda short, but it’s sweet. Maybe I’ll make a part 2 in the future!
☆ UHTRED
laying his head on your chest
Uhtred loves laying his head on your chest, for multiple reasons. One, because it's very comfortable, being able to lay down and just close his eyes, feeling your warmth. The second reason is because he loves being able to hear the soothing beat of your heartbeat. He has lost so many people that he's loved in his life, so being able to have you close to him and knowing that you're there, that you're safe…that you're alive. It's very special to him. The two of you don't even have to talk, just lay in silence; in bliss in the bed, you two shares. It's very intimate.
☆ FINAN
cuddling
Finan absolutely loves cuddling with you, he loves how close it makes the two of you become. It doesn't matter what position, as long as the two of you are as close as you can be, he's fine with it. Finan doesn't mind showing some public affection but the two of you mostly cuddle at home, in bed or his favorite place, the soft fur rug in front of the fireplace. Finan’s favorite part of his day is when the two of you wind down, and cuddle on the rug in front of the fire, drinking some ale and talking about your days. Sometimes he would even interrupt you to place a few kisses on your skin that was illuminated by the fire. It was peaceful, it was warm.
☆ SIHTRIC
hugging you close
It was hard for sihtric to really find his favorite physical touch, there all his favorites. But the more he thought about it, he realized that hugging you was his favorite. He hugged you when he was sad, when he was upset, when he was happy. He loved hugging you; he loved being able to pull you close and wrap his arms around you. He loved the smile that would spread across your lips when he pulled you close to him, or how flustered and shy you would get when he would lean to whisper flirty comments in your ear. Either it was hugging you from behind or the front, he loved it. He also hugged you and left a kiss on your forehead before he would have to leave (and ofc a breathtaking kiss). There was just something about hugging you that gets him going.
☆ OSFERTH
resting his head on you
Osferth is a shy boy, at first that is. He was too shy to show public affection towards you around others, so he left all that for when the two of you were alone. But he started noticing something that he did in public and private without realizing, and that had quickly become his favorite thing to do. And that was resting his head on you. When the two of you sat next to each other, he would rest his head on your shoulder and watch your side profile, taking in every detail about you that he could. He also liked resting his head in your lap, looking up at you or the sky, listening to you talk or just quietly relaxing to the feeling of you playing with his hair. He loved it so much; it was just so comforting to be like this with you.
☆ SIGTRYGGR
kissing you
Okay, Sigtryggr is a very touchy lover, so it's hard to pick just one. But thinking about it more, he realizes that kissing you is his favorite physical touch. He does it quite a lot, like a lot. In the mornings he wakes you up by placing soft kisses all over your face and neck, he loves the way your nose scrunches in confusion and your eyes flutter open, only too sleepily smile when you realize what's happening. You would lose count with how many times he would kiss you through the day, on the lips, on the cheek and even on your hand. He likes to surprise you and kiss you on the cheek, alerting you of his presence. He likes grabbing your hand in his and kissing it gently as he keeps his eyes on you, he likes kissing your shoulder and neck from behind. And let's not forget the breathtaking kisses the two of you share.
note: this was fun to write omg! This was my first time writing something for osferth, uhtred and sigtrygger. I want to write more for them, I have some ideas 👩🏻🍳
I’m honestly just re-falling in love with sigtrygger like omg 😩🤭
I know I haven’t gotten a full fic out in a whileee, but I just have been having trouble really focusing on a fic. But don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll get my grove back!
Like I said at the first note, this is pretty short but maybe I’ll make a part 2 in the future.
I hope you guys enjoyed this!
Please comment and tell me what you think of it, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Something nicer {Sihtric}
Summary: Sihtric takes care of his family during the night of a storm.
Dad!Sihtric x Fem!Reader
Warnings: nothing, unless you fear children and a simp of a man :)
Word count: 699 haha nice
Disclaimer: Not proof read, we die like men here. Also have decided to make this a little series of the TLK men being dads because it warms my heart
There had been rumors of a storm hitting, and Sihtric couldn’t be more happy that he had made it home before it hit. The nights had been getting colder, almost unbearably cold. Furs were piled high on all the beds at night, roaring fires hit in hearths to keep the chill at bay. You were curled into Sihtric’s side, your nose cold and red from being the only part of you visible under the mountain of furs you curled under. The man sucked in a breath as your cold nose made contact with his neck, making him shiver. The door to the bedroom creaked open, making the restless man look up, seeing the small figure of your youngest child standing there, holding a small stuffed bear tightly in her arms.
“Da, it’s so cold.” The little girl cried quietly. Sihtric sighed, sitting up and letting the furs pool around his waist, the cold air hitting his skin.
“It is.” Sihtric agreed, motioning for his youngest to climb onto the bed. “Lay with your mom, keep her nice and warm and I’ll go get the fires going again, okay?” He cooed softly, tugging the furs over the young girl and kissing her forehead. In your sleep you reached out for your daughter, pulling her closer to you and letting out a soft hum. Both Sihtric and your daughter let out small laughs, before the man stood from the bed and found the closest tunic he could reach.
The wooden floors were half frozen, sending shocks through him as he quickly rushed to the living room to stoke the fire before heading down the hallway to the children’s room to stoke that one as well. Sihtric almost cursed the day you insisted on giving your children the larger room with a fireplace in it, but they would always come first. He just prayed to the Gods you would be able to move houses soon, somewhere that was much larger and had a fireplace in every room to keep the family warm.
Your two oldest children were curled together in one bed, shivering under the furs while the man worked quickly to warm them. The middle child, your only son, had abandoned his bed at some point in the night to help keep his older sister warm during the night. Once the fire was roaring once more, Sihtric grabbed some of the extra furs from a chest beside the door and covered the children, kissing both their foreheads before leaving the room quietly.
When he was finally back in his and (Y/N)’s room, he smiled fondly seeing his wife and youngest child sleeping soundly in each other's arms. He slowly slid back under the covers, reaching over your daughter who laid contently between you two, and pulled the both of you closer to his shivering form.
“Where did you go?” You asked, your voice laced with sleep as your eyes opened slowly to look at your husband.
“Just fed the fires.” He told you softly, pushing some of your hair away from your face as he smiled widely. “Gave the children some extra furs to keep them warm until morning.”
“We need more fireplaces to keep this place warm.” You joked quietly, a small smile tugging at your lips. The walls would tend to let in drafts during the colder months, taking all the heat away when the family so desperately needed it.
“Or a nicer home.” Sihtric mumbled, his eyes growing heavy with the sleep that so desperately called for him. “I will talk to Uhtred in the morning, see if there is something we can do about the cursed cracks in the walls until then.” He promised, placing a tender kiss on your lips before leaning down and kissing your daughter's head. “Just rest darling, the warmth will flow through the house soon.”
“I’m not the one shivering.” You hummed, placing a warm hand on your husband's arm. He smiled softly, holding you and your daughter tightly as the both of you fell asleep once more.
He would always wake up at night, to stoke the fires that warmed your family, just until he could provide something nicer.

Hey,
Could you imagine doing an Athelstan x reader. Where the reader is the daughter of Sihtric.
Maybe the reader could be the first child of Sihtric and his first wife (I know he only has one but his wife from the series could be the second). When his wife from the series met him, he left the readers mother and got together with his new wife. Unfortunately, the readers mother died shortly afterwards.
The reader's world collapsed but she still has her best friends Athelstan and Sophia, who is Finan's daughter. (I just like the name Sophia, I hope it's okay that Finan also has a daughter in this story. Of course you can change the name)
It would be cool if sihtric's new wife doesn't like the reader because she looks like her mother.
(So she is almost the evil stepmother, but the siblings are sweet)
Of course, Sihtric loves his daughter the reader more than anything but the reader distances herself because she blames him and his new wife for the fact that her mother is gone. Maybe she could also be jealous that sihtric also spends a lot of time with his other children and his new wife, because normally it was always only her and her father against the rest of the world.
Athelstan and the reader have always had feelings for each other. They didn't want to tell the other because they were afraid to destroy the friendship.
Sophia and the reader are like sisters, the two are inseparable and do everything together. When the reader was getting worse and worse, because she became more angry because of her father and their relationship got worse and worse, Sophia made a suggestion to go away. Sophia and the reader are both shieldmaiden and always wanted to travel over the world and make a name for themselves. Even if it is difficult for both to leave their family and Athelstan behind, they go away. Sophia, of course, finds it difficult to leave her father because she has no problems with him, but for the reader she would do it.
When the fight for Bebbanburg takes place after years and Sophia and the reader hear about it, they come to help. The two have a great army. The warriors and shieldmaiden wanted to follow them because they were impressed by their fighting skills.
In the end, there might be a conversation between the reader and Sihtric and that she tells him how she feels. And of course, Athelstan and the reader confess their feelings to each other, which became even stronger than they were not together.
I'm sorry it's so long but I wanted to write down all sorts of thoughts I hope you like it.
Your reader
Go ahead and cry, little girl
A/N: Heyyyyy, I am back from the dead. I am SUPER sorry for the massive delay. I've just been off Tumblr for a bit, but I am back. This is quite possibly the longest oneshot I've written so far lol. The Aethelstan bit doesn't quite start until the end but I do like how it turned out and I hope you like what I've done with your prompt <3 (could you tell that I was listening to Daddy Issues on repeat while writing this lmfao)
Disclaimer: I haven't watched the TLK movie (and I've been avoiding spoilers lol) so I have no idea what Aethelstan is like in that one, this is just based on what I know about him in season 5. Also, I was super done with this story by the time I was done with it so it's not really proofread. If you see any typos feel free to point them out so I can fix them lol, or just enjoy it as it is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Word Count: ~8k
Pairing: Aethelstan x Reader.
The air was crisp and filled with the scent of pine and earth, invigorating the senses. In the heart of Rumcofa, a small clearing had been transformed into a makeshift training ground. Sihtric Kjartansson stood in the middle of the clearing, his battle-worn sword resting on his broad shoulder. Across from him stood his young daughter. Although you were only a young girl of seven winters, your hands tightly gripped the wooden sword in your hand as you stood tall, shoulders set and feet wide apart as you tried to copy your father's stance.
"Hold your sword higher, bend your elbows," Sihtric called out, circling you, and gently nudging you to correct your stance.
"Yes, Father," you nodded.
Once Sihtric was satisfied with your pose, he turned as if to walk away, only to lunge forward, swinging his sword with calculated precision. Your training sword met his attack, weapons clashing with a resounding thud. Father and daughter moved in harmony, your steps an intricate dance. SIhtric would feign an attack, allowing you to then parry and counter, your small frame mirroring your father's every move.
As the training session drew to a close, a beaming smile stretched across Sihtric's face, as pride swelled within him. He extended a calloused hand and ruffled your hair, affectionately mussing it.
"You fought well today, my little shieldmaiden," he grinned.
"Thank you, Father!"
The sounds of whoops and cheers filled the air. You turned your head toward the two children standing on the sidelines, watching you with keen interest as they clapped. There was Sophia, with her fiery red hair cascading down her shoulders, bouncing on her toes as she waited for you to approach them. The mousy-looking boy standing next to her, Aethelstan, rolled his eyes but his shy smile as he met your gaze gave him away.
Once you were within a few paces, Sophia launched herself at you with a squeal of delight, throwing her arms around you.
"You were incredible!" she crowed. "You'll soon be even better than Aethelstan here."
Aethelstan scoffed, "She still has a long way to go before that."
You rolled your eyes, "You know I can kick your arse right now if I want, right?"
"Cannot!"
"Can too."
You stuck your tongue out at your friend, and he returned the gesture, causing Sophia to laugh.
Sihtric cleared his throat to interrupt the bickering, "Alright, alright kids, off you go. The hour grows late and your parents must be expecting you home."
"It's alright, Father knows where I am," Sophia responded cheerfully.
Sihtric chuckled, "Yes well I don't know about Finan, but Eadith will surely have my head if I don't send you back before dark. Off you go, you can see each other tomorrow."
Sophia gave you one last hug before departing, and Aethelstan settled on a wave of his hand which you mimicked. After they had gone, Sihtric took your hand, gently leading the way toward your own home.
"Did you see that, Father? Aethelstan denies it but I could definitely kick his ass, couldn't I?"
"Language, little one."
"You use it all the time Father."
"Ah yes, but you know your mother doesn't like it when you use words like that."
"Your mother doesn't like what?" came a frail voice from the doorway of your house.
You looked up to see your mother leaning against the wall, arms crossed and an affectionate smile playing on her lips. There were shadows under her eyes and her skin looked sickly pale but at least she was well enough to get out of bed today.
"Mama!" you let go of your father's hand to rush up to her, wrapping your arms around her waist and burying your face in her warm dress.
Your mother laughed, "And what was my mischievous girl up to today, hmm?"
"Father is teaching me how to spar. He says I'm getting better every day!"
"Is that so?"
"Yes, she is," Sihtric came over to wrap an arm around your mother's shoulder and pressed a kiss to her forehead.
She smiled and leaned against him with a sigh.
"How are you feeling, love?"
"A lot better now that you're both here. Eadith was here earlier. She...she says that..." your mother sent a cautious glance your way.
"What did she say?" Sihtric prompted.
Your mother was quick to flash him a reassuring smile, "Nothing too noteworthy. All is well."
"If you say so."
"Now go wash up, both of you!" your mother laughed, pinching your cheeks and gently pushing Sihtric further inside the house. "You both smell awful!"
"Mother!"
"You know I love you darling, but you need a bath."
"Get the fuck out of my house!"
You had never seen your mother this angry before. Her rage was a tangible thing, large and looming as she raged. The object of her wrath was your father, who stood there in your mother's room, eyes steeled with determination, even as she threw things at him.
"I-I can explain," Sihtric began, his voice faltering as he ducked to avoid the book she threw at his head.
"Explain?" your mother roared, her voice echoing through the chamber. "Is there any explanation for such treachery? After all these years of devotion, I am met with betrayal?"
Her normally gentle demeanour was replaced with a fiery fury that demanded attention. Her throat was raw and her voice cracked. Her eyebrows furrowed, knitting together in a mixture of anger and disbelief. The delicate curve of her lips, once known for only speaking words of grace and tenderness, contorted into a stern line, a testament to her righteous fury. Her complexion was paler than usual, and all colour drained from her face as tears streamed down, betraying her vulnerability.
You watched your parents argue from the doorway, eyes darting between them. Your hands clenched, nails digging into your palms hard enough to leave marks. You would have much rather left to be with your friends, but you stayed because you worried for your mother. Your parents were not the type to fight, not explosively like this anyways. Sure they had petty arguments, they were human after all, but those were always resolved soon after, with your father bringing your mother flowers and an apology that would coax a smile from her. You worried that they might not recover from this, and if they did not recover, you wondered how your mother would even survive it. She was already so weak. These were the thoughts that consumed you, as you watched silently. You did not even dare entertain the other thoughts that whispered at the edges of your mind, thoughts about your mother's allegations against your father.
"I offered you my love, my trust, and this is how you repay me?" your mother continued, her voice quivering with emotion. "You have shamed not only me but our entire family!"
"Listen-" Sihtric tried again, avoiding her eyes in shame.
"No you listen! If you wanted to be free to hump all the whores you liked, you shouldn't have married me. Now go. Go back to your harlot and do not let me see your face here!"
Sihtric's eyes widened with disbelief, "You...you do not mean that."
"Oh, I mean it with all my heart."
"It was a mistake. I swear it was a mistake."
"No, it wasn't."
Your mother's voice cracked with grief as more tears flowed from her stricken eyes. She suddenly rushed up to her husband, grabbed his chin with surprising strength and wrenched his face up to meet her gaze.
"It was not a mistake," she hissed. "You have already dishonoured me enough, do not make it worse by lying to me as well."
"I didn't mean to hurt you," was all he said, his voice small.
Your mother's hand fell away and she took a trembling step back.
"What was it then? What was it about me that was not enough for you? Was it my sickness? I admit that I have not had much energy for anything these past few months but-"
She was then unable to finish her sentence, a choked sob escaping her lips as she clapped her hands over her mouth to stifle it.
"Was I so awful that you had to seek out the company of another woman? Did you find my company that repulsive?"
"That...that's not true..."
"Get the fuck out of my house. I never want to see you again!"
Sihtric opened his mouth to protest but she held up a hand, silencing him. His shoulders slumped, and with tears in his eyes, he turned away from her. He brushed past you on his way out and something in your heart cracked just then. You had to stop him somehow, you thought to yourself. You had to fix this. You had to fix them.
You sprinted after him, stopping him just as he was about to step out the door, tugging on his hand.
"Father..."
Sihtric's eyes softened as he took in your forlorn form.
"I-I'm sorry darling."
"Father, don't go. Please, please, please, don't go," you tugged on his hand more insistently, eyes beginning to well with tears.
"I'm sorry."
"Apologize to her. Please, just apologize. Say you didn't mean any of it. She'll forgive you, I just know she will, she loves you. Just, please don't go."
"I...I can't, I'm sorry."
"Is that all you can say?" your voice rose in frustration. "Is that all you can do? Apologize? If you're really sorry, you'd try to fix it! Please...please, please, please fix this."
Sihtric smoothed a hand through your hair, his touch tender. He brushed the tears from your cheeks and you shook him off angrily. You felt like you couldn't breathe and the walls were beginning to close in on you. Everything was falling apart and you had no idea how to fix it.
"Father, please. Please don't go. Please don't leave her, don't leave us."
"I'm sorry, but I have to go."
With one last solemn look and a pat on your head, he was gone, and as you stared dejectedly at his disappearing back, you felt as if the world had been pulled out from under your feet. You wondered if he'd ever return.
Suddenly, you were interrupted by a pained wail and your head snapped in the direction of your mother's room. Fear seized your heart as you hastily made your way back to her side. She was slumped on the floor, curled in a fetal position, hands wrapped around her knees as her body shuddered with sobs.
"Mama!" you ran to her side, gingerly putting your hand on her shoulder.
She didn't seem to acknowledge your presence, a low keening sound coming from her throat.
"Mama!" you shook her shoulder a little harder. "What's wrong? Are you feeling sick? Should I call for someone?"
Your mother shook her head, still wailing. You waited a few moments, before wrapping your arms around her frail shoulders and helping her sit up. You were just smoothing her hair back when suddenly she turned her head to the side and retched, emptying the contents of her stomach right there on the floor of her chambers. She groaned in pain then, clutching her stomach wearily.
"Shhh, it's okay. You'll be alright, mother. Let's get you to bed," you whispered.
You had already put down your own grief, locking it away somewhere unreachable. You had to take care of your mother first, and you couldn't afford to be distracted. You allowed her to take deep shuddering breaths before wiping at her mouth with the back of your sleeve and helping her to get settled back in her bed. Almost all her weight slumped onto your small frame when you moved her, and you grunted with the effort. Then you ran to fetch a bowl of water to clean her face with, pressing a cold cloth onto her forehead to ease her suffering a little. She seemed to vibrate with pain and you didn't know if it was the emotional toll of your father leaving or the physical pain of her sickness.
Eventually, she drifted off to a troubled sleep as you continued to run your hands through her hair. You kissed her forehead and felt her relax a fraction and you felt your heart lift with hope. You left her side only to clean up the sickness from her floor, before returning to curl up in bed beside her, wrapping your arm around her waist as you held onto her tightly, as if afraid she'd disappear.
The next morning, she was running a fever. Her skin was scalding and she only opened her eyes for a few moments to mumble something incoherent to you before drifting off again. That is when the panic began to set in. You were just about to head out to fetch Eadith when she arrived at your door herself. She had a sympathetic smile and pitying eyes as she let herself in and set about checking up on your mother. She had heard about yesterday's commotion, almost everyone in Rumcofa had. It was a small town after all.
"She'll be alright in no time, love. Don't you worry about her, she is a very strong woman," she told you kindly.
You nodded, and then hesitantly, you asked her the question that had been plaguing your mind.
"Where's Father?"
Eadith's lips thinned, "He...he has gone with Uhtred and the others."
"Oh."
"I can stay here until your mother feels better," she offered. "You are much too young to care for her on your own."
You were just about to nod when your mother chose that exact moment to wake up.
"No!" she blurted out, her voice hoarse. "I-I would not want to impose."
Eadith squeezed her hand gently, "It would be no trouble at all. Please."
Your mother shook her head weakly, "It is just a little fever. I'll feel better in no time. You have children to take care of, and your husband isn't even home. You must go back to them. I'll be just fine."
"But-"
"Please," your mother pleaded. "I'm no invalid. I can take care of myself just fine. And besides, I have my darling here to keep me company."
She stretched out her hand which you took immediately, letting her pull you close.
Eadith looked unconvinced but after your mother insisted several more times, she nodded. She left you with a few herbs and medicines to give to your mother depending on her various symptoms and promised to return the next day to check up on the two of you.
"Mother..."
"Yes, my love?"
"You'll be alright, right?"
You were cuddled up next to her, but still, the house felt strangely empty. She felt like a wraith beside you, like she could leave any minute and then you'd truly be left alone. You could feel her bones through her thin nightgown and you clutched her tighter, as if you could hold her together.
"Of course, I'll be alright, my love," she pressed a kiss to the crown of your head.
"Promise me. Promise me you'll be alright. That you won't leave me!"
"Oh, I wouldn't leave you for the world. You mean too mu-" her words were interrupted by a fit of coughs.
She pressed her sleeve to her mouth and it came away tinged with blood. She pulled it away quickly, folding the sleeve up so that you could not see and you pretended that you hadn't. The two of you spent the rest of the day in bed, with you reading to her as she swam in and out of consciousness. Every time her eyes would flutter open and see you, her face would relax and she'd kiss you, as if trying to impart a lifetime's worth of affection.
Her health took a turn for the worse later in the night. Her fever had greatly worsened and although you had given her all of Eadith's medicines, nothing seemed to help. She was still awake though, so that was some comfort.
"Let me go get Eadith please," you begged her.
"No. We will not bother her now. The hour is late and she said she'd come by tomorrow anyways."
"But Mother! You seem to be getting worse. Please, please you need to see someone!"
"I will not make a fuss at this hour. I'll be just fine. I just need to-"
A fit of hacking coughs overwhelmed her once again, blood pooling at her lips. She was too weak to hide it and instead allowed it to trickle down her chin. You wiped at it hastily, eyes filling with tears of frustration. You yearned to rush out and fetch someone right away, but your mother kept a vicelike grip on your arm.
"Mama, please," you begged again.
"I-no-"
She was having trouble breathing. You could tell. She sucked in air through her mouth and it rattled painfully in her chest. Every breath hurt her and all you could do was helplessly watch.
"You...you know I-I love you right?" she wheezed suddenly.
"What?"
"I...I said I love you, my darling girl."
"I love you too Mama," you whispered.
She pulled you close and you rested your head on her chest. She massaged your scalp with her fingers, whispering more sweet nothings into your ear. You felt her voice grow softer and her breathing slow down. Perhaps she'd sleep it off, you thought to yourself. Yes, she'd sleep off her fever and be right as rain in the morning. You entertained yourself with such thoughts as you drifted off as well.
You jolted awake sometime later in the night, some unknown panic clawing in your throat as you bolted out of bed.
Your mother had stopped breathing. You had felt it. You had felt the stillness of her next to you. You shook her, slowly at first, and then more frantically.
"Mama! Mama! Mama wake up!"
She remained listless, her limp frame rattling like a bag of bones as you shook her harder. Your pleas grew louder as well, your voice rising with every moment that passed.
"Mama, please. Please, please, please. Please don't leave me. You promised! Remember, you promised that you wouldn't leave me!" you screamed. "You can't break your promise. You'd be a bad mother if you broke your promise...please, I am begging you don't go."
Reality set in soon. Her skin had grown cold. It was clear that she had been gone for a while. You swore at yourself for not waking up sooner, for not going to someone for help earlier, for not doing something. Eventually, you slumped down, throat raw from screaming. The house was indeed empty now, and your mother was a wraith. Your grief was your only companion and it was a quiet needling thing, stripping you raw and ragged from the inside. you wanted to scream but no more sound would come out. You would have to fester in dark silence it seemed.
In a daze, you wondered if you should go get someone now. It made no sense to, not anymore. What could anyone do now? They'd just come to take her away and then you'd never see her again. You saw how what they did to the dead. They were often burned. Soon there would be nothing left of your mother but ashes. Your mouth tasted like ashes and you had the sudden urge to throw up. Seven years was not nearly enough time to spend with one's mother. You thought you'd have a lifetime.
You decided not to bother anyone then. You wiped your own tears and lifted the blankets to curl up next to your mother's body, clinging to her, perhaps to share your own warmth with her or perhaps hoping that she'd share her cold emptiness with you. At least then you would receive some relief from the burning agony that lit your heart. With broken syllables, you hummed your favourite lullaby to her, the one she always sang to you, and in that moment, pressed against her ribs, you could pretend that the hollow thud in your own chest came from hers instead.
You did not know how long you remained there, in the space between wakefulness and sleep, the space where dreams felt like reality and your mother's arms wrapped around you almost as tightly as yours were around her. You did not notice the sun rise in the morning or set again the next evening. The only thing that jolted you out of your reverie was the sharp knock on the door.
"Anyone home?"
It was a familiar voice.
"Hello? Sophia's mother sent me with some things," Aethelstan called out from the door, knocking again. "She apologizes for not being able to come herself but something urgent came up."
He said your name a few times too, puzzled at the lack of response.
You ignored him. There wasn't anything he could do either, and Eadith's medicines would not be of any use anymore. You burrowed deeper into your mother, raising the covers over your face. If you ignored Aethelstan for long enough maybe he'd leave, and then you could be alone with your mother again.
It worked for a while and no one else bothered you for the rest of the night. However, the next morning there was a larger commotion at the door. Several fists pounded on the door until eventually, they had to break it in. It gave way with a loud crack, and still, you did not acknowledge their presence. The loud voices were inside the house now, as they rummaged through all the rooms of the house, the heavy footsteps growing closer until they finally reached your mother's room. Still, you did not acknowledge their presence.
Someone said your name, softly at first, and then more insistent. You ignored them. Then suddenly, the covers were ripped off the bed. The sunlight accosted your eyes and you winced. Someone swore and the room burst with activity.
"By the gods, is she alright? Are they both-?"
It was your father's voice, you realized indifferently. He was finally back.
He said your name again, more insistently, and you shook your head listlessly, face still tucked into your mother's neck. That minuscule movement was enough though, to confirm that you were still alive. Strong arms peeled your mother's arms back to lift you out of them. It was at that moment when you truly came alive.
"NO!"
You screamed, a terrible ear-piercing shriek. They were your father's arms, as they pried you away from your mother and you shrieked even louder, flailing about desperately. You were downright feral, clawing and biting to get back to your mother.
"No. Let me go! Let me go back to Mama! I want Mama!"
Several other hands joined your father's in pulling you away. All your father's friends were there, Uhtred and Osferth, and even Sophia's father, Finan was there. They all looked at you with pitying eyes as you thrashed harder, body contorting wildly. Your mother's fingers were clutched tightly in yours and it took several minutes for them to peel you off.
"Don't take her away!" you howled. "She promised she wouldn't leave me! You can't take her away. She wouldn't break her promise, she's not a bad mother!"
"Shhh, darling, she's gone," it was Eadith's gentle voice that broke through your frenzy.
Sihtric handed your writhing form to her and you immediately slumped in her arms. You did not have the heart to bite and claw at her, not after all she had done. She smoothed her hands over your face gently.
"Oh, you poor darling girl. I'm so sorry, I should have come earlier," she mumbled softly.
The time after that was a blur to you as well, lost in your grief and rage. Your mother had only been dead a month before your father married again. You were almost certain it was the woman he had been seeing when your mother had caught him, but you couldn't bring yourself to care anymore. The true fury came when he moved her into your house. The house your mother had died in, the house that you had died in. At first, you refused to live with them. It would be a mockery to your mother's memory, to live in her house with your father and his new whore. That was what she was to you anyways, you never acknowledged her as his wife. Eventually though, even you felt bad imposing on Sophia's family. Despite Finan and Eadith repeatedly assuring you that you could remain with them forever if you wished, you allowed your father to take you home.
The next few days passed by in a haze and you barely recalled any of it. In the days leading up to and after your mother's funeral, you stayed with Eadith and her family. In any other circumstance, you would have been delighted to spend your days with Sophia, but you spent most of your days curled up in bed. You refused to eat anything, despite Eadith's best efforts and you never spoke a word. You especially refused to see your father, turning your head away from him every time he came to visit and speak to you.
The next few years passed by quickly as well. Once a lively and energetic child, you withdrew into yourself, but the silent simmering heat burning you from the inside remained. The only people who could ever draw smiles from you were Sophia and Aethelstan, and try they did. They had made it their collective mission to see you in happier spirits. You no longer took fighting lessons from your father, instead joining Sophia's lessons with Finan or Aethelstan's with Uhtred. The chasm between you and your father grew as he began to have more children with his new wife. You watched him be affectionate with them and the bitterness began to poison you from the inside out. You made your disdain for his wife very obvious and the feeling was mutual. You looked too much like your late mother for her to be comfortable in your presence. That paired with your constant reminders that she was the other woman and had only been able to acquire your father because your mother had died, meant that she went out of her way to make things difficult for you. As your father was often away fighting, she ran the household. She made you clean up after your younger half-siblings and do all the chores in the house. Often you escaped, slipping out to spend time with Sophia and Aethelstan, but that meant another screaming match when you returned home.
Despite your bitterness, you couldn't find it in your heart to hate your half-siblings. By the time you were twelve, you had three. Two brothers and a sister. Your brothers were timid and easy going while your sister was a spitfire. She reminded you of yourself sometimes, often when you sat down to brush the tangles and mud out of her hair as she returned from another grand escapade. You were afraid of yourself sometimes. You were afraid that the poison inside you would come spilling out and taint them. They were innocent, blameless in their conception, and you could not blame them for the sins of their parents. Still, the resentment was difficult to erase. Watching your father spend time with his new family, you felt like an outsider. it felt like watching someone else's happy family through the window, watching how the warmth lit up their eyes while the wind hollowed out your bones and filled your lungs with ice.
Your father was patient with you, painfully tender as if that would make up for what he did. He never raised his voice at you, even as you threw fits and screamed at both him and your stepmother in the first few years you lived with them. He was kind to you, just as he was with your half-siblings, but the distance was there. He'd avoid looking at you for too long because looking was a painful reminder of what he had lost. Everyone had always said that you were almost an exact carbon copy of your mother, and that was both a comfort and anguish. He treated you as if you were fragile, prone to breaking at any moment. You supposed you were. You felt it yourself sometimes as if you were on the precipice of doing something terrible, of releasing years' worth of resentment in one explosive moment. Your grief walked hand in hand with madness and buried things had an awful way of haunting you.
Your breaking point came when you were just shy of your fifteenth year. Your stepmother had made you scrub the entire house clean to prepare for your father's return from yet another fighting season. You had done just that, but after you had finished, your sister had run into the house, tracking in mud and debris from the outside. You hadn't been able to clean it up again in time and when your mother returned from her errands, she screamed at you for being lazy and irresponsible as usual. She screamed at you all the time, so that wasn't what made you lose it. It was when she raised her hand and slapped you. The blow came as a surprise and you tasted blood. One of the rings in her fingers had cut you, and your lower lip trickled with crimson. You saw red then as the blood roared in your ears. You let out a string of the worst profanities, calling her all manner of insults. It was your unfortunate luck that it was at that moment that your father chose to return.
"You will not speak to your mother that way!" he roared.
"She is not my mother!" you screeched. "Do not ever disrespect my mother again by comparing her to this whore!"
Your father uttered your name, his tone tinged with a warning.
"Apologize to her," he muttered. "You do not get to speak to her that way."
"Do you even know what she did? Do you even care? No of course you don't. All you care about is your perfect new wife and your perfect new kids. You don't give a fuck about me, just like you didn't give a fuck about my mother!"
"Mind your manners! I am still your father!"
"I'd rather have no father at all than one like you! You killed her, you killed my mother. I wish you had died instead. In fact, I hope your next fight kills you!"
Your stepmother gasped dramatically and your father flinched. His expression grew thunderous and he lifted his hand, almost instinctively. He pulled it back down to his side almost immediately but the damage was done. You looked at him incredulously.
"You would raise your hand at me?" you whispered in disbelief. "Your whore already hits me at every opportunity, and now you would do? Maybe you should...maybe you should just beat me to death. Maybe it's me who should have died with my mother so that I could at least be with someone who cared about me."
"I-no...I didn't mean-" Sihtric stumbled over his words.
You didn't wait to hear his explanation, stomping out the door and sprinting away. You took refuge in the forest, slumped against your favourite tree as you sobbed. Your wish to remain alone went ungranted as you heard the sound of leaves crunching as someone approached you. A familiar voice mumbled your name.
"Go away, Sophia!"
"You can't just push people away when you're angry you know."
"I can, and I will."
"Not me," Sophia came over and knelt on the ground next to you. "You can't get rid of me!"
You raised your head to look at her, eyes still swimming with tears, "Why are you here?"
"I saw you run out of your house and head this way. Seemed wise to follow you."
"You can't follow me forever."
"I can certainly try. Now tell me what happened."
You sighed and then straightened up, recounting your story to her, your voice taking on a sharp edge. Sophia nodded sympathetically, and then she pulled out her handkerchief to dab at your lip gingerly.
"I'm going to leave!" you said suddenly.
"What?"
"I'm leaving," you said again, more firmly. "I can't stay here anymore."
"You...you can come to live with my family? You know my parents adore you."
"No. I can't stay here, in Rumcofa. I can't watch my father live happily ever after with her new family and I can't watch that horrible witch erase all signs of mother from that house. I can't do it, I won't."
Sophia's brow wrinkled in concern, "Where will you go?"
"Anywhere has to be better than here. I know how to fight, I can go anywhere."
"I don't think-"
"Don't try to talk me out of it Sophia, I've made up my mind. I'm going to go and I'm going to leave tonight?"
"Tonight?" her eyes widened.
You nodded, "They won't be looking for me for a while. They'll think I got angry and stormed off to your place as usual. That gives me some time."
"What'll you do if they do look for you?"
"I'll be long gone by then."
Sophia was silent for several long moments, pondering something in her head. Then, her eyes lit up and you recognized her expression as one she usually had when she had an idea.
"I'll come with you!" she blurted excitedly.
"What? No!"
"Yes!"
"Sophia, no!"
"Come on, it'll be perfect! We'll explore the world together. And besides when have I ever not been by your side? Trust me, you need me."
You gaped at her as if she had grown a third eye.
"Are you insane? You have a family. A family who adores you and they would be extremely worried if you just disappeared like that."
"Technically I could say the same about you but it's clear that you're in no mood to listen to anyone. It's final, I'm coming with you!"
"No, I can't let you do that."
"Well, I can't let you go on your own."
"But...your parents...?"
Sophia looked pensive for a moment, "They'll understand. And you're like a daughter to them too. They'll be worried about you so I'm sure they'd be happier knowing we're watching out for each other."
"But you can't leave them!"
After several more rounds of back and forth between the two of you, Sophia jutted out her chin stubbornly.
"If you refuse to let me come with you, I am going over to your father right now and telling him you're planning to run away!"
"What? You can't do that!"
"Watch me!"
You were silent for several minutes, and then you nodded hesitantly. Sophia's face split into a grin immediately.
"What about Aethelstan," Sophia winked. "Can't leave him behind. Who knows which fair lady of lovely Rumcofa he might take as his companion if we're not here to keep him company."
Your face warmed immediately at the thought of your friend. He had been one of your best friends but in the past years, your feeling for him had grown into something else, something more. You were too much of a coward, and too consumed with your bitterness to examine those feelings. You had simply buried them somewhere deep inside where they'd never see the light of day. You shook your head frantically.
"We can't tell Aethelstan!" you whisper-yelled. "He's the son of the king and Lord Uhtred's ward. There'd be a whole search party after us if we take him."
Sophia's smile dropped as the reality of what they were about to do set in.
"But...but we can't leave him behind. Should we at least tell him where we're going?"
You shook your head again, "No. He'll only try to talk us out of it."
"But-"
"If you're coming with me, we have to do things my way."
"That's not fair!"
"Then stay here. Where it's safe and familiar, and things are fair," you shrugged.
Sophia sighed and nodded eventually, "Alright, we'll do things your way."
And that was the beginning of a different life. The two of you left that very night, creeping out of Rumcofa using one of Sophia's father's boats. You had insisted that she write her family a note, telling them that she was safe. you also forbade her from mentioning you in her note, although everyone had known the two of you long enough to know that where one went, the other surely always followed.
The next few years passed quickly, and both you and Sophia had made quite a name for yourselves and had amassed a small army of sorts. You had formed your own family of sorts, a band of fellow women who had run away from varying circumstances, brought together by fate. Your group of shieldmaidens was famous for protecting villages from raiders. You had taken care to travel far enough that you never ran into your father or any of his men, and over the years the fear of getting caught had worn off.
You had first heard about Lord Uhtred's fight to retake Bebbanburg through one of your messengers. After much deliberation, you and Sophia had agreed that it would only be right if you joined the fight. Lord Uhtred had always been kind and had taken care of your family ever since you could remember. You remembered him visiting and asking after your mother's health and it was your duty to help him retake his birthright.
Your army of shieldmaidens did not hesitate to volunteer to fight by your side. They trusted you to lead them and they would stand with you no matter what. You wondered if you'd see your father there. He had to be, he was one of Lord Uhtred's closest friends and if he was still alive, he'd be right there by his side. With a pang of regret, you remembered the last words you had said to him. You had wished for his death and you desperately hoped that the gods had not granted your immature selfish prayer. The years had cooled your anger and you were no longer as bitter. All the women you had met and the stories you had heard made you realize that there were worst fates out there and the sting of poison that ran through your veins became dilute.
The fight itself was long and hard and you lost quite a few women, all cherished friends and companions. Everyone lost someone in the fight and after all the brave warriors had been honoured and sent on their way to Valhalla, everyone gathered within the newly conquered castle walls to celebrate Lord Uhtred's victory. You had been able to avoid facing anyone you knew so far, but now, as you sat in the corner, allowing Sophia to bandage your injured arm, you could see Lord Uhtred and his men make their way toward you both.
Finan greeted you first, with a broad grin and a clap on your shoulder. Sophia turned around at his presence and when she saw him she squealed with pleasure.
"Father!" she crowed, throwing her arms around him.
He wrapped his arms around her and lifted her, twirling her slightly, like the used to when she was a child.
"My girl is a warrior now," he boomed with laughter. "And leading your own army too."
Sophia's smile turned sheepish and she let go of him and lowered her gaze.
"I...I'm sorry Father. I'm sorry for leaving..." she muttered.
Finan took a deep breath and then exhaled, sighing. He shook his head and patted his daughter's shoulder gently.
"We will speak of that another time. For now, it is enough that you are safe and whole, and that you're home. You had us very worried you know, your mother especially. She was inconsolable."
"I am so sorry, Father."
As you watched Sophia and her father walk away, presumably to go see her mother and the rest of her family, your eyes stung and you blinked quickly, holding back the sudden onslaught of tears that threatened to spill. You felt bad that Sophia had to leave because of you, but more than that, you felt a pang of hurt at the thought of no one missing you. You had no mother who would be inconsolable at your loss. You busied yourself with the bandage on your arm, not realizing that Uhtred had left as well, leaving you alone with your father.
Sihtric cleared his throat and you looked up at him in surprise. Both of you were silent for several long moments, neither knowing where to start. Your eyes charted the planes of his face. He looked older, with tired lines around his eyes and mouth. He seemed to have a perpetual furrow in his brow. Now that you had seen him, you were hit with an overwhelming wave of relief. His battles had not taken him from this earth, he was still alive.
"I...I am sorry."
It was you who had mustered up the courage to speak. You looked him in the eye as you did, shoulders back, eyes blazing with defiance as if daring him to rebuke you. You waited for him to turn his head away, to make some sort of cold remark or something of the sort. He didn't though. He just stared at you and you felt rooted to the ground. Then, wordlessly, he stepped closer and pulled you into his arms. You froze in his embrace and he just held on tighter. You could not see his face but you felt his shoulders tremble and you wondered with some disbelief if he was crying. You patted his back awkwardly.
"I'm sorry Father... for everything."
Sihtric shook his head and when he pulled away you saw the tears that had tracked down his face and soaked into his beard. He cupped your face with aching tenderness and pressed a kiss to your forehead.
"I thought I had lost you forever," he whispered. "I thought I would never see you again. You didn't even leave a note."
The tears you had been holding back fell now, and you forced yourself to harden your eyes.
"I didn't think you'd care," you shrugged.
He thumbed the tears from your face, "I am sorry. I am sorry I ever made you feel that way. I understand if you can never forgive me but you have to know how truly sorry I am. I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you if you let me. Please let me. Please come home."
You avoided his pleading gaze, instead letting your eyes fall on your fellow warriors.
"I have another family as well now. They need me."
Sihtric's face was crestfallen but he nodded, "Of course. I am proud of you, you know, more than you can imagine. You have become a most fearsome warrior and I am proud to call you my beloved daughter."
"I have another family...but you will always be my father," you finally said. "The first family I ever knew. You will always have a part of my heart."
It was you who fell into his embrace this time and you could feel his joy in the way his arms wrapped around you.
"I understand that you have another place now, but know that you will always have a place with me, should you ever wish to return," he mumbled and then he hesitated. "And...you should visit. Your siblings have missed you dearly."
"I suppose a visit won't hurt."
Sihtric chuckled and pulled away, clapping your shoulder, "We have much else to talk about, I have much else to apologize for...but for now, I think there is someone else who wishes for your attention."
He gestured toward the tall boy watching you from across the courtyard and when you caught his eye, his eyes turned cold and he turned away.
"Ouch," you muttered.
"The two of you left him behind," Sihtric explained. "You cannot blame the poor boy for feeling hurt. Now go, make things right."
He nudged you toward Aethelstan's disappearing form with a wink and he was gone before you could question his action. You turned around to make your way toward your friend, waking fast to catch up.
"Aethelstan!" you called after him.
At first, you thought that he didn't hear you because he didn't turn around, but then he started to walk away faster. He walked right out the front gates and into the field beyond. You dropped your sword in the grass and chased after him.
"Damnit Aethelstan, slow down!"
Your words only spurred him on, but by now you were fully sprinting after him. You caught up in a matter of moments, grabbing his arm to pull him to a halt. He kept his back to you so you circled him, meeting him face-to-face for the first time in years. His eyes remained glued to the floor you crossed your arms in frustration.
"You won't even say hello?" you asked furiously.
He did not respond. You pinched the bridge of your nose and sighed.
"Go away," he finally muttered, his voice sharp. "I don't want to talk to you."
"No, I will not! Why are you running from me? You were my dearest friend, and now you won't even look at me."
Aethelstan's eyes finally met hers, burning with emotion, "You're no friend of mine!"
You flinched, "Hey...that's not fair."
"Friends don't do what you did. Friends don't abandon friends!"
"I never wanted to hurt you," you pleaded, reaching out to him but he took a step back, avoiding your touch. "I had to go."
Aethelstan shook his head, "I don't want to hear your excuses. You told Sophia and took her with you, but you didn't even bother leaving me a note? You clearly didn't think of me as a friend so why should I?"
"I couldn't take you with me. You know that."
"You could have at least asked. You could have at least let me know!"
"It all happened so fast, I didn't get a chance. I-I am sorry."
"Don't bother apologizing. You don't owe me anything," he shrugged. "It won't change the past."
"No...but it's a start. I should have told you that I was leaving. I should have explained why I had to go. I never meant to hurt you, and I'm truly sorry for the pain I caused."
"You treated me like I meant nothing to you. Now you have to accept that you're nothing to me."
Tears welled up in your eyes, "You mean everything to me, Aethelstan. You're my dearest friend, and I never wanted to lose that."
"You left without saying a word. We were supposed to share everything. But you abandoned me, just like that. How dare you say that I mean something to you?"
"Please..."
Aethelstan shook his head, his eyes firm, "We are not friends. Not anymore."
"That's not fair!" you protested, voice breaking. "After all these years, after everything we've been through together, you're going to dismiss our friendship like it never meant a thing?"
"It's the truth. I can't forget the way I felt. Do you even know what I went through on my own, without you there."
The two of you stood there, locked in a tense silence. You refused to give up, your determination fueled by the urge to make things right with him, no matter what it took. You felt desperate. You couldn't lose him. Not when you had spent every day of the past few years thinking about him.
"Fine," you said finally, voice steady and shoulders slumped. "If you don't want to call me your friend, then I'll respect that. But I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me one day. Please, give me a chance to fix this."
Aethelstan did not respond, expression guarded. You nodded, mostly to yourself and turned around, starting to walk back to where the others were. Disappointment churned in your gut and you felt sick. You had quite possibly ruined one of your most cherished relationships due to your own stupidity. You pressed your lips tightly against each other to prevent them from trembling. You knew that he did not owe you forgiveness. Whether or not an apology was accepted was entirely up to the person one had hurt and if Aethelstan decided never to forgive you, there was nothing you could do about it. Just the thought of it made your heartache.
Just then, a hand landed on your shoulder, making you stop in your tracks. You turned out, bewildered. Once Aethelstan caught sight of your reddened face, his eyes widened.
"What's wrong with you? Why're you crying?"
You hastily swiped your hands under your eyes, shaking your head, "I'm not."
He raised an eyebrow sardonically, "You have always been a terrible liar."
You shrugged.
"I don't know if I can forgive you," he admitted after several seconds of silence. "But I'll try."
Your eyes brightened and your lips lifted upward. You weren't a hopeless case after all.
"But I don't think we can ever be friends again," he quickly pointed out, making you deflate again.
"Right. Of course. I understand. I'll take what I can get and you are under no obligation to...to be my friend. Just your forgiveness alone is enough."
Athelstan watched you with a peculiar expression, halfway between amused and concerned.
"I don't think I can go back to being just friends with you."
"By the gods, I know! You don't have to keep saying it like it'll hurt any less."
He outright laughed then, and you bristled. You glared at him.
"What I meant, silly girl, is that I can't go back to being just friends when I think of you as more than that."
Oh.
Oh.
"Yeah," he reached out to brush the tears from your lashes. "So stop moping about like it's the end of the world."
He turned around and jogged back to the courtyard where everyone was gathered, leaving you to marvel at the latest development of things on your own.

・Trusting other's wasn't easy for Uhtred. Well, until a person saves his life.
・It didn't seem like a big deal at the time. The decision was easy to make. With four men against thirty, it was more than an unequal fight.
・Standing out of sight, you grabbed one of your silver-tipped arrows and aimed.
・The leader of the large group of men faltered in his step. His gaze trying to locate the source of the arrow, which had landed exactly where he was about to step.
"Hiding is cowardice," the man bellowed. His thick furs unable to hide his fear.
With a raised eyebrow you huffed, not taking the obvious bait.
・You saw one of the men raise a dagger and as he was about to throw it, you released another arrow. Straight into his shoulder.
・Then the fighting started. It only took ten minutes for it to stop.
・You didn't just have great aim with an arrow, you were deadly with daggers as well.
・Now years later, you're found by Uhtred's side. Where he goes, you go. There isn't an issue with him bringing you along on his travels - he knows you can look after yourself.
・A favourite of Finan's, Osferth's & Sihtric's. As you were the only person Uhtred would listen to. Truly listen to.
・And allow himself to be told off by.
・So the three men think you are some sort of powerful being.
・Osferth actually had a bit of a crush on you for a while. Whenever you spoke to him, he would blush.
・Finan and Sihtric teased him relentlessly, and Uhtred overheard them one evening. But he was not jealous. Not in the slightest.
・Osferth nearly died on the spot when he heard Uhtred speaking though.
"I think anyone could fall in love with them. They make it so easy."
・However, it did take a while for Uhtred to tell you about his past. A long, long while. It came in little packages. As if he couldn't say too much at once.
・Showing emotion wasn't one of his great strengths
・But gods forbid if anything happened to you
・There was a time that you had been kidnapped and he nearly tore himself apart trying to find you. All logical thinking had disappeared.
・He knew he couldn't live without you, but knowing that it was a possibility, hit him like a physical blow.
・You are his heart, the person that he always wants to be around. There is no him, without you.
・For years he did not know what his destiny was.
・But now he knows.
・It's you.

・Uhtred is a giving and passionate lover. As soon as you get time to yourselves, his hands are holding you tight against him. Lips attached to yours in a firm and feverish kiss.
・Behind closed doors is where you see Uhtred's full abilities.
・It's not as if he cannot please you while travelling, it's that he cannot reach the limits that he can when he's able to be fully naked and without interruption.
・At home, with the warm glow of the fire in your joint chamber, he shows you how much he loves you.
・Your naked form underneath his, chest to chest, heart's beating in the same rhythm.
・If you've been apart for a long time, then Uhtred cannot keep his hands off of you, nor can he endure your clothing. Sex is rougher, slightly quicker, but that doesn't mean once is enough.
・No, once is never enough for Uhtred.
・There never goes a night without him at least making you cum. Thrice.

Pairing: Sihtric x reader x Finan ✩࿐
⋆。˚☾⋆。𖦹 °✩ wc: 5.9k
note: I'm sensing a pattern arising where the reader is related to Uhtred in my writing pffft I just love it lol. this fic is a bit shameless of me tbh, consider Sihtric and Finan to be your mindless Kens in this.
summary: Sihtric and Finan do not take kindly to your attitude after they catch you with another warrior, leading to a night filled with confession and obsession. ✧˖°
MDNI! 18+ ⋆.ೃ࿔*:・TW!: mentions of potential assault, period-typical misogyny, mentions of blood, pining, F/M/M, oral (male receiving), p in v, slight domination etc
You had been resting all day, abandoning any duties that had been bestowed on you by Beocca or the others. Osferth had been with you for a while, but had run as soon as he saw some of your lady friends approaching, fearing that they would hassle him. Though he was sweet, he was incredibly oblivious, a trait that had gotten him into serious trouble - and by default, you too.
It was always you that seemed to be involved in some kind of dilemma, Uhtred's sister, clumsy and short-tempered. You always likened yourself more to Brida, wanting to follow in her wild, mildly assaulting ways with people. Ragnar cherished you, but always decided that Uhtred would be able to keep you safer, as he had a mixed band of trustworthy individuals.
You wandered in the nearby woods, collecting random flowers that interested you and occasionally stuffing them in-between the threading of your dress, which by now was soaked with a layer of mud from the terrain beneath your feet. Thyra had warned you not to arrive back too late. You knew that you shouldn't be too long, not on your own like this, but for now, everything in Uhtred's world seemed remarkably peaceful. For someone who liked to play with Alfred's commands, this was a miracle.
You revelled in your own company for a little longer, feeling your heart stop when your peace was finally disturbed by hooves. Before you turned around, you feared the worst, that it was some enemy of Uhtred's come to claim you and sell you for ransom. Fingertips going cold, you rested your thumb on the hiding place that you usually kept a small blade in, feeling its absence and cursing wildly.
Shit.
"And why do I find you out here all alone, lady?" you vaguely recognised the voice to be Gudrun, one of your brother's warriors and somewhat of a childhood acquaintance. You turned swiftly, to find the man looking down at you from his horse. He was handsome in his own right - but you had often seen him night after night sitting with a cup of ale, and whatever company he could find for the night. You did not blame him, finding yourself at the mercy of ale from time to time, but wondered why he squandered his talents on such wasteful hobbies so often.
"Please don't let me stop you on your journey Gudrun, I wouldn't want to slow you down," you began to dismiss him somewhat, feeling a fool for straying so far from the village with so little to protect you. You knew he was one of Uhtred's men, but the company of men was a tumultuous one.
"Not at all, Y/N. In fact, I can think of no better way for my journey to be disturbed," he smiled rather darkly, a tone of strange flirtation in his voice. You assumed he was harmless, relaxing a little as you accepted his compliment. You wanted Uhtred to come behind him at any moment to protect you, but he had his own children and wife to worry about now, so you were forced to remain.
"That's too kind, Gudrun, where are you headed?"
"To Lunden, just on some small duty. It's nothing serious. You should accompany me, lady."
You grimaced at that, knowing what had occurred at Lunden not too long ago. Gudrun seemed pleased at your discomfort. You felt bad for characterising him as a brute, wanting to remain pleasant to him, but you had observed how he was with his women before, often leaving them bruised and in need of comfort.
You politely refuse, wanting to be done with the situation, but then he dismounts from his horse, the poor thing jolting slightly. You watched the animal relax, returning your gaze to the much taller man who now hovered above you, blonde hair cascading in layered pieces around his face.
You stood your ground when he spoke. "Are you sure, pretty? I would not want to leave you out here alone, where any man could claim you for his own," he whispered, forehead practically touching yours as he took a few steps closer. You didn't like what he was saying, cheeks burning with his words, feeling your own brows furrowing. You were perfectly capable of defending yourself, or at least you thought you were.
Uhtred's best men and your closest friends, Sihtric and Finan, spent hours with you teaching you basic movements of defence, and when you were in the company of Brida and Ragnar, which wasn't often, you often challenged them to silly fights that you had occasionally won.
You didn't think before you shouted at him, "have the weight of your disgusting balls dragged your brain down with them? Or did you not hear what I said?"
You realised all too late that you had escalated the situation, watching the surprise on his face grow into anger, stalking backwards as you realised Gudrun's intentions may not have been as pure as you once thought. You didn't want to cause Uhtred any more unnecessary problems or create new tensions, but the way Gudrun was now staring at you reminded you that you were truly at his mercy.
"Those are such vulgar words for a lady like you, Y/N. I could have your tongue for that, but I can think of a better use for it first," he grinned, closing in on you. Your back quickly hit a tree, and you felt an immediate flush of nervousness. Nevertheless, it quickly subsided, and you allowed yourself a moment to breathe, readying your next words carefully.
"What would your mother think of the way you speak?" you were quick to spit in his face, acutely aware of the danger you were putting yourself in, but strangely loving it, "have the women around you not civilised you? Not taught you manners? Or were you raised by wretched wolves?"
Slipping away from under him and past the tree, you had expected to make somewhat of a swift escape, but Gudrun grabbed you before you could even think, his entire hand encircling your arm, squeezing until you felt yourself going cold, a tear making its way down your cheek.
"So stubborn for such a pestilent whore," he returned the favour, spitting onto your cheek as he bared his teeth at you, almost growling, "so stupid. I was taught how to treat a woman, and I will show you-"
Before he could continue, the scene was disturbed by more galloping, and the unsheathing of a sword. You recognised the voice that you heard next to be Finan's, and you resented it.
"Gudrun, what the hell do you think you're doing? Is this what you call being a warrior?" He shouted, immediately dismounting from his horse, sword in hand. He looked at you, eyes swimming in concern for you, which you returned with a scowl. You hated that he had come to your aid, and what was worse, you could see Sihtric coming towards the three of you as well.
Normally, you would be happy to see the two of them, but not on this occasion. The three of you had become incredibly close as things had settled down. Before, they had always seemed too busy, but over the year they had sought your company more and more. But their attention meant a watchful eye was always on you. As Uhtred built his family, you thought you had escaped your scoldings, but to no avail, the two of them always had something to say.
And now they were saving you. As they always seemed to do when you were in trouble. It infuriated you; feeling so inferior to the both of them, hating the way they coddled you as though you were some sort of child. You wanted them to see you as a woman. The whole situation made you act in a way you weren't entirely proud of.
"Finan just leave this, I can handle myself," you yelled, feeling shame run through you as Gudrun still gripped you tightly, not allowing you to go anywhere as you pulled and thrashed, practically kicking him. You wanted to literally sink into the ground when you felt Finan's eyes on you. He stood in all his seriousness, but knowing that he would win this altercation with Gudrun, there was also a hint of amusement.
"I'd listen to the lady, Finan, just leave me with her tits and I'll be finished."
Sihtric, who until now had been quiet, looked at you disapprovingly, which only spurred you on further. You loved him at the best of times, but the feeling of inferiority was eating you alive. You kicked and scratched, watching as Gudrun's sword went from pointing to Finan to pointing at you, its sharp end slightly piercing your arm.
"You bastard!" you practically screamed, but it fell on deaf ears. Sihtric, always careful, stepped slowly to your left, as Finan moved to your right, dominating Gudrun's line of sight.
"Go on, Gudrun, go to Lunden, spend all your money on women as you always do, forget this one," Sihtric taunted, rendering your own words invisible as you saw how Gudrun reacted. It seemed as though you had lost your voice. You huffed, wriggling further in his grip, which caused his sword to pierce you even more, drawing blood.
Finan tutted, looking over the both of you to Sihtric, as though they shared an invisible sort of signal that had you torn from Gudrun in seconds. Now you felt yourself in Sihtric's arms, binding you to him. Finan wasted no time, stabbing Gudrun's leg, leaving him there. He whispered something in Gudrun's ear, most likely a warning not to come back , which you thought was wise.
Just as quickly as he had finished with Gudrun, Finan stormed over to you and Sihtric. You hated to admit that Sihtric's grip was warm and welcome, and relief had you practically melting into him, but you knew what was to come.
"How I've missed your childish insolence," Finan remarked, smiling despite your very obvious scowl. Sihtric, however, was more serious, tending to your arm as blood seemed to pour from it endlessly. "You were naive to think you could take him, Y/N, you should not have further endangered yourself." He was quiet, raising a cloth to your wound, pursing his lips as the fabric quickly soaked into a dark mess.
"I had no choice, what would you have me do? Let him take me right then and there?" you knew you were digging yourself a deeper hole, ripping your arm from Sihtric's grasp, letting the cloth he had been holding fall to the floor.
"You know what Sihtric means. You shouldn't have to reason with him, I know, let's just be glad the prick is passed out." Finan kicked the unconscious body of Gudrun, which rocked, but did not muster. Finan looked at you, sensing frustration. He understood you, that you had been placed in an impossible situation, but they had truly only wanted to help you.
The three of you had briefly explained to Uhtred why he would be missing a man from now on, and with that you avoided Sihtric and Finan like the plague for over a week, much to their mutual dismay.
Both Sihtric and Finan sat on a table outside of the ale house, Osferth off somewhere training whilst Uhtred had gone to help Gisela with the children. Left to their own conversation, which was usually a blessing to the both of them, they began to talk about you.
You who hadn't been seen leaving your own home in days other than to bathe or eat. You who used to wander so recklessly, spending days in fields and forests with whoever you could get to join you.
They missed you pestering them with silly questions of battle and fighting, how you observed them with awe when they told stories of their lives before they had met you. Your innocent eyes no longer lit up in front of them, bringing them a pure sense of life after days of death and destruction.
"I must have left my mind on the battlefield," Finan muttered, Sihtric responding with a quiet grin as he sipped on ale. He knew what Finan was saying; the two of them had gained somewhat of an understanding over the past few days, realising that they both had feelings for you.
"Just what the world needs," Sihtric responded, looking at Finan, "two men in love with the same woman who speaks to neither of them." They both chuckled, refusing to let such a thing come between them.
"Something needs to be done, we can't just sit here like miserable bastards." Finan spoke, giving Sihtric a knowing glance. Sihtric scowled as he usually did, wanting to act entirely irrationally but holding himself back for the sake of everyone in the village.
As if their prayers had been answered, you came stumbling out of your home not even seconds later, in full view of the ale house and the two men you sought. Sihtric and Finan, you mentally scoffed.
Your frustration had been brewing for an entire week now. How embarrassed you had been at your outburst, and at your rejection of Finan's help and Sihtric's aid. You were equally as furious at the constant prominence of men in your life. They were everywhere all at once, consuming you, believing they could take whatever they wanted from you.
But what was even more sickly was that you missed your two friends dearly. Playing stupid games of stones with Finan who laughed at the most utterly unfunny things, and Sihtric, ever the affectionate friend, always one step ahead to ensure your safety. You felt like a fool for not realising that you liked them. You really liked them.
You set your sights on the hall and the ale house, where you knew they would surely be, stomping over as if it were your birthright. Once you saw the two of them sitting outside, you recognised their smiles. Wanting to make that short lived, you struck the back of their heads at the same time, plonking down onto the bench nearest to them.
"Y/N-" Sihtric began, but you held up a finger in his face, wagging it infuriatingly.
"No. You must listen to me. I am thankful for what you did to help me with Gudrun, and I'm sorry I haven't reacted as though I were. I was merely upset that a man felt he could do such a thing to me, and that I couldn't do anything about it without help," you didn't even manage a breath as you continued, "I just don't want to be seen as some kind of incompetent fool that needs to be saved. And what makes it worse is that I wanted to teach you both a lesson by being independent, you slugs!'
"Y/N, breathe." Finan chastised, causing your eyes to widen.
"Shut up and let me finish!" you stomped your foot, aggravated by his pretty smile and the way he seemed to unconsciously reach for the hem of your dress to play with. Sihtric also amused you for a second, his expression one of deadly seriousness as he listened to you intently.
"There's more I could say, but I just think I'd rather we go back to normal," you huffed, slightly annoyed at their downcast expressions, "and against all of my judgements about men, I've found myself pining pathetically for the both of you."
"Well, sorry for inconveniencing you so much, lady." Finan smiled, simply thankful that you were back on speaking terms with them. Your anger sat well within him though, and they didn't want to take advantage of the moment, not when your point was very much valid.
"We will teach you to be a great warrior, Y/N," Sihtric smirked rather proudly, punching your arm, to which you responded with a slap and a request for ale. Looking down at your hands, you briefly missed the longing look that the two men gave you.
Another week had passed, and the two men still hadn't confessed to you of their true affections, but the three of you understood that there had been some sort of shift in your relationship. Uhtred had been called to and from King Alfred's company once or twice, leaving you absent of your friends for a few days.
This didn't bother you at all, in fact, you were somewhat relieved from the break. Gisela kept you busy, with walking and games that Beocca had gifted her, you had even swum once or twice with her, entirely free and content. But when she took up her motherly duties, you were free to roam as you pleased, ignoring all civilisation as you wandered further and further from the village.
It was hours later that you returned, feeling anything but fresh, with some cuts and bruises from when you had decided to climb up a tree to take an hour's rest. Much to your dismay, you were not very good at climbing trees.
You hadn't even been entirely sure where your brother and the others had been sent to, as they were constantly marching north and south for some reason, but you had not expected to see them all gathered in the centre of the village walls when you returned from your own rough excursion.
Uhtred ran to you, picking you up in a forceful hug, laughing at your state. "I see you do not know how to stay out of trouble, Y/N. You limp like a fat man!" His shining eyes were somehow swimming with both excitement and exhaustion, and you returned his affections, realising he most likely needed them.
"I see things went your way this time, Uhtred." you let him hug you for just a little longer, sensing he must have faced great struggle to be so affectionate towards you. "How was everything?"
"Fine, sister, fine. I faced nothing quite as fearsome as you." Uhtred allowed his fondness for you to take over him for a moment, glad to be reminded of home and family. You rolled your eyes, patting his shoulder and letting him return to his children.
The air caught in your throat when you finally saw both Sihtric and Finan, talking casually with a few other warriors in the corner. They were dirty, even bloody, furs and capes draped over their enormous frames, sharp faces laughing as they were finally free from duties for a little while longer.
Finan spotted you first, a smile growing on his face as his arms opened warmly to greet you. He had removed the straps clinging to him, so that his sword fell to the floor. You walked slowly towards them, head tilted to the side when you welcomed Finan's embrace, not wanting to say too much as you felt his grip tighten.
You opened your scrunched eyes briefly to see Sihtric next to the two of you, placing a gloved hand on your head, patting it slightly. You blushed at the way he looked at you, realising you had been staring slightly too long, and that Finan had been hugging you for a while now, chin resting on your head.
Finan took you in, your once clean dress swimming in mud and loose leaves. Your braids unravelling slowly, a tad of mud on your face. You looked like you had gone on the journey with them. But, as he stared into your wide eyes, he thought that you had never looked more beautiful.
"I missed the two of you," you finally spoke, words hanging in the air. Sihtric looked down, grabbing your hand and holding tightly. Finan busied himself by fiddling with your braid.
"We missed you. I swear I saw Sihtric cryin' at one point, poor rat was devastated to leave our weakness." Though he spoke in an amusing manner, his eyebrows remained firm, and his smile did not last. The tension was ripe.
"Hey, Finan was the one telling all the men about you. Uhtred nearly had to send him away," the Dane responded, lightening the tone, but confusing you even more. They had been talking about you as their weakness, missing you, and now they couldn't stop touching you in some small form. Why didn't they just do something?
You knew they were polite men in their own regard, and that it would be up to you to initiate something. But what you didn't know, is that once you did, there would never be any going back. The two men wanted you so desperately; they had been discussing logistically how two men could share one woman forever, and had come to the conclusion that they simply just would. Now they were bursting at the seams waiting for you to say you wanted it too. They needed your confirmation.
"You should both come to my home," you said to them, shuffling your feet in the direction of your house. Gisela had taught you a little something about seduction whilst the men had been away, and you wanted to be the one in control of the situation. For now, at least. "For food, I mean. And drink."
"I never knew you could be such a kind hostess, Y/N." Finan said, pulling Sihtric towards him. You scoffed, squinting your eyes at him which caused him to stick out his tongue, a slight chuckle from Sihtric.
They had been to your house plenty of times, even staying over sometimes with Osferth or even Uhtred when they wanted peace and quiet. But this time, something in the pit of your stomach told you it was going to be different. You trotted quickly as they prowled behind you, already knowing the way themselves.
You felt their eyes burning holes into the back of your head as you stood at your door, the two me hovering over you, heads above you. You fumbled a little with the door, sighing in frustration.
"Take your time." mumbled Sihtric, surprising you slightly. Your face burnt like molten lava, and you refused to look at them. The two men gave each other a knowing look, a sense of unfinished business hovering in the air.
Sihtric's words affected you more than you had realised, his soft, deep voice reverberating in your head. You felt a hand on your shoulder, unaware as to which of the men it belonged to, and before you could control your reaction, a minuscule whimper came shooting out of your mouth.
Thankfully, you managed to regain consciousness for the moment and opened the door, ignoring any consequences of the sickly noise you had just let out. Little did you know, the noise had stirred Finan's cock, and Sihtric had had to take a deep breath to control himself, nostrils flaring.
You were teasing them, and you had no idea. Soon realising you had actually promised them food, you decided to make good on that, telling them to sit down, where some meats and a little fruit and bread were waiting. You took a moment to breathe, unable to focus on anything but their figures as they passed you and made a point of touching you as they did.
After some normal chatter, you realised that they weren't eating. At first you thought the food you had brought to them was sour, but upon further inspection of them, you began to fidget in your seat. They were practically ogling you, Finan's eyes carrying a sort of apologetic lust, whilst Sihtric gazed at you as though he was drunk.
A shiver ran down your spine, which caused you to fidget even more, hands picking at your dress. This movement did not go unnoticed by Sihtric, who took this as the perfect opportunity to initiate what you were all clearly thinking,
"You are cold, Y/N, you should come closer," his lips parted, and he truly felt in this moment that the Gods had gifted him with some kind of angel, as you stared open-eyed at him. He felt himself getting impatient, reaching out to you with an open palm when you stood hesitantly, like some sort of animal trapped between wolves.
Finan seemed to enjoy this, stretching back into the chair as you made your way to Sihtric, accepting his hand, not entirely sure on what to do next. After a moment of lingering, Finan answered your prayers with a simple "Sit, Y/N."
Sihtric groaned when you finally placed yourself in his lap, staring into his dual-toned eyes, unable to keep his intimidating gaze for longer than a second. Though you knew in reality he was a sweetheart, in this moment, he seemed dangerous.
Before you could lower your chin, Sihtric gripped it with his rough fingers, forcing you back up to face him, his other hand sliding down to your backside. He did nothing for a moment, each movement incredibly slow.
Other than the crackling fire in the corner of the seating area, all was silent. You realised your braids had unravelled entirely now, wild hair hanging loosely around your face. You hadn't realised how close Finan was until you saw him behind you, standing above you and Sihtric, a tight grip on your loose hair forcing your face even higher. The way he looked down at you, eyebrows furrowing and seemingly glazed with lust, you almost couldn't take it.
"She likes this," Finan muttered, Sihtric humming in agreement. You gasped when the iron grip tightened, forgetting that you were in the presence of two of the greatest warriors in the realm. It turned you on to no end.
Sihtric took advantage of your open mouth, sliding a finger inside, the others holding your chin still. You sucked on the digit rather insatiably, to your own embarrassment, unable to be satisfied until it was soaked and you yourself were drooling onto his trousers. But just as the moment was getting good, as they always did, they found a way to chastise you.
This had been a long, long time coming.
"You must never ignore us like that again, lady," Finan said, "I mean, could you not have just spoken to us? I imagine that would have been a whole lot easier."
The patronising tone had you feeling mildly embarrassed, but the sickly sort of degradation came with sweet caresses, so you managed to forget your pride for a moment.
Instead, despite the grip in your hair and the fingers in your mouth, you nodded, moaning profusely as your eyes rolled back when Sihtric forced another finger in.
"I'd ask for a verbal answer, angel, but I see that probably won't happen." he observed sarcastically, finally loosening his hold for just a moment, your head lolling to the side, wanting to be closer to the both of them. You were rather ashamed of the mess they had turned you into in a matter of minutes.
The feigned sympathy on Sihtric's face was infuriatingly attractive, so much so that you found it within yourself to quickly nip his fingers as he was removing them from your mouth, earning a genuine smile and a strike to the thigh, which was now exposed as your dress had bunched up.
"We own you now, Y/N," Sihtric finally spoke, voice barely above a whisper, "We both own you. You are our woman to love." That was all the confirmation you needed.
As quickly as you could possibly manage, you were kissing Sihtric, barely remembering to breather as you moved rhythmically on his lap, lips disconnecting and soon returning to a forceful kiss with Finan. You were beside yourself, wild like some kind of animal as you felt Sihtric on your neck and Finan on your lips.
It was all too much, and the feeling in your arms seemed to give way, not helping your case as you began to push the both of them.
"What do you need, love?" Sihtric asked, entirely ready to give you everything you needed. If only you could find the words. You didn't answer as Finan worked some sort of sorcery on your neck, sucking and biting just where you felt the most sensitive. "I should not have to ask again."
Sihtric's eye contact became so strong that you immediately cowered, any snide comments you had exiting your brain for the moment.
"Please, please just do something, take me," you panted, Finan's subtle laughter doing nothing to stop your whining. With that, you were transferred into Finan's arms as Sihtric rose, removing unnecessary leathers and protection, leaving himself only in his tunic. Meanwhile, Finan so gracefully laid you down on the bed of furs, your head leaning against the headboard.
"My lady," he half joked, quick to join Sihtric in the removal of his clothing. You followed their lead, untying the laces at the back of your dress with great effort before letting it slide off, kicking it to the ground.
"God," Finan stood staring at you, at your breasts, watching as your skin reacted harshly to the cold. You were drowning in the furs around you, your naked body like some sort of holy piece that priests would surely covet. Sihtric was by your side in seconds, bare chest colliding with your own skin, ecstasy rushing through you.
"we shall have to keep you like this forever, lady." Sihtric wasted no time in fulfilling your pleas, fingers inside of you before you could react, so filling and long, reaching every crevice inside of you. The welcome intrusion was heightened by Finan's body on your other side, playing with your clit, rubbing over and over until the stimulation became unbearable.
A void inside of you had been entirely filled, and your two friends were now wrapping you slowly around their fingers. A part of you wondered what Uhtred would think, whether he would welcome the strange union or dismiss it altogether, but there was no time for that, not when Sihtric was pumping into you, whilst Finan methodically worked his fingers, making you scream.
"Poor thing," Finan drawled out, watching your trembling frame as if it was pure entertainment. "Should we give you what you want? I think we should." Without consulting you, he simply looked at Sihtric, who seemed to have different ideas.
"I don't think she deserves it, I think that temper needs to be controlled a little more." You flinched as his fingers curled inside of you. Finan gave you an apologetic glance, and you couldn't believe he was listening to Sihtric in this moment . . .
"But!-"
"No," Sihtric mumbled, and Finan saved himself from your glare by hiding his face in the crook of your neck, his finger's methodical patterns becoming slower and slower, delaying your release. You were becoming numb at this point.
"Perhaps things could change if you told us who you belonged to?"
You grunted as you were kept on the edge, feeling constant resistance, and unable to admit your feelings. That was until Finan pinched your clit, and Sihtric slapped your inner thigh, rubbing the red skin as he worked himself in and out of you slowly.
"mmfph"
"Who?"
"Sihtric," you breathed, "And Finan."
"Good," Finan moved now, quickening his pace on the outside whilst Sihtric also followed through on his promise, "good girl".
That was all you needed, the praise making your chest blister and ache. It was intoxicating, being able to come entirely undone beneath the two men, feeling them observe you, kiss you, worship you.
"Our turn now."
One of them mumbled. You weren't entirely sure, blinded by your orgasm, feeling muscles in your thighs twitch as your back arched off of the bed. Before you could even come down, You were flipped onto your stomach. The action was nothing to the two men, so strong they could barely feel the effect they had on you. They made you feel weightless.
Finan couldn't help himself, gripping your ass so tightly you felt like it would bruise. The skin ached when he gave it a small pinch, enjoying your jolt into Sihtric as he kneeled close to your face, petting your hair as he often did, except never in this context.
A kiss to your forehead drew you back into consciousness for the moment, but it did nothing to distract you from Finan's actions behind, his cock now trailing up and down your sex, an agitated grunt coming from the Irishman.
"Good god," Finan muttered, no longer uttering some quip or joke, instead relishing in the feeling of the both of you two against one another. Your softness did something to him, tore deep inside of him; a man so consumed with life of battle did not deserve something so pure, he thought.
On the other hand, Sihtric felt like a God himself. His thumb returned to your mouth, feeding the oral fixation you didn't know you had. "Will you take the both os us?" He taunted you, asking you questions while he filled your mouth. The thought of them both intimidated you, and you shuddered when Finan aligned himself with your entrance, slowly pushing in before you could even think.
"Yes, yes, yes," you chanted like a mad woman, drool slipping past your lips in excess amounts, pleasing Sihtric, whose thumb was soon replaced with his thick cock. It slid straight to the back of your throat, slowly beginning to match the pace of Finan's thrusts.
Though Finan was attempting to be gentle, he did not recognise his own strength, apologising out of habit when you squealed. The sound was muffled by Sihtric's cock, his pelvis now hitting your nose. Both men shared a look above you, in silent agreement, realising this is exactly what they wanted in life. You.
In all of Winchester, nothing had more of a pull to them like you did. Not even Uhtred's command would keep them away from you now.
"Fuck," Finan practically spat, his hips quickening their pace, his long cock coming inside and outside of you, feeling the tightness grip harder and harder until he was nearly coming.
Sihtric equally had his way with you, hand in your hair simply moving you as he pleased, loving the way your tongue lolled out to welcome his cock.
"You are so beautiful, lady." Finan moaned, head facing the sky as if in prayer. It did not take much longer before he was coming undone within you, cursing as he realised he had selfishly come before both you and Sihtric.
Sihtric gave one final stroke before he too came straight down your throat, a choke coming from you as he waited before moving out of you. He decided that he wanted to take you next.
"Swallow."
His final command had you tightening around Finan, disturbing him from his moment of meditation with great force. Gritting his teeth, Finan barely managed to keep his composure as he finally slid from you, both men letting you slump underneath them.
Exhaustion hit you with a sharp thump, and your eyes began to close before you could say anything to the two men above you. Your eyes glazed over as Finan turned you onto your back to face them. They towered over you, Finan smiling, assuring you he was only trying to help when he let go of you for a moment, going to fetch a rag.
"When can we bind you to this bed? I want to keep you here forever."

she’ll have the world if she wants it
uhtred ragnarsson x fem!reader, 1.9k words tw: pregnancy, canon typical violence, blood, kidnapping, general worry and distress a/n: this was requested by @elbereth-bluebird! i started writing it as soon as you sent in the ask, so i apologize for it taking me forever to finish. i love uhtred.
The confession slipped through your lips before you had half the gall to stop yourself. Eadith stared at you with wide eyes, lips slightly parted as she glanced over your shoulder. The men continued on laughing over the fire, ignoring you for the time being. Osferth stoked the smoldering embers as Sihtric threw on a few more pieces of wood, bringing the fire to life once more.
Uhtred was all smiles, glancing your way—not that you saw. Your eyes were glued onto Eadith’s face as terror spread through your body.
It was as if time itself had stopped, mocking you for the confession that had left you moments prior. Did you anger something far greater than mortal life? Surely not.
But the look your dearest friend gave you made you think otherwise.
Would she tell? No.
You hoped not, anyway.
"You are with child?" she repeated, hand raised over her mouth as she whispered. She could never be too careful (the men liked to eavesdrop every now and then, even if it were to just be reading lips—Finan had a knack for that, but she only figured it out recently). "And the father? Does he know?"
"No, and—and I do not want him to find out. Not now." You fidgeted in your seat, tension eating at the back of your throat as you fought the urge to cry. This could ruin him. This would ruin him, and he wouldn’t ever look at you the same.
Eadith reached forward and took ahold of your hands, worry akin to the fire that raged close by. "Who..." she trailed off, thumbs gently brushing against your knuckles as she searched your face.
You looked away from her, skin burning as your nerves ran through your body. You did not need to say anything to your dear friend. She would know with a response like that.
Him.
"Oh," she breathed out, a smile forming soon after. "Had I'd known, perhaps I would have given the two of you more privacy the other night—"
You slapped her arm in retaliation, eyes wide. "Eadith!"
She let out a soft laugh. The realization that it was indeed him made it all the better. You would be taken care of, even in the worst of winters. When the summer days came, sun glaring down and burning your skin, he would be there to lend a hand.
He was good for that, if not anything.
"When you decide to tell him, he will be elated. I promise you, my dear friend. A child is a gift,” she said.
You may not have found it within your heart to realize this, but she knew all was well. He would never let you want for nothing.
You clenched your jaw. You couldn't tell him. Gift or not, there were other pressing matters at hand.
Between King Alfred and the constant threat of war, you were certainly an afterthought; a hump to keep his mind off of things for the night.
You loved him; you did. You had known it for some time now, and it had blossomed the first time you saw him. Perhaps it would be safe to say he was the love of your life, even if he would never see you in such a light.
Perhaps that is why you knew you needed to keep it a secret. He was far more than you and the child that had begun to grow inside of you not too many moons ago.
"Promise me," you said, voice lowered back to a whisper. "You mustn't say a word of this, Eadith. I... will once I am ready. But for now, the time just isn't right."
"I will not say a word," she said, placing a hand over yours. "Your confidence in me will stay strong, Y/n."
You gave a faint smile. "I know."
It all happened so quickly.
The Danes had arrived well within the night, and while some were able to escape safely, many did not. Confusion was high as they couldn't understand how they found them; Uhtred had found a place to camp that should have been safe. And yet, there he stood, looking at the destruction in front of him, the blood of slain men soaking the earth. They had left nearly as soon as they arrived; a warning, perhaps. A raid on a camp that was meant to entice fear in Uhtred's very soul. A warning for the English King that waged war against them.
But Uhtred worried little about that. King Alfred could deal with it when the moment came for him to act. He had proven that time and time again, almost to the point of downright annoyance. No, the trivial act of war enticed him little at this very moment, especially when all of his friends had been accounted for, save for one.
The only one that mattered far more than his brothers—than the ones he spilt blood with.
You.
Where were you? Where had you gone? He hadn't found you amongst the bodies that littered the grounds.
Perhaps he had overlooked you, and you rested off to the side of the bloodbath with Eadith. Or maybe, you did lie amongst the dead, waiting for passage to the afterlife.
If only he could think straight—maybe then he would find you.
Eadith left the sanctity of her horse, and Finan, searching for you—her dearest friend. She looked at the bodies, the untouched tents, the people still alive and well.
When she couldn't find you, she ran to Uhtred, calling his name.
"Have you found Y/n? Have you seen her anywhere?" Her voice came out in a rush—panicked.
Uhtred shook his head. If she hadn't seen you, then the only other place you could be would be with the Danes that came.
You wouldn't have been the only one taken, but perhaps you were the most important. They weren't there just for a warning. They were there to send a message that would shake Uhtred to his core. They had his lady.
Lost in his thoughts, he barely reacted when Eadith grabbed onto his arm.
"My Lord, she is with child," Eadith said, heart pounding in her chest.
Uhtred's head snapped back to look at her.
"You are not in earnest," he retorted, staring at her in disbelief.
She pursed her lips, hand still gripping his arm. "I am, my Lord," she said. "She told me just last night. I swore to keep it secret, but since she is missing—"
"—my Lord!"
Sihtric's voice came from behind the two. Uhtred looked over his shoulder, eyes wide. The Dane pushed a nearly unconscious man to the ground, scowling.
"He hid amongst the trees, but he will talk," he said, chin held high as he looked at Uhtred. "He will lead us to the Danes."
Uhtred clenched his jaw, moving away from Eadith. "Wake him. They have Y/n."
It couldn't have been more than a few days. The Danes that had captured you hadn't touched you. In fact, a woman came around, saying something about how because you were Uhtred's woman, she wouldn't do anything to you. Unless Uhtred never showed. He would know where to find her as soon as he realized it—perhaps as soon as he found the bait.
He wanted a deal, she had said. Something that would benefit both of them in due time.
But perhaps this Dane had the wrong Lord. Uhtred never took kindly to his men being killed, and he wouldn't take kindly to whatever had happened that night.
You had only managed to see a blur of blood and the sound of screams still plagued your mind, but beyond that, you knew nothing.
You knew not of where you were, or who had captured you. You just hoped that wherever Uhtred was, he was safe.
For now, you would be, too.
You hoped.
The gods had looked upon Uhtred the morning he infiltrated the Danes' base. It looked as if he had opened a slaughterhouse (especially when they began to fight back), but he cared little about the blood spilled.
The fool who had captured you bore a gruesome reality—Uhtred wouldn't hear him out. He had little regard for those who took what was rightfully his.
As soon as the man took his last breath, he turned to look at his trusted men.
"I'm to find her," he said. "There shall be no more blood spilled, unless they give you trouble. Keep guard until I return."
With a simple nod from Osferth, Uhtred was on his way.
And when he finally found you, high up in the fortress tower, the relief he felt was immense. He had never known his heart to be filled with such joy, seeing you alive and well.
You stood from your small bed, eyes wide as you watched the blood-covered Lord walk in, watching you and taking you in as if you'd disappear once more in the blink of an eye.
"You are fine?" he asked.
At your nod, he couldn't help but smile.
"You are with child?"
Your lips parted as you stared at him. He knew. He knew, and he had come to rescue you. Uhtred was rescuing you. You nodded once more, and the man met you where you stood, his arms wrapping around you. He pressed a soft kiss to your forehead, unable to stop himself from smiling.
"Let us leave," he said. "We have a long journey back to Coccham."
"Coccham, my Lord?" you question, looking up at him curiously.
He smiled. "I do believe it proper for a woman to find comfort in her time of need," he said. "I plan to see it through."
You fought the tears that sprung to your eyes as you buried your face in the confines of his chest.
He rubbed circles on the small of your back, smile disappearing as he stood there, holding you.
“You were not going to tell me?” he softly asked, peering down at you.
Your head tilted back, eyes locking with his. “When the time was right. I would have.”
“And you are lying to me?” he raised an eyebrow as he spoke, lips pursing together.
You fought the urge to roll your eyes, heat blossoming on your face as you pulled away from him.
“May we leave, my Lord?” you asked, holding out your hand to take ahold of his. “I am growing quite tired of these quarters.”
He chuckled softly and took your hand in his. “Yes. We’ve much to discuss on the way.”
The sight of your friend was a beautiful thing, indeed—up until the realization that she told Uhtred the one secret you had begged her to keep.
“Eadith!” you exclaimed, pulling your hand away from the careful hold of Uhtred.
He just watched with a smile as you went to your friend, looking towards his own.
“You’re to be a father, then, hm?” Finan grinned, slapping his shoulder as he spoke.
“Not for the first time,” Osferth interjected, arms crossed over his chest. But he smiled at the man, nonetheless.
“Will you marry her, Lord?” Finan asked as Sihtric came over to the bunch, wiping dried blood off of his face with a damp cloth.
“If she’ll have me,” Uhtred said.
Sihtric rolled his eyes, a scoff escaping him. “You’ve to hear the way she talks with Eadith. She will have you. No question, Uhtred.”

The Last Raid
MASTERLIST
Summary: You are a norsewoman, a Viking shieldmaiden from Norway, you were riding with the brothers Erik and Sigefrid, when Uhtred takes back the princess the army disbands, and you go on your own.
Pairing: Osferth x Shieldmaiden!lreader
Warnings: TLK AU, war, death, smut, profanity, religious themes, pagan rituals, and much more
Wordcount: 1.5 k
Notes: Is this a story? or a one shot? nobody knows hehe
The army of Danes that you were riding with had been annihilated, completely destroyed by the army of King Alfred and the command of Uhtred the Daneslayer, that is what you got for making an alliance with the Danes, you should have stayed with your people, with the Vikings from the North, from Norway.
After someone in the middle of the fight hit you in the head, you fell limply in the middle of the battle, when you regained your bearings, you could only see what was left of your “army” running for the hills, leaving you alone.
So you decided to go your own way, you didn’t fit with them anyways, but now you were alone, you luckily had time to gather your things, your horse and your weapons before the camp was completely destroyed. You rode until you came across a huge river, you didn’t have a clue of where you were, but you needed to wash away the blood from your enemies and the dirt from the fight.
You haven't come across anyone so you gathered you were alone, so you discarded your coat of mail, the leather shirt underneath, your boots and your thick leather pants, you only left the long shirt to cover in case someone did come along. You didn’t even have the heart to undo your braids.
You let yourself relax as you cleaned your face from the dirt and dried blood, you even submerged your head under the water, and when you emerged you let yourself hear the birds chirping from afar and even though the water was freezing, it was beautiful, calm, peaceful.
Were you going to try and make a life here like your grandfather had intended? you were growing weary of the fight, you wanted to settle, to plant, to farm, to have a house of your own with a big hall in which you could gather your friends and family… which you were lacking.
If you came close to one of those Saxon villages, would they let you stay? Would they give you a job? or would they hate you and pursue you for being a Viking?, the only settlement the vikings from Norway had in England had been destroyed, to find more of your people was going to be difficult…
You were so deep in your own thoughts that when you noticed the presence behind you, it was too late. You turned around quickly and you tried to run to shore, to your belongings, to your axe and sword, but a smiling man stood right by them, his hand in his own sword, so you took a step back, in fear.
You were still in the water, but you still had something. You extracted a small knife from a Garter you had tied in your thigh, and came face to face with four men. They had singular appearances, they did not look Dane, not at all, but they didn’t look Saxon either.
“She is a Dane, Uhtred”, warned one, that by the looks of him and his accent, was one himself
“Aren’t you a clever one?”, you mocked, “nothing escapes you, except, I am not a Dane”
“With a sharp tongue”, mocked the one who seemed to be the leader
“She is pretty Lord”, said a blonde, with wide innocent eyes and strange clothes, they all laughed, they made your skin crawl and you tightened the grip on the handle of your blade
“Baby Monk fell in love!”, mocked the one that was near your things, perhaps you should take that one first, grab your ax, you could at least take another one with you, they did not had a bow, so, they will have to come close to you to attack you, you looked at the path you were going to need to run by, careful of the sharp rocks under the water. Three long jumps and you could take him…
You took one step and the one they called Uhtred raised his hand, you looked into his eyes and you could tell he had all but read your mind, looking at the path in front of you and then at his man.
“Finan”, he called, and then he also seemed to notice, and he took a defensive position, so your plan was ruined, then you looked at the other Dane, and then at the priest looking one, who would be easier to kill?
“We will not hurt you”, Uthred said, showing you his hands, you were surrounded, and they were four warrior men, you did not believe him
“Four men, one woman, I know how this ends”, you growled, you looked to your knife and even though you wished a glorious death in battle, taking your own life seemed a better choice than to be… taken by these men. So you turned your knife and turned it towards you
“There is not need for that”, said Uthred hastily, truly scared
“I think there is”, you said defensively, holding the knife to your own chest
“We will not hurt you”, their easy way of carrying themselves turned serious, all four men looking at you wide-eyed, “I give you my word”, he said, taking a step back, his men followed him, as a sign of peace, so you relaxed your stance, “who are you?”, he asked, looking at your things
“A Viking shield maiden”, you answered quickly, “From Norway”, you said looking at the one that called you a Dane
“What is your name?”, he asked
“(Y/N), Bjorndottir, daughter of Bjorn Ironside”, his eyes went wide, as the dane’s, he all but wanted to kneel
“Bjorn, King of Kattegat? King of Norway?”, he asked, you nodded, “I’m Uhtred”, he introduced himself
“I know who you are, Uhtred of Bebbanburg, or Uthred Ragnarson, or the Dane slayer, or the Godless”, you listed
“You heard of me”, he said with a mocking smile
“I like to “hear” of my enemies”, you said, “or my leader’s enemies”, you continued
“This are my men, Finnan, Sithric, and Osferth”, he said pointing at each of them, you nodded, acknowledging them
“Why are you alone? I saw you in the battlefield”, said Finnan, “your army is far away by now, or what’s left of it”
“Those bastards left me for dead”, you said simply, “they only wanted me for my influence, that is gone now, along with my respect”, you said quickly, you relaxed the arm that held your knife
“Where are you heading?”, Uhtred asked
“I don’t know”, you answered truthfully
“Where would you like to go?”, he asked then
“First? dry land, I’m freezing”, you said bitterly, and they all seemed to notice, and they took another stepback, Finan walking away from your things and standing by his leader, so you walked to your clothes, drying yourself with your bloodied shirt, and then disposing of it.
“Do you mind?”, you asked, looking at them over your shoulder, and they turned around, so you could dispose of your wet dress, and changing quickly into clothes from your bag
Once you were comfortable, you turned to the men, who turned back to look at you
“So, you have something to eat?”, you asked
Two hours past, a fire was lit, the night had fallen, and you were roasting a couple of rabbits
“Why are you here? Bjorn Ironside is not in this country”, asked Sithric, you looked back at him
“My father is a bastard who left me me as soon as he noticed I was a girl and when he got tired of humping my mother”, you said dismissively, “He is terrorizing lands further than Frankia”, you saw them share looks
“So, why are you here?”, asked Uhtred
“I wanted to make a name for myself”, you confessed, “battles, glory, lands…”
“So, what happened?”, asked Finnan, by his accent, you realized he must have been from that country they called Ireland
“Couldn’t find any of those things”, you said simply, “who would have thought that slaughtering farmers and their families was not going to be as glorious as everyone said?”, you mocked, “I don’t like it”
“What do you want?”, he insisted
“A land to sow, a house to live in… something quiet, but I do like a good fight, I guess… I’m a sellsword now”, you whispered looking at the meat between your greasy fingers
“Pledge your sword to me”, he demanded, “fight for me and you can settle in Cuccham, the lands I’m the Lord of”
“I don’t want to kill more innocent people, or taking things I have not earned”, you said, as terms for your allegiance
“Good, we will not have you do any of those things”, he said, certainly, you barely nodded, “we are not very elite men, Finan here was a slave when I met him, Sihtric if the bastard son of Kjartan, and the baby monk, is the bastard son of King Alfred, turned monk, and now turned sword”
“King Alfred?”, you asked, “And Earl Kjartan?”, they only nodded, “Alright, I like this, a group of misfits, bonded by loyalty, I like it”, you said, clapping your hands, “My sword is yours, Uhtred Ragnarson, as long as you not ask of me anything that will bring me dishonor”
He only smiled, as did their men

"I'm the real man here"
Note: It wasn't a request
Pairing: Osferth x Finan x Sihtric x F!Reader
Warning: Dirty Talk but otherwise nothing really
Summary: Trapped in a village, the lord doesn't want to let Uhtred and his men go, but strange customs reign in this village. You just wanted a drink.
"I wonder when we can leave," Sihtric asked bored, glaring at some of the lord's soldiers. You laughed, "Then when the lord is done flirting with Uhtred"
Finan laughed, and you hear Osferth, who was walking behind you, chuckle slightly. "I think it will take a while," he said softly. "Yes, I don't know much about it, but cock comparisons usually take time, always for you men"
Finan laughed again "Didn't know you knew that much about it" You looked at your bearded friend and sighed briefly "And I wonder why not just pull down your pants and say mine is thicker and longer, here look"
Now everyone was laughing because a soldier walked past you and looked at you questioningly until his face changed, and he crossed himself.
You stopped and saw the man and spread your hands, "Is that so, or aren't your women allowed to talk about cocks?"
The man shook his head in disgust and walked on, noticing Osferth's body behind you as he spoke over your shoulder, "I don't think a woman is allowed to say anything here at all"
You spit because you didn't know why this village was so far stuck in time. Women had to keep a low profile, men had something to say here. But since you were one of Uhtred's entourage they let you get away with a lot, only once you were hit on by a man who said he would show you where your place is, but he didn't get any further because the boys were guarding you and looked menacing. Since then, you have not been dissuaded from speaking as you saw fit.
"I don't know you that well," Sihtric said now, nudging you and Osferth because you wanted to get drunk. You raised your eyebrows, "How?" you asked, amazed. "So, vulgar, you don't usually talk like that"
"Are those men thinking that women aren't allowed to say that and besides, that's nothing compared to what I could say" - "So?" Finan asked, "How could you talk?"
You clear your throat and shake your head and look at Osferth "If I do that, our baby Monk here will turn pink, and I don't intend to." Finan grinned widely as he saw Osferth look down.
"That's not true," he tried to resist, Sihtric grabbed his shoulders, "Of course not. What happened to that whore the other day?" Sihtric asked him and before Osferth could defend himself again, you asked, puzzled, "There are whores here?" all men shook their heads "I would be surprised"
All four of you, stopped in front of the tavern when you saw the soldiers standing in front of the entrance. "Are they just standing there?" You ask quietly towards Finan and Sihtric, both of whom have narrowed their eyes and are now shaking their heads.
You sigh again, never have you had to sigh so much over a village. "What are they guarding?" - "The ale" came from Osferth "whores?" Finan asked, "Maybe they have something special in there?" Sihtric wondered. You just roll your eyes, none of the guys could help you.
You decide to go up the wooden stairs, and you were escorted by the boys, but as you tried to go in, a guard grabbed your arm. "No women," he just said and pushed you towards the stairs, thanks to Osferth holding you, you don't fly them down.
You pressed your lips together, so you didn't say something nasty, and tried to get between them into the tavern again. Again the man held you tight but didn't let go.
With your free hand you grab your dagger and hold it to his privates, "I'm not a woman" you said and saw the man flinch. You are a warrior, you wanted to say, but somehow the words got stuck in your throat.
The other guard went to help, but Sihtric was faster, standing in front of him, stopping him from hurting you. Finan helped him and Osferth, yes, he tried to stop you, so you wouldn't hurt him.
"She... I mean he looks like a woman but believe me he's not." Osferth cleared his throat when you gave him a disapproving look. "God didn't mean it well with him," he said again and nodded to the man.
Who then nodded slightly, looked at the dagger on his privates and probably thought it would be better to let you go. "I... I have a dick, probably bigger than yours" you said.
The man nodded at your words, and you sheathed the dagger as you walked in with the boys, but suddenly everything went quiet.
The woman serving looked like she had seen a ghost, and the men were hurt in their pride. Again you spread your hands and grab your crotch and scream for everyone to hear
"I have a cock," the men behind you tried not to laugh as you went to the bar, annoyed, the woman grinned slightly.
You nod to the woman as Sihtric put his arm around you. "Now that's what I call a show," he said, kissing your cheek. "Stop it, the men might think you're gay" he giggled and looked around.
Some men probably left the tavern because they didn't want to let a woman ruin their evening. "You know, if my husband looks like you, then I like being gay"
You started smirking when Finan started arguing with the woman, no one heard the flirtation between you and Sihtric, even though some of them knew what was going on between you both.
"I want two jugs," Finan was saying, banging his fist on the table. You put a hand on his and smile sweetly at the woman. Her face changed when she looked from Finan to you, and now she smiled.
"We'd like ale" - "Finally there's a real man here," she responded to your sentence, and you briefly wonder if she meant Sihtric. Osferth didn't speak, he simply folded his arms in front of his chest and watched the spectacle.
"You're cute, and I wonder how it really looks between your legs." Sihtric couldn't hold back his laughter, Finan and Osferth were shocked and had their mouths open.
"I have a huge cock" she ran her hand through her hair and grinned, "And how big is it?" You raised your forearm and had formed a fist, just missing Sithric's face.
"As big as a forearm" you nodded to your raised arm. The men at your side had become quiet. Because the woman was blushing and making beautiful eyes at you.
"Well, if that's the case, then there's finally a real man here." She turned around, and you looked at all three men questioningly, but they just shrugged their shoulders.
She put a whole jug in front of you and a mug, "This is for you, so that I may see your mighty cock" slowly you started to nod "Of course, soon"
Finan wanted to grab the jug, but she slapped his hand, "It's only for real men, and you pay like the other dogs here."
You laughed "Thank you my thoroughbred wife" at that she blushed and then started to smile sheepishly. You turn around and want to go to a table.
But again you looked at the woman, "Tell me, dear woman, may I let him drink from my jug here?" She looked at Osferth urgently. "He's still a virgin," you said a little lower, and she started laughing.
She grabbed a mug and put it on the counter. "The poor man" was all she said, and you saw how Osferth rolled his eyes and took the mug and went with you.
"What about us?" Finan asked and then looked at Sihtric. "You pay like all the other dogs," you said, laughing, and sat down with Osferth at a table that had room for four.
"If you weren't so sweet, I would be angry now" he said when you poured the mug for him. "If you weren't you, Baby Monk, where would we be?" you ask, grinning widely as he ponders your words.
The men came to you both annoyed, Sihtric sat in front of you and Finan in front of Osferth. "As big as a forearm? I'd like to see" Finan said and grinned at you while taking a sip of his ale.
"Nah, if you look, he pulls back," you said and all four of you started laughing out loud, which disturbed the other men in the tavern and made them grumble slightly.
But you didn't bother, you sat together for a long time. When you were deep in conversation, the woman at the tavern gave you a small bowl with dried meat and winked at you.
"The way I love it, you busty miracle" you spoke and made her smile with your words. She looked briefly into your empty jug and took it with her.
"Maybe I should learn from you," Finan said, a little tipsy, the ale here wasn't diluted, and it was very strong, so strong that you were all a little drunk.
Too strong for Osferth, he lay with his head on his arms, which he had placed on the table, and dozed off slightly.
"I'm the real man here, maybe I could teach you a few things" you said jokingly when Sihtric cleared his throat. "Don't say that, I wouldn't resist the temptation" he said and blushed slightly, but maybe it was just the glow of the candle, that stood on the table.
The woman came back, a full jug in hand, she put it down on the table "Don't tell anyone you can drink for free here" she smiled as you, you nodded.
Then she came closer to you and whispered something in your ear, startled you looked at Sihtric who raised his eyebrows. She left, and before she went to the storeroom, she looked back at you one more time and gave you that look.
That face that said so much that she was waiting for you and she was ready for whatever was to come.
You grab Osferth by the shoulders "Time to go" you said to everyone and rudely rouses Osferth from his sleep, you grab your mug and jug and left, surprised the boys did the same.
"So why are we drinking outside now?" Finan asked you when you had gone into the barn with them, and you were now drinking your ale together on the hay.
Osferth snuggled up to you and slept peacefully on. "Because that certain lady wanted me to follow her" Finan started to laugh and then became serious.
"Don't say she wanted to see your forearm length cock?" he said, puzzled. You shake your head and blush slightly. "No"
"What then?" asked your Irish friend. You share your free ale with them as you gulp, "She wanted to see my dominance, how I treat women, and she wanted...she wanted..."
"Make you happy?" Sihtric asked and just raised an eyebrow, slowly you nod. "Uff, who doesn't want that?" he said and quickly emptied his mug, you were so speechless at his words that you only took a sip yourself.
You hope not to see the woman again while you are locked up here. You listened to Finan and Sithric joking about it. But for the first time since you were here, you were speechless.

Please, Lord
Lord!Osferth x Servant!Reader
a/n: omg!! sorry this took so long I had crazy writers block all the sudden but I hope you enjoy it!!! (o^^o) I’m going to try to write the first chapter to my OsferthxOC fic before starting my other requests so be on the lookout for that!! :3c
requested by - @slytherincursebreaker
It was no secret that Osferth was a kind lord, often treating his servants fairly and giving them generous pay.
Some might be shocked to find out that the ex-monk had taken one of his sweet little servants to be his bed warmer.
And what a pretty thing she was. He would often wake up first just to simply admire her before she slipped away so as not to be discovered by anyone.
“Osferth...” a quiet, wispy voice pierces through his thoughts.
His orbs are focusing on hers as they peak through her lashes like how the sun currently peaks over the horizon.
“I told you to wake me if I slept too long,” his eyes never leaving her frame as she sat up with a stretch, her own eyes searching the room for her clothes.
“You were pretty tired after last night, so I thought I’d let you sleep,” he responded as his fingertips gently glide across her back.
She rolls her eyes, a smile forming on her face as she stands up.
“stay,”
It wasn’t a command from her lord but rather a plea from a man who felt nothing but love for the maiden who had just left his bed.
“I cannot,” she simply says as she begins collecting her clothes. “You know this.”
“Surely a few more minutes wouldn’t hurt?”
His sweet little secret laughs as she slips on her clothes. “See you at breakfast, my lord.”
Osferth slumps back down against the pillow, a sigh escaping his lips as she leaves the room.
Your day was the same as the last, and the last like the day before. You had a routine that more often than not involved waking up in your lord's bed.
Wake up, help prepare breakfast, serve breakfast, clean, occasionally keep Lord osferth company, sleep, and repeat.
That was your schedule, one that you hoped would never change.
You were often one of the first people in the kitchen; most just assumed you to be eager to please their lord, and they were right in a sense, just not in that way.
Occasionally, you’d break your daily routine to help the new servants with their tasks, helping them get the hang of things before going back to whatever your task was.
Some thought you were a pushover, doing whatever was asked of you, but you were simply returning the favor that was given to you by one of the older serving ladies who worked there before you; her name was Olga.
You often worked with her in the kitchen, much like you were now.
“Lord Osferth seems to have taken a liking to you,” Olga teases as she prepares one of the dishes. Olga was a kind old lady, but she was rather nosy and loved to gossip.
“what?” You shake your head. “No, he hasn’t,” you deny. “He’s just nice." You thought for a moment that Olga was suspecting something, that perhaps you and Osferth hadn’t been as careful as you two thought.
“He’s nice to everyone, darling, but he doesn’t undress them with his eyes." Olga points at you with the spoon in her hand, making a suggestive face.
“Olga!” You gasp with a laugh. “Lord Osferth is a kind man; he wouldn’t do that.”
“Every man does it,” the older woman shrugs. “Look, when you go out there, watch his eyes; you’ll see they never leave you, not once!”
You don’t reply to the old maid, simply taking the plate from her and making your way out of the kitchen with Olga’s words fresh on your mind.
Surely she wasn’t right; you were just his bed warmer, not that Olga knew that...hopefully.
You pulled yourself away from your thoughts as you approached the table.
“Enjoy your breakfast, Lord,” you say softly as you place his plate down, sparing him a glance.
He had already been looking at you; had he been looking at you the whole time, like Olga said? The thought made you smile.
His own lips curling into a smile as you retreat into the kitchen, his eyes never once leaving you.
You woke up with an uncomfortable tension building up in your throat, your face scrunching up as you hold back a gag.
You clumsily wrap a thin robe around yourself as you make haste to find a bucket.
Whether it was your harsh stumbling into the bathroom or you emptying all the food you ate that day into the bucket that woke up a few of the other servants, you weren’t sure, but you were thankful as one of the girls moved your hair out of the way as you threw up.
This happened several times over the past week; you’d throw up just before the sun came out, then get dressed and get to work.
You feared you came down with the sickness; you prayed that wasn't the case and your prayers would be answered.
“I fear you may be pregnant,” Olga had said.
“what?” Your eyes move away from the bowl you had been mixing, over to the older maid.
"No, I am not," I can't be pregnant, the phrase repeated in your mind like a begging tune.
“You’re questioning a woman who's given birth to three children; I think I would know, darling." She said more, but you weren’t listening anymore. Quickly you left the kitchen, letting Olga finish breakfast herself.
I can't be pregnant; you prayed, and your prayers would go unanswered.
You were pregnant. Olga was right; you were sure of it. Between the morning sickness, weird cravings, and mood swings, you were sure of it.
oh god…You barely had the money to take care of yourself...How were you going to take care of a child—let alone the child of the man you worked for? Thoughts like those circled your brain day and night until finally you began to withdraw yourself.
That included avoiding Osferth like the sickness himself, and he began to notice after you barely spoke a word to him when he asked you to meet him in his chambers, then failed to do so twice.
He began to think perhaps he had done something wrong, or maybe you’d grown tired of the arrangement between you too.
He had hoped that wasn’t the case, but you never gave him the chance to ask.
Every time he looked for his sweet maiden, you were nowhere to be found, or you’d dash away before you could be seen.
Osferth had enough.
He was tired of seeing her duck around corners or flat out running away when she’d spot him in the halls; each time he had tried to speak with her, she’d find a way out.
He was sick of it.
The thoughts of how to approach this situation plagued his mind, keeping him from sleeping.
With an aggravated sigh, he swings his feet over the side of his bed, placing them on the floor as he prepares to venture out into the cold halls of the night to clear his head.
‘What did I do wrong?’ He questions as he walks, ‘Why was she avoiding me?’
He was so lost in these thoughts he had almost missed the sound coming from the kitchen. His steps pause as he listens, and again, there was the same sound.
Slowly he creeped towards the kitchen door, peeking through the crack, looking for the intruder.
But he didn’t find one; instead, he found the girl who plagued his mind day and night; he found you.
He stood there for only a moment longer, not wanting to waste this authority that was given to him.
“Why are you up so late?” He spoke up from behind her; despite his voice being gentle, he still startled her in the process.
He watched as she hesitated to meet his gaze, settling to look at the floor beneath his feet instead as she timidly placed her fork down, so that was the noise he had heard. She had gotten up in the middle of the night to...eat?
“My Lord i-“
“Have you not been eating enough?”
She wasn’t sure how she wanted to respond. His question caught her off guard. How was she supposed to answer his question without giving too much away?
He picked up on her hesitation to answer his question, so he asked a different one.
“Why have you been avoiding me?”
Her hesitation only grows, her appetite long gone as her eyes look for something to look at that isn't him. She missed Osferth, even if she tried to deny it, but should she tell him? It's his baby; of course she should...But she was scared; she needed the money, and in truth she had hoped to keep this secret a little longer.
“We shouldn’t talk about this here, Osferth." She whispers, meeting his gaze with a pleading one.
“To my chambers then,” he urges.
The walk to his chambers was awkward to say the least. Your head tilted down, not daring to look at Osferth.
Osferth’s eyes were straight forward, not daring to look at you. Not a word was spoken between the two.
Neither of you wanted to be the first to speak up; both of you were stuck in your thoughts, figuring out what to say.
You pull yourself from the sound of your shoes hitting the ground as he opens the door to his chambers.
“Why have you been avoiding me?” he repeats as they enter.
“I…I'm sorry, my lord.“
“Have I done something to upset you? offend you maybe?”
She pauses, mouth gaping like a fish. “No! No… My lord, you’ve done nothing of the sort.”
“Then why have you been avoiding me? please! I wish to make this right…”
She shifts in her spot, battling with herself if she should tell him. He had the right to know, she concluded.
“Lord,” she whispers, her gaze meeting his pleading one.
“Osferth,” she corrects louder this time.
“I’m… I'm with the child," she admits, her hands anxiously attacking each other.
“Your child,” she clarifies.
Osferth was in shock.
pregnant.
with his child?
“And...and you’re certain?” he questions
She nods, pinching at the skin around her nail.
“And it’s…it’s mine?”
She nods again, her pinching nails piercing the skin as her vision gets foggy, her lip quivering.
How could he let this happen?
A bastard. That’s what was brewing in her belly.
his blood.
His bastard blood passed down onto another.
Thats what he was; all he had been at one point was nothing more than Alfred’s Bastard. There was a time when he was scared that’s all he ever would be; he swore he would never condemn his child to a fate like his, and yet he had grown careless.
No.
He wouldn’t allow his child to face the same curséd life that was forced upon him; he wouldn’t make the same mistake his father had.
Osferth must’ve been silent for longer than he thought because the girl before him began to weep.
“P-Please Lord!”
The cold ground left bruises on her knees as they collided.
Osferth couldn’t tell if she had fallen to the ground in an attempt to beg or because her legs simply gave out.
“Please!” She cried out again. “I’ll leave without trouble once I’ve saved enough money! I won't ask you for anything more!” She let the words tumble from her mouth before her thoughts could catch them.
“No one will know the babe is yours; just please don't cast me out! I need the money!” she babbles
“Cast you out...?” He asks, "I wouldn't...I won’t do that.”
Her frantic begs stop as she looks up at him. “You…you wont?”
Shaking his head, he kneels in front of her. “Never,” he assures her as he places his gentle hands on her tear-soaked cheeks.
"I won’t let you face this alone, not when I'm at fault for it,” he says, wiping her tears before continuing.
"I’ll do what my father could not,” he whispers, “this baby will not be a bastard.” One of his hands moves to cup the back of her neck.
"What are you saying..." She meets his gaze.
“Marry me…” His voice shakes as the words leave his lips.
“…What?”
“Marry me,” he said, with more confidence. "I’ll be a good father; give this baby what I never had,” he promises.
“Please, I love you." He admits, “Please marry me.”
She wasn't sure what to say, too overwhelmed with emotions. She wasn't sure if she was going to smile or cry again, so she did both.
Wrapping her arms around his shoulders, she presses her lips against his in a quick and inexperienced kiss. “Yes! Yes, I’ll marry you!” she agrees.
He cups the back of her head, holding her against him as a smile of his own appears on his lips. He would be a good father, he promised; he’d give his child a life that wasn’t granted to him.

I was wondering if you write for the last kingdom
If u do, could you do yandere headcanons with uhtred ragnarsson
Hello dear. As long as there is information about the character, I will write about the desired character. I hope you like it.
Yandere Uhtred Ragnarson headcanon.
Uthred is a loyal, reliable and responsible man. In addition, he is protective, jealous and possessive. He does not hesitate to put you before everything. He never hesitates to be cruel for you. He often walks around you to make sure you are safe. He will make sure you are well-fed, healthy and happy. He will get rid of rivals without you knowing. He will try not to do actions such as killing or injuring someone in front of you. He does not want you to see him as a monster. He brings you many gifts from the wars that he thinks you will like. He wants to have a large family together. The thought of seeing mini versions of you and him walking around excites him.

Thank the Gods {Sihtric}
Summary: Your husband comes home early, making an attempt to fufill your truest desire.
Husband!Sihtric x Wife!Reader
Word count: 1.2k
warnings: Mentions of smut, Insinuation of smut but nothing is written :)
Your husband wasn’t due home for another week, and you couldn’t help but miss him in his time gone. You worked with Lady Gisla in hopes to find a distraction, helping with her children in any way you could while he was away. Although from Winchester you moved to Coccham as soon as you had married your husband, you found some days you missed the busier streets of the heart of Wessex.
“Where is my woman?” The sound of your front door opening and closing, and the sound of an oh -so familiar voice made you drop the knife on the kitchen counter.
“Sihtric!” You exclaimed, rushing through the house to meet your husband. He dropped his bag by the door and opened his arms, laughing as you hurdled yourself into him. “You’re home! You weren’t supposed to be back for another week!”
“Are you not happy to see me, my love?” Sihtric asked teasingly, placing you back on your feet as he cupped your face between his hands.
“Quite the opposite.” You told him, your arms curling into the hair on the nape of his neck. Your husband smiled down at you, his forehead resting against yours as he leaned in to connect your lips. “I’ve missed you.” You hummed through the kiss, tilting your head to the side as his lips connected with your neck.
“I have missed you every moment I was gone.” Sihtric mumbled against your ear, sending a shiver down your spine. He always had this effect on you, you would bend to his very will if he asked. “I see we weren’t blessed with any pups.” He groaned, his hands moving to your stomach. You let out a sigh, grabbing his hands and stepping back from him slightly. It was true, and it left you wondering why the Gods hadn’t blessed you yet.
“I’m sorry-”
“You shouldn’t be.” Sihtric hummed, placing a kiss to the crown of your head before pulling you into his arms. “We are young, we have an entire lifetime to have a family, my love.” He mumbled into your hair as you clutched onto him.
“Let me finish making dinner and I will get a bath ready for you.” You spoke, although your voice was muffled by his chest.
“Will you be joining me?” He asked, a smile on his face as he looked down to you.
“I have a feeling the water will be black once we finish scrubbing you clean.” You told him with a laugh, stepping away from his arms. You helped to slip his cloak off, promising yourself that you would wash it before he leaves again. Hanging his cloak up by the door, you ushered your husband to sit at the table in the kitchen as you puttered around, finishing the stew you had started before he had come home. In between getting the stew ready, you worked at warming water in the wooden tub. Once the stew was finished to cook over the fire, you smiled in triumph and looked over your shoulder.
Sihtric’s eyes never left you, watching as you worked quickly. You always hummed while you cooked, and most times you didn’t even realize it, but the man loved it. “Your bath should be ready, my love.” You told the man, walking forward with the intent to pull him towards it, but you were pulled into his lap instead.
“I love you, (Y/N).” He mumbled, before connecting his lips to yours.
“I love you too, Sihtric.” You told him, your hand cupping his cheek, your thumb brushing along his cheekbone. “Now come, before the water turns cold.” The man let out a laugh as you dragged him to the tub, helping him from his armor and tunic as he quickly got into the tub. The two of you worked quickly to scrub any dirt from his skin. Sihtric hummed as you ran your hands through his hair, scrubbing soap into it until it sudded. “Finish up, I will go find something for you to change into.” You told him, pressing a kiss to his cheek as you stood from your spot kneeling beside the tub.
Sihtric did as he was told, rinsing his hair of the soap, and his body as well. He wrapped a cloth around his waist as you walked into the room, handing him a clean tunic and trousers. “Supper should be ready now, get dressed.”
“Have you always been this demanding?” Sihtric asked with a laugh, making you roll your eyes at your husband’s question and leave him to change. When he was dressed, Sihtric joined you at the table. His hair was still wet, small droplets of water falling onto his shoulders but he was too hungry to care. “I have missed your cooking.” He told you, as you placed a bowl in front of him. Sihtric would take your cooking over those of the men they traveled with any day.
“I have missed having you here to eat it.” You told him softly, offering him a smile as they two of you ate. You listened intently as Sihtric told you where they had just come back from now, the smile never leaving his face as he talked of their adventures. You listened intently, until both of your bowls were empty and your stomach was full. You watched your husband talk, his eyes lighting up as he spoke, which never failed to make you smile. Sihtric was normally such a quiet man, but the sound of his voice always calms your nerves. Hearing him step through the door and call for you always brought you peace, it meant he was still here with you.
“My love, are you listening?” Sihtric asked, noticing when you looked to be in a day dream. You hummed in response, nodding slightly. A smile tugged at his lips at your response. “What are you thinking?”
“Do you know how long you will be home for?” You asked, Sihtric shook his head. “Then I was thinking, the more time we spend in bed, the higher our chance for some pups.” You told him, a cheeky smile falling upon you. Sihtric’s eyes went wide at your comment, but he nodded quickly. “Lock the door, I will clean up quickly.” You told him, Sihtric was quick to stand from the table as you grabbed your dishes with a laugh.
The man was quick to lock the door for the night, walking back into the kitchen to find you tidying up from dinner. He wrapped his arms around your waist as his lips found your neck, placing open mouth kisses against any surface he could reach.
“No more waiting love, it was your idea.” He whispered into your ear making you shiver. Before you could protest he turned you around and placed a quick kiss to your lips, before throwing you over his shoulder. You laughed loudly as he made his way through your house, kicking the bedroom door closed as he placed you on the bed. His lips met yours quickly, your arms finding their place around his neck to pull him closer to you.
“Thank the Gods for blessing me with you.” Sihtric hummed against your lips.

Hey Author, I wanted to ask if you could maybe write a story about ! Sihtric x reader! Could you perhaps write something where the reader is the younger sister of Ragnar, Uhtred and Thyra. In sihtric's age.
Maybe she could have met him in the forest when the two were children and became best friends from that day on. Nobody knew about it because the families are no longer good. Years later, when Kjartan kills the parents of the reader and Uhtred. the reader goes with him and Brida. She is younger than Uhtred and brida maybe Uhtred could teach his little sister to fight and she will be a shieldmaid maybe even the best!!!
When sihtric joins uhtred, the reader is very happy. Sihtric loves the reader, but thinks she would never want anything from him, so he marries his wife from the series
The relationship between the reader and sihtric becomes very bad due to the married
The reader is angry because she doesn't like his wife, she’s jealous and she is very hurt. And she makes him feel her anger!!! Maybe we could have a little fight with his wife, that would be cool.
At some point I don't know how they could confess their feelings for each other.
I love drama in story’s like that. I hope you like it too and it gave you ideas to write it. Maybe you could say if you write it.
Thank you, your reader 🫶❤️
#drama #brokenheart #anger #bestfriends #love
I am so jealous that she is his wife. I just don't like her😑
I have to put my cell phone away, otherwise it will be broken later
I wrote a similar request to another author, but I thought I could also ask another one, hope it doesn't bother you! 🫶
Heyyy finally got this done. It is longer than I expected lol cuz I wanted to give them a shared background story lol. I tried to add all the requested components but his wife just isn't his wife yet so he was planning to marry her but then ofc he changes his mind after the reader rages at him. I love angry confessions lol.
Cheers, hope you enjoy the story 🫶

In the heart of the forest, the sun shone through the canopy of leaves and the birds sang a merry tune. A group of children ran through the underbrush, their laughter echoing through the trees.
"I saw a wolf, Uhtred, I saw it, it had sharp teeth and yellow eyes!" Brida shouted excitedly, brandishing the branch she held in her hand as a pretend sword.
"Brida, Uhtred, don't let them get to me," Thyra shouted from the platform the children had built in the trees. "And protect my little sister!"
"I am a warrior like Father and Young Ragnar. I don't need Uhtred to protect me!" you shouted back at Thyra, who only rolled her eyes at your childish antics.
"Father and Young Ragnar are much bigger than you, you cannot possibly be like them!" Uhtred laughed.
You crossed your arms and glared at him until he raised his hands placatingly.
"Now then, what shall we do about the wolf?" you grinned. "I say we skin him and gift his pelt to the lady of the hall."
Your hair whipped around your face as you fought your imaginary foes, eyes bright with determination and a fierce sense of bravery. You took careful steps, your feet moving in sync with your makeshift sword, as you circled around the supposed wolves who were coming for your sister. Suddenly you heard the sound of branches snapping and twigs crunching underfoot, signalling the approach of another person to your little corner of the forest. You instinctively raised your branch in front of you, ready to defend yourself and your friends against any potential enemies.
"Did you see that?" Uhtred's voice wavered and everyone's necks turned in the direction the noise originated from.
A figure stepped out from behind the trees, making Uhtred and Brida freeze.
"Uhtred?" Thyra's panicked voice came from her spot in the trees. "What is happening?"
"Stay up there!" he warned, grabbing your hand along with Brida's and pulling back a few steps.
"It's Sven, Kjartan's son," Brida breathed.
"Sven?" Thyra's voice shook.
"He won't hurt you," Uhtred reassured.
You pushed Brida and Uhtred forward, "But he'll kill you, so go!"
"What, we're not leaving you!"
"And I will not leave my sister. Just go, please."
Several other young boys, Sven's friends presumably, tore out of their hiding places, giving chase to Brida and Uhtred as they sprinted away. One of the larger boys made his way toward the tree Thyra was in. You ran after him, hoping to get to him before he reached your sister. You tackled him to the ground but he easily threw you off to the side before going to haul Thyra out of her hiding spot and toward Sven.
"Don't touch her. Don't you dare touch her!" you shouted, and another boy grabbed you by the hair and yanked your head upward.
"Shut your yapping mouth or you'll be next bitch," he murmured into your ear.
Thyra whimpered as Sven cornered her against a tree, sword in hand.
"Uhtred! Uhtred!" she wailed and it made your heart race.
You knew Sven was going to do something to her, you could see it in the smirk he sent your way just before he reached forward and ripped the top half of Thyra's dress off her shoulders. A broken sob escaped her mouth and she squeezed her eyes shut, trying to make herself small. The sight set your nerves on fire. With an animalistic screech, you headbutted the boy who was holding on to you. When you slammed your head against his nose, you heard a satisfying crunch and he howled in pain as blood gushed down his face. You gave another holler before you ran and threw your entire weight onto Sven, forcing him away from your sister and managing to knock him onto the ground. You watched out of the corner of your eye as Thyra fled the scene, screaming for Uhtred and Brida to come to your aid. One of Sven's friends pulled your small frame off him easily, and dragged you deeper into the forest, pinning you against a tree with his arm across your neck, suffocating you. You twisted in his hold and kicked him between the legs, making him drop you so that you could crawl away. Sven was right there though, and he grabbed your jaw, turning your head so that your eyes met his. He was several years older than you and now you were frightened.
"Hmm, you're not as pretty as your sister, but I suppose you'll do," he snickered.
You closed your teeth around his arm, biting down until you tasted blood. He swore and when he went to pull you off, you drew back to punch him. And then you were raining blows down frantically upon him before he had a chance to get up. His hand scrambled around for his sword and brought it up in a deadly arc across your face. You flinched at the burning sting and he used it to his advantage in order to throw you off him. He stood there frozen for a moment, just watching your crouching form on the floor, your hand pressed tightly to your cheek as you took in deep shuddering breaths and blood seeped from between your fingers. Perhaps he then remembered who your father was because he turned and ran, his cruel friends following close behind.
"Are you...are you alright?" came a timid voice after a while, and it made you jump.
"Who-Who's there?"
You blinked through teary eyes to spot a young boy around your age step forward from behind a nearby tree. He looked at you with concern, his eyes taking in your injury.
"Are you okay?" he asked again softly.
You shook your head, fresh tears streaming down your face. You were terrified, hurt, and you couldn't quite remember the way home so you were also lost.
The little boy took a step closer, his eyes reassuring, "Don't worry, I'll help you."
You cringed away from him, "Who are you."
"I am Sihtric. I won't hurt you."
"Can you help me find my way back home, I don't remember the way," you whimpered.
Sihtric took your hand and started to lead you out of the forest. You clung to his hand tightly as he led you through the forest. You were still scared, but somehow his presence brought you a sense of comfort and safety. As you emerged from the dense cluster of trees, you could see your home in the distance. Your heart leaped with relief, and you began to quicken your pace, Sihtric keeping pace with you, never once letting go of your hand. As you drew closer, you saw both your parents standing at the door looking out anxiously. When your mother caught sight of you, her eyes lit up and she rushed towards you, scooping you up into her arms. You winced, your left hand still pressed up against your face. She let out a gasp and carefully pried your hand away, and showed the angry red line, that ran from your cheekbone to your chin, to your father. Earl Ragnar swore loudly before taking up his sword and leaving the house in a fury to confront Kjartan and his son, already having been told the story of what happened by the other children.
"Is-is Thyra okay?" you whispered to your mother, making her smile affectionately.
"Oh my darling girl, look at the state of you, and you're still worried for your older sister. Thyra is perfectly fine, she just had a bit of a fright, now let's get you inside and cleaned up hmm?"
Sihtric lingered outside your door, uncertain of what to do. Your mother noticed him standing there and approached him, still clutching you in her arms.
"Thank you for bringing my daughter home," she said, her voice kind. "You're a very brave young boy."
Sihtric just shrugged, looking a little embarrassed, "It was nothing, I'm just glad she's okay."
As he turned to leave, you grabbed his hand.
"Wait," you said. "Will I see you again?"
"If you like...?" he gazed up at your mother in hesitation.
Your mother nodded, her lips turning upward, "You are welcome here anytime."
You grinned shyly, the memory of your adventure already fading into the background, "We can explore the forest together then, just like real warriors."
With a wave goodbye, Sihtric turned and disappeared back into the woods, leaving you with a newfound sense of wonder and the excitement that comes with making a new friend. From that day forward, Sihtric became one of your closest companions, spending endless afternoons exploring the forest and getting into all sorts of adventures. You always looked out for each other, and the bond you forged that day in the woods never wavered. Even though his father had been banished by yours, he continued to find ways to meet with you in the forest, a place where he didn't have to be Sihtric Kjartansson, a bastard child of Kjartan the Cruel. He was just Sihtric, your friend, and perhaps more, judging by the lingering glances you both often exchanged.
This continued up until that fateful day when your entire world was burnt to the ground. You had lost everyone, your parents, your grandfather, and your beloved sister. Your older brother Ragnar the Younger had been away and you felt yourself all alone in the world, that is until Uhtred and Brida took you in. Uhtred felt a strong sense of responsibility for you, being one of the last surviving members of the family that had so lovingly raised him. He had been unable to save Thyra from being taken but he swore to himself that he'd never let harm come to you.
As the years went by, your childhood wish came true. You had indeed become a fierce warrior, and Uhtred made sure that you knew how to protect yourself and others. You fought in the Battle of Edington against Skorpa and made a reputation for yourself, but the young boy with whom you had spent your childhood days remained a fond memory you found yourself often reminiscing.
______________
It was in King Guthred's camp in Cumberland where Sihtric finally found you again. He had been sent there to infiltrate the camp and abduct Uhred but when his band of spies attacked, you were the first one there to save your brother, along with Hild, Halig, and Clapa. He had recognized you immediately, the fierce young woman with sharp piercing eyes reminded him of the little girl in the forest whom his half-brother had maimed. However, when you first saw him, you had only looked at him with disdain. He was just another miscreant to you, sent to harm your brother, and you could not imagine him as your childhood companion. He felt his heart sink at that, at the malice in your eyes, at the fact that you did not seem to remember him at all.
Once he had sworn his allegiance to Uhtred, he made his way to the great hall, where you sat conversing with Gisela. He wanted to talk to you, to hear you speak. Gisela caught sight of his yearning gaze on you and gave him a knowing look. She excused herself and left you sitting there all alone, giving Sihtric an opportunity to take her spot. He settled himself beside you, taking a moment to map out the planes of your face. He had waited years for this moment, to see you again, but now that it was happening, he was unsure how to proceed.
You looked at him and raised an unimpressed eyebrow, "I hear that you will fight for Uhtred now?"
Sihtric nodded.
"You better not betray him, or I'll stick a knife in your throat while you sleep."
A laugh burst out of him and he looked at you with soft eyes, "You are exactly as I remembered."
"Am I now?"
"Do you not remember me?"
You sighed, "Of course, I remember you. How could I ever forget?"
"Well the way you were looking at me like you wanted to take my head off, certainly didn't feel like you remembered me."
"You know you did try to hurt my brother."
"Right...I'm sorry for that by the way. You have my word, I will never betray him."
You twirled your dagger between deft fingers, "I'll hold you to that."
Sihtric laughed again, "Gods, I've missed you."
Your heart skipped a beat. You had always felt something for him but never dared to act on it.
"You did?" you asked, surprised.
He nodded, "I thought about you all the time, wondering where you were and what you were doing. If you were well. And then I heard the stories, of your brother's victories, and they always spoke of his brave sister who fought beside him."
You felt your heart swell with happiness. For the rest of the day, you and Sihtric continued to converse, your exchanges growing more relaxed as you fell back into the familiar comfort of knowing each other. You both shared stories of what you had been doing since you last saw each other.
Sihtric hesitated for a moment, then gathered up his courage to ask you the question that had been weighing on his mind ever since you had been separated, "Are you perhaps with someone now?"
"Why, are you asking because you're interested?" you gave him a playful smirk.
Sihtric's cheeks flushed red as he stumbled over his words, "I... well... I mean... that is to say..."
"Relax, I'm just messing with you. And gods no, me with someone? What an absurd idea. Although... I might be open to offers."
You winked at him.
His eyes widened in surprise and he cleared his throat nervously, "I, uh, I wasn't... I didn't mean..."
"My brother does enough of that for the both of us. Someone's gotta stay sensible and keep him out of trouble, especially since Brida isn't here to do it anymore."
You chuckled at his discomfort and reached out to touch his arm.
Relief washed over him, and he smiled shyly, "That's good to hear."
You shoved his shoulder, "Good to hear? I am glad my lack of companions brings you such joy Sihtric."
"That is not what I meant and you know it."
"Oh really, so what did you mean then?"
You bat your eyelashes playfully and he rolls his eyes.
"You haven't changed one bit."
"Perfection doesn't need to change Sihtric."
"Oh very funny."
What he didn't say out loud was that you were indeed perfect. To him at least. He had spent the past few years of his life missing you and he couldn't bear the thought of losing you again. He kept his admiration to himself as he listened to you speak, feeling a deep yearning in his chest. He wanted nothing more than to tell you how he felt, to take you in his arms and never let go. But he was afraid. Afraid of ruining the friendship he had just rekindled. Afraid of the disappointment he would feel if you rejected him. He wondered if you knew how he felt. Did you have any idea of the effect you had on him? He doubted it. After all, you had been children when you had last seen each other. Maybe you had moved on and found someone else. Maybe you didn't even remember him the way he remembered you.
As the next three years went by, you fell into an easy routine with Sihtric. He was part of Uhtred's inner circle and you were his beloved sister so the two of you were seldom separated. Your teasing banter and friendly competition entertained everyone in the group and soon they were all making bets regarding which one of you would be bold enough to confess to the other. The feelings you two had for one another were obvious to everyone, everyone except you and Sihtric it seemed. Even your brother often sent teasing smiles your way when he paired you with Sihtric for tasks. Perhaps this was why the entire group was flabbergasted when Sihtric asked for Uhtred's blessing to marry.
Uhtred had mentally prepared himself for Sihtric to eventually ask for your hand. He would ask you for your opinion of course and if you were agreeable, he would have been more than happy to bless the union.
"Who is it that you wish to marry Sihtric?" he raised an eyebrow.
Finan sniggered behind him, sure that his companion would utter your name. You were all on the road back to Winchester and it had been a dull journey so far so he was curious at this new turn of events. You had to admit, you found your heart racing at his request as well. You held your breath, not daring to hope.
"Sidgeflaed, Lord," Sihtric replied.
"Sidgeflaed? The whore in Winchester you've been spending a lot of time with lately."
"She says she loves me, Lord."
Finan snorts and Sihtric squared his shoulders defensively.
"I swear, she says she loves me!"
"She would. Sihtric she's a whore," Finan chuckled. "What she loves is your silver."
The entire group burst out into laughter.
Sihtric kept his attention on your brother, "I wish to marry her. She says she loves me and I love her."
Uhtred noticed your rigid form out of the corner of your eye. Your knuckles were white from how hard you were gripping your horse's reigns and your jaw was clenched tightly. He could tell that something was bothering you and he had a feeling he knew exactly what it was.
"I will speak to Gisela when we arrive at Winchester and then perhaps I will let you marry your girl. But in the meantime, you are to give her no more of your silver."
You felt a pang of jealousy and sadness at his words. He had chosen someone else. You thought that perhaps now since you had been reunited, he might've chosen you. You kept your emotions in check long enough to flash Sihtric a strained congratulatory smile, but inside you struggled to hold back tears. And then your sadness turned to anger, and you couldn't help but feel a sense of betrayal. How could he marry someone else when you had loved him all along? You wanted to scream at him and ask him why, you wanted to beg him not to marry this other girl, you wanted to run away and never see him again, you wanted to see him every day of your life. Instead, you kept a placid smile on your face and once you all reached your destination, you were the first one to bolt home, leaving your brother to deal with your horse.
Gisela looked up in surprise when you burst through the door and rushed to your room, the door slamming behind you. Once you were in the private confines of your chambers, you let the tears flow freely. A few moments later, there was a soft knock on the door. You quickly wiped your tears and tried to compose yourself as your brother's wife, entered the room. She had been there for you ever since she married Uhtred, almost like a second mother.
"Oh, my darling, what's wrong?" she asked gently, placing her arm around your shoulder.
You sniffed morosely, "Nothing, I'm fine."
"Well, you don't look fine."
"It's really nothing. I am just being immature, it's no big deal."
Gisela's lips turned upward as she ran her fingers through your hair, "I have two kids under the age of seven. I think I can handle immature."
You just shook your head and leaned against her, allowing her to pull you into a tight embrace, her comforting scent calming you down. Just then, someone cleared their throat loudly and Gisela looked up to see her husband smiling down at her.
"Am I interrupting something?" Uhtred asked.
She shook her head, "No, your sister is just upset, but she refuses to tell me why. Perhaps you can shed some light on this matter?"
"No, you can't tell her. She's going to think I'm being childish," you whined from the crook of her neck.
Uhtred sighed in fond exasperation, "Sitric has asked for my permission to marry."
Gisela's brow wrinkled in confusion. Shouldn't you have been happy if that was the case? She had watched you become close to him over time and she knew how fond you were of him.
"To marry someone else," Uhtred clarified.
Her eyes widened in understanding as she rubbed soothing circles on your back, "It's okay love. It's okay to be upset. You are a strong and resilient woman and you can get through this."
"Shall I refuse him?" your brother asked, making you shake your head frantically.
"No, I am just being selfish. I want him to be happy, and if... if that other girl is the one he loves, then I will try and be happy for them. I don't want to get in his way."
"If you say so."
After Uhtred left you alone with his wife, you wrapped your arms around her once more.
"Thank you, Gisela. You're always so kind to me."
Gisela smiled at you warmly, "Of course, my dear. That's what family is for."
Over the next few days, you made it your priority to avoid Sihtric at all costs, going out of your way so that your paths didn't cross, and when meeting him was inevitable, you made sure that you interacted with him as little as possible. Your tone when addressing him was cold and clipped, only saying what was necessary. It was obvious to everyone that you were trying to distance yourself from him and eventually even Sihtric picked up on your strange behaviour.
He had been trying to find a chance to talk to you alone ever since his first announcement regarding his matrimonial plans. He sensed the strained tension that lingered in the air whenever you were around him, and it filled him with a sense of despair. He was doing this all for you and now you wouldn't even look at him. He thought that by marrying someone else, he would be able to take his mind off you. He didn't want to push you into something you did not want and ruin your friendship by confessing his feelings but now it seemed that he had only made things worse. He had to make things right again somehow. As luck would have it, he spotted you walking down the street alone one day. He called out your name, hurrying to catch up to you.
When you turned around and saw him coming towards you, you tried to quicken your pace, hoping to avoid him, but he was much too fast. He grabbed your arm and pulled you into a nearby alleyway, away from prying eyes. You aggressively yanked your arm away from him and glared.
"What are you doing, Sihtric?"
"I had to talk to you," he responded, his voice low and urgent. "You've been avoiding me, and I need to know why."
"I have no idea what you're talking about," your voice was flat as you fixed your eyes on something over his shoulder, avoiding eye contact.
"Damnit would you at least look at me when I'm speaking to you."
"No."
"Why are you acting like this? Would you please talk to me."
"Just leave me alone Sihtric. Go spend time with that whore you've been humping. You should get to know your future wife some more," you spat out.
Sihtric flinched at the venom in your words. Your entire body was tensed and you blinked rapidly a few times as if to hold back tears.
"I can't leave you alone," he said, his voice rising. "You're my friend. I care about you. I need to know what's going on."
"I am not your friend, don't you dare call me your friend. You do not care about me at all!"
"How can you say that? What have I done? Would you at least tell me?"
Your face hardened, "If I was really your friend, you would have told me about Sidgeflaed. You never even mentioned her."
"Is that what this is about then? You're upset that I told your brother before I told you? If that's the case then I'm sorry you had to find out like that," he approached slowly, arms reaching toward you.
You shoved him away, "You don't get it, do you? You still don't get it."
"Then explain it to me... please."
"You're marrying her! How could you marry her? If you really cared about me, you wouldn't be breaking my heart like this!" you screamed at him then, and tears streamed down your face.
"What?"
"How could you marry someone else Sihtric? How could you do that to me when you know how I feel about you? Do you expect me to attend your wedding with a smile on my face? Congratulate you for every child you have with her?"
"What do you mean I know how you feel about me?"
You turned to walk away, and Sihtric couldn't hold back any longer. He grabbed your arm again and spun you around to face him, pushing you against the wall, his face inches from yours.
His voice rose in anger, "You know what, no! You don't get to say something like that and walk away from me. What did you mean when you said I know how you feel?"
"You know very well what I meant. Do not humiliate me any further," you gave him a weak laugh.
Realization dawned on his face as his eyes widened.
"You have feelings for me?"
You shrugged nonchalantly, "What does it matter? It's not like you feel anything for me."
Sihtric scoffed derisively, "That is the furthest thing from the truth."
"Huh?"
"Don't act like you don't see it. Like you never saw the way I've always looked at you."
Your eyes narrowed in anger, "How dare you? You never once told me how you felt. How dare you blame this on me?"
"I'm not blaming-" he sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I'm sorry okay. I'm sorry I hurt you."
"That doesn't change anything. You're still marrying her."
Your voice broke at the last word and Sihtric's heart clenched at the sight of your melancholy expression.
"I'll try to be happy for you. I swear it. You-you should be able to be with the person you love most and I will make my peace with the fact that it will never be-."
"I don't want to marry her!"
"But-"
"I thought that by marrying someone else, I could forget about you. I was wrong. I can't forget about you."
"Oh don't pretend to care now."
Sihtric tucked a strand of your hair behind your ear and ran his fingers down your jaw.
"I care about you more than anything," he whispered, stepping infinitesimally closer. "I love you."
"You do?"
"Weren't you listening silly girl? It's you I love, it's you I wish to choose."
"I don't appreciate being called silly," you sulked. "And you're really not going to marry her then?"
"No. No, I can't keep lying to myself."
"You really hurt me you know."
"I know, and I'm sorry," Sihtric begged, his voice pleading. "But please, just give me a chance to make it up to you. I love you. I always have, ever since we were children, and even when I couldn't see you, I never stopped thinking about you. I just didn't want to ruin what we had by telling you."
Your heart skipped a beat at his words. You had always secretly hoped that he felt the same way, but had convinced yourself that he didn't. Now, standing in front of him, you could feel the tug of your shared history and the depth of his emotions.
"Please, just one chance. Let me show you how much I care about you. I promise to never take you for granted again," Sihtric continued sincerely.
"Okay," you murmured, your voice softening. "Okay, I'll give you a chance but if you hurt-"
"Never. I will never hurt you again."
Sihtric brushed the remaining tears from your eyes tenderly and smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. He couldn't resist the pull he felt, because then he was leaning in and pressing his lips gently against yours, unsure if you would reciprocate.
You were caught off guard by the suddenness of the kiss, but as his lips moved against yours, you felt your heart stutter in your chest. You closed your eyes and kissed him back, allowing yourself to be swept away by the rush of affection you felt for him.
You both stood there for a few long moments, lost in each other, oblivious to the world around you. When he pulled away, Sihtric grinned.
"I suppose I'll have to ask your brother's blessing again," he looked into your eyes hesitantly. "That is if you would do me the honour of allowing me to be yours?"
"Yes. Yes of course."
"Thank you."
He pressed a delicate kiss to your scar and then you were pulling him back towards you by his collar, mouths pressed in a passionate embrace as you both gave in to the undeniable attraction that had been simmering beneath the surface for years.
"I love you, I love you, I love you," he mumbled against your skin like a prayer.

𝑺𝑭𝑾🌿
It was a bit disheartening that you all couldn't get back home in time. The harsh weather did not allow for hasty travel.
So, the group was a bit stumped on how to celebrate the holiday, not just because you're a mixture of Saxons and Danes, but because you did not have what you usually did. Not your families, or a roof over your heads, nor did you have a wonderful feast... that's what the group was most sad about in all honesty. (Besides Sihtric who has a wife and many chlldren of course).
But Uhtred settles everyone. Like he usually does.
"We can celebrate how we want to. Combine our traditions or maybe experience something new? What do you say?"
"Uhtred, our tradition goes for twelve days-" Sihtric replies, scratching the side of his head.
"Well at least we'll be back in time for some of it!" Finan claps Sihtric on the shoulder, slightly squeezing.
Everyone was onboard. (of course they were, all members of the group respect each other - and therefore their beliefs.)
With Finan first to agree, as always.
The night before Yule, you made everyone sleep in the same tent. Dragging everyone's sleeping rolls into the one space, ignoring the disgruntled comments from each man.
But as your found family, you wanted at least one night where everyone is together (even if there isn't much room).
Osferth and yourself are in the middle, with Finan and Sihtric on either side.
Uhtred comes into the tent late - making sure the area was secure (I know there would usually be a look out but just pretend it isn't needed for this night)
At first everyone fought over space, but as the time went on, a calmness settled in the tent...until Finan farted
Osferth was the first to wake. He stayed in the tangled mess of arms and legs for a bit; revelling in the warmth of his family around him.
Luckily, with Uhtred's forward thinking, he had gotten all your presents weeks in advance. And last night he wasn't only just securing the small camp. He had set up the presents outside, along with 'decorations' (which were branches and herbs he'd found. It actually looked very beautiful.)
Osferth quietly left the tent, standing in awe of what Uhtred had done. He started the food; as he's always done. Pulling out all the stops... truly putting in all his effort to make the food perfect
And Osferth really did outdo himself, because that's how the rest of you left the tent. By your noses.
Prayers and thanks are said before the food is dished out, and it isn't until minutes later that you and Finan spot the presents
"Aye, what do we have here?" Finan nearly squeals. His delight illuminating his grubby face.
"A surprise," Uhtred replies with an amused smile.
"Oh I love surprises, well, only the good ones -" you clarified. Finan nodding along in agreement.
"Well, go on," Uhtred said ushering you forward. Then he turned, cupping his mouth and shouted, "Osferth! Sihtric!"
When presents are handed out, Finan is the most excited to receive his, while Uhtred is excited to give them.
Sihtric does his best to keep on a happy face, but you can tell he feels guilty for not coming back in time for Yule. You know he misses his wife and kids.
Each of you took turns trying to cheer him up. But all he could find solace in, was that he'd be able to see them soon enough.
With full bellies and a twinkle in each of your eyes, you all laid down to stare up at the stars.
Shoulder to shoulder, you all felt each other's warmth, letting it sink into your body, into your very bones.
