party chat #56: nanba's transformation

beneath the scaffolding of a construction site, nanba holds a bottle of tea and asks "hey, you think i've changed at all since we met?"

the rest of the party, standing or crouching on the side of the path, turn to look at him.

"hm? have you?" ichiban tilts his head, hand on chin, and lets saeko pick from his chip bag. "i dunno, lemme think..."

adachi leaps to his feet, splashing his can of beer and surprising saeko. "got it!"

adachi snaps his fingers with a triumphant smile. "you changed how you part your hair!"

"huh?" nanba reaches toward the back of his own head. "nope, it's still the same..." adachi sheds a single tear.

hand raised high, saeko announces "right! your prescription changed!" ichiban taps a canned coffee on his palm in an "i get it!" motion. "what, are you trying to be funny now!? and that's wrong, too!" nanba retorts.

"okay!" han looks serious. "you changed the frames on your glasses!"

"you started wearing contacts instead of glasses!" zhao finger-guns with a grin.

"will you quit it with the glasses thing!?" nanba snaps at an unfazed, juicebox-sipping han. "and does it look like i'm wearing contacts!?" he gestures at himself. zhao smugly bites an onigiri, still squatting on the ground.

adachi frowns around a pocky. "huh? then what's changed?"

"never mind... sheesh." nanba turns his back on the group.

a view of the vending machine and soccer field across the way. "i just thought maybe i'd grown a bit cheerier since i met you guys."

"that's all." nanba doesn't see the party staring in shocked silence.

saeko, han, and zhao exchange fond looks.

nanba chugs his tea as ichiban approaches.

ichiban bumps his drink hand against nanba's.

"well, we already knew that, man." ichiban grins so wide his eyes shut.

"yeah, you smile a lot more than you did before, nan-chan." saeko concurs, offering him her chip bag.

nanba looks up, eyes wide. "ichiban... you guys..."

a hand lands on nanba's shoulder.

arm slung over his friend's back, ichiban cheerfully assures "and i noticed that you got some new lenses on your glasses, too." nanba's face falls.

the party loses it. saeko collapses on adachi, both doubled over in laughter, zhao cackles as his glasses fall off, and han clutches his head in despair.

"i didn't change anything about my glasses!" nanba roars. on the ground, a plastic bag of leftover snacks reads "#56 nanba's transformation".

because this still from 6x17 is from a similar angle and you can see the arm of the couch with the blue blanket draped over it

proving that if Buck had a new couch, we should be able to see a little bit of it!

just read the new mutants issue where Charles chose to stay behind in space and my god the juxtaposition between Charles trusting Erik and Erik joining the hellfire club and wondering at his own trust worthiness. I wonder how much of Charles decision was him ultimately trying to avoid the fact that his first class had seemingly betrayed mutant kind and not be willing to face them and how much of it was Dani and Illyana's reaction to him having Karma mind control Illyana. the fact that Illyana was depending on him to ease her mind through limbo and in choosing to stay he forced karma to do it instead, probably fucking up their relationship in the process.

I love him, this is crazy, how much of this is him trying to runaway and how much is this him not trusting himself to fix things and how much is it just him trusting Erik?

i keep trying to put into words my exact thoughts about the sitch but there really is a lot for one issue aintit... oh charles you and your brain...

So uh.... are we just going to ignore the fact that the Astral Bodies are reincarnated??? Like... Castor said (I think in the Lunar gets flustered episode...) that they indeed can die, and they are reincarnated, they just dont talk about their previous deaths at all. So... THEORETICALLY, they were most likely born with powers like Lunar, and they had to get training like Lunar... which means they had some sort of ATLA vibe reveal at a reasonable age they are a reincarnation of xy Astral Body, and from that moment on there is no going back.... And now I'm wondering, if Gemini having technically two separate person in one mind, and not in a Sun and Moon sense, and Castor answering with "You could say that..." when asked if Pollux is his sister leaves me with a million questions.

Sibling dynamic logically shouldn't be only an earthly thing, so THEORETICALLY, Castor knows whats a sibling. And also Castor and Pollux's dynamic, with Castor being silent, monotone and wise like an overly traumatized-but-got-used-to-it grown up, and Pollux being loud and quirky and child-like... I might read too much into it and jumping to conclusions (but I can at least headcanon), but Im having a feeling Castor went through shit before they officially became Astrals which Pollux might not even know of. Also the fact we get a kind of boy-coded and girl-coded (idk if they have actual genders tbh) characters in one, seemingly also girl-coded body raises further questions

so how do the movie ninja get into showverse? and what happens when they do?

The how isn't super important; in fact once the movie gang make it into show the story doesn't really look at movieverse a whole lot, because the Secret Ninja Force's journey on the Worst Interreality Roadtrip Ever is the important part!

As for when they do get into showverse... the five of them emerge in the Birchwood Forest, not too far off from the center of IceEmp_ver2.0's power! And it's only going to go off the rails from there 😊🌸✨

I kinda assumed dts would have multiple eps with a Daniel storyline and it would start with a Nyck is flopping ep so Buxton is like who will they choose to replace him Lawson is doing great in super formula but you don’t have an 8x Grand Prix winner sitting on the sidelines for no reason - fast forward to Hungary and Daniel performs well, then you have the Mclaren stopped flopping from Austria upgrades ep to break things up, then you get another ep that brushes on daniels injury then a montage that hyped up liam including that Singapore quali and then they touch on Carlos’ win, then they do a checo flop ep that features daniel’s mexico performance (and there’s also the inevitable max dominance, Aston Martin and Haas centric episodes sprinkled throughout)

wow you're so right??? he basically had two arcs this year so it makes sense that he would get (at least) two episodes—one for getting the seat in the first place and one for the injury and his return/mexico. and i'd forgotten about liam (nothing that happened while daniel was injured and away is real thanks <3), but you're so right they're DEFINITELY going to to position him as the threat to daniel's seat in the episode about the injury, with daniel ultimately coming back victorious with his p4 in mexico.
