#his depth is so important to me

Every time I rewatch episodes of camp camp I always find myself going to “Cameron Campbell the Camp Campbell Camper”. The episode where he dressed up as a kid to try and get David to lie and say all the messed up shit was his fault.

Anyway I think it has some of the most interesting moments. One of my favorites is Mr Campbell saying he wants to go hang out with Max and Neil and David, instead of encouraging it or getting excited at the prospect of giving Max new friends, he warns the guy and tells him he doesn’t think they’re first day friend material. That they’re a little much for a new kid. That’s INTERESTING. That’s a level of awareness I feel like sometimes people miss that David has.

Then it also has one of the most heart touching moments of the show (to me) which is solidly tied between the end of parents day, the last episode of season 4 I think it is where David gives Max the camera, and this episode. Specifically the moment where Mr Campbell accuses David, appalled, tells him that after all he’s done for David, David’s choosing a bunch of awful kids over him and in response David tells him “But that’s the job. You really don’t get that do you?” And then when asked by Max if he’s pissed off, he tells him no and that he’s just disappointed.

Like there’s something about that that means SO MUCH TO ME. I love that David is portrayed as this never ending happy guy but I LOVE LOVE LOVE when they show this maturity to him. When they show that he’s built for this job because he understands working with kids. He honestly knows what he signed up for, how kids work, and he’s genuinely prepared to deal with it and to forgive them because they’re KIDS.

His job is to take care of these kids over all else. He’s going to do his job and he WANTS to do it. He wants to be a good place for them.

do you ever think about how lucanis keeps losing and losing and losing — his entire life? losing his parents, losing his childhood because of the crow training, losing his freedom, his sleep, and one year of his life due to imprisonment. then the maker smiles upon him, and he's discovering something good (rook, the veilguard team, purpose), acquiring something back (his family, his life, his freedom, his job, his city), finding some peace in mundane things (coffee, cooking, taking care of others). it feels like the scales are finally moving, balancing — only for him to lose again. he loses caterina, he can lose his city to blight, he loses at weisshaupt, he loses grip on himself (thanks to spite), he loses control — he loses himself, piece by piece. rook can help lighten the load on his chest (thanks to spite), he gets caterina back, and breathing feels a little bit easier. but loss is not done with him. he loses illario, and it feels like losing a limb, a large piece of himself violently torn away. he's visibly shaken, but no one truly knows what it takes to string the assorted pieces of himself together and keep functioning. and then loss deals what seems like the final blow: some of his friends are dead or lost, and rook is gone, too. he failed; he only knows death, doesn't he? life only takes, and takes, and takes, giving only to tease and take it back. at that moment, he's falling apart completely — until they find rook, and there's a sliver of hope once again. the scales are moving, the team wins, they eventually go back to their lives — and that's when he realizes that the final blow is the life as the first talon.

5 Years

this game is 5 years old. truly, and genuinely, it feels like just yesterday that I first got the chance to play through Smile for Me.

The Habitat was there through one of the worst times in my life, and helped me not only through it, but past it.

this game holds such a special, unique place in my heart and i am so truly thankful to @limbolanegames for making and putting this beautiful game out into the world

Thinking about how complicated the relationship between Mithos and Tabatha is in Tales of Symphonia. How Mithos has such conflicting and painful feelings about her, he shouldn't care about this doll that was made to hold his sister's soul, she's just a failed experiment to see if Martel could be revived using an artificial body, she may as well be trash, a broken tool to be thrown away.

But she looks so much like Martel, she was modeled after her, has the same face as his dead sister, and as much as he resents her for failing to be a suitable vessel, he can't help but be comfortable around her. He can't help that when she's in danger his mind goes blank and he pushes her out of the way, she should be disposable and he shouldn't care if something happens to her, but for a single moment that's his sister and she's in danger and he has to protect her because he can't lose Martel again.

He hates her for looking so much like Martel because she was supposed to become Martel and she didn't, she's just one failure in a long list, but when he looks at her he sees his sister and it stirs up all of those positive feelings he associated with Martel, and at the same time he sees how many times he's failed to bring his sister back to life and it infuriates him.

one thing that stands out to me about the IVF arc is the way that, for as much as i make fun of her for asking her coworker if she can have his babies, scully asking mulder to be involved in the biggest process of her life (and the most important thing in the rest of her life) is such a healing and reverent experience. like he says “i’m absolutely flattered,” but it’s so much more than that. it’s like…spending your whole life feeling like you should’ve died at age twelve and then being told someone just wants more of you, more and more and more, in everything.

My appreciation for iris and ota as characters increases every time I play aitsf like I think the side characters in aini are more likable but they don’t have as much depth cuz you have to remember them in all these different points in time and their different relationships with all the protagonists and it gets really wishy washy but in the first game it’s just like. Here’s iris and ota, they’re fucking annoying and sketchy as hell. Please spend all your time with them 🥰

follows an Anishinaabe girl who who’s the top player in the VR game, and is constantly fighting to keep her place against the misogynist neo-nazi group in second place

as well as her real life, dealing with being a shy and self-conscious teen growing up on the Rez, and her brother having cancer

and a Uyghur boy who’s moved to her community from China after finding acceptance in an online community (even when he doesn’t agree with their more extreme views) - but when he gets to know Bugz, he has to decide who truly deserves his loyalty

great mix of sff and culture, the future while also very real community traumas of the past (and present)
