Hate when character deaths are predictable because then I sit there like “please don’t kill them” while simultaneously knowing that they have to die because it’s been foreshadowed and now their death is essentially a fixed point in time.

I know the decision to have Julian's parents have him augmented was made on the fly but imo its pretty obvious from early on that Julian has Family Issues because he avoids talking about his family like the plague and I think they should've incorporated this into the Julian and Sisko dynamic right from early on because I think it would've made for some really compelling stories and moments and could've set up a REALLY interesting Julian and Jake dynamic which they kinda started to do but never fully went for
#star trek: ds9#julian bashir#benjamin sisko#jake sisko#s1 Julian being so young and eager to prove himself and latching onto Sisko as this mentor figure to look up to#seeing Sisko with Jake and low-key seeking that fatherly figure connection which he won't even let himself think about#Sisko seeing this young brilliant doctor who's got all the makings to be something great and he's just GOTTA help him along#I think he would also catch on pretty quick that Julian's got Parental Issues#he tries to ask one day all casual like 'tell me about yourself :)' and Julian talks about nothing but Starfleet and med school#any attempts to ask about his family are met with awkward brief answers and redirections#and then theres the way Julian's eyes light up the first time Sisko invites him to watch a baseball game#like he Knows. he's a dad he Knows somethings up#but he doesnt pry#I also think it makes their dynamic more tragic towards the end of the series#where we have Sisko asking Julian to compromise his morals again and again#Julian's trust and respect for him gradually deteriorating#and then at the end of course Sisko is gone and they have no idea when he'll be back#which I think Julian would have a lot of complicated feelings about#but of course theres also Jake#I imagine they'd get closer#very brotherly dynamic#you know that scene in TNG where Wesley goes to Riker for girl advice and Riker and Guinan start flirting?#absolutely happens but with Jake asking Julian for girl advice and Julian wooing a girl at Quark's and Jake absolutely loses the plot#makes the events of ...Nor the Battle to the Strong more intense as well I think#also I like to think there'd be an episode where the B plot is Jake gets mad at Sisko and impulsively decides to move out#ends up at Julian's because he did not think this through#Julian is now very much caught in the middle of this family drama and he Fucking Hates It#also him and Jake are NOT compatible roommates but he's trying so so hard to be nice#eventually they have a talk and Julian cryptically hints at his own home life and tells Jake he's lucky he has a dad who cares so much#them being closer would work into what Alone Together sets up for them

Obviously Gallifrey is constantly destroying itself and generally fucked up, but I do like the idea that there’s some life to it, if only in the background. There are children playing in the streets and students at the academy with dreams of the future and random people who aren’t politicians doing like science experiments and writing books and stuff. I want to see the positive side of time lord culture from time to time

Ya'll ever stop to think about this piece of dialogue in Human Nature when Ten is going to use the Chameleon Arch:
DOCTOR: That's why I've got to do it. I have to stop being a Time Lord. I'm going to become human. Never thought I'd use this. All the times I've wondered.
Like, imagine him sitting in the console room staring at it while Rose is sleeping just wondering what it would be like to become human, being tempted, wishing for the one adventure he can never have.
And this being in a two-parter where we have these lines "That's all I want to be. John Smith, with his life, and his job, and his love. Why can't I be John Smith?" That to me seems more like Ten seeping through in the way he did through John's dreams...
Anyways. Just hitting me real hard today 🥹

i'd rank the doctor who threw a guy into a pit of acid, abandoned an old friend after she'd been tortured for twenty years straight and once tried to strangle his companion as one of the kindest, most affectionate versions of the doctor

The Doctor: humans die so soon :( they're so weak :( and they age :(
Jack: I'm literally undying and unaging –
The Doctor: damn can't get rid of this bitch :/
Jack & Ashildr: Doctor our immortality is literally your responsibility. And if you take us with you you won't have to worry about putting us in danger !
The Doctor: I need to get away from this bitch as far as possible

"Mums eh? Even when they're gone they never stop saving you."
Seeing loads of people respond to this saying their mum was awful. The Doctor has more than one mum, y'know.

the gut-wrenching part is that fourteen, for all his emotional intimacy and growth, is so similar to ten: both of them can't tell even the people they love the most what is hurting them.
but if some sci-fi reason allows that other person to see him at his heart, with all the pain and anguish inside him, he immediately falls apart and reaches out with everything he has.
it happened when Madame de Pompadour saw inside his mind and understood his true loneliness. it happened here when fake!Donna described to him all his sorrows and provided what seemed like a safe space.
he wants to be comforted so hard, but he won't allow himself the pain of the work it takes to TALK about it.
and the awful part is fourteen is taking steps towards it, but even in the end, he can't quite bring himself to tell Donna what he talked about with fake!Donna. It hurt too much.

ruby sunday should have been the daughter of one of the susans created by sutekh. this concept fills so many plot holes left in this season and makes the themes of family and identity much more coherent and stronger, in this essay i will

If there ever was a star trek crossover with doctor who I'd be so sad if it wasn't 12 and Bill with the original crew. I have this vision of Scotty's face lighting up like a child at Christmas when he realises another Scotsman has appeared on board in a ship that's bigger on the inside and time travels.
12 and Bones quickly decide there can be only one cantankerous old doctor on the Enterprise. They eventually have to get along thanks to their mutual need to help others and complain about it constantly but the first time Kirk says "doctor" on the bridge and Bones realises Jim ISN'T talking to him he just rolls his eyes like

Maybe it's just me but something about this season of Doctor Who and the whole structure very much feels like it is set up for 3 seasons. Everything about this season and plots of Doctor Who has very much felt like the beginning to a longer season arc and I am curious if that is why they have already finished some filming because they have written it that way.
It would be interesting because we have never seen something like this before but I can not see any other explanation for the limited episodes and some of the storylines.
Here is why I believe it:
Ruby's story is starting to be told. We have sort of uncovered one side to her parentage while another is still a big question mark and both need to/feel like they will be explored. It feels like the end of this finale was clearly a set up for Ruby's actual story of family in the next season where there will clearly be some conflict (maybe her biological father doesn't want her , maybe she is confronted with the two versions of family she now has) that will be the focus of her storyline while also leaving some room for her to still be a companion. It seems very obvious to me that Ruby's story is written for maybe 2 seasons with a special as a last ride and therefore we are already going to be lightly introduced to the next companion once Ruby's story is told.
Ms Flood feels a lot like Lemony Snicket from ASOUE (the TV Show as I have never read the books.) I feel like we will continue to have her be a present point to us as the viewers in some way before the season 2 finale will finally confront her with the doctor and will give season 3 either the chance to be her story as a villain or to explore her role as morally grey character. It seems obvious to me that since the specials she was hinted at being a long term reoccurring character that is clearly part of a much bigger picture. I imagine with the end of Ruby's story will come a split where we finally get to meet Ms Flood on her own and have her actually interact with the doctor for her actual purpose.
Rogar ap Gwilliam. I know we technically had his hints resolved in 73 yards but especially now with his call back in the finale and all the hints we have had for him throughout the season, I am convinced he is going to have a bigger role in season 2. It just feels to continent to have him appear once yet still have him haunt the storyline in some way without there being more to him or his character. I could totally see him especially with his connection to Ruby be the villain or a big plot point of the second season.
Susan. With all the talk, the hints etc. there is no way we are not seeing Susan in some way/form or other. She was already hinted at in 12s run and with 15 she has been more prominent than ever. Not delivering on that, not having some kind off pay off for the suspension and conflict that now has already been built around her would be the cheapest and worst decision ever.
Sutekh. While I fairly confident he won't actually be back, we have now opened this whole can of Gods possibly influencing the story but first and foremost be real. There is clearly more to this than just his one appearance and God's as a conception will clearly return in some way, maybe even bring someone like the Trickster back to make this an ever more present fact.
All these plot points, all these characters have slowly been set in motion, have slowly begun to build up and some like Ruby are finally beginning to have their story told. But overall all of them on their own very much feel like set pieces that are waiting to be moved, like the opening for a play. It feels like we are watching all these smaller plots be developed for a much larger arc. If this weren't Doctor Who, I would have no doubt that this would be a show with 3 seasons that would end there because the structure seems so clear and obvious.
So I am definitely curious to see how this will turn out or if I am insane for this but this could not be 3 season arc any more clearer if it tried.
