WHY ARE THE DOORS SO TALL AND NARROW
Arbour Hill is derived from the Irish Cnoc an Arbhair which means "corn hill". The area was owned by Christ Church Cathedral during the medieval period and was used to store corn. The area first appears on a map in 1603 as "Earber-hill".

People in the comments of the Assassin's Creed: Shadows trailer becoming armchair historians trying to explain why Yasuke shouldn't be a protagonist actually are hilarious. Like besties this is a franchise where people can control eagles with their minds and a good 5% of the population are descended from evil psychic aliens. I THINK we can expand on a story of Japan's only-recorded African koshō without it jumping the shark.
#Assassin's Creed#Assassin's Creed Shadows#Actually losing my mind at gamer bros trying to logic a story that's LONG gone off the sanity rails#Like guys I get that Ubisoft 'prides itself' on historical accuracy but like#Ezio did not set Venice on fire Connor did not start the Boston Massacre and Shay didn't set off the 1755 Lisbon earthquake#Like we need to establish that this series follows historical details in some areas and then takes batshit crazy liberties in others#I hate giving credit to Ubisoft for their balls but.....yeah that took some nuts. Good job guys.#Absolutely wild that they're dropping preorders already. I will be eyeing this game's reviews but you're insane if you think I'm preorderin#Seta speaks

idk if holly has ever addressed the folk's origins but i have spent an unnecessary amount of time thinking about it and have decided they're immigrants
#the courts we know of are all clustered in the northeast#aka around the main port of entry (historically) into the us#maybe there are courts further west and south#but we don't hear of them#and the fae lore is european#(celtic? i've never seen an analysis of which lore tfota is referencing & that's definitely not an area i have much knowledge in)#meanwhile traditional north american teachings about the supernatural world#are indigenous and therefore varied#but from what i've seen do not contain anything analogous to the folk#so my headcanon is that the folk saw europeans emigrating and were like 'cool let's hitch a ride'#did anyone ask? no. but did i waste a lot of time thinking about it? yes.#tfota#the folk of the air#holly black#tcp#the cruel prince

Colonizers when they want to invalidate the Indigeneity of Native Americans: um well actually you came across the Beringia Strait so you're actually Asian and not "Indigenous" to North America, you're immigrants too, White people are "Native" to North America too if they were born there 🙄
Those same Colonizers when they want to invalidate the Indigeneity of Palestinians: actually I changed my mind, Palestinians aren't Indigenous to the Levant either because they are "Arab" and they were the invaders and it doesn't matter if Palestinians were born in Palestine
#like do you think Indigeneity means 'the first people at x area historically'#or do you think it means 'person who happens to be born at x area'?#funny how colonizers will swi#tch it up at their own convenience

guys i know the conversation surrounding the vackers’ accents has been beaten to death but. for people who didn’t notice (like myself). i’m rereading book one and on page 64 (paperback) it says,
“…You’re even a natural at our language. Your accent is perfect. Almost as perfect as these guys’.” He [Kenric] pointed to Alden and Fitz.
having alden and fitz, who are known for having crisper pronunciation of words, and sophie, someone that grew up in america where words are known to be pronounced harshly/bluntly, be examples of perfect or near-perfect enlightened/elvin implies that elves are supposed to sound not just like babies, but ideally sophisticated babies? or perhaps brutish babies. idk food for thought
#speaking of food. is part of their language being soft syllables because they eat soft foods and their teeth aren’t as blunt consequently#elves and teeth is a cursed subject historically in this fandom area so let’s not go back to elves not having teeth as an idea thank you#kotlc#keeper of the lost cities#kotlc shitpost#fitz vacker#sophie foster#alden vacker#tempted to tag kenric but this isn’t really about him…?

liberal zionists, "pro-palestine" zionists (???? do you people know what an oxymoron is) and every other type of zionist are all zionists at the end of the day. they are fascists and genocidal freaks at heart no matter how much they love to larp as progressives
#it's sooooooo bad when people confined to a concentration camp get stripped of their most basic necessities#and then get indiscriminately SAVAGELY bombed for a month straight#hospitals residential areas schools mosques churches everything that could possibly serve as shelter#or a reminder of their existence and historical presence in this life is a valid target#and as a result tens of thousands have been brutally killed many are disabled for life countless are orphaned#and a whole lot more are about to fall victim to the dire humanitarian crisis there#but it isn't a genocide🥺 they haven't been wiped off the map yet🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺

Some of the "Life in Early Ohio" fashion show in front of the Fort Meigs monument, showing a variety of working class and upper middle-class settler clothing of the early 19th century.
I love that the local reenactment group is so enthusiastically into researching historical fashion and sewing reproduction garments—which you would think would be the case with all historical reenactors, but that wasn't my experience with a WWI group years ago.
In the top picture a man wears a hunting frock at far left, and the other gentleman wears a round hat with dancing shoes. They were adamant on the term round hat as being more period correct than "top hat", and I think they're probably right since that's the term I've seen for Royal Navy midshipman hats in the same time period.
The woman presenting the fashion show noted that there is a contemporary drawing of Daniel Boone depicting him in a round hat, NOT a "dead animal on his head" lmao. (I appreciated the shots fired at coonskin caps.)
The woman second from left in the second photo has put on her spencer jacket to show the military influence on civilian women's fashion: compare the tape decoration with the coatee of the soldier standing next to her.

Happy birthday to Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington! (May 1st, 1769)
#Wellington is one of my “grey area people#I can’t hate the man because I’m just English enough (with still living ties there) that I grew up being serenaded about how awesome he was#but I also don’t love him either as he went to war with Denmark#a nation I have even closer ties to and affection for ;-;#my brain also blue screens at almost any thought regarding his love life#I guess growing up hearing the stories can do that to a person :/#historical#England#birthday#arthur wellesley
