Oh, this is such a difficult--if not nearly impossible--choice. Both David and Michael were utterly brilliant in their respective roles, but in completely different ways.
Having seen both plays this year (albeit one of them on a screen instead of live), I have to consider each performance in the context of the production. Michael as Aneurin Bevan was the anchor of his play, the central performance around which all the other performances revolved, and a steady presence in the midst of an occasionally chaotic staging. David as Macbeth was a shining light at the center of a taut, intense ensemble in a play that was minimalist in design yet immaculately staged.
The one thing I can say with certainty is that neither production would be the same without their respective performances. Both of them elevated either the material they were given (Michael) or the performances of everyone around them (David). But putting them up against each other is really challenging because they are such wildly different characters and performances.
What I would really love is to see this end in a tie with David and Michael both winning, but I know that isn't likely to happen. But I also know that if one wins and the other doesn't, Michael will be the one celebrating David's win the loudest (and vice-versa). So in thinking of this particular award, I can only think to vote with my heart and feel reassured that Michael and David (and Cush!) are more than deserving of it, regardless of what happens.
What do you all think? Any idea who you are voting for? I'm interested to hear what folks have to say!

The National Book Award’s jury doesn’t even have to worry about being overruled! It’s not like with the Pulitzers, where there’s a history of the general committee overruling jury picks they think are too out-there. Like in 1976, the general committee refused to give the award to Gravity’s Rainbow. They thought the book was too long, too obscure—that the jury was just having fun, picking something they liked, instead of something that was of interest to the general reader.
wait, the Pulitzers did what? lmaoooo
Similarly, in 2012, the exact same thing happened. The Pulitzer Prize three-member fiction jury offered up Karen Russell’s Swamplandia, Denis Johnson’s Train Dreams, and David Foster Wallace’s The Pale King. The fifteen-member general committee declined to give the award to any of these books, instead opting to give no award. They didn’t give a reason, but presumably they thought the books weren’t very good. It is a bit funny that whenever the Pulitzer Prize committee does choose to exercise its discretion, it does so in order to refuse recognition to authors who are actually good, like David Foster Wallace and Thomas Pynchon. I haven’t read The Pale King, but I’ve read most of his other work—it’s quite difficult, but it’s stuck with me and influenced me in a way most Pulitzer winners haven’t.
incredible...
bonus surprising fun fact of the day:
By the way, out of that trio of war novels I mentioned, the only one that came close to winning an award was Slaugherhouse Five, which was nominated for both the Hugo and the Nebula awards in 1961. That mostly happened because sci-fi fans thought of Vonnegut as “one of us,” and we tend to be very chuffed when one of us writes a book that gets broader attention (Michael Chabon won the Nebula for The Yiddish Policeman’s Union for a similar reason). But still, it shows the value of having a naked popularity contest.

This is adorable. #Fanboy might also be my favorite tag that Georgia has used in a long, long time. It's so earnest and geeky, yet so perfect. David is a Michael fanboy, through and through, and doesn't need anything beyond a picture with the Nye poster for us to see exactly how he feels. That we also get the dimple on his cheek working overtime in this picture is just a delightful bonus...

Revolution Volume I: The 1960s Counter Culture & Rise of The New Left
Source:Amazon– RogerKimball’s book. Source:The Daily Press From Amazon “I’m into the study of revolutions, not the coopting of revolutionary rhetoric to sell capitalist merch. I’ve cut together clips of 1960s radicals discussing the politics of their time to give young people a sense of the intense revolutionary fervor of that era. Americans today have been presented with a flattened out, cliche…

What would a "fursona" look like for furries in different sophont societes? Like a human's fursona is an animal walking on two legs with two arms (even if the species wouldn't have them, like snakes) but with an animal head and tail. Also: what's the morality of having a fursona that's a sophont? What percentage of humans' fursona are based on "animals" from other planets?
To be clear. Furry subculture is specific to humans, and it's no longer really present in RttS's modern day because it's been centuries and the cultural context has shifted too much. Humans in RttS are about as likely to identify as furries/have "fursonas" as a human from 2025 is to identify as a Wandervogel. There are a few modern RttS subcultures and fandoms with a focus on humanoid animals, but they are as dandies are to hipsters, a comparable social pattern repeating in a different context. I can't say for certain if anything resembling furry culture exists in other sophonts, but if it does the vibes are gonna be quite different.
Animal-headed and mashup designs are fairly common for centaur and avian cultures like they are for humans, sometimes as monsters, or mythical beings and gods, or speculative fiction species. Bug ferrets are not big on "anthro"pomorphism and animal mashup designs tend to be exclusively a horror and monster trope. Appealing bug ferret "anthros" tend to have some minor unobtrusive feature tacked on to indicate their status (think catgirl ears and angel wings), or only a vocal or motor tic.
As for having a fursona of other sophont, I, hm. I think that exclusively within the context of this setting... where those sophonts actually exist as beings from other worlds with complex social histories and political relationships with other aliens... having a fursona of one is closer to race kinning or being a weeaboo than anything else. Cringe at best, insulting and harmful at worst. If you live in the RttS universe, I don't recommend doing this. Luckily, you don't, so you are safe from having to worry about appearing culturally insensitive to foreign nations of hexapods and wing-walking birds.
