Meanwhile, Ginny lies awake, unable to sleep, and like every night, her thoughts drift to Harry, wondering if he too is thinking of her. She misses him a little more tonight, so she pulls out his sweater from a hidden compartment in her trunk and slips it on. The familiar scent of him is the only thing that keeps her grounded, and she hopes he is somewhere safe.

Unpopular opinion #3 (since people seem to like these stuff)

I'm gonna get hate for this but

Hinny feels forced and out of nowhere to me.

They had the perfect set up for a cute romance. Best friend's younger sister whom he's used to take care of, but suddenly she grows, doesn't seek his attention anymore and he slowly gets to know her as her own person instead of his buddie's sister. He find himself drawn to her and feels guilty about it for the typical reasons, only to realize she feels the same way, always has, and boom, their feelings finally clash in a passionate kiss after months of sexual tension and years of mutual pining. Beautiful.

Or at least that's what could have been if we saw them interacting more after the Chamber of Secrets thing, but we don't. Ginny practically dissapears after that, we only know of her through others' pov, and when she finally becomes relevant in harry's radar is when she's dating other boys and shows her skills in the quidditch field. Then suddenly, he notices how beautiful and funny she is, even though they're from the same house and they've surely seen each other often, either at the Burrow or around the common room.

They don't have a proper built-up, or any relevant interactions that hints at harry's interest in her, at least not enough to showcase the epic endgame couple they're supposed to be. It feels to me like the recurring trope that when a girl is in love with the protagonist long enough, she's bound to end up with him. Or the when someone is in love with you for so long, you must give them a chance.

I think one of the reasons it pisses me off so much is ginny's wasted potential. Because we could have had an amazing and compelling story about personal growth with a girl that, sick of being in her brothers' shadow and overlooked, finds the courage to forge her own path and make people recognize her for who she is, not as another Weasley. A story where, instead of fooling around to "make time" until her crush to notices her, she moves on from him and starts to date boys because she actually likes them and enjoys dating.

But no. Instead, all that development from her part is reduced to "hermione told me you might like me if i acted more like myself" "she told me to date other boys" bla bla bla

In conclussion:

Hinny had great potential as a love story, but it was done poorly

(REMINDER: This is just my opinion, and by no means i intend to force it unto other people or offend anyone. if you like hinny as a couple, good for you. I won't attack you because of it)

Prompt: The best of your OTP

I think it's pretty obvious my Harry Potter OTP is Hinny. Five of my favourite Hinny fics are:

Bewitched by @starlingflight When Luna suggests, after Ginny suffers through the latest in a long line of comically bad dates, that the solution to all of her problems lies in brewing a love potion, she thinks it's all a big joke. Obviously, magic isn't real. Luna's potion recipe is nothing more than a novelty, sold to tourists enamoured with the legends surrounding their historical hometown of Godric's Hollow. Of course, Ginny really should've learned by now that her plans have a tendency to go awry. So it really shouldn't come as that much of a surprise to her when, the very next day, half the town seems to find her utterly...bewitching The only person who appears to be immune to the enchantment she's accidentally cast, is the one person who she wishes saw her as something more than his best friend's little sister; typically, even the miracle of actual magic can't capture Harry Potter's interest, and now he's the only person who can help her fix this latest mess she's created...

A beautiful Not-Quite-Muggle AU where Harry and Ginny are both so in character, and their romance is so sweet. I love how all the events happen on the same day over the years and how incredibly it shows the progression of their relationship.

Orchards by @whinlatter The orchard is a wild, thousand-flower, crumpled-gate, fall-down-fence sort of place, where things grow that you never asked for, that you’d never expect. The summer of ’96, the story of something flowery he thought he might have smelled at the Burrow. Canon-compliant, oneshot, summer between OotP and HBP. Non-linear narrative, flashbacks/flash-forwards to DH. Harry/Ginny.

Her post-war fic Beasts is also amazing. The way she describes Ginny's reticence and trauma, and Harry's openness and trauma is great. Her Hermione and Golden Trio are incredible. The description of post war justice and how it's not easy is so well done too.

Coffeehouse AU by @annerbhp Wherein Harry never could help himself from trying to save the day, and Ginny was just trying to survive her shift without killing any of her customers.

All their fics are amazing, but this one is my particular favourite.

mischiefmanaged!verse by irnan Post!dh headcanon, epilogue-compliant; a continuation of irnan's fascination with the question of what-came-after-the-happy-ending. Not in chronological order; but hopefully, doesn't need to be.

Their works are so freaking gorgeous. The descriptions and more importantly the relationships, between the Potter siblings, the Golden Trio and obviously Hinny are AMAZING.

It's four years after the war and Harry and Ginny are partners. In a strictly professional sense. Two aurors on a mission to crack a case that's already left a trail of bodies in its wake.

It's four years after the war and Harry and Ginny are married. Happy. Excelling in their fields as Harry tracks down the last of the Death Eaters and Ginny attempts to make the England team ahead of the World Cup.

When they fall asleep in one reality, they wake up in the other, but are they living in a nightmare or a dream too good to be true? And can they figure out which is which before its too late?

Why I'm Reccing It: Cut me, and I bleed Hinny. Thats just a fact. But picking the best of my OTP was another really tough category for me, because the Hinny nation may be small, but it is mighty. We're blessed with an amazing bunch of writers producing incredibly high quality work; how on earth was I going to pick the best of the best from such an embarrassment of riches?

I'm so glad you asked!

I adore all of Starling's work. She really, really gets both Harry and Ginny, their characters, their relationship, the way they talk to one another (or not...) - everything. I was already a fan of her writing before she came back from a hiatus with this absolute gem of a fic, and it's through chatting in the comments and asks on Tumblr that I got to know her.

Not only is she a fantastic writer, she's unfailingly lovely (no matter what life has thrown at her), a super-helpful beta-reader for my next long-fic and just an all round fabulous person. It's indicative of how lovely our little corner of the fandom is that she's just one of the wonderful people within it that make me so glad I came back to writing last year.
