i know this is a long haul video, but it's also an extremely good breakdown of the myth of self-sustainability homesteading and how you should never believe everything you see online or in books. also a little bit about how joel salatin suck ass, actually.

this shit is not easy and it doesn't make money. i am only allowed to do this because my spouse is a software engineer in the video game industry. don't fall for the promise of being able to pay your way via a small farm. the only thing small-scale homesteading gives you is a sense of accomplishment, a connection to your food, and at least one joint injury that you will need to go to physical therapy for. i will never talk anyone out of wanting to grow their own food, because i think it's an extremely good and important thing to do, but i will always encourage you to do it within your means with a realistic vision of that future.

local hardware store sent out a newsletter yesterday saying they had a ton of fruit trees come in stock. come in and ask them how each variety are different.

decided y'know what, elderberry would be nice in the front flower garden instead of the cacti, or the pollinators. i need the expensive ass soil anyway let's go.

i asked nice lady - who i see often and know is in charge of plants - what's the difference between the 5 varieties they had.

"oh, no difference actually. same as if there's a different between apples... blueberries... raspberries... it's all no real difference."

my tounge is bleeding from how much i bit it, holding back a lecture about how winecrisps are the superior apple compared to granny smith or honeycrisp or many others and how each can be catered to different clima--

Struggled with the scale bc I started with Ben and ofc used all available canvas space, then realized I fucked up bc the other lads are much bigger ha. Sooo I had to go in and resize them back into proper scale WOOPS

One thing I love to do whenever I play a new dating sims game is think of the ENDLESS possibilities if the LIs interact with each other. Not just A vs B, C vs D, it's more like, if you throw all A B C D E F G... into one room, what would they do.

I tend to build my own world based on given characters and settings, and that's what I find the most interesting to do and to create for a fandom.

DIY Laundry Detergent

No Soap or Borax

2c baking soda + 2c washing soda + ½c citric acid + ½c salt | use 1Tbsp per load

Horse chestnuts + water (optional)

Horse chestnuts (conkers) + water

Soap, but No Borax

3.5Tbsp grated laundry bar + 3L water + ¼c baking soda | use ½c per load

5oz bar soap + 1c washing soda + 1c baking soda + 1c salt | use 1-2Tbsp per load

1c grated bar soap + 2c washing soda + 1c baking soda | use ¼c per large load

Soap and Borax

1 bar soap + 1c washing soda + 1c borax + 5Gal water | use 2Tbsp per load

2-5oz bar soap + 3c washing soda + 2c borax | use 1/8c per load

3 grated soap bars + 4lb borax + 3lb washing soda + 3.5lb baking soda | use 1-2Tbsp per load

Add white vinegar to soften & fight stains

Make washing soda by baking baking soda! (read link for details)

Baking soda can substitute for borax

Some recipes call for you to boil ingredients together, be sure to check the directions

For dry detergents, make it as fine a powder as possible to make sure it dissolves, and add the powder directly to the washing drum (where the clothes are), not the separate little drawer you put liquid soap in

A little while ago I made some fridge pickles

These guys.

Well they've sat a little longer than need to so tonight we popped them open to try~

They were a little salty, not super crisp. But firm. Taste wise will make again. Has been like by all, so will use the recipe and time wait again.

The jalapeno was similar texture. Good taste.

The onions honestly I feel shone through in texture and taste. I want to amend 2 jars of that for snacking, with jalapeños for hot dog and sandwhich topping, haha.
