my opinion about the watcher news basically boils down to this:

watcher is screwing over a huge portion of its fanbase with this move considering how many people within it are teenagers who may not have access to streaming services, low-income adults who can't afford yet another streaming service (if any), and international fans who couldn't sign up for a US based streaming service even if they wanted to. it's okay to be angry about this, especially if you're one of those people who now can't support shows you loved or will be unable to see any of those shows going forward because of it.

and

youtube's payout to creators has dwindled in recent years to the point that it is impossible to fund the kind of productions watcher makes purely through it, and in order to sustain a company of 40+ people they need a more stable source of income not reliant on ads from outside companies and patreon, which, in this case, means a pivot to streaming. it's okay to be upset that creators you like have to turn to such methods to continue funding their work, whether you have the means to support them through these avenues or not.

if the early reactions to this move are any indication, watcher will probably not get the fan buy-in they anticipated and in all likelihood the new streaming site will either fail within a year or two because it isn't making enough money and take the company with it or they'll be bought out by a larger company and have their shows archived or deleted for tax purposes like what's happened to roosterteeth. it is okay to be scared by that potential future and seek to preserve as much content as you can before that happens.

Summary: Eira travels through Kattegat in fear, but a new perspective from Liv offers her a semblance of comfort.

The following morning, Eira got up as usual and prepared her basket with fresh supplies before starting her day. She hadn’t slept through the night, her mind endlessly replaying the moment on the docks. But she’d made it to the morning, and she accepted all the favor the gods would grant her. 

Maybe they hadn’t abandoned her after all.

Throwing her furs over her shoulders, she left for Liv’s. She kept her eyes down as she navigated Kattegat’s busy streets, only raising them to greet someone when they called out to her. With every step toward the longhouse, dread pooled in Eira’s stomach. She feared a Ragnarsson would appear behind her and embed an axe in her spine, though she didn’t know which of the two.

Then, out of nowhere, a voice pierced the air. “Eira!”

The blood drained from her face and she froze, her heart hammering in her chest. Her mind raced, and her first instinct was to turn and run, but then she remembered her decision not to fight her death. She tried to swallow the panic rising in her throat as her body went stiff, waiting for the inevitable. 

But then she heard a light giggle followed by the sound of small feet skidding across the snow. Eira’s body relaxed just slightly, but not entirely, as she turned slowly toward the sound. A little girl appeared behind a snow-covered barrel, her eyes wide with excitement. 

“Eira!” the girl repeated, running toward her. “Eira, look! I can run now!”

She couldn’t stop the smile that tugged at her lips as she knelt to embrace the child, tucking the unruly curls back into the six-year-old’s hood. “Hello, Runa. I’m so glad you’re feeling better. I told you it wouldn’t take long for that leg to heal! ”

“You did!” Runa nodded enthusiastically, her snaggle-toothed smile on full display until it dropped into a pout. ”But Mother said I cannot climb any more trees.”

Eira chuckled. “Well, you did break your leg last time, so your mother is probably right, huh?”

“Yeah,” she replied, sticking out her lips dramatically. “I guess.”

With a quick smile, she scampered off toward her father who spoke to a nearby merchant at his market booth. He hoisted Runa onto his shoulders as he continued talking, sparing Eira a kind nod from across the road. She’d grown to love the family over the months she’d looked after Runa, and she occasionally joined them for supper. The remaining walk to Liv’s house passed in a blur, and she hurriedly knocked when she arrived. 

“Liv! It’s Eira.”

She grimaced as a muffled commotion came through the door. What had Liv gotten herself into, now? But before she could ask, the door swung open, revealing the woman’s smiling face. 

“Hello, dear.”

Eira worriedly scanned the road for soldiers once more as she stepped into the house. The smell of sickness no longer wafted in the air, and Liv’s pallor cheeks gained most of their color back.

“How are you feeling?”

Liv eased herself down in the chair beside Eira’s with a grunt. “Much better. You don’t have anything for old age, do you?”

“Sadly not,” Eira grinned, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes.

Silence hung in the air as Liv’s eyes traveled over Eira. She saw her tense muscles, the worry etched on her face. 

“What has happened now?”

Eira sighed. “I fear I have done something that will cost me my life.“

Liv’s brows furrowed as she leaned towards her. “What have you done? Spit it out.”

Hesitating, Eira dropped her gaze to her hands, her fingers fiddling with the hem of her cloak. She didn’t know where to begin. “I…confronted Hvitserk Ragnarsson,” she admitted finally, her voice barely above a whisper. “At the docks last night.”

“What did you say?”

“I asked him why he was doing this to his people,” Eira said softly, half proud, half angry at herself. “And told him he was just like Ivar.”

Liv’s lips parted slightly, blankly staring at her. Then, to the blonde’s surprise, the old woman began to chuckle. The sound was soft at first but quickly grew louder, filling the small house. 

“Liv,” Eira cried, her brows drawing together. “Why are you laughing? Do you not understand the danger I am in?”

“Oh, I understand, Eira,” Liv replied, wiping a tear from the corner of her eye as her laughter subsided. “But gods help me, you’ve got more courage in you than anyone I’ve met in years. Standing up to a Ragnarsson? Saying all that to his face? You’ve got the spirit of a shieldmaiden, you do.”

“This isn’t a joke!” Eira exclaimed. “I could have signed my own death warrant. If Ivar hears of this-”

“But he hasn’t, has he?” Liv interrupted as her tone dropped its mirth and grew more serious. She leaned forward, gazing into Eira’s eyes. “You’re still here breathing and worrying over it. And if Hvitserk was going to run to his brother or kill you himself, don’t you think he would have done it by now?”

There was an inkling of truth in Liv’s words, even if Eira didn’t want to believe it. She hadn’t considered that. The hours she’d spent in dread, waiting for soldiers to tear down her door, suddenly seemed…unnecessary. But why hadn’t Hvitserk told Ivar? What had stopped him?

“I don’t know,” she admitted. “But I don’t trust him. None of them. They’re all the same.”

Liv tilted her head slightly, her expression softening. “Do you really think that? Ivar’s men would have cut you down for speaking out of turn, but Hvitserk didn’t, did he? Perhaps he’s not as much like his brother as you think.”

Eira frowned, unwilling to let go of her notions about the man. “That doesn’t absolve him of his part in this,” she said. “In what they’ve done to Kattegat.”

“No,” Liv nodded. “But perhaps it means there’s more to him than what you see…or want to see.”

“But how could anyone stand with someone so terrible, so…evil?” 

Liv’s wrinkled hand lifted slowly to Eira’s cheek as a sad smile tugged at her lips. “What would you do for a brother, hmm? What would you have done for Vali?”

Eira didn’t hesitate, tears burning in her eyes. “I would’ve done anything.”

This is gonna be short because the entire Shield lore covers about 12 years and getting all of that information at once will just overwhelm you (it overwhelms me just thinking about it).

Basic wrestling terms that I'm gonna be using throughout this post:

Heel - wrestling antagonists / bad guys

Babyface - wrestling protagonists / good guys

The Shield is a faction consisting of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose (he left the WWE and now goes by Jon Moxley). They were formed as a group to initially protect CM Punk from other wrestlers. This was short lived, and they quickly rose to being the most popular faction on the main roster. The Shield would attack both babyfaces and heels to fight what they would see as "injustice". Now as to what the specific injustice is, you're gonna have to watch back old promos to find out, as that's basically up to interpretation. I recommend going on the Wikipedia page because it does a good job summarizing the feuds the faction was involved in.

On June 2, 2014 Seth Rollins betrayed Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns by attacking them with a chair. By doing so, he sided with The Authority. His main motive was to elevate himself into being a main eventer, and the face of WWE. Seth Rollins became the heel, Roman Reigns was now the babyface.

Last night's Wrestlemania main event showed a lot of parallels between how Rollins attacked Reigns and betrayed him back in 2014, to Roman being so blinded by rage & hurt from his past that it ultimately cost him his record breaking championship. A steel chair to the back has been synonymous with distrust and unfaithfulness. Seth Rollins is the babyface, trying to save Monday Night Raw from Roman Reigns and his family because he has basically had a monopoly on the show for the past 3-4 years. Roman Reigns is the heel and this was born in response to being mistreated by the fans & the WWE product just being unwatchable in 2019 (this is an essay I would have to write about some other day).

This thread does a very good job of summarizing the significance of Roman and Seth's rivalry and why this past wrestlemania was 10 years in the making.
