It'll never stop being funny to me how Indra's status and power level changes throughout the different texts because initially, you have this absolute badass God-King who defeats a giant monster and gets together with his wife and holds court in heaven. Next the Ramayana rolls up and he is set as a benchmark for battle-skill: Meghnad, as the warrior who defeated him, is an absolute powerhouse who nearly kills both Rama and Lakshmana (and one of those two is a god). In fact, depending on the version, Rama and Lakshmana only survive by semi-divine intervention (Garuda and Hanumana). It is a story about how Lakshmana, an exiled third prince, kills the man who defeated the King of Gods, thereby proving the victory of good over evil et cetera... et cetera... You know the drill.
And then, you have the Mahabharata. Where Krishna, then a young boy, protects an entire settlement from Indra's rage. Which... you know what, fine, he too is a god.
But then, Arjuna defeats Indra, who is his father. Arjuna, who presumably upset the audience a few moments ago after he just burned a whole forest with everyone (including children) in it to supposedly satisfy Agni.
Then, Indra shows up to Karna's doorstep begging for his armour, and Karna who had previously angered the audience by calling Draupadi a harlot gets to demand things from the king of the gods.
See the pattern?
Also they have that absolute disaster of a ceremony and their city is called Indraprashtha.
Like come on, at this point you're just using Indra as the bonus +500 point in games to get your favourites in the audience's good books after they messed up.
#istg the first time i learnt arjuna fought shiva#i was like pls pls pls he can't be winning#i love love love mahabharat characters but you can tell the original text has been embellished by fans#because some of them are ridiculously overpowered#there is also this theory that arjuna nakul and sahadev were later additions to the story#so arjuna might just be someone's oc who made it into canon#indra#shiva#arjuna#karna#indrajit#meghnad#ram#rama#lakshmana#krishna#ramayana#mahabharat#ramayan#mahabharata#hindu mythology#hindublr#boo blabs

Your bio says proud Indian but then why only hindu lives matter?? There are so many other religions living in India as well. You seriously should be in school right now instead of being toxic on tumblr.
Reading comprehension fails people yet again. Sad.
I am a proud Indian, yes. My bio says ॐ and proud. That being said, this blog is exclusively to discuss Hinduphobia and violence against Hindus. Does that make you uncomfortable?
Why do you have such a big issue if I take a space and make it solely to discuss issues affecting Hindus? Why are you coming to MY blog and getting upset that I'm only talking about Hindus? If it's affecting you that much, start your own blog, by all means. Record the violence against all communities in India, you have my full support. Go on, do it.
Also, I'm so offended that you think I can't do both, being in school and toxic on Tumblr. I'm a very capable woman, I can multitask <3
You keep crying, I'll keep being toxic on Tumblr. Mwah.
#hinduphobia#anon asks#answered#hate mail#love love love that you took out the time to be such an ass lmao#“there are so many religions in india” great! then you can talk about the violence perpetuated against them on your blog!#no? you just want me to do it?#oh#too fucking bad <3#because my blog is solely for recording hinduphobia and hindu content

रे दानवीर—
कस्य धर्मम् अनुसरति?
भवान् कार्यं कस्य कृते करोति?
भवत: कर्तव्यं किम्? कर्तव्यं कस्य कृते?
O, generous one Whose path of life do you follow? For whom do you do your work? What is your duty? Who is your duty for?
(Alternate shots and thought process/explanation under the cut!)
(Click for better quality – Tumblr kills it </3) Free to use/save with credit and/or a reblog!
OKAY. YAP TIME. This is a Hindu mythology/Mahabharata AU, and this art specifically is of Wolfwood as Karna. I'll explain who Karna is first + give context about his role in the Mahabharata, and then explain the symbolism and everything.
Who is Karna and what is his role in the story?
Karna was the illegitimate son of Kunti and Surya, the sun god. Due to being unmarried and young at the time, Kunti put Karna in a basket of sorts and allowed the river to carry him away where he was later found by his adoptive mother and father.
Thanks to his divine heritage, Karna was born with a kavach and kundal— a chest plate and earrings. These were immensely strong, even to the point of being unaffected by celestial weapons, and, most importantly, they were inherent to his being. I mean that very literally: the chest plate and earrings were literally parts of him. Taking them off would leave him bloodied and vulnerable (cough cough).
Eventually, through his prowess with archery, he made his way to the Kaurava palace–the Kauravas being the corrupted, power-hungry side of the conflict (oversimplification, but the Mahabharata is way too long for me to summarize here)–and became fast friends with Duryodhana, the leader of the 101 Kaurava cousins. Now, the issue with that is that his half-brothers, the Pandavas, were technically the rightful heirs to the kingdom, Hastinapura. This is where Karna's conflict begins: who does he have a responsibility towards? The family that housed and loved and fed him, despite the wrongdoings they were committing, or the family that was his birthright?
In the Mahabharata, Karna chooses the family who raised him, hurt by the fact that his mother gave him up. While this seems like a perfectly logical decision, the fact is that the Kauravas were cruel and deceitful— adharmi, or straying from the path of righteousness. In enabling and aiding them, when he had a responsibility to his blood family AND to keep the Kauravas from committing evils, Karna damned himself.
That isn't to say that he was a horrible person, however— he was notoriously humble and generous (which is the epithet that I used in the title!), incredibly dedicated to his cause and his family, and burdened with the knowledge that his birth mother gave him up. Karna is a morally grey character: put into his shoes, we, too, would struggle with choosing a side.
Leading up to Karna's death, during the war, Lord Indra, disguised as a brahmin, asked for his kavach and kundal. Karna gave them away without hesitation, leaving himself bloodied and vulnerable. This tremendous, selfless display of generosity is the main sticking point for so many people; how can a person so devoted and so generous be wholly evil?
I'm sure that idea rings true for many of you, since it's a point of contrition in Trigun, too. This leads me to the next part:
Why is Wolfwood Karna? What does this imply?
If you're familiar with Karna or you read my explanation up there, I'm sure you can see the connections now. Both Wolfwood and Karna struggle with choice— who do they have a duty towards? Karna has to choose between the two sides of his family and, symbolically, between right and wrong. Wolfwood has to choose between his obligation to Hopeland Orphanage (and, by extension, Knives as his contractor) and the obligation he brought upon himself in regards to Vash's ideals/quest. The conflict is near analogous: he's stuck between the people who raised and loved him, and the people who are working for a better future.
Another important thing to consider is Karna's generosity and how he, quite literally, gave someone the skin off his back. Wolfwood, too, is unerringly generous— he posits himself as selfish and mean, but he gave up everything for the people he cared about: his adolescence, his morals, his basic nature, his life. They are both so, so generous, and it leads to their downfalls.
Finally, the most important thing to remember is that neither Karna not Wolfwood are inherently good or bad. They're humans making very human choices. They're both selfish, yes, but they're also generous and kind and caring. In the end, Karna recognizes his mistakes and regrets what he's done, and Wolfwood, similarly, is forced to make peace with what he did and how his life has come to an end.
Artistic choices!
Wolfwood's arm bands and bracelets are gold and mimic both the Eye of Michael's insignia as well as the sun(s), which is a nod to Karna.
He's shown holding his kavach instead of wearing it to symbolize both his dedication and generosity (again, a nod to the original story), as well as to serve as his cause of death. He's forsaken his protection for what he believes in and wants to protect. In my original planning, the kavach and kundal were actually way more analogous to the EoM juice lol.
I replaced the Punisher with a crossbow because a giant cross-shaped gun would, unfortunately, be even more idiosyncratic than a crossbow (apparently ancient mainland India didn't have crossbows! Assam did; however, the Kurukshetra War happened in Haryana so boo hoo). Despite that, I tried to keep the coloring similar to the Punisher from Trigun (1998) as well as including a skull motif under the bow.
The pose is referenced from Wolfwood shooting up at the rubble during Badlands Rumble! I just modified it for the drama lol.
Wolfwood is pointing the crossbow at the sun for a purely Wolfwood reason (meaning it is NOT a reference to the Mahabharata). Despite his best efforts, he ended up backstabbing both of the twins in one way or another; you can imagine the sun as either brother, but I'd probably imagine it as Knives, since he "remade" Wolfwood, so he'd step into the role of Surya (Karna's father).
#trigun#trigun art#nicholas d. wolfwood#nicholas the punisher#my art#blood tw#mahabharata au/hindu mythology au#trigun au#this isnt a specific ww btw you can imagine him as whichever one you want#trigun maximum#trigun 98#trigun stampede#im soooo proud of bullshitting the anatomy so well. guys hmu if you wanna see the musculature sketches#also the text in Devanagari is sanskrit!! putting my 5+ years of sanskrit to good use frfr#anyway dont imagine Miss Melanie as Kunti. your heart WILL break#I also couldnt decide which epithet to go with for the longest time LMAO

Abhimanyu had ruined things.
Again.
Just like every single day.
WHY WAS HE LIKE THIS?
This was a question which he and many people around him asked frequently. This time, his victim was a beautiful angavastra, which was very dear to Balarama Mama for some unknown reasons. Abhimanyu was practicing archery, as usual. And his target had been the angavastra, unfortunately.
Now, Balarama was screeching at the top of his lungs. Like a brave boy, Abhimanyu ran to hide in some secluded corner of the palace. Perhaps there was still some time left for him to run away. Maybe he could join his father in his exile-
"This is extremely delicious." A very familiar voice speaks from behind him. "Honestly, this reminds me of the time I was a young boy."
And as Abhimanyu had expected, Krishna Mama is miraculously sitting right next to him, his hand stuffed inside a pot of maakhan, with some of it smeared on his face.
"Mama!" He cries out in relief. "You are the only one who can save me now!"
"Oh?" Krishna says, in surprise. "Is that so?"
Abhimanyu resists the strong urge to scoff. As if he doesn't know what has happened. At that exact moment, Balaram roars in anger upstairs.
"I ruined his clothes." Abhimanyu decides to explain. "Please save me just this once."
"Ah, my dear nephew." Krishna slaps his maakhan coated palm on Abhimanyu's back. "I will always save you, except for that one time- Ahem. So, where were we?"
"You were saying something about saving me from the mess I have created." Abhimanyu says, even if Krishna hasn't voiced it out yet. He doesn't need to, Abhimanyu understands it without him even saying it.
"Now, Dau has always been like this since we were children. It is normal." Krishna explains. "Open your mouth."
Abhimanyu does so, only to find Krishna feeding him maakhan. Krishna is notorious for not sharing his maakhan with anyone. It makes him feel very special, indeed.
"Run ahead, I know how to convince him!" Krishna urges, and Abhimanyu runs to the women's palace.
Just like always, Krishna Mama has saved him. And he will continue to do it, right?
...
As his bow was chopped into pieces, his charioteer and horses were killed, as his sword fell from his hands and the chariot wheel was destroyed, as Abhimanyu picked up the mace and fell down, in a faint, as his skull was smashed, he realized that this time, just this once, Krishna Mama wouldn't come to save him.
#mahabharata#mahabharat#abhimanyu#hindu mythology#krishna#I am sorry-#boy this took a sharp turn#i think i will be writing on these two for a long time#they are one of my fav duos#like plz#Krishna did love his nephew#stop pretending otherwise#my love for these two trascends realms#abhimanyu x uttaraa#uttaraa

Ideas for albums the Mechs could have done alongside their already existing ones
01. Cyberpunk retelling of events from "The Shahnameh" wherein King Jamshid and his Chief Engineer Mirdas create a powerful super-computer called the Zahhak to help them run their city...only for it to go crazy with power and absorb all the minds of the people into itself using a virus a la The Acheron before being defeated by the heroic hackers Kaveh and Fereydun (who are probably boyfriends in The Mechanisms Universe, because why not).
02. Film Noir retelling of the Hero Twins wherein they are detectives trying to bring down the Brotherhood of Xibalba crime syndicate society that runs their city.
03. Dickens crossover universe involving Fagin and the DeFarges as rival space pirates, Cartmanay and Twistperpip as polycules, Paul Dombey running a spaceship firm, the Dorrits having to escape from a prison planet, and Miss Havisham as a cyborg with Estella as her adopted daughter/repairwoman.
04. Steampunk crossover AU of all the Bronte works featuring Jane Eyre crushing on Helen Graham and queer tension between either Heathcliff and Rochester or between Heathcliff and Arthur Huntingdon or between Rochester and Arthur Huntingdon.
05. Retelling of a classic Shakespeare play, preferably one that hasn't already been adapted a billion times already.
06. Retelling of "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" as a space opera about a war between different planets seeking to rule over the same solar system.
07. "Journey to the West" but it's about explorers on an unknown planet.
08. Polynesiian mythology retelling wherein Maui is a biio-engineer who keeps creating whole new planets and ecosystems by accident.
09. Space opera retelling of either "The Ramayana" or "The Mahabharata".
10. Russian mythology retelling about Marya Morevna and IIvan Tsarevic facing down a Koschei the Deathless who's actually a clone of King Cole alongside one of the Bogatyrs who in this retelling is in fact a former Rose Red.
11. Retelling of "Dream of the Red Chamber" wherein the house is a virtual reality computer simulation.
12. Steampunk retelling of "Les Miserables" featuring Javert as a cyborg.
13. Retelling of "War and Peace" with a Rose Red as Napoleon and Pierre trying to shoot down King Cole.
14. Sherlock Holmes but make it Film Noir.
15. Dracula or something Dracula related.
16. Snow Queen retelling.
