Thank you for translating this work and sharing your experience in such a beautiful way! The honour is really all mine.
What an amazing way to work together and make/spread something that we love broader than our own language and country! I appreciate you and everyone who reads and comments so much! 🌿💌
the story that brings hope
I just uploaded the last chapter of my Ukrainian translation of @ao3-kintou's [homesick for a mountain's song] This was an incredible journey and I am infinitely grateful to the author for giving me their permission to do this and to let the Ukrainian community experience the warmth, tenderness, and exhilaration that this story embodies. I will take this opportunity to share some comments I received under my translation on ao3:(translated from Ukrainian to English): "...I reread it a few times already, it brings so much comfort. I want to have faith that it could happen in the real world too, that after all the hardships people could still be happy" "this story warms my heart" "after the stress and the exhaustion the war brings, this story helps me escape reality and find peace" "...it is absolutely the best narusasu work I ever saw" thank you @ao3-kintou for writing such an incredible piece that brings joy, comfort, and hope to everyone who reads it ❤️

Usually fluff and romance give me embarrassed/cringe/stupid grin feels, but I secretly enjoy it sometimes lol. This was really cute and worth a read if you’re into soft sns.
Tumblr media
"As he stared at Naruto’s wide arms he got overwhelmed by how amazingly free Naruto looked. [...]
‘I wish–’ Naruto started. ‘That I could feel this forever.’"
Tumblr media
Ok, so I read Homesick for a Mountain Song by @soft-fics the other day and it's so freaking beautiful! Seriously, the overall sense of calm in it had me mesmerized the whole way through and it's just so sweet and soft and just - ugh. So I got inspired.
Thank you @soft-fics / @alternateuniverse-coffeeshops for the beautiful work of fiction!
And everyone else: Go, go, go, read if you haven't read it. Or go reread if it's been a while. 😁

AO3 Link
Author's Note: TW & Tags will be updated as each chapter comes out, first chapter is just to set up the story & characters. Enjoy!
Chapter 1: Sky Blue Eyes
Those bluebonnets how sweetly they grow
For all the wide prairies they're scattered like snow
They make all the meadows as blue as the skies
Reminding me of my darlings blue eyes
The cow-filled prairies shifted to mountains signaling the train's entrance into District Two as you hummed to the tune of an old song from before Panem’s creation. The sprawling grass sea of District Ten, of your home, disappeared in the distance as you made your way to the heart of Panem.
“Darling, are you listening to me?”
Lifting your head from the rattling window you turned to see your mother looking at you with soft concern.
“Sorry Mama, what were you asking?”
Her hand smoothed over your younger sister Mellona’s curls, making her nuzzle deeper into her side. “I was asking if you were hungry so I could order lunch.”
“That would be nice Mama. Thank you.”
“Alright, call for Agnes if you need anything she’s in the next car,” your mother stands, lays a snoozing Mellona down, before making her way to the dining car.
“Homesick already?” Victoriosa, the eldest, asks from the chaise never taking her eyes off the magazine in her hands.
“Is it that obvious?”
“We always knew we’d have to move to the Capitol.”
“Why now? I thought at least another year or two,” you asked, sinking into the plush leather seat. Victoriosa pauses, looks up at you and for an instant you can see your father’s intense expression staring back at you.
“Papa wants to finally establish himself as a prominent figure in the Capitol. He needs Capitol support if he is to fully absorb the rest of the ranches, you know that,” she states. “This is also our opportunity to reach our full potential, choose our own paths. Once you finish your career you can always return to Ten if you wish but that would be a waste,” she returns to flipping through her magazine.
“Silva, what do you think?” you turn to your only brother who is seated next to you.
He gives a short shrug. “I don’t mind it much as long as I can continue my research,” Silva sighs from behind his thick textbook.
Victoriosa tilts her lithe neck backwards, “Yawnnnnn.” A snort leaves your lips and you’re grateful your mother isn’t nearby to reprimand you for your ‘unladylike’ behavior.
“Biodiversity is the pinnacle of our success as cattle breeders!” Silva scowls.
“I thought you’d be missing a certain milkmaid Carpathia,” Victoriosa smirks and a wild blush spreads under Silva’s glasses.
“Oh like you’ll be missing your ranch hand Bronco,” Silva snaps back.
“There’s always summertime. Plenty of time to catch up,” Victoriosa grins like the cat who got the cream. The three of you burst into a fit of giggles right as Mellona groggily rouses from her nap.
“Are we there yet?”
Another burst of laughter fills the private train car.
It would only take a few more hours before you arrived at the Capitol train station, nightfall falling over the city. Unlike District Ten, not all the stars were visible, the Capitol’s bright lights polluting the sky. Peacekeepers were already stationed to help move all the luggage into the waiting line of cars. Driving through the streets towards your new home, you couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe at the statues in the squares and the towering buildings. Most of all you were excited to finally see your father, it had been almost a month since you had seen him last.
“Papa!”
All of you crashed into Alicio Lupus’ awaiting arms, his rumbling chuckle bouncing off the high marble ceilings of the penthouse. Refugio joins in on the hug with teary eyes, reaching up to press a kiss on her beloved husband’s cheek.
“Welcome home my darlings,” he squeezes you all tighter. Any fear you held disappeared in an instant, as long as you had your family by your side, all would be well.
The first few weeks in the Capitol had been a whirlwind- meeting other Capitol families for dinner, registration for coveted internships and school courses, and endless shopping trips to assure your home and wardrobes were up to Capitol standards. Refugio Lupus wanted only the best for her children, which included constantly coaching you all to leave behind the District Ten accent that made certain words in your vocabulary drawl.
After dinner one day you thought you had finally caught a moment of peace before a knock at your door startled you from your book. Agnes, your family's nanny, rolled in a rack of dresses with Victoriosa in tow. Victoriosa was already dressed in a sleek blood red dress with a mink shawl wrapped around her shoulders.
“What’s all this?”
“We’ve been invited to a soirée to commemorate the end of the 13th Hunger Games. Papa thinks it’s a good chance to introduce us to others in the Capitol’s high society,” Victoriosa swept her arm towards the rack of glittering and ruffled dresses. Nerves made your stomach churn, mouth turning downwards into a frown as you remembered people’s faces this past week when it was revealed you had recently arrived from District Ten. Most look startled before looking at you like you were some exotic bird at the zoo.
“They’ll never accept us.”
A prideful look crossed her face, so similar to your father’s. No wonder your mother said they were cut from the same stone. “They will once we show them we are as refined as they are. As long as you lose that accent of yours you’ll blend in like a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” she grinned, canines glinting in the light of the chandelier. Rolling your eyes you step over to the rack, feeling the fabrics under your fingers. Stopping at a silver dress, the sequins twinkled like stars entrancing you. Agnes helped dress you before getting to work on sweeping your hair up into a fashionable updo. You waved away the highly pigmented makeup, not ready to delve into that side of Capitol fashion quite yet.
“Remember you’re a Lupus. We’re wolves among sheep,” Victoriosa pinches your cheek. The usual calluses that adorned her hands were gone, chemical treatments making them a long forgotten memory.
Wolves among sheep.
Victoriosa’s words replay through your head like a mantra as you step into the grand ballroom behind her and your father. Thankfully your sister was a gifted extrovert, introducing you to the friends she had already made. Soon you found yourself surrounded by members of the new Gamemaker class, a glass of posca in your hand. It took some time but slowly your shoulders loosened and your smile widened, confidence making you stand a bit taller.
Across the ballroom, Coriolanus Snow was repeating his own mantra to himself- Snow always lands on top. A reminder that showing up for another Capitol soirée wasn’t simply a waste of time but another way to show all these sycophants how high he had made it. Now heir to the Plinth fortune he was dressed impeccably. Tigris had helped style him, no more handmade shirts, and the final touch- Grandma’am’s rose pinned to his lapel. Like at most parties he was surrounded by his former classmates who were all desperate to remain in his inner circle- he was an esteemed Gamemaker after all. A glimmer in the distance caught his eye, distracting him from the meaningless chatter before him. He recognized the group as intern Gamemakers but not the young woman, fresh faced and glowing in the candlelight.
“Who is that?” Coriolanus feigned nonchalance as he tilted his head towards her.
Festus Creed followed his gaze, “Don’t you know?”
“How could he know? The Lupus Family only recently decided to establish here in the Capitol,” Pup Harrington said in between bites of hors d'oeuvres. The name rang a bell, stories and information from his various connections coming to mind.
“I believe that’s (Y/N) Lupus. I saw her the other day with her father, Alicio Lupus, at my mother’s bank” Livia Cardew said, inching closer to Coriolanus. “They practically own all the ranches in District Ten, Alicio Lupus’ brother is the Mayor of the District,” Livia whispered, lips coming close to his ear. Festus and Pup exchange an eye roll at her shamelessness and Coriolanus resisted the urge to shrug her off. Offending a Cardew would never bode well.
“She’s district, probably going back and forth from Ten to the Capitol like one of her family’s pigs,” Livia giggled, but it sounded like grating metal in Coriolanus’ ears.
“Don’t forget cows! Oh Panem, I dream about those steaks-,” Pup practically salivated.
“Imagine living all your life in that District, like poor Sejanus,” Festus tutted. Coriolanus immediately bristled at the mention of Sejanus, his icy blue eyes darkening like an impending storm. Festus must have realized his mistake because his eyes widened, apology on the tip of his tongue before Coriolanus cut him off.
“I should go make her acquaintance then,” he announces, ignoring Livia’s scowl. It was an opportune moment he thought as you now stood by the bar alone. Perhaps you would be desperate enough to try and get in his good graces, and offer to introduce him to your father. Coriolanus would be a fool not to recognize the Lupus family’s wealth and influence, they kept the Districts fed and the Capitol fat. Any potential relationship he could make was more support he could need when he would take a position in the Government.
As you took another swig of posca, you thought you had managed to escape more social interactions for the night until a voice made you jump.
“Hello, I’m Coriolanus Snow. Welcome to the Capitol.”
Turning around you looked up at the man’s captivating eyes, as blue as the sky back home. His pink lips curled slightly at the ends as if he was holding in a secret. Blonde hair pushed back in a neat fashion, accentuating his cheekbones. For a moment you were speechless. Remembering yourself, you gave him your name but you had a feeling he already knew it.
“Pleasure to meet you Coriolanus Snow.”
His stomach swooped. Coriolanus swore he heard a familiar lilt in your voice, but it was not as strong as Lucy Gray’s and those in District Twelve. No, yours was smoother and made your pronunciation of his name sound like it was dipped in warm honey.
“How are you finding the Capitol?”, he forces himself to ask, to ignore those dangerous thoughts.
“It's something...definitely not like back home,” you look around at the extravagant decor.
“Ah yes, District Ten. I’ve never made my way there but I’ve heard wonderful things,” the lie flows smoothly past his lips. “How grateful you must feel to finally be brought to us.”
Coriolanus would never miss a chance at making anyone District born feel inferior, all the posca he had been drinking making him loose lipped tonight. Indignation made your hands tingle, but you took a deep breath and clenched the glass tighter in your hands to ground you.
“I’m surprised you weren’t assigned there as a Peacekeeper. I suppose wherever the songbird called from you followed,” you replied, taking a demure sip from your glass, relishing in the way his jaw tensed. You knew who he was, his story with Lucy Gray Baird. Victoriosa had heard it all from a friend and had no qualms in passing the gossip down to you. If he was going to throw thinly veiled insults you’d have to show him you wouldn’t take them lying down.
“There’s that famous Lupus bite I’ve heard about,” he grins, taking a step closer to you. The scent of roses fills your nose, the sudden proximity to him making a blush rise up your neck. His hand reached out, moving to push a piece of hair behind your ear but the moment was broken when Victoriosa called out for you, pointing to your father who was making his way out the doors.
“If you’ll excuse me it’s time for me to get home. I’m sure our paths will cross again,” you murmured softly, dipping your head in farewell. Coriolanus stepped back with a slight bow, eyes never straying from your figure as you sauntered away. Oh yes, like two stars crossing in the night sky, you would meet again. Coriolanus would make sure of it.

What genre of music do you think ACGSZ would like best? What would be their favorite song(s)?
Sephiroth: Gothic rock because nothing says "I have complicated feelings about my place in the world" quite like orchestral arrangements mixed with heavy guitar. He likes classical music and gravitates toward things like Moonlight Sonata. Also, organ music. Not in a religious way, just in a "this sounds like something I'd listen to while waiting for the universe to whisper its cruelest truths" kind of way.
Genesis: Musical theater, art rock, classical (specifically opera, because of course), and has a secret pop playlist named "DO NOT OPEN - MISSION BRIEFS" filled with ff7's version of Britney Spears and Lady Gaga. Claims to not like country, but he secretly does, because he's their resident farm boy. His favorite track is no doubt something from Loveless.
Angeal: Classic rock, any type of rock tbh. There's just something about the power and honesty in rock music that clicks with him. He's got a soft spot for country too, the twang of a guitar, the voice that sounds like it's been through the wringer, and lyrics that speak of heartbreak, hard work, and finding peace in the struggle.
Zack: Literally everything. Will unironically listen to chocobo warks remixed into dubstep. Has a playlist called "SQUATS!!!" that has every single genre of music known to man. Favorite track: changes every 2.5 seconds, current favorite is probably something called "Epic Moogle Bass Drops Vol.3"
Cloud: He likes soft piano, acoustic guitar, and those slow, ambient tracks that sound like they're made to drift away to. Rock music is also great, but he needs to be in the mood for it. Has a secret playlist of mountain folk songs he listens to when homesick.

for day 5 of agnekari week: bewildering grace! ❤️🧡 you are challenged by young couple hikari and agnea‼️
pkmn nicknames and explanations under the cut:
Hikari
Suiren (Samurott): One of Hikari's first Pokémon. Evolves into a Samurott when he fights Mugen.
Explanation:
"A master of a sword-drawing art called iaijutsu, Samurott settles its battles with a single swing of either large sword sheathed in its foreleg armor." "Hard of heart and deft of blade, this rare form of Samurott is a product of the Pokémon's evolution in the region of Hisui. Its turbulent blows crash into foes like ceaseless pounding waves." Hisuian form is used as a reference to Shadow Hikari.
Aylin (Sceptile - Mega Evolution): One of Hikari's first Pokémon. Named by Kura. Can Mega Evolve. Evolves alongside Suiren during Hikari's battle with Mugen.
Explanation:
"The leaves on its arms are as sharp as swords. It agilely leaps about the branches of trees to strike its enemies." Also. Um. Have you played PMD2. Grovyle is there.
Chizu (Skarmory): A common Pokémon seen in Ku. Guided Hikari to safety when he ran away from home.
Explanation:
"People fashion swords from Skarmory's shed feathers, so this Pokémon is a popular element in heraldic designs." Trainers in Ku admire Skarmory for its strength and steel feathers!
Kosei (Clefable): Caught in the Crestlands on the way to Montwise as a Cleffa.
Explanation:
"Some scientists believe that it gazes intently at the sky on nights with a full moon because it's homesick." Found by Hikari as a Cleffa and grew strong through his caring approach to Pokémon training.
Haruto (Gallade): Caught near Wellgrove as a Kirlia.
Explanation:
"The blades extending from its elbows are sharper than the finest swords. Its swordsmanship, albeit self-taught, is astonishingly impressive." "When trying to protect someone, it extends its elbows as if they were swords and fights savagely." "Sharply attuned to others' wishes for help, this Pokémon seeks out those in need and aids them in battle."
Shimo (Mudsdale): Caught on the way to Stormhail.
Explanation:
"It remains calm and unmoving no matter the situation. It mixes dirt with the saliva in its mouth to make a special kind of mud." Also Hikari is 100% a horse-loving guy… Not giving him a Rapidash though, I imagine he has an aversion to fire.
Agnea
Joy (Brionne): Agnea's first Pokémon. A child of her mother's Primarina.
Explanation:
I mean have you seen Brionne. "It gets excited when it sees a dance it doesn't know. This hard worker practices diligently until it can learn that dance."
Gala (Tepig): A rampaging Pokémon that Agnea calmed down before a festival.
Explanation:
The Duorduor from CH1.
Hope (Hisuian Lilligant - Shiny): Caught in New Delsta as a Petilil.
Explanation:
"I suspect that its well-developed legs are the result of a life spent on mountains covered in deep snow. The scent it exudes from its flower crown heartens those in proximity." Attacks with strong kicks, like Agnea.
Merry (Altaria - Mega Evolution): Hatched from an egg given to her by Garud. Born in Tropuhopu, shortly after Agnea decides to go to Merry Hills. Agnea receives a Mega Ring upon winning the Grand Gala.
Explanation:
"Altaria sings in a gorgeous soprano. Its wings are like cotton clouds. This Pokémon catches updrafts with its buoyant wings and soars way up into the wild blue yonder."
Glimmer (Glossifleur): Caught in the Brightlands while Agnea was journeying to Merry Hills.
Explanation:
"It anchors itself in the ground with its single leg, then basks in the sun. After absorbing enough sunlight, its petals spread as it blooms brilliantly." "It whirls around in the wind while singing a joyous song. This delightful display has charmed many into raising this Pokémon."
Jubilee (Flygon): Caught in Ryu as a Trapinch during D&W1
Explanation:
"Flygon whips up a sandstorm by flapping its wings. The wings create a series of notes that sound like singing. Because the "singing" is the only thing that can be heard in a sandstorm, this Pokémon is said to be the desert spirit."

I see you wanted some request... May i suggest Baldwin laying his head on reader's lap and sharing a romantic moment? Maybe reader reading some poetry for Balwin and some soft kissses in his gloved hand. Just if you want, of course.
Have a nice day ♡
Shallows
Tumblr media
A/N: This is inspired by the song “Shallows” by Daughter just in case you wanna listen to it! Also the poem is a shortened version of “Anim Zemirot” which is a Jewish liturgical poem. I thought it fit nicely cause often the love we share with others brings us closer to God and sometimes God reflects in other people to bring out the best in us🤍
The stifling Jerusalem heat was something she would surely never get used to.
She was born in a place far from the holy land, raised in a land that was so far she doubted she’d ever see it again.
A land where snow would fall and cover the mountains and endless meadows in a thick coating of white.
Sometimes she missed her home which now seemed impossibly far away, and everything in her new home couldn’t have been more different.
The first few months she had cried a lot, she had been homesick to a point where she could hardly eat, unsure about her fate of being the new queen of the kingdom of heaven.
It was such a heavy weight that lasted upon her shoulders at such a young age.
It was burden that threatened to crush her whenever she would wake in the mornings and yet, when she thought the sun would never rise for her again, a single ray of light made its way into her heart.
Her husband had always been so gentle and patient with her, coaxing her out of her shell when she shut herself away, bringing a small tray of her favourite cakes and spiced tea into her room.
He was so gentle, so kind and fair and so different from what her mother had told her about the ways of men.
He was exactly what a king should be and there had been so many before him, older and more experienced too but their glory faded in comparison to Baldwin.
She had never minded that he was sick, a part of her hoping he would leave her alone to lament his fate and yet she found herself to be pleasantly surprised when he didn’t.
It had taken time for her to get used to his presence and the duties that came with being a queen but she would have been a fool to keep him on a distance forever.
She simply couldn’t.
Not when he would sit by the side of her bed when she refused to leave her chambers for the first week, not when he would never raise his voice or have any demands other than to at least try to give this new life a chance.
A hour of him sitting on the edge of her bed had soon turned into more.
Spending the evenings playing chess or visiting the gardens at sundown, talking of books from lands far away, myths and stories or battles that had been fought long ago.
She simply couldn’t keep this gentle and soft-spoken young man at arms length.
One night however he didn’t come to her chambers.
She waited for the sun to set but even then, no trace of him.
Perhaps he had grown tired of her stubbornness.
Perhaps he had grown tired of her self pity?
And how could he not?
His fate was much more agonising than hers, his existence was a matter of life and death every day, only alive and breathing by the grace of god.
She felt like a fool to cause such an ordeal in front of the man who suffered each day, bearing his cross yet being so kind to her.
She was tossing at turning in her bed.
It was hot and the silken sheets that wrapped around her body so softly even felt too heavy at this point, too hot, too tight.
It was no use crying now, she decided chewing on the inside of her cheek thoughtfully while slowly climbing out of her bed.
The marble floor was pleasantly cold underneath her bare feet as she slipped through the darkened hallways of the palace, quiet as a cat, a burning candle in one hand a book in the other.
She knew the way to Baldwins chambers.
He had shown her on the first day she arrived, explaining she would be welcome at any time of day or night no matter the reasoning.
And this reasoning was very important, she was sure.
She would head inside and apologise.
She would apologise and ask if she could read to him the way he had read to her so often.
She would say how sorry she was for being so ignorant and selfish, how she was sure she would do her very best from now on to be a proper queen and wife.
However as soon as she knocked softly and slipped past the guards with an apologetic smile the words died in her throat.
His chambers were dimly lit by candles, a faint trace of sandal wood lingering in the air.
Here it was cooler than elsewhere in the palace, to help his weary lungs breathe.
He was laying in bed, on his back.
His hands were freshly bandaged, his face too now that he was not wearing a mask and she could smell the herbal ointments.
Quietly she stepped closer but still he noticed her, raising his head as his eyes widened and she was sure had never seen a man this worried in her life.
“I am so truly sorry I was not able to visit you my beautiful darling”
When he spoke she had to step even closer to hear his voice, so soft and quiet that it easily could have passed as a hushed wind.
“I have developed a fever, nothing grave yet my physicians refuse to let me leave my chambers” he explained, a sorrowful look on his face.
“I had sent for a servant to inform you about the situation..did no one tell you at all?”
In that moment all of her hesitance, fear and standoffish thoughts melted away and instead her heart soared with an unfamiliar feeling.
It had first started faintly in her stomach when he would offer her his arm in the gardens a while ago but this was a much more intense feeling.
So intense it almost hurt yet in such a strangely beautiful way and she could feel the tears stinging in her eyes.
“Please do not apologise..it is I who should tell you how sorry I am” her voice was a mere whisper, strained and she licked her lips to wet them before slowly climbing into his bed, so careful not to hurt him.
She looked up, facing the guards by the door.
“Please leave us”
She rarely ever addressed them but now she did, her timid voice so loud against the quiet of his chambers that it nearly startled her.
Baldwin seemed curious by the way she was behaving and even more so when she spoke again as soon as the guards had left and closed the heavy door behind them.
“I want to apologise” she started quietly but her voice got more sure the more she spoke.
“I want to apologise for having been so difficult when I know you are feeling much worse than I. I have never wanted to be a burden to you or make your days more difficult than they are already”
When she had first started talking she avoided his gaze but now she looked at him, truly, for the first time ever and despite the fact she could only see his eyes she knew underneath the bandages he was smiling.
“An angel sent from heaven could never be a burden to me” he whispered back, reaching out to place his bandages hand on hers so very softly.
Her vision became blurry with tears and yet she smiled, gently squeezing his hand back and oh how she thanked the almighty to have given her a husband as gentle and righteous as hers.
She slipped underneath the covers, nuzzling into him hoping he could forgive her but the way he held her close made her feel like there was nothing to forgive at all.
After a short while they had settled in comfortably and now it was her turn to return all the affection, love and care he had showered her with in the last few weeks.
His head was heavy, resting in her lap and his eyes were shut as she gently traced her fingers over his bandages face, every now and then raising his hand to her lips to kiss it.
A fever was always worse at night but she hoped her presence would bring him at least a small sense of comfort, even if it was the least she could do.
Her plan however seemed to work just fine, his breathing slower, less laboured and his limbs had relaxed, his free arm wrapped around her as if he were scared she would leave.
She wouldn’t, never again.
“Would you like me to read to you? I finished one of the books you gifted me and when I read one poem I was reminded of you” she admitted, somewhat glad the dimly lit room disguised the flushing cheeks that came with how she hated herself emotionally.
She wasn’t worried he would make fun of her though, he never had made her feel uncomfortable and now it was on her to make him feel just as safe.
His response was a faint nod and a whisper, his blue eyes opening and he looked at her with so much adoration that she could feel her heart ache once more
“Yes please..”
She was eager to comply, not wasting a second she straightened up a little, opening the book she had brought, flipping through the pages until she found what she had been looking for.
With care she tilted the book in a way for the torches on the walls to hit the paper in a way that would make it possible for her to read.
When she did, her voice was quiet and she made no pause, only rubbing his hand through the bandages.
The way he squeezed her hand back made her stomach flutter, sure that he could feel her touch.
“Melodies I weave, songs I sweetly sing;
longing for Your Presence, to You I yearn to cling.
In Your shelter would my soul delight to dwell,
to grasp Your mystery, captured by Your spell.
Thus I glorify You in speech as in song,
declaring with my love: to You do I belong.
The scope of your greatness and he marvel of Your strength
are reflected in Your actions all described at length.
Youth and force in battle, old age on judgment day;
like a seasoned warrior, with strength He clears the way.
He wears triumph as a helmet on His head,
His power and holiness have stood Him in good stead.
May my prayer rise to the Creator of the miracle of birth,
Master of beginnings whose might and justice fill the earth.
May You find sweet and pleasing my prayer and my songs;
my soul goes out in yearning, for You alone it longs.”
Silence stretched out near torturously when she had finished reading and neither of them said a word.
She felt embarrassed all of the sudden, awkward having read a poem filled with devotion and yearning such as this, both for him and for God but when she looked down into his face all of those feelings faded.
His eyes were open, glossy with adoration and a sheer layer of tears and she could have sworn she had never seen a sight this beautiful.
No matter the illness, no matter the bandages and physical fragility that seemed to drain him, none of that could take his beauty away.
His voice broke when he spoke and she was so taken aback it took her a moment to recognise his words were a quote from the poem she had read
“..declaring with my love: to You do I belong..this poem is about the Lord is it not?”
She smiled faintly, shutting the book as she placed it down on the small table next to the bed.
“It is..it reminded me of you. Of how brave and good you are and I cannot help but feel as if the Lord wanted us to cross paths. Your love turns me into a better person Baldwin. When I am with you I feel as close to him as I have ever felt before”
His hand squeezed hers just a little tighter and he took a deep breath before he continued
“Sometimes I cannot comprehend the Heavenly Father and his mysterious ways. I used to think my illness was a way for him to punish me, scorn me for my sins but how could I ever doubt his justness, his everlasting grace and love when he granted me the time I get to spend with you?”

i was wondering, how long did it take to write homesick for a mountain’s song? :3 also, what is your writing process like if you don’t mind sharing <333
Hello! Thank you for your question ((:
I always write chapter by chapter, and upload them right away. So only the first chapter was finished when I first uploaded Homesick. Which means that it took me about 3+ months to finish it, from april to july!
I'm, I guess, what they call an "instinctive" writer, I just start writing and see how it'll go from there. Very often, I have a small idea while daydreaming, when in the shower or when having a little break (for example: oh! sasuke should have a little black cat come in, and adopt it stubornly) and I go from there. I write everything around that small idea. Very often I write in one sitting (from morning until midnight) and then I re-read it the next day and add some things. These days @kemperrose beta-reads my works, which I'm grateful for, but with homesick I just spelchecked myself a day or two after (and it shows hahah).
I also try to read books that match the story!
Fanfiction writing is really my hobby, so I try not to be hard on myself. I don't try to write something perfect. I used to, tbh, but I wrote Homesick for a mountain's song in a covid lockdown, burned out and while graduating, so this story was completely self indulgent. I hadn't expected people to love it this much. I'm really grateful for it.

Eternally Missed, Bilbo Baggins
Song link
Fanfic, fem! reader
Fluff, mutual pining/oblivious reader
Word count: 3295
Tw: Not proofread. Race not specified, but could be implied as dwarvish. Self-degrading thoughts, mutual pining. Will they, won’t they. Slight angst. Misinterpreted feelings and actions. Oblivious reader, oops. That’s it?
Summary: Ever since laying eyes on your first, Bilbo knew it was you who he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He tries to make this clear incredibly quick, fully aware of how little time he may have. But you were as oblivious as they came, and dismissed his proposals as platonic gestures. Until finally, he snaps, and just decides to tell you.

“Chase your dreams away.
Glass needles in the hay.”
Throughout the journey, you could only be described as truly oblivious. Maybe not in your eyes, but definitely in those of the company. Their beloved burglar had fallen absolutely head over heels with you, yet there was something within you that simply seemed to not acknowledge it.
In hindsight, you might have seen it, or might have had a slight idea of what was happening, but the last thing you wanted to do was to get your hopes up. Thus, it was mere matter of a polite smile and dismissal without making it sound like a dismissal. You didn’t want to let him down, even though you had no idea of his true intentions.
You see, during the entire time of your travel to Erebor, Bilbo has tried to make it abundandly clear how fond he is of you. But between the running from imminent death, enemies luring around every corner and getting imprisoned every once in a while, the moments were never opportune enough. It didn’t mean that he didn’t try, but clearly, the ambiance was wrong. If he ever wanted to court someone, he’d propose it in his garden, under the clear nightsky of Hobbiton with a warm breeze in the air. Not after recovering for breath after having to run for thirty whole minutes, or in the dirty atmosphere of the Goblin caves. But fate did not seem to be on his side whatsoever. But he was nothing if not adamant.
“The sun forgives the clouds.
You are my holy shroud.”
The first time wanted to make his intentions clear during your stay in Rivendell. The dwarves had been bathing when he approached you, doubt and anxiety apparent in his features - but then again, when wasn’t it?
He had sat down next to you on one of the balconies, talking about anything but the mountain and the now known presence of the orcs. He had spoken about his home in the Shire fondly, recounting many tales of friends and neighbours. It was a nice distraction after the adrenaline of the travel had worn off.
In turn, you had spoken about your home and those waiting for you. He remembered the hesitance in his voice when he asked you about a suitor. You hadn’t even properly answered him at that to begin with. At first, you began to laugh, and talked about your parents. He thought you were mocking him, even though that was extremely unlinke you. But when you continued to rant and talk, it appeared to him that you had no idea what he was actually asking you. And he didn’t have it in him to correct you or to properly ask you. Perhaps it was a bit too early. You just met a handful of days ago.
Fortunately, he did not leave it at that.
“I just don't care if it's real.
That won't change how it feels.”
The second time he tried was when the group was making their way out of Rivendell. He had gotten some good rest and found himself comfortable enough to bring the conversation back up.
But you were distracted. He couldn’t tell back then, but he certainly could now. The talk with Bilbo had left you somewhat homesick. The comfort of Rivendell was almost begging for you to stay. You wanted to help the dwarves - more than anything, but you understood the comfort hobbits sought in their own homes.
You had given him brief, one-worded answers, your gaze absent. It had broken his heart that day. If you weren’t making your disinterest clear the day before, you certainly had then. It caused him to be silent for the rest of the travels until you crossed the mountains. Much to his relief, you stayed close to him, and didn’t part during the fight of the giants, but the new hit of adrenaline caused him to cling to you the entire time, a mutual action. Neither of you had realized how close the two of you were until you were roughly separated after a rough boulder collided between the two of you.
“I just don't care if it's real.
That won't change how it feels.
No, it doesn't change.”
That night in the cave you kept circling Bilbo. He had almost fallen from the cliff if it hadn’t been for Thorin. And the idea made you inexplicably sick. You liked Thorin, even as he had been harsh from the start, but the fact that you weren’t able to dangle off the cliff to save Bilbo had left you feeling somewhat powerless. And the only comfort you could offer the hobbit was your company and your tales.
It had caused his hopes to resurface again. Of everyone out there, you wanted to sit with him, and talk with him. Perhaps your absent answers were simply because you were tired, or too focused.
He didn’t know how to bring the topic back up, though. It had caused an awkward silence after you finished your talk. He still couldn’t quite tell if he was grateful for the floor to - literally - fall through or not.
“And you can't resist
Making me feel eternally missed.”
The first time he swore he could have kissed you, was after Azog’s confrontation with Thorin. The battle had left the king defenseless, and you had rushed to his aid. At your actions, Bilbo blindly followed, making sure his eyes were on you constantly. The eagles had come just in time to sweep you off to safety, but the entire flight had left him nauseous. If it wasn’t for Gandalf, both you and Thorin would have lain on that floor, completely lifeless. To make matters even worse, you had landed on a different eagle. So, Bilbo had no choice but to simply sit there with a heavy feeling in his stomach until he could finally stand again.
And when he did, he rushed towards you. This could have been his moment. He could have swung his arms around your waist, pulling you close to him, his lips finally touching yours in a manner he was only able to dream off, but when you stood a few inches from him, something in him had told him to stop.
In that moment, you swore he was going to kiss you. Instead, he gave you an uncomfortable hug, followed by two brief pats on the back. He had turned around immediatelym refusing to let you see his reddening face, leaving you with a slight frown. If he was going to kiss you, you might have just let it happen.
“And you can't resist.
And you can't resist.
Making me feel.”
The rest of the journey had been awful for him. In his mind, that awkward reunion kept lingering. His chance had been right there and he refused to take it for whatever reason. And to top it all of; you seemed to grow more distant from him, and it hurt him deeply. It bothered him so much, that eventually, the company began catching on. Fili was the first one to notice, and had given him a good talk about courtship and whatnot. It was all in good nature, but it had left Bilbo with more details than he might have wanted.
But simple hints in conversation seemed to not do the trick. And maybe dwarven courting ideals weren’t the best, but they were certainly worth the try. When he made his first move according to Fili’s advice, more dwarves began to catch on.
“Chase your dreams away.
Glass needles in the hay.”
He had taken his sweet time hunting down anything he could find. Food, especially for you, to prove that - in Fili’s words - he could provide. But when he had a chance of slaying a rabbit, he didn’t have it in him. Instead, he came back with fresh mushroom, some non-poisonous berries and leaves that would make an excellent soup. It wasn’t hunting, but it still gave him the idea that - yes; he could provide.
You didn’t think much of. You find it nice, and thanked him fondly for it. Yet, there were others in the company that might have been hungry, so you gave it to Bombur, so he could use it in his meal for the group. Bilbo had told you this was okay, but he couldn’t help but feel slight heartbreak when you asked him.
He wasn’t being clear enough. Stupidly enough, he seemed to take comfort in Fili’s words, so he had returned to him that same night, telling the dwarf about what had happened. He agreed that you might just need some bolder insinuations. So, it was time for the next part.
“The sun forgives the clouds.
You are my holy shroud.”
It was at Beorn’s house when he approached you with a small wooden sculpture he made. It couldn’t have been bigger than your palm. It was sloppy and crude, and nowhere near the excellent craft of the dwarves, but Fili assured him that it wouldn’t matter if the feelings and intentions were true. He had tried to create the birds you mentioned in your tales about home. You would speak about them fondly when he asked how your place was.
Again, you accepted the gift with much glee, thanking him an endless amount of times. A warm hug was shared - one that would remain in Bilbo’s mind for a long time. It was soothing, unlike the uncomfortable embrace shared upon the rock. This was heartfelt, and genuine. He remembered thinking that this was it; you had accepted.
But, you stuffed it in your pocket, promising to keep it close, before showing it off to the rest of the company. And that was it. No other words mentioned to him, or even slight hints that you were catching on. You seemed to remain oblivious. Now, Bilbo truly couldn’t tell whether this was because you simply had no idea what was happening, or if this was your way of letting him know you weren’t interested.
“I just don't care if it's real.
That won't change how it feels.”
There were so many more times where he tried to make his feelings clear. Countless conversations were held, more gifts were shared, he fought at your side, he would continue to bring you food, even if it was to be shared with the company. And you didn’t seem to catch on to anything.
What Bilbo hadn’t known was the true moment of the defeat you held whilst imprisoned by the woodland elves. Bilbo hadn’t known how you had been sitting against the wall in your cell, your knees up to your chest. He didn’t hear your own degrading words circling around in your mind about how you were just making things up. About how someone as sincere and kind as Bilbo could never show true interest in someone like you. How you had cursed yourself to stop thinking every gift he gave you, was to show you he wanted to court you - even though you were right to think those things.
The dwarves didn’t dare to speak about it. They didn’t know your words, but they knew your looks. They wouldn’t intervene. They knew how precious and fragily courtship was; one wrong word and it could cause huge grief on either side. Women were most treaured in their culture, and they’d rather die than see your heart break into a million pieces if Fili were to slip up or Ori would say something out of their norms.
They didn’t dare to let Bilbo know how helplessly you had told them that Bilbo wouldn’t come for them. That he was off to safety - as you had wished.
“I just don't care if it's real.
That won't change how it feels.
No, it doesn't change.”
It wasn’t until Smaug had finally been slain that Bilbo decided enough was enough. It wasn’t until Thorin had gone completely mad, that he decided that now would be the excellent time to share yet another one of your precious conversations.
Somewhere in the treasure chamber, you had collapsed behind a huge golden pile. Here, Thorin couldn’t see you. A brief break would surely escape his eyes.
You had shot up at the sound of footsteps, pretending to be searching through the endless piles of jewels. You were tired; your muscles were aching, your head was pounding from the golden light, you were starving and you felt as if you were going to fall asleep if you were to lie down again.
When you noticed Bilbo’s form approaching on top of the mountain you were working on, you uttered a sigh of relief, collapsing once again, knowing he wouldn’t dare to alert Thorin of your short break.
“And you can't resist
Making me feel eternally missed.”
“There you are,” He spoke, not needing to lower his volume, as the clattering of gold bounced off the walls, drowning out enough noise. You looked up at him with a kind smile: “Not much else to go to.” He frowned, sitting down beside you as he studied your features.
“I’m sorry, Bilbo,” You sighed, rolling your shoulders. “I’m exhausted.” “I can tell.” He muttered, worried evident in his eyes, a glimpse you caught. “Sorry.” “No, it’s fine.” You dismissed, knowing he had no ill intentions. Silence fell over the two of you, though this one wasn’t uncomfortable. In the weirdest location, it brough some sense of peace.
Bilbo fished into his pockets, placing a piece of bread and a small flask on your lap. “I brought you this.” Your heart warmed at the sight, a feather-light feeling entering your chest: “Thank you,” “I couldn’t sneak a full plate in. Thorin would notice.” “This is fine, Bilbo,” You assured, immediately starting your small meal. ”Thank you.”
“Yes,” he mumbled.
“You can't resist.
You can't resist.
Making me feel.”
He didn’t quite know what to do when you were eating. He came here with the intention of being honest with you. No turning around anything, no sugar-coating, just the proposal. If it was to be brief and boring, than so be it.
But, once more, something held him back. It didn’t seem right. He was going to run off this night for the Arkenstone, so if you rejected him, he wouldn’t really have to face you afterwards. But a hurtful rejection followed by betrayal might not have been the smartest move either. He was too much in his head when the words suddenly flew out, even surprising him: “Do you like me?”
You stopped chewing at the words, swallowing harshly as you looked at him, confusion in your eyes as your eyebrows furrowed together: “Beg your pardon?”
“You can't resist
Making me feel eternally missed.”
Bilbo recovered quickly, coughing slightly as he tried to defend himself. “It’s just that, throughout the journey, you keep creating distance between us. And we were so close at the beginning.” You nodded your head at that, cursing yourself silently for giving him the completely wrong idea. “Yes,” You hissed. “I do like you, Bilbo. And I apologize if I gave you the wrong impression.”
A huge weight lifted off his shoulders at your words, his chest suddenly feeling a lot less restricting than it suddenly had.
“You can't resist.
You can't resist
Making me feel.”
He watched your hands wander to your pockets, pulling out a familiar pebble as you anxiously toyed with it. Bilbo had given it to you after your escape from Mirkwood. You seemed to not be there completely, so he gave you a rock from the river so you had something to fidget with while Balin talked to Bard. He hadn’t known how much it actually soothed you, if only for the simple though of it.
“You kept that?” He asked curiously. “Of course I did,” You smiled, taking the pebble out of your pocket and laying it in the palm of your hand. “It was a gift. What did you think I would do with it?” “I don’t know.” The hobbit spoke honestly. “I’ve never seen them after I handed them to you.”
You breathed an ‘ah’ of understanding, before storing it back in your coat. “I kept them in my bag. Most of it has been stolen by the elves now, but some things still remain. You didn’t think I’d get rid of them, right?” When he didn’t answer to that, your hands found his, unconsciously sending goosebumps up his arm: “I would never. Not voluntarily.”
“Thank you.” He muttered.
“And you can't resist
Making me feel eternally missed.”
“Bilbo,” You began, retreating your hands as you thought over all that he had done for you. You might have been oblivious, but you weren’t stupid: “I do not wish to give you any unwanted impression of anything, but…” You trailed off, holding your breath as a bad kind of butterflies entered your stomach. “You have given me many things and kept me safe a numerous amount of times, and my gratitude exceeds my words, but…”
You didn’t know what to tell him. You didn’t know how. And there was no way to bring it lightly. Thus, with a hard swallow, you threw it out. “You do know that your actions look an awful lot like dwarven courting customs? I am pretty sure the company is convinced I am your spouse.”
His breath hitched at that. He came here to tell you, and now you were starting his conversation. What was he going to tell you? Honesty seemed so difficult now, but there was something in your eyes that hadn’t been there before. Some faint glance of recognition. And it gave him confidence: “They are.” He breathed, before quickly correcting himself. “Courting customs. Fili taught me.” “Oh,” “Yes,”
A second silence laid heavily, and neither of you really knew what to say to the other. So, per usual, Bilbo took the lead after a handful of hesitant seconds. “Um, but I’ve probably gotten the wrong hints from you so-”
“No,” You denied. “No, no, no. It’s simply that…This was intentional?”
“Yes.”
“Oh,”
“And you can't resist
Making me feel eternally missed.”
“But I understand if the feelings aren’t returned.” Bilbo added, already standing up from his seat. He was about to leave when your voice forced him to turn around: “Why me?” He couldn’t help but let a quiet scoff of confusion out. “I’m sorry?” “Of all the people out there, why me?”
Why you? He really couldn’t tell. He hadn’t met anyone in the Shire, and the way his life would have gone if it hadn’t been for Gandalf showing up, he might have never found anyone. Why you? He didn’t know. And he was honest to voice it: “I just know.”
“Oh,” You repeated, the sound coming out more as a breath than a pronounced word. “I am sorry. I wasn’t blind, though I doubt that will make you feel better.” You admitted. “I didn’t want to imagine things that weren’t there.” You didn’t see the way Bilbo’s face softened at that, or the way his heart fluttered when you finally spoke those words. “Thought I would save myself the heartbreak.” “You didn’t have to.” He sighed. Once more, he prepared to leave. And once more, he was interrupted by you.
“Bilbo?” “Hm?” He hummed as he turned around, a faint glimpse of hope in his heart. It only grew as you asked him your next question: “Once we get out of this, where will we go?” A bright smile came from his face as his breath hitched significantly. “Home, I suppose.”
You copied his smile, nodding your head at him.
“I’d like that.”
“And you can't resist.
And you can't resist
Making me feel.”

rambling about songs my brain associates with isat (pt. 1)
[woe, spoilers be upon ye!]
i have a 250+ song isat playlist. I am unhealthily obsessed with finding new songs to put in it. Here's a few that make me go absolutely batshit insane.
I've already rambled about this one on my art account a while back, but this song is so insanely loop-coded....
I'm standing on a stage Of fear and self-doubt It's a hollow play, But they'll clap anyway
You could give me any song that has some kind of reference to plays or theatre and I could probably find a way to make it about isat. but specifically this makes me think about twohats and how loop views their place in the world as a performance, a pawn, not even a character but a plot device... yeah
I'm living in an age That calls darkness light Though my language is dead Still the shapes fill my head I'm living in an age Whose name I don't know Though the fear keeps me moving, Still my heart beats so slow
I probably don't have to break this one down for you, but yeah, Island North of Vaugarde, the forgotten language... "still the shapes fill my head" has always in my mind referenced the stars and constellations, and how they're familiar but foreign...
-
thanks to @/ricecaqes and their trust ceremony animatic, this song lives in my head rent free. Even just as a whole this song is SO isat for me. literally from the first fucking lines:
Will I know when I’ve gone too far? Or frozen myself in time? An impossible brain with impossible wants Lost and astray, with impossible thoughts
like. it really can't get much more nail on the head than that?
then you got this:
So cold, I’m freezing Every piece of praise and sign that I’m believed in Solid in a crystal ball It bends the waves of the light to mend the rest of my life
and literally the first time I heard this song i paused it and said, out loud, "OH FUCK." Because. it's act 5 siffrin. Like, the slow descent into despair followed by the determination that the only way to perserve the life and the family they love is to keep them with him, to do the exact same thing the king did...
Do you also see your future starting with the farthest part? Live your life to close the space between the end and start And when it’s hard, do you hang onto any chance That you might be in control? That you’re the one who owns
For one, once you reach the end of act 2, you're constantly aware of the head housemaiden being as far as you can go, and then you're planning around it the entire time.
And then, you have. siffrin grasping for any kind of control they can have over the situation, desperately. and failing repeatedly because they simultaneously think that they are undeserving of getting what they ultimately want... yeah...
i won't go into the rest of the lyrics because honestly it's pretty well covered by the animatic but. yeah trust ceremony my sweet beloved.
-
rest in peace siffrin no middle no last name, you would have loved the mountain goats.
yeah uh. this one is also pretty high up on songs that make me go "damn that's siffrin alright".
I am this great, unstable mass of blood and foam And no one in her right mind would make my home her home My heart's an autoclave
i think for me it's the idea of siffrin feeling like they're nothing, and even if they are something or someone, they are bad, worse than bad, worthless. also referencing homesickness.... yeah...
When I try to open up to you I get completely lost Houses swallowed by the earth, windows thick with frost And I reach deep down within, but the pathways twist and turn And there's no light anywhere, and nothing left to burn
I mean, this one is also pretty self-evident. siffrin losing hope while being stuck in the house... wanting to connect with the party but being completely uncapable of doing so out of the sheer terror of being left behind... act 5, with the house literally warping...
I dreamt that I was perched atop a throne of human skulls On a cliff above the ocean, howling wind and shrieking seagulls And the dream went on forever, one single static frame Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name
siffrin feels responsible for the loops, every aspect of them. their deaths, their party-member's deaths, their failures, everything. and in the end, all they really wanted was for someone to truly see them? to have a family, to not be left behind and forgotten by the world.... the importance of names and siffrin's name in particular in the story also makes this hit home for me.
-
for brevity's sake i'll just start with these three- if people are interested in hearing me justify my insane music choices i'll probably do more.... for now, see ya!

everything is hazy and maybe it's from the sticky sweet smoke of the joint they're sharing, but the thick tennessee humidity isn't helping matters. the night air feels heavy, clinging to their bare arms and foreheads like laying in quicksand, and it makes it hard for things to feel light. it all feels important, from the blades of grass in the field tickling the backs of eddie's knees as he lays propped up on his elbows to the stars shimmering above them to the sounds of nature chirping them a love song in time with his heartbeat.
"y'know," eddie starts, turning to look at steve by dropping his head to the side. the rusted arm of the lawn chair steve's sitting in creaks as the side of his head rests against the metal. the sudden motion makes the earth tilt on it's axis but sometimes that's what looking at steve just does to him. "the mountains here are old."
steve snorts out a laugh and drops a hand onto the top of eddie's head. his hand pushes through the curls for the briefest of seconds and eddie waits, wanting steve to keep his hand there, but then he's moving eddie's head to lean against his knee instead. it feels more like a win than he expects it to. "yeah, all mountains are old, man. how high are you?"
"no, steve, these-" eddie opens his arms wide to the appalachias in front of him and ignores the sharp pang of homesickness in his chest at the view. "-are older than fucking bones. they're older than saturn's rings. they-"
steve's hand returns to his curls and it stalls him. the homesick feeling that made a place in his chest warms up to nostalgia and hope and his head is filled of images of he and steve doing this again for years to come. images of them as older men, and maybe they're together and maybe they aren't, but they come back to the old plot of land he grew up on and smoke better weed and have a few beers and feel young and maybe in love again.
"it's kinda magical to think about. that these mountains that aren't nearly as impressive as the fucking rockies or somethin' have the coolest history. like, there are caves up there with zero fuckin' fossils because they were formed before invertebrates. and no one gives 'em the time of day just cause they aren't like peak skiing conditions or whatever. it's bullshit."
they fall into silence and before eddie can let himself over think about oversharing, steve's fingers linger on the side of his temple, tap a little beat before stilling. "you're accent comes out when you're excited."
eddie's face flushes and he hopes steve can't feel the heat under his fingertips. he can feel himself freeze, ready to laugh off this whole thing as being too high off his shitty weed or too tipsy from the beers or the general intoxication that comes from seeing steve fucking harrington sitting in his mom's shitty old folding chair with his mountains as the backdrop. but then steve's fingers start petting over his head again and all the noise between his ears fades away.
"i like your accent," steve whisper. eddie can barely hear it over the crickets. "it's cute."
eddie lifts his head up, risks a glance at steve and sees a matching blush to his own. it's right that the mountains are there to witness it, he thinks, as steve's hand cups his cheek and pulls him up so his knees dig into the dewy grass. they have as much of a home in his chest as steve does, it's about time they get properly acquainted.
