Is it just me, or does Buck and Eddie's dynamic in the first ep seem to have shifted drastically? I just watched it this morning bc I don't have cable TV, sadly. But it felt very, very different. Like, it just feels very charged. Maybe this is my buddie brainrot, but its a dramatic shift in their relationship, and I'm not sure how to explain it more.

Like, for one, after the bee save with the woman and her kid, it just felt like Eddie was more proud of Buck than ever before, and I don't think we've seen them fistbump before(?) but I could be wrong. And it felt very like - I don't wanna say flirty (but it felt kinda flirty) when Buck was spraying the perfume on Eddie. And his little smile after he said "because you're the fastest runner" was like, hearteyes. Their interactions really felt completely different.

Even when Tommy was around, it felt charged between them. I cant explain it. It just feels completely different this first ep.

I'm writing this to basically say I'm really excited for this seasons stories - and where this Buddie dynamic is going. Honestly, it won't be the end of the world if Buddie doesn't go canon (though my gut instinct is saying that this drastic dynamic change isn't for nought). But even if the ship doesn't go canon, I just want a good story. They have good ingredients to work with this season. Hopefully they make it a good one.

Their interactions do feel different. It could be contributed to the fact that they're once again coordinated and written and supervised by Tim Minear but we already got that in s7 in which we could tell things were so much different from s5 and s6 by these interactions alone (photos attached)

But no... s8 interactions feel even more different. They have a different energy and I believe it's because they've been told that buddie is officially becoming canon and so that has affected their acting choices

i just can't get over how s6 made no sense like im so mad

starting w/ nyxly bc wth??? kara is such an empathic person, she has a huge heart but in the end they just sent her back to the phantom zone w/ lex???? i mean,, nyxly definitely was a good person, she was just so hurt and she deserved a second chance,,, kara and nyxly feeling the other emotions definitely hinted that yeah redemption arc but no they just threw it all away

and don't even get me started on lena. yk i started watching this show bc i love Katie Mcgrath, and one thing about her is that she really understand her characters and in an interview she said smth like: not everyone is a superhero and that's where lena stands, doing what she thinks is right being surrounded by superheros,,, w/ wtv knowledge she has she's just doing the best she can. and w/ s6 being about ppl empowering themselves bc they don't need superheros to protect them,, the character that illustrated this the best was just given powers (⁠눈⁠‸⁠눈⁠) like be so fr pls she didn't need that,, and ik someone said that its to give lena a queer narrative and give supercorp queer subtext but it still doesn't make any sense for her character????

yk what let's talk about supercorp while we're at it. kara and lena did not spend 3 seasons devouring each other w/ their eyes and then break up arc (s5) for wtv is happening on s6. i am genuinely mad over this bc s5 gave us perfect context for a romance,, like kara spent 3y lying to her best friend and then they have this huge fight abt it and right when they make up kara ends up alone in a terrifying place. it's so freaking easy for romance to bloom here ????? like i honestly think that supercorp should've been the core of s6 bc even as friends kara and lena are each other's most important person and they both went through pretty traumatic events and i think they should've been supporting each other on a much deeper level idk im just so mad

This isn’t anything deep but I just love that both Liam and Theo know how to fake cry and have utilised. Liam when Scott and Stiles tied him up and Theo in the police station and in Scott’s car.

Also off topic, but is Liam blonde? Cuz I see illustrations and some fics where he is written as a blonde guy. I honestly kinda like the idea of blonde Liam.

omg you're right. liam even went all out with those teary puppy dog eyes and that weird whimper he does... like its not just forcing a little tear, he actually tries to appear as if hes scared with his facial expressions. and i mean, maybe he was a bit scared. just a lil. he doesnt believe that sciles are telling him the truth at that point (obviously) but getting attacked by some creature-person, scott biting him and then kidnapping him? even though liam handles that situation impressively well, i do think there was a little real fear inside of him. so maybe he drew on that as well to be even more convincing.

actually- this would fit thiams conversation in the truck from s6ep16. "people only feel one emotion at a time, liam. which is why you get angry when you're afraid." if we assume that he was afraid because of getting tied up and everything, this would explain his aggressive behavior afterwards. i think he definitely fakes most of it (the crying), but this may be a pattern for liam, as theo points out. instead of demanding an explanation from sciles, he attacks them and runs away. sure, he just thinks they're crazy and wants to get away from them. but its not like scott kidnapped him for no reason. liam saw. he witnessed a "person" not looking or acting like a person. he got attacked by it. he felt scott's fangs, he saw scott. as a human, none of that has a reasonable explanation. so him getting angry and running away... that was probably him actually being scared bc he cant make sense of what happened to him.

regardless, its impressive (and really funny) that he makes himself cry and puts on this "im just a scared boy :(" show. its even more impressive bc stiles seems to fall for it? stiles, famously known for Not falling for anyone's bullshit, stilinski? believing liam? like, okay. this feels like further proof to me that liams fear, at least, was real bc in later seasons hes kinda bad at pretending (that scene in s6a where him and mason show up at the house where sciles were bc of the ghostriders and he goes "h-hey what. what are u doing here" lmao) Anyway. love this instance of his quick thinking skills. hes actually very smart (when he wants to be.)

and theo does it constantly, yeah. those scenes are actually some of my favorites, if not my absolute favorites, from him in s5. its just so good and so hilarious how he makes himself small and makes his voice go all quiet and he literally starts stuttering and stumbling over his words, just for him to do his Evil Grin as soon as no one is looking at him anymore. makes me wonder what watching s5 would've been like if they hadn't shown us who theo actually is. i think that would've been kinda cool, getting manipulated and lied to by him as a viewer, just as he does to the pack. the twist at the end of s5a not only being a surprise to the characters, but the one's watching as well. and then getting shown his evil schemes in flashbacks... idk. could've been fun.

and okay omg. liams hair is so confusing to me. because in s4, he definitely looks blonde to me. look at this.

thats blonde. not the lightest blonde ever, sure, but still. maybe a dirty blonde or whatever term fits here. i personally wouldnt call this brown. right? right. i think we can agree. blonde. in s5 his hair looks much the same, maybe a tiny bit darker but still.

and then. Then. s6ep1. excuse this weird fucking picture, its the only scene where his hair is like this.

like. okay... on top it looks blonde, but it's noticeably darker at his neck. but again, this is the only scene in s6 where his hair is like this. in the same episode, even before this scene, his hair is darker, like its the entire rest of s6. pics for reference:

so like obviously they filmed that kissing scene before any other scenes. makes sense, since that exact hairstyle is also the hairstyle he has at the very end of s5b. so like. is he blonde??? did they dye his hair??? i have genuinely no idea. if they did dye his hair, why? or did his hair just become darker as he aged? but in some scenes it looks like his roots are lighter than the rest of his hair...

i wish i could tell you what his hair color is. people have their own opinions about this, bc ive seen fanart where hes very blonde but ive also read fics where he gets described as having "raven locks" which?? i think of black when reading that. idk. its whatever. hes a blonde, a brunette, go wild. whatever makes you happy.

I keep thinking about the key of Aaravos because it is rarely mentioned at all since season 2. Law of Chekov Gun says it should have a big role eventually but we still don't know what it does. What do you think it does?

Oh, the Key's never been more relevant than in S4 my dear sweet anon (honestly may be worth doing a post just about it in that season since, somehow, I haven't yet and S6 is right around the corner)

The season I'd argue it has the least on screen relevance in S3 (it's there mostly for fun Xadian shenanigans in 3x02, and then isn't on screen at all until 3x08, in which its presence helps Callum realize he can use the moon opal necklace to hopefully help Rayla) and technically S5 due to lack of screentime, even though it looms over Callum relentlessly due to its Aaravos-dark magic-negative associations. There's a reason they use the pawn Callum intro, and that the pawn Callum intro has the Key in it at all (bc it did not Need to) in 4x04, honestly more importantly, 5x08.

In short, though:

I have 3-4 main ideas about what the cube may be / what it does. Some of these work under the assumption that Aaravos wants the cube back, but he may be totally disinterested in it, so there's some accommodation for that as well.

The Key isn't drawn to a place, but is drawn to Aaravos himself; it holds his memories (explaining how they knew his treachery) or his heart piece, and it'll help restore Aaravos to his full power

The Key holds a general quasar diamond, such as Laurelion's (if he and Aaravos aren't the same person lmao)

The Key was used to help humans develop dark magic and it doesn't do much else

The Key helps unlock the Star Nexus or to find wherever the other Startouch elves have gone, and can help Aaravos 'go home'

Honourary mentions: the Key is drawn to something in Elarion, the Key actually was a gift for Leola, the Key is also connected to deep magic (ties into the dark magic development honestly for me), etc etc.

I could also see the Key eventually being more positive - helping Callum more directly with magic or defeating Aaravos or something - but that'd largely be a subversion of the previous set up / symbolism, so if it did happen, it'd get pushed until like S7 or something. That said, I doubt it'll just have a positive subversion without serving a more negative purpose of some kind, first; it flashes a bright white light in the Pawn intro after all, and that just seems to indicate that Callum's going to play into Aaravos' hands regardless (and 'light'/white is often bad in TDP, anyway).

yes and no.

i think the manga is a good enough story that people will keep up with it until it sees its end.

and i think for the most part, season 6 isn't awful. the important parts of the show have been animated alright and i think the war arc has had the right tone for the majority. im not a fan of how the studio has consistently changed bakugous lines to make him seem more aggresive.

but the thing is that season 4 and 5 of bnha were just. so egregiously bad. bones is so notorious for cutting out so many important scenes post s3. they cut out SO many scenes for overhauls arc and even more in season 5. the pacing was fucking awful for s5 like downright horrendous. the focus being on the stupid fights between 1a and 1b and not the later arc building up to s6? fucking ridiculous

you guys know me. im a diehard for this fucking series. i spend my waking days tossing and turning over it. the characters and the world. i love it.

but of all the anime released this year, it has been the series i least looked forward to. im not keen on catching up because i think it just cuts so many corners. i think they've rushed it after s3 because it started gaining immense popularity and under the time crunch - im sure its been hard on animators to include everything.

so of course im not blaming them but like. from the bottom of my heart i do not look forward to the anime much if at all for these reasons. i will watch it of course, and im sure ill like it bc bkg is in it. and i love seeing my beloved blorbos and blorbitas

but personally im not a fan of how bones as animated it at all and i dont know if its at a point where it can be easily improved upon either.

i havent seen much of s6 yet but its one of the most important seasons of the show easily. so im hoping they can redeem themselves. but honestly, my hopes are not high

I saw in the tags of one of your posts that they shouldn't have gotten rid of noah and instead done away with Josh and like I couldn't agree more. (desi same brain asdfs)

It reminded me of this idea for a S5 au.  I didn't like the character of Claudette because she felt more of like a writing tool than an actual character within the story (brought in to replace maddie, give may a storyline, and show jonah's villany). I wondered what storyline they could give the dispatchers, just josh linda and may. I would've loved to see josh grow closer to linda and may and like miss maddie. For linda I would've loved to see how she could've stepped up, like take on more responsibilites, watch her become a senior dispatcher. and for may, I would've loved to watch her relationship with dispatch grow and change. we watch may hear another family member be in trouble (she joined dispatch to help people like her mother, so with harry injured she gets to see if its worth it) and then later in the season we get to see if she wants to do this forever or try something new.

This all comes to a head in 516. Instead of Claudette dying at the hands of Jonah, it would be Josh. I feel like him dying fits better in the story. Like it would be more impactful than Claudette. It would force Linda to step up and take over Josh's job. May would receive like a shock to her system. It would really show her that she should branch out more before she possibly dies on the job. It even works metaphorically, she joins the job bc a loved one was injured then leaves bc a (loved one? nice coworker?) was injured died. Then in S6 when Noah comes in, Maddie could be his mentor like how Josh was for her. A full circle moment.

idk if any of this makes sense im supposed to be writing an essay rn. I hope the general gist of this makes sense.

you're so right! this would have made for a really interesting and impactful storyline with dispatch, and linda and may taking centre stage together would have been amazing! though honestly, given the overall dark nature of s5, they probably wouldn't have wanted to kill off a regular like josh, but one can only dream :)

maddie mentoring noah could have been such a good storyline for 6A, considering that she was away from the job for more than a year, it could have been interesting to see how that factored into her training capabilities. sadly, s6 has (at least in my opinion) completely failed on the maddie front. i just hope things get more interesting in 6B.

7. do you outline before writing? if so, what’s your outlining process like?

i have honestly got out of the habit of outlining which is very bad, this is why i keep struggling and getting stuck because i am someone who NEEDS an outline, but instead i've been just coming up with random scenes on the fly which works fine until i run out and then i end up sitting there like the fish in bags from finding nemo like 'now what, genius'

but my outlining process is basically just 'sit down and brainstorm, stare at various different beat sheets and story methods and try not to go insane'

also i have to outline by hand, that is very important. don't know why but it all has to be hand written.

11. are there some wips that you just don’t think you’ll ever finish? 

much as i hate to admit it, and prefer to live in denial land where i'm convinced that every wip will one day get the ending it deserves, there are plenty of them that will more than likely never see the light of day 😭 the most notable one that comes to mind is that at one point i was planning to do another sequel to aftermath, that giant 500k s1 rewrite i did where barry and len were dating from before barry even became the flash. i have maybe 20-30k of a direct sequel to that that's basically a mashup of s5 and s6, where barry vanishes in crisis and then in a moment of desperation and poor decision making, len sends their adopted son back to try and prevent crisis from ever happening, only for them to discover that him travelling back is what causes crisis in the first place.

i genuinely LOVE that fic and what i wrote for it, but i feel like i've kind of moved on from those versions of the characters and grown so much as a writer and there are just so many things i don't like about the original fic that spawned it that i just. don't see myself ever finishing it, unfortunately. i feel like aftermath is a very stark contrast in my writing journey bc it was basically the last thing i wrote before doing my writing degree so there's such a huge difference in how i wrote and the whole vibe of it. i'll always be fond of aftermath but also im moderately embarrassed by it as well, so yeah. but maybe i will post snippets one day or something, because i genuinely LOVED the dynamic i wrote between michael and len, it was so fucking fun.

also i once wrote a fic where coldflash get whammied by a meta and, under the effects of what is essentially a metahuman love spell, decide to literally run off to vegas and get married and team flash have to hunt them down and try to stop it. this one feels like a crime because i have like 90% of it written so i would just have to finish and then edit it BUT i wrote it so long ago (we're talking like 2017) that to get it to a state i'd be happy with, i'd probably have to rewrite it in its entirety, so. never say never though cos now i'm thinking about it...

17. what do you do to motivate yourself to write? 

i honestly have been struggling with this forever BUT im doing camp nanowrimo right now and it's actually been so motivating. i'm fighting for my life here bc i lost the last three nano events i did, capping out at like 35k each, after a previously unbroken streak of almost a decade, but this time i was like COME HELL OR HIGH WATER I REFUSE TO FAIL THIS TIME. i'm like 3k behind, but it's fine, probably... rocks back and forth in a dark room

Im on s8 of supernatural and im so surprised that im still enjoying the show so much. Genuinly thought id start hating it after s5 but nope!

Yeah sure the story ending at s5 wud have made so much sense considering all the build up throughout the seasons, and the current villain of the season plotline isnt the best. But i honestly dont care!! I love these characters soo much and im greedy for more of them and that is what these seasons r providing me with.

I fear they are writing the characters slightly ooc but its alrightttttt im ignoring it and just reading tons of fanfic to mediate the discrepancies in their behaviour (like, sam and deans whole argument abt betrayal/amelia is so weird. Why would sam not look for dean? Why is dean so pissy abt everyone betraying him?)

I think the only thing i hate abt the show is how they killed off bobby 🙄 like why was that necessary. Gosh. Bc of the whole 'bringing ppl back frm the dead' thing i didnt even grieve him properly bc i genuinly thought theyd revive him somehow. Which i guess happened w the ghost thing but still. Jeez.

Also i think i prefer destiels dynamic now cus before that theres wayyy too much going on plotwise for me to see them together. As well as like. The fact that dean didnt consider cas that close during s4-5 imo so. Yaa It was nice to get the confirmation of him considering cas family in s6, as well as his determination to save cas during purgatory. I can sufficiently see the potential for their romance now

fuck this I forgot I do have a major complaint: wdym we have to couple with someone to stay?? that never happens in the real show its just bc love island in fuseox's world always dumps single islanders immediately after casa eve though that removes a lot of tension. that must also be why they broke up MC and her LI right before casa. Doesn't make sense though bc this wasn't the case in S6 when it should've been (i.e., if you bring back Andy, then Elliot shouldn't have been dumped OR Elliot should've coupled with someone just to stay safe). Still better than s5 when MC comes back single from Casa, she gets forced to couple with someone to stay safe AFTER revealing her partner recoupled, bc that never happens, but then also the same courtesy does not happen to Eddie who is also an OG?

and part of it I think is fusebox not wanting to keep track of all the Islanders and storylines but it's honestly fine if some of them end up fading into the background bc that's what happens on the show if there's no major storyline for those islanders. Like either do the thing where single islanders save individuals from couples in danger or or wait for a recoupling and then dump the extra couples with a vote. it could be so easyyyy.

as per usual I have complaints about the missed opportunities of casa

first things first, the casa boys' sprites looked bad to me when I saw that post fusebox made but after playing for like a minute, I was like nah actually they're quite fine. However, prettiest sprites they're competing with are Jin, Claudia, Oakley, Tyler, and Bea so the competition is rough. Also idk something is throwing me off with Shawn and especially Kyle's face shapes.

I think last post I made I said Hari at least got more of a chance than Tyler, but scratch that actually, it feels like they got the same chance because suddenly we're in casa and hardly any mention of him, even though he and my MC have kissed a few times already and she hasn't really rejected him fully over Jin yet? Don't know if anyone's in the boat of going all in with Hari but I'm curious what the gameplay is like for them.

So Emel has randomly decided to be annoyed at Oakley again (I'll replay for you next time Oakley 🥺) and it's clearly because the routes are merged now, which is such a shame because I do think Emel and Oakley could've worked it out and become a fun couple to watch on the real show (probably a boring one though that the audience would dump until after the show ended that their real personalities come out on social media and the public like them individually or at least understand why they were together so long). And I know it's not the most in character thing but I so appreciate it not being a complete 180 for the sake of plot because I'm trying to imagine this with all the couples given what I know about them from my playthrough and Emel/Oakley always have problems because she's uptight and wants more dramatics in their romance and he's chill so any little thing he ends up doing sets her off, sure, I can buy that Emel is a little delusional. Then Luna/Jin would have problems because Luna is less extroverted than Jin, serious, and irritable (which honestly, relatable) and so Jin does things for a laugh and she doesn't get it. So maybe he didn't wink at Bea or did it as a joke because he's being cheeky and she takes it as flirting and starts an argument. And from my playthrough, Sophie and Jack always feel like they're looking for an argument so that checks out too. It's not perfect, but I can feasibly see how one could justify this plot point.

pet peeve subjective raunchy races is back 😠 at least a couple of them are better, like they did have oldest boy in there at least. everything else though, I don't care that much to listen to them argue about who's the most well traveled or stylish.

I love Bea's personality, she's so fun. And tbh, I'm kind of liking her and Liam together. He's forward and she's into it, and it seems like he can keep up with her for now so I'm happy with that couple and I hope it doesn't turn to shit (it probably will).

also pay to win when losers are gonna throw a part anyway ok sure 🙄 I think I've mentioned this before but like personally I think if they're gonna do gem scenes, there has to be a logical ways out of it rather than just MC being like "nah I don't feel like it" and then they lose?? at least for other gem scenes it's like "tell Sophie off 10 gems" or "stay silent" like sure that's fine I guess.

anyway the chats with the boys were actually all pretty fun and short. I, as per usual, have immediately gravitated towards the foodie/chef character but I'll admit I see what y'all are saying about Kyle. Tbh even Max isn't too bad but I'm cautious bc I'm getting Eddie vibes (it's the blond and the gossip lol). And I like Liam, he's like a less cartoonishly silly Hamish (so he reminds me of Felix).

I really like the free party wear dress and this is the second volume in a row MC has accidentally matched with a boy not her partner lol

Bea first mentioning she was bi but not flirting, I just thought maybe they were setting her up to partner with Claudia/Theo depending on who you couple up with/if you're on one of their routes. But then oh the tension at the party when she's staring at MC saying she wants to turn heads and Claudia getting nervous??? loving that.

I don't know what it's like for the other boys but it seems like Shawn and Kyle are drama averse, which I think could be an interesting plot point for later coming back from casa of course, but I also don't know if I believe in fusebox's ability to incorporate that in the story. (once again, the day I write a fic and learn to code its all over for you fusebox)

I didn't pay for the Bea talking about Jin scene but I saw yall talk about Sienna and like I doubt it's going anywhere if it's behind a paywall? it's like the Brad and Christy stuff tbh like unless a bunch of dumped islanders are coming back at the end, I'm ignoring it.

gotta say I LOVED what they did with Octavia’s storyline. She fell deep and they gave her a chance to get back up step by step. Even Bellamy abandoning her, as hard as it was, was necessary for her to understand the full scope of everything she’d done. I got the breakdown I was expecting with her practically begging to be killed during a fight and even saw her literally get rid of the Bloodreina side of her in a hallucination. Plus, giving her Diyoza as sort of kindred-spirit mentor was fantastic for her healing process.

I’m just so happy because it’s so rare we get to see female characters go darkside like that and get a well fleshed-out, season-long redemption arc without her having to sacrifice her life to earn it. Octavia is such a complex character, and I enjoy following her story immensely.

What do you think of tdp's rating potentially changing for s6? Personally I'm all for it because I'm on the younger side of the fandom (not a minor but I definitely was when I started the show) and it's nice that the show is growing with me, but I've heard complaints that the increasing darkness doesn't fit well with some of tdp's less mature aspects/humor. One of my favorite artists dropped the show because of it, which is a little disheartening since I thought s5 was absolutely amazing.

Honestly I thought S3 was pushing the lid on Y7 with some of the final ep violence / some elements of the Aaravos-Viren-dark magic body horror, so I think realistically S4 (because of the Ibis scene) and s5 (gestures to - half the season) should absolutely be rated PG. Y7 tv shows tend to get away with a lot more than G-rated films (at least since the mid 2000s I think) so I think that skews stuff as well.

As for the humour, even when it doesn't work for me (personally S1, S5, and S4 have had the best humour for me) it's almost all character based so I give it a pass. Like soo many people acted like the goofiness in S4 or fart jokes were baseless / a personal offense, but 1) Claudia's always had bathroom humour and while it's never been something I found funny, I appreciated it for its character consistency and that a girl gets the gross out humour at all bc we just don't see that a lot, and 2) teens and adolescents make bad jokes all the time. I make fart jokes all the time. I don't really want 'em in my media, but I do think they're funny, and I like that the characters in my media think they're funny because yeah... Bad puns, stupid jokes, being ridiculous with your friends, even or especially in times of crisis - sounds pretty grounded in realism to me.

I think part of the disconnect people have with humour (and less 'mature' humour, which - my favourite Shakespeare joke is the "do you bite your thumb at me sir" from Romeo and Juliet which shows my 'maturity' level when it comes to laughs, lmao) vs the rest of the show is... People outside of the age demographic being unwilling to accept that they're outside of the age demographic. Like drop TDP for any reason you want, of course, but

It's like - I didn't love the episodes in She-ra about "learning how to be a good friend," but I'd be dumb if I genuinely complained about it because this show is For Kids and it's catering to them first and foremost. It's not supposed to cater all parts of itself to my age demographic, nevermind my taste and no art does that, even stuff that is for my age demographic because it's an unrealistic choice to put on media. TDP is a little different since they've gone on record stating that its for Families, so that warrants something a little more 'mature' by proxy (and I very much think the show reflects that) but like - it's for families, and that means reflecting all those elements, too. Including humour (some for adults, some for tweens/teens/etc).

TLDR; emotionally scared because I love all the kiddos but very glad overall about the rating change, cause I'd rather people be warned ahead of time / be able to make informed choices about what they want to watch / consume.
