Day 3, Haikus
Woe is my heart’s name
As it waits for Chizuru
To bring me my tea
Pink and white petals
Dance around my windy sky

HijiChi Week 2018: A Prisoner’s Promise
Note: For @hijichiweek: an AU heavily inspired by the song “Over the Hills and Far Away” by Gary Moore Day 1 Prompts: Sun and Moon
There was no moon the night they took her lover away, framed for a crime he didn’t commit. The darkness mirrored the bleakness in her heart, the cloud-covered starless sky a seemingly ill omen of things to come.
Chizuru dressed in boys’ clothing, tucking her hair up under a cap that she pulled down low to obscure her face. She was thankful her husband was still away, for he slept lightly, and sneaking out would have been impossible.
She wove through the cold, shadowy streets, making her way to the jail swiftly. There, the jailer—an unkempt man with blackened teeth to match his rotten soul—peered at her suspiciously.
“What’d’ya want, kid? Bit late for ya to be out, dontcha think?”
“I’m here to see one of the prisoners.” She pulled out a weighty coin purse, jingling the coins meaningfully.
Greed lit up the jailer’s eyes. “Which one?”
“Hijikata Toshizo, the man accused of robbery.”
He gave a coarse laugh that ended in a hacking cough. He spat a wad of phlegm to the side of the room before saying scornfully, “‘Accused’? Nay, lad, they found his gun at the scene. ’e’s guilty.”
She ignored the mocking gibe. “Well?” she asked, extending the coin purse toward him.
“All right, ya got ten minutes.”
Chizuru yanked the bag out of his reach. “Twenty, or no deal.”
He spat again, this time at her feet before accepting. Then he unlocked the door to the stairwell leading down to the cells, waving her through in front of him.
The stench hit her immediately: unwashed bodies, human waste, stale air. She choked back a gag, and tears. The thought of Toshi in a place like this…when he didn’t deserve to be. Stay strong, Chizuru.
In a cliché act straight out of a cheap novel, the jailer banged on the bars of Toshi’s cell. “’Ey! Got a kid here ta see you. Fifteen minutes, and I’ll be back.”
Chizuru whirled on him, eyes wide. “What? We agreed upon twenty!”
He shook the coin purse at her, snickering, and shrugged as he headed back up the stairs, leaving them alone. Or as alone as they could be, though the other prisoners paid them no mind.
She immediately stuck her hands through the bars, clasping his, biting her lip so she wouldn’t cry.
In the dim light, she could see her lover’s scowl. “What the hell are you doing here?”
“That’s my line!” Chizuru exclaimed. “Why don’t you tell them the truth? That you’re innocent?”
Toshi’s voice was strained when he answered. “Are you kidding me? Who knows what that blond bastard would do to you!”
He wasn’t wrong—her husband, Chikage, had a mean streak a mile wide. For all she knew, it had been him or one of his cronies who’d framed Hijikata.
“But…” She thought for a moment. “I’ll go with you, dress as a boy—”
“Absolutely not!” Toshi barked. “Are you out of your mind?”
In a way, she sort of was—out of her mind in her desperation to save him from such a cruel fate…and in her own grief at the prospect of losing him. “I hate this! It isn’t fair! Toshi…please,” she begged, raw agony making her voice husky. “Please just tell them the truth.”
“No, Chizuru. I refuse to put you in harm’s way.”
She clenched her fists, hating his stubbornness, hating Chikage, hating fate for putting them in this position. But Toshi had made up his mind, and there was no changing it once he had.
“Fine. I will wait for you.”
“Ten years is a long time,” he said, his words tinged with doubt.
She shook her head emphatically. “I don’t care. I love you, and only you. Promise me you’ll return. Promise!”
Hijikata sighed harshly, running a hand down his face. Then, finally, he lifted his violet-eyed gaze to meet her brown one, the tiniest smile tugging at his lips. “I swear it.”
He grabbed her face in his hands, pulling her as close as possible, and kissed her through the cold iron bars.
The tears she’d been holding back spilled over then, streaming down her cheeks freely, the taste of the salt making the already bittersweet kisses more so.
They parted for much-needed air, and he used the cuff of his sleeve to dry her face. “Don’t cry, Chizuru.”
She laughed in spite of herself. “How can you ask that of me?” At his pleading look, she blew out a long breath. “I’ll try, all right?”
A door slamming open signaled their time had come to an end, and they stole one last kiss as the jailer bellowed “Time’s up!”
Toshi gripped her hand as she turned to leave. “I love you.”
Chizuru squeezed it tightly. “I love you too. Don’t you dare forget your promise!”
With that, she shoved the strands of hair that had come loose back under the cap and jerked it down over her face, giving her lover one last look before she headed up the stairs.
The next morning, Chizuru did not curse the dawning sun, despite what it meant for Toshi. Instead, as she watched sky brightening on the horizon, she steeled her resolve.
She had ten years. Ten years to prepare. To plan. To escape her husband’s clutches. She would succeed.
And when Toshi returned from the penal colony on Ezo, she would be waiting.
Author’s note: I’m not saying Chizuru would be unfaithful necessarily or advocating infidelity at all. It’s just how the song goes (though, technically, it should’ve been his best friend’s wife he was with…but…well…artistic license and all that).

HijiChi Week 2018 - Day 1
Hijikata gazed out upon the courtyard, leaning against the frame of the shoji with his arms crossed and buried deep within the wide sleeves of his hakamashita. The sky was grey—the color before the arrival of dawn—and birds chirped merrily from a tree nearby. Despite having only slept for an hour or two, Hijikata was far from irritable.
After finishing official letters, Hijikata allowed himself to pull out his notebook and indulge in haiku, but soon, he realized that his thoughts couldn’t be contained to the short poems. Instead, he had written what turned out to be a letter. One that would never be sent.
Movement from the corner of his eye caught his attention and Hijikata stood to his full height as he craned his neck in time to witness the subject of his lengthy letter crossing the dew-covered grass toward the kitchen.
A smile slowly spread across his lips. Chizuru walked with such ease and purpose for one so small and seemingly timid. Her face was free from worry, which flooded Hijikata with a sense of relief, for the circumstances that kept her here were enough to cause anyone consternation.
Hijikata’s thoughts wandered back to his letter, and his cheeks slightly colored. He recalled how he spent two pages marveling at her tenacity in the face of the danger the Shinsengumi were to her, both internally and externally. Even so, she faced every day with a smile that lit her entire face and never failed to induce a similar reaction from him.
Even when she was faced with something devastating, Chizuru’s eyes would only darken long enough to give the event its due before she pressed on. Hijikata wished she would share her secret, for he often spent far too much time brooding over things he couldn’t change.
He had never wanted to feel anything for her, but Chizuru’s steadfastness had made it easy for her to crawl her way into his affections. Hijikata would never admit that from the first moment he had stared down the length of his sword at her, he had known she was more than what she seemed. And it was this that had stayed his blade. He couldn’t make himself kill one who had such a thirst for life.
Chizuru disappeared into the kitchen, and Hijikata leaned back against the frame with a soft snort. Something told him it would only be a matter of time before his regard for her would be known.

HijiChi Week Day 3
Title: Haiku
Prompt: Haiku
Pairing: Hijikata Toshizou/Yukimura Chizuru
Background: Took place in the Hakuoki SSL Universe.
AN: English is not my first language. And I never make haiku. Sorry if the haiku is not good. And I hope that the haiku that I made is the right one. May you enjoy the story :D
Miyuu
@hijichiweek
Chizuru was staring at the blank paper on her desk while twirling the pencil in her fingers.
Her assignment for the summer holiday would be done after she finished this one last homework. She had done her best on making all the assignment and wanted to do her best to this last one also. The thing was, for the past two hours she had thought of what she should make for this one and stuck on that. She had written and then later erased her work for countless time that in the end she had to change the paper for the new one. It’s not that her homework was that difficult. She just had to make a haiku.
She let out an exasperated sigh.
Haiku?
Really?
Did people still make haikus these days? Japanese literature was not her forte, more so on the classic. So far, her grade was only an average on the subject. No matter if the one that taught the subject was him… or maybe because it was him that taught the subject that she wanted to do her best more than the other subject, even though clearly it wasn’t her game.
She banged her head on the table, grunting in the process.
Beep!
Chizuru reached her phone and saw a notification that said she had received a new email. She straightened her pose and unlocked her phone to see the new email.
From: Todou Heisuke ([email protected])
To: Yukimura Chizuru ([email protected])
Subject: Group Chat
Chizuru! Check the group chat now.
Chizuru closed the email and she logged in to the group chat that consisted of her classmates and some of her senpais.
---
Yukimura_Chizuru: Minna-san!
Toudou_Heisuke: Yo Chizuru!
Ibuki_Ryunosuke: Hei Yukimura!
Saitou_Hajime: Yukimura.
Yamazaki_Susumu: Yukimura.
Okita_Souji: Chizuru-chan.
Yukimura_Chizuru: What are you guys doing? I’m doing my last assignment now for the summer holiday :)
Toudou_Heisuke: Ugh! Must you remind me of that?
Yukimura_Chizuru: I guess you haven’t done yours then.
Okita_Souji: What do you expect from Heisuke?
Toudou_Heisuke: Shut up Souji. Like you are the one to talk… =_=
Ibuki_Ryunosuke: I can’t think or do anything right now… My stomach is grumbling and I’m so hungry T_T
Yukimura_Chizuru: 0o0 Poor you, @Ibuki_Ryunosuke Ibuki-kun.
Yamazaki_Susumu: You are ALWAYS hungry Ibuki… Don’t mind him, Yukimura.
Ibuki_Ryunosuke: @Yamazaki_Susumu You are so MEAN!
Saitou_Hajime: I’ve done my assignments since day one of the holiday.
Yukimura_Chizuru: As expected from Saitou-senpai! :D
Saitou_Hajime: 1kj32409u
Toudou_Heisuke: Hajime? What’s with the typo? o_0
Okita_Souji: Hajime-kun was blushing and his phone almost slipped from his fingers, made him typed carelessly on the phone’s keyboard when he tried to catch it.
Toudou_Heisuke: Are you with Hajime right now Souji?
Okita_Souji: Nope. Just guessing what happened with him but I’m totally sure that’s what happened.
Toudou_Heisuke: Is that right @Saitou_Hajime?
Saitou_Hajime: @Toudou_Heisuke @Okita_Souji Shut up you both.
Okita_Souji: I know I’m right.
Saitou_Hajime: What is the assignment you are doing now, Yukimura?
Toudou_Heisuke: He ignores you Souji.
Okita_Souji: Do you want to be the next Hajime-kun, Heisuke?
Toudou_Heisuke: Spare me your prank, please.
Yukimura_Chizuru: I’m doing my Classic Japanese Literature assignment.
Toudou_Heisuke: The haiku?
Ibuki_Ryunosuke: Yes the haiku.
Yamazaki_Susumu: From what I heard, Hijikata-sensei gave the same assignment to all the students for the summer holiday homework. To make a haiku.
Toudou_Heisuke: Really… Who else making a haiku these days?
Saitou_Hajime: Don’t underestimate a haiku Heisuke.
Toudou_Heisuke: Whoa, calm down Hajime!
Saitou_Hajime: Have you done with making it Yukimura?
Okita_Souji: He ignores you Heisuke.
Toudou_Heisuke: @Okita_Souji Shut up.
Yukimura_Chizuru: Honestly… I’m having a difficulty on making a haiku. I’ve tried on making it for several times. But… I’m still not satisfy with the result.
Ibuki_Ryunosuke: Don’t think too hard Yukimura. It’s good that you can think of one. With the grumbling of my stomach, the only word that I can think is about food…
Yamazaki_Susumu: Wipe your drool Ibuki.
Ibuki_Ryunosuke: What is your problem @Yamazaki_Susumu?! I can do what I whatever I want!
Yukimura_Chizuru: Please calm down, @Ibuki_Ryunosuke Ibuki-kun. @Yamazaki_Susumu Yamazaki-kun, please don’t aggravate the hungry Ibuki-kun. Let’s all be friends okay? ;)
Ibuki_Ryunosuke: Your comment is not helping Yukimura… +_+
Yukimura_Chizuru: About the haiku… Japanese literature is not my forte. That’s why I will try to do my best to make a good one to get a better result.
Saitou_Hajime: You really are a good and model student Yukimura.
Yukimura_Chizuru: Thank you Saitou-senpai! :D
Saitou_Hajime: …….nsdf8iu0234rujkdmsfsd90u80gf23j
Toudou_Heisuke: Okay, we all know what exactly HAPPENED with Hajime.
Yamazaki_Susumu: No comment.
Ibuki_Ryunosuke: No comment.
Okita_Souji: Heisuke is all yours Hajime-kun.
Saitou_Hajime: Prepare yourself tomorrow on the dojo, Heisuke.
Toudou_Heisuke: WUUAAA!! GOMENASAI HAJIME-SAMA! And you all are so MEAN! TT_TT
Yukimura_Chizuru: Calm down @Toudou_Heisuke Heisuke-kun!
Okita_Souji: Just ignore him, Chizuru-chan. One advice for you though for the haiku. Just do it.
Saitou_Hajime: I agree with Souji, Yukimura. Yeah, Hijikata-sensei is a teacher that won’t give a good result easily. But he also not a person that will give a bad score just because our work is not as good as it should be.
Ibuki_Ryunosuke: For some reason, I can hardly AGREE with Saitou’s words.
Okita_Souji: Don’t trust Hajime-kun’s words. Hijikata-san will GIVE you a bad score if your work is bad.
Saitou_Hajime: You are not helping Yukimura, Souji. And there’s nothing wrong with what I’ve said. Hijikata-sensei is really a sensible teacher.
Okita_Souji: Whatever you said Hajime-kun. But Chizuru-chan, even if Hijikata-san like that, I’m certain that he will not give you a bad score. Trust me.
Toudou_Heisuke: Yeah, Chizuru. Don’t think too much! ^o^
Ibuki_Ryunosuke: Ganbatte @Yukimura_Chizuru Yukimura!
Yamazaki_Susumu: You can do it Yukimura.
Saitou_Hajime: Just do your best.
Yukimura_Chizuru: Minna-san… Arigatou! I will try my best! Well, see u all on the school next week! Jaa ne~!
---
Chizuru closed the chat with a smile plastered on her face. She felt encourage from all the cheering of her friends. She looked into the paper in front of her with a new vigor. Her eyes then caught on the picture of Sakura tree on her Japanese Literature book. An image when she entered her new high school crossed her mind. One particular memory to be exact made her smiled.
She had decided then what haiku she would write.
---
Hijikata was trying hard not to throw the students summer holiday assignment that he had been reading for the past hour. So far, only a few of the haiku were decent enough to be called a haiku. Were these students really a Japanese? How could they call themselves Japanese if they couldn’t make one haiku?! Clearly they didn’t think hard enough when they made the haiku that was in his hands now... Or they just wanted to mess with him.
He let out an annoyed sigh. They better be prepared for the special lesson next time they study his subject. He smirked inwardly for the upcoming lesson.
Then he read her haiku. He stared and read her haiku for several times. In the end, he let out another sigh. A sigh that full of his feelings. Feelings that shouldn't be there in the first place. Good thing there’s no one in the faculty room. If not, the others would certainly ask him why he would sigh in the first place like that.
He read again her haiku. He knew the meaning behind her haiku. One particular memory crossed his mind. In the memory, Sakura petals were blowing while scattering around the school ground. One figure stood at the center of the Sakura petals. He pulled a drawer from his desk and picked up his haiku book. He opened and searched in his haiku book the date of that particular memory. He found what he wanted and read the haiku that he wrote on the same date.
One day.
If that one day come, he would surely not letting her go anymore. And he would wait patiently until that one day came.
---
Chizuru’s Haiku:
Meeting him, Under the Sakura tree, My heart fluttered
Hijikata’s Haiku:
Sakura’s petals, Scattered around her, So beautiful
---
Bonus:
Heisuke’s Haiku:
One day, In the silent night, Doing homewoork
Okita’s Haiku:
Inside my room, Gazing at the night sky, Bored with the haiku’s assignment
Saitou Haiku’s:
White moon, Under the moonlight, Feeling calm and serene
Yamazaki’s Haiku:
The wind blew, A ninja dashed, Leaving a trail behind
Ryunosuke’s Haiku:
Delicious food, Displayed at the shop, My stomach grumbled

Moon....and some sun....
Just a very SMALL ditty for HijiWeek! This is more a reflection...brotp thing, but I’m posting it anyway. :P
Hijikata sat on the edge of the engawa and looked up at the night sky. The moon, its bright light filling the courtyard, used to be something that lifted his spirits when his mind was troubled, but now... Now it was just another reminder of what used to be and what could never be again.
It had started with Sannan taking the ochimizu; that, and its immediate aftermath, had been bad. Hijikata was still trying to come to terms with the fact that he hadn’t seen it coming soon enough. Sure he had...considered the possibility that Sannan would attempt it, but never seriously. Hijikata had thought the man too smart to take such a risk with his own sanity, but he had been very mistaken.
And then there was Heisuke, and as horrible as the change had been with Sannan, it seemed so much worse with the youngest captain. Heisuke was a vibrant young man, full of life and vigor. Or at least, he had been. That was dampened now. He was still Heisuke, but less bright—less vital.
Now, with his own body changed forever, Hijikata better understood what the others had gone through—what they dealt with on a day to day basis. It was something he should have prevented, but as the Oni no Fukuchō, he hadn’t had that choice. And he couldn’t possibly allow his men to do something that he wouldn’t do. All that mattered was the Shinsengumi and its commander.
A noise to his left caught his attention, and he let his eyes sweep across the courtyard in search of its source. Gen-san was heading toward him with a tray, and Hijikata had to smile. Tea would be a welcome distraction from his thoughts, and he hadn’t had time to simply enjoy his friend’s company for some time. Company that he had very nearly lost, were it not for Yukimura and Yamazaki.
“Toshi-san, I thought I might find you out here.”
Gen took a seat and set the tray between them. He poured tea into each cup and then brought one to his lips, letting the silence of the night wrap around him. Hijikata picked up the second cup and blew on it before taking a small sip. A soft sigh escaped him, and let the soothing liquid work its magic.
Only months earlier, Hijikata thought they had lost Gen forever; attacked by traitors and left bleeding in the middle of a dusty road. But Yukimura had been quick to act, and Yamazaki arrived shortly after, the pair of them working in tandem to save the captain of the sixth division. Toshi smiled into his tea. Through all his dark thoughts came the small light at the end of a very long tunnel. Yes, his comrades —his friends— had been changed forever, but they were alive. They were with him still.
“The sun will be rising soon, Gen-san. A new day...perhaps this will be the day we’re sent to fulfill our purpose.”
“Aa, wouldn’t Isami-san be pleased with that news?” Gen said, a soft chuckle escaping him.
They sipped their drinks and let the quiet of the night slowly slip away to reveal the beauty of a new morning. Neither thought about loss of sleep. They were rejuvenated—not by rest, but by hope. As the sky began to glow with pinks and yellows, their minds were at ease. Today was a new day, and it was their day.

Hope and Despair
@hijichiweek ~ June 24th prompt, hope/despair ~ a hopefully amusing drabble with understated nsfw connotations. :P
"No more." Wild eyed, running a shaking hand through already disheveled hair, the elder of two college students spoke to his roommate. "Geeze, I thought living in the dorms was rough."
"Maybe it'll get better."
Disgust and anger in equal measure in his voice, the senior snapped back, "Every damn night like clockwork!"
"I spoke with our landlady and she said they're in the honeymoon phase."
"I don't begrudge anyone happiness, but how can I study with such noises?"
"You're not the only one who has trouble concentrating."
"Then we're agreed." Nodding firmly, the senior college student slammed his fist into his palm. "We're gonna break our lease and move."
"Can we do that?"
"Can we afford not to? I'm gonna flunk every damn class if I don't have quiet time at night to study."
"Our landlady also mentioned how much breaking the lease would cost. I'm already eating ramen for every meal to make my money stretch to the end of the month." His despair was almost comical to his roommate. "What can we do?"
Hope lit the senior's face as inspiration struck. "Earplugs!"
Buoyed by the other's enthusiasm, Souji clapped his hands. "And if that doesn't work Harada, I know a guy! Kazama can break up their marriage!"
"You're delirious from lack of sleep." Harada rolled his eyes and rubbed his forehead furiously. "Obviously, we need to speed Chizuru's conception. Once she's pregnant, Hijikata will stop with the nightly assaults."
"What if his kink is pregnant women?"
"We're both gonna flunk, aren't we?"
#hijichiweek 2018#hope and despair#I'd call this a fun drabble#amusing even - at least to me#a story focused on Hijikata and Chizuru without directly involving them#lemme know if you liked it ;)

Sending everyone good vibes!
-Mod HijiPapa
There was something feral in Chizuru’s eyes, a kind of look that a wolf gives when the moon is full and bright. Hijikata soaked the sight of her in, watching her sashay toward him like a dance. “Take me now,” she said, pulling the loose ties around her robe and letting it fall to the ground. @hidetheremote
The cold wind blew, and an ache tore through her bones, causing her to shiver and hug herself in a vain attempt for warmth. A pair of arms wrapped around her, and when he rested his chin on her shoulder and uttered her name, two kinds of warmth filled her body. “I love you,” he whispered into her ear, as if she didn’t already know that. @flowerynameslover
“Excuse me, and sorry to bother you, but I asked for caramel macchiato,” Chizuru sheepishly said, pushing her hot coffee back to the annoyed barista. “I’ll take your coffee… I’d hate for such efforts go to waste,” the man said, standing tall in his suit. “Eep!” Chizuru squeaked, her jaw dropped as she stared back, mesmerized by the deep purple eyes. @hidetheremote
“Hijikata-san, Hijikata-san,” Chizuru called desperately, as she felt the small hope she had held so desperately, start to flicker; she couldn’t lose him. His head lay in her lap, barely breathing, so much of his blood staining the petals scattered around them. Hijikata gave a weak cough before he opened opened his eyes a crack and said, “Like hell am I going to let that blonde bastard do me in…” a small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth, “not when I’ve got so much to live for.” @eliz1369
Hijikata felt an involuntary shiver wrack his body. His teeth chattered. He felt movement beside him and peered up to see Chizuru placing another quilt over him. “I heard it was supposed to be frigid tonight,” she murmured. “Mmph. I would warm up quicker if you joined me,” he said with a crooked grin. @sabinasanfanfic
“I refuse,” muttered Saito, coming to an abrupt halt and doing an immediate about-face. “Fine, fine, looks like Hijikata-san’s pretty distracted without your help,” snickered Okita, eyeing the couple standing together–very close together–in what should have been a very private part of the dark garden. If Hijikata was the King of Spades in a Western deck of cards, then Okita was clearly the Joker–and Jokers were always wild when a certain book of haiku was on the line.
Bonus:
Hijikata sits by a tree; Chizuru-chan is upon on his knee ~ 19th century “doggerel haiku”; author suspected, but unconfirmed
@impracticaldemon
Honoring Chizuru’s intact innocence, Hijikata was doing his best with self-restraint ever since they got together but that night under full moon was oddly calling for sin. “Had I not known you better, I’d really believe we are finally doing it tonight,” she chuckled, letting the more than subtle hint drop over her lover’s head. “Believe it or not, this time I was actually getting the same message from your body by myself, too,” he said, tilting his head to cover her neck in soft kisses and light nibbles. @soujthings
“You better have a good explanation for this.” Hijikata shouted angrily. “Don’t be so angry, Hijikata-san~ Your poems which were on that page, I can re-sight them if you want to write them down again.” Souji hummed. “Souji, this is your fault.” Hijikata hissed, turning on him. “Why the hell did you take my thing in the first place!?” @hidarikiki-no-kenshi
The Sun had led and shone its light to give strength to many people to live their days; just like what Hijikata did to Chizuru. The Moon had guided people in the darkest of the night and gave comfort to people that afraid of the dark; just like what Chizuru did to Hijikata. @shibuemiyuu
Blood, red ; blood, dead. A gray sky and an awful sight. Corps everywhere, guns on the ground. Tears on her cheeks and a man on her arms. Lips on lips, blood on blood ; a vampiric kiss showing their despair.
Inhaling, exhaling, again and again. The black-haired man is breathing. Her eyes are wide open ; she can’t believe what she’s hearing. A brown-haired woman on her knees. She is still crying ; the feeling is yet different. What is this? Hope.
His purple eyes are now half open ; her now yellow eyes are drown to him. A small smile appear on theirs faces ; no words are needed. She slowly touch his hard wan cheek with her small soft hand. Like magic, they kiss again, feeling each others hearts beating with the same crazy and endless rhythm. @emmalanna
Chizuru shivered in anticipation as she waited, blindfolded. Her startled yelp of “Toshi!” when the ice touched her skin quickly transitioned to a low moan, his tongue following the path of the ice. Who knew something so cold could be so hot? @shell-senji

HijiChi Prompt - Hope and Despair
This is a quick short thing, written in a way which I haven't tried in a long while so sorry if it gets a bit ooc, but I hope you enjoy it anyways!
@hijichiweek
~~~
The battle was heated, canon fire was continuously being shot into the battle field. The gun shoots rattled in my ears and all I knew was that I must fight. I will fight even if I die today in this battle field. I would have faught honourably as a Samurai after all, serving the Shinsengumi until my dying breath. However, there was no way I'd die yet, not while I am a fury. I have strength to fight more battles I'm sure of it. To hell if I'd die today. I don't care. I'm fighting for what I believe in and that's all that matters.
I cut down one soldier after another, wounded from gunshots which then instantly heal up again. I quickly gaze through the smoke from gun fire to see where the battle is headed next. I cut down a few more soldiers and pause. Something in the corner of my eye catches my attention. Heck, there was no way. Maybe I was hearing things. There was no way that girl, Yukimura, would be here. Although this can't be true, I could feel hope rising in my chest. When I left her, it left a hole in my heart. I felt like I was missing something. Of course, only recently noticed what I was missing. I was in despair. She wasn't by my side anymore. I don't believe that it's her. It can't be, but I'm now hearing voices. As I cut down enemy after enemy I can feel hope rising. No! She can't be here it's impossible. She should be back in Edo.
Finally, I hear a bang and turn my head. Loud and clear I can hear my name being called now. "Yukimura!" I shout, and start rushing to her. My heart hopes it was her. Her calling my name, but the explosion. My heart sinks in despair, she was okay right? She hasn't been harmed. I know she is a tough Edo woman and an Oni. She will be fine. I kneel down beside her, pick her up and carry her off to to a safe place where I hope she'll wake up and in my heart, I hope she says the words I want to her from her, even if my heart is torn about her being here on a battle field.
aka: all the stuff I have drawn so far...
A kind anon requested if I could make this list. Thank you for asking, here it is!
Note: I did these mostly to practice and improve my mediocre skills. You can expect redraws of official media next to the “more regular” ones.
They are supposed to be in chronological order by fandoms, so hopefully they get better towards the end of the lists.
The Joys of Sex
Day 2, Joy
For @hijichiweek
*Sorry for being out of order! Enjoy!*
Part two of this story.
“That is a sound strategy, Saito,” Hijikata whispered, nodding at the young captain. The rest of the men nodded, silently agreeing with the Vice Commander. Heisuke raised his hand, a confused look washed on his face.
“Why are we so quiet?” His voice chirped, not quite loudly, but enough to make the entire room groan in annoyance. Hijikata pinched the bridge of his nose, shaking his head fervently at him.
“Chizuru is sleeping. The baby is arriving soon, and her senses are heightened,” Shinpachi explained, whispering into Heisuke’s ear. “But her room is on the other end of headquarters,” Heisuke said with a normal volume. Eyes darted his way like sharp knives. He lowered his shoulders in embarrassment, wishing he was invisible right now.
The shoji door slammed open. The entire room shifted their gaze and immediately fell silent. Chizuru waddled inside, carrying a tray of tea cups and a steaming teapot. Her hair was disheveled, strands of long brown hair falling down in at random spots. Her belly was swollen, ready to pop any moment.
“Chizuru, love, what are you doing out of bed?” Hijikata’s voice was calm with a hint of caution. There was a collective sigh of relief inside the room, long exhales as Chizuru set the tray down.
“I couldn’t sleep,” she said, flicking her eyes at Heisuke. Heisuke cowered in his seat, inching his body to hide behind Shinpachi.
“You don’t have to do this, Chizuru-chan. We’ve had tea already.” Kondo let out a nervous chuckle. The tray rattled as Chizuru made a sharp inhale, and Hijikata reached over and grabbed her hand. She flashed him a look, and he recoiled his hands so quickly like he had been burned by fire.
“Oh? Who served you tea? Am I so useless now that you don’t want my tea?” Chizuru stood up slowly, clutching her midsection. “I see I don’t belong here.”
“You should be resting, Chizuru,” Harada chimed in. “You don’t want to exert yourself.”
“I agree. Your body needs to prepare for the birth.” Yamazaki stood next to her, an arm slumped over her shoulders. No one remembered seeing him stand up, never even seeing him approach Chizuru—he just simply appeared.
Chizuru let out a long sigh, rubbing her belly. “Okay! I’m sorry to have bothered you! Enjoy the tea!” Her voice was like her normal self, happy and light. Hijikata excused himself, and escorted his wife back to her room.
As soon as the two left, the room lit up in quiet murmurs.
“That was so scary. She’s so scary.”
“I could handle two furies, no problem. But a pregnant woman? No thank you.”
“Did you see the fear in the Vice Commander’s eyes?”
The chattering continued, with laughter in between.
Saito took a sip of Chizuru’s tea, and choked as he swallowed it down. “This tea is... awful.” He looked inside the teapot and sniffed it. He winced and put the teapot down. “Nobody drink the tea. It’s not tea.”
Heisuke raised his hand, and the room shifted his way.
“Are all pregnant women that sensitive?” he asked with intense curiosity.
“I am grateful I haven’t knocked up a woman yet,” Harada said, scrubbing a hand through his reddish-brown locks.
“That you know of,” Shinpachi added, elbowing his friend.
“Sex always has consequence, young man,” Kondo said, flashing him a smirk. “So don’t go sowing your oats all over the city if you don’t want to deal with that.” He pointed at the closed door, but everyone knew exactly what he was referring to.
Heisuke exhaled a long sigh. “Man, I wish there’s a way to enjoy sex without getting a woman pregnant.”
Clearing his throat, Sannan raised his hand in the air. “I can look into that.”
The room fell silent again, more quiet than before.
I wasn’t going to do anything more for this event but it didn’t really feel nice to end it all with despair pic. So here’s a quick hope thing, based on the movie ending.
#hijichiweek 2018#hakuouki#yukimura chizuru#hijikata toshizo#kazama chikage#now i realize it kinda looks like chizuru has heisuke's outfit..#it's just her western uniform without the red vest/overcoat part#to make her look more relaxed#after all they're not in duty anymore#i don't think she would find female yukata to wear right away#and she has probably been too busy to even look for one#busy taking care of hijikata#who btw looked quite okay at the end of movie#but he was pretty badly wounded#so i'm throwing him on the sickbed again#just in case#i have no idea how i should do comics#right to left? left to right?#well.. at least it's up to down#fan art
