“There is a visitor,” Richard informed her. “A certain Mr Dursley.”

Her eyes widened and she immediately set down the papers. She stood up from the chair. “Thank you, Richard.”

“I left him in the parlour. Mr Potter said he would join as soon as the clerk had left,” he continued.

“Can you—?”

“Mr Potter already called for tea and biscuits,” Richard said with a smile.

“Very well.” She walked out and braced herself. She could wait for Harry to be finished but she thought leaving a visitor waiting was impolite.

She walked into the room but to her surprise, she did not find Vernon. Instead, she found—

“Dudley Dursley,” he introduced himself. He had a pig-like expression; it was a bit vacant.  “You must be the farm girl.”

Ginny immediately knew this wasn’t going to be a pleasant conversation. She fixed her eyes on him. “Mrs Potter.”

First up, though, someone who is not a hidden gem. She’s here every gd day making life more of a delight for me, and her fic Rose lives in my head rent free (also her micro fic, Match, makes me unreasonably emotional even after several readings), but I simply don’t believe she gets enough love because she deserves all of it.

The Discreet Gentleman's Connection by pluto (gayrights420) [Drarry, E, 80.4k] 🌼🔥 I had the absolute pleasure of beta-ing for this fic, so when I say it is amazing, it truly is just that. Fast burn on the smut via Floo sex, slow burn on the in-person falling in love. Satisfying in all the best possible ways.

2. A fic that made me laugh

AITA for being "obsessed" with my childhood nemesis? by @rainstormradish [Drarry, M, 4.3k] 🌼📲 Draco on a reddit forum is hilarious just on its own, but the banter and formatting really bring this fic to life. Amazingly creative, had me in stitches!

3. A comfort fic

The Eighth Tale by @letteredlettered [Drarry, E, 12.0k] 💔⏳ An oldie but a goodie. I constantly find myself coming back to this fic and having my mind blown every single time. Time travel timey-wimey angst.

Sea of White by @dividawrites [Harrymort, E, 8.6k] 🔥🤍 Deliciously hot, creepy, and strangely sweet. Love their dynamic here, the unrestrained lust. Harrymort "die" and lose their memories, so, of course, then they bang.

8. A fic that made me cry

Far Apart, Far Away by @unmistakablyoatmeal [Hinny, minor Drarry, T, 1.6k] 💔💍 Infidelity angst has never been this good. I love the layers of emotion in this fic. Quick punchy sections that really pulled me in.

9. A Muggle(?) AU fic

Pleasant Hope by @ac1d6urn, @sinick [Snarry, E, 41.6k] 💔⛪️ Pastor Severus!! The angst, pining, and self-discovery in this fic is superb! I love the interwoven magic and detailed world-building of this little town.

11. A pre-canon fic

Careless by @tax-onomic [Luther, E, 1.5k] 🔥🪞 Lucius/Arthur my beloved rare pair!! I am captain of the Luther ship, and Tax's fic hits all the right spots. The pining, the sniping, the prickly personalities with emotional vulnerability underneath! And all in the middle of a hot smut scene. Perfect.

12. A canon-compliant fic

Scottish by thepadfoots [Chedric, G, 749] 💔🌟 Lovely Cho character study focused around her Asian identity and the boy she loved.

13. A fic rated G (more like T though)

Lion-Hearted Girl by MinnieQuill (odainath) [Minmione, G, 4.5k] 💔🦁 I know the large age gap might scare some, but their relationship feels very organic in this fic. The setting is grim, but there is always hope in the darkness!

14. A fic rated T

You're So Vane by @patriceavril [Romelina, T, 6.8k] 🌼💄Romilda is so delightfully characterized, I was smiling through the entire fic. Angelina is the perfect foil (and love interest) to Romilda's attentions.

15. A rare pair fic (less than 2000 fics on AO3)

Snakeskin by @cntrl15 [Bellastoria, E, 3.7k] 🔥👠 Talk about a rare pair! Astoria/Bellatrix only has 2 tagged fics on AO3: this fic and the drabble I wrote based on it. But read this fic, and you'll see why I felt the need to write more in this universe.

Master of None by @nanneramma [Snormac, G, 5.5k] 🌼🧘 Severus is so wonderfully cranky, and Cormac is fine AF. The surprise pairing of 2023 that I never knew I needed and now I'm obsessed with!

17. An under-rated fic

Sun, Shadow, Shade by @naomijameston [Snuna, G, 700] 🌼☀️ Post-war fluff. Sunshine Luna is the perfect match for sullen Snape. A short and sweet fic for this underrated ship.

18. A canon-divergent fic

but somebody's gotta do it by nocturn [Pangulus, T, 920] 😄🧟‍♂️ This fic will make you say WTF but also huh, okay that totally works. The concept is WILD but Lyra executes it wonderfully. Pansy drags Regulus out of the inferi lake and they flirt a little while he gets de-corpsified lol.

In his embrace by @loneamaryllis [Snarrymort, het!Snarry, E, 48k] ⚡️👀 Dark and dirty but so so good. A Voldemort Wins AU where fem!Harry is taken as prisoner. Snape's mindset as he tries to save her (and is forced to rape her) is so twisted and mesmerizing. Mind the tags!

20. A thought-provoking fic

Icarus by @thistlecatfics [Millvansy, M, 20.0k] 💔🍾 War trauma, addiction, codependency! This fic is messy with emotions but has a strong, beating heart underneath. I am in love with Parvati as she deals with Pansy's addiction and Millicent's denial — three beautiful, imperfect girls.

21. A holiday fic

A Time, Dark and Divine by @moonflower-rose [Dronarry, E, 17.0k] 🔥⛱ HOLY FREAKING FUCK!! The sexual tension in this fic is off the freaking charts. Drarry seducing Ron while on vacation in Portugal. Sign me the fuck up!

James works in the Potter Pointe Shop together with his father. Every pointe shoe is an ode to his late mother and ballet dancer Euphemia. When the talented ballet dancer Lily walks in to pick up her shoes, James quickly realises he is completely and utterly lost for her. His father's encouragement only stresses him out more. Someone messes with her pointe shoes during the day of her dress rehearsal and James takes it upon himself do to an emergency delivery.

Chapter 1

The doorbell to the shop rang and a young woman walked in. She had long dark red hair and her cheeks and nose were red from the biting cold outside. She exhaled in relief when she stepped into the warmth of the shop.

James stood by the till and watched her. He momentarily forgot their usual greeting his father insisted on. “Hi.”

She smiled in greeting, loosening her scarf a little. “Good morning.”

“Good morning,” he said, his brain finally kicking back into motion. “Welcome to the Potter Pointe Shop.”

She walked up to the counter. “Thank you.” Her head tilted to the side when he did not say anything. “I am here to pick up an order.”

Hear me out:

Sirius travels to the future and goes to Hogwarts, he sees Remus as a professor and flirts with him and that kind of shit. It’s an au where Sirius in that timeline hasn’t escaped from Azkaban. He questions shit and Remus eventually tells him that he killed Lily, James and Peter and that he’s now in Azkaban and he can’t accept it, he has a mental breakdown. He finds out about what happened to the others like Marlene, Dorcas, Evan, Barty, Mary, Pandora etc. And he sees Luna yk and thinks about Pandora and he’s like “wait I thought Pandora was with Lily?”

then together they figure out what really happened cuz they see Peter on the marauders map. And they deal with him.

Then Sirius sees Harry and goes: “holy shit he looks just like James!! Am I an uncle?” And when Harry gets a little closer, he goes: “wait- his eyes? Why does he have blue eyes?” And Remus has to explain to him that Regulus joined the death eaters and died when he was 17 and that Harry’s mother is Lily and Sirius goes through another mental breakdown. And after he’s calmed down, he’s like: “so I’m not his uncle?” And Remus is like: “you’re the godfather.” And Sirius cheers up a little.

And when he sees that Harry is in love with Draco he is like: why do the potters have smth for the snarky, sad, depressed, Slytherin seekers who’s mean to them. And ppl from the black family. (I count Draco as a black cuz Narcissa is a black so yeah) (Regulus and Draco both getting the dark mark cuz they were forced😭😭😭)

and when Harry gets a tiny crush on ginny sirius goes like: HIS BEST MATES SIBLING?! OH LOOK HOW FUNNY SHES A GINGER TOO! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!? See moony I told you it’s in his genes. (You can decide yourself if it’s endgame hinny or Drarry)

And he sees the Weasley twins and he’s like: “they’re my new idols!!” And Remus is like: “We’re their idols actually”

And he sees himself and James in Ron and Harry.

And after a few months when Sirius has caught up with everything, he flirts with Remus and is like: “you know moony I’m horny” and Remus is like: “well I can’t do anything about it, that would be pedophilia” and Sirius is like disappointed. But they eventually have sex (help😭Sirius is like 15 or 16 btw) and Sirius is like: “yOuR cOcK hAs GrOwN”. They take every chance they get to make out. And Remus is like: “oh how much I’ve missed this, missed you”

(They’re at Hogwarts btw) (it’s up to you if he pretends like he’s a student or if he’s hiding in Remus’ room) (but some professors would know if Sirius pretended like he was a student) (maybe he goes in disguise with polyjuice potion or smth?)

(He meets Harry if he’s just hiding and tells him everything but if you decide him to disguise as a student then he just watches from afar and doesn’t talk to him often.)

Remus asks him if this counts as cheating on his past self. And Sirius is like: “no you’re still you, so cheating on you with you is impossible”

Mcgonagall finds out about Sirius but doesn’t tell anyone.

Oh and it takes place during PoA and GoF. But the events just don’t happen, it’s like a normal Hogwarts year. So yeah no voldy coming back. Or no Sirius escaping Azkaban.

You can decide if Remus stays at Hogwarts during GoF or not, like the events didn’t happen so he doesn’t have to leave. But it’s up to you if he leaves and lives with Sirius in his house during GoF. But they’re definitely at Hogwarts during PoA.

and a bit to the end of GoF they figure out a way to send Sirius back to the 70s. Sirius says goodbye to everyone and leaves (Remus is like FUCKING sad cuz he has no one left) and as soon as Sirius is back he begs his brother to run away with him so that that terrible things don’t happen and he talks to James and Remus about Peter, and they do smth to fix that.

It started as a joke after one of their clinics the hockey league put on. A silly pass time Harry and the Weasley boys signed up for to keep them on the ice during the off-season, to keep their skills in top form. The fact that the three Weasley brothers could monitor their baby sister at her own figure skating lessons was the only reason Mr. and Mrs. Weasley had been able to be convinced to sign three more children up for the very expensive lessons.

The four of them were late to the game, fourteen and sixteen year olds figure skating for the first time with a bunch of boys who had been there since they were three and four years old; and nothing was more hilarious to the experienced boys than the four hockey boys falling on their faces every time they forgot about the toe picks. All the Weasley boys could talk about after each practice was how quick they were going to be zipping around in the ice next season but all Harry could think was how he felt like he was flying. Jumps and twists and spins got his adrenaline pumping more than chasing after a puck ever did. The first time Harry saw a pairs team practicing as their group laced up their skates, the male partner threw the girl five feet over his head while she performed a twist and Harry just knew the thrill of catching a partner after a throw like that had to be the best.

So when hockey season started back up, the Weasley boys promptly dropped the figure skating lessons but Harry kept on. And sure, he was on the receiving end of some razzing from his old hockey teammates; but every single one of them shut the hell up once they saw Harry skating with one hand firmly on a girl’s arsecheek as he held her overhead without even breaking a sweat.

He put his heart and soul into it, even found himself a private coach and started searching for the perfect partner. It was awkward trying to find a partner while he was in the middle of his growth spurts, but eventually he and Cho paired up and even managed to win silver at nationals until Cho’s own growth spurt made their height difference too close and he couldn’t lift her safely anymore, much less throw her. Only four years of figure skating, and Harry was already out of the game unless he could find another partner.

So he set his sights on Ginny.

She was tiny. She was an amazing skater of course. Her spins were so tight and fast, she was essentially a blur of copper. God, the lifts and throws they could nail if she would just start competing pairs. But no, she was dead set on competing individually.

Every time Harry saw her, he’d needle her about switching to pairs. Every early morning practice. Every public skate hour. Every time they sat in the stands to cheer on her brothers’ hockey team. Every dinner at the Weasley’s worn table.

“When are you gonna finally come skate pairs with me, Gin?”

“Every night in your dreams, Potter.”

Hinny 💍 - The One With No Voldy and Where Everyone Lives

AU, where Harry happens to hear a conversation between his grandfather, Fleamont Potter, and his father, James. Fleamont, who has been looking weaker by the day, tells his son he knows his and Euphemia's time is coming to an end, and his only regret is not being able to witness Harry grow up and get married. This bothers Harry, and while on a playdate at the Burrow, he confides in Ginny, who responds as if it were the most obvious solution: "Then let's get married."

They persuade their families to arrange a gathering, and they con the Weasley brothers into decorating the backyard. Ron stands by Harry's side as his best man, while Luna is Ginny's bridesmaid. All it took was one look from Harry and Ginny to convince Sirius to turn into Padfoot to be their ring bearer/flower girl; his outfit consisted of a bowtie and a tutu (James, Remus, Gideon, and Fabian nearly fell off their chairs laughing so hard).

They made each other's wedding rings. Harry's ring was made from the metal from his grandma's old Auror badge (which Euphemia gave to her willingly) and the very first snitch he caught for the first time and gifted to her. Ginny convinced Fabian and Gideon to transform into a ring. Ginny's ring was made of her favorite green bubble gum (that was suspiciously similar to Harry's eye color) and twigs of their broomsticks as the band, which Harry convinced his dad and Sirius to smooth out and place an unbreakable charm on with an auto-replenishing charm on the bubble gum.

They both dressed themselves for the occasion, and Harry asked his mom and godmother Marlene to help him pick flowers for Ginny's bouquet. He smelled each one and was very picky persistent it had to smell like Ginny's hair. It took Harry HOURS until he was finally satisfied with the arrangement. Molly volunteered to make their wedding cake, and a few days before the wedding, Ginny told her dad in a very grown-up tone to wear a bowtie because he was walking her down the aisle on Sunday. Hinny asked Hagrid to marry them, and when it was time to kiss the bride, Harry was just about to protest/lecture Hagrid about how he should have asked Ginny for her consent instead of giving him permission "to kiss the bride" (the boy was Lily Potter's son and a true feminist at heart), when Ginny pulled Harry down and gave Harry a big kiss on the lips. The kid was frozen for a solid minute and then couldn't stop smiling as he followed his 'wife' around all day.

They made Fleamont and Euphemia's wishes come true.

Then, 16 years later, they got married again.

Honestly, I'm obsessed with "What If" Romione Kisses too lol. I love everything about it—how easy it is to write, charting their evolution from cutie patooties to....well, you'll see 😏, that the chaps are short and do no more than what they're supposed to (i.e. provide a snapshot of quintessential Romione for a given year), how sharing every chapter feels like a celebration with you and the other readers. Aaaaand on that note, Year 4 is linked below 🤩

I'm also excited about my other published WIPs, Mine and Let's Go, but very challenged by them atm 😞 The rest of Mine is focused on Hinny; while I'm itching to share that story, I'm not nearly as practiced at writing Hinny as I am writing Romione. And with Let's Go, there's a lot I want to explore regarding feminism, race, and class in early 2000s Britain but I don't have the energy for that research right now. They'll both get done, just have nooo idea when lol.

As for other things in the works (I love this question sm), I have a Yule Ball AU one-shot featuring transmasc Ron for @hptransfest and I'M SO FREAKING EXCITED!! (Posting begins in June.)

I am also working on an unhinged, canon-compliant-but-stretching-it series exploring Romione from first year to their wedding. The first two stories I'll be sharing in this series are Inseparable and Secrets.

Inseparable is a multi-chap focusing on Romione's separations and reunions in years 3, 6, and 7 from a twin flames perspective. I plan to start posting sometime this month once Romione Kisses is over!

Secrets is a Romione wedding one-shot that was inspired by @romione-trope-fest (but didn't end up making the cut because it's wayyyy too intense for Trope Fest LMAO). My plan is to publish when Inseparable is done (hopefully in August).

harry potter/ginny weasley teen | 80k words

why i recommend it:

i am - obviously - on the record as not a hinny girly, but whinlatter is one of the few people able to convince me of the pairing. this is because she’s a beautiful writer, but it’s mainly - and i think this is incredibly important - because she writes the stars of the show as actually funny. there seems to be a real tendency in "how is the world rebuilt after the war?" fics to make everything unstoppably angsty, with lots of therapy-speak processing of trauma. and that never hits for me, largely because it’s not something i can picture harry "what’s a coping mechanism?" potter and friends being willing to do.

beasts instead gets the vibe completely right - teenagers without all the answers muddling through as best as they can, which always seems to result in them choosing the stupidest [and funniest] option. harry is both self-isolating and self-righteous, hermione is brittle and very loyal, ron is the only one with any emotional stability, mcgonagall has had enough, and ginny is - to quote the author herself - written like scrappy do.

which isn’t to say that this fic isn’t angsty - it is, at heart, an exploration both of how ginny deals with being back at hogwarts in 1998-99 when the castle is filled with memories she’d rather not have to think about every day, and of how the end of voldemort doesn’t magically mean an end to the astonishing corruption in wizarding society. 

it also has an acceptable amount of hits if you control + f "riddle". so there’s that.

this is cheating, because it’s not a specific fic, but @broomsticks [who you will know as leftsidedown on ao3] inspires me a great deal. she is absolutely committed to multi-shipping [and especially to femslash multishipping] in a way which is really quite rare now, as well as to exploring the full spectrum - from fluff to filth to filthy fluff - we can write our characters into. plus, she’s a fandom history encyclopedia, and one of the few people on earth apparently willing to do statistical analysis of harry potter fanfiction for fun. she also gives great prompts, which have led to two of my favourite pieces of my own work: enchanter’s nightshade and the three sisters.
