Sokka is a reporter who goes undercover to expose a shady company no one can seem to get evidence on, and all witnesses disappear. After getting a job in the office, he decides the best way to gather intel is use his charming personality to get close to the owner's son, Zuko.

He realizes Zuko's struggling with his father's expectations and the bad things the company does. He's torn on what he was raised to believe and his growing morals, but he stays at the company because he cares about the people he works with and there's a part of him still wanting his father's approval.

Sokka ends up working directly with him, and the two get close, and he...accidentally falls for him. Surely that won't make dismantling this company complicated, right?

Day 15 of Hermit-a-Day May: Jevin!

The former Wise in Teachings has… well, to say ‘been through some things’ is too vast an understatement. To put it lightly and briefly, one thing led to another, he wound up in the King’s dungeon, and then a few forbidden spells later, he ended up a blob of gelatinous tissue being swept down a river and chased by about seven different witches from both sides of the law. Washed up somewhere near Mistgrove at water’s edge, where the fog meets the breakers meets a homely fishing village almost devoid of all magic, he has figured out how to hold himself in a vaguely human shape over the last few months. And that fish? It was one of the first things he managed to hold in his hands(?), so he’s grown rather attached.

closing out my early work day with some good news:

despite the severe weather last night across multiple states, there haven't been any reported severe injuries or deaths.

the sun is shining.

it actually happened last week but my brother's second child learned to walk.

I got two calls back-to-back for new interviews, so even if the one I had yesterday falls through, I have other opportunities lined up. surely something has to give.

my manuscript goes out to readers tonight (a smidge early) and I can sit back and let them poke at it for a bit.

I'm getting panera bread with my coworker after work.

I no longer want to punch anyone in the face.

okay so like. yrene conceptualizing bc i'm not gonna abandon her for 4 months again (probably). under a cut because this got long and it truly is just a bunch of text and nothing else. some/many/etc things may change??? idk it's concept phase

first for fun!! personality type things, which may change but as of right now feel good: sagittarius (i think she's my first ever sag?? that's fun) + enfp + 3w2 + the magician. also obligatory pinterest board drop. the fc choice started as a joke bc ariana has multiple space-themed projects but i like it now so here we are.

earther parents; yrene was born on luna. spent a lot of time being raised between the family homes in [insert city i probably have to name] on luna, and then maybe??? LA on earth. location doesn't matter that much. dealt with a lot of lowkey “so are you even really an earther lol” shit bc of how much time she spent on luna/traveling and how she had to readjust when returning to earth. 

went into acting fairly young and because of her birth/experience off-earth she was often given “belter girl” roles, because you know how sensitive and generally Aware earthers totally are <3 this definitely didn't cause some arguments with some of the outers she met on luna, idk why you'd think that. 

some role in her teens (i’ll figure it out later maybe lmao) called for her to perform a song and it triggered the transition into becoming a music star after she fell in love with creating/performing music. insert rapid success story here, as pop girlies seem to have all the damn time (probably had a whole ass bonus modifier on the rise due to her being popular on luna bc that’s the meeting place of inners and outers, she would’ve been exposed to a laughably large audience).

somewhere in her mid-20s she decided to stop taking trips back down the well, saying she was done with earth (fake news but that comes later, she meant it at the time) and following her adventurous heart that yearns for discovery and travel, bye nerds. officially kicked off the interstellar celeb career path with her traveling all over to the colonized planets for performing and exploration and blah blah.

pretty early on she got pulled into some light OPA activity, probably by a then lover or smth but she kept on going with the faction even after the breakup. she wasn’t ever involved in anything too crazy, but because of her frequently being on the move for performances/appearances she was good for moving resources on the low on occasion.

some years in she started to make some music with belter artists and, which i imagine probably caused a stir in the music/media scene. it was mostly positive but almost assuredly there was some anger about it, unfortunately most likely directed at the belters that she worked with. it's not that the music was bad in any way, but for the most devoted it's easy to take it as an insult that one of your belter stars willingly worked with an inner.

was on board the unn thomas prince for the slow zone incident. she was given the offer to join the initial trip to the ring gate alongside many other artists/actors/writers and instantly jumped on it. talked about it being something like destiny because she’s always been in love with exploration and learning about things in the stars and this was so obviously going to lead to the biggest discoveries the human race had seen for centuries, it'd be massive for her to be there for it. she wasn’t taken seriously by the government officials of the trip bc she was clearly there just to get attention on the mission but she didn't really care about the political side of things, though she grew close to pastor anna & tilly during it all. she stayed on board instead of leaving with the other civilians after the call to go through the ring gate was made, fully bought into her own hype and only encouraged by anna’s words. 

(i have to do a proper reread bc it's been so long but i know she's got a lot going on from anna's religious/spiritual talk influence that i think would be fun to explore, but i'm not gonna bullshit it now and be proven wrong later. so just gonna set that aside for now)

so yrene absolutely gets injured during the SZI, but i’m still deciding how badly/if it’s permanent/etc. she’s not getting away with just a hand-wave one, but i want her to be up and active during the aftermath so idk. will be decided later, it’s fine. 

i want to do a rewatch/reread before determining any further stuff for her, but i know overall that she winds up getting into activism real heavy and uses her platform/influence to further those efforts after the rock drops.

streaming is convenient in many ways, but the era of linear television and feature-packed home releases are something I'm willing to be very "nyeh, back in My day" about. I think it's genuinely sad that people will miss out on the experience of pacing out stories not Only through schedules/limited numbers of episodes available on a collection, but through bumpers, idents, and other interstitial programming that streaming services have no need for and lack, some of which can be an appealing, inspiring form of art in their own right. I think they're creative ways of letting you sit and digest what you've just watched by acting as borders between programming, rather than the relatively cold return to a basic menu, or the more obnoxious "we're putting the next episode on in TWO SECONDS if you don't cancel it!! here's other things like this! watch those!!!" that pop up before the current thing has even had a chance to finish properly.
