Hello! I was wondering, what is Racing Hearts and what inspired you to write it? Finally, what's the hard part (and what's fun) about writing it? Thanks :)
Hi! Thank you so much for your questions about "Racing Hearts"!
It's a friends-to-lovers, slow burn mafia/dark romance that follows Lily, whose life is unexpectedly entangled with an Irish crime family due to her boyfriend's debts. This drags her into a complect world of organised crime. Where she reconnects with an old friend from Highschool; Finn, who is a trusted member of the Rossi crime family.
What inspired me to write it was my own personal frustration with traditional mafia romances lacking a healthy relationship dynamic. I wanted to explore a story where darkness and danger coexist with genuine emotional growth and respect between the characters.
The hardest part of writing "Racing Hearts" is balancing the intensity of the mafia world with the tender evolution of Lily and Finn's relationship. I'm still working on this balance I think as I increase the stakes in the story.
The most fun part has been crafting the intricate web of relationships and dynamics within the Rossi family, and exploring Lily and Finn's complex emotions as they navigate their dangerous circumstances while discovering deeper feelings for each other.
Hope this answers your questions.

Leather and Lark
Tumblr media
As a follow up to the Butcher and Blackbird book that took the book world by storm last year, this was a good book. It follows Lachlain and Lark, the older brother and best friend of Rowan and Sloane as they find love with each other.
It's not an easy road as Lark has to come to terms with her past as does Lachlain with his need to get out of the darkness that his childhood instilled in him
Overall, it's a good book to follow the first story. I'm also looking forward to reading Fionn's book, who is the third brother we meet in Butcher and Blackbird but there's no update on when that book will be released.

REVIEW
How the Hitman Stole Christmas by Katie Reus
Holiday with a Hitman #1
Over the top but fun with a dash of steamy romance that was a romp and a half in spite of being a stalker-ish, killer-y, hitman love story.
What I liked:
* I am sitting here smiling after finishing the book
* Elliana: grumpy, anti-Christmas, ex-Marine, wealthy, explosives expert in the security business who keeps a CLOSE EYE on her neighbor using drone and binoculars
* Theo: upbeat hitman, in a family of hitters, ex-navy, knows that Elliana is the perfect woman for him, protective, lethal, a bit of an exhibitionist
* The chemistry and dynamics between Theo and Elliana
* Theo’s family and how close they are while also being willing to welcome Elliana
* That the man who put the hit out on Elliana was rather easily found, as were the people he employed, and all were dealt with
* That there was murder but nothing graphic
* That it was a fun way to escape for awhile
* That it was quick and complete in the pages with the possibility of more in the series at some point in the future
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Wondering if a person would REALLY put a hit out on someone like Elliana for the reason the person did in this story
Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and KR Press LLC for the ARC – This is my honest review.
3-4 Stars
BLURB
Tis the season for a grumpy-sunshine romance with a side of murder and mayhem! She hates Christmas and everything that goes with it… Explosives expert Elliana hates Christmas—and the only good thing about this holiday season is that her gorgeous neighbor seems allergic to shirts and clothes in general. She knows because she’s been watching him for months with her drone. She’s never stalked anyone before, but he not only doesn’t seem to mind, he puts on nightly strip shows just for her. When she finally works up the courage to talk to him, she stumbles right into a murder—that he’s committed. But this holiday is one she’ll never forget… According to Theo, the whole murder thing is no big deal—the dead guy needed killing. And while her hot neighbor wants her, protecting her is his main priority. So when she’s targeted, this cinnamon roll hitman kidnaps her for her own good. With a deadly threat hunting them and a hot hitman who keeps handcuffing her to him “for her own protection”, Elliana is starting to reconsider her grinchy stance on the holidays. And when everything finally comes to a head, the results are bound to be…explosive.

A Lovely Morning
Harry had never given any thought to art.
She’d once or twice thought about the museum tours she’d had as a preschooler in the muggle world, and then the occasional painting she would pass with the thought of, “Wow, that’s really pretty.” She hadn’t thought about making art, with words or with images, until she saw Fon under the light of dawn.
Usually, she slept until Fon woke her with sweet kisses and coaxed her to sit down. He’d comb her hair and that, along with the gentle circles he’d press on her lower back, was enough to wake her up. It was more effective than coffee and a hell lot more effective than tea.
By some sorcery, she’d woken up a scant few minutes after Fon that day. He’d gone out to do his usual calisthenics, naked save for the pair of silk trousers and slipping on his cloth slippers. Harry had wanted to roll back to bed when she’d seen the absolute lack of sunlight, but something urged her to get up.
And by Merlin, was she glad she’d gotten up.
She hadn’t ever really thought of human bodies as beautiful. She could objectively say one person had nice arms or a pretty interesting eye color. But in a magical world where anything interesting was usually because they had an inhuman ancestor, she didn’t place much value in looks. She’d seen incredibly beautiful people and knew that the stories they had were more interesting than their faces.
While Fon’s face had drawn her in, she fell in love with his calm rationality and the way he could lay out an argument without shouting.
And while she and Fon had lain with each other for upwards to two months and she’d seen him naked in the hot springs more times than she can count, seeing him exercise was different.
There was an economy to his movements. It was clean and confident, nothing wasted as he moved his limbs and his body in twists and turns. Then he did a slow upward stroke that flexed his back muscles, making her tummy clench and Harry bit back a gasp. When he folded over, hugging his knees for five seconds, Harry clutched the doorway at the way it made his ass flex.
“Good morning, Harry,” he greeted her, flipping over on a handstand with his braided hair coiled around his neck. “This is a nice surprise.”
Morgana bless him and his intense focus. He didn’t notice that she was about to faint from her face going so red. Harry was so glad.
“Good morning,” she said, not at all strangled and sounding like a normal person. She checked for drool. “I have no idea what woke me.”
He then did a move that she knew, a downward dog that was just one hundred percent showing off right now. He wasn’t even sweating!
Harry wished, very fervently, that she knew how to write poetry. Or to draw. Poems should be written about the way the faintest light of dawn brushed across Fon’s muscles. Art should be drawn about that beautiful face closed in concentration, at the play of light and dark over his cheekbones. Instead, she was stuck admiring him with no way to immortalize the moment. Harry cursed her past self for thinking of art as boring.
Unwittingly, she whispered, “Full many a glorious morning have I seen,” A quiet whisper that should not be heard, except Fon had excellent hearing.
He fell out of his pose with a blush. “Harry!” he exclaimed, flustered.
This man. Harry had heard him say the dirtiest things. She’d shared a naked bath with him. She had done a lot of unspeakable things to him and with him. Fon was unfazed and coy, the teasing man.
But recite poetry and he blushed!
Harry had to laugh. “You should see dawn’s light touch you, Fon. It almost makes me jealous, the way it caresses you,” she mused, raking her eyes over his bare torso.
Fon rushed to kiss her, shutting her up.
But Harry realized, as she clutched at his shoulders when he carried her in his arms that yes, she can write poetry. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just heartfelt. Fon clearly appreciated it.
This was how sonnets were made, she mused, exchanging sweet kisses with him. Then he lay her down and Harry forgot to think of anything at all.

also i HATE when fandoms make up ships just for the sake of making them up. the biggest example i know is reed900, those guys never interacted and barely had ten minutes of screentime combined (and that's being generous), why do we have one fan-created full-length movie and multiple fanmade spin-offs based on them?
or in the TADC fandom, everyone immediately started saying "pomni and ragatha are in love" or "jax and gangle/jax and zooble enemies to lovers" or "caine x kinger >>>" or literally ANY PAIRING YOU CAN THINK OF. just for the sake of shipping. (for the record, i ship royalteeth; these are just examples)
now, am i saying i am against shipping culture altogether? absolutely not. i love shipping my silly fictional couples, often they are a source of comfort for me. but you cannot deny that some ships are made just for the sake of having characters in relationships - as if they wouldn't be good or even better off without one! who the hell came up with pomni x jax? they don't even have chemistry, are you just shipping them because main girl + main boy = love? is that really a good base for your ship?
this may just be because the concept of romance is beyond me as an aromantic person, but i swear, i am so tired of some of these ships. i do love a good crackship (lord knows what i've done with yansim, you would call me a hypocrite if you saw my fics) and main boy x main girl can always be done correctly (mostly if it's canon though, and not just for the sake of having the two main people in a straight ship) - conrisa (connor x risa from the unwind dystology) for example is an amazing protag x protag ship, but where conrisa excels, miracolev (miracolina x lev from the same books) falls flat for me;
but sometimes i do feel like shipping is done just for the sake of having a character in a romantic relationship, and not because the ship makes sense, has chemistry or interest in one another - just because romance is the way to go, i guess. another example is hank x connor from D:BH, my god, where the fuck did that one come from? it ruins the aspect of both characters as their stories have nothing to do with romance and they even have a father-son-like relationship! jeez people
and especially in media like TADC or hitman, which do not focus on romance at all but on existential crisises (TADC) and murder and moral questions (hitman), we do not need all the pomni x jax, gangle x jax, diana x 47, diana x lucas etc. nonsense. just enjoy the thing. just enjoy the individual character.
if this comes off wrong, i'm sorry - i have a lot of thoughts about this, and i cannot word it better <//3 i don't mean disrespect as, as i've said, i love a good crackship or just ship in general... it's just... why do we always have to ship everything and everyone?

Hit Man (2024) review
Tumblr media
Is it too late to start a campaign for Glen Powell to be cast in Knives Out 3? Think he’d fit right into Rian Johnson’s world of suspects. Also I’d just love to see Powell riff off Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc. Then again I’d watch anyone riff off Benoit Blanc. Gosh I love those Knives Out films - can’t wait for the next one.
Plot: Gary Johnson is the most sought-after professional killer in New Orleans. To his clients, he is like something out of a movie: the mysterious gun for hire. But if you pay him to rub out a cheating spouse or an abusive boss, you'd better watch out, he works for the cops. When he breaks protocol to help a desperate woman trying to flee an abusive husband, he finds himself becoming one of his false personas, falling for the woman and flirting with becoming a criminal.
The ever so reliable Richard Linklater has up-kept such a varied filmography, but one of which all the films have a certain vibe to them. They are all “chill” movies. Even his more daring out-there projects like the sci-fi thriller adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s novel A Scanner Darkly in the hands of another director would have been this sprawling cyberpunk noir epic on the scale of Blade Runner, however Linklater’s take holds this passive coolness about it, that only a Linklater such as himself can do. With his new film Hit Man, he’s following up his interest in picking out random crazy true stories from newspaper articles (as he previously did with Bernie, the 2011 Jack Black dark comedy that is a fine watch, but features arguably the worst movie poster in film history), and this movie has had one hell of a ride through the film festival circuit last year. Rave review after rave review painting this to be the best rom-com of the last century. Of course the last thing I’d expect is for something to be overrated, cause I mean that never happens, so naturally I prepared for the second coming of Christ as this film released on Netflix this week.
Hit Man is a perfectly fun Richard Linklater film, with a simple yet quirky story that is filled with enough twists and turns on the way, fantastic chemistry from its two main stars and yet again that signature chill hang-out feel the director is known for. Naturally going to give this movie credit where credit is due, it has already begun an online trend amongst folks on Letterboxd leaving one-liner reviews saying “it’s a hit, man!”, so now just wondering how long it will take for that joke to get old. Clue: it already was. However as for it being the best romantic comedy ever, it is far from it. Again, it’s a good time, but the movie relies most sorely on its superstar central performance.
Glen Powell truly exemplifies as Gary Johnson. To be fair, this role is a dream for any actor, allowing them to stretch their skills to take on multiple different personas, such like James McAvoy in Split or on a smaller scale Tom Hardy in Legend. And so a major entertainment factor throughout the first half of the movie was seeing Powell take on the different eccentric disguises, whether it be a stone cold generic hit man with a focus on attitude and professionalism (I’m assuming this was inspired somewhat by Alain Delon’s steely-eyed loner in 1967’s Le Samouraï); to a soft spoken Englishman dressed in 70s yellow, holding them oh-so eloquently as if he’s just walked off the set of a Wes Anderson production; to wading through the New Orleans heat while wrapped in black leather, the stub of a cigar poking through his stringy black hair, adopting a strong Eastern European accent to growl out his responses, very reminiscent of the stoic Russian stereotype from action flicks. It’s all fun and games and Glen Powell truly steps up to the task. To be fair to him the guy has been solid since I’ve first seen him back in Linklater’s other movie Everybody Wants Some!!, and since then it’s hard to overlook the guy’s natural charm and charisma. Even if he does look a little like a capybara - once again thank you to the lovely world of the internet for enlightening me with that comparison that now I can’t take out of my head. As for Powell’s counterpart, Adria Arjona is perfectly fine as the love interest, however he chemistry with Powell is off the charts. The two seem so natural riffing off one another that I found them much more believable to whatever Powell and Sydney Sweeney were up to last year (off or on camera that is).
The film does suffer from some pacing issues, especially to the middle when it lingers a little too long on the rom-com cliches, so much so that it slows down the film to a halt and I’m like I get it, you love each other, you’ve consummated this point a gazillion times already, so get on with it! But then it does get going again, and I really enjoyed Austin Amelio (Dwight from The Walking Dead) playing, essentially, the dick of the rom-com genre. You know the guy who always gets in the way of the couple and tries to screw things over. It helps that Amelio has a really punchable face, so he fit the bill. I also appreciated the infusion of philosophical insights during Gary’s teaching classes that provided an unexpected layer of intellect, elevating the overall experience. And this movie features some truly laugh out loud moments. Like it’s been a while where I’ve seen a modern comedy that had me laugh out loud. Usually I just politely chuckle. So yep, it’s a solid good time, and the two leads are delightful to watch, but this isn’t Linklater’s best work. Again, don’t let that sway you away, this is an entertaining little film for what it is. All pie is good pie.
Overall score: 7/10

Finn orders dinner, and they share a moment of connection over lasagna, during which Lily reveals her entanglement with Patrick because of her ex's gambling debt. After a successful session, they encounter Dom, Rossi's Consigliere, whose advances are rebuffed by Sofia. Despite the unsettling encounter, Lily gains a newfound sense of empowerment from the experience and starts to grapple with the complexities of Finn's involvement with the Rossi family.
Chapter Seven
Returning to Finn's penthouse, they find him immersed in paperwork. Sofia forgot to charge her phone, leading to a brief moment of tension. Lily confesses she spent the day learning to shoot, surprising Finn as they engage in some light banter. Invited to a family dinner, Lily agrees nervously. Finn reassures her and as they head out together, Lily finds herself drawn to Finn's confident demeanor and the anticipation of the evening ahead.
Chapter Eight
Lily arrives at the Rossi mansion with Finn. They are greeted by lively sounds of a gathering. Inside, amidst the warmth of the fireplace, Lily reconnects with Sofia and Anthony and meets the other guests. The evening takes a turn when a fire breaks out, trapping them momentarily. With quick thinking, they escape through a window, though Lily injures her leg. The firefighters arrive, and despite the chaos, they regroup and plan to stay at Finn's place. As they drive away from the burning mansion, Lily reflects on the night's events and finds comfort in Finn's presence.
Chapter Nine
In the aftermath of the mansion fire, Finn takes Lily to his apartment where he tends to her injuries with care. He cleans and dresses her wounds, their intimate interaction sparking a flutter of emotions between them. As the night progresses, they navigate a delicate balance of physical and emotional closeness, finding comfort in each other's presence amidst the turmoil of their shared past and uncertain future.
Chapter Ten
Lily navigates a harrowing nightmare involving her ex, Jack, and Patrick, the looming threat in her life. Trapped in the darkness, Lily's terror intensifies until Finn's sudden appearance breaks the nightmare's hold. They prepare to confront this new threat, knowing the safety of everyone they care about is at stake.

Finn, Anthony, Sofia, Gabriel, and Michael quickly devise a plan to investigate the warehouse that night, with Lily insisting on joining but told to stay in the van. As they infiltrate, Sofia disables security systems while Finn and the others gather evidence. Chapter Fourteen
Lily, Finn, and their allies find refuge in a secluded cabin as they strategize to outmaneuver Maverick. Tensions run high as they establish a command center and plan their next moves, with Lily suggesting a risky plan to use herself as bait. Finn vehemently opposes this, revealing his deep concern for her safety. As night falls, Finn and Lily share a heartfelt moment on the porch, rekindling their bond with a tender kiss. Inside, the group solidifies their strategy, balancing caution with urgency. The chapter closes with Lily and Finn finding solace in each other’s arms, a brief respite amidst the chaos.

Anthony, leading the briefing, outlines their plan to infiltrate a warehouse believed to be central to Maverick's operations. Sofia provides satellite images and security details, while Michael and Gabriel make tactical notes. As tensions rise, Finn reassures the protagonist, who is determined to contribute despite the risks. The team heads to the warehouse, where Sofia hacks into the security system, revealing guarded activity inside. They capture a guard for interrogation, returning to the cabin to extract information. During the tense interrogation, Anthony discovers that Dominick has been betraying them to the Irish crime family. The group plans to outsmart Dominick, using their knowledge of his habits and leveraging something he wants to trap him.
Chapter Sixteen
In this chapter, Lily faces a high-stakes confrontation at the park, where she’s set up as bait to lure Dom into the open. As she waits nervously, her anxiety is palpable, heightened by the cold and the eerie silence. Dom arrives, and despite the tension, Lily manages to maintain her composure long enough to draw her gun and expose his betrayal. With Finn and the others emerging to assist, the situation quickly escalates, leading to Dom's capture and injury. Back at the safe house, the chapter shifts to a quieter, more intimate moment between Lily and Finn as they process the night’s events. The chapter ends with the team preparing to leave, the gravity of their situation still weighing heavily on them.

Omfg MÄR is on the VIZ Manga app! This was one of my favourite things growing up alongside KHR!, Whistle!, Shaman King and Dragon Drive that I haven't heard too many other people talk about other than the people I grew up with. I still see KHR! and Shaman King mentioned here and there but Dragon Drive, MÄR and Whistle! feel gone from the talk in current culture. Though I haven't dived into the fandom tags of those so I really should give it a look. I can full on vouch for Whistle!, KHR! And Shaman King as masterpieces as I revisted them in the last three years but I still have to go back to Dragon Drive and MÄR. I guess this is my cue to go read MÄR. Well, as soon as I'm done catching up on Detective Conan.
