He doesn’t do it with everyone, so why specifically with Will? Why the romantic shift in tone, body language, and microexpressions are only reserved for Will? That’s not a coincidence—it’s acting. It's good acting

The thing is, people don’t want to acknowledge that Mike’s emotions towards Will are being played intentionally. It’s easier to blame "bad acting" than to consider the possibility that something is being set up that they might not want to accept

I hope they gave Finn some emotional scenes, I really think they did, since I believe that Mike is going to be targeted by Vecna, and the whole Holly may go missing thing. I doubt we will get it but I really wanted a scene of Mike thinking abt Eddie and cutting his hair (kinda like Bev from It but for different reasons)

Cherry Valance has found herself doing one of five things lately: either journaling, reading, talking with Ponyboy Curtis, listening to music, or talking with the boy who’s practically her brother Paul Holden. Over the past months, despite everything, she has grown closer and fonder of grey eyed Ponyboy. Every now and then they will hangout whether it be in the park, or at the drive in, the time and place doesn’t matter quite frankly. It’s just nice to have someone to talk to about well— everything. She’ll talk about Bob and some good memories with him, Pony will talk about Johnny and Dally — it’s a good exchange overall and she’s grateful for the boy.

Cherry sits on her bed, the book she’s been reading, They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera sits splayed out pages open and her black cat named “bunny” is laying near the book as Cherry writes in her journal. (Bob would always roll his eyes and smile when cat’s name would be called, “she isn’t a bunny darling — a bunny would like me and she doesn’t!”) Funnily enough, Paul was the one who suggested she starts journaling as they cuddled one night, “just write random thoughts Cher, it doesn’t have to be some beautiful thing, it’s a good way to get shit out”. And beautiful it is not, pages full of misused commas, run on sentences, and random lowercase letters — her writing is messy and the longer she writes for the messier her script gets… her latest entry is as follows:

Memo #5:

I know missing him is normal but it just feels so awful, i feel hurt and confused and sad. When he was with me he was the kindest boy — I miss the the way his cheeks would get all red when I would call him angel, with me he was soft — I know not many saw that version of him, paul mentioned he’s only seen that side of him a couple times.

But I know when he was with his boys that he changed. It was like a switch would flip and I would see it — I would know because the same thing would happen to me, I wouldn’t be cruel or cold — but I would gossip with the girls about basically anything and anyone. That night at the drive in, Bev was telling me about Mandy from trigonometry and how her boyfriend was out with another girl at the Dingo… I didn’t care — about Mandy, about any of it. But I listened nonetheless.

I remember I brought it up with him once, the way he would switch — he lowly told me to not bring it up, and I tried to explain further — “i get it angel, you feel like you gotta act a certain way around your boys, i feel the same way at times around my girls”, he just shook his head and tsked. His cheeks reddened from the pet name, but he wouldn’t bite — “keep watching the movie darling” he rubbed my shoulder as we lay in my bed. I obeyed.

I sometimes wonder what would happened if I continued to push further that night — would he have opened up? He always told me he wanted to be seen by his parents, how he yearned to be seen by anyone — and with me he felt that, at least that’s what he told me. but anytime I would try to understand him and have him talk with me — he would shut down and change the subject.

And when the liquor came into the picture it would get worse, he would steal it from his dad (sigh, the same father he would criticize for drinking and his inability to take care of his son — why mimic that behavior? I don’t know truly). I always hated drinking — at least the hard stuff because of my dad, and he knew that. He’s seen me break down about it, promised that he wouldn’t do it around me or our friends and keep it strictly to parties. That promise lasted less than a week, and the cycle would repeat itself ultimately my discomfort didn’t matter — what was in that silver flask did. (I forgot to write about this before but Paul sobbed the one night in my arms, wailing about how he shouldn’t have given him that flask… all I can remember is his ragged breathing and holding him in my arms).

I will always love bob I think — even if he wasn’t a good person all the time. I mean hell, I’m not a good person all the time, no one is. Both sides of this town are to blame for the three lives lost. I feel bad for pony, the way he talked about dally and johnny made me wish I could’ve seen that side of them. The side he knew, the boys that Paul used to play catch with over at Darry’s house. I wish he too could’ve seen the Bob I knew.

Healing isn’t linear and I know that but fuck!!!! This sucks — some days are worse than others and i know that with grief comes growth but :❨

Cherry lets out a sigh, puts the tasseled bookmark in between the worn pages and closes the journal, gently tossing it near the book that lie open on her bed, and Bunny doesn’t even stir, she is curled in a little crescent shape, still passed out cold. For a second, Cherry sits, uncrossing her legs as she gets up and looks at her vanity, her makeup bag sits untouched for days, she hasn’t really gone anywhere that she needs to be dolled up for. No date nights with her girls, no movie nights with pony, no rodeos with sodapop and chet.

Her phone lay face up on the vanity table the time reading 7:37pm. She turns off do not disturb mode and sees a text from the one and only ponyboy, it reads:

Cherry smiled as she liked his message — putting her phone back down on the table. She walks over to her closet for a hoodie and some shorts, she knows with time she’ll be alright. But right now, all that’s on her mind is a certain house on the east-side and a pinkish-orange sunset that’ll bleed across the skyline reminding her (and ponyboy) that there’s more to this world than Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Sharing my sick outsiders hcs because I’m sick and projecting

Ponyboy: when he’s sick, he’s SICK and literally all he wants to do is curl up and lay there. In contrast to how he normally always wants Soda, when he’s sick all he wants is Darry to comfort him and make it go away. He just wants him nearby, even if he doesn’t need anything. He will sometimes even go to Darry’s room in the middle of the night and kinda stand there until Darry invites him into the bed.

Soda: I confidently believe that Soda lives in a constant state of sniffles so he normally just powers through then comes home and crashes. But, if he’s super sick, he’ll come home from work, drag a blanket out from his room and throw himself down on the couch with his head in Darry’s lap while Darry rubs his back. And because I believe that Soda hates soup, he will pick the worst possible foods to eat when he’s sick and Darry needs to dig around to find something that is better for his throat that he likes.

Darry: Literally almost never sick but when he is it’s super bad, like he genuinely has Soda and Pony questioning if he needs a hospital. But normally, he just kinda lays in bed and Pony will bring him tea and Soda will convince him that he doesn’t need to worry about missing a couple shifts and that he and Pony are perfectly capable of making dinner (Pony is, soda is not). And at night, Soda and Pong will crawl into his bed and just hug him (yes, they get sick from this, and no, it will not stop them).

Two-Bit: An absolute baby when sick. All he wants is to be held. Sometimes his sister will come in a lay with him but usually it’s Marcia. He will call her, she’ll hear him sniffle and she’s immediately into caring girlfriend mode. She’s at his house in fifteen minutes with six types of tea, 18 packs of tissues, every kind of medicine imaginable, 14,000 water bottles, you name it. And he will literally make grabby hands until she gets in bed and cuddles with him.

Johnny: He used to stay out at the lot when he was sick until one time when Darry found him out there, felt he had a fever, and made him stay at the Curtis house. Now, that’s where he goes anytime he feels sick. And it’s not unusual for the Curtis brothers to come home and see Johnny sniffling on their couch while wrapped in a blanket. And the main thing that Johnny wants when he’s sick is his people showing they care. He loves when Darry makes him soup or when Ponyboy reads to him.

Marcia: Kind of similar to Johnny in that she loves knowing that people care. If she’s sick, Cherry will drop by with a homemade soup and her favorite tea, Brill and Bev would bring her some of his moms cooking, and Two-Bit would come by and just hold her. And yes, I’m confident that Marcia hated (and still hates) cold medicine and needs to be bribed to take it.

Cherry: This girl will try so hard to go through her day like normal if she’s sick, it got to a point where she was so tired she almost collapsed during her cheer practice and Bob took her home. When Cherry said she knew a side of Bob that was caring and sweet, yeah it came out so much when she was sick. He would do anything to make her feel better, she wants a certain food, he’s running to make it or get it, she wants to watch a movie, he’s already got it ready to play, she wants cuddles, his arms are wide open and waiting.

Bob: You thought Two-Bit was a baby when he’s sick? Yeah, bobs a bigger one. This man will literally start crying because of how bad he feels. It’s usually Cherry that takes care of him, but it’s not uncommon for Paul to drop by and help. They’re the only two people he trusts to see him like that and won’t judge him for it.

Paul: When Paul is sick, he will curl up in his room and wait it out. And when Paul is sick it’s normally for like a full week. He used to have Darry to come over and take care of him and make him feel better, but before Darry he did it himself, and after Darry he does it by himself. He thinks he’s a lot of work when sick and he doesn’t want to have to make one of his friends deal with that, so he’ll be shaking, coughing, and feel horrible in his warm bed in his silent house.

Speaking of female characters in The Outsiders, what do you all think their clothing styles and personality would be like? Characters we’ve read about or watched in the movie, what kind of depth do you think their characters have? I’ll try to give an idea of what I think. I also will say I don’t like a decent percent of the female characters bc of things they’ve been described to have done. Although Angela is the MVP we love her. @nexternalknowsthingz @thatonetotaldramaguy weigh in on this in curious.

Cherry: A girl a really tries to please both sides, can come off as arrogant and selfish but is forced to go along with what she is told (Socs forcing her to treat Greacers like trash). She although has a fiery side to her and has a big belief in her moral values (stuck up for Ponyboy at the drive in) she’s not perfect but I think she definitely tries and has good heart. 6/10 (God I hate her a lot though 😭)

Clothes:

Marcia: A genuine girl, shes very shy and polite. She can be sassy but also classy. Definitely also defends her friends like Cherry and is a real girls girl. Definitely also keeps out of trouble, she doesn’t trash Greasers but can believe some can be erratic or spontaneous into doing bad behavior. Doesn’t condone it but doesn’t make you feel bad for it. 8/10

Clothes:

Beverly: Now, forgive on this, but haven’t seen the musical so I don’t her personality at all. But she seems like she would take no shit. Think of Bubbles from the Powerpuff Girls. Very demure, very mindful, but will bust you right up side the head if she thinks you acting up. I can also see her being a bit of a toxic friend who uses people as stepping stones. 3/10

Clothes:

Evie: Steve’s gf. Not much is told about her in both the in the book and movie but let’s be real, she’s dating Steve. (I personally ship Soda and Steve but if we’re going cannon…) I definitely she a loving girl but someone who can PARTYYYY! A friend who would give the most amazing advice, definitely the girl who like knows what you like before you telling her, example:

Evie: “What you want to eat?”

Friend: “Idk I’ve never ate here before.”

Evie: “I bet you’d like (random food and drink combo)

You order it and you fucking love it. She understands ur taste. 10/10

Constantly keeps you on your toes and gaslights you till you cook

Sylvia: “You never talked about them, who are they? Where are you going?”

S/O: “I talked about hanging out with them this morning.”

Sandy: Well, she’s not good either. Definitely a little spoiled. Would def manipulate Soda into believing he was a bad bf bc he didn’t do one really small thing for her like pull her chair out in a restaurant for her. 😒 Miss literally cheated, got pregnant and left Soda. (Or Soda got her pregnant? Can’t remember lol) But I feel overall she’s very bratty and not fun to be around. 3/10

Angela: This bitch! WE LOVE HER!!!!!!!! Comes in clutch. Someone talking shit about someone she loves, smack to the face. Don’t like the way ur acting, ear gets pulled. She wouldn’t do this unprovoked either, like she would need good reasons. Def a lover to her friends and a fighter to her enemies. I also believe that she’s into exercise or weight lifting. Honestly in my opinion def the energetic on steroids version of Evie. 1000/10

- so what now is marbit where marcia leaves tulsa and comes back to visit. like literally marcia who doesn’t quite know where her and two-bit are standing so she’s like “so what now? should we talk? if we run into each other on the street, should i keep walking? so what now do you tell your friends? that things ended well, that i’m overdramatic, it was chill? do you lie and say you don’t wanna see me again? cause i do it too” also the “if i miss your calls im gonna cry” is so marcia (we’re going to ignore the fact that in the song, it’s the other person that left town)

- pretty girls as ace going out and having girl’s show interest in her but it’s actually just them using her for their own exploring

- tummy hurts reminds me a bit of martrip but mainly it reminds me of an au where bob survives but him and cherry still end up breaking up and this is kinda how cherry feels as he moves on

- i wish as the curtis bros dealing with the grief of their parents’ deaths (bonus: think of it as pony trying to come to terms with his grief from his parents’ while johnny is in the hospital ie “stay a little longer, im not ready for you to go. it hasn’t even happened but i have been mourning since 10 years old” just pretend the age is different)

- willow is supposed to be about talking to and helping out your younger self but i think it really fits as darry trying to help out pony. like a pony who has grown up and left tulsa for college but he’s really struggling and darry (and soda but the song specifically reminds me of darry) takes a day off to go and visit him and help him out

- 23 is 100% darry grappling with the fact that he’s still basically a kid and he isn’t as grown up as he seems to be and how he really struggles with his identity “tomorrow i turn 23 and it feels like everyone hates me. so how old do you have to be to live so young and careless? my wish is that i cared less” (not to mention “thought i’d be ahead but im down by 5. im on fight or flight and i still can’t fly” like everyone thought he’d be the one to make it out and be successful and ‘be ahead’ but now he’s ‘behind’ because he had to give up his dreams for his brothers)

they meet at a similar dinner party type of thing, although i don’t think they’re bonding over books, i think it’s music. and instead of him writing notes in the margins for her, he takes a tape or something and creates a mixtape type of thing.

marcia and two keeps seeing each other around because the families are friends and he definitely does the sly flirting thing that jess does where he doesn’t outright flirt with her but there’s definitely some flirting going on

trip hates him for being a greaser and for talking to marcia, marcia keeps trying to play it off as being friends

if you wanted to use the basket lunch, you could keep it pretty similar to GG, i’d just make it a school fund raiser and you HAVE to keep the call about the fountain head scene but obviously make it about music

you can do what you’d like, i personally don’t really care much about the whole lorelei not liking jess plotline, so i would personally cut it, but if you did want to do it you could use bev as lorelei. idk something to think about

most of the studying plotline could be kept the same, it’s pretty straightforward. two would probably be sent back to his mothers as opposed to a different city entirely

marcia doesn’t see two for a few weeks, but then at prom or something he shows up, while she’s there with trip, she pulls him away, they kiss, the whole “don’t say anything” yada yada

CHERRY VALANCE HEADCANONS

- cried for days because she thought royale high shut down on roblox

- used to bake with her older brother , Richie, as a kid and would always make him put the cookie sheets into the oven out of fear of getting burnt.

- enjoys barrel racing at rodeos (this isn’t really a headcanon i think this is just something a lot of people forget is mentioned in the book)

- allergic to bees… the first time she got stung her face got really red and she looked like an airhead. it genuinely so bad she was bawling like a baby at the age of 13. now she’s DEATHLY afraid of them ong and all bugs.

- captain of the highschool cheer team! uses it as an excuse to stay away from her house and drunk father as long as possible. “Practice runs until eight tonight Momma, don’t worry though about picking me up — I can walk home,” and she ends up walking around town for a while until she’s tired and need to make her way back home.

- an expressive talker, especially with her tone of voice more than her hands. raising her voice and “hmm”ing to show she’s listening. also with her expressions, furrowing and raising her eyebrows to show how shes feeling, smiling or averting her eyes depending on the conversation topic.

- she owns a cat named Kitty (her parents let Richie and her name her when they were young). super fluffy with rustic fur and dark eyes. she HATES bob and bob hates her right back. the beef started after she bit one of the sleeves of bob’s shirts and her teeth left a hole. the passion is unmatched. cherry always gets mad at him whenever he insults Kitty because thats her BABY!1!!!1!1

- bought bev, herself, and marcia matching friendship bracelets that she never takes off.

- is so stern about bob and the other socs drinking because she’s seen the way it affected her father. doesn’t tell anyone why she’s always yelling at bob for it, just says it’s “unhealthy” out of shame and embarrassment. she’s supposed to be the perfect west-side-soc girl, so why ruin that reputation? the only one who really knows is Marcia and now Ponyboy.

YES! (Yapping below the cut and it’s sooo much tbh) i love asks about the socs (and greasers ofc) but I just love yapping about them <33333 tysm for asking mootie and here ya go (once again I base things off my own headcanons sooo 🫶 also modern vibes bc I love that)

Paul:

- parents are never home — I imagine his dad his some big shot lawyer and his mom is a nurse at the Oklahoma general hospital in the city, they wire him money and only come home for major holidays (basically only married because they never see eachother and like they don’t dislike eachother and getting a divorce would be a lot of paperwork but they both definitely have side pieces

- kinda loves it bc he has a house to himself but also hates it — used to really hate it when he was little but he distracted himself by taking care of cherry and having her practically live with him

- on the off chance one of his parents call him (if he’s hanging out with friends, everyone just shuts up because either a. Someone died or b. They are doing a monthly “hey how are you” call that lasts a total of 2 mins

- jealous of Darry — feels so guilty about it because he knows Darry would literally do anything to be a soc (in regards of the money) but like the curtis parents are so loving and they treat paul like one of their own — they ask him to take seconds at dinner for christs sake???? He loves Darry’s parents truly so when they die… ):

- bc of this bev has a poor relationship with food and eating as a whole (as she dates brill they work on this together and brill is very understanding and patient— they talk it over with brills parents too!)

- lowkey Ed behavior and her mother is an almond mom I’m So sorry — like this girl lives in an ingredient household, “mom i want something to eat” “oh have a kiwi that’ll fill you up!”

- would get so nervous before recitials she would throw up and her mom would get mad at her ???? (Mom def has an undiagnosed ed)

- her parents want her to be perfect and never mess up and have wonderful grades and for this reason they kinda dislike brill (will never outright say it) bc he’s trying to “change her” (aka trying to help heal her day by day and help her bc he’s loves her)

- jealous of brills parents and their relationship— but incredibly thankful for them, they know more about bev and her life than her own parents do tbh

Brill:

- as said above his parents are very loving and basically the soc version of the curtis parents are

- he feels like he can go to his parents (especially his mom no matter what — his father taught him that you always treat girls right and you never lay a hand on them, that’s why he’s so good to bev)

- his parents are so in love it’s sickening like literally one time paul came over and just starting crying watching them being all lovely and they comforted him and he explained that like he’s never seen that kinda love and brill feels so bad ))))):

- obvi not blood siblings completely (related thru their dad but diff moms)

- both sets of parents are absent (up and left just didn’t want either of them — so they live with their grandma or at brills place — sometimes Paul’s)

- for a while trip was scared that cps would be called bc some neighbors are super nosey

- their gramma kinda stopped parenting them once they got older (bc she knew they were independent — still cares about them but like she knows they are smart — she knows they are going to be rebellious “just don’t get arrested or die please that’s all I ask”)

- their gramma is very nice and makes them cookies at times or random snacks in the fridge with a lil “for you or your friends!” Sticky note on it

- grammas husband passed of cancer a few years back when trip was 9 he kinda remembers him but not really

- chill home, chill vibes but trip is so scared what will happen once gram dies (what will happen with melvin??? will he have to take custody???) he doesn’t think about too much or else his throat gets all tight. jealous of brills homelife but thankful for him and his fam

- stops hanging around the soc gang once him and Marcia break up… (melvin and sergei hang around pony — the trio ever!)

Marcia & Segeri:

- both parents are present but aren’t in love but won’t get divorced (should be but her mother is financially dependent upon her dad, her mother is emotionally closed off and will not speak to Marcia unless she speaks first)

- dad is a doctor (eye doc) and owns his own small clinic(?)

- kind man but overworked and hates his life kinda but loves his kids — sergei basically lives at Melvin’s and both parents like that kid so it’s chill

- kinda on the lower class of socs (not super rich like bobs fam) but still socy enough — parents just live their lives, they don’t party or drink or gamble they just exist within their house and go to work

- finds comfort within chet paul and cherry (and ponys gang — i hc they are all friends with time <3) (+marbit my beloveds)

- Marcia barely speaks to either of them and likes it like that kinda — sure she wishes they were closer but knows that she can find a connection like that in others (same w her and Sergei — they don’t hate eachother just the age gap is odd and there’s a disconnect between them, also their humor is different bc of that)

Cherry:

- smilar to book cherry obvi — dad that drinks and mom that is emotionally closed off and emotionally abused by her dad

- her dad yells a lot and they argue but it’s over trivial things and anything can set her dad off — she feels like she’s walking on eggshells a lot (is sympathetic towards her mother bc she truly is a victim but also not ?? It’s all very confusing for cherry and hurts her head)

- she doesn’t know if her dad is physically abusive because she’s never home and if he does hit her mother he never does it in front of her (she knows mother would never tell her if she was being hit) (he claims he has never hit her mother — (but also claims to cherry that “I should’ve hit you more and maybe you’d be better” and “my parents hit me and I’m fine!” (He’s not fine but he doesn’t see that obviously) (paul wanted to kill her dad when Cherry told him that the one night… she was laughing about it like she didn’t just say something so heartbreaking (it’s how she copes)

- similar to Marcia’s parents, they don’t talk — there’s no reason to she tried to force a connection between them and her but as she got older she realizes it will never happen

- finds comfort in her found family and loves them how she knows her parents should’ve loved her like that — she shouldn’t have to find that comfort in others (or in brills parents ): — she’s grateful for the brillsteins)

Chet:

- youngest child + youngest soc (has siblings but they are all 10+ years older with their own lives + doesn’t rlly know them) chet yearns for community and a sibling bond and friends (finds that with marcia + paul + cherry + ponys hang)

- chet being jealous of soda bc his parents were so fucking good when they were alive — feels bad bc he knows soda is mourning and he loves the boy and he feels all dirty for being jealous about that

- feel like his dad is a state trooper and has a k9 dog and the old retired one his Chet’s best buddy and comes over Paul’s house — his dad is either home or at the station an hour away. Maid comes often like once a day to check on the dogs and just house sit — empty but chill (dad and chet used to be close kinda but then chet realized he was queer and the disconnect started)

- his dad isn’t homophobic but he isn’t gunna say he’s proud that is son his gay bc he doesn’t care genuinely— like okay whatever — chet craves validation and comfort verbally and knows he won’t get it (yearns for it) similar to bob in that sense — also has beef with bob bc bob thinks he’s Paul’s favorite little brother and it makes chet lowkey insecure

- chet is never open with his father about his feelings bc father is a hardass lowkey like not a military guy type but like him and his father are basically roommates at best

- used to fight tooth and nail and get screamed at and called names begging for affection and attention but never received in the way he wanted, knows his father loves him — but everything he stands for goes against that statement

- his mom is around and calls like once a month — her and the dad just fell outta love no hard feelings or anything — lives in another state with her new family + kids, sends chet a card in the mail every now and then and calls every couple months (not mad at her but there’s no real connection and chet is okay with that tbh)

I was thinking so much about Close By but it’s Martrip so here’s my reasoning why in yap form

Is Trip when he realizes that Marcia is willing to learn and understand him. She wants to. But he also knows that she keeps an eye on him to make sure he isn’t doing something stupid. She thinks he could be a really nice and sweet guy, so she gives him a chance.

“She’s just my type of pretty and she doesn’t give in too soon

Hard to get is so hard to come by these days

She won’t admit she adores me but she’s never so far away”

She doesn’t immediately agree to start dating him. She likes him but she wants to know him first. So they talk. They spend time just talking about their days and their families and their lives.

After they start dating, Trip finds himself beginning to lie to her. He tells her he’s just going to go over to Brill’s and they won’t do anything but in actuality, he’s going to get drunk with them and jump some greasers. But she doesn’t need to know that. What she doesn’t know can’t hurt her. So he starts lying even more.

“It’s the sun in her hair and the summer was brighter with her right”

That’s the summer they spend together. Trip thinks it’s amazing. She’s always with him, he can hold her close when they’re with their friends. They can tease each other and spend their time going on dates and just being together. There was one moment when they were walking back to her house, that he looked over at her and thought about how gorgeous she looked. The sun was shining off her smooth brown hair and her eyes were closed as she smiled. So he took her hand and squeezed it, then kissed her.

He found himself always being seen by her, even when he didn’t want to be. Like the nights when he’d show up at her door with bruised knuckles and a bloody nose and she always knew it was because he was getting into fights. She wasn’t as vocal about it as Cherry, but she hated fights just as much. She hated that she made herself believe him when he said that some kid tried to jump him so he fought back. She hated that she cleaned him up as she ignored the alcohol on his breath.

The first time Trip said he loved her was after a fight. He showed up on her doorstep with a giant bouquet of flowers and told her he was sorry, the “I love you” just slipped out too. He knew it was true though, he’d known for a while. He was wrapped around her and he hung off of her every word and he lived for every touch.

He loved her. Really, he did. But it was hard to convince her of that after she was running away after they’d jumped a greaser in the park. He tried his best to come up with a little white lie to tell her about why they’d done it, but what could he say? He had no real reason beyond they were mad about Bob being killed and he was close by and a greaser, so they’d picked him. He glanced up as Bev pushed her cigarette into him and he saw Marcia’s face twist with fear and pain. Shit. It was getting harder to keep her close and this certainly wouldn’t help. So he made up some bullshit lie about the boy doing something earlier. She didn’t believe him. She didn’t even try to. It was when he truly felt her start to drift away.

eddie has really bad imposter syndrome when it comes to his symptoms because he finally came to terms with the fact that his childhood illnesses were fake and so he gets in his head about it a lot

it doesn’t help that he gets phantom pains even though he can’t feel his legs anymore so it freaks him out a lot

but richie’s always there for him to vent or talk about his fears with and he always seems to know exactly what to say to calm eddie down, reminding him that it’s okay to need a wheelchair now and for richie to help him with certain tasks and that it doesn’t make him weak

richie really tries to balance helping eddie with things and not being overbearing so he does worry sometimes but they learn to communicate more openly so that there’s no built up resentment or anxieties on either of their ends

richie gets tic attacks where he hits himself repeatedly and his neck jerks and he tenses up and can’t stop it or unlock himself and he can’t get any words out because he’s just humming every second and eddie doesn’t try to stop him because he knows it won’t do anything but he strokes richie’s hair and distracts him with stories of his last outing with bev or the phone call he had with stan and it helps richie to have something else to focus on

and after it’s over eddie will massage the knots out of richie’s neck and shoulders and rub icyhot into his skin (their house is always stocked) and he lets richie lay on the couch with his head in eddie’s lap so he can rest

when it’s rainy richie’s joint pain tends to be worse so they typically don’t go out much those days, they stay in and order takeout and watch silly movies and eddie will massage his feet even though he hates feet because he knows it helps for when richie stands back up even with his crutches

richie ties eddie’s shoes for him every morning. eddie has an album that’s just richie in different positions tying his shoes. kneeling down, laying on the floor, hanging off the end of their bed—it’s silly and eddie loves it because it makes him feel better about not being able to bend down even in his chair

they take turns making special baths for each other when they’re in more pain than usual, lighting candles and putting epsom salt and essential oils in the water, and then they’ll wash each other’s hair and body so so gently

decorating each other’s aids. cleaning them as a nice surprise when it’s been a little too long since the last time. making sure to always have at least one bottle of tylenol and tube of icyhot in the house at all times. reminding each other to take their meds. like i love them so so much i just think they’d treat each other so well
