a dull ache.
in a new foreign land
filled with chilly winds
verdant green trees
colorful and vibrant flowers
and the chirping birds
i always gawk in awe
as i gazed at nature’s beauty
waterfalls cascading in a cliff
waves clashing against the sand
and the river flowing merrily
the relaxing atmosphere
people coming home early
to spend time with family
or hang out with friends
in their comforting houses
i myself smile at this change
a new environment
flipped a new chapter
starting anew on a fresh slate
but deep in my heart
a dull ache remains.
i would remember where i came from
a land where some of my family is
a land were friends open their arms
a land where i made memories
a land where i belong.
a place where i connected with
smiles, laughs, and even sobs
blending in seamlessly
without climbing a wall
nor being out of the picture.
a place i traversed many times
knowing landmarks like the back of my hand
adventures created here and there
walking with people i value the most
cherishing in shared moment together.
where i can be who i am
with ease and without facade
where i can connect with people
that is as natural as the flowing water
and the rising sun in the horizon.
the melancholy resides within
as i try to ignore it
in this beautiful foreign land
as i keep reminding myself
that this sacrifice is worth something.

Homesick for a place I always knew was not home
Homesick for a place where I would feel alone
Homesick for a place where I could not be understood
Homesick for this place where God felt very good
Homesick for a tongue I do not yet know
Homesick for a place I cannot go
Homesick for a family not born of bone
Homesick for the land where I felt the most at home

away, away
i dragged my foot onwards
despite the persistent ache
weighing down my body and heart
as my head tries to clear itself.
away, away from everything
the grass that i have long trodded on
the banana trees i could see from windows
the humidity i could feel deep within my skin.
the antique chairs that would creak
wooden cabinets and drawers with memories
green curtains and sofas that are airy
a stained kitchen with white tiles.
the smell of delicious adobo
served in generous heaps
on the table with the faded blue cloth
the smell of instant coffee in the air.
the sound of karaoke bouncing off the walls,
with shared smiles and laughters
clinking of glass with either alcohol or juice
with the crunchy sounds of chocolate or chips.
dogs barking outside for strays
and whining for our attention
adorably wagging their tails
as they savored rubs and cuddles.
the little girl on the mirror
with an innocent, wide smile
her eyes so bright, assured
being inside the familiar walls.
however…
the little girl is no more
as she walks away from the house
waving teary goodbyes on one arm
a heavy bag on another.
she, or rather, i knew
i can always return
but only after many moons
as the world beckons me.
but it hurt.
it aches so much
that my heart bleeds
as i wanted nothing more to stay
if life had been kinder.

Okay talking with @cjbolan and she suggested amazingly how Odysseus could have visited Athens as a young man (should I say when he returns from Mesina? Or Parnassus?) He should visit Athens given it is the city linked to his patron goddess ✨️
And now I imagine excited lad Odysseus roaming about the city of Athens (probably even wearing clothes like common folk rather than king) like a freaking religious tourist on his way to discover the city almost practically founded by his patron goddess! Maybe this is the time he genuinely speaks to her in her own temple!
Okay brainstorming ideas for random fanfictions again!

If you trap me in an empty room,
I could call it my home.
Take me somewhere far and beyond
Above the seven skies or below the grey ocean,
I could call it my home.
But as I lay here, in my bed
In my room that is so familiar to me,
I feel homesick.
