The four day (book)work week was the best decision ever. Four days of lessons, one day for out of the house learning.
#for us that means co-op and church children’s choir and nature walks and homeschool PE and various other activities and playdates#field trips are so refreshing#my life#my homeschooling tag#we do have to finish some catch-up work tomorrow but that’s actually from last week which was chaos#and there’s other Saturday things to make up for it

A prize of flesh & pride
And not much else.
Yapping below!
A doodle in reference to a conversation I had with a girl, who had been homeschool. We had got on the topic of our ancestry, and when I brought up mine, she kinda laughed and said “ah yeah, the Indians! Do you go to powwows every Sunday instead of church?”
I had a really in depth conversation with her about my history, about the so called “manifest destiny” and the trail of tears and the reservations. I told her about how many white men would hunt buffalo just to kill them, leaving their carcasses to rot, and how that was another factor in the destruction of the native people.
And she had never heard about any of that till now. She grew up thinking it was some rainbows and smiles, official contracts and alliances. She asked me if I had a Tribal card, and I told her no, my Grammy had ran off the rez a long time ago, and I wasn’t enough of a percentage to gain any scholarships blah blah blah
But like, it’s shocking. Especially now, with Palestine and Ukraine and just everything, that some people don’t know, or are told as kids that the blood on the grass is just strawberry syrup, and that the cries are just rusty cars running. They live their whole life thinking that it’s always been theirs, that it had been given as a gift and not taken— stolen.
Idk, it was just a shocking conversation. Go educate your friends on the trail of tears.
#sketchbook#sketch#silly doodles#buffalo bisons#art#nothing as healing as taping doodles in your sketchbook bc you are free from the ‘perfect sketchbook’ mindset#she wasn’t mean about it#she was actually very invested in learning about it bc she was homeschooled/co-op taught in a strictly faith based environment#free palestine#free ukraine

Oh? What did he teach?
-🔮🕸
Probably a lot of subjects honestly. The HC school system has much less of the philosophy of "you are specifically educated and certified to teach", so it's more like... volunteering as an educator? It's pretty common for people to teach a class at a local school or college every few years or so, and it's kind of a cultural expectation for people to do it at some point. It's actually more unusual for teaching to be a paid/career position, partly because it usually involves having a lot more classes if it is.
At this point, I'm thinking that Draxum was probably a professional teacher, and had a decently full schedule of classes (the exact amount changing between semesters/years but usually like 3-5 at a time). He definitely taught a range of classes, usually higher levels ones about mystic theory and use, biology, combat classes, maybe some alchemy.
He probably sticks with the equivalent of college/graduate classes, maybe the odd high school-ish class on occasion. He probably wouldn't really teach kids younger than that (although the idea of Draxum trying to wrangle a class full of middle schoolers is rather entertaining.)
#asks#bambi's rambling#rottmnt#rottmnt au#draxum raises the turtles au#mcmt au#if this school system seems wack its because its drawing partly from my experience in homeschool co-ops lol

I’m taking like double the classes at co op this year (I had four classes at co op last year but two were like less serious but this year they’re all serious so yippee…)
#annie gushes lovingly#if you don’t know my school situation is a co op which is like half homeschool#it’s like a private school with college scheduling if that makes sense#it’s twice a week and you don’t usually have a class every period

i don't have a real high school diploma because i was homeschooled but i looked up the law in my state and apparently my mom could have just made me one and it would have been legally valid. lol.
#no one has ever asked me for my high school diploma so.....#and i do have one from the unaccredited homeschooling co-op where i did most of my classes#but that is not legally valid bc there were no graduation requirements. you just kinda decided when you were done lol

Huh do you guys remember the book tuck everlasting? How the main girl Winnie was a fat ten year old with an immortal love interest who was "17" but actually like 100 n something and the whole thing with him was he wanted her to drink the everlasting water when she turned 17 so shed be 17 forever and they could get married like that was kinda weird he would.like take her just the two of em and talk up marriage with her and she was like TEN ? They changed it in the movie and made her a skinny fifteen year old but still wow I'm surprised why so many christan parents let that romance book be allowed but like....pride n prejudice was a debate? I don't understand the logic of homeschool mother's AT ALL WHY WAS THAT BOOK ALLOWED BUT WHY WAS I SCREAMED AT FOR CHECKING OUT OLD YELLER AT THE LIBRARY BY A HOMESCHOOL MOTHER IN OUR CO-OP???
#like uh i remember reading that book when i was 11#and uh it's a lil weird just saying#i remember being really angry they made her skinny in the movie but uh maybe I'm misremembering but i picked it up to read to my siblings#and once again had to 'lose it' because uhhhhhhhhhh what the fuck#im not sure if the author made it intentionally creepy for jessie to be pushing and preparing her for marriage and being alone with her but#uhhhhhh I didn't like him when i was a kid and i sure as fuck am like wow#I'm not sure if the author was trying to make it negative and about grooming because the homeschool moms always acted like it was romantic#they always went awwwww i wish she hadn't wasted that wayer on a frog but like#idk#once again why was that romance ok but pride n prejudice romance not ok for some homeschool moms?????????????#like we did p&p the play in lur drama troup and uhhhh a lot of familys dropped out#i loved it though i played jane it was so good and fun#also there was.like 6 moms in the homeschool co-op that just made my life H E L L#like they literally humiliated and bullied me constantly and over minor things like reading OLD YELLER?????????#like don't get me STARTED on the harry potter lotr and anything that had magic drama#giving Narnia which is like the most Christian homeschooler books got me in trouble with like four of em BECAUSE MAGOC? EVEN THOUGH ASLAN#just I do not understand the logic#like i just DON'T GET IT#like grooming is romantic but#like magic is evil? and don't you dare read that book where the dog dies you evil little bitch

i wanted to draw tonight but i did too much with my arms today and my tendinitis is too bad
#i did a lot of lifting at work at greenhouse#(we got a ton of 'fresh cut' pine boughs and big boquets of cut pine branches and other 'winter-y' things in today and then helped a few#people load a bunch of heater fuel pellets into their cars)#then when I got home my mom wanted my help cleaning up all the leaves from our yard so i spent like an hour leaf blowing#and then we needed to cut out templates for the trace-cut-glue turkey craft for the homeschool co-op 2morrow#i just want to sit and do nothing with my hands for the rest of the night#sadly i have adhd and need to constantly be doing smth with my hands#hence me typing a vent post even tho it hurts and i keep messing up instead of just doing nothing#and my mom has been listening to a political comentary podcast all night and all they're talking about is#depressing crap i can do nothing about except pray#and i already know that shit;s fuck so and that we need to pray non stop so i don't need to spend hours listening to#people complaining about the exact ways its fuccked#while im stuck doing stuff for a craft that's making my arms hurt

I’ve made Decisions and Commitments for our homeschool this coming academic year and I know they’re the right ones, but also, here comes the usual post-decision panic.
#my life#my homeschooling tag#we joined a large formal co op#we’re taking a gap year from our main curriculum#we’ve gotten wildly off track from certain goals and we need time to fix that#and I need a gap year to work on certain fundamental skills with everyone#then we’ll be ready to go back
