So that’s the 2021 salmon season wrapped up. @cuillinrae and I kindly invited to Fairnilee on Monday and Holylee on Friday. I had 3 salmon on Monday, which was amazing as there were only 5 fish caught on the whole Tweed system on Monday. Cuillin lost a fish in the afternoon. Cold winds yesterday made it interesting 😀 It’s been a tricky season with low river levels for most of the spring and summer. 23 February 1917 diary of Dr J S Muir of Selkirk

More wind – though not strong – SW – than for many weeks past. Still fresh & snow disappearing faster: but the motor stuck going up the Loan till we put on a chain. Lots of snow still on the road all the way to Midlem but the track is mostly down to the road surface. Motored to Curror Street, Hospital, Dunsdale, Forest Road, Ettrick Road, Castle Street and Lilliesleaf. Got hair cut. Wrote Campbell about Mrs Watson, Broadmeadows, & at the same time gave him my opinion about the delay in settling Eily’s affairs*. Got nothing done at accts.

* Helen Turnbull Rodger of Melrose, known as Eily, daughter of Peter Rodger former town clerk of Selkirk, had died at Holylee House, Walkerburn, 19 September 1914; there are various references in Dr Muir’s diaries to the settling of her affairs
