In your opinion, who is by far the worst written character you've made? Explain. (3-5 sentences)(That's a school joke btw but I do actually wanna know who you think your worst character is.)
oh my god, this is shaping up to be a bit more than 3-5 sentences but i just watched a contrapoints video and i'll never be concise again.
if a screwdriver is a good screwdriver because it manages to fit the screw, a character is a good character because they serve their purpose in the plot. a purpose like protagonist, antagonist, foil, silly buff tiger that is incredibly shallow but that's kind of the point so how can i argue that she's a failure of a character when she's literally my favorite and i would die for her? ... anyway i forget what point i was making but here are my worst written characters because they (arguably) failed to fit the screw.
cop-out answer: my first draft of cody from 2017/2018 was sooo one-dimensional. he felt like a homestuck dirk knock-off made more bearable because he wasn't condescendingly smart or serious. i couldn't develop his character because he was just so damn happy all the time. new cody is my favorite character, and therefore objectively the best written character in existence. he's got more realistic problems, genuine relationships, and is a great conduit for me to vent the problems i have with authority figures that i didn't even know i had.
real answer: the pa1 characters are pretty shallow. in their defense and the defense of those who love them, their simplicity ups the comic appeal. like brownie wants to delete herself via chocolate. is it realistic? no, but if it were i guess it'd lose silly points. the ridiculous pa universe's suspension of disbelief relies on everyone being a stupid nonsensical dog. so imo they fulfilled the purpose i had for them, which was creating a joke fantasy in which you had no choice but to make friends or die, my two favorite things at the time.
but i have a new favorite thing now, and that's making high complexity, open-ended statements about society or whatever. a better written pa1 would mean including exposition about patches' horrible home life/antisocial diagnosis, or a scene where olive and co attempt to call 9-11 like any sane dog would do, or more stuff about the contentious history between cats and dogs to explain coco's murder of the entire school.
speaking of, i think my worst written character is pa1.5 coco. she fulfilled the role of causing the apawcalypse in pa1, helped stop the apawcalypse in pa2, but somewhere in between there should've been a scene where everyone shakes and sobs over the realization that murder = bad, even if you are a funny gay halloween cat.

Coalition Pinned Post: About Us, How to Join, Important Links.
What is the Coalition?
This is the home of the Homestuck Fanauthor Coalition, a discord-based writing club for fanauthors of all things Homestuck! Any current or aspiring author of Homestuck fanfic is encouraged to join, with the caveat that they understand this is a place for those who have a commitment to bolstering creativity in the Homestuck fandom. We provide a space for brainstorming, proofreading, beta-reading, co-writing, and all other forms of collaboration you can think of! We uplift each-other's works and encourage each-other to keep creating. We are mostly AO3-based authors, but several of us also write MSPFAs, and a few of us even write fangames! So whatever your homestuck writing project, you can find a place among us.
As part of this, we have two AO3 Collections.
Homestuck FanAuthor Coalition Fic and Recommendations is broken into two sub-collections: Our Stuff, which attempts to catalog ever member's works, and Our Recommendations, through which we suggest fic we've read to each-other, mostly written by those not in the Coalition.
Homestuck Fanauthor Coalition Writing Competitions is where we host our competition fics! We all vote together on a prompt, then write our works anonymously, submitting them to a hidden subcollection. Once the works are due, they are revealed, and everyone (not just the participants) gets to read the fics. We then vote on a series of "best in" genres, leave a compliment, and try to guess the identity of the author. At the end, everyone gets a digital medal! It's good fun.
Our Identities, with Ao3 & Tumblr links [below the cut for length]:
Since it's pretty darn hard for the layman to find at a glance, here is our member list. We'll try to keep this up-to-date. This section is under construction, members will likely want to edit their blurbs. Right now we are trying to re-order in the order of joining us!
@thegoodthebadthealternative @madam-melon-meow / Madam_Melon_Meow on Ao3: the founder of the Coalition, M^3 has been a Homestuck fan since 2014, but only started writing fic herself in 2023, alongside her fiance Celery! It is her firm belief that fanfic is the lifeblood of fandom, and she wanted to create a space where authors and editors could meet on equal footing, rather than gather in servers dedicated to one author's fanfic, or servers generally dedicated to Homestuck itself. She saw an empty niche and decided to fill it.
@thegoodthebadthealternative @arealpeople / sarcasticcelery on Ao3: an admin of the Coalition, Celery has been in fandom since late 2018, and was 75% through Homestuck proper when the epilogues came out, so he had an interesting introduction to the community. He is of the opinion that no work of media should be left deconstructed, and that all art should be shared- especially the ugly stuff. He hopes the coalition will facilitate this in the rich seedbed that is Homestuck.
@taglineguerrillawriter @orangestorapples / orangestorapples on Ao3: Orange is one of the bot wranglers for the Coalition discord, and they started writing fic WAAAAAAY back in 2015 on WATTPAD of all things! (I know, they're old 💀) They didn't join the homestuck fandom until 2019. Orange shares the same belief as M^3, about fanfic being an important facet of keeping fandom alive, and come hell or high water they're gonna contribute.

20 questions for fic writers
Ahhh, thank you so much for the tag, @milkteamoon and @cnnmonbimee !!! 💜💖🤗
1. How many works do you have on Ao3?
Oh my goodness — 297!! But a lot of them are pretty short. Many one-shots.
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count?
1,051,086 words!~ I’ve had this account for over 10 years now hehehe. Crossed a million words this last year!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I’ve written for many many fandoms tbh — mostly Homestuck, Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun and New Danganronpa v3. But if I have Stuff to Say About Characters or Worlds, I often say it through fanfic.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
- Alright, Place Your Bets! —> part 1 of my first Saiouma phantom thief AU from way back when~ NDRV3… 3,212 words!
- Hey, Deal Another Round! —> part 3 of that same Saiouma phantom thief AU. This one’s 5,421 words.
- Now, Show Your Hand! —> lol, and this one is part 2 of that AU! (A bit curious that part 3 has more kudos than part 2, mm?) 4,535 words!
- Things Could Be Worse… No, Really. —> here’s another Saiouma AU. >:D A take on that Love Across the Universe: Dangan Salmon Team side-game. All three of these are from 2017 + early 2018!! This one’s 3,253 words.
- Surprise Visit —> and here’s the outlier! This one’s about Dionysus and Ariadne in Percy Jackson. She pays him a visit hehehe. 3,631 words~
5. Do you respond to comments?
I definitely try!! 💜💖 it can take me a while sometimes, but yes, responding is always the goal.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Ahahaha that’s a tricky one!! If we’re talking about analysis/character study fics, possibly Little Clown Frozen… as I lament certain developments in Homestuck. If we’re talking about AUs, possibly Terrible Wanting’s dark end… (that’s one of my JSHK Hananene vampire AUs! It has multiple endings, one of which is a looooot softer than the other)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I think most of my AUs have pretty happy endings, with at least a tinge of hope. I’m not sure what the happiest might be!! Maybe Supernatural Stakeout at the Kamome Science Museum! — the longest thing I’ve written for Hananene… even Natsuhiko ends up doing more okay than expected in that one. But I guess “happiest” is subjective, and I’ve written a looooootttt
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Hmm I’ve gotten some weird comments and bot comments and all, but not what I’d call “hate.”
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Nah. I do write gory stuff/stuff I’ve rated M for other reasons, and very occasionally I’ve hinted at suggestive topics, but… nah.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Hehehe yeah I do! The craziest one? Hmm. I was the first person to write about The Starlight Calliope on Ao3, when I crossed it over with Homestuck… but that mash-up’s not really so bizarre, given how both properties were made by the same guy.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I really hope not!!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yeah, I have!!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yeah, but not a lot of that’s made it to Ao3 so far. I’ve written quite a lot of casual stuff with my friends over the years/I still have some more formal projects in the works with friends. Some of which involve OCs, but I’m still gonna call them “fic” for my purposes here. :p
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
I’m most invested in Gamkar, Hananene and Saiouma……… I love all those ships. My favorite might depend on the moment.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I always have a lot of ideas/half-started things floating around in my Notes app. I guess one example would be a NDRV3/Magic the Gathering crossover I drafted completely but ended up unhappy with. Maybe someday I’ll go back to it and see if there’s stuff worth salvaging, but… idk.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Hmmm… I really like writing descriptions and atmosphere and stuff. I like Narration Voices and flavor.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Plotting out longer-form things is more of a challenge for me, I think. Devoting a lot of emotion and time to one project — I can get impatient. Also, knowing for-sure that something is finished… sometimes I hold onto things for months, other times I might post them before they’re ready because I just want to Peel Off The Band-Aid. Also, I get really shy!! I am probably going to worry about these answers once I post them.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I don’t write out dialogue in other languages in my fics, though if they’re speaking something besides what the perspective voice is speaking/if they change the language they’re using in a scene I might say that. Sometimes I’ll use words/honorifics from another language, but that’s different, I think.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
lol I used to pass notes/messages back and forth with wild, unafraid crossovers of everything my friends and I liked. Idk what I personally introduced first. Maybe Fullmetal Alchemist? I only started posting fanfic online under my current name thanks to an irl friend’s encouragement, and that was much later.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
Oh geez. That probably changes from moment to moment, too!! Idk! (I typed up a paragraph here about my longest fic, and which fic made me most nervous to post, etc etc etc, but that ended up being kind of a lot!)
Hmmm….. tagging peopleeeeee…….. if you’d like to be tagged by me, please consider yourself hereby tagged!! (And if you let me know you’ve answered, I’d love to read what you have to say!)

TL;DR your art from 10 years ago just made me relapse on homestuck; thank you.
Here’s the full story
My homestuck phase started in the omegapause and fizzled out circa 2018. In 2017 or early 2018 (dated by the comment I left), I watched a YouTube upload of your gigapause-era Masterpiece Theatre III lyricstuck and thought it was great
I’m now twenty years old and I’ve been an ex-homestuck for five years, I still celebrate 4/13 but I have other special interests to fill my time and i do the ex-homestuck thing of joking about homestuck being a trashfire. I have said that “I will never reread homestuck” to friends more than once
Yesterday I found an animatic of the same song for my current special interest (ace attorney) and was like “where do I know this song from?” the whole time, and then it hit me that it had to be from a lyricstuck because the song is just perfect for a lyricstuck. So I went and rewatched the lyricstuck to scratch that itch and found myself having homestuck feels in the year of our lord two thousand twenty three
For everything wrong with homestuck (and there was plenty wrong with homestuck), this weird work of fiction consistently pulled off sincerely impactful moments within the context of intentionally absurd lore, it laughed in the face of the idea of “avoiding being cringe”, and I think this is why it was so addictive to a generation of autistic teens
So now I’m on a nostalgia bender and downloading the unofficial collection to re-examine this flawed but iconic story from my childhood, now with more maturity to understand the thematic elements buried behind the shitpost tone (which child me barely engaged with beyond “noooo hussie don’t hurt my faves T_T”)
Makes me happier than you people will ever know to hear my art from back in the day was so loved. My friends often joke about me being “tumblr famous” and I know they don’t mean it like this but every year it feels more and more like laughing at me not with me. My follower count and notes drastically plateaued after homestuck hahaha.
I forget that there actually are people out there who actually liked my art and consider it part of their experience with a story they loved! That’s incredible! I’m honored!
Anyway homestuck isn’t as cringe or problematic and people keep claiming it was, at least no more than any other series from that era. Be proud of liking a series that was so revolutionary in storytelling, there is no multimedia project quite like homestuck!

🎵 🍐 🔦 for sys ask game?
HELLO!!! Thank you so much for the ask, especially for the ask game!!
🎵 - what songs remind you of your alters/headmates?
OKAY!! I’ll only do a few of these because we got this same ask BUT:
🎸 : Borderline by Tame Impala
🪽 : My Ordinary Life by The Living Tombstone
🐛 : Brave as a Noun by AJJ
Those are 3 of the main fronters (🪽 is more cocon but still), so I’ll probably do more next!!!
🍐 - are there any non-human alters/headmates?
Yes!! Ours tend to skew in a more demon/cryptid, but we have a ton of others. Such as :
- Demons (ofc)
- A shocking amount of Elves and Fairies
- Humans with a twist (shapeshifter, goddess, porcelain doll, ect)
- Too many Trolls (from homestuck- dont @ me /silly/)
- Eldritch Cryptids
And a lot others but these were like,, the dominant species
🔦 - how did you discover your system?
It all starts in the summer of 2022. Picture this; Freshly 19 year old in therapy- Therapist goes “I think u may have DID” and hosty at time scoffs and shakes his head, only to later do an exercise that let him see how many of us were there (a lot). Then its the rememberance that 🎸 and 💙 showed up in 2018 [🎸] and 2016 [💙]. So its like we had system communication and then lost it. Thanks CEO! /s silly/ No but seriously, CEO cut our contact with everyone and has done it more than once but HEY! Hes working with the system, not against it, now.

I don’t know if you’ve been asked this before, but what was your experience with detective mystery novels before umineko?
i've always gravitated towards stories with mysteries or something obtuse to puzzle over and figure out but i'm not actually that versed in detective fiction at all haha. the genres i'm normally into lean more towards horror and speculative/literary and also everything that homestuck is so while a lot of stuff i read does have central mysteries guiding their plots, the specific construction of detective mystery isn't something i am incredibly familiar with on the whole.
my closest experience to detective mystery fiction was actually when i was super into danganronpa as a teen and i ended up trying to write my own original killing game fan story. i never finished it and it's kind of cringe looking back at it but i did spend several years of my life trying to construct solid "hard but fair" murder mystery cases (i still have a bunch of files on my hard drive from when i planned it all out lol) that i think taught me a lot about the experience of a murder mystery from both the perspective of the writer and the reader. a lot of that was making up a guy in my head and imagining them trying to catch me out based on where their thinking would likely be at each stage. so then i was also thinking of my mystery but also how to throw this hypothetical guy off the scent while still making something solvable. the writing process was very much like chessboard spinning but if you put the chessboard in a 1 million rpm washing machine and turned into a weird psychological game of cat and mouse between me and a person that didn't necessarily exist.
the mysteries i published were kind of not that great (their conceits were "how can you find *the* culprit when the culprit is actually two people in tandem" and "an incredibly obvious case that becomes complicated by everybody else's assumptions and overthinking") since i wrote and planned them out when i was like 17 but the later cases i never got around to doing when i hit my stride and sketched out the rest of this story would have been way cooler (one murder was going to hinge around a really nasty wordplay trick to do with the time of death that technically wasn't a lie but was incredibly misleading and deceptive and another was an elaborate cause-effect chain involving a publicly witnessed indisputable suicide as the trigger) if i'd gotten around to completing the story. i will forever be haunted by this one particular locked double locked room murder i spent six months of my life sketching out down to the minute by minute positioning of the characters. it would have had the 2018 fanganronpa community trembling in their boots if i had ever realized my vision lmao.
anyway i guess my experience with detective mystery fiction is coming more from the position of a writer than a reader which i think comes through a little when you examine some of my thought processes (my approach at times is very much "if i was writing this story right now what would i do here" and then i search for evidence to try and back that up) even if i'm not super well-read or familiar with the genre outside of like one vn series lol. i know about making fiction and i know about keeping people guessing via revealing and concealing information and past a certain point most fiction operates under similar principles so that's how i got into understanding and approaching mystery. i think it's a fun genre, both to produce and to read now that i'm reading something that is more seriously presenting itself as a piece of detective mystery fiction! umineko is good because it really is scratching a specific kind of itch i never really address in my own writing these days because there's a specific time and occasion to produce these kinds of mysteries. hope this illuminates my understanding of/relationship to this genre a little more!

Fandom ask game: 4, 6, 16?
Oh! Hi! 4) Mmm. Attack On Titan, off and on. I think any large fandom kinda just sucks to be in through. I'm not really in the fandom. More like hanging off the edge asking "May I please see Ymir and Erwin?".
Fruits Basket fandom in 2007?-2013 as an Akito roleplayer because Akito is a terrible person. I can't deny that. So everyone expects you to roleplay them in their worst moments. But I was more interested in the religious/familial hierarchy roles they fulfill and the gender fuckery from the manga. And most other people in the fandom circles I was in were there from the anime. So...not only was I roleplaying from a different gender, I was roleplaying with entirely different motivations than the others and it made everything rather annoying. I hated their favorite characters and they hated mine (which is fair, Akito and Shigure are terrible people that are meant for each other.). Honestly, anime fandoms in general have been pretty awful. And that brief trip into Homestuck. Oh yeah. The Borderlands fandom. I love more terrible people in those games.
6) The Locked Tomb because it has very visually appealing fanart and everyone keeps selling me on it. But I don't have the mental energy to finish a book.
I'm playing both Disco Elysium and Hades but they are very hard for me to get into gameplay wise. I really like the fandoms though. So I need to actually play the games.
Barbarians but I don't have the energy for subtitles either. I'm just full of mental blocks lately, but things are getting better.
16) Ok, here are some things I'd like to do:
I want to make a smutty Alexidas comic? series of pictures? to this song. I've had it planned out for months. I have the...references. I have time.
On the same note I want to do a comic of Deimos! Alexios and his...child self? to this song. I think it'd be healing?
I want to write the Eruri modern au/record shop au fic that I made a playlist for in 2018.
I want to make a series of Kassandra pictures in AUs.
I want to make a lithograph of Brasidas.
I want to singlehandedly make a sequel to Dream Daddy but it's just a Mary Christiansen and maybe Val but I've already dated a Val and that went badly dating sim. You can date her and she leaves Joseph for you. You live the rest of your days in a happy group with Amanda and Mary's terrifying children and Robert visits often and gets in recovery for alcoholism.
Uh. I want to write a lot more weird little fics for AC Odyssey and apparently they will all have to do with hair.
I want to finish my WIPs.
I want to start the planned depressing yet wholesome Steddie Christmas/holiday fics I had dreamed up.
I want to make some filthy Borderlands stuff. Idk what kinda stuff. I haven't thought that far. Just. Some stuff. Should exist.
I want to make a massive oil painting portrait of Eliot Waugh from the Magicians. Also one of Brasidas. Also one of Kassandra. Also one of Erwin Smith. Also one of Anna Karenina. Also one of...ok my teenage dreams were oil portraitist so that's just...a thing I want to do.
I want to learn how to sew really well and recreate every outfit Villanelle ever wears in Killing Eve.
I want to learn the shanties in AC Odyssey and record myself doing every voice so I can just do harmony with myself.
I want to write a fic to go along with the Alexidas pieta to explain how I feel about Alexios grieving.
I have a lot of dreams.

In the time it took me to recover from reading The Locked Tomb, I finally watched the second season of Good Omens (had to wait for my parents to be able to watch it with me), and I want to do a quick post of my first impressions bc I like writing these. (No, I'm not over The Locked Tomb enough to write one for that yet. Maybe soon. Or maybe for Alecto.)
The short version is that I loved it, especially the ending. Season 1 is probably one of my favourite shows ever made; it's so obvious how much love and care went into every second of it, and I'm still impressed by how it manages to both be accurate to the book and modernise and alter the story a little to fit a TV show made decades after the book came out. The pacing, the amount of creativity and very different characters it introduces, the Cold War themes that somehow still work in the 2018 version, all the stuff that just keeps happening - it's just very good. Season 2 is very different from that, regarding the pacing especially. There's a lot less going on. Its focus is a lot more narrow. It's a lot slower, and a lot of it feels like filler, up until the last two episodes re-introduce the Shit Is Happening Left And Right pacing. Ultimately, it's a bridge between the first season and the next one (fingers fucking crossed that it gets made; I'm ready to just start cannibalising Amazon executives), it very much feels like one, and I think that's what it has to be seen as. Neil Gaiman confirmed that that's what it is a long time ago. So, no, it's not as gorgeously done as season 1 - but I went into it expecting a bridge, and I did get an incredibly enjoyable and very heartbreaking bridge that I'm 100% satisfied with. I wanted to see Aziraphale and Crowley and I saw them a lot, the plot is solid, and the last episode really came in with the fucking steel chair and knocked me the fuck out. My mind is rotting in 20 different ways rn. I did not need this after Nona the Ninth.
Anyways, in case there's anyone here who's on the fence about watching season 2 (or about Good Omens!), go watch it. Be at peace. Get your heart broken. (And, like, watch Good Omens, it's so good.)
Spoilery thoughts under the cut.
Starting off with a minor intriguing thing - I was SO on the fence about Crowley and Aziraphale having met before the Fall when I first watched their first meeting, but y'know what? I like it. There really isn't anything that says that they didn't know each other already in their Eden conversation. (I think that in the book, it does read like they know each other.) And I like all the little hints we're suddenly getting at who Crowley used to be before the fall. He was a Throne or a Dominion or above??? HELLO??? If the "Crowley was Raphael" theory ends up being real, I'm gonna start walking up the walls. Anyways, it's cool, these little reminders that Crowley does know Heaven fit very well with the overall theme of criticising Heaven as an institution, and I really hope that this is all build-up for a reveal of what sauntering vaguely downwards entailed for Crowley. Aziraphale's character arc is very much a metaphor for religious trauma and being in a cult, and season 2 puts Crowley in the role of the one who got out of the cult even more explicitly than season 1 did, which... is very appropriate, considering how it all ends.
Next up, I CANNOT FUCKING BELIEVE that they made Gabriel/Beelzebub canon. Are you KIDDING me. I went through all five stages of grief watching this with my parents right next to me, who had never heard of this ship before and were just sitting there, happily watching things proceed while my entire goddamn brain melted. What the FUCK. The audacity to do this and make it work, at that. I didn't even ship this, ever, and I'm still losing my entire mind about it. Is that what Homestuck readers felt like when Davekat went canon? Absolutely bonkers emotion, 10/10 would experience again. How dare they make me like Gabriel, also. Anyways, it fucking worked, and that's what upsets me the most. This was a genuinely sweet, romantic little story. The thing with the fly? OOF. Adorable. Extremely romantic. I, too, would leave everything I ever knew to go to Alpha Centauri with someone who made me the first gift of my life, saved my memory and sense of self with said gift, and then called it perfect to my face. Crowley is taking notes for wooing his own angel as we speak.
And it's all a big Aziraphale-and-Crowley parallel, of course. It's so fun that there were two of those - I had a chat with my dad about that, and we took note of some very interesting things. Like, it's very obvious that Nina and Maggie are Aziraphale and Crowley's mirror, but it only really hit me afterwards that narratively speaking, Nina is Aziraphale. She gets all the Crowley traits, of course - she's the sceptic, she's the grumpy one, she even calls Maggie "angel" (Cute!!!), and Maggie with her outdated lifestyle and her nerves and her cheerfulness is obviously meant to read as an Aziraphale parallel at first glance. But Maggie is the one who's waiting. She's the one who doesn't quite dare to confess, but tries to get close to Nina nonetheless. And Nina is the one who's in a toxic relationship and who, in the end, says that she needs some more time to get over that, hoping that Maggie will still be there when she's ready. And Maggie of course will be there! Like Crowley has been there for thousands of years and presumably will still be there once Aziraphale finally gets out of the cult for good. I want to believe its foreshadowing - it's certainly a direct parallel to the heartbreak scene in the end, and I want to believe that Beelzebub and Gabriel getting their happy ending is foreshadowing as well. It does drive me slightly insane that every single bit of this season was at least part of a big narrative parallel for Aziraphale and Crowley. It was all about love. I'm sobbing. It's all about LOVE, and hasn't it always been? (And, well, it's not like Anathema and Newt and Madame Tracy and Shadwell weren't Aziraphale and Crowley as well.)
On that note: The emotion I felt when they kissed? Unparalleled. We're explicitly and fully undeniably in the queer main characters zone, bitches. I legitimately almost cried. Of course the love story was pretty much explicit in season 1 already, but in a show that is not a Queer Show(tm) from the get-go, that never was marketed as such, a kiss still means so much, even if it's a sad goodbye kiss.
And speaking of that, finally - I avoided spoilers as much as I could, but I did pick up on the general, uh, unrest in fandom regarding the ending. Like, people apparently hated it and were very vocal about it, to the point where I couldn't even avoid it when I went out of my way to not look at anything Good Omens-related. Fandom annoys me more and more by the day - this is definitely one more thing for the pile of annoyances - and I try not to let that ruin my enjoyment of things, but I was prepared to be let down by the ending. Which is very interesting, because the ending was hands down my favourite part of the season. What the FUCK, people, can we not complain about the episode where we get an onscreen kiss? Anyways, I'm SO intrigued by this ending and the story it begins to tell. Aziraphale as an archangel is a wild status quo, first of all, but mostly, I really like what they did with the characters here. Again, Aziraphale is metaphorically in a cult, and the fact that he cannot let go of the idea that Heaven is supposed to be good, that what Heaven does must ultimately be good, fits that very well imo. He's at the point where he has realised that angels make mistakes and some decisions made in Heaven are wrong, which makes him determined to change things once he's in a position of power, but he's still not out of his cult mindset yet. Being an angel is still an inherently good thing in his mind, so of course he's fucking ecstatic when he thinks that he's able to bring Crowley to Heaven. Only that Crowley is really not about to re-join the fundamentalist cult he already got out of once, thank you very much. So, yeah, this works, and it's heartbreaking. Poor Crowley deserves none of this.
(All of this is also very, very queer - there's the obvious cult metaphor, but Aziraphale is also absolutely a metaphor for internalised homophobia. He gets the opportunity to be with Crowley and be straight, metaphorically, to have their relationship be a socially accepted, good, not sinful one! There's also some of the "Your soul can be saved if you stop being a demon gay" thing in there. I want to give Aziraphale twenty hugs.)
Ultimately, "Come to Heaven with me" vs. "It could just be us" complete with a desperate, heartbreaking, overwhelming goodbye kiss broke my entire goddamn heart. I'm very glad that Neil Gaiman already promised to tell the rest of the story no matter what, even if Amazon doesn't play along. That's not something that can stay unfinished. Anyways, TL;DR: Loved it, will watch again once I know how everything ends and don't have to cry about the ending anymore. Will go look at kiss gifs now.

Question.
So, I found you through the [blank] failure to develop a cool social experiment in viddy gaem post and was struck by both your enthusiasm on the topic of linguistics and the way you conveyed your thoughts on the matter. Really good stuff all around.
TBH that was enough to decide to follow you but I know only a little about Homestuck. Do you also perchance post about linguistics (and maybe MCYT, or was that a one-off think aloud)? What all are you interested in? :0
OKAY so i primarily post homestuck thats... definitely a thing! (i tend to do this a LOT. its a great webcomic and i loooove the art and analyses people make of it and i also make analyses of it) but frankly more than anything i just reblog posts that make me laugh! linguistics is my special interest since middle school and i love the way language is formatted and how people learn from it. for context i have dyslexia and often struggle with wording things in ways that people think is normal so its like an endless fascination to try to find what is "normal" and what is "weird" in terms of how people word sentences
im not going to lie i don't reeeeally post much mcyt content but i do actively watch qsmp out of an interest in linguistics (plus. it is pretty funny!) however i dont really post much about it! (though i was a religious technoblade watcher from when i found out about him in 2018 to... um yeah. so i will reblog the occasional art of him.) i do love minecraft the game though ive had an account since 2012 and i do post about it quite a bit :) especially mods i love modding that game to hell and back to watch it break in new and fascinating ways. otherwise ummmmm.... i kind of post about whatever is on my mind! so i end up posting quite a lot because i am a chronic overthinker and love to hear my own voice. i also like fashion and i am a huge huge huge huge dark souls (+ elden ring) fan!
oh and i collect anime figures! (i do not post about this much) this also entails anime but i tag almost every fandom accordingly ^_^!!!! less so out of blacklist and more so out of me wanting to find posts HAHA. and then of course i collect clown dolls and old porcelain dolls from thrift stores but i think those are just fun :)

Evolution of my art. Made this for myself because I wanted to see my own progress but I accidentally just made myself sad with how much of my art I've lost and the years when I hardly drew anything.
2011- One of my first digital art pieces. Redraw of a photo I found on Google. Eyebrow and mouth are immediately off-portion, but as a fully colored piece I think it is pretty good for a beginner. It was really small tho, I didn't understand resolutions yet!
2012- Homestuck phase. A year full of art to choose from, this was one of the last drawings I made that year, and honestly I still think it looks really good. The way I drew eyes back then was totally different.
2013- Supernatural phase. I was doodling a lot on homework and notebooks, but actual finished pieces are hard to find now. I've lost sketchbooks from this era. Perhaps even burned them, haha. This was done on whiteboard.
2014- This self-portrait was my magnum opus at the time, done for art class. There was a level of detailing textures here that I'd never care to revisit and this piece easily could have taken me 50 hours or more to complete. The nose/mouth feels so off to me, now, although I clearly broke my bad habit of drawing small pointed chins with this one. Each year I look at it hanging in my parent's house it makes me cringe more. Charcoal.
2015- Mostly MIA. I have some pen drawings from this time but I thought they were skippable and I only had room for 10 years here. I went to film school so I was focused on that creatively.
2016- Got into watercolor this year. Wasn't done on watercolor paper so it warped a lot. I don't really mind. End of my vanity era. I was in an art class, animation class, and character design class this year. Maybe got a little burnt out on art.
2017- Height of my pen drawing obsession, although most of the drawings I did were at work, and were hung up at work, and may still be there even though I am long gone now? Sorry about the weird crop it was a horizontal piece.
2018- Yes, similar to the previous year, but I see improvement in pen technique. I rarely took time to just sit down and draw other than in-class doodles.
2019- Wedding gift for my sister of her and her husband (although I cropped her out lol). Large watercolor piece where I was rushed and had to finish the background as an abstract fall leaves. I'm still on the fence about it overall.
2020- My digital art renaissance. This was the year I started to really realize I was utterly incompetent at backgrounds.
2021- I was really focused on photography this year, although I did do some sketching here and there. My laptop became mostly unusable for digital rendering so that cut down on my motivation.
2022- I discovered watercolor brushes, my beloved. I closed the door on many of my other creative outlets which seemed to bring back my love, passion, and motivation for drawing again.
Hopefully I can share a 2023 piece with you soon to show my improvements 🤗 I've been sketching a lot like I did back when I was 13 and it feels good!

So, way back when in 2015, Undertale came out, right? I was 13-14, but if I remember right, I was in Middle School, and one of my friends made an OC for it. I didn't know what it was so I asked about it, and I vaguely remembered Markiplier's first 2 episodes on it, before the fans harassed him into streaming the entire game. I wondered why Mark didn't play it, but I heard JackSepticEye played it, and because I was a kid without money, of course I watched him play it.
After watching Jack's playthrough, I fell in love, and basically watched everything I could about it. Learning all its lore, watching fan dubs of comics, wondering why Sr Pelo made that April Fools Genocide route (this is before I knew how Subtitles worked, and JFC when I learned that a lot of content creators were being harassed I got upset). I joined fan groups, joined Amino (hell hole), drew shitty art (I do leagues better than my old art, still shit tho), and because I loved AUs and lacked art skills, I started writing more often because of it. Hell, "Mr Fandom" was a name I made up because I was into Undertale, FNAF, My... that one I don't like talking about, but I wanted to express my interests in everything and embrace it. Gage Fandom as a name and character came later.
I have so many positive experiences with Undertale and its community, not to say it's all sunshine, but it definitely helped me out a bit. So why am I tired of it? Simple. I was obsessed with it since I was 13-14. A lot of my thoughts and ideas were about Undertale, I am 21 now and edging towards 22. I once was talking to my little sibling, and they called it a Hyper fixation, I found that wrong, because this wasn't a short term thing like those can be, I've been into this thing for nearly 9 years now. I'm just growing tired of thinking about it all the time. Don't get me wrong, if you wanna know anything about Undertale, one of the many games in my life that made me a furry, I can still recall most of it's lore, if something is only fanon or canon, if it's a myth, or even those messages Toby Fox made for when people inevitably shared them on the internet, good going Toby, you made a game interesting that the secrets that say people wouldn't be impressed with if they were put on the internet, people were legitimately impressed and made animations about that, good on.
I will tell you, Undertale is a fantastic game, it inspired me to write stories and even to an extent practice drawing (tho I definitely started drawing more when I got into HomeStuck around 2018, and I definitely started taking my own artwork a bit more seriously after accepting I'm a furry). I may have a hard time ever finishing a story I write, but I got into it because of Undertale and its writing.
Oh, and let's not forget Deltarune. I love it for some of the same reasons I do Undertale, Character writing is one of my favorite subjects (this is Kinda why I like Homestuck, a lot of characters are well written, even if also as much aren't, lol). Yes this is why most of my writings on this blog are of characters talking to each other, I'm primarily practicing Dialogue and trying to get to a point where it feels natural.
I love Undertale. I do not want to think about Undertale for a while.

I think people crush on Nick Nelson so hard because most of Heartstopper’s audience identifies way more with Charlie. But I really hope there are people who are like, “Where’s my Charlie Spring? 🥺”
Because wishing for a person who is out and proud, supports your coming out journey, is really smart and thoughtful, has badass music taste*, and built-in amazing friends is just as valid a thing to wish for as a goofy, sporty, golden-retriever partner with heart eyes.
🍃🍂🍃🍂
*you may disagree about Charlie’s taste, but I’m sorry, Charlie liking Radiohead and The Strokes matches my fantasy, sorry about it. And from the comics we know he likes Chloe Moriondo, The Vaccines, and Muse.

I made this just to gauge what people think. Is this accurate?
tumblr eras
2010: beginning of mainstream
true microblogging platform
fuckyeah! blogs
there were actual celebrities on tumblr
2012-2014: twee “tumblr girl” aesthetic and peak fandom (superwholock & homestuck)
“sides” of tumblr (i.e. “science side of tumblr, explain!” and hipster vs. fandom sides of tumblr)
I feel like viria’s and burdge’s PJO and HP art was especially big
“I like your shoelaces”
2014-2020: peak “tumblr discourse” (think Steven Universe and the rise of TERFs); kinda faded out after the kinning wars and that whole rabies thing
2015: John Green/fishingboatproceeds C*ck Monologue and end of post edits
2017-2019: peak musical theater fandom (Hamilton, Be More Chill, etc.), Voltron fandom
2018: p*rn ban and mass exit
2020: ATLA revival (fr that’s all I remember from 2020 tumblr)—jk remember November 2020? election results, Stacey Abrams, destielgate/superhell, et. al.
2021-present: collective memes that are only important on tumblr (e.g., horse plinko, it’s me i’m the ps5, slug reacts, blorbo, bug ass)
lots of general celebration of queer media (very different from early tumblr where it was all speculation and shipping)
Elon bought twitter, so kind of a new era for tumblr
also, of course, Dracula Daily

To the Nicks who will likely never see this post:
🍃🍃🍃
Most of the pre-existing Heartstopper fan base and certainly most of the fans on Tumblr are the Charlie Springs of the world. And for them, this show is about the possibility of healthy romance (i want to believe in romaaance) and creating a loving queer community.
But, gosh, I hope the Nick Nelsons of the world find this show. Now that Heartstopper is in the mainstream, I hope the people who have more marginalized identities, who never thought about being anything other than straight but for whom straight doesn’t feel *quite* right, those who deal with toxic masculinity/femininity and don’t feel like they have real friends, this show is for them as much as the Charlies.
And I hope the Nicks who watch this show seek out their Charlies, Taras, Darcys, Elles, Taos, Isaacs, etc. and find a community that loves them for who they are. And I hope one thing you Charlies, Taras, Darcys, Elles, Taos, Isaacs, etc. take from this show is to reach out. This show is so good at demonstrating how being yourself makes others want to be themselves, too!
Much love to the beautiful people on this hellsite:
💖💜💙,
💖💛💙,
🖤🤍💜,

My #1 post of 2022
Joe Locke Appreciation
Listen I know Kit absolutely BODIED Nick Nelson but Joe Locke also absolutely killed it.
Like his nervous giggles? His chemistry with the entire friendship group? Every interaction with Tori? And he’s already portraying Charlie’s mental illness so well and subtly. That boy is killin it.

I found tumblr when I was... I think 13 or 14? I didn't have much trust for social media. I didn't post my age, didn't post anything really. It was a time when Tumblr main focus was art and stupid shit like the color of the sky. And I wanted a social media where my classmates wouldn't find me. It was edgy, it was depressed teens, it was me.
I don't remember how I found it. I just know that one day I signed up for the art and got education on the side. People were all depressed on there and I could relate to that. But they also posted things you wouldn't be taught in school and people shared their experiences and how they dealt with it.
I didn't engage. I was taught I was too young to share anything about myself. But I learned a lot here. I found my fandoms and my place and eventually, when in 2018/2019 the twitter wave pulled the toxicity from tumblr (there was a noticeable shift), I began to feel safe enough to finally use my blog for my own stuff.
That was during my VLD phase, just before I jumped to Merlin.
Due to my lack of engagement, there was a lot I didn't get, so I somehow missed the homestuck thing, as I couldn't figure out what it was and no one wanted to talk about what it was about "to protect you". Lol.
I felt safe here. Just watching, being told how to block people, being told that I wasn't alone, no matter how bad I felt, being told all the things I was ashamed of about myself were normal when no one else bothered to talk about it.
I needed this website and it made me grow into the person I am today. It let me question myself and accept me as I am, because I wasn't alone.
I guess that's why I love this site. The sillyness, the funny bits, the community (even at a distance), the different sides to it (history tumblr, science tumblr, art tumblr, fanfiction tumblr etc.). This site provides me with links to my favorite fanfics and artists and series and knowledge and jokes and self help. I got more out of this than i ever would have on Facebook (which was the main social media used at the time).
How did you find tumblr?
I really enjoy talking with tumblr users so I thought I'd try posting more prompts to get some conversations started.
I was in a nostalgic mood this week and was trying to remember how I first came to tumblr. It got me thinking that it would be cool to learn other's origin stories. I'll go first.
Even though I'm a big nerd who loves Star Trek (DS9 4 life) and Anime (Fairy Tail forever) it was WordPress that brought me to tumblr. Back in 2010 while in college I worked part time for a WordPress theme shop called Obox Themes. They were looking for new markets and decided that tumblr themes would be a good area to get into. I fell in love with how easy it was to modify my digital home and how there was a whole community of people hacking and releasing themes. Creating a WordPress theme from scratch would have been impossible with my skillset then but with tumblr I could do anything with my handy CSS guide and a few energy drinks.
Over the years what kept bringing me back was the themes. They were funky, weird and sometimes a little broken but who cares. It seemed like the entire web was trying to be grown up but tumblr was Toys R Us, they said it’s ok to be a kid. I loved that. Whenever I felt like I didn’t belong anywhere else I’d come back to tumblr and make a new theme (https://www.tumblr.com/themes/by/nick). I use to love clicking on the installs and seeing what kind of fun folks were using my stuff. What kind of people liked the weird stuff I did. It's your turn. What brought you to tumblr?

TEREZISTUCK
Hey. You know what we haven’t had in a long time? Like, in 22 Fanadventures long time? And also, have never actually had have yet in 2018? A HOMESTUCK AU. That’s right, I’m excited about a Homestuck AU, because.
The premise of this one seems WILD.
Okay, apparently there are like, dinosaurs stalking the earth now, and they have eaten or killed Terezi’s Friends, and now. Terezi has to enact revenge on them. It’s the kind of wild swing that makes me go “oh shoot I wonder how they pull this off.” It’s…a unique AU, to say the least.
Also, apparently if you have epilepsy you WILL die, according to this warning. Which is. Good to know, I guess?
Also Also, This one is STILL UPD8ING. Yeah. A lot of those other fanadventures either stopped upd8ing or upd8ed like, a couple of times in 2024 before deciding to throw in the towel, but not Terezistuck, apparently! It’s kept on trucking.
I guess I should’ve expected this, but this seems more towards the line of Memepost than like, a straight-up serious faced AU. But I mean, I don’t really know what I was expecting otherwise. Yeah, this one is not taking it’s premise at all seriously, except in the art. Usually, a memepost would not, like, go all out in the art department, right?
WELL. Listen. You don’t just get favourites just because you are doing a strange AU of like, Jurrasic Park meets Homestuck but not really. No. You get favourites from GOING INSANE HAM ON THAT DRAWING TABLET.
Okay now it’s like, an action manga or whatever. Again, not sure what I was expecting when I clicked on the Dinosaur Revenge Comic, but this sure is a lot of blood and guts and dinosaur revenge happening on the screen. Uh…yay for met expectations?
I think the thing that’s making me just press on in the face of like, not really enjoying it at all, because I don’t know if I’ve said this before, but I. HATE. Fight Scenes. They are not very good and don’t usually have characterization. But there’s just so much…PASSION being poured into the visuals, for a lack of a better term, that I can honestly say that this probably would be one of the best executions of this premise that I could come up with, beyond just having. An actual story beyond Dinosaur fights that are vaguely anime that I am unequipped to actually describe, or am comfortable with describing. So, I guess, if you are wanting to go actually see Terezi Pyrope and various other homestuck characters do that with dinosaurs, be my guest, and you could probably do a whole lot worse, though I don’t know where.

𝐆𝐄𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐃𝐌𝐈𝐍 !
NAME: Mist! But I've gone by many other names before lol. This one just has stuck for longer than the others
PRONOUNS: They/Them
SEXUALITY: queer
SINGLE / TAKEN : single
𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐄𝐄 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐒.
I saw a juvenile iguana get run over last sunday and I got so devastated (I had stopped my car to let it cross the street) that I spaced the fuck out the rest of the way to my destination
I have worked as an illustrator and work as a bartender at a bar sometimes. I've also worked in a kitchen.
I learned english by myself bc I was really dedicated to understanding the sonic archie comics (small town and the sonic archie app only had comics in english), reading warrior cats (only 3 books were translated by the time i was 11) and reading homestuck.
𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄.
HOW LONG : I'm pretty sure its been 10 years
PLATFORMS : Started on Instagram comments, then DMs when that became a feature, Unsupportedmsparp, msparp, amino when I got bored, instagram again, Discord, Twitter, and now Tumblr.
BEST EXPERIENCE : I made a warrior cats fan Tribe rp group on discord in 2018 that took off pretty well despite some insane people joining and leaving. I still think fondly of it and plan on bringing it back to start over and make new memories with people who aren't insane
𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐄 𝐓𝐘𝐏𝐄.
FEMALE OR MALE : Whatever. I rp characters by how much they make me feel insane not their gender
FLUFF, ANGST, OR SMUT : All of them? I guess? I've roleplayed smut very sparely bc i have issues
PLOTS OR MEMES : Frankly, I don't know. I mostly go wherever I'm called. I'm not very used to plotting stuff through the end, and It's hard for me to be fully comfortable with memes that aren't very specific. If you hadn't noticed I am mostly the kind of guy to go on and on about shit and wait for someone to join in on the bit or something. But im not against either option
LONG OR SHORT REPLIES : depends on what kind of RP we're doing, I quite enjoy rambling and matching my partner's length is always a fun little challenge. I do get a little upset if the same courtesy isn't done for me, but y'know. I try not to be picky
BEST TIME TO WRITE : When im bored out of my miind and feeling particularly funny
ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S). In some ways yes I guess. I don't really relate to the kind of person Rodimus is because he is the sort of guy i'd either be best friends with or would hate the guts of, but I guess I relate to some more personal aspects of him. I do project on him every once in a while but that's bound to happen when you're roleplaying. It is Natural. But yeah idk. It's not something I tend to think about.

GET TO KNOW THE AUTHOR.
Tumblr media
𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐄 & 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐒: Qaqsoss (Pronunciation), Fox & Any pronouns, She / He/ They whatever feels right is just fine by me
𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐅𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍: The number one worst way to contact me is through tumblr IMs, as I have notifs for the app off, and only see messages when I get on desktop. My preference is this emoji back and forth over discord
💃
𝐌𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐄(𝐒): This is it baybeee. Now to be entirely fair it's not abnormal for me to have multiple muses running batshit in my skull (some of them see people they like or hear a song and they just wake tf up) but atm I don't have the energy to be present in my other fandom. So Aluhk is my babygirl at the moment :]
𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 / 𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐘 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐒: I've been rping since I was 12-13ish and have many years of experience spanning multiple platforms. Dragon Cave forums, tumblr, twitter, deviantart, MSPARP, discord, google docs, D&D5E... the only prominent one I haven't roleplayed on is facebook. So to sum that up; over 15 years of roleplay experience.
To be completely honest though I feel that multiple years of roleplay experience is not an indicator of writing skill, so do with that information as you will
𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄: Anything that has left me with longterm relationships. One of my longest relationships was from my homestuck days (cringe I know, you can laugh). We dated for 7 years, and have lived together for 8 of the 10 years we've known each other.
One of my best friends is from my deviantart days back in 2018, and my old D&D crew still play TTRPGS together periodically. I've mentored kids I've known from PG rp and D&D spaces and watched them grow up. Even as recently as 2021-2023 I've made friendships, that are that flat out familial to me and will last a lifetime.
Bottom line I like connecting with people, and that's probably the entire reason I rp rather than write things by myself
𝐑𝐏 𝐏𝐄𝐓 𝐏𝐄𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐒: Lets see... Powerplaying, disrespect for villainous muses, Protag Fearlessness, boring prose, rps that leave me feeling used as a plot device for someone else, and - maybe ironically - rping for the sake of rping (and not to create a story). I feel as if there should be more, but heres what I can think of off the top my head
𝐏𝐋𝐎𝐓𝐒 𝐎𝐑 𝐌𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐒: Memes all the way. I'd say my strong suit isn't plotting, but reacting and dialogue. I'm still learning the finer points of narrating in a way that's not dry or rambling pointlessly, and for what that's worth I'm just better at reacting to things by the seat of my pants
𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐄(𝐒): Absolutely. I'm not gonna say how because I think that spoils the fun in getting to know both myself and Aluhk, but it's a very strong yes from me
