Rooms That Don't Exist Should Be Par For The NINA Course By Now, I Guess

So we all know the weird observation-room-ish space that lives behind the Rainbow Room mirror, right?

This one:

Well. Check this out, from the mystery box that also contained the full version of the Creel murders article.

This room is labeled as being type 31, or a "Control Room":

That puts it in the same class as this room, which is also type 31/a Control Room:

When we compare these schematics to the official set blueprints, we can see that the one from 1979 is not just an observation room:

The test room right in front of the Rainbow Room has a separately labeled Observation Room and Windowless Room, both of which get lumped into a type 21 "Test Room".

So this offshoot room of the Rainbow Room is specifically a Control Room, which is differentiable from an observation room.

So if it's a control room...where are all the control panels?

And more importantly...where's the door that's supposedly dead ahead of us in that previous picture?

As always...few answers, many questions.

TL;DR: HNL was studying how to give human subjects electromagnetic, most specifically visible light based, powers in order to bend space-time for their needs.

I’m going to try and condense this as much as I can because considering electromagnetism as a major force in ST (pun intended) opens up so many potential areas of analysis that can only be a brief cover of without turning into multiple essays.

Let’s go over the electromagnetic spectrum:

I hope you might already be recognizing some symbols we see often in Stranger Things, especially if you’ve been following the BTS and some location and set leaks from Season 5.

The electromagnetic spectrum encompasses the different frequencies of electromagnetic radiation - waves of energy that travel at the speed of light (and produce visible light to us at certain frequencies). You’ve probably heard of most of these, including cancer-causing gamma rays and x-rays, the visible light spectrum (the rainbow), microwaves, and radio waves.

In S5, we have the radio station as a main location for the characters. They’re also driving around in the radio station’s van, which has an image of a hawk emitting a rainbow (visible light radiation). Steve’s car also has a massive antenna on top of it. My first thoughts were that the team was trying to keep in contact with Max in hopes of her being able to hear them in her coma, considering she has a radio near her bedside. While that still may be a reason, I think the characters may have come to realize how important electromagnetic fields could be in their fight against Vecna (this where leader of the AV Club also focused on electromagnetic objects Scott Clarke may make his triumphant return).

Now to pivot onto why electromagnetism is so important to the lore of ST:

What the scientists in Hawkins Lab are likely studying is a way for human brains to produce or manipulate certain types of electromagnetic waves through telepathy. Most obviously this is seen by them having the kids try to manipulate and turn on a circle of light bulbs. Our brains actually already produce electromagnetic waves, but at a very slow frequency. The scientists are constantly measuring brain waves while conducting these experiments. We even get full shots of El’s brain waves during NINA, for example. We also see similar shots in S2 while Will is in the HNL.

You can also observe that the Hawkins National Laboratory has absolutely massive satellite dishes on it’s rooftop; ones that do not exist on the real life building but are added in post because they pose some sort of significance. Nudge, it’s because they are transmitting and receiving massive amounts of electromagnetic waves.

Why are they studying electromagnetic waves then?

They are studying electromagnetic waves because they are a method in which time travel can theoretically be achieved - the focus of the Montauk Project in which Stranger Things is based on. The military likely is investigating time travel as another war tactic against Russia.

Let us take a look at the first chapter of the Montauk Project: Experiments in Time book (they are seriously plagiarizing the living hell out of this thing):

Also, did you catch the whole 'attaching a massive antenna on the hood of my car to pick up a secret signal' thing? That's suspiciously similar to the state of Steve's car! Anyway...

The story of Stranger Things starts chronologically, as does Montauk, with the disappearance of the USS Eldridge and Project Rainbow (named after the bending of the visible light spectrum). Brenner’s father was revealed to have captained the boat in TFS, which disappeared for 12 hours into Dimension X and when it came back, the crew was killed or driven mad (except for Brenner Sr). This inspires Brenner to continue onto the Nevada project, and eventually, Hawkins National Lab’s studies. The USS Eldridge / Philadelphia Project conspiracy from real life went as follows:

They were studying electromagnetism, specifically the bending of light, to make objects invisible. This was only the first step in the experiments. Once Henry got involved and came back from his trip to Dimension X with powers, Brenner must have realized he could potentially use human subjects to manipulate electromagnetic fields themselves. Human subjects didn’t require machinery or set up and could bend space-time wherever they pleased, as long as they were able to learn the ability.

The more conspiratiorial side of Theoretical Physics proposes using circulating light beams to warp time-space, creating a wormhole in which one can literally walk through time. This is pop-science, likely not true but interesting for fiction purposes. This method of time travel being used is heavily implied due to the fact that the USS Eldridge was already able to disappear into another dimension by the bending of light.

This is how it worked in the Montauk Project book (absolutely ridiculous how much they took from this honestly):

My guess is that in the Stranger Things universe, they have not yet managed to time travel, only to create portals into this alien Dimension X. Previously, said portals were only made twice by highly advanced technological equipment. El demonstrated that she was able to open a portal all by herself - another step to achieving time travel with singular human subjects. Season five is when we will see the beginning of the time travel plot line, though it like in Montauk is likely already in a loop.

That’s where we get the name for the Rainbow Room, named after this Project Rainbow. The rainbow represents the full spectrum of visible light, and the goals of the project to bend said light into portals and eventually time travel wormholes.

Implications?:

-Well, first of all it seems very obvious by this point that we are going for a time travel plot line, and this is how it will be achieved.

-Will is heavily connected to light in general, the sun, and of course… the rainbow. He is also implied be the one involved in the time travel plot line. This will be very relevant going forward and deserves it’s own post. Potential funniness of defeating Vecna with the power of the rainbow afoot.

-Coma patients are known to have odd, barely detectable brain waves. The kids will be able to communicate with Max in her coma using the electromagnetic spectrum somehow, probably through the radio waves.

-On the farthest end of the spectrum, we have ionizing gamma ray radiation, which is known to cause cancer in humans. Expect Hopper’s daughter Sara to connect to this plot line (and perhaps Sam Owens’ dead son). There is a whole theory on this site already called radiationgate. I have not managed to look into it yet but I think they are probably onto something there. The original al pitch mentions the UD leakage into the real world causing cancer as well.

The Most Evil Man In Hawkins: Don Melvald and Brenner Sr (Ft Richard Brenner and Brenner Sr's Punk Era/Axel Delivering Brenner Subtext and Ketamine)

So, Mark Hammersley posted this picture of himself as Brenner Sr:

And then, right after that Brenner Sr picture, he posted this picture of himself as Don Melvald:

And look at the caption- "secretly the most evil man in Hawkins"- that's an interesting caption for a guy that's supposedly a random store owner- it's almost the sort of caption that woudl fit better with Brenner Sr. It's almost like Brenner Sr and Don Melvald are being connected here, especially with how often Brenner gets referred to as "man"/"the man" in-show versus Don getting called "the most evil man" in this caption.

Hell, Kali even refers to Brenner as "a man you knew was evil":

And of course, I take everything that's said/posted by actors with a HUGE grain of salt, and on its own, Mark’s caption isn't particularly strong evidence of some sort of subtext/connection related to Brenner Sr and Don Melvald- but there's three key things that piqued my interest here and led me to believe that there IS some sort of Melvald-Brenner connection:

1.) Mark Hammersley himself has posted before about how he has to be super careful about what he posts on social media re: TFS & how people from Netflix/people in charge check/approve TFS social media posts (and other cast members have talked about how they have ‘ironclad NDAs’)- which makes it suspicious that the Brenner Sr post was deleted and is no longer on Mark's page:

2.) Even when Brenner Sr and Don Melvald aren't played by Mark Hammersley, they ARE always played by the same actor (at least every time I saw the play & every BTS pic etc I've seen supports this & even if it's hard to tell from my screenshots, that is 1000000% the same actor playing both of them in TFS). So, even setting Mark himself entirely aside, there IS an intentional production choice/casting choice that connects Brenner Sr and Don Melvald:

3.) The in-show, NON TFS Don Melvald has an EERY resemblance to Brenner. Look at the hair- not only does he have the same "pushed back grey with white streaks" style as Brenner, but his hair is also parted on the RICHARD side/towards screen left, which ties into something I'm going to talk about in a second. And there''s also Don's white grid shirt versus the white HNL grid tiles and Owens' white grid shirt- and Don also wears a grid shirt and cardigan combo like Owens does, with the blue coat over top and everything (and Don's cardigan seems to be dark green, much like in-show Young Henward's dark green cardigan):

And what's extra suspicious about all of this is Melvald's being advertised as a drug store versus Richard Brenner being the head of the Narcotics Enforcement division, and all of the drug dealer Reefer Rick vs Richard Brenner stuff (it’s also very funny to me that the guy that’s talking about “when did Rick get out of jail?” has the same sort of white and grey beard as TFS Don Melvald and Brenner Sr):

And on that note, going back to what I said in the beginning about Kali's line re: "a man you knew was evil," IMO, this is another piece that connects all of this specifically to Richard because Richard is likley the man that Kali is referring to/the man that Ray worked with, as Richard seems to be the guy that we see in the flashbacks with Ray during Terry's electrocution:

Anyway, it's also an interesting choice for Don Melvald to have brown eyes as opposied to both Brenner Sr and Brenner Jr's brown eyes versus Flayed Will's brown eyes... what's going on??? And also regarding Brenner Sr and Don Melvald being played by the same actor in TFS/being identical, this "sex, drugs, and Elvis" line about Melvald's from TFS stuck out to me:

It stuck out to me because: A.) It connects Melvalds to drugs again, which therefore connects Melvald's to Richard Brenner again. And B.) It references Elvis, which, as we know, and as I'm sure Stav's talked about, that connects to the "Elvis Cloned By Aliens" newspaper article.

So, connecting Melvald's to Elvis therefore connects Melvald's to cloning- which is supsicious considering that TFS Don Melvald is identical to Brenner Sr/played by the same actor. Quick, Don, you wouldn't happen to be some sort of copy/clone of Brenner Sr, would you? Even in the sense of TFS involving some of Brenner Jr's memories in a weird simulation way/the way that the bloody hands memory invades NINA for El, and so, Brenner Jr's memories of Brenner Sr might be invading TFS in a similar way???

And also, the Elvis Cloned By Aliens paper has that article titled “Sailor Cheats Death In Ordeal At Sea," which further connects the cloning stuff to Brenner Sr because Brenner Sr cheated death at sea and returned (albeit briefly) from Project Rainbow/the USS Eldridge, whereas the rest of his crew did not. Brenner Sr, do you have clones running around?? Also, it's interesting that TFS Don Melvald a.) looks so different from in-show Don Melvald, with TFS Don having a beard vs in-show Don being clean-shaven, which reminds me of Brenner Sr's beard in TFS vs in-show Brenner being clean-shaven and b.) Don Melvald is already greying/older looking when Joyce is in highschool in TFS- and yet, many years later, the in-show Don Melvald looks younger than the TFS Don/it doesnt seem to make sense for in-show Don to be TFS Don age-wise- which makes me think about how TFS Brenner Jr doesn't age, and also the whole Brenner Sr vs Brenner Jr thing- is the TFS version of Don actually Don Melvald Sr vs the in-show don being Don Melvald Jr? Anyway!

And also, when we look at more of Don's in-show scenes, he has a line about bringing Jeffrey in to cover for Joyce. Which is interesting considering all of the weirdness with cover actors in TFS and the fact that it almost seems like Brenner Sr's actor is "covering" for Don Melvald's actor or vice versa, even though that doesn't seem to actually be the case/Don's been intentionally casted since the start to be played by whicever actor is playing Brenner Sr. It's also extra interesting that Don is having a guy named Jeffrey/Jeff cover for Joyce here, versus Jeff from the Hellfire Club being present at the table in S4 when Dustin and Mike are told to go and find somebody to cover for Lucas. And Jeff's also the guy that pointed out that Eddie's been saying that he's going to run out of Hawkins High for two years, which then connects to what I've talked about before re: Eddie being stuck in highschool for an extra two years versus Edward Creel moving to Hawkins two years before Henry did- and Jeff also wears a Black Sabbath shirt later on vs what I talked about in this post and this post re: Eddie Munson vs Edward Creel and Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne And Jeff is ALSO the one that yells at Jason to "let him go" when Jason grabs Gareth, which then connects to El talking about how Brenner couldn't let Henry go:

Anyway, we also have this shot of the Halloween masks at Melvald's General Store- and that mummy mask looks a LOT like Brenner Sr's Invisible Man-esque bandaged face after he returned from Project Rainbow- and that mask from Melvald’s is also the same mask that Axel wears:

And speaking of Axel, Axel has something in common with TFS Virginia- they’re both terrified of spiders, TFS Henry shows Virginia a vision of spiders crawling towards her/onto her, just like Kali does with Axel, and Virginia freak out just like Axel does:

(And TFS Virginia was locked in a closet full of spiders as a child, which, considering the connection to Brenner Sr via Axel here, makes me wonder a.) if Brenner Sr ever locked any of his kids/Brenner Jr in a closet/trunk, esp considering the Will-Brenner parallels & Jonathan checking Lonnie’s trunk for Will, as well as all of the locker imagery in TFS & the Davy Jones’ Locker association re: Brenner Sr being a sailor and b.) if TFS Virginia might be one of Brenner Sr’s kids, but anyway)

And hilariously, that whole Virginia-Henry scene about the spiders not only happens RIGHT after the scene of Henry at Melvald's/he's JUST come home from Melvald's to find Virginia waiting up for him, but also, the whole reason the conflict started/the whole reason that line about Virginia and the spiders was even said is because Virginia was upset about Henry going to Melvald's with Patty. Alll roads really do lead to Melvald's at this point.

And regarding that Brenner Sr-Virginia connection, isn't it then funny that the mask in question that Axel wears & that resembles Brenner Sr’a bandages is a mummy mask vs Brenner Sr being connected to Henry's mom via Axel delivering Brenner Sr subtext & having the same sort of spider fear as TFS Virginia?

PLUS, we have Kali putting Axel's Brenner Sr-esque mask onto El- El, who's a girl, which further connects to the weird “Brenner Sr vs Virginia/mother/woman” stuff going on here (and is also interesting considering El being mistaken for a boy in S1):

And also, Kali says that Axel is a “terrible dancer,” after she makes the spiders appear and Axel “dances” around about it, versus TFS Henry talking about how he “doesn’t dance/isnt a good dancer” and then the scene of TFS Henry dancing at Melvald’s right before the spider scene with Virginia:

And ALSO, we get a shot of Axel holding Chinese food, versus S1 Karen saying “am I speaking Chinese in this house?” versus Don Melvald being RIGHT behind Karen at Will’s funeral & the context of the “am I speaking Chinese” scene being about Will’s disappearance/“death”, therefore connecting the “speaking Chinese” scene to that funeral scene & therefore connecting the “speaking Chinese” scene to Don Melvald, which then connects back to Axel (who wears the mask that’s sold at Melvald’s) holding Chinese food, and THEN there’s ALSO Nancy talking about “house arrest” right after Karen says that “speaking Chinese” line versus Reefer Rick delivering subtext about Richard Brenner & the guys on the boat talking about Reefer Rick getting arrested and the “China doll” lyric playing RIGHT after that line, PLUS the newspaper article about Richard Brenner talking about how the documents involving him were “heavily coded,” versus TFS Henry’s DIY code, and Robin cracking the S3 code versus a key part of the S3 code being Chinese food (which Axel was holding), and the S3 code line being “a trip to China sounds nice,” versus the idea of tripping on drugs and what I’m going to talk about later re: Axel, Richard, Reefer Rick and Ketamine and Richard Brenner being the head of narcotics:

And Axel also has this shot where he cocks a pistol, which makes me think of the scene in TFS where Brenner Sr/Don Melvald’s actor does the same sort of thing/raises a pistol towards the audience kind of randomly/there’s no clear reason as to why he did it:

And we also have the shots of Axel walking with his black coat flowing out dramatically behind him, JUST like S1 Brenner walking with his black coat flowing out dramatically behind him (and also, there’s something about the anarchy symbol on Axel’s shirt vs TFS Henry’s weird x and circle scar on his hand):

And just briefly, this part is a tiny bit more of a stretch admittedly, but it IS a little funny to me that Axel tries to steal cigarettes from the convenience store/is very prominently framed by cigarette ads- cigarettes, also known as fags- versus TFS Henry’s vanishing in the cave in Nevada/Henry’s in-show HNL kidnapping re: the Creel Murders and Will’s vanishing and both Henry and Will being gay/being “fags”.

Like, isn’t it just a little suspicious that Axel, the character with constant Brenner Sr & Richard Brenner references, is stealing fags? Versus Brenner’s long-running habit of stealing another type of fag?

Especially considering the connection that Kali’s gang has to London versus fag being British slang for cigarette??

And especially considering that the only time the word “fag” is used in ST is regarding Will (and hilariously, Joyce even raises her cigarette right into frame when she says it)- versus the connection between Richard Brenner and Will, with how the article about Richard is right under the article about Will’s vanishing:

And on a more obvious note re: Brenner St, Richard Brenner and Axel, there’s also the shot of Dottie holding up two bottles of prescription drugs/narcotics in front of Axel’s face- versus Richard Brenner being the head of the Narcotic Enforcement Division, and Axel’s visual connection to Brenner Sr via his mask and said mask being from Melvald’s, which was advertised as a drug store- point is, the connection between Brenner Sr, Don Melvald, Richard Brenner, and Axel continues:

And we also get this shot of Axel going into the kids’ room at Ray Carroll’s house- a kids’ room with rainbows on the wall (versus Brenner and the HNL rainbow room), and a closet very prominently featured in the shot (versus what I talked about earlier re: Virginia and Axel’s fear of spiders and Virginia having been locked in a closet full of spiders as a child), as well as the operator telling the girls to “stay calm” in this scene vs Henward telling El to “stay calm” during NINA in the rainbow room (which it’s also interesting to me that the operator that Henward gets paralleled to is a girl versus a.) the whole “henry creel isn’t a chick” thing in TFS and b.) what ive talked about with how during this very chess scene, Henward is visually paralleled to 007, who is a girl):

^And as a tangential note, it’s interesting to me that NINA Henward is paralleled to a phone operator here vs the NINA phonebooth scene vs the operator in The Matrix, and how operators are typically humans born outside of The Matrix versus Henward being the only lab kid that was born outside of the lab:

And in the bedroom, Axel finds two girls who seem like they might be twins- and not only do they seem like they might be twins, but they also a.) have dark brown hair that’s very similar to 15 year old Brenner’s hair colour & texture as well as 7 year old Henry’s hair colour and texture (and speaking of 15 year old Brenner’s hair, El’s slicked back dark punk hair also reminds me a lot of 15 yr old Brenner’s hair) and b.) they’re paralleled to Alice Creel with the night gowns & their father literally sharing a last name with the author of Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll:

Not to mention that one of the girls is wearing a nightgown with a print that’s eerily similar to the HNL lab gown print- and also reminds me of Suzie’s nightgown, which is interesting considering how similar the rainbows on the Carroll girls’ wall is to the rainbow on Suzie’s Muppet Movie/Rainbow Connection poster and how Suzie’s dark hair is so similar to the Carroll girls & the NINA rainbow room vs the Carroll girls’ rainbow wallpaper & Suzie’s connections to NINA & Suzie even having a phone in her room RIGHT under that rainbow connection poster that’s the same colour as the Carroll girls’ phone- and the nightgown ALSO reminds me of TFS Virginia’s nightgown (vs what I just said about the Carroll girls’ closet connection to Virginia), as well as the random bloody nightgown that appears on the laundry line during Max’s Vecna vision:

And the pose of the Carroll girls reminds me of the pose that in-show Young Henward has in this picture- especially since Young Henward has his murder night outfit on in that picture and we still don’t know who called the police on the night of the Creel murders versus the Carroll girls talking on the phone to the 911 operator about the police arriving (also, the use of the word “honey” from the operator here makes me wonder if we’ll get a parallel dialogue line of Henry calling the police the night of the Creel murders where that says “the police are on their way, Henry. Okay?”):

And also, this is something I’ve had a draft about for like a year now & haven’t finished so I’ll put a bit of it in this post, but it’s interesting to me that Axel calls Kali “K,” versus “K,” being used as a short form way of referring to “Ketamine,” versus Eddie Munson talking to Chrissy about Ketamine & Chrissy calling it “Special K” and all of the Richard Brenner vs Reefer Rick drug stuff/Eddie Munson getting his drugs (the Ketamine) from Reefer Rick, versus Axel, who’s constantly connected to Richard Brenner and Brenner Sr, referring to Kali as “K”:

Which also makes me think of the connection between Will and Richard Brenner and the S1 line about how Will’s vanishing left a “hole” in the community” versus the Ketamine experience called a “K Hole,” that causes intense dissociation and “out of body experiences” (which has me staring at my draft about the CIA in 1983s and the Gateway Technique/astral projection) and can also cause distortion of time and space, hallucinations, memory loss, psychosis, and more. Which makes me think about a.) Henward’s apparent memory loss after the Creel murders/El’s memory loss after the massacre & that scene being a parallel to Henward fainting after the Creel murders, as well as Will weirdly not mentioning (or possibly not remembering) his time in the upside down, and b.) all of the hallucination and psychosis stuff associated with Henward, especially with TFS Henry.

There’s a lot more I have to say about Ketamine/K Hole symptoms, dissociation, MKULTRA (because one of the key goals of MKULTRA experiments was inducing dissociation), Henry vs Edward, etc etc, especially since k hole experiences are often associated with visions of aliens/alien experiences vs TFS Henry’s alien stuff re: Rachel, Nevada and all of the Brenner alien stuff, but I’ll put that all in the actual ketamine post/I’ll go and finish that post.

And they also show us a scene of Troy specifically repeating the line about a “hole” versus bladder problems being a symptom of repeated k hole experiences and El making Troy wet himself:

Anyway! Lots to think about, I’d love to know what the hell is going on with Don Melvald vs Brenner Sr and all of the connections to China and codes etc etc!!!

genuinely baffled when people staunchly believe that mr clarke is unimportant/was forgotten/won’t be in st5. if he was unimportant, they would have only had him in a few scenes… realistically they’d only need him to be slightly present in the classroom and for av stuff as a way to show the party’s involvement in that and that they’re good students

so then… why have him in all the other scenes he’s in? why have an emphasis on scott talking to jim in the search party and be the one to find the gown fabric in the tunnel? why have him be the one to catch the party trying to sneak into the av room and meet el? why have connie go to his house to ask about the kids when she could have, say, gone to some of the other parents? why have the party ask him specifically about the (theoretical) possibility of the ud at will’s wake? why have him be interested in dnd at all? why have dustin call him about the sensory deprivation tank? why couldn’t we have instead had the kids scouring through their dnd manuals, rifling through the library, anything else to show them learning stuff about this. (especially considering how important the library is… how poignant would it be for them to find not only stuff about hnl and terry at the library in s1 but also show the kids learning stuff about parallel universes and alternate planes? what a neat little tie that would’ve been!! not to mention everything else in later seasons that take place there, and even the st5 bts stuff regarding the computer club in the library!!)

and that’s just season 1! they set him up as this incredible fountain of knowledge for our gang, and he continued to be there for them through season 2 (being present for several scenes with d’art, giving the phineas gage information, all of his brain/hive mind and fear talk) and season 3 (helping joyce with her magnets, the constant “russian scott clarke” complaints from jim irt alexei thus tying him directly to the key and the gates and the ud) and he just so happens to not be in season 4 when a lot of the “source” of our issues are uncovered… and he’s not present in tfs despite being around the same age as henry and therefore might have some knowledge about the creels… especially with the vague mentions of the “boy in nevada” who henry hurt who still doesn’t have a name…

they even made another sensory deprivation tank in s4 because of what scott taught them, but he doesn’t even get a name drop? I don’t buy it. they kept him out on purpose because he’s so entrenched in the plot and giving exposition for it that, had he been there at all for s4, he would have started to solve parts of the plot way too quickly

WAIT WHAT HAPPENED ON MAY 5TH?! I FORGOT!!!!

it was may 5th of 2021!! there was a super long content drough. if i remember correctly, the last real peice of content was feb 14 2020 (russia teaser). idk tho bc i joined the fandom in between the two. anyway, we got the HNL teaser and noah talking about byler and some bts and the promise of 002 the next day. which granted isn’t that much but we had absolutely nothing and then suddenly a teaser and noah saying “there’s a lot of [byler] in season 4”

Black widow & El (parallels) + other comic/lab connections (mini theories)

Maybe its farfetched but mcu films were said to be inspo for s4, and the Duffers are avid comic book fans in general. El and black widow have very similar storylines. 

El & black widow

Both have  adopted fathers  (played by david harbor ) who are thrown into russian jails . Natasha, as a baby , was kindapped by her own government to be trained into a supersoldier.  It's an all-girls government program, and Natasha (and other girls) have special dna that causes them to be recruited into the program.Both EL/Natasha call themselves "monsters" because of the tra*ma caused by the gov programs . Natasha was sent to the "red room" (rainbow room) to become a super soldier. Her mom tries rescuing her after her k*dnapping- but is k*llled by the gov (terry-esque ). She has an adopted sister who was part of red room (kali and el) . They take down the red room together. And both sisters say to one another as an inside joke "we're both upsidedown".

The creels

-Then we have other possible inspos . For instance s4's victor creel may be based on the xmen character victor creed- who was also a mutant explo*ted and turned into weapon by his government. Which is similar to El. Both the blackwidow program and Victor's program implemented brain washing techniques (similar to mkultra which the rainbow room in st is based on). Robin In s3 also mentions the comic character victor stone - who was a superhero and a byproduct of science. We also had el watch Frankenstein in s2 cause she felt like a "monster". And the rebel robin podcast even mentions Victor Frankenstein- who was the "father" aka the creator of a "monster" due to his ab*se of science. It's a bit of a farfetched Crack theory: but since victor creed wasn't American...maybe victor creel isn't either. For instance , the teaser shows the creels have a Russian doll and the st game says victor likes a traditional eastern European dish - borsht. So maybe they borrow from the black widow movie/comics: aka the plot point about russian agents/experiments (both adults and kids) trying to pretend to be normal American family for a mission . But with the Creels it doesn't go as planned??? The cold War is something prevalent in st, and as crazy as it sounds ...historically both nations wanted to make psychic super soldiers (as far back as the 50s).

So who knows maybe the Creels aren't as they seem and are (Soviet) psychic agents masquerading as a normal American family?

The Creels parallel the byers ,and el. Maybe the El-parallels are there because they're experiments ,like el? For instance creel & nina- means "fish trap" . And bts pics shows a sensory deprivation tank named "nina' that el may go into. Aka nina- is the trap, el is the metaphorical fish trapped in the water tank. The name Nina is even a historical reference to an alleged russian psychic - that caused the American gov to try and create psyhcic soldiers. We also had the opera song in the hnl pre teaser : where a character named nina sang. nina (el) has gaps in memory and wrongly thinks someone she knows is dead (brenner). So both el and victor could be products of ab*sive science, and thus have parallels . El feels like a monster . But maybe victor became one? Scott clarke: "science is neat... but i'm afraid it's not very forgiving."

Peter & Chrissy

st may also be inspired by the show heroes as well *which was inspired by comics and even had spin off comic created. I've talked about it before . But long story short...

' heroes " has the signature psychic nosebleed . And even had a plot about superpowered Elle and a superpowered -cheerleader going to pinehearst (the facility claims they're an energy facility-like Hawkins lab- but are actually responsible for creating psychics in a secret lab there). Elle goes there after she lost control of her powers .ALSO penthurst vs pinehearst .

Note in the black widow comics - the location of the red room (rainbow room) constantly changes for safety protocol. So it's possible Brenner has relocated to such a place?

The super-powered cheerleader is also related to Peter, who is related to the cheerleader 's bio dad. Her estranged bio father is the head of a government program that hunts down people with powers . She also doesn't have her bio father's surname- and didn't know him growing up. And all 3 family members have powers,including her father who hunts others with powers. Peter (in heroes) is even a nurse, while st's peter is an orderly at the psyhciatric hospital (penthurst). Heck, Max in s4 listens to the album "hounds of love": One song "cloudbusters" is about peter and how his scientist's father was arrested.

And yeah chrissy (cheerleader) & peter do seem to look similar. Which may or may not mean anything.

-And speaking of brenner / victor Frankenstein. The runaways marvel comic had the character victor stein. He was praised as a world class scientist- but was ab*sive to his son behind the scenes. Which ... if brenner did have bio kids (like peter) , and most likely treated them poorly. It really goes with the theme of ab*sive family that occurs with many of the st characters . Even the new cheerleader chrissy is supposed to have an ab*sive mom.

Heck if we look at chrissy , other possible inspirations are interesting. Like elmstreet franchise (which also had it's own marvel comic) is inspo for st. The Duffers stated as such and the gowns we see in the rainbow room actually are seen in the elmstreet franchise. In the comics, Freddy K actually has very similar powers to the mf: mindcontrol, shapeshifting into fears, etc. Freddy k (in the marvel comics) even became a "literal monster" because of how his ab*sive father treated him- which again ab*sive fathers are fairly common in st,unfortunately. And in the comics, once he became a supernatural-creature: he says he targets kids/teens who have ab*sive upbringings- which I mean Will (lonnie), Billy (Neil), El (brenner). Pretty much their repressed pain and resentment- attracted the monster .

One movie on the s4 st list was "elm street: dream warrior" : Kirsten is trapped in mental hospital with other super-powered kids, and she's blonde and has bangs like chrissy + has an ab*sive mother. One of the characters trapped at the facility with her is named William. He calls himself a wizard and is into d&d- esque games. Heck we also had another s4 film (hellraiser 2) : where kirsty has an evil step mom, and she's sent to a psych facility where a evil psychiatrist is trying to use the teens to open portals to other dimensions. She escapes the hospital with the help of a staff member who doesnt agree with the evil dr.

-charlie heaton also starred in the film ' new mutants', which has a similar premise . The film was about mutant teens who couldn't control their powers- trapped in a facility with a mutant scientist(brenner vibes). One queer-teen at the facility doesn't even know she has powers- but has the ability to make people's fears (including her own) into reality. She creates literal monsters - subconsciously -which does correlate to my Will has powers theory. Anyways my point is one of the other mutant teens aesthetically kind of looks Iike chrissy??

This is mostly fun Crack theories and speculation. I just find all the possible parallels fun to look at. Since the duffers made it no secret they're comic and movie nerds :P

I know you think there’s some sort of TPTB narrative in place here, and maybe there was, initially. But WHO declared a pandemic on 3/11 - well before Sam jetted off to Hawaii. He wasn’t taken by surprise once he got there. And, more importantly, he’s had ample time to leave. Flights continue to leave HNL daily. It’s one thing to make a mistake, but Sam doesn’t seem to be remotely interested in correcting this, despite the orders issued in Hawaii and the U.K. That’s what I find so problematic.

That’s the problem all right. He did know, because the reason he was freed up to go was that Paley had been cancelled due to the pandemic. He should never have gone to Hawaii. He should never have stayed in Hawaii, not for a single day. He should never have snapped back at fans who called him on it. He should never have said in a Q& A that he was still in Hawaii, days later, when the state was telling tourists to get out and the UK was calling her citizens home. He went before the travel ban but there was no ban on leaving. He should never have posted a shirtless photo or blocked people or baked a stupid cake. But that’s the thing...Sam values his health and his loved ones. He’s a home body. He’s not a womanizer. So was he latergramming and pretending to be in Hawaii when he’s been at home this whole time? Or was he under Parnell’s direction to stay and play out this narrative in spite of the pandemic? Or did he have symptoms and they made him stay for two weeks but PR thought Womanizer Sam is a better look right now than Sick Sam? I don’t know. Don’t have a clue. But I’m going to let it play out and not crucify the guy when I don’t know what’s gone on bts. I’m choosing puzzled over condemning.

So in light of our new ST5 BTS leak, wherein you can see the camera lights flashing along with the overheads...I thought we should revisit every time we see lights flashing/powers use with cameras in frame from 4.07:

Lo and behold...those little red lights don't flash.

There are a couple shots where they seem like they might be shut off

But that's a different conversation all together irt 002-005 bullying El with the cameras off/the same kind of deal with people being thrown against walls, ykwim?

We don't see any instances where the camera lights flash, though, you feel me?

This means the events of 1979/4.07 didn't originally happen the way we were told they did, and that HNL/1979 has more in store for us this season. (A shocker, I know. Not like anyone has been saying this for a full year or something...)

TFS Henry and Boy Scouts

So, I know some people (including me for awhile) thought this picture-

-was just some sort of promo or BTS image because it wasnt a scene that appeared in the play when I saw it/when some other saw it. However, I’ve since found multiple people who saw the play very early on in the previews saying that this WAS definitely a scene in the play and they DID watch it. Unfortunately, I couldnt find any other info about the context of the scene.

And now, I’m staring at Henry’s costume here- because it almost looks like a vintage boy scout’s uniform with camo shorts:

Which brings me to this BTS pic of one of the versions of the Roane Daily Citizen Creel papers that has an article about Cub Scouts in it (it says “Cub Scouts Need More Den Mothers”):

And also, looking at Henry’s outfit again, it looks like the shirt could be a scout shirt that’s untucked and unbuttoned- and so, if we were seeing Henry from the front, he would likely have an undershirt visible, which is interesting considering that it would be a parallel to the grey tank top/undershirt we see Henry wearing during TFS:

Anyway! Much to think about! Was TFS Henry a boy scout of some sort? Is that how he ended up in the cave in Nevada? Was he doing some sort of scouting thing?

And it also makes me think about the military men that were send into the cave-esque UD tunnels to scout the area who ended up being killed- and this is especially interesting because those men were intentionally lured into a trap by Flayed Will- so, was Henry intentionally lured into a trap in Nevada at the cave?

It also makes me think of how often various members of the party are scouting, especially in early seasons, like with Lucas scouting out HNL in S1 with his binoculars.

And there’s 152637848 other scout connections (Petey McHew at summer camp, Bob and Scott being boy scouts according to one of the comics, the camp knowhere stuff vs patty being ‘the girl from nowhere’ etc etc) but I’ll save those for another time.

The 4 ‘Nina’ references in Stranger Things ( s4)

I found this very fascinating ....

#1.  In the Hnl teaser (the one before the brenner teaser) we hear a song from the play. "Nina, ou La folle par amour” (Nina, or The Woman Crazed with Love) 

Nina deals with amnesia caused by a psychotic break over the (perceived) death of her lover. She also had a controlling father (who tried sabotaging her relationship). And we have the plot line of her loved ones’ death being faked (unbeknownst to her). Also the obvious “only love makes you that crazy”. 

so 

-Hopper’s death being faked

- mental health issues

-repressed memories of tra*ma

-problematic dads

-love that makes you "crazy'

#2 In the ( technically cannon) book “Will byers’ secret files” we see a reference to the soviet psychic Nina Kulagina.

-Nina is also a RUSSIAN NAME - so maybe the “Nina project” is just the codename for the Russian’s version of the prior usa's ‘project’- relating to the demogorgan/upsidedown. And is an easteregg.

- We also see a possible connection to Nina & the “electric-girl”(chrissy)-cause the electric girl’s powers’  are perceived as demonic. Again s4 will have the christian satanic panic. Chrissy means "follower of christ". Chrissy may be like carrie whose mom equates her powers to the devil. And chrissy like Carrie probably lights her ab*ser's car on fire (except accidentally). There's more reasons I think she'll light the car on fire but I'll save it for a diff post.

- But chrissy &Nina can be nicknames for Christina. And NINA can mean "fire" and i do believe chrissy may have some form of pyro/electrokinesis . And accidentally light her ab*sers' car on fire. Or maybe like alexi wanted to do- stages her death by starting a car fire. One s4 film a teen girl stages her d*ath and runs away to escape her ab*sive family.

- Also,unrelated, EL is compared to the orphan, Anne of Green gables . And NINA (is a Russian diminutive form of Anne). So chrissy/El will most likely parallel/be character foils as well.

#3 In bts pics of Hawkins high: we see a poster for monologue auditions- one is for the play “ the seagull”. It's famous monologue is performed by the character  Nina (I believe Chrissy will be playing Nina in this scene). Since nina/chrissy are nicknames for Christina.

 The monologue is of a girl describing her ab*ser, herself as a seagull , her mental health, & being a poor actress... the pain on stage would be Chrissy’s actual pain rather than simply acting

The rebel robin (st novel) had Robin at the skate rink (like s4 el) and a play audition (like someone else in s4 , probably). When she auditioned she related too much to her character, and everyone thought her emotions were superb acting- when her emotions were real. And then she had a panic attack, and fainted on stage .

Backstory of play : Konstantin romantically into Nina shows up to give Nina a gull that he has shot. Nina is confused and horrified .Trigorin sees the gull that Konstantin has shot and muses to Nina on how he could use it as a subject for a short story:

"The plot for the short story: a young girl lives all her life on the shore of a lake. She loves the lake, like a gull, and she’s happy and free, like a gull. But a man arrives by chance, and when he sees her, he destroys her, out of sheer boredom. Like this gull."  

Also in Spanish Niña can mean "little girl" (like Nina the " young girl" in the play).

The seagull motif reminds me a lot of Jonathan’s rabbit story. He liked and thought of himself as the thumper rabbit character and was forced to kill said rabbit. And we see a dead rabbit/hare in s4. Also, brenner tried to make El k*ll a cat. And the seagull motif was in s3- we see the seagulls in Billy's happy memories representing a time before he was corrupted by his dad. AND we see a seagull painting (at Lonnie's) that jonathan walks past in s1.

I feel like at the very least this monologue may be recontectualized to symbolically represent different forms of parental ab*se.

This play immediately reminded me of some of the movies said to inspire s4 . tw: s.a (skip to #4 if you prefer).  in forrest gump- Jenny (who is poor) was se*ually ab*sed as a very young girl by her father. As a child she runs away into a field-away from her alcoholic father yelling at her -there she prays that she can "be a bird so I can fly far far away” .Jenny as an adult struggles with this unresolved trauma- being with ab*sive partners, doing dr*gs, and having su*cidal thoughts . She as an adult when contemplating su*icide, jokes 'you think i can fly like a bird ?’ while looking down at a bridge.

The film "blackswan" was confirmed inspo for s4 of st: NINA Sayers in a play, is playing a swan (bird). The balet is also supposed to represent aspects of her life: she's struggling with her mental health, and it's alluded to , that her parent was se*ually abusive in the past .

In one st s4 movie "book of Henry"- it has CHRISTIANA (cough formal name for chrissy)do a dance that represented her sadness over her father's se*ual abuse of her.

So I think that may be what this seagull Monologue may be recontextualized to represent (or at least something akin to /relating to ab*sive parents). In the carrie novel- her dad was also a r*pist. And in the s4 movies hellraiser 1-2: KIRSTY accidentally lit her sex*ally abusive uncle on fire (who liked to be called "daddy"). Similar to jonathan lighting the demogogan (called "deep father" on fire in s1). In s4 films- hellraiser 2 & dream warrior: characters named kirsty/Kristen are sent to psych hospitals and have ab*sive family.

I believe her & Jonathan will parallel- and so we should pay attention to Chrissy’s environment /headspace for insignts on Jonathan as well.

Also (maybe a coincidence) there's the famous fiction book called christy. (Christian) Christy is based on a real woman named lenora . Hmmm you mean like lenora hills (where jonathan & El live) coincidentally- lenora is a version of the name elenor & jane (is a feminine version of the named jonathan). Aka all 3 may parallel!! Just in different ways...

#4 the literal meaning of Nina

*Nina can mean“enclosure of fish.” Which is interesting cause Creel means “fish trap”.

*The demogorgan (deep father)” feeds” /eats  his victims. Like deer *cough Jonathan's hunting story refernecing bambi. And we see during the dinner seq at the Creels is when (possibly possessed) Victor - the dad  (or some supernatural force) attacks the family (who have a fish related name). I also believe the son's name may be gil (nickname for William/like a fish gil). THE rabbit, seagull, and FISH immagery COULD be a clever way to connect the theme of ab*sive fathers .

Hi, its me again. 

This time around I thought I’d write about Eddie. The story of how we met, how we fell in love, how he proposed, and where we are now. Indulge if you’d like:

The story begins after being a Flight Attendant after 1 year. After a year of being a Flight Attendant, I thought I’d try my chance at working a second job. I thought of a lot of different places but one that stood out the most was working late nights at a bar. I’ve always been interested in spirit history and been to so many different bars at that point that I wanted to immerse myself into the community. One of my favorite bars was one in Downtown San Jose, Haberdasher. A tiny little cocktail lounge that I ventured on my days off. I was subscribed to their mailing list and saw they mentioned they were looking to hire. I decided to take the chance. I applied and was hired almost immediately. That’s where I met Eddie. 

In the beginning of our relationship, we weren’t really anything much. We hung out a few times, exchanged numbers, goofed around and flirted. It wasn’t until a fellow coworker of ours mentioned that he thought Eddie liked me. I didn’t think much of it until I texted him, “Hey, do you like like me?” How mature of me, right? He in turn responded, “Yeah, I do.” 

I wasn’t sure what to respond, it was only a couple months that had passed that I just got out of of a serious relationship, I was still vulnerable and so I wasn’t really looking for anything. I wanted to be honest with him and told him that. He told me that he wasn’t either. We began dating and having fun. Our first date was to a comedy club during late October and Christmas in the Park afterwards. I remember the first time we had sex was in his neighbor’s empty house with a fire going. It was nice. It was fun. We got along really well. He made me laugh one of those non-audible laughs that hurt your cheeks. We joked around and I hate to admit it because at the time I was trying hard not to like him but I couldn’t help it, I was smitten. 

After a month of constant talking and hanging out, I decided that I wanted to introduce him to my world. The world of being a Flight Attendant. This was a true test for me, the biggest downfall of my previous relationship prior was we couldn’t travel together. Being able to travel with someone is a love language to me, I was really nervous. I had a 24-hr layover in HNL coming up and decided to take him along. Needless to say, it was fantastic. We had such a great time in 24 hours. We ate a lot, drank a lot, had a lot of sex, and just learned more about each other. I was really trying not to fall for this guy. 

A couple more months had passed and it was now December, I decided for us to take a spontaneous trip to NYC because I had a 24hr layover there. I setup for us to watch Lion King on Broadway & eat and drink at The Aviary. When we arrived, we wound up taking the subway and walked around Times Square. We found a tiny  hole in the wall sandwich place that looked like a gas station that was run by a Korean lady. It was probably one of the best sandwiches I’ve had to this day. Lion King was breathtaking, The Aviary was a work of art. By the time we got back to the hotel room, I had a good buzz going and told him I loved him. He told me he loved me too.

He's Talking To Me Through The Lights!

Something that just hit me (and I'm not sure why I didn't make the connection earlier) is that we can't concretely say it was Vecna, or any version of Henward for that matter, that we saw in the shed with Will on Nov. 6th, 1983.

Now you're probably saying to yourself "Okay, James Henrysglock has finally lost the fucking plot". I promise you I haven't, and that I actually have a pattern that supports this. Please just like. Give me the chance to explain what I mean.

Let's look at the lightbulb in the Byers' shed when Will is snatched:

And we all go: "The lightbulb, like in the Creel family's attic! The blinding light! That's a trademark Vecna thing!"

Except it isn't.

First off, the lightbulb itself, while connected to to the Creel family's attic, isn't specifically a Vecna thing. It's also heavily attributed to HNL.

Second off, when we first see "Vecna" trance and kill (allegedly) in 1959, gateless kills, there is no blinding light. It's just flashing lights:

It's the same deal in 1979:

No steady, blinding light, just flashing lights.

So really, what's wrong here is the assignment of the light's behavior, that steady, blinding glow, to Vecna. Blinding lights have never been a Vecna-specific trait. Blinding lights are, in fact, consistently linked to gate events.

When do we see lights steadily flaring bright throughout Stranger Things??

Season 2: El closes the gate

Season 4: Vecna kills Patrick and opens Watergate

Season 4: El fights One

Now, this particular sequence becomes more complex when we consider a few confounding details:

1. El's Changing Eye Blood Between the blinding light sequence of teen El and the banishment of Henward by baby El, there is both a camera swap and a makeup swap. We never see bright-lights teen El again after this swap, despite irl El continuing to function in NINA the way she had been when her teen self was shown to us. This means we may not have seen the fate of whichever baby El teen El is representing, especially given that Martie and Millie match in blood pattern in BTS pictures (a blood pattern we never see on filmed baby El).

2. The Dematerialization-Gate Split + Mirror Swapping The gate and the dematerialization don't occur simultaneously.

Nor do they occur within the same mirror orientation, with the same crack patterns, or with the same bloody gown pattern. They are separate events. We do not see El open wallgate, even though we know, logically, that she did so.

3. The Lighting The lighting when El dematerializes Henward is identical to the time she dematerialized the demogorgon: Dark, teal-grey, flashing lights.

Why do I dredge all that back up?

Because the earlier bright light is most likely associated with the gate outcome. It's always a gate. Always.

"Okay, well, clearly Vecna opened a gate and yoinked Will, then."

Did he though? Because Vecna himself seems to think differently:

Vecna couldn't open gates until ST4, otherwise he would have done so earlier.

We also know it can't be the demogorgon that yoinked Will, either, because demogorgon attacks are associated with wildly flashing lights. The light in the Byers' shed just steadily brightens. I have a theory about the sound overlay, because a similar thing happens visually in 4.07 when they overlay the gate and dematerialization outcomes:

I wouldn't be surprised if there were multiple different things happening at the same time in different timelines re: Will's disappearance (I will touch on this below).

So, most of all, this begs the question: Why is the lightbulb in Will's shed behaving as though someone is opening a gate, when Vecna cannot yet open gates?

This leaves me with two main speculations:

1. The lights flared due to El opening Mothergate, given that that happened on the same day. El first contacts the Demogorgon at 1:33pm on Nov. 6th and panics. We aren't given a time for the opening of Mothergate, but it was sometime later, likely far later, given that it occurs during the shift of the guy who gets chomped in the elevator on the night of the 6th:

This would mean that someone else was in the shed with Will, likely someone from or in cahoots with HNL, which would explain how they were able to get his fake body accurate right down to the clothes he went missing in. Those may even have been his clothes on the doll, given that one of the newspapers said he was found being experimented on in HNL.

2. Will, panicking, opened his own gate to escape the situation. He ended up in the UD that way, hence why he's still wearing the clothes he disappeared in.

(Note, these situations are not mutually exclusive à la timeline theory and the differing newspapers surrounding Will's disappearance)

Either way, what the hell is going on here?
